The Mets (17–15) beat the Dodgers (19–15) tonight in Los Angeles by the score of 12 to 1.
For a boxscore and recap, go to SNY.
…finally…
…John Maine looked his best…he lasted 8 1/3 innings, gave up one run, and hasn’t allowed over two runs in his last six starts…no mets pitcher has gone over seven innings this season until this point…
…offensively, Marlon Anderson, Raul Casanova, and John Maine combined for five rbi’s, and five runs scored tonight…what more do i really need to say…
…on the down side, after making a spectacular catch in the third inning, Angel Pagan left the game with tightness in his left shoulder…pagan will have an mri on thursday to determine the severity of the injury…
…on their west coast trip, they were 3-3, won a series against the hot d-backs, and beat the dodgers who had won 10 of their last 11…let’s hope they can treat the lowly reds the same way…

Now lets how a dominant home stand against the Reds and Nats. The players and FANS need it.
Two strokes for the price of 1 reading this box-score….
A Mets pitcher goes past the 6th AND they scored 12 runs.
One can only hope, Regis.
Though, I would not be surprised in the least if the our lineup puts up 1 run on 3 hits while stranding 12 men on base.
Our offense has been schizophrenic up till now (no more exemplified than striking out 8x in 3 and 2/3 innings against Kuo while banging out 12 runs against Penny today).
Consistency is what defines championship teams. Streaks and the ability to come back against opponents is likewise, necessary to win this division and realize the potential of our ball club.
Actually…the more appropriate term or diagnosis for the Mets Offense would be either “Bipolar Disorder” (one day the offense is up like scoring 12 runs off Penny, and the next day down like 8 strikeouts against Kuo in about 4 innings) or “Dissociative Identity Disorder” (previously known as “Multiple Personality Disorder”) in which the Mets offense or team in general would take on different personalities on different days like blowing a game like last night, dominating in today’s game, playing like they did with Perez pitching against the Pirates, or hanging in a tough game and pulling it out in extra innings.
Sorry…it’s what I am going to school for :-)
But you are correct, consistency does define championship teams and hopefully they can stay consistent against the Reds and Nats.
ha, i was just about to comment and say, i hope we’re not schizo, more like bipolar, but you’re on top of it, good job. I’m taking a behavior class right now, not my cup of tea, but interesting none the less.
I was thinking the same thing! Haha. if we were schizo, we would really be in trouble!
This team could use a Sports Psychologist in the dugout. The Red Sox have had one for a while now…and they got 2 rings too! Haha.
Nice win today, maybe all the fair wather fans on here will stop ripping Castillo. Its been pathetic.
Yeah, I know. It’s only a month into the season. We have a long ways to go. We need to let things ride out until the All-Star break . . . and then panic!
So true. The fair weather types probably think that we only won today because the Dodgers played with no emotion, fire, passion or killer instinct. As if teams only lose games because they lack those things. Ultimately, dwelling on the collapse isn’t going to make fans feel better or the team player better. Finally, baseball is supposed to be an escape from the stress of real life. While I hate when the Mets lose, I know it’s time to take a break from the Mets for a day or two if I find myself dwelling on a loss for more than a few hours.
you guys keep on talking about fair weather fans. But if they not only spend the time to read this site, but comment on the comments section they are most likely pretty passionate and die hard about this team.
My 2 cents

thank you .. it’s time somebody said it!
I actually forgot about the game today I was driving home from work today, got home and saw the box. After staying up late the last two nights for those crappy games, I was a little annoyed to have missed this one, but I’ll take it!
good game. too bad i fell asleep through the good innings. haha….im not saying it was a boring game, i was just extremly tired and passed out on the couch. great catch by pagan it was hard to tell whether he tucked his head under while flipping into the stands or he fell ackwardly on his upper body. I know his….shoulder?….hurt well he’s very valuable so lets hope for the best.
How did Pagan describe the shoulder? Any reason to believe (hope) that we will use this opportunity to DL him and clear up roster space? (Castro up/none down/carry 3 catchers; Wise up/none down/short one bench player — unlikely; BRING UP CARP for 2 weeks and see if you catch lightning in a bottle…)
I vote for C!
I’d rather switch roles between Marlon and Delgado than do something drastic like that…
He would only be up for a 2 week tryout if Pagan is really hurt or badly hurt.
Anyway, its a pipe dream…
funny how there’s a 16% swing in people who thought Willie was to blame for the loss yesterday vs. people who don’t give credit to Willie for winning today. I voted ‘no’ both days, you can’t blame individual wins OR losses on a manager unless they make a completely boneheaded move (like leaving a guy with rickety knees at first base in an extra-innings game when you’ve been replacing him for defense all season long…thanks again John McNamara).
Anyway, great win today, but it doesn’t excuse the fact that they should have won equally convincingly yesterday. Now, if they go home and sweep the Reds (or at least convincingly win 2 of 3) maybe we’ll have something here. I’m just too tired of the jeckyll and hyde performance of the last 12 months to allow myself to get too carried away by one (admittedly) great win. I will say this though, Maine really is one of the better pitchers in the National League right now, and clearly a #2. If he can ever cut down on the walks, he could be one of the best pitchers in the league.
That poll that Matt put up was bogus and misleading. The Mets are going to have games where they look horrible (like against the Pirates a few games ago) and like championship contenders (today), however, the problem with Willie lies in the fact that he doesn’t appear to get his team to play well over a consistent period of games. It goes back to last season where I believe the Mets had only one 5 game winning streak all season long. So please, instead of putting up a Willie approval poll or “I told you so” question after every success, consistently put up a job performace poll every 3 or so weeks so we can have a much better overview of the manager’s performance other than just one game.
oh, I agree with you for the most part, but it still makes the people who said he was to blame for the loss yesterday but then don’t give him credit for today’s win pretty hypocritical.
Well, I think he was in part responsible for today’s win…Everyone here did give willie a lot of flack for going with the b-team. Whether or not he foresaw the results today, he still deserves credit for getting some of the other guys out there.
great win… we need to take 5 of the next 7, especially since we have santana going twice for us. considering weve faced chicago, atlanta twice, philly twice, arizona, and LA in 18 of our first 32 games, i can live with 17-15. i want to see a nice run at first before we head to the bronx
can we try out maine at 1b when he’s not pitching?
JOHN MAINE HAS “IT”
would it be presumptuous to name Ryan Church, The Pontif?
More importantly: name him to the all-star team with as many votes as you can. So far (with a long way to go), he has earned it…
I have no problem with that my friend.
Good job by maine today. Like gary and ron mentioned on the broadcast and as alot of us have noticed as well. Maine seems to now be using a slurve type pitch now in his aresenal. As a couple of people pointed out, when maine first came up he had a curveball. Peterson had him scrap it though. I like the pitch though, its got some nice break to it. Plus its another weapon he can use to work off his great fastball.
Didn’t pelfrey throw a curveball when he first came up as well, and then peterson also had him scrape that pitch and start using a slider.
