I am not really sure what Wright meant by that comment. But I think he might have been saying that during the course of the game when they have a couple innings like that where they strand a couple of guys, that they aren’t (and shouldn’t be) thinking that they just blew the game.

yo you guys are nuts,there attitudes reflect the managers,i agree to a point ,but when has any one fo your bosses ever changed the way you thought about something,if you have conformed then you ahve no backbone. Sure willie should.could be getting these guys pumped up ,but did willie have anytihng to do with church not realizing that hit wasnt a homer,nah prob not.

Go back and read Matt’s interview last week with Darryl, where Darryl laughed off the booing, said the controversy was silly as it has always been that way at Shea and how Mets fans’ passion (both positive and negative) was something he missed when he went to the Dodgers.

I’m sure Willie is a great guy and a good manager, but it’s become more and more apparent that he lost this team last september and hasn’t gotten it back since. I’ve been as big a supporter of the “keep willie” cause as anyone, but hasn’t it become clear that he can’t motivate these guys at all? he should have been fired after last year, and everyone who was saying that was dead-on. he can’t motivate the pitchers, he can’t motivate the hitters; his moves haven’t mattered much since every time he’s shuffling his lineup or bullpen it seems like another round of russian roulette, and he has now pretty much lost the fanbase… UGLY…

Every team plays a different lineup on a day game after a night game. Players need days off and can’t play games 12 hours after the last one ended, its ridiculous to expect that and bash willie for sitting his aging players. They need time to rest! How would you do if you left work at 5 pm and had to be back to the office 9 hours later to get ready for another day of work?

Wouldn’t you be scared too seeing all these Mets fans jumping out of buildings after EVERY single loss? You can’t walk down the streets of NY without looking up to make sure no one falls on you! Man this board is making me sick, I used to love coming on her but all the negativity is ridiculous.

That’s a very fair point, and speaks largely to Omar’s failures in building the team. Building a team is not only acquiring talent, but it’s also acquiring personalities that will mesh together. That means not a team of all “A” type personalities and not a team of all followers, either. This team has too many passive personalities, and no one seems willing to take charge.

Omar has done a decent job of acquiring talent, but in my view, a poor job of meshing personalirties. Other than Wagner, who in the clubhouse will say what’s needed to be said? It seems that whenever a player like that emerges, he’s traded or not resigned (see: LoDuca, Paul). It’s hard to blame the players in this regard – they are who they are – any player who tries to rally the troops could come across as phony or trying too hard. Leadership is a natural talent.

So it falls on the manager to be the vocal leader. I don’t see how Willie’s that guy.
