New Orleans (AAA): 9-7 win over Fresno
RHP Ruddy Lugo struggled, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in just four innings. RHP Jose Santiago and Carlos Muniz each tossed scoreless frames.
3B Fernando Tatis launched his tenth homer of the season in a 2-for-4, 4 RBI night. OF Brady Clark raised his average to .316, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI.
Binghamton (AA): 9-7 win over Reading
RHP Bobby Parnell won his second straight start, working around six walks to allow just two runs on three hits in five innings.
OF Fernando Martinez continues his up and down season, this time trending upwards with a 2-for-5, 3 RBI night which included his first triple of the year. 3B Danny Murphy was 1-for-4 with a walk and his fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot. Mike Carp, again in LF, was 2-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBI. 1B Nick Evans was 0-for-3 but walked twice.
Savannah (A-): 10-9 win over Hickory
RHP Scott Moviel has begun to break out of his early season struggles, winning for the second time in as many starts. The tall right hander allowed two runs on four hits and three walks in five innings, striking out five.
After seeing his average drop to .200 on April 18th, C Francisco Pena has absolutely scorched the baseball, hitting safely in 17 of 18 games. After going 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three driven in, the 18-year old catcher has his average up to .297. Fellow Dominican, 2B Greg Veloz, was 2-for-5 with a run scored. 23-year old OF Casey Craig raised his average to .579 in his first five games for Savannah after going 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and two runs scored.

RHP Ruddy Lugo struggled, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in just four innings. RHP Jose Santiago and

Carp in left field…really? what should we read into that? is Evans winning the race to be the 1B man of the future
I assume they are jsut trying to get both of them used to being the 1B/OF instead of just one or the other.
We’ll have holes to fill at 1B and LF next year and it’s not like Fernando is tearing it up to the point that we can assume he’ll be ready without at least another year in the minors.
I have faith that FMart will be here and be a permanent part of the furnitire, but I’m slowly losing faith that it will be 2009 as originally floated.
Versatility is a good thing, just look at the Angels. Chone Figgins everyday 3B, then the 2B gets injured and he can move over to 2B for 2 weeks because thier best prospect from AAA is a 3B as well. Thats a huge bonus.
Edgardo Alfonso was a bonus moving back and forth from year to year, but in season, thats a whole different level.
Keep these guys moving around, learn as many positions as they can in the early minors so they can be doing it no problem in the higher levels.
Yeah, I wish Delgado knew how to pitch so we could DH for him next weekend in the bronx.
Also, isn’t Carp a butcher at 1B? Maybe they’re hoping a change of scenery will wake up his inner defender…

These are all true? That’s incredible!
Yay. Chuck Norris facts. What is this? 2001?
Uhhh… call me old, but that whole Chuck Norris thing was spawned by none other than Bill Brasky.
old.
They’ve been trying to make each of them rather versatile, Murphy has played 3B/1B/LF (But mainly 3B), Carp has played 1B/LF, Evans has played 3B/1B/LF (But mainly 1B/LF) (Yet they still won’t take Martinez out of CF). I guess their thoughts are that if they only end up being able to play the bench long-term the versatility will do them good.
Better to call up prospects after May to gain 1 more year before arbitration
Do you know what the rule is regarding arbitration and a player being designated “super two”? I tried to read the rule earlier in the year when wondering why Longoria didn’t make the Rays, but I couldn’t figure it out at all.
the service time of the player has to be in a certain upper percentile of players in his class. Which I gather to be players between the same whole years in service time.
I realize that isnt very clear, but the May 1st idea doesnt come into effect as much because it is relative to other players, and most young players dont play full years in the bigs starting out.
Thanks. I really hope that something like this wouldn’t effect the organizations decision on when to call up a prospect. A team with the financial resources of the mets should just do whatever it takes to field the best team whether it’s cutting sosa or promoting a kid in april.
I predict a pitching heavy draft this year again with how bad our depth looks in the farm system. Good luck Omar!
The pitching at St. Lucie has collectively fallen flat on its face. Hopefully someone emerges out of that group to be a prospect. Moviel and Vineyard have been unproductive so far, but I think the latin group at Savannah has something to offer, especially Angel Calero.
I think Vineyard is out for the year now so there goes his development.
yes, shoulder surgery. Might be a complete bust with that so early in his career.
Vineyard? Did you say vineyard? Good idea. Think I’ll have a glass of wine now…..
Whenever I hear the name Vineyard I think of curbstomping.
Moviel’s had a couple of good outings in a row. It’s way too early to be thinking about these guys, though.
I think that the draft (at least the first few rounds) is pretty thin when it comes to pitching. That being said, I am sure that Omar and the jacket will target some middle relievers with control issues to take with a few of their first round picks.
lol!
I loled.
Then I cried because it’s probably true.
How odd is it that all three starters got the wins with those scores? Baseball can be a funny game.
Fernando Tatis with 10 home runs??!! Let’s send Delgado down to Triple-A!
Don’t get your hopes up, Tatis is also batting .241.
Of course I was kidding, but that is still about 30 points higher than Delgado.
good to see PENA starting to hit….the mets org. catching situation is pretty bad
off topic but the braves just won their 6th in a row without their two best relievers and without smoltz
6 in a row vs 2 of the worst teams in the NL, doesn’t impress me at all.
And then of course they play Pitt this weekend. But the team I am most morried about is Philly. They almost always come back in a game. Last night down 3-1 you knew that they were coming back and winning that game. And they are doing this without Rollins and a slumping Howard, can you imagine what could happen if those two get going. Pretty scary.
These things even out though. Once Howard starts hitting Burrell will come back to earth. Rollins is the big factor.
I agree. The Phillies this year have shown that ability to come back late in games a la Mets ‘06. It will be scary when they get Rollins in there and Howard hitting.
Lets go D-Backs!!! Phils losing 4 – 1.
Oh Wifebeater, you are so delightfully sucky.
When did Niese start falling so flat? It seems for all of April he led the league in ERA and suddenly he is mediocre.
He’s still young and learning.
Obviously. But I wonder if something happened, teams are getting used to him, or just a few unlucky starts in a row (or conversely, a few super lucky starts to start).
I think it was just his last two starts that were poor. Hopefully it’s just a little “dead-arm” period and he will bounce back soon.
Has he been giving a lot of homers? There are a lot of small parks in the Eastern League.

He has given up only 2 HR.
Maybe we can trade Delgado, Castillo, and Perez to the D’Backs for Brandon Webb. Damn!
Admit it, you’re the Rangers GM, aren’t you?
Dude! Your onto something. Maybe they can throw in O.Hudson in as a salary dump!
Actually I was thinking, why not try and get Griffey Jr? He can play LF, RF and give Beltran a break as well. He would also give us a LH bat to replace Delgado’s production. He then would be a stop gap next season until FMart is ready in 2010. Just an idea?
vs LH
Reyes, Castillo, Wright, Beltran, Church, Alou, Easley, Castro,
vs RH
Reyes, Church, Wright, Beltran, Church, Griffey, Delgado, Schiender, Castillo.
.Alou nor Griffey would be platooned as much as using a rotation to keep everyone fresh.
