The Mets certainly can’t complain about Cassanova’s contributions. I hope he’s still around the next time Castro goes on the DL.

It stinks we don’t have an emergency catcher so WIllie can use Ramon in a PH situation. Games he doesn’t start he just sits there and plays games in the dugout.

Imagine how much more flexible it would be for Willie to have a Joe McEwing type as an emergency catcher so Ramon can pinch hit once in a while.

      • the clap says:

I don’t think McEwing ever caught an official pitch in the majors, so his versitility as an emergency catcher is one of folklore and myth.

    • Nate W. says:

watch the Braves claim him, and send their two kid catchers to the minors opening up a roster spot for another reliever.

  2. Tidewater says:

    Poor Raul!

  3. NYMetsGrrl94 says:

that was the easy decision. the hard one is going to be with Matt Wise.

p.s. any word on the game tonight?

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

It’s dark out but it’s not even really raining now. The game should start on time. Too late for me to go now :(

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Update: In the last few minutes it just cleared up A LOT more. I can see buildings outside of my window again… An hour ago you couldn’t see anything at all. It’s not gonna be a nice evening, but it will get done.

Mike Nichols you welcome Ramon back by calling him a hippo. Not very nice. But if the hippo comes back with that nice HR swing then I got no problems with the hippo being back

  5. AlreadyMissShea says:

We have not seen the last of Paul Casanova by any means.

    • dutti22 says:

Let’s not get overly exhuberant here about Casanova. He did a nice job over a short period of time.

But he’s not young. He’s a 12 year veteran who has posted a .236 career batting average and hit 35 career homeruns.

We may not have seen the last of him, because miraculously Mike DeFelice managed to get playing time at the major league level on the Mets the last couple years… so Casanova will in those situations, but let’s be honest, he’s no big loss.

  6. sambo says:

Castro should get a 4 year deal or longer

  7. metterman says:

Its good to have Castro back, I wonder who held the title of ugliest guy on the team while castro was away??

    • batsinthepelfrey says:

figgy and easley…you can exhale. but be ready unless ramon is unable to fulfill his duties.

    • Deadpanwalking says:

Castillo? He sort of looks like a toad … not that there’s anything wrong with that. I like his orange wrist bands, for what it’s worth.

  8. Shrek’s back! Yay! =D

  9. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Maybe he’ll relax the clubhouse a little bit because he supposedly is the comedian in there.

  10. flushingtoilet says:

does raul have any options? if not i can easily see him getting claimed by someone. he’s outperformed most start catchers this year. plus with a team like washington in need of someone at the backspot, raul may find another home.

  11. batsinthepelfrey says:

    Ramon,

We’ll be sure to keep your spot warm. We know you can’t stand to be away from us for more than a couple weeks.

    Yours Truly,
    The Disabled List

p.s. tell Moises we miss him

  12. BrooklynMetFan says:

    Hippo is a HILARIOUS nickname!!!

  13. gipper91375 says:

Alright, who else started humming the “Imperial March” from Star Wars upon reading about Castro’s return?

  14. 41 franchise says:

Hopefully, Ramon doesn’t pull a hammy running to the clubhouse buffet. I’d hate to see him do on the DL again.
    What ya think 270 lbs.?
