News: Rollins Back, Philly fans target Shea
By Matthew Cerrone - May 9, 2008 7:09 am

Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins is set to rejoin his team on Friday in San Francisco after missing a month with a sprained ankle, reports the Associated Press.

The Phillies have won six of their last 10 games, and are four games over .500.

…for what it’s worth, the Phillies group on Facebook is still planning to ‘take over Shea Stadium,’ on September 6

…from what i can gather, they’re planning a bus trip, tailgate and have a Group Ticket sales set up with Shea Stadium, though only 100 or so people have signed up

I hope it’s Santana vs. Kendrick for that game.

Why? That doesn’t sound like a matchup worth $35 a ticket.

ummmmm. so the Phillies fans attempt at taking over Shea makes them leave by the 4th inning.

I went to a mid-September Mets/Phils game last year (when Pedro pitched and Beltran misplayed Rollins’ ball) and there were tons of Phillies fans and it felt like a playoff game because of the atmosphere within Shea. There were fights, chants, arguing, etc. in the upper deck and it was great. I will definitely try to make it to that game.
I think the Mets play in Philly during the July 4th weekend - we should try and get a huge group to head out there for that series.

I already have 8 tix for one game that weekend. But, the entire series has long been sold out, so don’t expect to easily get a bunch of tickets.

For the game at Shea, well, let them tailgate their brains out. Assuming, of course, they can find parking! Then, send some of NYs finest over to write them all tickets, and confiscate their beer.

You know, make them feel as welcome as a Met fan!

lol that’s great.

Too bad about the Philly game. I was looking forward to going out there with a group of friends.

Let them come! By Sep 6 they will be 10 games out!

I agree. Let them come. Let’s give them the same classy treatment they give us in Philly. Heckle them and just be annoying for 3 hours. We can do it.

By the way, our Isles suck. I’ve watched some of these playoffs and it’s pretty evident that in a best of 21 series vs. the Penguins, Flyers, Stars, or Red Wings…we would get outscored about 107-21 and lose 20 of 21.

What insight have you gained from the first 35 games makes you think that the Phillies (or the Braves and Marlins for that matter) will be 10 games out? Besides, weren’t they around 7 games out around September 6th last year? How did that turn out?

Why do you think only 100 people have signed up? Because they think they’ll be 10 games out. That’s why we rarely see any real mass of Phillies fans at Shea. The first time they ever showed up with any force was the last week of the season last year. Even opening series this year was pretty tame. Nothing crazy in terms of Phillies fans.

When it gets to August and it’s looking like that week will be the week the Mets bury the Phillies in the division, they just won’t bother taking the drive north.

It’s a shame we couldn’t capitalize on their loss…But, in actuality, the Phils are playing like the 06 Mets. (Did I just say that?–This sux) They continue to come from behind, something the Mets haven’t done in two years.

C’mon Mets let’s pick up the slack! LET’S GO METS!

Um…that’s really not an argument in our favor considering who was traded for Fregosi…

Who cares? It’s only May. Why is this even a topic now? Personally, I prefer to just focus on this team. It has enough issues to keep me occupied.

HEY, RAV, I KNOW, I KNOW; BUT IT WAS TYPICAL OF THE GRANT DAYS. TRADING EVERYTHING OF VALUE TO SOLVE THE ENIGMA OF 3B. IF ONLY HE KNEW IT WAS GOING TO TAKE 40 YRS. THERE’S NO QUESTIONING RYAN’S DEVELOPMENT; BUT AT THE TIME IT FELT THAERE WOULD NEVER BE ENOUGH PICKLE BRINE AVAILABLE. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY IT WASN’T JUST RYAN FOR FRIG OSI WE HAD TO INCLUDE LEROY STANTON, AGEE’S HEIR APPARENT IN AAA. LET’S NOT FORGET THAT OTHER REMARKABLE 3B SOLUTION DEAL OF KEN SINGLETON FOR JOE FOY BLES.

Tailgate? Do they realize there is a stadium going up where all the tailgating used to happen? I guess not. Have fun tailgating on the GCP.
