At his blog for the Journal News, Kevin Devaney states tonight’s game is still on.

Devaney also notes, if the game is not postponed the Mets will likely call up LHP Adam Bostick to make the start on Wednesday.

Bostick is 2-1 with a 3.83 ERA with 26 K and 16 BB in nine games, eight starts, this season for Triple-A New Orleans.

ugh, what a crap night for baseball. feels like november.

ravi3 May 12, 2008 at 4:40 pm

I checked the forecast and radar…The rain has passed Queens. Though soggy, the game should be on.

giuseppe franco_procede May 12, 2008 at 4:29 pm

I have tickets for tonights game…at what point will the Mets make an announcement about tonight’s game?

mackey_sassers_arm May 12, 2008 at 4:30 pm

probably around 10pm. I have tix for tonight too. At least they have a coupon for subway sandwiches on the back, otherwise they wouldn’t get any use at all.

giuseppe franco_procede May 12, 2008 at 4:37 pm

That is so true…I forget these tickets have a coupon for sandwiches. HA! Damn Mets front office… LOL

dave27 May 12, 2008 at 4:49 pm

Tell you what, if anything noteworthy happens, put them on ebay post-game. I couldn’t sell 2 tickets to the Sunday Mets-Brewers game before the game, only to sell them off for above-face on ebay after the game because Wright hit his 100th homer!

giuseppe franco_procede May 12, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Thanks Dave…Thanks for that tid bit.

mackey_sassers_arm May 12, 2008 at 4:53 pm

Really?? I think I need to go back through my old stubs and make some cash.

I can’t imagine someone buying a stub for a game they didn’t go to, but I will definitely try now.

Thanks.

if Bostick is coming up, who is going down?

Necciai27 May 12, 2008 at 4:31 pm

If I had to guess, Joe Smith and they go short one reliever. The next day, no matter how well or how poorly Bostick does, he’s optioned to NO and Matt Wise is activated.

therealsince86 May 12, 2008 at 4:31 pm

I am guessing Smith will be sent down because he has options left? Unless they go with a short bench and move Pagan down. Is Pagan still injured? If so you could DL him and bring up Bostick in his place.

bvaz May 12, 2008 at 4:42 pm

unfortunately, he pinch hit this weekend so they can’t go retro to thursday.
I’m sure they will wait and see how castillo is today.
as long as no one is injured, I think smith goes down and then wise will be up after bostik pitches.

the Mets will be facing another similar situation later this month after the 5/20 double header in atlanta. I think Pedro is slated to come back a few days too late for that situation assuming nothign goes wrong so Bostik can see another start kater this month but with Smith already down, it will be interesting to see how this is handled. a lot can happen from now until then but when Pedro comes back, you assume Figgy goes to the pen, maybe making Sosa expendable.

truebluesince62 May 12, 2008 at 4:31 pm

They’ll demote whomever they were going to demote for Wise (Sosa, Smith or whomever) to promote Bostick for Wed and then demote him and activate Wise

mackey_sassers_arm May 12, 2008 at 4:41 pm

They are going to need a second starter in Atlanta for the DH next week too. It might be a 2 start trip for Bostck.

lewchr May 12, 2008 at 4:46 pm

I don’t know if they keep bostick up for the second start next week. And as far as Smith being sent down, I know he has options, but he is pitching in key situations of late. Get rid of sosa and let Heilman be your long man until he figures everything out.

truebluesince62 May 12, 2008 at 4:30 pm

It stopped raining in Queens around 1:00PM. They are definitely playing even though it’ll be in the 40s with a soaked field. They were looking for a rainout to slide Santana to Friday but it isn’t turning out that way.

Dirtysanchez May 12, 2008 at 4:41 pm

that sux. nasty conditions….

dave27 May 12, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Santana is pitching Friday regardless. They wanted to rainout to cover Wednesday and not have to make a roster move.

Might Bostick give a glimmer of hope that something worthwhile came out of the Owens-Lindstrom trade?

dsgtrane May 12, 2008 at 4:36 pm

Santana could still pitch Friday.

Today: Figgy
Tues: Maine
Wed: TBA (Bostick?)
Thurs: Pelfrey or Santana
Fri: Pelfrey or Santana

I’d go with Pelfrey agains the weaker lineup on Thursday and ptich Santna against the Crankees.

mrose May 12, 2008 at 4:39 pm

I thought earlier the post already said that Santana will go Friday against the Yanks, either way

Prismo May 12, 2008 at 4:37 pm

Hey, resident meteorologist here. Looks like this system is probably going to stay south of the city for the most part. Unfortunately a rain out seems unlikely at this point… I guess the exception would be if the field is just terrible and it’s still showering on and off.

I was hoping we could avoid using a minor leaguer to start a game. Ah well.

giuseppe franco_procede May 12, 2008 at 4:41 pm

Is this Sam Champion? LOL

mackey_sassers_arm May 12, 2008 at 4:44 pm

How is Piazza doing Sam?

giuseppe franco_procede May 12, 2008 at 4:45 pm

I knew someone was going to reference that! HA! LOL.

toomanyuniforms May 12, 2008 at 5:14 pm

Not that rumor. . . .

If Castillo plays tonight, his quad may become fossilized. Alou also should be nowhere near the park.

giuseppe franco_procede May 12, 2008 at 5:18 pm

Yes the old urban legend!

ravi3 May 12, 2008 at 4:41 pm

well at least they are playing a minor league team….Snap!

dsgtrane May 12, 2008 at 5:14 pm

That “minor league team” helped knock them out of the playoffs last year.

toomanyuniforms May 12, 2008 at 5:27 pm

True. Also, please, no “snaps!” These kids and their music.

SoDakMets May 12, 2008 at 5:16 pm

If the field is in bad shape, I hope that Willie sits Alou for sure and, depending on how bad it is, perhaps Beltran. The last thing that needs to happen to the Mets is for one of our guys to slip in the outfield and pop a hammy or twist a knee.

guierllNO MOta May 12, 2008 at 5:18 pm

Did we get Bostick along with Vargas in the deal for Lindstrom/Owens?

If he is even average the Mets won that deal as Lindstrom will be good, but hes a righty and Owens was a bust (shocker there)

dsgtrane May 12, 2008 at 5:28 pm

Same deal.

Owens wasn’t a bust; he got injured.

Necciai27 May 12, 2008 at 11:09 pm

Although Owens is not a bust in the conventional sense, he was on the Minor League DL half a dozen times before we traded him and then went on the DL four times for Florida. All with shoulder and elbow related problems. His mechanics are worse than those of Ambiorix Burgos when Burgos pitched for Kansas City. His delivery is so bad that it physically causes him injury. Any guy like that might as well be labelled a bust. If not for the emergence of Lindstrom, I would call the trade a wash.
