Were you lamenting the same Shea faithful who chanted "Sisk Sucks!" in the 80s?

Metsftw,

I've been here for years. I was an early financial contrbutor to Matt for the endeavor. Just a few weeks ago, Matt wrote to me saying an email I sent him was the best written he had received in years. I am also the source of the two "mets prayers" (takeoffs on the Our Father and Hail Mary, that I first originated here on Metsbblog in the 2006 playoffs to much positive feedback.

Your user name, by the way, strikes me as new.

No doubt, the site has attracted some badwagoners and twelve year olds as it has gotten more exposure.

But, wouldn't you at least consider the possibility that the change in tone reflects the change in the state of the organization from an exciting rebuilding era through positive signs in 05, an amazing year in 06 which ended disappointingly but then devolved so suddenly into the debacle that was the 07 Mets and the continuing mediocrity of the 08 Mets.

People can be much more civil when there are low expectations (think of fan conversations in bars and at BBQs during the lean years like the late 70s/early 80s) than they are when they feel that the best chance the franchise has had in decades may be slipping away. Don't you think?

Oh, and thanks for the ad hominem attacks after I had left the blog for the night. Real mature.

That was an excellent post, zen. I too have noticed Gary's subtle (or perhaps none-too-subtle) hints that he's soured on Randolph.

1.) I agree there is a spectrum, and I am hardly going to encompass all types of fans in a few paragraphs on a blog comment.

2.) Some of you on the more positive side are simply proving my point.

3.) gomets6091, I used to be more like you. A "Ya gotta believe" type fan even if I cursed the TV now and then. Last year soured the inherent optimism.

That said, you all make good points, even if I don;t agree with many of them. Good discussion. Sorry I went to bed last night after my original comment posted.

I was there last night in the upper deck, and stayed the whole game. It was freezing cold up there and I have to admit I booed last night.

If I pay $120 for a 7pack to nearly freeze to death out there, and see Delgado dog a few balls in the infield, and an overall horrible performance from Fig and Sosa, I have the right to show my displeasure with the complete lack of effort.

I play first base on an baseball team with a few friends, and I could have easily gotten to two of the balls Delgado let go. I expect him to have a decent year offensively, but the defensive decline is quite alarming.

it was two separate statements.

1. that it's clearly too early to make a huge deal.

2. even though it's too early the anger from mets fans has made the next few weeks essential for willie and probably for a guy or two on the roster
