In the three game series against the Reds, Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado were a combined 10 for 21 and each raised their overall batting averages by around 20 points.
Carlos Delgado extended his hitting streak to nine games and is batting .353 over this stretch.
Beltran, on their recent resurgence:
“We were expecting this to happen, and finally it happened…It’s good that we get hot at the right time.”
…it was a matter of time before beltran finally broke out, and he did it in a big way…i must admit that delgado’s struggles had me a bit more worried, but for now it is great to see him hitting the ball well again…i’m stating the obvious, but for this team to succeed, their big bats need to step up and stay up…it’s great that Ryan Church has been so consistent this year, and the team would be much worse off without him, but just saying that scares me…there is no way the team will succeed if he has to continue to carry them…good to see carlos y carlos back to form…

Now if only David could go back to being David…
and Jose to Jose….Though honestly, I’ll be fine if Wright and Reyes pick it up when the others start to cool down, since Reyes/Wright can carry the offense on their own
I love his game and I know he will come around, but I noticed free ride Wright has been getting vs. “Carlos y Carlos” getting booed out of the stadium for every out they make. Wright looks completely lost at the plate right now and is not seeing righthanded pitching at all. I think a day or two off for him would not hurt.
“I love his game and I know he will come around, but I noticed free ride Wright has been getting vs. “Carlos y Carlos” getting booed out of the stadium for every out they make.”
Well at least you’re not exaggerating or anything…
This is actually the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen on this blog since the day I found it.
Now *you* are exaggerating.
Besides, the point being made, that Wright could probably use a day or two off, is valid, and one that Randolph made himself.
Beltran and Delgado have been booed after every out?
I’ve been to all but three games, and Delgado has not really been booed since the curtain call day. I have not heard Beltran booed once this year. Remember, he’s not posting that a few people scattered around Shea are booing because they boo everything. He said “out of the stadium”. That is just not true.
Um, yes, we are all familiar with hyperbole. I am sure the force of everyone’s boos has never actually ejected somebody from a stadium. I don’t have a PhD in physics, but I get it — it’s just not possible.
(I know, that wasn’t your point. But hey, you weren’t focusing on the other guy’s point either.)
Can’t we just agree that:
A) fans have been giving Wright an easier time than the Carlos tandem, and
B) Wright might need a day off just to recoup and clear his brain? Oh, and
C) This is fun! :)
“Can’t we just agree that:
A) fans have been giving Wright an easier time than the Carlos tandem”
No. I don’t agree with that.
What we have here is… Failure to communicate.
You’re addressing the hyperbole which is not the point here. I’m addressing something that is actually just not true. Delgado has been booed, although that has all but stopped. Beltran? Haven’t heard him getting any rough treatment at all. Maybe it comes across differently on TV, but at Shea, Beltran has been received warmly. As warm as he could be received while he struggled anyway.
Now, if you are going to say that Beltran isn’t greeted as warmly as Wright, my answer to that would have to be “who is?” Wright is the face of this team.
But I take issue with the idea that Beltran has been a victim of the boo-birds. I’m there. It’s false.
Second point:
“Wright might need a day off just to recoup and clear his brain?”
I don’t think so. Whether he sits for a day or not, he’s still going to be David Wright. Like everyone, he has his rough spots, and he works his way out of them. He knows when he struggles, and sitting him isn’t going to bring him out of it any faster than letting him play through it.
All excellent points.
if David Wright stayed hot all year long like some fans seemingly expect him to, he’d hit .400 and have 50 HRs and 150 RBI’s. Even really good players have down times.
Last I checked Wright was 3rd in the league in RBI’s. Are we really going to start complaining about Wright now/
I don’t profess to know where Delgado will end up this season. But even when he was struggling in April, I was encouraged because his line drive, strikeout and walk rates were all in line with his prime numbers, meaning that he was hitting into some hard outs and seeing the ball pretty well. The only considerable dip was his HR%. But it seemed like Delgado had made whatever the necessary adjustments to his swing to stem his slower bat. He also doesn’t chase as many bad pitches and his eye is much, much better because he is not committing too early.
We don’t expect Delgado to hit 30-35 HRs this year. I still hope he can provide .270-.280 with 20-25 HRs.
This is the production, we as fans, have longed for since 2006. If they can produce on a consistent basis we will be satisfied. All I ask out of the Mets is to play with passion. It’s just a game, but c’mon show some heart!
Stress lefvel is WAY down on the site….it’s funny, when the post-game chatter has more to do with the batting out of order sequence and Matt’s typos, I feel good!
Once again, we are reminded on just how long the season really is and that it’s only been 6 weeks.
We have an OLD team that was coming off some injuries, and I guess Beltran’s knees still were not where they should be. Remember how he was saying he had to leasrn how to slide all over again in ST? I guess all the other things had to catch up as well.
For Delgado, its a chain reaction I think…when Beltran hits, and with Moises in the lineup, it does nothing but helps Delgado.
The key now is if they will keep this up…this is a pretty darn good lineup as it stands right now (barring injury of course!).
Right, and Castillo although aged much worse than Beltran, had the same surgery. It will take him a while but he will start to come around too. Looked like he had already started before aggrevating his quad.
great to see the carloses doing what they do best: hit…i didn’t have much of an opinion of the millidge trade one way or the other when it happened, but church has been so good its unbelievable and consecuently has taken alot of pressure off of beltran and wright duiring their recent slumps.
it was bound to happen, as more slumps are, too. Now: three wins from washington, please.
DW has been spotty, but his overall numbers are OK. 31 RBIs at least, and an OBP still sitting around .400 ain’t too shabby.
He just looks like he might be pressing a bit. A day off and the Carlos’ picking up some of the slack might take care of that.
