According to Mark Hale of the New York Post, Orlando Hernandez, who is still rehabbing from a strained tendon in his foot, threw without a boot for a second straight day in Port St. Lucie, and could throw off the mound within a week.
When asked about a possible return to the Mets, El Duque replied:
“I try to come back in two weeks, three weeks, when I feel good, I’ll be back.”
…el who-que…i wish him the best, but i’ll believe it when i see it…

lol
two weeks…three weeks…1 month…3 months….
who cares?
sarcasm….
In other news, El Duque will star in the new Broadway revival of “The Legend of Paul Bunion”
mean while brother Livan is 6-1 with a complete game, good call there.
This just in… El Duque injures his hand catching a ball back from the catcher…
Knowing El Duque, he’d injure his hand trying to put the glove on it…
But what do you expect from an 87 year old man?
This just in, El Duque and Luis Castillo share muscles. That is why neither of them can be on the field at the same time.
I think we have seen the last of Mr. Hernandez in a Mets uniform. As Regis mentioned, “I believe it when I see it.”
Maybe he should buy another boot and pitch with both boots on!
And all this time I was hoping Keith would come in for “Endy duty” as Delgado’s caddy.
I’m not going to dog El Duque for not performing. The man is injured. Yes, I can get frustrated at the situation because he always seems to get hurt, but you get hurt you get hurt.
That said, at this point I’d simply be happy if El Duque came back to be a spot-starter or long man out of the bullpen because he would be an improvement over Sosa.
Henry Rowengartner would be an improvement over Sosa.
Putting the ball on a Tee would be an improvement over Sosa!
you’re right, Sosa has had too many swings and misses lately…
good one!
The Mets have a roster of all-stars, a $132 million payroll, and they are 19-17, and have been completely embarassed by the Pirates and Nationals at home. We are trading losses on a weekly basis. No one has lost a job.
Joe Smith, our best reliever was just sent down, and Jorge Sosa who is aweful, is still on the team.
Do we really need posts about El Duque and his health? His contributions to this team are irrelevant. We have much bigger problems than El Duque and his stupid boot.
It starts with Willie Randolph…and Omar Minaya is not far behind.
Would he recognize “good” if he felt it?
Fellow Mets fans, lets just consider el duque done, I’m sure you have already.
-What breaks my heart is I’m starting to get a similar perspective on Pedro. He’s been so fragile lately, he’s now in that el duque, Alou state of fragility. Where you watch every pitch and swing with bated breath.
By the way if Keith and Gary are reading this, what up. Gary we love you too.
I think as far as planning for the rest of the year and playoffs go, Pedro and El Duque are not options. We can’t trust that they’ll be there healthy when we need them.
Shame on me for having hope that Pedro was healthy this year. I never expected El Duque to be though.
Pedro was a good move when we signed him. Great for burgeoning excitement around the Mets. But, let’s face it, Theo Epstein and company knew he was not going to be durable in coming years.
yea i bought into the pedro’ s “im healthier than ive ever been” crap. I knew he would be injured sometime this year but not this soon. I just hope he can come back whenever that is and contribute positivly toward this club. Miss his energy. As far as 100yr old duque….not expecting to see him anytime soon if at all
UFO…. loch ness monster… big foot…. El Duque
what do they have in common?
Their fastball has more movement then Jorge Sosa’s?
Not sure there are regular sightings of the first three.
El Duque = El Useless….
Been good to know you Duq - Thanks for coming up big for us in the ‘06 Playoffs.
Unfortunately the mets have alot of payroll dollars tied up with pedro and el duque contributing zero to the team….Factor in Sosa and Wise and Omar has done a poor job….
Factor in Church, Santana, Schneider, Endy, Pagan, Beltran, Wagner, Smith, Maine, Perez…… and Omar has done a great job.
Unfortunately, I think they have alot riding on Pedro coming back. They need him, otherwise the back end of the rotation is way to weak to win consistently.
I’m not counting him out yet, but Omar may find he is one good arm short this year.
This is beyond a joke.
I have a pretty good idea what the Mets SHOULD do with that boot Duque was wearing….
