Tonight in Binghamton, B’Mets OF Fernando Martinez left the game in the second inning after injuring his ankle while trying to steal second base.
In the comments section of this post, The Ghost of Shea Past writes:
“Just practicing for the big club DL stint- emulating the veterans.”
…sad, but true…well played, ghost…
…Update…10 pm…
According to Brian Moritz and his blog for the Press & Sun Bulletin, Martinez said he felt a ‘little pop’ in his hamstring, adding, “It may be a day or two before I can play again.”
Mortiz reports that the team will reevaluate Martinez tomorrow.

Well, there goes the idea of him getting a full season in the minors
sweet
Just practicing for the big club DL stint- emulating the veterans.
Yes! A true Met, through and through!
Let’s hope it’s nothing big.
Does this guy play in Alou’s body? He’s been pretty injury prone in his short career.
fantastic……
uugh.
that sucks, im going to the game tomorrow!!
Awww NUTS!
in other great news:
Tampa Bay left-hander Scott Kazmir agreed Wednesday to a $28.5 million, three-year extension through 2011, a deal with a club option that could raise the contract’s value to $39.5 million over four seasons.
Thanks other Matt, I have an open wound, pour some salt into it.
He’s young and gets these tiny injuries, no big problem. Look at Reyes, his first 2 years were riddled with injuries.
And he hasn’t been productive since August of last year! WOOHOO!
A pop in the hamstring is a tiny injury?
Let’s hope this guy isn’t Jay Payton all over again
except good?
I was at the game tonight, looked more like a hamstring than an ankle.
pop in the Hammy? He is Mets property, so this has to be at least 3 months.
Oh heck, just shut him down and try again next year!
There was always a part of me that hoped we’d keep Gomez and trade Martinez in the Santana deal. I was pretty split all offseason on them. I know Martinez gets the rave reviews from scouts, but I loved Gomez’s ability and intensity. Plus he’d have been a better fill in for Alou than Pagan and Chavez.
Just like the Mets to trade the wrong guy. The franchise continues to be haunting by making the exact wrong decision.
