Note: Lo Duca on Figueroa, WFAN
By Matthew Cerrone - May 14, 2008 2:15 pm

Paul LoDuca was a surprise caller to WFAN this afternoon, and answered questions about his health, cheering from the dugout, his inclusion in the Mitchell Report, and other topics.

Lo Duca, on his team in-dugout cheerleading, and Nelson Figueroa’s reaction, while speaking to WFAN:

“I’m not a big fan of it to be honest with you…You know, we’re struggling.  Guys are just trying to have a little fun.  I think they saw Figueroa getting a little upset, so they amped it up a couple of notches.  I do think it’s a little bush league.  At first it started off as a little fun, until he got mad. I don’t agree with it.  But, also, Nelson Figueroa has nine wins in the big leagues and he needs to keep his mouth shut.”

Not sure where I stand relative to the rest of the fan base, but I always liked LoDuca… and he usually takes a position I agree with. Yes, the cheering isn’t professional but also not that big of a deal and figgy shouldn’t have reacted the way he did.

That being said, I hope LoDuca gets warm response from the crowd when he finally plays at Shea.

I like his approach with the media… i didn’t like him as a player.

Still one of my favorites, even if I’ve been a fan since the early 80s. I felt he was a very true Met, if not the greatest of talents on the field.

I will stand and applaud for him, if I ever see him on the field (and I live the in DC area now!).

Lo Duca is a druggie and he should be considered such. Why treat him with kid gloves when we’re always bashing Giambi, Clemens and Bonds?

I’m not disagreeing with you, they;re all scumbags. But he played his heart out for the Mets. Giambi (at times), Clemens, and Bonds all were MASSIVELY appreciated by their fan base.

Wow Paul, I wasn’t aware that big-league wins dictate how much of a right you have to speak. In that case, I better keep my mouth shut too, since I have 0 big-league wins. Was that, like, a clause added to the 1st amendment or something?

I agree with Lo Duca, but wins have nothing to do with this. So shut up, Paul.

I was about to say the same thing, what difference does the amount of wins Nelson has have to do when it comes to bush league behavior?

On the other hand, LoDuca is steroid using/dealing cheat. If anybody needs to STFU, its him.

Great, now we get a post that will draw out all the Mets fans who want to kill the guy. All he ever did was play his heart out for the Mets, something 90% of the team didn’t do last season.

Preach on, brother.

He only played here two years, and at one point was big into steroids, but Paulie Walnuts will always be one of my favorite Mets of all time.

First of all, what is that supposed to mean? Lo Duca is not a pitcher. Secondly, he only brought up Figueroa’s career wins because Figs made a note in his postgame comments of the Nats being in last place. The guy was sticking up for his team, and he’s right, FIgueroa is a career journeyman and should concentrate more on throwing strikes then what the clowns in the Nats dugout are doing.

Looks like we have ourselves a Lo Duca apologist on board.

What do wins have to do with being allowed to speak your mind? The Nats were acting like “softball girls” and Figueroa appropriately enough called them out on it. He’s not boosting his ego, or making it out like he’s some kind of tough guy. He simply stated what they were acting like.

I agreed with Lo Duca up until he made the “wins” comment, which is ridiculous and irrelevant.

Figueroa originally brought up the “wins” factor by calling out the Nats for being in last place. My point is that Figueroa can call out the Nats all he wants, but he’s not going to be on the team anymore because he can’t throw strikes because he sucks.

how many of those nine wins came about because of steroids? lo duca’s a joke and the only reason he wasn’t a career backup was because of steroids.

Or Jack Fisher, or Galen Cisco, or Denny Ribant, or Tracy Stallard, or some other guy on the 1960’s Mets who actually wasn’t too bad but looked terrible due to W/L….

LoDuca was right, its kinda bush but at the same time Figuero way way way way overreacted and to blame cheering as the reason he sucked (instead of having garbage for a pitching repertorie) was ridiculous and I am glad he was DFA’d immediately there after

Figgy directly stated that the cheering was not the reason he couldn’t throw strikes and made no excuses like that in his post game so you are off base, buddy.

Paul LoDuca probably wouldn’t have a major league career if it were not for steroids, so maybe he should keep his mouth shut too.

maybe if figgy did roids like candy like loduca did, then maybe he would have more than nine career wins. some people take short cuts, while others take the high road. figgy didnt disrespect the game of baseball like loduca, so maybe loduca should shut up about anything baseball.

and whats the deal with loduca saying he got a prescription for roids from his doctor? so if he was able to get it illegally, then why did he have to go through mcnamee and radomski? if youre going to apologize, stop freaking lying about other things. either come clean entirely or just hide like mcguire. enough of this “i got it prescribed” bs. you DIDNT.

your hard-on for loduca continues matt. WHO CARES what this steroid using, wife abusing fool thinks about figgy? this guy was one of the most overrated mets EVER (in the same vein as milledge and john franco)!! Its obvious that this fool still wishes he was on the mets and he’s in desperate need of some attention, so why even give it to him on this blog? his commentary is irrelevant
