If Heilman can get back to form before the trade deadline, then that's fine. I say give him that much - and if he can't make the best of that opportunity, there will be plenty of teams shopping at the deadline that would love to take him in a mutually acceptable deal.

i can't believe there are comments about cutting heilman loose. Gimme a break. The guy over spring was unhittable and a big part of our limited success the past two years. Six weeks doesn't erase that. Makes me wonder about anyone's baseball IQ if they would put Figueroa above him in setup based on this season. I don't know about you but all sentimental thoughts about his great story went out the window for me the past 2-3 starts. Face the facts, we need him to be at least a reliable seventh inning guy for us to be a force this year into the playoffs. THEN he can go out and blow game 7 for us again. Get it straight people.

if you pick up a guy off waivers you pick up his contract too.

but if a guy clears waivers and doesn't accept assignment to the minors, THEN he is released, paid his full salary, and can be picked up for the league minimum.

Yea, the Phils and Braves seem to own his as$. What do you propose the Mets do with him then? You cant just send the guy to AAA or release him, those would be poor moves. I say try and trade him, start him for a spell or just deal with it and let him try and straighten out.

I have seen these numbers posted numerous times... They are quite misleading.. You should dig a little further, for example see what the Phillies batting avg and slugging % was off him last season...

My point is getting it done against teams like the Pirates or other low caliber teams doesnt show the true picture. The guy is done, he needs to go i am so sick of him.

......but yes, this year he has stunk up the joint. The numbers will move more towards the mean as the season unfolds i am sure. 20 innings so far, come on!

Not making excuses, numbers speak for themselves.

2005 3.17era 1.148whip
2006 3.62era 1.161whip
2007 3.03era 1.070whip

Good consistent numbers over a three year period. He's no Johnathan Broxton but still a pretty good pitcher that doesnt get injured and can be dominant at times in the pen. I am sure there are alot of teams out there that wouldtake him in a second.

I think this is great for Figgy. From the minute he started for the Mets I like the way he pitched and thought he was great. I dont like that he had an off night and they told him to leave. A lot of other pitchers on The Mets have done worse then Figgy has done. What this team needs to focus on is producing more runs, good plays, and never give up. We need to start palying like we did in 2006. Personally i didn`t like Sosa from the start, but theres a few other players i don`t like either. This is great for Figgy though, I believe that he will come back and be even better. This was a wake-up call for him and even though everyone makes mistakes, he needs to work on minor plays that have great results, and getting more strikes, which he can do. I can`t wait to see Figgy pitch again, and i wish him the best of luck.

This is what I was hoping for. Figgy in Sosa's spot out of the pen, potentially.
