Sorry Pelf, i don’t agree. Pitch lights out baseball, keep the ERA low and the innings pitched high and the wins will come. Tell the offense that if it happens again where you give up 1 run into the 7th and lose against a mediocre pitcher, you will kick each of them square in the ***

With a healty Pedro, even in decline, I love the rotation. Vargas was a smart signing, but he is another in a group of No. 5 starters that Omar likes to collect. That wasn’t an Omar knock, he has done well to collect these guys.

I feel too much was put in Pedro having a healthy year. This was kind of a freak injury, hopefully he can stay healthy the rest of the way. If so, they have a staff that can fuel a nice roll. If not, I think they are a solid starter short.

I’m not waving the white flag at this point. The fact is, it is very unlikely that the manager gets fired when they are a few games out of first. Willie bashers don’t flame me, right or wrong that is the truth. And with the starting pitching, they may win this year regardless.

This was a great sign. Pedro is coming back. Duquee too. Vargas has said he would pitch out of the bullpen. The bats will come around. All team components will be in phase. No need to panic and cry. Who was the genius that knee-jerk replaced Rick Down with Henderson last year anyway? Don’t need to change managerial horses in mid stream-foolish. The team will crescendo to the finish line. Stay the course.

Well, the silver lining from yesterday was Pelf’s performance. I watched every pitch and he had good stuff. He was around the plate without throwing right down the middle. Late, unpredictable movement that I’ve never seen from him. He got squeezed by the ump a few times, missing strike three, but kept his composure (obvious from his body language he thought a few of those were strikes–and then he gets called out looking on a pitch that almost hit him!).

I’m glad he’s getting the opportunity to go out there every 5th day, boom or bust. They need him to become a dependable starter in 09 and beyond.

No problem with him as the 5th starter. Now if Omar would have found a No. 4…..

Don’t think meat, that’s the catchers job (to paraprhase crash davis).

This does seem to imply Pelfrey’s issues have largely been mental or confidence related. Once he grasps the concept that he is good, and learns to trust the catcher, he could do very well.
