By Matthew Cerrone - May 16, 2008 7:16 pm

Tonight’s game between the Yankees and Mets has been postponed.

As of now, there is no word on when the game will be replayed.

hmm, do i smell a home-and-away, split-admission, bus-across-town double header like in 2000…hmm, any one, any one

Instead, SNY will air the first ever regular-season Subway Series game, with Dave Milicki facing Andy Pettitte.

Or, in the meantime, check out Ted Berg’s coverage of yesterday’s broadcast by Gary Cohen, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez from the Upper Deck at Shea Stadium, by clicking the play button below:

Of course the Yankees wont reschedule for this weekend!

AROD and Posada are out. They are going to delay when there stars are healthy. You can take that to the bank that THAT is the reason.

They dont want to lose to the Mets. There is potential that they could be swept!

You can take that to the bank that THAT is the reason why there is no double header Sat or Sun, or make up game this Monday!

  2. AlreadyMissShea says:

It’s for the best. The last thing we needed was someone going out and getting hurt after all of the other chaos today. It’s nasty here.

  3. gottabelieve07 says:

    Dave Mlicki time!

Well at least this way we’ll know the Mets will win a game.

  4. AlreadyMissShea says:

I guess I’ll watch The Zen of Bobby V.

  5. khmustache says:

todd hundley, carl everett and lance johnson…i totally forgot about this team

The day night doubleheader in June does not seem possible to me.

The game that Saturday is set to start at 3:55. That would make such a doubleheader very difficult.

They should just play two tomorrow or Sunday.

    • InsaneMetsFan says:

Obviously they would have to move the start time of the 1st game to 1:10, they can do that.

      • lewchr says:

That is a National game that Fox has the right too so I don’t think they can move it.

  7. Don Logan says:

Yea like I said before, the Skankees want to play 4 when they think they’ll have A-rod and better weather. And the Mets aren’t gonna want two doubleheaders in 4 days.

    • If they can’t play 2 doubleheaders in 4 days when they have TWO off-days (Friday and Monday), then they should just go home and retire to their big houses and go golfing.

I’m so sick of this crap. MLB is such a girl game now. It’s disgusting.

  8. mex84 says:

Yes, we didnt lose! Oh well, guess i’ll watch the 1986 Mets video again, YES!

  9. gipper82475 says:

Kind of sad that the most beloved part of this franchise at this moment is the TV broadcaster crew.

  10. InsaneMetsFan says:

    WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO they can’t lose!!!!!

  11. darkstar73 says:

    ? ?

  12. InsaneMetsFan says:

Think about the team on SNY right now. Lance Johnson, Benard Gilkey, John Olerud, Todd Hundey, Butch Huskey, Carl Everett, Carlos Baerga, Dave Milicki….the game is from 1997, not one of those players was with the team during the World Series in 2000 a mere 3 years later.

    Talk about turn over.

  13. sambo says:

Alright a Mets game I accually want to watch

some news about the makeup date from MLB.com

The New York Yankees announced that tonight’s game between the Yankees and New York Mets at Yankee Stadium has been postponed due to rain. No makeup date has been announced. Please note that the game will not be made up on any of the next three days (Saturday, Sunday or Monday).

hmmm. interesting.. the mets have an off day during a homestand before the June game vs the Yanks, but the yanks are playing in Pitt that night.

Looking at off days for both teams, Yanks are off May 29th, but mets play at shea that night. Could they do DH where Mets play at NYY during day?

Same thing on June 23rd, On July 10th and 24th ( 1210 game vs PHI ) however…. mets play afternoon games at shea and yanks are off.

The only off day the Mets and Yanks share for the rest of the season is September 11th. Now there is a day i would like to see the game made up. What a fitting tribute to the city it would be to have Mets Yanks on that day in New York… Odds are, if MLB wanted to make money and fans happy and more press, this would be the day it is made up.

Hope me research has helped, now im going to apply for a job with the Mets and Metsblog.com research dept.

    • adropofvenom says:

They’ll probably do another Day-Night Split Stadium DH, with the day game at Shea and the Night game at Yankee Stadium.

    • dykstraw says:

wow. i’d be really impressed with a 9/11 game.

      • gomets6091 says:

yea, a 9/11 game would be pretty awesome, with room for a lot of special tributes and whatnot. Might be the only way to make me care about Mets/Yankees again.

        • Yes, another way to exploit profit from the deaths of 3000 innocent victims and turn it into a marketing tool. Go MLB!

        • Joe Bacci says:

dude the MLB is not just another faceless corporation; it’s baseball, its part of the fiber of this nation… and it was a big part of how the survivors recovered from 9/11…get a life and stop being so disgustingly cynical.

  15. Runshouse says:

I don’t know how but I am positive that this is Willies fault.

    • gipper82475 says:

No doubt. All that hot air he’s been spewing has condensed in the upper atmosphere as rain clouds, resulting in this rainout.

      Fire Willie!!

  16. Ceetar says:

I don’t see any option except during the day June 29th for the night game at Shea at 8. they aren’t going to play on an off day (team wants to get away, day game doesn’t work) 28th is a fox game, wouldn’t really fit well.

    • OrangeNBlueSince82 says:

I work in the sports department of a newspaper and the game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader some time between June 27-29. The Mets did not want to schedule another doubleheaeder tomorrow with one against the Braves this week. Santana will facve Pettitte now rather than Rasner and Perez will face Wang on Sunday.

  17. KingWright says:

    Double headers suck.

  18. WILLIE WATCH THE WEATHER .

Alou (the worlds greatest hitter) wouldve had his day off.

    you f’d up.

  19. I am getting so sick and tired of baseball, and especially this team. The players today are babies. Watching Joe Girardi slide into second last night, spikes up, and Carlos Baerga missing the tag just confirmed it. You’ll never see that happen again in a live game. These players are too delicate. Let’s face it, they’re a bunch of pansies. They don’t play hard. God forbid anyone throw more than 100 pitches in a game anymore. Forget about mowing down the catcher blocking the plate. And doubleheaders? Oh no. Hell, they can’t even sacrifice an off day to get in a game against a team that is a cheap and easy win, which they desperately need. Instead, for convenience’s sake, they’ll wait till the team heats up a little and gets back their star third baseman, who just happens to be the best player in the major leagues of this generation.

It’s not just Willie’s bland personality, it’s not just Omar’s destroying our farm system to rebuild the Mets into the Expos he wished he’d had, it’s not just the Wilpons’ ubridled greed in building a stadium that will lock out a large portion of their fan base due to limited ticket availability and outrageous costs. It’s not just the players playing country club baseball, not running out fly balls, and showing no passion whatsoever.

The problem is all of the above. So what if they’re playing a DH vs. Atlanta already this week? Would it really kill them to do a day/night DH today? Would it really be that terrible to make up the game on Monday?

This team is the biggest bunch of crybaby pansies I’ve ever seen. No wonder baseball is losing America’s youth. No wonder the NFL, the NBA, and sheesh, even the NHL, are gaining in popularity. Those players want to win. The MLB players, especially the Mets, don’t even want to PLAY, let alone WIN.

To me, this is the last straw. This team has given up. It is unfathomable to me that a team that wants to win their division that’s been struggling for wins comes to a 3-game set against what might be the worst team in baseball at the moment, a team with its star player on the DL even, and wants to put off a makeup game a whole month plus into the future. This was a chance to pick up 3 cheap, easy wins… low-risk wins even, because if they lost, at least they didn’t lose to a division rival.

I’ve had it. This team is going nowhere. Let the millionaires play their little country club game. I couldn’t care less anymore.

    • Sorry but you are so way off base it’s not funny. A re-scheduled raounout like this is not at the sole discretion of the Mets. If anyone has more say in this it is the Yankees as they are the “home” team. At best, the Mets are asked for their opinion or have equal say with the Yankees and other parties (the players’ union and MLB).

Oh, and don’t you think the Yankees wold rather postpone the makeup game till they have A-Rod and Posada back?

You’re just barking up the wrong tree with this. And I know you’ll be watching every Mets game you can for the rest of the season.

      • FYI, SNY is reporting that the Mets requested not to make up the game this weekend because of the Braves DH on Tues. I guess SNY is talking out of their asses just like I am. Or, actually, it was reading about it on sny.tv that pissed me off and motivated me to write the above post.

Of course I know the Yankees have a say in the matter, and it’s beneficial to them to postpone until they get their star players off the DL, but it was the Mets, according to sny.tv, that requested the postponement until June 27, and apparently the Yankees and the league agreed to it.

        • I apologize and take that back then.

Still, I have no problem even if it was only the Mets who wanted the postponement. What is the big deal? Now that everyone is pushed back a day, they won’t have to bring up a starter from the minors to pitch one game of the Atlanta doubleheader, which they would have had to do if the rainout were played today, Sunday or Monday. And the Mets will probably have Pedro back by Mid-June so they’ll be deeper in starting pitching. I don’t see it as a negative at all.

        • They wouldn’t have had to call anyone up. They could have played 2 today. Santana pitches game 1 and Perez game 2. It’s just like postponing last night’s game 6 hours and today’s game 6 hours, then they’re all caught up.

I just think that, for a team that a) needs to get wins over bad teams like the Yankees, and b) is trying to show that the team is motivated and not indifferent, this sends completely the wrong message to the fans to request the game be made up a month from now when it would have been so easy to just play two today, especially with the day off on Monday and tomorrow’s game not starting until 8 pm!

        • Yes, they would have needed to call someone up. Because Maine is not needed for the weekend now, he can pitch one of the games of the doubleheader on Tuesday. They originally had Pelf and Vargas slated to pitch the doubleheader, with Friday night’s starter going Wednesday. Since the Friday night starter (Santana) was pushed to Saturday, he can’t pitch Wednesday unless he goes on short rest. So they would have needed someone for Wednesday’s game.

So they can avoid for now the need to call someone up. If they need to do it in June, Pedro should be back so their starting pitching will be deeper.

So it wouldn’t have been easy at all to adjust the roster for the extra starter. Who do you send down?

  20. ericinsane says:

They shouldnt make this game up at all unless they need it at the end of the year.

    • RPsJacket says:

Probably not going to happen, but that would be fine.

Two DHs in 4 days would have been crazy, and playing monday before a DH in ATL on tues was just as bad. There are no cheap, easy wins thats for sure. Play two in the Bronx and get ready for the DH on tuesday against a division rival.

    • Meanwhile the Mets have played fewer games than any other team in MLB. It’s a little annoying from a fan’s perspective when these guys can’t suck it up and get the game out of the way during the same series and instead get games postponed until months later. Like Billy Wagner said, these guys need to start earning their salaries.

  21. thecoup says:

jeez. it seems like santana never gets to pitch on his day as planned. am i just imagining that? it’s gotta disrupt his flow.

    • RPsJacket says:

Maybe, but pitching last night would have sucked. It was miserable. I kept thinking before it was called that he was getting 4 innings in tops before a rain delay. Maybe the extra rest outweighs the flow thing.

      • ericinsane says:

And our luck someone whould slip in the rain (Santana. Wright) and pull a hamstring…..

      • But a day/night DH today would have been no problem. They had the day off last night, they get another off-day on Monday, but let’s screw the fans because we want to baby these overpaid crybaby wusses. It’s not like the Mets haven’t had more than their fair share of free days off due to rain already. Cry me a river!
