Wow I love this lineup today. Lets go Mets!

  2. metsfan42793 says:

This is how the game will go. 3-0 Mets winning. Bottom of the 7th. Yankees have bases loaded with 2 outs. Willie takes Santana out and who does he put in….. Aaron Heilman! 3-2 pitch to Jeter……Grand slam. Mets lose 4-3. At 7:00 breaking news willie gets fired and Isiah Thomas becomes the new manager.

  3. PacmanJones says:

You love this lineup? You realize Delgado is in the 6 hole? What’s to love about that, he should be batting 8th, no higher.

    • metsfan42793 says:

also shouldnt alou be the dh. willie will end up taking him out for chavez because of fielding.

      • haplo says:

My guess is Alou asked to play LF (believe I read that this is his first game at The Stadium), and Willie isn’t really in a position to say “no” to anybody at this point.

Which stinks, because Endy should be out there for defense and batting ninth.

  4. WrightPower says:

You bloggers are the worst. What a joke, you guys sound JUST like Yankees fans, the transition is complete.

This is coming from someone with giant mets tattoo.

Stop being pessimists, your making the team hate us more than you hate the team, no wonder they play better away.

    • Ryan Synagogue says:

      Actually they play mediocre everywhere

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I don’t care if the team hates its fans. It’s very convenient to blame the paying customers. And they don’t play better away.

I go to just about every game and I’ve never booed anyone. I have no reason to care about what they think of me. Oh, and they don’t think of me. These guys have jobs to do. They should just do them. I don’t give a damn what they think of the fans. That whole thing is overrated. If you can work anymore, the Mets aren’t going to pay your rent. You do your job and let them do theirs.

      • WrightPower says:

The fans do not pay them. The Wilpon’s do. Stop acting like you pay their salary because you pay for tickets and overpriced food, thats your decision.

When the players collect their check it doesnt have your name on it.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I never said I pay their salary. I’ve said the Wilpons pay them more than anyone in the last month. But people who pay have a right to do anything they want to do as long as they aren’t breaking any laws. If they want to boo their own team, they can do that. I DON’T do that… so you’re problem is not with me. All I said was they have a job to do, and they should do it. The fans will come around when they see some results.

Again, I am not the kind of fan you are talking about.

    • hernandez1786 says:

i agree but thats not a good attitude your the one who sounds like th yankee fan

  5. Ryan Synagogue says:

wtf, why is alou not the dh? whatever, clock is ticking willie

  6. ryno says:

    A .237 DH! Sweet.

    • mrose says:

a .237 DH who batted .371 vs left handed pitching last year, check stats bro

      • ryno says:

        Sounds like a Willie fan.

Easley has hit .266 against lefties over his career. But why use almost 1500 ABs as a reference when we can use 89. Ahh, Willie lives.

But if you need a small number of ABs to make your point, then go with Easley’s .167 average against Pettitte with 1 RBI over the last 5 years. Yes, that spans 12 whole ABs. Not quite 89, but maybe that will work for you.

Chavez, by the way, is hitting .600 against Pettitte over the same span, but he’s a lefty and Willie isn’t allowed to hit a lefty against a lefty.

  7. K-Hern says:

Willie said yesterday in the FAN that Alou and Delgado do not like being the DH, so for the 1st game they would play the field… and that the lineup could change for the following games

    • dr jones says:

thats great to hear sounds like the players are calling the shots..

      • mrose says:

        ugh
two players who can very likely make or break the day, if you make them DH, who knows, maybe they can’t get up for a game, similar to wagner coming in without the game on the line

  8. ravi3 says:

    A) Alou isn’t comfortable playing DH. This is the case with many players used to playing the field, as it upsets their focus and pregame preparation. We all know how habitual baseball players can be (i.e. Turk Wendell brushing his teeth between innings). Willie confirmed this was the case last night during his spot with Mike and the Mad Dog.

    B) Johan’s Interleague numbers until now are meaningless. His success thus far was achieved against National League teams, whereas from now on, he’ll be pitching against AL teams during Interleague. That would suggest his ERA will jump roughly half a run from 2.27 to nearly 2.80…Still very respectable.

    • deloid says:

The current thought is that the National league is a tougher hitting league than the American league this year.

  9. 41 franchise says:

Willie should roll the dice and have Tatis DH. Shake things up a little.

  10. cohen1333 says:

sorry matt, but lets kick the yankees’ ASS today.

  11. UncleMuscles says:

Let the Whining Begin…. Unreal… the game has yet to begin…
But thats the typical Met Fan these days….

    • gipper82475 says:

Yup. All is well. That champagne’s gonna taste oh so sweet.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

“Let the Whining Begin…. Unreal… the game has yet to begin…
But thats the typical Met Fan these days….”

The only person I’ve seen whining around here the last few days has been you. If I hated this place like you do, I would go do something else. Life is too short if you’re not having fun.

  12. AlouIsNasty says:

wow those YES closeups of Andy Pettite make you realize how ugly that son of a gun is

  13. metsfan119 says:

Alou is playing left in a DH game. The gems just keep coming from Willie.

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

      read ravi3’s post above, idiot.

      • metsfan119 says:

First of all, you’re a clown, so bite me. Secondly, if Alou is uncomfortable, too bad, he’s not the manager.

        • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Isnt it the manager’s job to put their players in the best possible position to perform and to win?

  14. gipper82475 says:

Ick. YES on MLB.tv and blacked out on Extra Innings.

Of well….listen to FAN on MLB.audio

  15. Airfeet says:

doesnt make sense….I also heard that Willies pitching Perez over Maine tomorrow thats ridiculous

    • metsfan119 says:

I love it, a nice clean Yankee 2 game sweep would go a long way to axing Willie

      • Metdamage says:

I guess no one cares that the Yankees field a heavy lefty lineup. Of course the facts don’t matter, only met fans perception.

        • Koko says:

Or the fact that the Mets play the Braves next (a division rival) and have Maine pitching then. . .

Hmmmm. . . All the pessimists only think of reasons to be negative. There is a reason to pitch Maine against the Braves and a reason to pitch a lefty against the Yankees.

  16. metsfan119 says:

Hey look, a leadoff hitter who takes pitches. Wow, they DO exist

  17. skylog says:

wow. might want to lay off the high fastball. they are making “petite” look like the second coming of nolan ryan.

  18. mrose says:

i hate being on edge for mets games…I want to have fun!!!!

  19. metsfan119 says:

    YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • mrose says:

are you serious? leave the blog if you are seriously gonna root against the mets, or at least change your nickname

      • metsfan119 says:

Not rooting against the Mets, rooting FOR Willie being fired. It’s fun

        • mrose says:

no, its pathetic, it won’t happen from losing a few games…
          geez man

        • AlouIsNasty says:

How does Santana giving up the big fly indicate any blame on Willie? Moron.

        • metsfan119 says:

Losing a few games? Really? That’s all you think the Mets have done?

        • KFS says:

I wouldn’t mind losing a few battles if it means winning the war actually.

        • Lets_Go_Mets says:

Too bad it won’t be a 3 game sweep. A 2 game sweep won’t be enough.

        • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

That is pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. How old are you? 11? Heres a question, would you rather have the best get swept by both the Yankees and the Braves this week and have Willie fired, or would you rather they go 5-1 against them, and have Willie keep his job? If you really think that willie has that much of an affect on the team that you would rather have them lose than keep him, then you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

You also realize that you want willie to get fired to prevent the mets from losing, right? And now you are rooting for them to LOSE so that he goes away. Unbelievable.

        • metsfan119 says:

Exactly KFS. So the Mets win today and buy a few extra weeks of mediocre Willie baseball. Fan-freaking-tastic. All I care about is the long-term.

        • blains2000 says:

You care about the long term but are freaking out in May?

        • Lets_Go_Mets says:

It’s not just 2 months. The Mets are below .500 since June 1, 2007.

        • metsfan119 says:

I’ve seen all I’ve had to from last June to now to see that Willie has no positive effect on this ballclub.

        • KFS says:

Jose, what have you seen in the last 162 games that would lead you to believe that Willie will right the ship? I’m just curious here.

        • blains2000 says:

So long term would not have been getting Santana or Church or Schneider this year. And you would be freaking out that the record was 10-30.

        • metsfan119 says:

Clearly we’re talking long-term this season.

        • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

KFS, at this point, I’m not sure Willie is the perfect man for this job. Honestly, I don’t think firing him will do anything, but I’m not as against it as I was at the beginning of the season.

But either way there is NO excuse to root against your own team just so your own freekin manager will be firied. I’m sorry, thats just inexcuable.

        • nrmax88 says:

“So long term would not have been getting Santana or Church or Schneider this year. And you would be freaking out that the record was 10-30.”

Lol you make it sound like you just won the arguement. We definitely shouldnt have made that move for Santana, something I have been trying to explain for months now. We could have signed him next year, and we would have still sucked this year and still had some of our farm

    • Metdamage says:

      It’s the 1st inning.

      • SantanaCYYOung says:

show me the last time the mets came back to win from more than one run down?

      • gipper82475 says:

The comment was about the last calendar year of play. hence the 07-08 Mets phraseology. Have you missed how well last place teams play against the Mets over the last year?

        That said:

Yes, it’s only the first inning.

        Is it still only April?

Are we still 7 games up with 17 to play?

        Is the Champagne still sweet?

  22. gomets6091 says:

Johan gave up a big-homer to Jeter…I guess that officially makes him a Met now

is santana kidding me? how many homers can this guy give up?

the best remedy for a struggling pitcher: face the Mets

  25. gipper82475 says:

Who is our ace right now?

Don’t you have to answer Maine????

  26. mrose says:

ok boys, lets try TAKING pitches here… do you remember that???

  27. HOFMets57 says:

Prediction: Santana won’t even pitch 5…

    • skylog says:

not at this pace, you are right. i said it before, there has to be some peterson issue here. mets pitchers just throw too many pitches. they all, all of them, get behind, and they all seem to go to multiple full counts even when they do manage to get ahead.

the worst part about it is, they then give up damage left and right on the 3-2 counts and it also seems with more regularity with 2 outs as well. with all of this, then the pen gets slammed even harder with innings and gets literally slammed harder with hits and runs……and that has been the cycle. it just continues to build upon itself, getting worse and worse.

what we need is this guy going for the yankees, all he does is strike people out. or wait, is it just the mets?

  28. adam900 says:

You’re an idiot if you think Maine is the ace over Santana. He give’s up Homeruns but he is one the best pitchers in baseball.

    • gipper82475 says:

Talent level, no doubt. But performance level so far this year?

Maine has been a stopper. Letting up 2 ER or less a game. Isn’t that the definition of an ace?

Johan? Not yet. He is a slow starter, historically, I would be surprised if it doesn’t change. Still, a quarter way into the season….Maine is better, performance wise.

      • Volume11 says:

Maine is no where near our best pitcher. Santana should be 6-1 or 7-1. He has gotten no run support in at least 2 games (like the ATL game where he pitched 7 complete innings giving up 1 ER) and in the D-backs game he left after 6 innings with the lead.

Look closer at the stats. Webb looks phenomenal on paper but some of those wins were ones that turned into hard luck losses for Santana…

6-0 over the last games Santana has pitcvhed says something and he goes deep into the game more than any other pitcher on our staff.

  29. MainStMets says:

johan gives up alot of big flies, he is what he is

  32. gomets6091 says:

  33. SantanaCYYOung says:

what’s the possibility of a two run homer here? 0?

  34. metsfan119 says:

Great job Delgado, come on people, let’s cheer him so he’ll do better next time

  42. metsfan119 says:

YES FANTASTIC!! At least Alou is comfortable since he’s not DHing

  43. NYCESQ says:

Alou normally takes his naps during this time of the day, that is the only explanation.

  44. AlreadyMissShea says:

I cannot understand rooting against your own team.

It’s not going to make anything happen any faster. It just makes it harder for this team to get on track. You think Willie is gonna get fired because Sanatana gave up a HR to the same #*$*&@ guy who has done this to them from the beginning of interleague?

Come on guys. I understand the frustration. I feel it too. But when you’re not rooting for your team to win over everything else, it’s time to seriously think about doing something else with your leisure time. You can do what you think is right, but that’s my opinion.

The Mets winning takes priority over whoever the manager is. If that was Maz or Backman or Bobby V in the dugout today, it would still be 2-0 Yankees. It’s nothing to get happy about.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

“It’s not going to make anything happen any faster. It just makes it harder for this team to get on track.”

By the way, I’m talking about them losing, not you rooting against them. Losing is going to fix NOTHING.

    • metsfan119 says:

I do think it matters. The Wilpons are very PR conscious and I think now, especially with the new stadium and this team’s expectations, they’ll be more willing to make a change. Hey, I don’t want the Mets to lose, but I’ve come to the realization that this team will go nowhere with Willie. They’ll tread water, get around 83-4 wins, and miss the playoffs. That’s not good enough, best to make a change now rather than deal with the same crap for another month or two.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

If they are going to make a change, they are going to do it regardless of what happens in this game, this series, or even this week. They are going to look at it in a way that is much more rational than we do… and I said we because I’m including me. The truth is that whatever they decide to do, the decision has probably already been made. Their bottom line is a little bit different than ours.

        • metsfan119 says:

Right, their bottom line is money, and people are going to stop following this team if their mediocre play continues much longer. I mean, this team isn’t just playing mediocre, they’re not charismatic or energized or anything. They’re becoming very hard to root for. A lot of that has to be put on the manager.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I guarantee that no measurable number of people are going to stop following this team. There are so many reasons this is false.

          1. Final year at Shea.

          2. Johan Santana

          3. Most games there are tickets that can be had for five bucks. Not bad for NYC.

          4. Most people do not watch every game. They don’t feel the same pain you do. They enjoy the night out. They can see Reyes and Wright and Beltran, etc, and they don’t see the struggles the same way you do. They see it as a night out seeing a big league game, and if they only get to go to one or two, they will be there.

          5. For every 100 fans that says “I’m done with this team!”, maybe one person will actually give up and stop watching them.

          6. Most of us have seen this team play on the mediocre side for much or all of our lives. We’ve been here through it all, and we’re not going away. We are here to stay.

    • gomets6091 says:

couldn’t agree more. It’s actually pretty disgusting to me for a “Met’s fan (or metsfan)” rooting against his own team. That breaks pretty much every code of being a fan.

I don’t think Willie’s right for the job, and if they keep losing I hope they fire him, but I’d MUCH rather have them win with Willie as the manager. Not because I like Willie, but because I want the team to win every time they step between the lines. I don’t even like rooting against teams to lose in football or basketball in search of a high pick, although at least that is somewhat defensible as a football or basketball pick can instantly turn a franchise around.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

“I’d MUCH rather have them win with Willie as the manager. Not because I like Willie, but because I want the team to win every time they step between the lines.”

I’ve been saying it all year. I won’t say it again because people either already see things that way, or they’re not going to see things that way. I give up on that one. But I’m glad to see other people saying it too.

  45. ness589 says:

    Well this is depressing…

  46. metsfan42793 says:

how embarrasing thats all i can say

  47. skylog says:

    this is embarrassing.

  48. Darryl Strawberry says:

I have to wonder how many of the walks we have given up have resulted in coming around to score. Just looking at the team in the dugout etc. they looked beaten already. The Yankees go through these early season struggles every year. This is nothing new to them. This Mets team is done.

  49. SantanaCYYOung says:

and don’t look now but the phillies might just be making their run and once this team is behind they’re not coming back

  52. m00kie says:

5 k’s and a pickoff? and a walk and HR on the other side? I’m going outside f this.

  53. skylog says:

didn’t think it could be any worse. we can only hope this is the bottom for the season

    • haplo says:

It can very easily get a LOT worse. Fortunately most of us will have stopped caring by that point.

  54. InsaneMetsFan says:

That’s it, Santana has officially been Metified.

  55. haplo says:

The Mets should have just overpaid Glavine to stay if this is the pitching they were going to get.

    • metsfan119 says:

At least we’d get to boo him every pitching performance for his disgrace against the Marlins.

      • haplo says:

We’re just going to end up booing Santana every time out for not being the pitcher he was two years ago. It’s the same difference, only with lots more payroll and six more years.

        • metsfan119 says:

oh, trust me, no one on the Mets could possibly match the venom that Mets fans have for Glavine.

  56. skylog says:

they really do look lost out there so far. i was hoping to see some type of change, them coming together, which i suppose still may happen, but this just looks really scary.

  57. Ludacrispat says:

moves the mets should be making

    -releasing damion easley
-benching carlos delgado and trading/signing for any player who can have an obs of at lesat .750
-finding trade suitors for aaron heilman
-firing willie randolph and howard johnson
-moving sandy alomar sr. to bench coach and signing rickey henderson to coach 3b

    • NYCESQ says:

Signing Rickey Henderson? Are you kidding?

      • Ludacrispat says:

who knows the basepaths better than rickey? alomar is AWFUL as 3b coach. rickey can easily coach third

        • blains2000 says:

But no one will know what to do cuz Rickey will be talking to the fans all game.

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Yes, releasing Damion Easley will really get this team back on track. He’s our biggest problem.

And by the way, after we release Delgado, who is that available first baseman you want to sign to take his place.

Firing Howard Johnson? Yea, beacuse firing Rick Down worked so well, or have you not been a mets fan long enough to remember that?

  58. InsaneMetsFan says:

did u see what happened last year? tell me where u see the change

      • adam900 says:

I don’t care about last year, thats the past. I only look ahead and know that there is a ton of baseball left.

        • SantanaCYYOung says:

yes, but knowing what happened in the past can help you understand what might happen in the future. i would love for the mets to turn it around, but i have seen no signs that that would happen

        • KFS says:

that’s the only thing that’s changed, time…but nothing else.

        • cafuq says:

i think most of us fans would not look to last year but this team is playing the same way they did at the end of last year. My expectations for this team is now at about the same level for the early 90’s team. I will enjoy watching, and a win is just an added bonus.

        • gipper82475 says:

Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.

      • gomets6091 says:

I saw what happened last year: the Mets 26-14 with a 6.5 game lead over the 20-21 Phillies, who ended up getting hot at the right time and overtaking the Mets during the last weekend of the year.

Baseball is a long, funny season. This team could still win 95 games, or they could lose 90. It’s pretty ridiculous that people are getting so worked up over the Mets performance through a quarter of the season.

        • haplo says:

And if we had Utley, Rollins and Hamels, that analogy might mean something.

        • gomets6091 says:

right, because Utley, Rollins, and Hamels are the ONLY players in the history of professional baseball that could will a team to comeback from 6.5 games back in May. Clearly you know way more about baseball than I do…

        • blains2000 says:

So go root for the phillies then.

    • KFS says:

would you rather we be up 7 games and September?

    • skylog says:

it is not that they are losing, it is the manner in which they are losing/playing. there is truly very little to be positive about. more or less all that is there is that they are not out of it and there is time. not exactly what i was looking for in march. clearly, i am watching, and i will continue to do so, but these games have not been the best viewing experience.

all i want to see is some smart play and execution. if they lose, so be it, if they can’t do that, well, it will be one depressing season. through this quarter, that is exactly what it has been.

  60. SantanaCYYOung says:

    another walk

  61. dr jones says:

its funny I was about to make a comment about Alou being a good candidate for a possible player manager with his Focus and grit and then proceeds to get picked off falling asleep. when he know the games best pickoff artist is on the mound…

  62. NYCESQ says:

Does anyone else think that the Hillside Honda commercial is the most absurd commercial in history?

  63. InsaneMetsFan says:

    Felipe Alou

  64. skylog says:

remember when being down two runs meant nothing? i want that back.

  65. SantanaCYYOung says:

    cg sho for pettitte

  66. stickguy says:

oh well. Looks like game over early today, with the anemic offense.

20 million a year to give up gopher balls like Jorge SOsa? And it had to be to smirk face jeter?

Santana should drill him in the ear next AB. That should send a message tot he team!

  67. haplo says:

If you think this is bad, just wait until Joba comes in.

    • metsfan119 says:

Of course if Joba was a Met he’d throw 5 mph slower and be struggling with his newly forced upon sinker

      • Koko says:

That’s the Guru Jacket for you. And then the Guru J would tell Omar to trade Joba for Jorge Sosa - because he can fix him in 21 minutes exactly.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

that’s right, you have to essentially take two innings away from the game cause of the back of that yankees bullpen…btw how many consecutive innings has it been since the mets scored a run? i have the number at 14

  68. InsaneMetsFan says:

Yes is Brian Schneider starting today with a lefty on the mound???

    • Maineiac says:

Where is Ramon… is he on the bench while Tom Glavine pinch hits for him?

  69. stickguy says:

well, if they are swinging at a lot of balls, then that easily is a sign that they are pressing and trying too hard.

    • dr jones says:

or that they are playing with the same focus that they’ve been playing with for a couple of weeks now..

  70. gipper82475 says:

    This offense needs some Viagara.

  71. metsfan119 says:

If Phillie fans don’t appreciate the heart and intensity that their team plays with, they really should take some time out and watch the Mets.

    • Koko says:

So is that the players or the Manager? Because last time I checked every single Phillies fan wanted (still wants) Charlie Manuel fired because of his apathy, bad managing decisions, and lack of focus.

Hmmmm. . . players or managers?

      PLAYERS!!

    • blains2000 says:

Yeah, because their manager is a genius and yells a them constantly.

Wait, no he’s actually a stupid doofus that just kind of sits there.

      Never mind.

  72. skylog says:

    behind. behind. behind.

  73. NYCESQ says:

    YES!

  74. stickguy says:

Oh well. This is too painful to watch. Time to go and mow the lawn. I’ll check back in for the postgame write up, and all the gory details.

Wonder if this game is a comeplete debacle, and the wilpons and Omar see a dejected dugout full of guys that look like they have given up, if they would make a move before tomorrows game?

  75. NYCESQ says:

    Schneider and Church, my heros.

    • WrightsRight says:

Those guys have been GREAT. Have a boatload of problems with Omar but no problem at all with that trade.

  76. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Church is amazing. Great throw, and now, great catch.

    • gomets6091 says:

ugh…I hate YES. It’s Michael Kay broadcasting with Al Leiter and David Cone. What happened, Tom Seaver and Jerry Koosman weren’t available?

  77. Metdamage says:

Well, when Willie gets fired, it will happen because the Wilpons are notorious for listening to the fans and talk radio shows, the Mets will be managed by Jerry Manuel.

    JERRY MANUEL!!!

Not Wally Backman who is hated by the Wilpons, not Baobby V. who the Wilpons know for a fact is not a team player when it comes to making decisions for the team. Ozzie Guillen is not leaving Chicago because he is loved by his GM.

So Jerry Manuel, gentle Met fans, would manage the team.
You know what, I love that idea, I think its perfect. Of course this team will listen to Manuel, he’s Latin, there aren’t any other qualities I can think of that he has but he is Latin and thats a plus over Willie. Maybe they’ll have salsa dancing after BP.
That will get them going and reverse the fact that Delgado, Pedro, El Duque, and Alou are pretty much done. Reyes is playing with issues that no one will say what they are exactly and the fact that this team is OLD.

So when Willie gets fired and nothing changes then what? Fire Omar? Yeah that’s for the best. I feel REALLY strong about the future of this team with Minaya outta there. We’ll be goin places when that happens. *sigh*

Seriously, a note to the Wilpons: IF YOU FIRE WILLIE THEN FIRE TONY BERNAZARD TOO. Both of them are at fault for creating this atmosphere so axe Bernazard right along with Randolph. If you don’t then clearly, Minaya and Bernazard, along with the Latin players, run the Mets organization.

Bernazard undermined your manager and your team. He has to go. He is very much a part of this as Willie Randolph is and he should suffer the consequences for his rumor spreading politics. You can make the case that firing Bernazard would shake up that clubhouse MORE than firing Willie ever would.

    If one goes, both go.

    • metsfan119 says:

You know why the next manager will be better than Willie Randolph? Because he won’t be Willie Randolph

    • gipper82475 says:

While the rest of your comment is a bit indecipherable. I agree that Bernazard has to go along with “Brains” Randolph.

    • novanoto says:

      i support this original post

    • KFS says:

Call me an idiot but when the GM provides you with talent (and I stress TALENT for some of these guys) like Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Delgado, Alou, Pedro, Maine, Perez, Santana, Wagner, Sanchez, Heilman…it’s the manager’s dream. When you screw up with this bunch of talent, you can’t really blame anyone but yourself.

      • Metdamage says:

You are right. I’m not advocating that Willie not be fired. However, when a member of your teams front office goes into the locker room and tells players what the manager said about them in private meetings, when that same front office member leaks to the media that the owners are griping about Randolph, When that same man tells players like Reyes that Randolph doesn’t like him, then that man is part of the culture that is killing this team and needs to be removed along with or even before the manager.

If Minaya and Bernazard are going to appease the latin players then it doesn’t matter if Sparky Anderson managed this team.

  78. WrightsRight says:

Nice to see at least one of these teams met with their advanced scouts to see how to hit the opposing pitcher…

  79. gipper82475 says:

    Huge play!

Church and Schneider. The best parts of this hapless team. Those unaffected by The Collapse and untainted by years under “Brains” Randolph.

  80. metsfan119 says:

Somebody please give Church the message that he shouldn’t play so hard. It’s a long season, you don’t want to show the other team.

    • metsfan42793 says:

i hope that was supposed to be a joke. hopefully this gives the mets momentum for a rally

      • metsfan119 says:

I’m just going with the Willie mantra. Tamper your enthusiasm, it’s a long season, don’t make the other team uncomfortable, better to lose with class than to win with cockiness.

  81. SantanaCYYOung says:

if they get out of this inning with no runs will this fire them up a bit

  82. AlouIsNasty says:

Once again, the only players performing consistently the two players we stole from the Nats.

  83. skylog says:

    great play brian

  84. Maineiac says:

Ryan Church is the only reason to watch this team. Let’s go Ryan!

    Oh and Schneider too!

  85. metsfan42793 says:

if the mets win todays game ryan church is the mvp for today

  86. skylog says:

it is amazing, when the lastings trade went down, all i heard was how ryan was a downgrade over sean green and brian was an overall downgrade at catcher, yet they have been perhaps the two most important players on the team.

where would they be without them right now? that is a scary thought.

    • gomets6091 says:

last place, most likely. Milledge sucks, and they’ve been awesome, so you figure that makes the Nats better if the trade was never made…

  87. SantanaCYYOung says:

    2 run homer dwright

  88. metsfan119 says:

No outs and a man in scoring position. Can the Mets break the mold and actually get a clutch hit?

  89. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

There we go, boys. Nice hitting Belty.

  90. NYCESQ says:

“Church will be waved home with Damon’s weak arm.”

That made me laugh out loud.

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

…and then Damon proceeds to throw a ball that stopps rolling midway between third base and home…. in foul territory. LoL

  91. dr jones says:

My grandmother throws better than that. I forgot how pathetic this guys arm is

  92. oklametsfan says:

come on boys, this is the inning, lets get some real damage done here

  93. metsfan119 says:

If the Mets get a lead somebody’s got to tape Heilman to his locker. Perhaps a cloth full of ether to the mouth.

  94. skylog says:

this is where the change is needed. follow through with the big inning.

  95. gomets6091 says:

do the Yankees purposely go after outfielders who can’t hit the edge of the infield on a fly? Is that like an organizational strategy, like they tell their scouts “young pitchers with power arms, offensive players who like to take pitches, outfielders who would be better off punting the ball back to the infield”

  96. NYCESQ says:

Darling is so intelligent. I’d hate to lose him in the booth, but he would be a great manager.

    • gipper82475 says:

He might be TOO intellectual for being in the dugout. Hate to lose him in the booth. Says the guy stuck with options of either a blackout on Extra Innings or the YES feed on MLB.tv

Obviously, I choose the WFAN feed on MLB audio.

  97. SantanaCYYOung says:

can we pinch hit for delgado?

  98. gomets6091 says:

oh good, bases loaded for Delgado. This should be fun.

  99. oklametsfan says:

come on, even a sac fly does the trick, come on CD

    • gomets6091 says:

heck, even a double play does the trick….which means he’ll probably figure out a way to hit into a triple play.

I don’t think I’ve ever had less confidence in a Mets player with the bases loaded than I do with Delgado

  100. SantanaCYYOung says:

    here comes the K

  101. metsfan119 says:

Come on Delgado, swing at the pitch in the dirt

  102. NYCESQ says:

Haha, the boo birds are even at Yankee Stadium

  103. skylog says:

    hit the slam!!!!

  104. metsfan119 says:

Delgado for Giambi? I’d do it. Both have one year left

    • KFS says:

      I wouldn’t…if I were Cashman.

    • gomets6091 says:

too bad Isaiah got fired, I’m sure we could have convinced him to take Delgado off our hands. A fat, slow, old, formerly great big guy…Isaiah loved those.

  105. skylog says:

should have dropped the drag bunt down.

  106. metsfan119 says:

Nice. We’re seeing some championship baseball right here

  107. SantanaCYYOung says:

where have we seen this before?

  108. skylog says:

this team is just simply horrid with the bases loaded. isn’t it supposed to be an advantage?

another chance. can they put up 4 this inning?

    • gomets6091 says:

it really is incredible. I would love to see someone do a study of their stats with the bases loaded, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team anywhere near this awful with the bases juiced.

      • skylog says:

as i have been saying for weeks, in 2006 they literally could not miss, so i think the gods are getting back at them. regardless, it is actually awe producing how they have scored about 10 runs this season with the bases loaded in about 15 (or more) chances, seemingly all of them with no or one outs.

  109. metsforever says:

This team just plain can’t hit.

  110. Gina says:

Delgado makes the first out? color me shocked.

  111. Knuckles99 says:

Delgado was an important at bat. How many more times. Now the easley out is that much more detrimental. Enjoy this season. As long as Delgado is manning an offensive position, we are going to be frustrated.

  112. Koko says:

It should be 2-2. That pitch wasn’t even close to take. . . . Wow. When things are going bad, things are going bad.

  113. metsfan119 says:

This team blows, watch Schneider blow this one

  114. metsforever says:

Might as well hope for a walk

  115. metsfan119 says:

There we go, swing at ball 3

  116. metsfan119 says:

Just lean into one, it’s your only chance

  117. skylog says:

    how many times? unreal.

  118. metsforever says:

a joke. as said before, it’s the players who have phoned in the season, but, that being said, bye bye Willie. may not be fair, but manager firings rarely are.

  119. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

    uugh. close

  120. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

    YES!!!!!!!

  121. metsfan119 says:

    what a miracle

  122. SantanaCYYOung says:

only way we’d get a run there

  123. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

    C’mon Slappy

  124. metsforever says:

    offensive explosion

  125. metsfan42793 says:

what an eye. once again and national comes up big

  126. NYCESQ says:

    SCHNEIDER!

  127. Wright88 says:

Thank you Schneider, you just saved me form turning this game off.

  128. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

    BALK! C’mon Bob, call it.

  129. WrightsRight says:

    i’ll take it….

  130. gomets6091 says:

Church & Schneider….thank god for that Milledge trade

  131. ccmetfan says:

The only advantage of the AL DH, we got castillo up

  132. metsfan42793 says:

y dont we trade everyone besides wright churc wagner, and schneider to the nats for everyone on their team

    • Koko says:

We’d only get Lastings Milledge back in return.

And I notice you kept all the white players. hmmmm

      • metsfan42793 says:

im not a racist. i didnt even notice. honestly.

        • Koko says:

          Okay. Fair enough. . . .

We’d still only get Lastings Milledge back in return for everyone else.

They might be willing to throw in Luis Ayala if we give them some cash too.

      • gomets6091 says:

YES just showed clips of Leiter and Cone pitching as Mets….it really annoys me that they both broadcast for the Yankees now.

        • gomets6091 says:

ugh this is the 2nd time I’ve done this….I hit cancel reply, then like 20 minutes later tried to post something else and it was posted way back here. Anyone else ever have that problem?

  133. Wright88 says:

    c’mon ump are you blind?!

  134. metsfan42793 says:

    FAIR BALL WHOOH

  135. Wright88 says:

    YEA SLAPPY!

  136. WrightsRight says:

    Hah…again, i’ll take it.

  137. SantanaCYYOung says:

unbelievable! line drive by castillo’s standards

  138. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Gave me a frightening recolection of when Shane Victorino did that same exact thing to us in Philly last year. That was painful. This was better.

  139. gomets6091 says:

    wow…

  140. NYCESQ says:

HAHAHAHA, Castillo sends a screamer down the line.

I think I have lost my mind at the things I am laughing at.

  141. skylog says:

clearly, i am happy, but has it come to this? bases loaded walks is our offense?

    • gipper82475 says:

      And an IF hit.

But, I’ll take it. Need Jose to hit a gapper.

      LGM.

      Win despite Willie.

    • Gina says:

There’s nothing wrong with walks, especially when it’s the bottom of our line-up. It’s much better than bases loaded double plays.

      • skylog says:

i agree. i was not just talking about this situation though. i would love to see more walks up and down the lineup.

  142. metsforever says:

    crushed it

  143. Knuckles99 says:

    way to muscle it out.

  144. Metdamage says:

I haven’t seen that bench FIRED UP in long while.

  145. metsforever says:

this guy is clueless at the plate. why would any pitcher throw him a strike?

  146. howellmetsfan says:

    Louis Castillo RBI machine!!!

Here comes Automatic Reyes……its very sad.

    Craig Jerfferies friends?

  147. metsfan42793 says:

crap. but we have the lead atleast

  148. MainStMets says:

on a brighter note, pettite is up around 80 pitches now, so well be into the pen fairly early

  149. SantanaCYYOung says:

    where’ve u been jose

  150. Knuckles99 says:

    Delgado was a big out.

  151. Ludacrispat says:

does this game demonstrate the difference between derek jeter and jose reyes??? i hope not

  152. dr jones says:

wow Reyes is as lost as he’s ever been.. that sux

  153. Darryl Strawberry says:

I’ll take the runs, but that inning was not impressive. Someone hit a double in the gap, just once this season.

  154. Knuckles99 says:

Church or Wright when bases are loaded. Other than those two, I can’t feel confident about any of them. I loathe Delgado.

    • skylog says:

david has been pretty poor as of late with the bags juiced after an insane start to his career, but i see your point. it is just depressing that again, there was a chance for that one hit, that one play to throw a huge number up there and it eluded them once again.

not to mention that jose is just out of it. i love when he drives one in the gap, but someone has to tell him he needs to, i don’t know, hit the ball on the ground once and a while.

well, as i type, great play in the field by jose.

  155. oklametsfan says:

good inning there, let Santana work with a lead now. and let metsfan119 cry in his beer.

  156. Metdamage says:

Gold Glove Santana Baby. Nice to see that

  157. WrightsRight says:

my goodness reyes looks absolutely horrible at the plate. like some 9-year old kid playing stick ball. his stance, his legs flying all over the place defying all logic whatsoever, swinging at everything without rhyme or reason…dreadful. I want to have faith but with each day that passes, other NL shortstops fly on by him up the ladder…depressing state of affairs.

  158. InsaneMetsFan says:

Check swing single, broken bat single, single through the 5 hole, walk, out, out, walk, infield single, out.

Was that not the weakest 3 runs in the history of MLB???

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

stop bitching. Wasn’t pretty but we have the lead.

Amazing play Reyes. Take note of how you really go to your right, Jeter.

    • oklametsfan says:

yeah, but still, something is better than nothing. this place will be even more depressing than it already is if we start dissecting HOW we get the crooked numbers on the board

  159. Church says:

Willie almost argued the almost balk.

  160. SantanaCYYOung says:

    great great inning

  161. Metdamage says:

That was ACE stuff by Santana that inning. Get Pettitte back out after 7 pitches. Reyes sux at the plate but he still has his arm thank God.

  162. NYCESQ says:

Well, slap me and call me Bessy, the Mets look fired up.

  163. SantanaCYYOung says:

willie randolph ended the meeting yesterday by saying; “Hey, I’m Willie Randolph, I wouldn’t put my name on the line for something that doesn’t work!”

  164. oklametsfan says:

excellent inning Santana, 57 thru 4 is just fine. and now we’re back to the 2 spot again in the lineup. lets go Church

  165. Wright88 says:

Did they ever say what’s happening with the PPD game?

  166. adam900 says:

I don’t like this game with a 1 run lead against the Yankees. Reyes and Delgado need to come back to Earth sometime, they could have had a 5 run inning.

  167. NYCESQ says:

“What time are you coming in?”
    “Midnight.”
    “I’ll save you a barstool.”

    Best exchange ever.

  168. SantanaCYYOung says:

    come on alou

  169. KFS says:

Sorry for the rain on the parade but what’s the chance we see Heilman today?

  170. NYCESQ says:

Oh no, please don’t be hurt.

  171. almar1965 says:

Uh oh. Alou’s hit on the hand.

    21 day DL!

    (sarcasm)

  172. SantanaCYYOung says:

    another k for delgado

  173. casey s. says:

carlos delgado has become every pitchers easy button.

  174. adam900 says:

Delgado go jump off a cliff please

  175. WrightsRight says:

are keith & co. doing the game from under water…the sound is weird.

  176. Wright88 says:

daamn….this is my first post ever saying this but Delgado can’t be here anymore.

  177. Knuckles99 says:

    I loathe Delgado.

    • NYMBosco says:

I don’t know the solution but we can’t just keep delgado destroying this team with the amount of K’s and LOB’s. He is an automatic out and rally killer in the middle of the lineup. The mets need to seriously consider eating some of his contract for the good of the team. He is a $16 million disgrace…Omar needs to do something here…

  178. howellmetsfan says:

Ok right now we have 2 and 1/2 automatic outs in the normal lineup…u are not going to score alot of runs like that…

reyes, castillo and delgado..ill let u figure out who the 1/2 is

    • WrightsRight says:

      reyes=1/2?

      • Aquadealer says:

I hope Delgado doesnt have to leave early for another family matter today

    • Wright88 says:

I’m not so fed up with Castillo. He is a good #8 hitter, he’s got a .370 OBP. Delgado on the other hand has an under .300 OBP which is ridiculous.

  179. Mitten says:

okay, i know we’re winning and i shouldnt complain, but seriosuly, delgado needs to go…hes an automatic out at this point…his swing is horrible, he cant put the ball in play, and he refuses to try to go the other way at all…im not saying he deserved wagner’s comments (i think he did, but that besides the point), its clear that he affects some people in the club house in a negative way, and if youre not positive in the clubhouse and you cant hit, well its time to go.

  180. stickguy says:

I have had enough with Delgado. was there anyone here that didn’t know he would K in the 5th?

They need to either bite the bullet and dump him, or at least go with a strict platoon and never let him start against a lefty (and consider PH if he faces one out of the pen).

I don’t even care at this pint who he platoons with! Nick Evans would be fine (try some young blood), heck even Tatis.

Now, Petite is probably done, so they better do some damage against the soft underbelly of the pen, before they get totally shut down in the 8th an 9th.

Johan, 2 more sut out innings, and hope the pen can give them 2!

  181. edwin nieves says:

What’s up with Jose dancing with a dude in that commercial?! Could he be a :Como se llamas”???

  182. howellmetsfan says:

jesus is Santana could stop giving up the long ball hed be Webbish this year

  183. Wright88 says:

    This ump is horrible

  184. howellmetsfan says:

Actually castillo is the 1/2. He can work a walk, hes slappy but his slappiness get him a few hits/ Reyes is missing that.

  185. skylog says:

another great one johan! let’s see something this inning, at least work him.

  186. Aquadealer says:

If Willie gets fired this weekend in the bronx will he be smart enough to find his way home?

  187. Philnym31 says:

Anyone else finding SNY’s brodcast having some sound trouble?

  188. Wright88 says:

    Someone fix the audio..Go Beltran!

  189. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Nice smart hustle play there Captain Intangibles.

  190. adam900 says:

Our defense has been much better if that is saying anything. I’m starting to have hope in this game.

  191. Metdamage says:

As the innings go on and Santana continues to roll, you can hear the top of Hank Steinbrenners head preparing to blow its top. Look out Cashman.

  192. BlueTrane says:

It sounds like they are broadcasting under water….

  193. gipper82475 says:

Need insurance runs for our sieve, I mean, pen.

  194. Wright88 says:

    GO REYES

  195. ccmetfan says:

    Reyes made it look easy

  196. WrightsRight says:

    There ya go, Jose!

    • WrightsRight says:

Yes, I was tearing him a new one before…maybe that HR gets him going a bit…

  197. gipper82475 says:

    Somebody woke up Jose.

  198. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Great approach by Reyes. He clearly came up there with a plan (by the way he was fouling those balls off eirlier in the AB) and props to him that he excecuted.

  199. BlueTrane says:

    Niiiiiiiiice!

  200. Metdamage says:

Welcome back Reyes. I think this team is a little pissed off.

  201. casey s. says:

Hagin gets a lot of flack, but he did a great job on that at bat. He called Reyes was looking curveball and then Reyes hits a homer off it.

(Not crazy about the Adios! call, but what can you do?)

    • gipper82475 says:

He was prescient on that. But, his general play-by-play is somewhere between poor and adequate He’s the weak link in the entire broadcasting roster, TV and radio.

      • casey s. says:

i agree, but i thought i’d point out a good job by him (as rare as it is and all).

        • gipper82475 says:

I noticed as well. Maybe he could be a color guy and have Howie do all the play-by-play?

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I have been critical of Hagin, but he did a very nice job with Pelfrey’s last start. Everyone remembers how good Pelfrey was in spite of the loss… Well Hagin called a very nice game that afternoon, along with the always excellent Howie.

        • gipper82475 says:

Didn’t listen to radio feed that day. Glad to hear he is improving.

  202. skylog says:

please be a sign of things to come with jose. a great at bat.

  203. WrightsRight says:

    WRIGHT!!

  204. adam900 says:

    WRIGHTEOUS!!!!!!

  205. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

    Beautiful

  206. MainStMets says:

    thatta boy!!!

trip to bronx, just waht dr ordered

  207. casey s. says:

    yes!

  208. Metdamage says:

Ok its official. These guys are pissed off!!! Lets go METS!!!

  209. BlueTrane says:

I love Right Field and I love Kyle Farnsworth!

  210. gipper82475 says:

Oppo field for David. That’s what I like to see!

  211. casey s. says:

i’m so glad to see the mets hit an awful pitcher!

  212. zen says:

fire girardi! how do you bring this guy to pitch in in a close game?

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

      Love it! :)

See guys, you can question ANY manager’s in game moves once you watch them enough.

      ps. Nice play Captain Cologne-Intangibles-Scrappy-Leader-McClutchy.

  213. metsfan42793 says:

ok we have a 4 run lead. dont u think it is about time to put in heilman?

  214. skylog says:

yes! for as bad as it was looking earlier, it is looking that good, if not more, right now. let’s hope this is the start of a new trend.

  215. zen says:

jeter doesn’t play fundamental baseball. drop that. before throws the ball home on infield fly.

  216. gipper82475 says:

Awww Dewek lost in the bwight, bwight sun.

  217. Joe Bacci says:

    give a gameball to jeter.

  218. WrightsRight says:

What could Delgado and Giambi be discussing….

Delgado: man i really suck lately. thought i was coming out of it but…

Giambi: know what you mean. i really suck too. but i’m rich.

Delgado: ah, well, what can you do…

Giambi: i used to know of a place in the Bay Area that was of some help but it’s no longer around

  219. dr jones says:

This team better not take this Yankee team for granted now. Killer instinct Mets.. And tomorrow is the same thing. Bury these teams.. No let up

  220. adam900 says:

    not over yet.

  221. MainStMets says:

get this guy out of town, all he does is give up home runs, how could we trade the farm and then pay him 137 mill to give up home runs to washed up roid users

  222. ..i guess that pathetic delgado hit means that he’s really getting it together now. he’s out of his little 2 year “slump”.

    bat him fourth.

we’ll ride his coattails to the promised land

  223. edwin nieves says:

Guess Jason is wearing that thong today!

  224. Ludacrispat says:

that 0-2 pitch to giambi is inexcusable. throw a high fastball, not something on the outside of the plate he can extend his hands and drive

    • skylog says:

i agree. it will happen, but when the staff as a whole seems plagued by this problem, it should be addressed. there really should not be 0-2 or 1-2 homers as often as there have been.

      • Ludacrispat says:

yup, its like when furcal took perez deep to lead off in LA. nothing wrong with making a count 1-2 and hoping a batter chases.

      • skylog says:

that said, johan has pitched well enough this season to be 6-1, maybe even 7-1 after today. this has also been with what i think he would say has not been his “best stuff” to this point.

  225. ness589 says:

Jesus, can Santana NOT give up 2 home runs every start? Especially to an over-the-hill, crossdressing juicer.

  226. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

some of the comments from here just makes me sick

  227. Darryl Strawberry says:

Just about every great hall of fame pitcher gave up a lot of home runs. I’d rather see that than walking everyone and single after single. Santana is the best pitcher we have had since Gooden in his prime.

    • skylog says:

i am certainly with you on that. i can not stand the walks. make them earn it and trust your defense. of all the hrs he has given up a ton have been solo shots.

  228. AlreadyMissShea says:

Interesting response by Cohen to the results of the text poll.

Did you find Billy Wagner’s comments appropriate?
    YES 80%
    NO 20%

    Gary: “They like the truth!”

  229. Aquadealer says:

Maybe if Alou peed on Delgados hands Carlos cold start hitting

  230. Ludacrispat says:

fire willie example. try that on 0-1, but 0-2? just risking too much

  231. dr jones says:

I hope Castillo and Reyes decided to do that on their own. It was very obvious Church was not getting a good read on this guys pitches

  232. gipper82475 says:

Was tat an 0-2 hit and run?

  233. gipper82475 says:

I hope that was the players’ own initiative. Can’t be a call from the dugout. Even if it was players’ initiative, it was very, very wrong. Fundies. Fundies. Fundies.

    • MetsUKfan says:

actually it looked like castillo tried to steal and reyes followed him (as he should).

And church swung at crap cause you won’t get a strike on purpose and church should have held up.

  234. adam900 says:

Just keep giving them up Johan….. WTF

  235. MainStMets says:

this guy really stinks!!!! how mnay home runs is he going to give up

  236. gipper82475 says:

Ugh, this guy Santana is a homer machine

  237. Ludacrispat says:

whose gonna tell me that santana’s homerun fetish is no big deal now?

its his achilles heel at this point

  238. dr jones says:

think postive Dr. jones,, that mistake last inning isn’t going to haunt them.. keep thinking positive

  239. MainStMets says:

11 dingers in 60 IP, not a good ratio

  240. gipper82475 says:

    Get the hook!

  241. ryno says:

Let Johan try to get out of his own mess. If he loses it at least you went down with your best guy.

  242. MainStMets says:

wagner cant convert 4 out saves ! were done, its all on you willie you gave up thse HRs

  243. Darryl Strawberry says:

This game is going to be tied really quickly if Willie has anything to say about it. Why wasn’t Joe Smith facing Jeter? Why isn’t Feliciano warming up?

  244. WrightsRight says:

    Nothing’s ever easy…

  245. metsfan119 says:

Wow, if the Mets ever blow this one….

    • nrmax88 says:

if the mets blow this one what? wtf will you do? Cry more, complain more? WAAAAAAAAAAAAH Call a waaaahmbulance dude.

  246. Runshouse says:

Why not Joe Smith… hell why not leave Santana.

    • almar1965 says:

Because Santana just gave up his 3rd HR and the tying run was up next.

Wagner for a 4 out save against a lefty the way Wags has been pitching this season was the absolute correct move.

      Watch baseball much?

    • almar1965 says:

Sorry. Didn’t mean to be snippy with my previous post.

      : )

  247. Ludacrispat says:

willie goes to wagner for 4 outs?

o man do you know he’s desperate to keep his job now

  248. gipper82475 says:

Really glad they ran their way out of the top of the 8th! That was so helpful.

  249. metsfan119 says:

This is a good move, if only because he’s facing a lefty.

  250. Ludacrispat says:

well it’s billy’s time to put up or shut up.

  251. dr jones says:

    ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    what wtf

  252. ccmetfan says:

Time for Wagner to step up and not look bad after his comments

  253. metsfan119 says:

Didn’t he blow a 4 run lead in Yankee Stadium a couple years back?

  254. WrightsRight says:

    there ya go wags…

  255. Metdamage says:

Willie moves Castillo to the left, Matsui hits it directly at him. Hmmm.

  256. Darryl Strawberry says:

Big out by Wags, but I’m very nervous of him starting and stopping between innings. Great time for him to pick up this save after Thursday. Maybe that after game interview will be a truning point.

    • metsfan119 says:

Would you rather the Mets takes their chances with someone else? The guy has a 0 ERA.

  257. almar1965 says:

Everyone, putting Wagner there after taking Santana was the correct move. it was apparent that Santana ran out of gas.

Wags has been lights out this season.

I want Willie gone as much as the next guy but that was the correct move.

  258. gipper82475 says:

    Belty triple!

  259. Koko says:

    Take that bug boy!!!

  260. gipper82475 says:

Insurance runner at 3rd, less than 2 outs. Odds the Mets get him home?

  261. Joe Bacci says:

wow… i don’t know how else to interpret that shot of Wagner walking into the dugout…

  262. gipper82475 says:

    100% Alou comes through!

  263. metsfan119 says:

Delgado vs Joba should be good for some laughs

  264. AzMetsFan says:

anybody find it ironic that there is a directv blimp coving the game from above yet they can’t show it on their extra innings package….thank goodness for myp2p.eu

  265. metsfan119 says:

Just rest the bat on your shoulder

  266. apple_outta_da_hat says:

hows that for a laugh… 3-2 thanks 4 the support

  267. almar1965 says:

Wait. I thought Joba the Hut was invincible?

    LOL!

  268. apple_outta_da_hat says:

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  269. WrightsRight says:

gotta hand it to him - great AB…

  270. metsfan119 says:

I guess the stars aligned. He still sucks a$$

  271. MainStMets says:

delgado buys himself a weeks reprise fort hat hot shot and great at bat

  272. gipper82475 says:

    Delgado comes through!

    Festivus miracle!

  273. Metdamage says:

    Great at-bat Delgado!!!

  274. apple_outta_da_hat says:

yeah way to back your “team”
    huh so called metsfan

  275. almar1965 says:

Joba not pumping fist now? Or will he just punch himself in the face?

  276. gipper82475 says:

Ok, c’mon wags! No leadoff walk because you lost your mojo sitting in the dugout.

  277. apple_outta_da_hat says:

its one thing to bash the guys when their playing bad. but as a fan, the least you could do is cheer em’ when their playing well.
    show some support metsfan119

  278. stickguy says:

If Wags somehow manages to blow this (flashback to another game in this park), it will be really, really ugly around here!

  279. metsfan119 says:

    Beautiful, here we go

  280. Koko says:

Look the firey manager’s player didn’t hustle out of the box either. Hmmm. . .. . (ie Giambi should have been at second if he hustled, but he didn’t, even though Girardi is supposed to be a motivated manager).

Another point to show it’s the players.

  281. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

    …aaand, I’m nervous.

  282. Darryl Strawberry says:

Yankee luck once again. I’m so sick of it. C’mon!

  283. gipper82475 says:

    Oh dear Lord.

  284. adam900 says:

    Dont blow this game please….

  285. Metdamage says:

    two jam hits on Wagner

  286. Metdamage says:

Did I just see a Shinjo jersey?

  287. gipper82475 says:

    One more out, baby.

  288. gipper82475 says:

    One more strike, baby.

  289. metsfan119 says:

    That was strike 3

  290. Metdamage says:

    1-2 slider was strike three

  291. metsfan119 says:

I swear to god, these umps…..

  292. adam900 says:

    GAME OVER!!!!

  293. metsfan119 says:

Great win Mets, Willie you still suck

  294. apple_outta_da_hat says:

no that was strike 3… ya jinx!!!

  295. Steve in DC says:

    Phew!

  296. gipper82475 says:

    Put it in the books!!!!!!

  297. stickguy says:

Even Wagner has to make us suffer.

It seems like the worst thing a Met pitcher can do is get ahead 0-2!

    Except for Wags. The Man!

I don’t care if they all run their mouths every day, as long as they perform like this.

  298. MainStMets says:

    NY NY for our W

    thanks yanks

  299. dr jones says:

    GREAT GAME METS,,

NICE TO SEE THESE GUYS LOOKING LIKE THEY WANT TO BE OUT THERE!!!!!!

  300. InsaneMetsFan says:

    Santana has been extremely disappointing.

    • mrose says:

      sarcasm right?

    • you’d be happier if he lost the game?

    • Metdamage says:

How so, the homers? ok 11 homers in what 61 innings.
the Mets are 6-0 in the last 6 straight games he has pitched.
Then he goes into Yankee stadium, in a game that if the Mets lost would set off the entire city, and pitches 71/3 innings of good baseball.

Santana led this team today regardless of the homers he gave up.

      • InsaneMetsFan says:

You hit the nail on the head, he gave us 7 2/3 of “good” basaeball, weren’t we all led to believe he was supposed to be great??

        • kjmcc0729 says:

i agree with insane. 3 home runs is too much for our ace. he has been good enough this year to give up a lot of solo shots, otherwise his era would have taken a bigger hit. other than the HR’s he pitched well though. just too many long balls!

        • hernandez1786 says:

santanas HRs are troubling yes but we win when pitchers and he give sup HR’s but nothing else . works out of jams walks and trouble ….no reason to be diapointed with him at all , Wins is all that matters and nothing else

  301. Ludacrispat says:

wags coming up big as always

    lets sweep ‘em tomorrow!

  302. Metdamage says:

This team played at a high level today and that is very encouraging to see.

  303. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

team a an extra step today after the relay at the plate

  304. dr jones says:

I will say this,, this game was all about Willie Randolph and the players knew it the fans knew it. The came out and played hard for him and that what we all want.

I have been very very outspoken in regards to Willie loosing this team. If this can become the norm and then I will shut my mouth and not say another work about Willie.

  305. ccmetfan says:

Great win with great defense. The offense kept on hitting after Mets were down 2-0 in first inning

  306. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

johan gives up solo shots it does not matter, thi was the game. now tommorrow is a free 1 with he erattic ollie vs. wang.

  307. Darryl Strawberry says:

Santana has been everything but disappointing. He should only have one loss this year and that’s the Brewers game. He’s a bulldog and just getting warmed up. Don’t forget new league, four different cathers, new team, New York and all the controversy surrounding the team. Give him a break. He has been outstanding.

    • AlouIsNasty says:

Couldn’t have said it better myself. The people who expect players to be perfect from the get-go most likely have never touched a baseball in their life.

    • hyperion4 says:

The list of great pitchers who gave up lots of HRs is a long one. Robin Roberts, Catfish Hunter, Ferguson Jenkins, etc.

What most impressed me is that Santana never stopped challenging hitters with his fastball, never got cute. That really helped keep his pitch count down.

Nice to be able to skip the middle/setup guys and go straight to Wagner.

    • blains2000 says:

Plus, they had a stat early in the year that April is Santana’s worst month.

      • sincekindergarten says:

Not only that, but in ‘06, the last year that Santana won a Cy Young, he was 10-1 in 13 starts, with a 2.66 ERA, after the ASB. The fact that he’s winning games like he is now is gravy–what we expected when he came to the Mets, but gravy nonetheless.

  308. hyperion4 says:

Put it in them thar books.

  309. zen says:

it’s time for girardi to go. last place yankees? with that payroll?

the team doesn’t respond to him. brings in farnsworth. jeter made 2 huge mistakes. no leadership.

    let’s go mets!

  310. Church says:

Santana does give up a bunch of homeruns, how many of them were not solos though? Jose looked excited today, and even Willie looked more into it than usual. I wish we always played better teams cause it just seems like they take to many games for granted since 06. I watched on YES today so I dont know if they mentioned that stuff today. Great game from the Mets today.

    • Church says:

Side note, big Lets Go Mets chant at the stadium today at the end of the game.

  311. Darryl Strawberry says:

Tom Seaver gave up a ton of home runstoo and he’s one of the best ever. Santana and Schneider are still developing chemistry.

  312. dr jones says:

I had to watch the Yes network today and loved the shot of Reyes coming back into the dugout and Willie giving him a huge High five. Great to see a little excitement coming out of that dugout.

I’ve been downright mean to Willie over the past few days. I truly believed this team gave up on him. If he can get this effort from these guys regularly then I and WE have nothing to say..

    • gipper82475 says:

      That is a huge IF.

      • kjmcc0729 says:

I want to piss in your cornflakes for a moment. the mets won the game, yes, but the yankees did a lot to lose this game also. dumb baserunning, no clutch hitting, and an unreliable bullpen. The mets had the bases loaded and nobody out and scored 2 runs on a walk and hit that went 10 feet! alou was picked-off taking a lead! i can’t sit and and say that i am any more confident about this team turning the page than i was yesterday. Willie gives Reyes a high-five and all is right in Mudville? we have a game tomorrow night that we need to win. and then 4 in atlanta, where the wins will truly matter. let’s reserve our enthusiasm until these guys can win a few in a row.

        • MudvilleNine says:

Hey, Mudville is doing just fine thank you. I remember lately that we’ve had bases loaded no outs several times and didnt score a run. We got two today. Thats a step in the right direction. Have to walk before you can run. You could have said that whole inning was luck, a check swing hit, a broken bat hit, a seeing eye grounder, 2 walks, and a swinging bunt for 3 runs. Well you know what? Thats baseball. That stuff happens and as we’ve seen it usually happens against us. Nice to see the Pendulum of Fate swing to our side for a change. But you know what? You make your own breaks and thats what they did. Yankees no clutch hitting, dumb baserunning (I have no idea what you’re talking about there cause it took a perfect relay to throw Damon out), and an unreliable bullpen. Well fella you just described the Mets for at least half their games. Teams took advantage of that against us, and so we took advantage of it against them. Oh, and I dont eat cornflakes so go right ahead and piss in them, doesnt bother me.

  313. Metdamage says:

Both the Yankees and the Mets came into this game reeling. They sent out their aces. Santana, with all eyes on him including yankee brass and Brian cashman praying he would get crushed,
showed a level of toughness on the mound that I haven’t seen the Mets have since Hampton in 2000.

Santana gave up 3 homers and STILL beat the Yankees in Yankee stadium. That says a ton about Santana and the Mets today.

  314. edwin nieves says:

I think Giambi’s ‘Gold Lame” thong is Sticky Brown about now.lol

  315. dr jones says:

The mets need to start printing up some Church and Maine jerseys,, can’t find them online anywhere.. Have any of you guys seen them around?

  316. InsaneMetsFan says:

    Santana was extremely disappointing today.

    • Phantaroth says:

      Your name is true! haha!

    • Innis_2_winnis says:

I disagree, Insane. Don;t get caught up in the “ace label” and some pie in the sky projections. We signed arguably the best pitcher in the game over the last few years. We got a little overzealous with talk of 20+ wins. He has thusfar done almost exactly what his numbers suggested he’d do to this point if he stayed in the AL…BUT…he switched to a new league, with new catchers, and not knowing the hitters.

      Year Month HR ERA
      08 Apr 6 3.24
May (so far) 4 3.00 (ERA not adjusted for today)

      07 Apr 6 3.60
      May 6 2.73
      06 Apr 4 4.45
      May 5 2.72
      05 Apr 3 3.55
      May 5 3.83

To replicate his typical April & May numbers this year with all those changes is very impressive. He’s kept us in ballgames. He’s been a stand up guy. He’s someone we can rally behind. And he’s only gonna get better as it warms.

My gut tells me to believe the numbers. He’s no disappointment. Perhaps your preseason hopes and projections were a bit overzealous.

Darryl Strawberry does one hell of a job on the post game show. Very impressed..

I agree with this, plus having Harold Reynolds on board doesn’t hurt either. I like when SNY has these guys in the studio.

Good team effort today. Everyone contributed, including Willie with his insisting that castillo move over to be in perfect position to field the last out. Nice work and a good game to build on.

  320. I think Klapisch is upset. He had his Willie-is-doomed and Santana-is-a-bust story all ready and primed to go after today’s game. Now he has to go write another.

    no postgame?

Armando Benitez has come in for the Blue Jays against the Phils for AJ Burnett, who left with a man on first and one out and a 4-1 lead.

It is now 4-3, still one out and Jayson Werth out. JRoll on second.

    He continues to haunt us.

Guys giving high fives, guys actually talking to each other, Willie showing a pulse, and a team playing with some urgency. Who was this team?
