    Great American League lineup

    • Constnza81V2.0 says:

Agreed. I know Endy is great on D but Marlon is such a better bat and I really wish he got more starts.

  2. teufelshuffle86 says:

Let’s hope the Mets break out of their “score 7 runs on Saturday, put up two hits on Sunday” routine. Yanks are struggling. Need to strike while the iron is hot!

    • Nightlife says:

Or get over their “never win on Sunday night on ESPN against the Yankees” routine.

  3. Nightlife says:

About to head to the bar to watch.

    LET’S GO METS!!

  4. Dave H says:

Any word on the weather out there?

  5. InsaneMetsFan says:

Hopefully Perez won’t be as disappointing as Santana was yesterday.

    • oklametsfan says:

we get it. put the sarcasm stick away and stop beating us over the head with it.

      please.

    • Danny1986 says:

we get it. you got your point across. congrats.

    • Stems says:

if you mean not having your best stuff, falling behind early, then still keeping your team in it for over 7 innings in an eventual victory, ill take that “disappointing” start like Santana’s any day.

      • darkstar73 says:

he’s obviously more concerned with stats then wins, which is probably some sort of testament to the fantasy mindset that has taken over. As a Met fan, there’s nothing more important then a Met win. Bottom line.

        • oklametsfan says:

i really think he’s just being sarcastic in an effort to get attention, which sadly we are all giving him, myself included.

      • Danny1986 says:

dude…this was covered on another thread. He completely overplayed this pile of sh*t argument.

        please don’t encourage him.

    • KinersKornerman says:

IMF, what would it take to make you happy?
      8IP OR 0H 18K 0BB ??

  6. PacmanJones says:

So we have the chance to go for a sweep (although 2 games) and Willie isn’t running out his B/C lineup? Shocking!! Geez, what is he managing for his job or something?!?!?!

    • metsfan119 says:

      better late than never

    • boosmakelittlesense says:

you put your B lineup too keep your A players fresh because its a full season…not cause you feel like jerking off the third game of a series. Willie’s not perfect, but use some valid criticism, and find me a single NL manager who doesn’t do that.

  7. Darryl Strawberry says:

You’ve got to be kidding me that Santana was disappointing. He pitched to the score and we won. The back to back 6 pitch innings when Pettite was struggling was key. Do you expect him to pitch a shutout everytime?

  8. khmustache says:

    that yankees song sucks

  9. PacmanJones says:

Sunday Night baseball with the idiots Morgan and Miller is really terrible, but that was a nice intro.

    • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

      Pacman,

I completely agree. I thought that intro was awesome!

  10. boosmakelittlesense says:

they’re taking the tarp off. Want them to win, but want more to see a continuation of yesterday – do whatever you have to to get a lead, and tack on some runs later.

A lot of people say that the Yankee series means nothing. In the standings, it means absolutely nothing since it doesn’t affect other team’s standings in the NL….but I think the Yankees series was just what this team needed to jump-start the last 75% of the season.

Can’t say the comments on Willie are fair or unfair…all i know is that the people that seem to blame Willie for all the faults of the current team….I guarantee they would not credit Willie if it got turned around.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I’m pretty much done talking about the manager at this point. All I will say to that is that I think it works both ways. There are some people who will not blame Willie for anything, ever. Even when the Mets broadcasters have confimed that he was wrong on something.

I really don’t care about the manager anymore. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle anyway. And my guess is that even if he finishes the season, the Wilpons are going to go with something new for Citi Field. But again, for the last time, I don’t care. From now on, for me anyway, it’s all about the team. Unless Willie is grabbing a bat or a glove tonight, I’m not interested.

  11. AlreadyMissShea says:

Already have the sound turned down and music on the satellite radio turned up. I’m in no mood for Miller and Morgan tonight.

  12. EliPorter says:

MEET the mets… meet the mets… i had to have that interrupted by that yankees garbage!??

  13. PacmanJones says:

Do you guys think Morgan and Miller actually watch baseball during the week or just show up to Ramble on Sunday nights?

    • aj522 says:

I don’t think they even watch baseball on Sunday…..

      • Gina says:

        x2.

what’s hilarious is they seem to be rambling about to completely different things most of the time.

    • Danny1986 says:

      they are so painful.

    • gomets6091 says:

how much better would it be if they did like a “mix and match” booth for these Sunday games, taking broadcasters from both teams. The nice thing about this series is we could get a booth of Hernandez or Darling plus Coney.

  14. EliPorter says:

“he reminds me of brandon ….. webb- in the arizona…. in the diamondbacks”- joe morgan

    • metsfan119 says:

He also feels that he’ll win the Cy Young this year in the National American League.

  15. EliPorter says:

its so clear peter gammons is reading off a teleporter… and that music is HORRIBLE!!

  16. khmustache says:

over-under on the first big red machine mention?

  17. metsfan119 says:

If Peter Gammons is going for the old lesbian look, he’s nailed it.

  18. aj522 says:

Maybe Morgan will point out that Castillo should play good defense, since he has spent his whole career in MN and is finally back in an AL ballpark…….

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Or point out that he [Morgan] was part of the Big Red machine. I’m sure he’ll drop that in about 6 or 7 times.

  19. metsfan42793 says:

y dont they just get gary keith and ron to do meet sunday night games. miller and morgan r so boring. if jose reyes is up this is what miller would say ” now batting is jose reyes the 24 switch hitter from the dominican republic” like we didnt already know it.

  20. teufelshuffle86 says:

Can’t wait for three hours of the over-the-top PE-rez and Bel-TRAN calls by Jon Miller.

  21. PacmanJones says:

Why won’t espn fire this idiots? I’d rather listen to Mike Tiriacho, whether he watches baseball or not.

  22. metsfan42793 says:

miller sounds like a frickin robot

  23. eligoodrich says:

i was at the game yesterday, many more met fans then yankee fans.just you only realized it when the mets were doin well

  24. Gina says:

Did he not touch that ball before it hit the ground?

  25. IamJohn says:

    Why Isn’t Delgado hitting 3rd?

  26. khmustache says:

    who’s playing 3rd? ray charles?

  27. metsfan119 says:

Wow, I wish Pelfrey could throw a sinker like that guy

  28. darkstar73 says:

you gotta wait Wang out, swinging at him early in the count is not usually the way to go with him.

  29. Darryl Strawberry says:

I agree. I’m suprised they didn’t take some pitches.

  30. Steve in DC says:

How come no one makes race-baiting comments about Los Yanquis?

  31. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    Come on OP!

  32. metsfan119 says:

    here comes the statue

  33. IamJohn says:

    Perez looks good!

  34. teufelshuffle86 says:

Why are the Mets playing a DH on Tuesday? Both teams have an off day on Monday. Why wouldn’t they play the make up on Monday instead of a DH on Tuesday? Doesn’t make much sense.

    • hi5wright says:

because there is a limit to how many games you are allowed to play without a day off (i think its something like 21) and if they played tomorrow their next day off would be a lot more than 21(if that IS the correect #) straight games without a day off

      • hi5wright says:

at least that what Richard Neer said

        • teufelshuffle86 says:

They play 23 straight games from August 5-27. There must be another reason.

      • hyperion4 says:

It’s not that they’re not *allowed* to play that many days in a row, but that the collective bargaining agreement leaves it up to the team’s players to veto it if it’s that many days in a row.

  35. khmustache says:

    i

    hate

    joe

    morgan

  36. metsfan119 says:

These guys broadcast like they’re on the radio. Let the game breath!

    • gomets6091 says:

      nailed it.

I would pay money to never have to hear Jon Miller’s voice again. I know most people hate Morgan, but I don’t find him half as insufferable as Miller.

  37. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

oh god, i have to put my tv on mute

  38. RetireNumber17 says:

I didn’t see the play, but did I hear Morgan say that Anderson didn’t run out that dropped pop-up? That was only foul by a little bit, right? Don’t these guys ever learn?

  39. Church says:

Did you hear Jon Miller all pumped up on Giambi’s pick.

    • Maineiac says:

Well you know, Giambi is wearing his golden thong. It gives him flexibility when it comes to fielding.

  40. metsfan119 says:

Sorry Disney. the NBA sucks, and all the shameless plugging isn’t going to change that fact

    • khmustache says:

nah…the nba just sucks in ny…it’s pretty good everywhere else

      • metsfan119 says:

Drive timeout drive timeout – commercial –

        Yeah, it’s a blast

        • khmustache says:

          pitcher gets ready…batter steps out…batter gets ready…throw to first…

        • darkstar73 says:

well if you actually watched the games the whole way through, your opinion would probably be more informed then what you just stated. But hey, when you’re tuning into the last 3 minutes, sure, thats what you’ll get. I’ll always say this though, college basketball only seems more fun because the players aren’t as good, there are more mistakes, a too easy 3 point shot, much worse defense.

        • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

The last 3 minutes are all that matter. I’d like to see the % of games that are within 5 points in the last 3 minutes. I bet it’s astronomically high. NBA games should just be 3 minutes. They can play a 753 game schedule….and double headers.

  41. metsfan42793 says:

y the heck r they talking bout basketball. and has anyone noticed the thing on top of the scoreboard like giambi on a 3-1 count is whatever.

    • metsftw says:

      been like that all season……………..

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

That is obnoxious. WGAF what their average is on a given count. It means nothing.

      • WrightsRight says:

It’s typical shameless ESPN promotional BS…even worse than FOX

      • metsftw says:

it doesn’t? do you…watch baseball? ever played…? and as for “obnoxious,” you probably can’t even read the text on a smaller TV. apparently you don’t speak/write english very much either.

        • teufelshuffle86 says:

What about my last post was grammatically incorrect? Didn’t realize we had a Rhodes Scholar amongst us.

My point was that ESPN is always giving us numbers that are completely unnecessary. I would put the “average on a given count” with the likes of “the last player to double on the road after the leadoff hitter got hit by a pitch while hitting from both sides of the plate” stat. I’ve been watching baseball for a long time and numbers like that don’t really mean anything. If a guy is hitting .138 with a 1-1 count and gets a hit, what exactly did that number tell me?

        • metsftw says:

you clearly don’t know what the word “obnoxious” means. this puts you in joe morgan’s company, unfortunately, because he doesn’t know what the word “accountability” means.

and if you seriously need me to explain this to you…no, i don’t have the 3 hours it’ll take to spell this out to you, so get that brain of yours working on it.

  42. EliPorter says:

glad oliver is in elite company …. with barry zito

  43. metsfan119 says:

    NICE!

  44. EliPorter says:

    church!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. metsfan42793 says:

    MVP!!!!!!!!

  46. Gina says:

    I <3 Ryan Church.

  47. IamJohn says:

    there we go!

  48. giuseppe franco says:

    Ryan Church>Lastings Milledge

  49. Jefferies 9 says:

    Gotta love Church …

  50. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

    Unbelievable. I love you church!

  51. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Great catch by Church.!!!

  52. WrightsRight says:

    Church=GG

  53. Darryl Strawberry says:

Church just made two plays that inning that Shawn Green and Xavier Nady do not make.

  54. Jefferies 9 says:

Go to Fiberama …. You’ll be pleased !!!!

  55. gomets6091 says:

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I LOVE Ryan Church

  56. Darryl Strawberry says:

Perez is already walking a thin line. Unlike Santana he does not get better as the game goes on.

  57. Church says:

I had a feeling he was gonna be my favorite Met this year.

  58. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Church On Time !!

    Lastings who???

  59. hi5wright says:

i love church!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant get enough of this guy.

  60. AlreadyMissShea says:

FYI: If you have XM Radio, they carry the old Wolfman Jack shows. He dropped a few Mets references on the show they’re playing right now. I really idolized this guy when I was a kid, but don’t remember him ever talking about baseball or even saying anything that would have made me think he cared about it.

Still rather listen to him then the guys most of you are listening to now! :)

So to recap: Miller and Morgan turned down. Music turned up. And right outside my window, a great view of the Empire State Building lit up in Mets orange and blue.* Not a bad way to spend an evening at home.

*ESB is lit up Mets orange and blue on the East and West sides of the building. Yankees colors on the North and South sides. If the Mets win tonight, the whole building goes orange and blue. If they split it stays the way it is. Just a bit of trivia if anyone cares.

    • khmustache says:

i’ve actually always wondered about that…thanks

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

The building? I don’t remember them ever doing the split sides before, but I didn’t live where I could see it before, so I never really paid much attention.

But for a few years now, the winner of the series gets their colors up there for the entire city to see. Since the Mets can only split, there will be at least some orange and blue up there tonight, if not all around. I don’t know why I enjoy this stuff so much, but it’s really cool.

  61. EliPorter says:

wangs thrown 19 pitches to the first 7 batters ……….

  62. A7Xrhcp57 says:

now where are all of the fans complaining about that trade

  63. Maineiac says:

How much are they going to talk about Wagner. Last time I checked it has been resolved. No need to beat the dead horse. But at least its better than them talking about the all mighty Yankees who can do no wrong in their eyes.

    Let’s Go Mets!

    • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

Joe Morgan does hate the Yankees. He is definitley not on their sac like the rest of the national media.

  64. Gina says:

I wish Joe Morgan would say accountability just one more time.

  65. gomets6091 says:

seriously, can you imagine where this team would be if they replaced Church’s .309/.379/.530, 8 HR, 30 RBI and gold glove worthy defense with Milledge’s .240/.312/.325, 1 HR, 14 RBI and frequent brain lapses in the field? And that’s not even thinking about Schneider.

    • EliPorter says:

come on, i know you miss Do Luca… or Lo Duca??? what is it again?

    • Maineiac says:

      Thank You Omar!

    • darkstar73 says:

the thing with Milledge is, he might turn out to be a fine offensive player as a CF, but the way he’s playing right now, he isn’t a true CF, not nearly good enough to command staying there, its just the Nats have no one better. When Milledge switches to a corner spot, does he still have the offensive skills to merit being a good player? we’ll see.

  66. Darryl Strawberry says:

This is the last thing the Mets needed was to face Wang at the top of his game. They are playing right into his hands too, swinging at the first or second pitch. Perez better get ahold of himself, one run is going to win this game. Wang looks totally in control.

    • metsfan119 says:

It’s not a coincidence the Yanks are throwing out their best arms against the Mets.

      • darkstar73 says:

and throwing Santana against the Yanks wasn’t doing that? or should we have pushed up Maine and skipped Ollie in this turn? that would have been smart…skip Ollie, mess with his psyche even more!

        • metsfan119 says:

What are you a senile old man? Who are you arguing with? I’m just saying the Yanks are going to be throwing out their best pitchers against the Mets.

    • Maineiac says:

Wang is the only bright spot on the Yankees team.

I would sure love to have him on the Mets, how about we give them Aaron Heilman, Nelson Figueroa, and Damion Easley for him?

      That’s a fair trade.

  67. WrightsRight says:

Stop talking about Yadier ^%$#@ Molina…

  68. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

Oh Boy…Wang is make this look too easy

  69. PacmanJones says:

    BIG RED MACHINE!

  70. darkstar73 says:

    big red machine mention!

  71. EliPorter says:

such an ollie perez throw to first

  72. IamJohn says:

    Shut Up Pete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  73. khmustache says:

    sweet! julio lugo that gammons!

  74. gomets6091 says:

I love when Jose is hitting and getting excited

  75. metsfan119 says:

Please tell me they’re not bunting Reyes over

  76. Maineiac says:

    ACCOUNTABILITY!

  77. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    sweet! some action

  78. oklametsfan says:

yes sir! there ya go jose.

(and now waiting for someone to mention that he did it on the first pitch)

  79. EliPorter says:

accountability…. why bunt with anderson… hes a lefty and wangs a ground ball pitcher… chances are he hits a ball to the right side

  80. Jefferies 9 says:

    Bonehead play !!!!

  81. Gina says:

    that sucks

  82. iGoToRyansChurch says:

    are you kidding me

  83. IamJohn says:

Why Not get in a run down to move anderson up!

  84. EliPorter says:

and reyes makes another base running blunder… he was trying to act smart with wang and wang got the last laugh

  85. metsfan119 says:

a baserunning error by Reyes? surely you jest

  86. Gina says:

    Where was Reyes’s accountability???

  87. metsfan119 says:

    lovely

  88. WrightsRight says:

    head. out. of. a$$.

  89. EliPorter says:

    oh that hurts there…

  90. Maineiac says:

Are you smarter than a fifth grader… Mets edition!

  91. metsfan119 says:

    bunt them over Willie

  92. darkstar73 says:

I mean, reyes is leading off 2nd, what is he supposed to do? be 2 feet off 2nd, and thats it?

  93. nova86 says:

gimme a break he wouldnt have gotten back anyway

  94. GregB says:

    Shut up Joe!
    Shut up Joe!
    Shut up Joe!

    Shut up Jon!

I want Gary, Keith and Ron!

Sweet Jesus, will someone please tell Joe Morgan to shut up!!!!!!!

    • I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

just put it on mute… thats what i did

    • Maineiac says:

Well beggars can’t be choosers. Good job Delgado.

PHUCK YOU UMPIRES, GET OFF YOUR KNEES YOUR BLOWIN” THE GAME!

  95. aj522 says:

Well, that isn’t Reyes’ fault…it’s Anderson’s……baseball according to Morgan.

  96. metsfan119 says:

wow, there are a lot of Mets fans there

  97. iGoToRyansChurch says:

if joe morgan doesnt shut the hell up im gonna have to liten to the radio. these two guys have to be the worst announcers in baseball. id rather lidten to 2 newborns crying for three hours than listen to these guys

  98. oklametsfan says:

    ohhhhh church, come on buddy.

  99. iGoToRyansChurch says:

come on ryan we need u in this spot!!

  100. Gina says:

Church is pretty much the only guy in the line-up I would want up in this situation.

  101. metsfan119 says:

    come on Church, grand slam

  102. iGoToRyansChurch says:

    niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicccceeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  103. khmustache says:

    YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES

  104. gomets6091 says:

Golden Boy couldn’t make the play…I’ll take it.

  105. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

    OFF THE BAG!

  106. metsfan119 says:

Guess the thong was riding up his ass

  107. Jay says:

Church can seriously do no wrong… even when he hits just a ground ball.

  108. WrightsRight says:

Awesome…becoming more and more convinced that Keith Hernandez is the only 1B who can actually turn that DP…

  109. metsfan119 says:

Alou makes me nervous with the potential DP

  110. metsfan119 says:

    YEA!!!!!

  111. iGoToRyansChurch says:

    nice swing alou

  112. oklametsfan says:

  115. darkstar73 says:

  116. iGoToRyansChurch says:

that might have been a homer if that was full

  117. Jay says:

  128. ryno says:

  135. Jefferies 9 says:

    Unbelieveable !!!!

  136. darkstar73 says:

ARE YOU KIDDING??? i’ve never seen the umps convene on a call so quickly like that, what BS, Jeter runs over to an ump and they over turn it. BS

  137. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

GODDMANIT USE A F’ING INSTANT REPLAY. HOW HARD IS THIS AND HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO GET BURNED BY THIS!

  138. metsfan119 says:

    YES!!! FINALLY

  139. metsfan42793 says:

    JERRY JERRY JERRY

  140. iGoToRyansChurch says:

thats good. get the team fired up

  141. ryno says:

At least Jerry Manuel has some fire.

  142. Ryn05 says:

    Good job Jerry.

  143. WrightsRight says:

Can we just suck it up and have replay…..

    • Ryn05 says:

      We’re about 10 years overdue.

    • gomets6091 says:

seriously. So ridiculous that they could easily get these calls right but they don’t. And I’m a “traditionalist” who hates the DH, interleague and the wild card.

  144. Maineiac says:

    Jeter is a phag!

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I’ve heard switch hitter actually. OK, everyone’s heard that. But where there’s smoke there’s fire.

  145. casey s. says:

there should absolutely be a reevaluation of all umps. these guys suck.

  146. egnirc says:

    Stupid Yankee loving umpires.

  147. dykstraw says:

jerry manuel just got thrown out of the game, but willie might have gotten thrown out of a job

    BAD JOB BLUE

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I missed the ejection. How did Manuel get thrown out? I went and called someone when the BS call went down and missed a few secs there. Maybe more than a few secs I guess.

  148. metsfan42793 says:

if the mets lose cuz of this i will kill bob davidson and jeter. i guess there is a new rule in baseball. if jeter says it isnt a homer its not

  149. PacmanJones says:

Jerry took one for Willie, someone had to go, Jerry stepped up, JERRY MANUEL FOR MANAGER! HE HAS HIS PLAYERS/MANAGERS BACK!!!

  150. metsfan119 says:

    I’m so pissed right now

  151. darkstar73 says:

how on earth could they call that a foul ball? if that was foul, it would have HAD to have gone into the seats, such BS

  152. casey s. says:

i don’t understand this…the closest ump immediately calls it fair. how the hell can you overturn that?

  153. nova86 says:

willie was yelling at the ump and you could hear the ump shout “shut up willie” and then that pissed jerry off. they were both showing fire.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I missed that. So they were both getting in the umps face and Jerry was the one who took it one step over the line? If that’s what happened I can live with that. What I don’t understand is how Jeter can get something overturned when the ump who was responsible for making that call already called it a HR.

  154. IamJohn says:

That Joe Morgan, He is SO smart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  155. gomets6091 says:

yep Joe, EVERY single play would get reviewed, just like they do in the NFL. Man, those games are SO long…

  156. Jefferies 9 says:

Joe Morgan has not a clue in the world !!!

  157. metsfan42793 says:

cuz jeter said it was foul

  158. metsfan119 says:

Great idea taking the word of the Yankee f’ing centerfielder, what pros

  159. iGoToRyansChurch says:

omg shut the f*** up jon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  160. metsfan42793 says:

HOW BOUT THEY CALL THAT ONE FOUL

  161. oklametsfan says:

ok, before everyone jumps all over willie (i know too late). from that looks of it, Jerry went and looked at a tv and clearly saw it was a fair ball and thus his arguing.

ah, whats the difference. jump all over him

  162. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

    WAXIN!

  163. khmustache says:

that looked like a foul to me

  164. nova86 says:

    YA FUKK YOU UMPS

  165. gomets6091 says:

alright Carlos….you got screwed but at least you made up for it a bit

  166. metsfan119 says:

Great job Delgado, two hits and 4 RBIS is one at bat

  167. MetsFan4Decades says:

Not a home run but Delgado stuck it to ‘em !!!!

  168. darkstar73 says:

f the umps, f the yankees, LETS GO METS!

  169. PacmanJones says:

    DELGRAMPA!!! GREAT AT BAT!

  170. dykstraw says:

hopefully this won’t matter and we’ll plate 2 more here

  171. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

    Yea, delgado. Fuk ‘em.

  172. iGoToRyansChurch says:

see thats what they desrve bitc*es

  173. EliPorter says:

im glad to see jerry manuel get ejected: stand up for your players

  174. egnirc says:

Jeter thong sniffing umpire thats why it got overturned.

  175. casey s. says:

garbage…the guy closest to the play calls fair and the three guys furthest overturn him DEFINITIVELY. How the hell can they be so definitive?

  176. metsfan119 says:

Come on karma, work it baby

  177. adam900 says:

guys its the Yankees, everything goes their way. At least Delgado got the RBI, should be 6-0 though.

  178. iGoToRyansChurch says:

    damn

  179. gomets6091 says:

not gonna lie, I like Robinson Cano. I wish he was on the Mets.

  180. metsfan42793 says:

if there was a homer to straight away center theyd call it foul

  181. gipper82475 says:

Generally, I am against replay in baseball…but cases like that abomination make me think twice.

    • metsfan119 says:

there’s gotta be for homers, I’ve seen too many overturned calls

    • gomets6091 says:

the way I look at it is, if replay had been available in 1876, do you really think the founders of the National League wouldn’t have used it, back before there was such a thing as “tradition” in pro baseball?

  182. darkstar73 says:

i hate this ump, what kind of bs call was that? low and outside!

  183. NY Cuban says:

JERRY MANUEL JUST GOT A JOB!!!

  184. PacmanJones says:

When will castillo swing without having 2 strikes in the count?!??!?

  185. iGoToRyansChurch says:

    come on castiNO

  186. Maineiac says:

    PHUCK THE UMPIRES!

  187. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oliver’s Army came through. Now can he hold the lead ???

  188. benny says:

    highway robbery!

  189. Kayemtee says:

I’m sorry, but I don’t see how Randolph doesn’t put up enough of an argument to get thrown out of this game. He’s a pussy and needs to go.

    • Maineiac says:

Jerry Manuel for Manager. Willie can compete for the bat boy’s job.

    • nova86 says:

he did, and then the ump threw out jerry bc they were both arguing

    • NY Cuban says:

Exactly…needs to go on the spot. I hope you’re watching Wilpons. “I fight for my guys”, my ass!!!

    • darkstar73 says:

are you kidding? Willie was the first one out of the dugout, Jerry saw the replay and went nuts, he protected willie so willie didn’t need to get kicked. You could see willie yelling during the whoel thing in the dugout.

    • IamJohn says:

      Ditto!!!!

    • gomets6091 says:

what the hell is the point of getting kicked out of the game? I HATE when people get kicked out of games. He wasn’t gonna get that call overturned, so what’s the point?

    • egnirc says:

I’m sorry, but are you even watching the game and what happened?

Willie was yelling at the umpire, umpire was yelling at Willie to shut up, Jerry Manuel joined in and got thrown out.

Was that turn of events too complex for you to see?

      • darkstar73 says:

apparently so, but hey, when you’re wearing your “willie is the root of all bad” glasses, that probably leads to that.

  190. metsfan119 says:

I don’t want to hear Yankee fans bitch about calls the whole rest of the game

    • nova86 says:

      year*

    • Maineiac says:

You know they will. Yankee fans are the pu$$ies of the MLB.

Matt, I apologize for the foul language, but I am really upset. If you delete my posts, I understand.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

It’s ok to say pu$$ies, but once this series is over, please cool it on the word Yankee for a while. There’s foul language, and then there’s the just plain obscene.

  191. iGoToRyansChurch says:

ooooooooooooooooooooooooo we got a break there

  192. metsfan119 says:

Come of Reyes, rip the freaking cover off of the ball

  193. PacmanJones says:

The ump didn’t want to toss Willie, he screamed “shut up willie!” He probably didn’t want to toss him because Willie was back in the bronx, but Willie and the staff knew that somebody had to get tossed in that situation. Jerry realized this and took one for the team. Mad respect Jerry. BTW, WANG just showed up the ump after that ball 3 call and the ump didn’t say anything to WANG.

  194. nova86 says:

    damon=doofus

  195. Maineiac says:

Yep. Matt deleted my post. Just as I thought.

    • Maineiac says:

Never mind. They are still there. :)

      • PacmanJones says:

No matter what you think, Cerrone doesn’t sit around and monitor the comments section and delete posts, he has better things to do during the game.

        • Maineiac says:

Well It’s my first time posting in the game section. I wasn’t aware if the posts are monitored or not.

  196. gipper82475 says:

Absurd inning. These umps ought to be embarassed when they see that replay.

    • Maineiac says:

They don’t give a rat’s behind. They still make money, a few million upset fans don’t bother them.

Unless the media rips them up. Come on SNY you know you want to do it!

  197. WrightsRight says:

what the hell is with reyes?? why can’t he help himself?

  198. gomets6091 says:

    great Budweiser commercial

  199. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

that was a long inning for OP… hold on to you hats people

  200. benny says:

hey, insaneyankeefan! how’s your ace doing now? so much for your 8 innings 1er outing. you got a huge break! the mets are up against 13 men instead of nine!

    • darkstar73 says:

yeah seriously, what’s up with the Yankees’ “ace” and his supposed 8 IP of 1 ER?

  201. boosmakelittlesense says:

reyes led off the inning with a double and had a baserunning booboo…give me a break on the pop up…

but seriously…ollie needs to have a quick inning if he’s ever had one before….

  202. MeesesGlokmah says:

    Umpire hunting season just opened.

  203. Darryl Strawberry says:

You know some of the players saw that in the clubhouse and got word to the dugout that the ball was fair. Willie should’ve gone absolutely crazy.

    • boosmakelittlesense says:

willie did crazy..just cause he didn’t get thrown out doesn’t mean he didn’t get crazy..

GAWD ollie CAN YOU PLEASE GET A 123 inning????

    • egnirc says:

I’m just going to consider that you are not watching the game at all with your comment there.
He went crazy on 2 occasions.
Once on the field, and once in the dugout.

There are no catering tables to toss on the field to go crazy like you’d like him to. Kicking dirt on umpire shoes died with Billy Martin.

  204. Darryl Strawberry says:

    Raped of three runs.

  205. InsaneMetsFan says:

If they lose this game 5-4….Oh man, I don’t know, friggin umps. BLUE BALLS all of’em

  206. Maineiac says:

If they have tvs in the dugout then why can’t the Umps look at them for further review? It only fuels the fire for their crappy calls.

    • InsaneMetsFan says:

I believe that an Ump actually did that once and correctly reversed a call, the MLB reprimanded that Ump for using Replay.

  207. metsfan119 says:

Oh boy, are there going to be some deleted posts by the time this game is over

  208. IamJohn says:

He did not just say that!

  209. gomets6091 says:

man, Willie should have made them go check the foul pole for that scuff mark, like the modern equivalent of the shoe polish incident

  210. Scottie-B New Yawk says:

I really thought we were all going to witness Willie showing enough emotion to fire-up his team and get booted. Instead, one of his coaches gets tossed, and I’m still left with the feeling that Willie is just too shy.

    Instant Replay would be nice.

Home-Run or not – the Mets better end-up winning this game. Cmon.

  211. khmustache says:

    it looked foul to me

  212. metsfan119 says:

    Was that a phucking homer?

  213. boosmakelittlesense says:

well there goes the 2 runs that delgado didn’t get….and there goes all my trust in ollie as a pitcher

  214. ryno says:

Good to see Ollie pitch well with a lead.

  215. WrightsRight says:

    drumrolll….Let. The. Implosion. Begin…..

  216. dykstraw says:

matsui HR looked foul to me

  217. DaN22CaP says:

    thats a foul ball

  218. darkstar73 says:

ugh, way to pick up your team Ollie

  219. adam900 says:

wow they better not lose this game.

  220. metsfan119 says:

Way to step it up Perez

  221. Gina says:

    well that sucks.

  222. Darryl Strawberry says:

Unreal. This better not be a loss. Typical though. Stuff like that has always happened in favor of the Yankees throughout their history. I knew they would come right back and score.

  223. metsftw says:

hey, there’s a suprise, ollie giving runs riiiiiiiight back!

  224. Jefferies 9 says:

Apparently John is a big yankee fan by that HR call

    • metsfan42793 says:

i know really he is like GODZILLA A HOMERUN IN THE BIG APPLE

      • Maineiac says:

The only reason why the Bronx can be called the Big apple is because it’s only baseball team are all fruit!

  225. metsfan42793 says:

    time to put in wagner

  226. metsfan119 says:

Shocked the ump didn’t knock the ball out of Schneiders glove

  227. Darryl Strawberry says:

This game will be tied in no time. I can’t believe the umps missed that call.

  228. NorfolkTides says:

Wow. What a terrible terrible call. I know everyone has already said it, and I dont care if they miss a close play at first, but look at the fan showing the mark on the ball where it hit the f**ing foul pole. What crap. Willie should have been ejected sooner. He should have been furious from the get go. Good that he showed enough emotion to get kicked out though. Good for Manuel too. And way for Delgado to keep his head and get the Ribbie anyways. Now cmon ollie, pull together. Ugh.

  229. InsaneMetsFan says:

Just what we needed Ollie, thanks!

  230. Maineiac says:

Life is totally unfair. It only makes it worse that I am Mets fan.

  231. khmustache says:

plunk a guy hitting 204….cmon perez

  232. metsfan42793 says:

that didnt hit him. that was a foul ball

  233. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    OMG OP!!!!

  234. metsfan119 says:

Mets, don’t lose this game, seriously

  235. nova86 says:

    fair

  236. gomets6091 says:

the umps just gathered and decided that was actually fair

  237. WrightsRight says:

can they play this game under protest…?

  238. NorfolkTides says:

That wasn’t a foul ball by Cabrera, that was a HR!!! …ugh

  239. chew13 says:

Willie should have taken his guys off the field until the proper call was made. It’s not unprecedented.

  240. gomets6091 says:

can we just give him the gold glove now, please

  241. khmustache says:

i’ve got this horrible feeling in my stomach…sometimes i really hate baseball

  242. metsfan42793 says:

does jon miller honestley have to yell safe

  243. darkstar73 says:

    phew

  244. NorfolkTides says:

cmon pop-eye. You cant let a guy steal twice on you like that. Holy “cow” OP survived the inning.

  245. nova86 says:

    belTRON is coming up

  246. IamJohn says:

    Hey Jon,

Will they fix the foul pole and put it in the right spot between innings

  247. WrightsRight says:

just remembered, that’s the second time this year the Mets got screwed with a non-home run call.

  248. metsfan119 says:

By the way, way to paint the bottom of the foul pole black. What the fck is that?

  249. Darryl Strawberry says:

The bench coach should never be making more noise than the manager. Willie needs to grow a pair. He should’ve carried on until he was tossed, especially when he knows the umps bew the call.

    • nova86 says:

hey darryl get back in the studio

    • batsinthepelfrey says:

just another moronic statement…wouldn’t expect anything less strawberry

      • darkstar73 says:

why is getting tossed right there necessary? that’s the question, Willie was arguing the most, it was just Jerry who came in and went nuts for a few seconds to get tossed, and now Jerry gets all the credit.

  250. NorfolkTides says:

I can’t decide who I hate more…Jeter…Giambi…or Joe and John.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

All depends on how you look at it.
You can turn the sound down and you’re done with Morgan and Miller. You can’t avoid the other two guys unless you turn the game all the way off. So at least two of those guys can go away if you don’t mind losing the sound.

      • NorfolkTides says:

Good Call. I’ll put on WFAN. And giambi will be done in a year cause all the juice he used will finally catch up to his aging body. I geuss, as always, I hate jeter the most.

    • cafuq says:

      joe and john

      • NorfolkTides says:

wait wait…how about the umps. Just for today, I’ll hate them more than Jeter.

  251. batsinthepelfrey says:

how do you not ask girardi about the foul ball home run call? god are these guys brutal

  252. Jefferies 9 says:

Wow …. I didn’t know the NL doesn’t have the DH

    Thanks again Jon

  253. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

    F**K ESPN AND THE UMPS!

  254. khmustache says:

good call on talking about the celtics during a mets-yankees game…way to know your audience…lets talk about tom brady next

    • iluvbuckner says:

Annika Soernstam is retiring too. And the Penguins advanced to the Cup Finals.

      Wait…who?

  255. WrightsRight says:

yawn….time for the offense to zzzzzzzz

  256. Darryl Strawberry says:

Why is my statement moronic? Willie should’ve exploded and he didn’t. The whole momentum of the game has changed after that play.

    • darkstar73 says:

willie was going nuts, he came out of the dugout, was yelling the whole time, kept yelling in the dugout, and then Jerry, who must have seen the replay, went nuts for like 2.2 seconds, got tossed.

      • chew13 says:

Willie should have never gone back to the dugout. Period! If there is ever a time to get tossed it was there. Personally I’d stop the game until the umps reconvene. Make them walk out there. IT’S BEEN DONE BEFORE!!

        • darkstar73 says:

make them walk out? in the 4th inning, of a game you’re up in anyway? when was that done before?

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

And then what? The Mets are still winning the game. The call sucks, but you can’t do what you’re suggesting. That’s a good way to be sure nothing goes your way the rest of the game.

    • darkstar73 says:

and what, is it now Willie’s fault that Ollie let up runs as soon as we put runson the board? If willie would have gotten tossed, Ollie wouldn’t have done that? Yeah, keep dreaming.

    • chew13 says:

Dude, your’e statement was dead on. Willie should have done more.

    • batsinthepelfrey says:

its moronic b/c he got out there he made his point, everyone saw him fired up. the call was wrong but it was absolutely not going to change after they had already conferred and called it foul. getting tossed accomplishes nothing. and they kept giving the umpire the business and manuel jumped in when the ump came over to warn them. make a comment that actually adds something instead of negative, pointless comments. i mean i konw that’s your schtick but its a pretty tired act.

  257. iluvbuckner says:

    Dear John,

Stop complaining about the fair line and the fair pole. They’re not next to each other when you look at them from two feet away because of the ANGLE OF THE FENCE. Go back to school.

    Yours truly,
    Mets Fans

    PS – you’re a tool.

  258. metsfan119 says:

That call seriously ruined the game. That’s all I’m going to be thinking about now.

    • WrightsRight says:

I have a very sick feeling that the non-call will cost this team the game. Unless they shove some Ritalin down OP’s throat, he’s going to be thinking about that and a billion other things and the implosion will continue….i’ll keep seeing that missed call and reyes swinging at the first pitch and popping it up w/ the bases loaded….

  259. WrightsRight says:

    Jeez…..i hate all molinas…

  260. EliPorter says:

watching ollie is like watching a soap opera

  261. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

wang wont give up a hit the rest of the nite

  262. dykstraw says:

is there a lead ollie can’t blow? i was literally his biggest fan last year but COME ON YOU BUM. this like glavine all over again.

  263. Darryl Strawberry says:

    Consider this game tied.

  264. EliPorter says:

barry bonds said that!?? barry bonds talks to the media?

  265. PacmanJones says:

This is Oliver Perez’s inning. And that’s not a good thing.

  266. mookie says:

Man, Perez better have some control for the next couple of innings. If he can’t get pumped for this type of game then we shouldn’t waste our time with him next year.

  267. darkstar73 says:

what is Ollie doing? doesn’t he care how he does? stop dropping your delivery down, he sucks when he does that.

  268. jakeha23 says:

american league umps are like jeter….gay

  269. iluvbuckner says:

omg listening to these two is like listening to paint drying.

  270. Jefferies 9 says:

    Curved ???

    Idiot

  271. IamJohn says:

Why is the foul pole directly in line?????

  272. EliPorter says:

that environmentalist comment by joe morgan was as dumb as they get

  273. casey s. says:

joe morgan and john miller make me want to vomit.

    • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

      Gary and Ron please.

Maybe Keith to eat ribs and describe proper hitting mechanics, because outside of that everything he says is stupid.

  274. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

we only need 5 or 6 from ollie

    • PacmanJones says:

Really??!??!?! And tell me why you haven’t been watching the mets bullpen this year?

      • batsinthepelfrey says:

feliciano, smith, sanchez (minus one bad outing) and wagner have been exceptional this year. i’ll take 3 innings from those guys if ollie can get us through 6 with only 2 runs

  275. IamJohn says:

Are these 2 guys the two stupidest people are earth?

  276. PacmanJones says:

What a pitch! Keep your head in this Ollie, one more batter c’mon!!

  277. metsfan119 says:

walk Jeter, seriously, a homer by that fudge packer would do me in

  278. MudvilleNine says:

    should walk Jeter

    • MudvilleNine says:

      Then again…lol

    • Aquadealer says:

You dont put the tieing run on

      • MudvilleNine says:

In the late innings thats true but its only the 5th. I didnt know how good Matsui hits Perez, which if I did, I’d pitch to Jeter

      • PacmanJones says:

Gee, I’m glad we walked Jeter to pitch to a man that has already taken Ollie deep, bringing the go ahead run to the plate. Common sense now fellas.

  279. PacmanJones says:

Right, so Matsui can hit a 3-run HR this time.

  280. Koko says:

I need to be able to close my eyes like a horror movie and just squint at the action.

  281. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

dirty felic and smith are fresh

  282. Jefferies 9 says:

    Atta boy Ollie

  283. darkstar73 says:

well, at least he got out of it, nice job Ollie

  284. PacmanJones says:

Good inning Ollie! Just one more! With that said, Willie BETTER have someone warming in the pen as Ollie starts the inning. First sign of meltdown inning, PULL THE TRIGGER! Will Willie do this? Of course not! He “trusts his guys”

  285. uhhhman says:

did anyone notice something on Perez’s lip when they zoomed in on his face in the fifth inning with Molina on third.

where did the cold sore come from?

    • Maineiac says:

He shared a soda with Jeter and got herpes.

    • PacmanJones says:

C’mon dude, do you really care about a cold sore? Where did it come from? Baseball players can’t get facial imperfections now??!?! CHURCH!!!!

  286. atrain311 says:

We need more runs. Ollie is an implosion away from giving up 4 runs.

  287. mookie says:

ok perez pitched muched better this inning. Come one ollie give us one more inning ( then we can pray to the gods that the bullpen won’t fudge it up).

  288. atrain311 says:

    I love him

  289. nova86 says:

    YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    MVP MVP MVP MVP

  290. PacmanJones says:

    CHURCH!!!

  291. Hernandez_1B says:

    CHURCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  292. WrightsRight says:

Make the power of Christ compel you!!!

  293. batsinthepelfrey says:

    god is church good…MVP

  294. IamJohn says:

    That’s a HIT!!

  295. khmustache says:

    YES!!!

    might’ve been a foul though

  296. darkstar73 says:

no more hits off of Wang huh?

  297. Jova1931 says:

I wonder if they’ll reverse this one.

  298. DaN22CaP says:

    AMEN

  299. mrosey says:

wait, that ball may have gotten lost in the black. are we sure THAT one was a home run?

  300. PacmanJones says:

Church will be starting in RF back in this stadium in a few months.

  301. metsfan119 says:

    KARMA!!

  302. Wondy says:

How did Miller think Jeter’s fly our was gone off the bat, but didn’t know Church’s was???

  303. EliPorter says:

i want some church on sunday jokes

  304. iluvbuckner says:

The bad call…I kinda get the feeling it sounded like when John Candy in “Rookie of the Year” was on the radio during a long fly ball…with his co-announcer go “ITS FAIR” “ITS FOUL” ITS FAIR” “ITS FOUL”

Difference is, they made the right call in that movie.

  305. metsfan42793 says:

what assholes miller and morgan on. church hits a shot to center and they r busy talking bout reggie jackson.

  306. mookie says:

    lastings who?

  307. Jefferies 9 says:

You can’t fault the umpires ….

HE GOT IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME

    • Wondy says:

Oh, you mean the guy who had a straight-line view from about 100 ft away? Nah…….

      • ccmetfan says:

Umpires make many stupid mistakes. Remember there was a Phillie game where the opposing team hit a foul ball that didn’t even touch the foul post and was ruled a hr. Phillies got really screwed

        • mrosey says:

I don’t remember where it was nor do I even remember who it was, but it was last year, we hit a home run, the ball hit a seat on the other side of the wall, ricocheted like 20 feet in the air and the umps some how figured it hit the padded wall

  308. MudvilleNine says:

Ollie’s at 80 pitches. His usual lose it number is 85 pitches. Have to keep a close eye on him and have someone up.

  309. nova86 says:

    damon = doofus

  310. nova86 says:

“the guy next to the pole got it” good explanation for why it was a foul ball…IDIOT

    • atrain311 says:

So by his logic, a homer that hits the upper dec and bounces onto the field should be a live ball, right?

  311. metsfan119 says:

    Okay Ollie, please don’t implode

  312. EliPorter says:

this hank bit is so poorly done. i feel like it was done by a bunch of high school students instead of espn

  313. InsaneMetsFan says:

    God Bless Ryan Church!

  314. metsfan119 says:

Hank Steinbrenner is living proof that you can crossbreed a man and a pig

  315. Jova1931 says:

I think the Yankees are worth more than a Million.

  316. JNGordon says:

Just love Morgan saying it was the foul side of the foul pole. I always thought the entire pole was considered fair territory. Love the explanation of the curving wall and the pole being offset…..Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut….

  317. hi5wright says:

i was content with muting the tv and listen in to howie and hagin until “and kiss it good bye!” Cmon hagin, cant you come up with something new? im getting sick of that call. (but ill take the home run of course)

  318. EliPorter says:

    hahah poor giambi

  319. Koko says:

I have to take a Xanax when Perez pitches. :(

  320. metsfan119 says:

Perez, seriously, enough with hitting the shttiest hitters in the lineup

  321. PacmanJones says:

    GET SOMEONE UP!!!

  322. boosmakelittlesense says:

this is the big inning for OP….make it count…

as i typed that he hit giambi…

ryan church is sooo good right now…gotta believe he comes back to earth, but even if he does come back…20 homers isnt ridiculous for the season…and that’s improvement from last year if he has even close to 43 doubles…plus great defense

    • Jova1931 says:

He’s been a Godsend. Schneider has been hitting great and playing okay defensively.

  323. IamJohn says:

    7th innings = Heilman Time

7 1/3 with the game tied, he comes out!

  324. MudvilleNine says:

Hits him with the 86th pitch

  325. JNGordon says:

Nice move by the Giambino…..I did think you were supposed to make some effort to get out of the way of a pitch though.

  326. Jova1931 says:

    Beautiful

  327. atrain311 says:

    Perfect

  328. boosmakelittlesense says:

im shocked OP had the composure to make that double play…

im also shocked that cano is sooo slow he couldn’t beat that out.

WOW A QUALITY START FOR OP…BREAK OUT THE CHAMPAGNE!!!!!

  329. NorfolkTides says:

Good Job Opie. I didnt mind seeing Giambi plunked, as long as you got out of the inning and you did. He’s been cleaning up his messes all night long. Good stuff.

  330. MudvilleNine says:

Can he get by one more inning?

  331. mookie says:

I love an easy dp. should perez pitch the seventh with the bottom of the order?

    • darkstar73 says:

yes, he should, i think he’s still under 100 and we’ve got a 3 run lead, let him go out there, very short leash though

    • nova86 says:

yes, with joe smith, duaner up

    • NorfolkTides says:

Yeah, he should. You’re going to have someone up sooner or later anyways, so Willie should just keep Ollie on a short leash. I wouldnt nessicarily expect him to make it THROUGH the inning, but Ollie needs to pitch deep into the game for once…

  332. Hernandez_1B says:

As soon as Ollie fielded that ball I blurted out “easy Ollie”……lol. I could see that ball sailing into centerfield…..Thank God it didn’t

  333. darkstar73 says:

that’s exactly what Ollie needed right there, nice

  334. 16oz says:

you have to bring ollie out in the 7th

  335. IamJohn says:

Good Game Perez, they got what they needed, he should be done!

  336. Jova1931 says:

I’d like to see the Mets tack on a few more runs and allow Ollie to get a bit more confident. He usually pitches well with a big lead. So much for the Yankees having superoir pitching to the Mets. Nothing better than seeing Wang getting smacked around, Pettite lose, and the invincible Joe-buh getting scored on.

    • darkstar73 says:

i actually would say the exact opposite of that. Does Ollie really usually pitch better with a big lead? I never really thought that. I’ve found that when Ollie is given a lead, he usually finds a way to lose focus and let it up and put the Mets back into a close game.

  337. PacmanJones says:

Heilman will come in the 7th, put a runner in and be relieved by….

HEILMAN! Who will leave the game 7-5, Yankees.

  338. PacmanJones says:

Meant to Say Ollie starts the 7th, relieved by that nerd Heilman.

    • darkstar73 says:

that’s the insult we’re using now with Heilman? we’re making fun of him because he’s smart/a nerd? When did being smart become a bad thing? And i’m not against ripping into Heilman a bit right now, he deserves it, but c’mon…

      • PacmanJones says:

He’s smart now? I just meant he looks like a nerd, like Willie and his mustasche looks like a porn star. Where do you get off saying Heilman is smart? Smart is not throwing meatballs down the middle to be crushed and NOT learning from your mistakes.

        • darkstar73 says:

Heilman is a smart guy, that has nothing to do with baseball, he’s just intelligent, there is a world outside of baseball you know. I mean, i’m not even sure what your comment means either. Obviously Heilman is not pitching well right now, but he knows how to pitch, he’s been pretty successful for us the pat 2+ years. He sucks now, sure. Either way, he is a smart guy, I thought you were making fun of him for being a nerdy kind of guy. Either way, not sure what’s wrong with being a nerd.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Stephen Hawking is smart, and I guarantee you he isn’t getting anybody out. Not trying to start anything here. Just didn’t see any other Stephen Hawking references tonight and felt like the time was right.

        • darkstar73 says:

look, i saw him call him a nerd and that just seemed like a stupid insult to me, I would figure as a Mets fan he might know Heilman IS actually an intelligent guy and he was somehow holding that against him.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I was responding to him and siding with you. Heilman is a very intelligent guy. It doesn’t mean he’s not going to have problems on the mound. He’s intelligent, and he’s human.

        • batsinthepelfrey says:

i think you are giving too much credit to some guy who uses pacman jones as a screen name

        • darkstar73 says:

sorry alreadymissshea, i misinterpreted what you said, thanks for siding with me, and batsinthepelfrey, you are so right, way too much credit for a guy with a name like that.

    • UncleMuscles says:

      What an A**hole you are

  339. mookie says:

man I hope Willie doesn’t bring out Heilman. If he does, his job is on the line because he’s too stubborn. Can we get any good middle relievers before the trade deadline?

    • MudvilleNine says:

Muniz has been pretty much lights out down at NO

    • atrain311 says:

I feel like we’ve got good middle men, it’s just Heilman has messed that up for us. Take him out of the equation or if he turns it around, our pen is tight.

  340. ccmetfan says:

should be Sanchez with Pedro as back up for 7th, then Smith in the 8th and then Wagner

  341. metsfan119 says:

    Please warm up Smith

  342. atrain311 says:

    good, the pen is ready

  343. boosmakelittlesense says:

feliciano should be up too so many lefties to face….

as much as i love heilman…and yea i do love heilman (why people forget his last two years is beyond me)….he can’t come into this game…

he should take a break like zito did and just sit out for a week or so….call it 15-day mental hygiene list…

  344. PacmanJones says:

NO HEILMAN WARMING! Like I said pre-game, with this lineup and now this bullpen usage, Willie is managing like his job is on the line!!!! WAY TO GO WILLIE!!! ITS ABOUT TIME!!!

  345. boosmakelittlesense says:

middle of mets pen is good, but mets need heilman, don’t make any mistake about that…

  346. Jova1931 says:

The pen sure does look great when pitchers can at least get into the 7th.

  347. boosmakelittlesense says:

come on finish strong ollie…finish strong!

  348. darkstar73 says:

I know Ollie just got an out there, but against any decent hitter, that might be gone (or in any other stadium). You could see Schneider hitting the ground, telling Ollie to get it down, it was a 0-2 count, and what does Ollie do? just kind of flings it up there, middle of the plate, hanging slider.

    • boosmakelittlesense says:

wooot…good pitch…got lucky with that pitch against gonzales and lucky that it was alberto at the plate and not a major leaguer….but still…7 strong….sit down and root for your relievers

  349. khmustache says:

joe morgan is on his own planet

  350. Hernandez_1B says:

    Great Job Ollie!

  351. PacmanJones says:

    OLLIE!!!

  352. adam900 says:

So they have more trouble against the Nationals then the Yankees now?

    • boosmakelittlesense says:

you got to be kidding me….put that in the past, where it actually is…the mets have clearly responded to that debacle over the last two games….just hopes it carries into atlanta/colorado

    • PacmanJones says:

Dude, didn’t you realize this team meeting put their head on their shoulders? lol

  353. mookie says:

Nice pitching ollie. I think he is done. Leave on a good note, for the next start.

  354. ccmetfan says:

Ollie turned it around and pitched his best game of the year so far
    7ip, 2ER

    • PacmanJones says:

so pissed that I benched him in fantasy today, oh well, i’ll take a mets win over fantasy points any day.

      • ccmetfan says:

I got Ollie and Wang on my teams. I dont care about Wang’s stats as long as mets win

  355. Jova1931 says:

Does there always have to be a negative comment? Enjoy the winning, and stop nitpicking. When they play poorly you can criticize. They’ve pitched, hit, and played very well defensively. Save that negativity for the Yankees.

    • apple_outta_da_hat says:

      well said!!!!! well said!!!!! (clap;clap)
      now let’s get this “W”

  356. hi5wright says:

congrads to ollie! only a month and half into the season and you already pitched your first 7th inning outing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
negativity aside, he WAS gr8- now please hold the lead and lets go mets!

  357. metsfan119 says:

If the Mets win this game the big story is going to be Jerry Manuel getting kicked out and Willie not. You watch.

    • boosmakelittlesense says:

no that will be the “little” story that’s made big by people who don’t know the difference between little or big…plus i’d think that would be bigger if the mets lost…if they win…who cares about that OR the delgado homer…other than delgado

      • metsfan119 says:

I just think they’ll say that it was Manuel’s fire and not Willie’s that the team rode. Not saying I say that.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Honestly I think the big story will be the Yankees losing two straight to the Mets, and thus the series, as they continue to go nowhere fast. If you mean the Mets story, I doubt it comes up… It’s gotta be about taking two straight from the Yanks after the team meeting and onto Atlanta.

  358. boosmakelittlesense says:

this is a big inning…tack on right now…tack it right on…

  359. playmaker3128 says:

1 more for ollie? at 102 pitches. I say let him face damon to lead off next inning. If damon gets on, smith for jeter then feliciano. Regardless though maybe you make damon the last batter for perez.

    • PacmanJones says:

Absolutely not. You don’t mess with Perez right now, he just pitched an awesome game, don’t take the chance to mess with his head at all at this point. Need to baby him, this isn’t Johan.

  360. PacmanJones says:

    Insurance runs needed.

  361. metsfan119 says:

Beltran was safe, another gem by the umps

  362. mrosey says:

    Safe?

  363. PacmanJones says:

Who would have thought before the year started that Chien Ming Wang would be intentionally walking Ryan Church to face Moises Alou in the subway series?

  364. boosmakelittlesense says:

close enough…but considering the screw up on delgado’s homer…mets should be getting every bang bang play and every borderline pitch for the rest of the game…

  365. PacmanJones says:

Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! Jerry’s a thug!

  366. PacmanJones says:

WHAT A FIST PUMP BY DAVID WRIGHT!

    • NorfolkTides says:

agreed. Glad to see some emotion from him, even as he keeps it classy.

    • ccmetfan says:

I like that. Mets gotta show emotion and stick it to the opponents

    • boosmakelittlesense says:

haha maybe a joke on joba? who knows…wright seems too politically correct to make that connection

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Funny thing is Yankee fans will say Wright didn’t need to do that, and that it was unprofessional.

By the way, I’ve never really had a reason to post about Joba, but since it was brought up, I think the guy is total B.S.

  367. Koko says:

hey look Church thinks Randolph and Acta are similar and do get in players faces. Unless the senile Morgan is thinking of someone else.

  368. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Shut up, Joe

  369. PacmanJones says:

Gotta love that fist pump, scoring an insurance run, making it a four run game, gotta love the emotion in that spot. David Wright!

  370. Aquadealer says:

His upper body left early but his lower body didnt….priceless

    • Koko says:

Haven’t you heard about the Detachable Wright?

    • boosmakelittlesense says:

HAHAHAHHAHAHH…yea, Joe Morgan’s mouth started but brain didn’t follow

    • darkstar73 says:

hahah, yeah, what was with that? I actually watched that replay closely, like, wait, did he leave early? and then it was obvious he didn’t. Seems as if Joe Morgan isn’t just dumb, he’s blind too.

  371. Jova1931 says:

Very nice. I like the intensity the Mets are showing too. I’d to see this team play with this urgency more consistantly.

  372. mookie says:

man if they protest and call wright out, hell will break loose. I have my trusty pitch fork ready. So you?

  373. Stems says:

OMG Morgan… shoot yourself for that comment…

  374. PacmanJones says:

    Or they’re just not idiots.

  375. hi5wright says:

NICE hustling wright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is anyone liking this team better than a few nights ago-they seem to have been doing EVERYTHING right-pitching, hitting, defense, hustiling, arguing;)
(or is it that the Yankees just stink right now?)

    • boosmakelittlesense says:

welll they have done it against chien ming wang..not like darrell rasner or something…plus it would be one thing if the yankees were getting errors…

as i said earlier….the yankees series right now was JUST what the mets needed to get juiced up for the latter 75% of the season…

    • Jova1931 says:

      Alot of both, alot.

  376. boosmakelittlesense says:

i don’t understand why teams bring in pitchers to walk someone…just do it with the pitcher that’s coming out…unless they care about stats or something…how’s rock and rohlendorf supposed to throw strikes after trying to throw 4 balls?

  377. Jova1931 says:

    Ex-Nats

  378. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

they bought someone to intentionally walk delgado.. that’s possibly one of the stupidest thing i ever saw

  379. darkstar73 says:

yeah! here we go Mets, tack on those runs.

  380. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Church for Prez !!

  381. PacmanJones says:

Bobby Abreu has a good arm? Really? That’s two throws now where he could have easily thrown out a runner at the plate.

  382. NorfolkTides says:

Nice killer instinct, mets. Keep drivin’ em in. (and dont forget about it for the rest of the season!)

  383. khmustache says:

wow!!!! 2 plays in a row to challenge abreu’s arm!

  384. IamJohn says:

    To Me
David Wrights lower body scored right as his lower body left the base, good call Joe

  385. Jefferies 9 says:

Anyone remember the days when nobody ran on Abreu ?

  386. darkstar73 says:

quite the performance by this “ace” in this big game huh? Whatever happened to that 1 ER and 8 IP. Got the IP almost right, but too bad the ER were almost the same as the IP, huh insanemetsfan?

  387. KingWright says:

This team is executing on all cylinders the past two days after that meeting. This seriously better turn this club around.

  388. CaseStreet says:

Can we play the Yanks every day? Nice hitting by the team. Let’s Go Mets!!!

  389. metsfan119 says:

I hope all the Yankee fans who stuck up for Joba are thrilled with Wrights fist pump when he scored this inning

  390. NorfolkTides says:

I love how they show the “great positionoing” of the ump who blew a three-run homerun call earlier int he game. I miss Keith & Co. already…

  391. khmustache says:

yankees fans leaving the game…guess the bandwagon is getting a little lighter

  392. Jova1931 says:

They need to end this game right here. One more big hit.

  393. mookie says:

bring on the pain. Don’t give mercy because none will be given to you.

  394. PacmanJones says:

    EMBARRASS THESE SKANKS!!!!

  395. Jefferies 9 says:

    Go Slappy

  396. cafuq says:

    way to go slappy!!

  397. Jova1931 says:

I guess that’s why Girardi didn’t want to go to the pen. That’s what I’m talking about.

  398. metsfan119 says:

This is great and all, but I STILL want Heilman to have no part of this game.

  399. CaseStreet says:

Even slappy mchappy is getting into the hitting.

  400. dykstraw says:

we’re really piling it on. i feel like we’ve been seeing a different team the past two days.

  401. boosmakelittlesense says:

    wow….gone…great job jose

  402. adam900 says:

    REYES BABY!!!!!!!!!

  403. Jova1931 says:

    HELL YEAH!

  404. GregB says:

Umm, this is actually getting fun…hey, I’m enjoying a Met game!

    I’M ENJOYING A MET GAME!!!!!

  405. MetsFan4Decades says:

Is it Fair NOW guys ?????

  406. KingWright says:

    GUESS WHO’S BACK?

  407. darkstar73 says:

    WOW WOW WOW

  408. WrightsRight says:

    JOSE!!!

  409. Wondy says:

Great camera shot before the HR…only Mets fans left in stands behind Reyes….

  410. CaseStreet says:

Yeah baby. Scary I called the Church home run and this one too. I should play the lotto.

  411. Koko says:

Can the Mets bring in Heilman now??

  412. oklametsfan says:

JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  413. Steve in DC says:

    REYES!!!! CASTILLO!!!! CHURCH!!!!!

  414. gomets6091 says:

what an inning! This is what has been missing all year!

By the way, I am sick of interleague play, but I still do love watching the Mets beat the Yankees!

  415. metsfan119 says:

I would give 100 dollars for Reyes to go out of the dugout and do a curtain call in Yankee Stadium

  416. Wondy says:

    OK, get Heilman up now.

  417. metsfan42793 says:

    as joe miller said ADIOS

  418. mookie says:

I still want them to count the two runs they dook away from delgado. I love how they are screaming lets go mets in yankee stadium.

    • Jova1931 says:

Isn’t it great? A friend told me that at yesterday’s game the Mets fans were chanting “last place Yankees”.

  419. PacmanJones says:

Way to hustle Endy! That gold thong must have helped Steroids to the base in time.

  420. MainStMets says:

we should make citi have the same dimensions as yankee stadium reyes would be 40-40

    • cafuq says:

i think it would be better for reyes with the fences at like 450 ft or more….more triples and inside the park homers

    • MudvilleNine says:

Please, Reyes is probably already salivating over the rightfield homer deck we’ll have.

  421. Boy-yaka-sha !!!

  422. apple_outta_da_hat says:

where the hell have these mets been hiding!!!!!!!
    great friggin inning…

  423. HITorDIE25 says:

Welcome Back METS! Finally excitement. I think playing the yankees is exactly what they needed. Hopefully we are turning the corner!

  424. playmaker3128 says:

You know, its games like these that make me wonder why we can’t be this good on a consistent basis. We beat pettite, we knocked around wang. We beat guys like Smoltz and Hudson on consecutive days. We hit pretty well against arizona. Then we struggle vs lesser pitchers. We have to take this same approach from this weekend and bring it into every game.

The mets have done a very good job this weekend of being patient vs some pretty good pitchers. Great approach.

    • ghobot says:

this is a great point. it really does seem as if something is happening to this team when they play lesser teams, maybe hubris or maybe over aggressiveness, i just dont know. what i can see is that when wright hit that ball to the track in his last AB when going to the dugout, he looked pissed that he missed it.

church has been great. if it wasnt for him, this would be a very different season. these guys better learn to play hard every game, because they are different team when they do.

really nice seeing so many fans still at yankee stadium.

      • gipper82475 says:

They’re so good they get bored. Maybe Delgad was onto something. It is notable how they lower themselves to the competition.

Still, this is a nice one to enjoy. Let’s hope it is a springboard to consistency.

  425. Whats great to see today is that the mets didn’t just get angry towards the umps after the blown call. They kept pouring on the runs, playing with urgency, putting pressure on the yankee defense (Abreu most notably), and kicked some pinstripe ass

    • kris.rocchio says:

We need to carry this over to Atlanta and make a statement to the NL that we are back!

  426. metsfan119 says:

The only thing that would’ve made this game better is if Willie went ape-sh@t instead of Manuel

  427. darkstar73 says:

loved seeing endy hustling on a seemingly meaningless grounder there

  428. Darryl Strawberry says:

We’ve all been waiting for this team to show their true colors. Winning is the cure!

    • batsinthepelfrey says:

trying to get back on the bandwagon darryl? not much to complain about here so head over to a yankees blog and you can continue your negative comments over there b/c the 2008 mets have turned a corner this weekend

  429. jcervone7 says:

Do my eyes decieve me? Or is that Oliver Perez still pitching in the 8th inning?

  430. PacmanJones says:

Gotta love Ollie rolling around on the ground for that ball.

    • kris.rocchio says:

This is the Ollie we need

    • NorfolkTides says:

Was about to say the same thing. He’s quite possibly the goofiest guy I’ve seen play in the bigs. I was at his no-hit attempt in AAA three years ago, and after every innning his leap over the first base line was biger and bigger till he was pretty much long-jumping over it. Whatever works…

  431. apple_outta_da_hat says:

    good hustle

  432. Jova1931 says:

Look how empty the stadium is! lol

  433. nova86 says:

    gammons is sooo senile

    • darkstar73 says:

i can’t wait until you 60+ and you have a brain aneurism, and there are people on a blog making fun of you about it. But wait, you won’t be on TV…what a shame.

      • PacmanJones says:

The people making fun of Gammon’s on this blog tonight has been really depressing. Seriously the man is one year removed from a brain anyuresm. Okay, maybe it is a painful “dick clark new years” moment, but still show some respect. The people getting on Gammons need to move to Philly and cheer injuries. A-holes.

  434. MainStMets says:

OP is going the distance friends!!!

    • nova86 says:

      not

    • Nate W. says:

After needing 37 pitches to get through the first 2 innings, Perez had thrown 65 more through the next 5 IP.

Its nice to see someone elses offense do the rolling over and playing dead for a change, and its wonderful to see Ollie taking advantage of it and making quick work of them.

  435. mookie says:

did you guys see perez dive for that ball. man this like a whole diffrent team. I hope they have this type of passion for the rest of the year.

  436. Koko says:

Willie stopped listening to the Guru Jacket. He’s letting a pitcher pitch with count over 100. Nice.

  437. MainStMets says:

    boooo leave him in lol

  438. Steve in DC says:

Ollie just tipped his cap in Yankee Stadium!!

  439. Jova1931 says:

Excellent, take him out on a very positive note.

  440. khmustache says:

are there any yankees fans there?

    • Wondy says:

No. Even before the Reyes HR, it was about 10:1 Mets fans in the shot of the stands behind him.

  441. darkstar73 says:

i like that, let Ollie pitch to the lefties, take him out there, no need to hurt his confidence at all after a nice outing like that with Jeter coming up. Good job all around. Nice outing Ollie.

  442. dykstraw says:

    wow.

ollie perez just departed to an ovation. in yankee stadium.

now i actually feel a little better.

  443. gomets6091 says:

Perez with the hat tip in Yankee Stadium, Priceless. What a game by the Ollie tonight.

  444. Darryl Strawberry says:

I was hoping Reyes did a curtain call there too.

  445. apple_outta_da_hat says:

are they really playin this song??? hahahahaha

  446. MudvilleNine says:

Do you think Wags is satisfied with Ollies preformance tonight?

    • apple_outta_da_hat says:

      prolly not….. i’ll take it… but he’s thinkin consistency
      just a hunch

  447. metsfan119 says:

It’ll be interesting to see if they throw at Wright

  448. cafuq says:

i do not like jeter, but i have to give him props for racing down to first 9 runs down in the 8th.

  449. PacmanJones says:

JETER IS A FULLBACK; REYES IS A TAILBACK!! BOTH CAN DANCE!!

  450. Jeter is great. Even as a met fan/ Yankee hater I admitt this

  451. khmustache says:

i’m guessing that cal ripken jr couldn’t dance joe

  452. Nate W. says:

Tonight makes three consecutive starts of 7 2/3 IP by the Mets starters. They took a while to get into an 8th inning, and now they are making a regular habit of it.

with tomorrow being an off day, and the rainout Friday, and these deep starts, the bullpen has just about been on vacation for 4-5 days.

    • PacmanJones says:

      No Heilman = Winning ballgames.

    • Jova1931 says:

Well, they are going to need the pen for that double header Tuesday.

      • Nate W. says:

yea, I dont like starting Vargas in the double header when Pelfrey is pitching the way he has and is on turn… unless the Mets have plans to bring back Vargas on 3 days rest in Colorado so they dont need to call up another starter.

btw, everyone enjoy the off day tomorrow, its going to be a long three weeks of baseball.

  453. jectalo says:

shut the eff up joe morgan go effin kill yourself

  454. metsfan119 says:

I’m not touching the shortstop dancing racial minefield

  455. PacmanJones says:

All shortstops are smooth and it’s such a difficult position to play.

    • MainStMets says:

i was really thinking that when they mentioned SS dancing, they were going to show Reyes doin the handshakes/ dance at the top step of the dugout

  456. I have the TV on mute and I know Joe Morgan is saying something stupid

  457. ccmetfan says:

Anyone think Ollie is playing for his contract now. He’s so far outperformed Johan twice in back to back games. I think it’s great.

    • PacmanJones says:

Let’s please end all Oliver/Johan comparisons now before they begin.

    • boosmakelittlesense says:

ollie was playing for his contract the day he signed on with boras….sad to say but this is ollie’s last year with the mets….no way the mets should go 4 years and 12 mil per for him…considering his potential to break down….and that’s what he would definitely command due to his agent…and that contract will be a death pill for whoever takes it ….

if i were the mets I would offer 2 guaranteed with 3 option years like the fausto carmona contract….if they say no….sorry that’s our best….can’t go 4 guaranteed for ollie…just cant…maine, however, give him 5 years 60…i don’t care just do it.

      • Don Logan says:

I say at least wait til the year’s over before giving Maine that kind of deal. He did have a 5.00+ era the 2nd half last season. Lets see how he continues to develop this season before assessing him and giving him that kind of money.

  458. boosmakelittlesense says:

its almost a blessing that delgado didn’t hit a homerun….cause it would have been 6-0….and the mets could have shut it down on offense afterwards…

however, the mets played with a chip on their shoulder afterwards, evidenced by wright’s fist pump….i say sorry delgado, but that energized the mets offense to not let up….

weird how that stuff works out.

    • m00kie says:

good call .. it’s crazy what kind of things can be a turning point, and maybe that moment .. everyone united vs. the umps, the yanks, even yankee stadium could coalesce into a big run here… maybe I’m dreaming, but we’ll see how they respond heading into turner field!

  459. MainStMets says:

ive got 4 yankee fan friends at the game, they said in their section in let center it was them and mets fans after the reyes HR

nice catch by melky to rob church of extra bases

  460. darkstar73 says:

wow, another shot by church, is he feeling it right now, but wow, nice play by melkey

  461. big shea says:

“Yunel Escobar looks like he plays shortstop to music…”

how does these things pop into his head!

  462. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Billy Wagners outburst = turning point?

  463. jakeha23 says:

nice….shoenweis…heilman would be to risky with this small of a lead

  464. PacmanJones says:

Any more a-holes on this blog wanna make fun of Gammons? Take your cheap shots.

    • big shea says:

not me…he’s a huge pearl jam fan so he’s okay in my book.

    • nova86 says:

shut up and go make it rain

      • PacmanJones says:

Hey, you’re the one that referred to a 60 year old man who had a brain anyerusm last year as “senile.” You have no decency.

        • batsinthepelfrey says:

and you have pac man jones as a screen name making stupid comments all game (and season actually)…those in glass houses

      • big shea says:

ha! good one. it is kind of amusing that someone with the blog moniker “PacmanJones” is telling people to act with class.

      • darkstar73 says:

either your you’re too dumb too not realize what a brain aneurism is, or you’re just dumb enough to make fun of a baseball writing legend after he had a brain aneurism. Either way, I wish you the worst in life.

    • chew13 says:

Gammons is great. Nice guy too (i’ve met him once)

  465. PacmanJones says:

Anybody notice Posada’s gut there? I thought he was in better shape, guess not.

  466. metsfan119 says:

Nice Schoe, you kick the Yanks a$$ AND you hit Giambi

  467. Jova1931 says:

The Yankees will retaliate next time, watch.

  468. chew13 says:

I know Scho hasnt pitched in a while but this would have been a good spot to bring in Heilman. Nice to see Yankee Stadium overtaken by Mets Fans.

  469. Jova1931 says:

Sounds like there are some fights going on in the stands.

  470. metsfan119 says:

I can only imagine the fights breaking out in the stands right now

  471. MetsFan4Decades says:

1 more out and on to SNY Post game……

  472. MetsFan4Decades says:

Way to get it done !! Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap
    Bring on the Braves.

  473. PacmanJones says:

Shoenweiss starts the year getting Booed out of Shea and a few weeks later he gets standing ovations in Yankee Stadium. Love baseball. Night!

  474. MainStMets says:

“mets fans gave turned this into shea stadium north”

    hit our music, NY NY!!!!!!!

  475. khmustache says:

    done and done

    shea stadium north

    love it

    g’night everybody

  476. Jova1931 says:

Very solid game by the Mets.

  477. PacmanJones says:

Anyone notice they were playing new york new york after the final out? Thought they only did that for wins? Made an exception for the subway series?

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

They always play a version of NY, NY.

Sometimes Frank, sometimes Liza Minelli. I think there was a time when Frank was for wins and Liza was for losses, but I could be wrong. Now they just play one or the other regardless of who wins.

    • MainStMets says:

they play it after every game, win, lose or draw

    • big shea says:

no they play it after every game. it used to be that they played the sinatra version after yankee wins and the liza minella version after losses, but now I think its always old blue eyes.

      • gipper82475 says:

Your knowledge of Skankee stadium traditions is disturbing and alarming. Quick, tell us the name of the long time Organ player at Shea, the bridge verse of “Meet the Mets,” and the name of the director of Mets broadcasts.

  478. nova86 says:

    shoe like a cat

  479. Ryn05 says:

    Great game!

  480. WrightsRight says:

Great, great, game…soooo enjoyed this game.

  481. cafuq says:

now that is how you beat a last place team

  482. m00kie says:

nice series .. I know the yanks suck but this is a big confidence & solidarity boost for the team .. everyone played a part and came through here or there. After a big media blowout and the whole team meeting thing, winning both was necessary to change the narrative in the papers. Well done..

  483. AlreadyMissShea says:

Anyone who has a view of the Empire State Building, go take a look at our colors! Orange and Blue for the entire city to see!

    • CaseStreet says:

      nice

      • groverland1 says:

So–where are all the people calling for willie to be fired? Should Willie be fired now, after sweeping the yankees and with the mets one game out of first?? Or does 30 hours (2 games) make a difference?
My point is, it is a long season–lots of ups and downs, no need to panic after every couple of losses.

        • metsfan119 says:

Beating the Yankees twice is nice. But the Mets always show random examples of how good they can be, what bothers me about Willie is that he can’t seem to maintain the focus that the Mets showed this game throughout a prolonged period.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Are you gonna do that after every Mets win?
People who wanted him fired probably still do.
People who didn’t probably still don’t.
Probably gonna be that way for the rest of Willie’s career as Mets manager. Just get used to it.

        • gomets6091 says:

well, I feel like if they win 95 games and the World Series the Willie haters will melt away, and if they lost 80 games and miss the playoffs the Willie supporters will go away.

The key for them is consistency. As metfan said, they have shown flashes of the team we all expect them to be, now they need to keep it up.

        • dykstraw says:

definitely a nice couple of wins, but honestly, he’s not off the hook because his team got amped up for the subway series after a litany of team meetings.

this team has shown that it will show up for the big games in the national spotlight. it’s the midweek day games against nobodies that half the team takes off literally and the other half psychologically.

we need to see this every day, or at least almost every day. the people calling for willie’s head aren’t doing it because of a few losses here or there, or even just because of september, but because of nearly a season’s worth of .500 baseball.

it sure is nice to be a mets fan tonight. and in some previous seasons, taking a mini series in the bronx would have been the highlight of the season. but that was then and this is now. if the mets head down to atlanta and drop 3 of 4, we’re right back where we were thursday evening.

        • groverland1 says:

No, I bet most people would not want Willie fired now. Untill there is a 3 game losing streak, then they will call for willies job. It is a long season and fans should not get so worked up over a few games.

        • dykstraw says:

or you could read what i just posted

        • groverland1 says:

my post came seconds after yours. I obviously did not read it, unless I was able to write my last post in 4 seconds.

        • groverland1 says:

Don’t you think it is insane to talk about firing a manager who, at the time, was two games out of first place in the middle of may??

        • dykstraw says:

          i apologize, then

        • dykstraw says:

apparently i don’t think so. the “first place” proximity arguments went out the window on 9/30/2007.

        • KinersKornerman says:

          Cold, but true.

        • gipper82475 says:

As many have said, the best case scenario is winnibg ith Willie. But those of us who have called for his head have seen the maddening inconsistency and fear these two games, nice as they were, may well be folloed upo by a 4-6 stretch.

After The Collapse, we need to see consistency. Until then, we want Willie gone.

That said, let;s all hope the Wagner incident, the meeting, heck getting embarrassed by the darn Nats all have sparked a turn around that will last.

  484. rivertech says:

The Mets have 4 against the Bravos…….these games are nothing. We have to prove out metal against the Braves. Willie is still on the hot seat. I like the momentum though. Lets take 3 of 4 from the Braves and beat up on the Rockies than I will be ok. As of now, this is nothing.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

I’ll be at Thursday night’s game. Santana vs. Hudson, Should be a doozie.

  485. Steve in DC says:

I know the Empire State Building is orange n’ blue, but I wonder what color it would’ve been had they split the 2-game series….

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

If they split is was going to stay orange and blue on the east and west sides, and blue and white on the north and south sides.

      • Steve in DC says:

Awesome. I’m glad it’s Mets on all sides!

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Actually I can see a little bit of the south side from my window, and it looks like they haven’t changed the white yet. They better do it soon because the lights go out at midnight. I guess it’s not really THAT big of a deal, but the winner is supposed to get their colors up all around, and the winner ain’t the Yanks.

  486. AlreadyMissShea says:

Well, there’s Francessa on his Channel 4 show making the big story tonight Jerry Manuel getting thrown out and not Willie. I guess they are going to try to make this a story after all.

    • dykstraw says:

i don’t think it was a big deal, but it certainly looked like juicy story fodder and it didn’t look good for willie. jerry sort of showed him up, and i don’t think he meant to.

    • CitizenSnips says:

He can’t even talk about the game?

  487. EliPorter says:

i want a split with the bravos

  488. metaje says:

Willie just said on post game he doesnt want to get thrown out…hes the leader of this team and needs to be out there and thats what jerry manuel is for…

omg…im sick to my stomach,,,,somebody better tell Bobby Cox that….you know the guy who won 11 division titles in a row…hes some piece of work Willie

    • chew13 says:

I’m only giving him a pass because he says he didnt see the play. Can’t be adamant when you are not sure.

      • metaje says:

hes full of it because 2 seconds later he said the ump blew the call…bottom line is he didnt protect alou…he did argue tonight…this team needs him to get tossed…just do it willie

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Yea, screw you Willie for wanting to be out there with his team and lead them throughout the game. What an ignorant A-hole. It would be much better if he threw a temper tantrum and spent the rest of the game taking a nap in the locker room.

    • dykstraw says:

      that’s really dumb.

gotta kinda give him credit, he sticks to his guns. he has to know he would look better getting tossed, but he doesn’t care.

still, his stubbornness will be the end of him.

  489. chew13 says:

So I’m watching Willie’s postgame and he says he didnt see the play on the delgado HR. So I can understand him not goin ape $#!T. I would still take issue with the umps taking all of three seconds to overturn the call. Girardi didnt even protest the overturned on Jeter’s word!? Give me a break. One of these days something like this is gonna happen during a WS. I’m for instant replay in regards to HR’s and Foul Balls and fan interference.

    • egnirc says:

Apparently now players can now argue calls with umpires by pulling them aside and not get tossed right out.

A player on any of the other 29 teams would probably get sent to the showers right away, but not the Yankees or Jeter.

There must be an addendum section to the rule book that just concerns calls made in Yankee games.

  490. MaineIsKing says:

Wow I think some people like the theatrics of an argument with the ump more than the actual game……Go watch UFC…..

    • MaineIsKing says:

that said, I’m watching Gladiator, and I’d love to see Maximus fight tonights home plate umpire with all the tigers popping up….

      • chew13 says:

Would have liked to see Willie fight him…lol He let the Ump tell him “Shut up”. Those are fightin words. Good thing Jerry has his back. JErry would have taken his glasses off and kicked his a$$.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Ump looks old. I’ll put $10 on either Willie or Jer-ry, Jer-ry, Jer-ry to win.

    • metaje says:

its not that…he needs to get tossed…its good for the players, especially young ones to see

      • MaineIsKing says:

i think manuel getting tossed serves the same purpose…..I don’t recall Torre getting tossed, or Francona very much…..I think ultimately tonight was the most life-filled i’ve seen our dugout, and that is enough for me, especially given the 11-2 victory….

  491. InsaneMetsFan says:

    Devil’s Advocate here…

Let’s not get all pumped up yet, they’ve done this to us before (remember the flop after they won the D-Backs series). Let’s take it one step at a time, great wins, but let me see them take 9 out of 10 or 14 of 17 before I go all ga-ga. Let’s seem them get some distant away from the .500 mark.

    LET’S GO METS!!!!

  495. playmaker3128 says:

After today were only 3 games in the loss column behind the NL’s best arizona. Just to put some things into perspective. Alot of the teams in the NL have played 3-4 more games than us. It was never as bad as it seemed, even to begin this series. Although losing 3 of 4 to the nationals did hurt.

Lets see though if we can carry this momentum over to atlanta. The way i see it, i want to at least win 2. Would be really nice to get the first one of the double header though against glavine. Continue with great momentum and take some pressure off of us the rest of the series, especially with vargas and pelfrey throwing the next two.

  496. I’m waiting for my friend to get back homee he went to the game tonitee.

I had first dibs on churchie like the first week of the season lol :]

incredible performance they put on tonight, honestly. i hate to say it had 2006 written all over it, but it totally did.

    delgado was robbed.
i wanted morgan and miller to STFU all game long. wtf.
well deserved off day and off to atlanta on tuesday (glavinee the rusty nail should be an interesting pitching match up to see how he fares against his old team.)
