Binghamton’s 23-year old 3B/1B Dan Murphy is profiled over at SNY.tv. Murphy has scorched AA Eastern League pitching for a .329 average this season as part of a hard hitting middle of the order. They spoke to B-Met manager Mako Oliveras, who had this to say about his second leading hitter:
“He has improved his fielding and I think he’s going to hit well… He’s a very talented young player. He knows how to play the game and has a lot of energy. Whoever taught him how to play the game did a good job.”

New Orleans (AAA): 12-3 loss to Oklahoma
RHP Ruddy Lugo was hit hard, allowing seven runs on eight hits (including two HR) and four walks in just three innings pitched. RHP Joselo Diaz did not fare much better, letting up five runs on four hits and two walks in two innings.
DH Raul Casanova finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run, while 2B Argenis Reyes went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Binghamton (AA): 9-0 win over Connecticut
LHP Sal Aguilar was great in his second spot start, firing 6 2/3 shutout innings. He allowed just three hits, walked one, and struck out seven.
1B Mike Carp made a triumphant return to the B-Met lineup, going 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and one driven in. 3B Danny Murphy went 4-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. OF Caleb Stewart was 3-for-5 with a double and a run. LF Nick Evans finished 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.
St. Lucie (A+): 15-2 loss to Dunedin
RHP Nick Carr was absolutely lit up, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits and four walks in just 2 2/3 innings. RHP Elvys Quezada was then rocked for five runs (four earned) on four hits and a walk in just one inning pitched. 2B J.R. Voyles moved to the mound in the blowout, allowing three runs on three hits, including a three run homer.
DH Salvador Paniagua went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, while OF BJ Hubbert went 2-for-3 as well.
Savannah (A-): 7-5 loss to Greenville
RHP Elvin Ramirez had his first rough outing in a while, surrendering four runs on six hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings. RHP Brant Rustich allowed a run on two hits in his inning of work.
1B Jose Jimenez was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. C Francisco Pena went 1-for-4 with a run, and DH Jordan Abruzzo finished 2-for-5 with a double and a run.

St. Lucie is on pace to have the worst first half in FSL History.
8-36 now.
It really seems like our farm pitchers are getting hammered every night (on the field, that is — and maybe before the game, given the results.) This is Not Good. Not worth fretting over, but worth remembering when it comes time to take stock of what the current regime has done with drafting and player development.
Dan Murphy = NYM future first baseman?? it would be cool if most if our infield are home-grown
I think Carp gets a look next year with Murphy in the wings.
another thing is, who says we need to trade young talent? perhaps we could use some of these guys as bench players.
These guys are working on LF too, it would not be a shock to see one of them in LF to wait time for Fmart.
Nick Evans in the mix too (Age 22, .913 ops). Not sure who of the three is the most major league ready or the best defensively.
Does anyone know the update on F-Mart?
out 3 weeks with ankle injury i think
Update on F-Mart:
He’s out for at least 3 weeks with the strained hamstring. He’s currently in St. Lucie for rehab. Honestly, I wouldn’t expect him back before mid-end June.
These minor league updates are great…but to be nit-picking, let’s try and get the details right. Aguilar is a RHP, not a LHP. This was his 3rd start and he’ll probably be a mainstay in the rotation in Binghamton as Ruckle’s injury is worse than first thought. Aguilar was nothing short of terrific fantastic last night haha.
Where did Aguilar come from?
Aguilar was signed by the Mets in 2005. He spent last season with Binghamton as well.
It is very nice to see the Murphy/Evans/Carp trio doing so well. maybe there’s a little more promise than we thought.
They haven’t really made much noise in the media who cover the minors, so I’m a tad wary, but those numbers look pretty darn good for now.
yea i would like them to promote from within. The offense numbers are great..from what i hear its the glove thats the set back.
Evans has sort of flown under the radar…but he has been very impressive thus far. He’s come thru in the clutch multiple times here at Binghamton. He’s the guy I want at the plate at a crucial point in the game. His defense at first isn’t too bad either.
If Carp can play LF, and Murphy or Wright can move to 1B, we could have a nice lineup in 2008-2009.
“Elvys Quezada” that’s just wrong. E-L-V-I-S. There’s no “Y” in Elvis.
Why would you want Wright to move to 1st base for a minor leaguer that can’t field? At best you are looking at 2 out of the 3 panning out anyway. Then throwing Fmart in there too hopefully you can at least fill LF and 1B. Those are our biggest needs, Wright is fine at 3b.
2 third-basemen for 1 position is all. Wright is a good defensive 3B’man, but let’s be honest; his throws are sometimes not the greatest.
FMart needs to play a full season without being on the DL before I pencil him i.
Carp is not a solution in LF. In a few games in the outfield, he has been less than impressive. You cannot move Wright obviously. That’s not even an option. Murphy’s defensive skills are less than average. He would be better suited to make the move to first.
It does seem that we have a strong offensive group at Binghamton at the moment with Evans, Carp and Murphy. Caleb Stewart and Fmart also seem to be holding their own nicely. But pitching is an issue for sure. Parnell and Niese are underwhelming and they are the best of the starters in the system at the moment I think. Rustich and Kunz are gonna be good but likely relievers with the hope that one becomes the closer of the future.
With 3 first rounders coming, I say go Starting Pitching with all three and pay over slot if lucky enough to have a few gems fall down due to signability issues
