  1. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

The one matchup that cannot be allowed today, Heilman vs. Kelly Johnson.

    • RPsJacket says:

Ain’t that the truth. They have to get more consistency from the pen, some of this is on Randolph but Peterson and Omar need to shoulder some of the responsibility. I think they have the arms, this is another area that I think will improve from the first 40 games.

I like the lineup as well, lets get the opener. They have to take pitches and get the pitch count up. I posted earlier Galvine has been less effective against lefties so far this year, he is not the same pitcher (as if we didn’t know). Delgado has also hit him well.

      • nrmax88 says:

If you think they have the arms, why the hell should Omar take any responsibility? How many bullpens would you feel comfortable completely swapping with ours? I bet that number is smaller then 5.And yes, Omar should take responsibility for the fact that our best reliever over the last 3 years is in a slump serving up HR balls. Omar, why didnt you foresee this?

    • SoDakMets says:

At this point of the season, anyone versus Heilman can’t be allowed.

  2. CaseStreet says:

    Love the lineup.

  3. metsfan119 says:

Mets, I don’t care if you lose 100-1 in game 2, please kick this clown’s a$$ in game 1. You know what to do, find out early if his 2 foot outside pitch is going to be called a strike (which in Atlanta is a 50/50 proposition) and if not, take until he lobs his slop over the plate.

    • Koko says:

That is what I’m talking about. Take everything out on Glavine. Pretend he slept with your wife/girlfriend/dog, etc. . . And punish him!!

(I usually don’t get vindictive, but I am today).

  4. sheaheykid says:

Glavine has awful, awful stuff. That said, there were plenty of games the past couple of years where he managed to get by somehow. Let’s hope today is not one of those games! Glavine has horrible stuff lets pound it into the gap and right at Frenchheart’s (oxymoron if I’ve ever seen one) stupid smiling face in right field!

    • Gregg says:

How Glavine performs on any given day depends on how wide the umpire’s strike zone in. If he has to throw ‘real’ strikes he gets shelled.

  5. Koko says:

And I’ll have it on, on MLB.TV definitely with the sound off!

  6. ravi3 says:

ESPN Game Cast, or MLB Gameday?

  7. mookie says:

LIke Orel Hershiser, I thought Tom Glavine was nothing more than a double agent. Go get em boys and show no mercy.

  8. Biscuit says:

With a lefty in game 1 and righty in game 2, shouldn’t you work to your team’s strengths and play Castro vs. the lefty and Schneider vs. the righty?

  9. kjmcc0729 says:

You guys love this lineup? I would also if there weren’t a second game to be played. Why not mix in the reserves and regulars for each game and try to win them both? schneider won’t play both games so why not start him against the righthander tonight and Castro against the lefthander? how about giving Tatis a start against the lefthander and delgado in the 2nd game. I am tired of .500 ball. Try to win both of them!

  10. dcmetsfan says:

Is the game delayed? I’m at work, so I am reliant on either Gameday on ESPN or CBS Sportline’s game center, and nothign is happening.

    • ravi3 says:

How does CBS Sportsline compare to MLB Gameday and ESPN Gamecast?

      • dcmetsfan says:

It’s not as good. I just like the layout of the MLB and ESPN gamcasts better. The other two have better graphics. Unfortunately at work I can’t use MLB, which is my favorite of the three.

    • sheaheykid says:

      yeah whats up with that

  11. Ryan Synagogue says:

Hmm according to that lineup card, Ryan Schneider is catching for us today.

  12. SoDakMets says:

Maybe the Mets should have made up special road alternate unis. The colors could have been white/black/and aqua for todays game

  13. WozzyBear says:

Seriously? One-pitch and bunt from Jose?

Would like to see him take some pitches and make Glavine work…

  14. NY Cuban says:

as my first baseball related post of the day…can we please knock Glavine out after 1/3rd of an inning? Maybe he can be devastated to lose for Atlanta.

    • RPsJacket says:

I like your baseball posts, keep it up!

He is clearly done, even if he pitches decent they should be in the pen early which can impact game 2.

Big game for Johnny Maine, save that pen.

  15. metsfan119 says:

    HAHAHAHAHA!!!! CASTILLO!!!!!!!

  16. ravi3 says:

    HOMER BY CASTILLLLLLLO!

  17. Gasface77 says:

    HAHA!!! SLAPPPPPPPYYYY!

  18. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

    home run? castillo?

  19. Ryan Synagogue says:

    LOUIE!!!

  20. dcmetsfan says:

Holy crap, little Louis hits one out! And I don’t even have him in my fantasy starting lineup!

  21. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

    thats f’in cool

  22. Mookie 1986 says:

Glavine might wanna think about retiring right about… now!

  23. phoola says:

Is that a typo on Gamecast or did Castillo just knock one out???!!?

    • RPsJacket says:

      wind must be blowin’ out.

      • gipper82475 says:

Slappy. Insane. Gary was saying how Castillo owns Glavine. Even had a homer off him. I was thinking, “Wow, Slappy actually can hit a homer?”

Sure enough, Slappy’s ownership of Glavine continues.

  24. zen says:

    willie!

  25. Ryan Synagogue says:

    Slappy McHomerton

  26. EliPorter says:

that was a 330 foot pop up! luis !!!

  27. backinbusiness says:

I love it. Only 6 runs to go with this one out.

  28. sheaheykid says:

YES! if all luis faced was soft tossing lefties he’d be absolutely Ruthian.

  29. toomanyuniforms says:

Guess we now know how Rollins hit Glavine so well. . ..

  30. cheapseats says:

How come you can’t ever listen to the mets game on wfan.com, they always black it out with old Mike and the Mad Dog shows??

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Cause you gotta pay for MLB Gameday Audio. It’s all about the money.

    • SoDakMets says:

MLB has broadcast rights if you are out of the coverage area.

I have MLB.com’s Gameday audio. 15 bucks for the whole season.

    • dcmetsfan says:

Stupid MLB rules. You have to subscribe to mlb.com in order to listen to radio broadcasts.

    • cheapseats says:

That sucks b/c at work all i have is the internet, I’ll have to use metsblog, keep with the updates!

      • gipper82475 says:

Ummm, mlb audio IS on the internet, Is really cheap. $15 for the whole season. Can choose which radio feed, too (home or away).

  31. Ryan Synagogue says:

Are you devastated now you piece of crap, you just gave up the least likely home run in baseball

  32. SoDakMets says:

    Somebody check that bat!

  33. metsfan119 says:

keep taking, this guy doesn’t throw strikes

  34. metsfan119 says:

damn, if it weren’t for that gift by Reyes this guy would really be screwed

  35. AlreadyMissShea says:

Please don’t let this *#&$ off the hook here.

  36. markthemets says:

ya gotta love it Glavine at his BEST this is what we endured when he was a Met!!!

  37. dcmetsfan says:

BTW, is anyone watching the game. The pitches that are being called sttrikes look way out of the zone according to Gamecast.

    • gipper82475 says:

Nah, if anything the ump has a small /accurate zone. Gary and Keith and Ronnie talking about how pre-Questec, Glavine would get many of the balls called strikes.

  38. metsfan119 says:

    keep taking…

  39. NY Cuban says:

LETS GO METS!!! I hate this sonuvabitch…

  40. miker94 says:

I HATE the Braves announcers! They are so awful and such homers

    • RPsJacket says:

      lol, you mean Ron Darling?

      j/k

    • cheapseats says:

      Whats a “homer”?

I hear Michael Kay get accused of being one all the time

      • miker94 says:

kay isn’t as bad, but a homer is a guy who is so blatantly FOR the home team that it’s awful. It is just biased opinions, and comments that do nothing but downgrade the other team and boost your team. it’s unfair and the gary, ron and keith never do it. which is why they are the BEST in baseball. kay just sucks in general, especially his contrived homerun call. just awful

        • gipper82475 says:

Why do you have Braves’ announcers? Extra Innings has SNY for this game.

As for homers, the braves guys aren;t as bad as the Nats. Any long fly by the Nats, and thgeir play by play guy literally yells, “get up, get up, get outta here, YES! Woo hoo! a Nats homer!” Unprofessional hack.

        • miker94 says:

you are exactly right about the nats guys, just terrible. but i’m watching on mlb.tv. so it’s the braves guys. they suck

  41. Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

I think Yahoo Sports is down guys. Anyone know where I can get another feed of the game? It says “L. Castillo homered to deep left”. Malfunction?

  42. AlreadyMissShea says:

    1-0 Mets
    Bases loaded, 1 out
    LET’S GO ALOU!

  43. VictorZambrananberg says:

Someone posted a couple games back (I believe it was during the reds series) a website where mlb games were streamed for free. Anyone remember that?

    • fatsfox says:

myp2p.eu but you need to install some software called tvants and for some reason the stream doesnt seem to be working for me right now. Might be because I am trying to watch it on a windows tablet, Mac is not supported by this site.

  44. dykstraw says:

THIS GAME IS GIVING ME FLASHBACKS

  45. metsfan119 says:

    what the hell happened?

  46. EliPorter says:

that was a rope- tough luck, alou

  47. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

    c’mon moshe

  48. markthemets says:

Comeone Tommy pay us back with a 7 run inning too!!!!

  49. Koko says:

    Aww damn. :(

  50. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

one run would be highly disappointing.

  51. ravi3 says:

Shcist…Don’t try and pull him Alou!!!

  52. metsfan119 says:

come on Delgado, you want out of my doghouse, take this son of a bitch deep

  53. NY Cuban says:

    c’mon Delgado…knock him out!

  54. EliPorter says:

man… alou and delgado hit the ball hard. those both could have been doubles

  55. RPsJacket says:

The old Delgado hit him to a the tune of .500

  56. ravi3 says:

ugh…one run was a bit disappointing there. At least they made Glavine work.

  57. toomanyuniforms says:

Durn. Got to cash in on those opportunities.

  58. VictorZambrananberg says:

i feel like every game the mets get bases loaded and can’t get a run home

  59. Koko says:

Two ropes, 1 long pop up, two singles. Only 1 run from the pop up.

  60. Arsenal13 says:

    that sucks

  61. dykstraw says:

manny acta would have had glavine knocked out of this game

  62. NY Cuban says:

Damn it, you can’t let him off the hook like that…

    • RPsJacket says:

They must have the least sac flys of any team in the league, gotta look that up.

Glavine will be lucky to go 4 though, lets stay on him.

  63. markthemets says:

atlantasnumberonemetsfan moshe cant get it done!! Nebach

  64. ravi3 says:

Of course at the same time, the offense has struggled the first time thru the lineup lately, only to come alive the 2nd and 3rd time thru…so let see what happens.

    JOHNNY MAINE!

  65. metsfan119 says:

    god Glavine sucks ass

  66. sheaheykid says:

damn… that really blows, coulda been a big inning… lets go maine!

  67. twassel says:

Missed opportunity, but a good start. 26 pitches already.

  68. kendychavez says:

what a frustrating squander. if they don’t rock him today i’ll be so angry

  69. EliPorter says:

delgado really took his time getting to that pop up

  70. Koko says:

    Castillo’s hurt. . .

  71. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

    and it begins.

  72. EliPorter says:

    escobar pulled a reyes there!

  73. dykstraw says:

    huge boo boo by escobar

    • ravi3 says:

arg! Can you guys describe to those of us not watching/listening?

      • dykstraw says:

escobar tried to advance to third on a routine grounder to reyes, jose had him dead to wrights at third

      • Koko says:

Escobar hit a double. Next batter hit a grounder to Reyes. Escobar ran for some reason and Reyes went to Wright to get Escobar out at 3rd. Batter safe at 1st.

  74. zen says:

    terrible play escobar. fire cox.

  75. cousinrk says:

Look they hit the ball hard, its bad luck. What can you do? I’d be more upset if they popped up or struck out. You gonna blast Alou for ripping a ball to Chipper? Come on

  76. kandiman says:

Can anyone watching the game tell us if Sandy should have sent wright on that church single? I am just watching on Gameday. So far this year I have been frustrated with Sandy’s unwillingness to take a chance with sending a runner on a close play. Especially with our troubles hitting with RISP so far.

  77. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Can someone please post with some sort of detail as to whats going on? For some of us this is our only source of info.

    • gipper82475 says:

      Metsblog is your only source?

Well, you are obviously online, so your choices include: MLB.tv, MLB audio, MLB Gamecast, ESPN gamecast, CBS Sportsline Gamecast, etc etc.

  78. VictorZambrananberg says:

No one knows the website where they stream mlb games for free??

    • kandiman says:

I don’t believe there is such a website.

    • gipper82475 says:

      You can, it’s illegal though.

      • VictorZambrananberg says:

well im ok with that do you remember the website?

        • SoDakMets says:

Or you could just pay for it. 15 bucks for MLB isn’t bad. I am sure your bank would give you a good interest rate on a loan if it is going to break ya.

        • metinDC23 says:

          myp2p.eu

You have to download tv ants first and hope your connection is good enough. I think tv ants sucks and it never works for me but I know some people who use it.

        • Ludacrispat says:

          myp2p.eu

        • gipper82475 says:

I agree with SoDak….I mean, it’s not like MLB.tv or MLB audio, or even the Extra inning package are all that expensive. Just pony up. It’s an Intellectual Property issue.

  79. ravi3 says:

    STRIKE HIM OUTTT!

  80. dykstraw says:

    kotsay scores on tex single…1-1

  81. NY Cuban says:

    finish him, johnny!

  82. EliPorter says:

how many wins would mets fans be content with this series? i just want a split

    • NY Cuban says:

I’ll take a split, but you need to win the Rockies Series.

I’ll take 4-3 over the next 7. Thats 6-3 on the trip.

    • dykstraw says:

would be happy with 3 wins but somewhat satisfied with a split

we drop 3 and we are back on the willie vigil

    • ravi3 says:

Well I think a split would be the most reasonable desired outcome, but I’d love to take 3 of 4

    • cheapseats says:

3-4 for the series would be nice, however i think historically DH are usually split so a split of the series is more likely

    • kandiman says:

Split would be good with our troubles in that ballpark. I would however like to see 5 out of 7 on this roadtrip.

    • RPsJacket says:

      I want 3/4.

The sky would not be falling if they split, although it may seem like it. They need to have a winning trip though in my opinion.

    • metsfan119 says:

anything less than 3 and we’re back where we started from with the inconsistent play

  83. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

damn it tex…can’t you wait until next year when you won’t be in atl anymore?

    • NY Cuban says:

yeah, so we can hear how he is the second coming of Gehrig in the BX.

      • Koko says:

Don’t rule out the Mets. They potentially have $42 million coming off the books after this season (Delgado, Pedro, Alou, El Duque, and someone else I think). Plus the new stadium revenue.

I’d love to have him on the Mets. Switch hitting 1B with a great glove.

  84. gipper82475 says:

Uh oh, Willie just shown doing nothing in dugout during Tex’s at bat. Bill Webb really IS a Klansman.

    • Metdamage says:

Willie said nothing about SNY being racist but continue on and get it out of your system.

      • gipper82475 says:

He said race plays an issue in the crtiiques of him and also blamed SNY. You are correct that he did not explicitly connect the two. One can argue whther he implicitly connected the two. I certainly gleaned that, But, even if you say he meant them as two separate excuses, both are equally absurd.

Or, do you really think it is Bill Webb’s fault?

  85. miker94 says:

just the look on “larry’s” face makes me sick

  86. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

    better than in atl….

  87. ravi3 says:

    F’ING MCCANN…JUST STRIKE OUT ALREADY

  88. dykstraw says:

mccann pops to alou, inning over

  89. metsfan119 says:

just keep up the strategy, take pitches

  90. miker94 says:

just when i start to think i hate the sillies more than the braves, i get brought right back in and face reality. i can’t think of anything else in this world that I despise more than the braves. i mean, it’s actual hatred. even watching a florida state game, when they start doing that damn tomahawk chop it makes my skin crawl. which is why i hate fl. state too. man we have to beat these guys.

    • metsfan119 says:

Both teams have wifebeaters and I have respect for neither fanbase. It’s pretty much even.

  91. MetsFan4Decades says:

Fairly new to this Blog. Love you guys and your comments.
Can someone tell me is there any other way to see the latest comments being posted other than just keep hitting Refresh?

    • dykstraw says:

welcome, and not that i know of

    • cheapseats says:

Yeah, if someone has a better way please tell me, cause it s a pain to refresh and look back for the new comments

      • Koko says:

If you are using firefox and download an extension called tabmixplus, you can set the browser to reload at whatever interval you want.

        • Koko says:

Check that, it doesn’t work with tabmixplus, but you just had the extension – reloadevery – you’d be fine.

  92. MetsFan4Decades says:

    O.K. – thanks anyway.

  93. dykstraw says:

schneider flies to kotsay, 1 out

    • dykstraw says:

was hit pretty hard. we are stinging balls against glavine.

      • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

That’s great, but they need to find holes. This is the thing with Glavine. He gives up lots of hard hit balls throughout his career but somehow always limits the damage. This is why Pujols made his famous “he wasn’t good at all” comment. Nobody knows how he does it with his stuff.

  94. ravi3 says:

Despite the run, Maine was having a great inning before McCann came up..He was only at 12 pitches before that 10 pitch AB. Hoping that Johnny Maine can keep up that pace.

  95. metsfan119 says:

I’m telling you, Glavine is going to cruise now.

  96. dykstraw says:

maine dribbles to kelly johnson, 2 away

  97. dykstraw says:

reyes take BORDERLINE strike 3 inside, inning over

  98. kendychavez says:

if they don’t put up a crooked number against glavine next inning… i am just gonna snap.

  99. dcmetsfan says:

Again, I am not watching the game but am using Gamecast, but those pitches seem to be way out of the strike zone. if Glavine is given a liberal strike zone, then he’s a lot tougher to beat.

  100. ravi3 says:

So on Gameday, every called strike from Glavine shows up as being way off the plate. How does it look on TV?

    • gipper82475 says:

No. As mentioned above, gary, keith and ronnie mentioned how Glav would get many of the ball calls as strikes in pre-Questec days. That he needs Eric Gregg back as a home plate ump.

  101. MetsFan4Decades says:

HAHAHA – Sit down. strike 3.

  102. dykstraw says:

frenchie failed to check his swing, K, 1 away

  103. gipper82475 says:

Gary talking about Willie’s SNY framing me comments.

Gary sounds more sad, like for a mentally ill relative than anything else.

    • dykstraw says:

ron darling literally just called willie “wrong” over SNY comments

    • gipper82475 says:

Mild-mannered Ronnie: “Willie is wrong.” “Some of our best work is showing Willie and his staff educating the young players…He ought to spend his time being worried about his team”

Keith, in stunned voice, “Never in my 17 years playing pro ball have I head a manager say something like that.”

      • gipper82475 says:

On the whole Willie saying his race comments were “tongue-in-cheek, both Gary and Ronnie befuddled by that excuse. Trying to give Willie benefit of doubt that he meant something other than “just kidding” like “taken out of context” or something…because “tongue in cheek comments about race would be very odd.”

        • zen says:

can’t you talk about this in thread dedicated to this and allow us to enjoy the game.

        • NY Cuban says:

Well, I can’t hear the broadcast, so I’m thankful someone is keeping us up to date on what SNY is saying…

        • gipper82475 says:

zen, The commentary by the SNY guys is occuring in-game. It certainly seems pertinent. Pertinent enough for SNY, the best baseball broiadcast in the country, to take several half innings to discuss on air which seems to me makes it pertinent to our discussion.

And many people can’t see the game during the day.

        • zen says:

the two of you fill every thread with anti-willie comments. it’s tiresome.

        • gipper82475 says:

Where above did we make anti-Willie comments?

          WHERE?

We were quoting newsworthy comments made by GARY COHEN, KEITH HERNANDEZ, and RON DARLING over the biggest news of the day in Metsland, which directly affects them and SNY.

For people that don;t have the SNY feed or can’t see the game at work. We were thanked for it.

I realize any questioning of your sainted leader Willie is verboten in zen-land, but there is no way that the SNY guys’ take on the recent controversy is of no interest to many readers of this blog. Especially the many who cannot see a day game.

        • NY Cuban says:

This was my first Willie post in this thread…so relax zen.

        • dykstraw says:

watch out willie, SNY is gonna start focusing on you typing away on metsblog instead of patting asses.

        • zen says:

he’s obviously close to being fired. move on.

        • gipper82475 says:

What does that have to do with relating to those hwo can’t see the game or have the Braves feed on MLB.tv what the SNY guys were saying about the controversy about SNY?

You have yet to say what is wrong with us relating those facts to the blog’s readers.

  104. ravi3 says:

    Let’s Go Maine…quick inning.

  105. VenturaHighway says:

Maine’s fastball had wicked movement there…goodbye Kelly Johnson.

  106. ravi3 says:

Maine is getting in some loong AB’s…10 pitches to McCann, 9 to Blanco…no good.

  107. EliPorter says:

come on, maine. finish off batters with 2 strikes

    • ravi3 says:

Its really just two batters that have killed in pitch count. 19 pitches to 2 batters, 24 to the other 7 thus far

    • nrmax88 says:

Perez, Santana, Maine, all have had that problem. They get to 0-2 and 1-2 and then cant finish anybody. This is what gets their freaking pitch count up so high that is like a national holiday when one of our guys goes into the 7th inning.

  108. blains2000 says:

Is it wrong of me to wish Maine would just bean Glavine here?

  109. nrmax88 says:

Hmmm, another Met pitcher on pace for 100 pitches in the 5th inning. Awesome.

  110. metsfan119 says:

You could have a drinking game off of the breaks that the Braves are getting

  111. MaineIsKing says:

    Tom Glavine’s extended strike zone is not cute, its just fkcing b u l l s h i t

  112. dykstraw says:

glavine grounds to maine, inning over

  113. EliPorter says:

do you know what billy wagner does in his spare time?

  114. appleinahat says:

    how did blanco get t o 2nd?

  115. metsfan119 says:

Thank god for Castillo, you know he’ll take pitches

  116. ravi3 says:

Alright boys..they were hitting the ball hard the first time thru the lineup…now lets start cashing in those good swings.

  117. almar1965 says:

Ugh. 45 pitches thru 2 innings for Maine. Not good. They are approaching maine the same way the Mets bare,…taking a lot of pitches. He needs a couple of quick innings.

    • ravi3 says:

Its not even that though…He just wasn’t able to finish off two hitters – Blanco and McCann, who saw 19 pitches between two of them. If they had modest ab’s, Maine is much closer to the 30 pitch mark, where he needs to be.

  118. metsfan119 says:

yup, of course, Glavine lucks out in the first inning and now he dominates. happens every time

  119. EliPorter says:

looks like glavines cruising with his extended strike zone

  120. Horseman says:

Is Glavine throwing curveballs??? I thought he got rid of that pitch when he joined the mets.

  121. Koko says:

Damn you. . . Punish him no more. :(

  122. VelvetFoot says:

    Wow, that was quick.

    • almar1965 says:

      Are you sh*tting me?

      6 pitches and they done?

What the hell was that? They must have had their heads up their asses. In no way shape or form should they have let that piece of garbage Glavine get off scott free like that. Bad habits again!

      geez

  123. miker94 says:

gee great inning, way to make glavine work

  124. WozzyBear says:

5 pitches total to retire Castillo, Wright and Beltran….

Not gonna cut it fellas! Make him work!

  125. metsfan119 says:

The ONLY reason Glavine ever succeeds is that hitter become impatient. That’s it, assuming the strike zone is called accurately, if hitters took pitches and waited for soft tosses over the middle of the plate he would never win a game.

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

You would think that the players would know this right?

      • metsfan119 says:

His pitches must look very tempting

      • almar1965 says:

Well it seemed like the mets knew this the first inning and approached it perfectly. Then someone must have reminded them they were the Mets.

  126. metsfan119 says:

I hate Glavine so much I’m actually getting indigestion

  127. almar1965 says:

    Are you sh*tting me?

    6 pitches and they done?

What the hell was that? They must have had their heads up their asses. In no way shape or form should they have let that piece of garbage Glavine get off scott free like that. Bad habits again!

    geez!

  128. Biscuit says:

Maine MIGHT get through 4 innings at this rate….haha

  129. nrmax88 says:

Wow, look at that! A nice 7 pitch at bat and counting from Maine to start an inning. I wonder what it would be like to have pitchers who can finish batters that have 2 strikes.

  130. metsfan119 says:

Come on Maine, of all games to come back down to earth.

    • nrmax88 says:

He isnt coming back down to earth. He really hasnt been good all year, despite the numbers, outside of the LA game. He has battled through in games like this and kept the team in it, but the whole season has been like this, and I would hardly call this coming back to earth. Why are you so stupid?

  131. stickguy says:

LOoks like they let Glavine settle in when they had him on the ropes.

COmbine that with Maine at 45 pitches in 2 innings!, and this could be an early BP day. Not shaping up to be pretty, especially with a 2nd game.

ALthough with the cataclysm happening due to Castillo hitting a HR, it may not matter!

  132. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

Can’t finish them off…somewhat annoying I must say….He won’t give up more than 2 runs, but it might be in 5 innings.

    • nrmax88 says:

It is annoying, I agree, but I think when all is said and done he will get us 6 innings with less then 2 runs. Which is what he has done all year when he only actually pitched very well one time.

  133. EliPorter says:

maine is really really inefficient right now

  134. zen says:

braves look terrible on the bases today.

  135. MetsFan4Decades says:

Tags himself out – hahahaha !!

  136. dykstraw says:

    schneider caught escobar stealing

  137. EliPorter says:

alou looks like an antelope in left field

  138. stickguy says:

Almost guaranteed that you are seeing HEilman today. ALong with everyone else.

Oh, the Braves announcer just dissed the MEts. Said on the ball up the middle, that Johnson would have been going to field it, and Castillo never moved.

Jeez, I thought only Met fans cold rag on Castillo!

  139. miker94 says:

woo hoo, they just switched over to sny on mlb.tv. this is awesome!

  140. backinbusiness says:

Sweet! My mlb.tv just transferred from the ATL broadcast to ours!

  141. therealsince86 says:

I don’t know if the gods did this or what but my Mlbtv just switced to SNY. No more Homer the homer announcer. Yippie.

  142. metsfan119 says:

I hate Tex, the guy seems to pad his stats against the Mets

  143. metsfan119 says:

Does Maine have an out pitch?

  144. EliPorter says:

2 outs, nobody on and they get a run in. bases loaded, 1 out, and we get nothing. typical

  145. almar1965 says:

It seems to me that that Maine is pitching scared, trying to nibble instead of going after them, or is his location just off today?

    • therealsince86 says:

According to the guys, he is leaving his changeup up.

      • almar1965 says:

Then he needs to stop using it. LOL!

Seriously though, his chanegup is what seems to get him in trouble this year.

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

He hasn’t pitched in 7 days, so he’s probably rusty.

    • metsfan119 says:

I’d like to say I’m shocked, but seriously, is anyone in the least bit surprised by how this game is turning out?

  146. stickguy says:

Wow, they just showed Chipper and Delgado laughing together. As if you needed another reason to want him gone!

Wait a minute, now I am seeing the SNY feed on mlb.tv. earlier it was the Braves feed. Wonder what happended (although there was a bit of a gap a little bit ago).

Maine may not make 4 at this point. He needs to suck it up, keep them off the board and go at least 5.

    • therealsince86 says:

That happens in every single game you watch not just the Mets games. Product of FA I guess.

  147. miker94 says:

Tex has a bad case of “FNS” = Flared Nostril Syndrome
Francouer has a bad case of “BTS” = Buck Tooth Syndrome (only when he is batting though)
Chipper has a bad case of “CDBS” = Complete Dousch Bag Syndrome

  148. stickguy says:

This has all the earmarks of a game 1 blow out. Which of course will use up the pen. Not good when you have Pelfrey in game 2!

  149. WrightsRight says:

These guys are well-disciplined hitting machine. Patient. Disciplined. They’re like stormtroopers, robots. It’s why they beat the hell out of Glavine when he pitched vs. them, and it’s why the Mets can’t seem to get it done vs. Glavine now.

    • almar1965 says:

Well let’s see if they wake up and realize that the patient approach worked for them from Saturday thru the first inning of todays game, before they fall into their old Mets habits.

  150. adam900 says:

How is maine doing so far? I’m missing the game.

  151. ravi3 says:

Ok well could have been worse. Though giving up a run, Maine did improve his pitch count slightly….If you follow the benchmark of 15 pitches/inning, he was15 over after the 2nd, but only 10 over after the 3rd. Settle down, and lets start hitting already.

  152. MeesesGlokmah says:

    Darn they switched back

  153. miker94 says:

crap, back to the braves guys, damn

  154. ravi3 says:

Are the Braves guys commenting on Glavine’s wide strike zone?

  155. almar1965 says:

Here we go,…Mets bats fall asleep against crappy pitcher.

  156. WrightsRight says:

It just boggles the mind how Glavine can commit the equivalent of pitching suicide last September, killing himself and his team, and then turn the gun on the Mets when he faces them the very next season.

Glavine looked like Andy Hawkins in his years with the Mets but the Mets will do their part to make him look like vintage Glavine today….

  157. MaineIsKing says:

dude its just ridiculous to watch this guy pitch….he never throws a strike….

  158. Ryan Synagogue says:

Great job guys. Here you have the man that gave away your season last year. You have a chance to make him pay, and we get this.

    • therealsince86 says:

Can you save that for when he is actually done pitching. We all know that Glavine is capable of stinking at a momments notice.

  159. EliPorter says:

man, glavine is cruising. MAINE, we need a 1-2-3!

  160. Michael Scott says:

Glavine must enjoy home cookin’ , his belly is big.

  161. ravi3 says:

ugh….so much for carrying forward the momentum.

  162. almar1965 says:

They approached him perfectly in the first inning. WTF happened since then? Ugh.

    • WrightsRight says:

The Mets realized they were the Mets – impatient, impestuous, not so swift on the uptake, no advances scouts,…..

  163. Biscuit says:

    Fire Willie

  164. MeesesGlokmah says:

I still have faith in Maine.

  165. IronMan says:

had him on the ropes bases loaded and mets did nothing … better wake up soon or this weekend was for nothing

  166. EliPorter says:

    maine, just end the misery

  167. Horseman says:

Does Maine even have a strikeout yet???

  168. NegativeFan says:

And here’s why so many of us just plain dislike this team. They’re letting Mr. 7ER in .1IP crap all over them. This is a game we’re DYING to see them pound, and they’re blowing it.

    AGAIN.

And a loss here basically nullifies this weekend.

Again, I can’t care a whit about 1 or even 2 wins in a row. Show you can win 5,6,7 in a row then get back to me.

    Enough with this mediocre stuff.

  169. EliPorter says:

dont tell me delgado isnt a leader. maine, if you want to be elite, pitch well against the braves- it doesnt matter how you pitch against the nats and marlins

    • ametsphan4ever says:

how is it that these guys dont take glavine opposite field all the time instead of pulling him?

  170. metsfan119 says:

I wouldd like to say I’m shocked, but seriously, is anyone in the least bit surprised by how this game is turning out?

  171. WrightsRight says:

If Kelly Johnson played in 162 games vs. the Mets over the course of a 15 year career he would hit 820 HR, 1,673 2Bs and have a career average of .370…..

I hate all of these rednecks…in fact, i think Omar should spend some more time in Georgia (and Texas, for that matter) because they clearly grow smart, disciplined hitters on trees down there…

    • blains2000 says:

But if they were on the Mets who would they do this against?

    • metsfan119 says:

only against the Mets, these losers will come back down to earth when they play everyone else. That’s what’s so frustrating

  172. metsfanmurph says:

Did these guys not watch Glavine pitch the last few years??? In the first inning they have the correct approach and take pitches but since they are swinging early in the count. Doesn’t make much sense.

  173. Ludacrispat says:

an absolutely pathetic job my maine thus far. watching glavine do this to us is just killing me.

  174. blains2000 says:

Of all the games to suck. And both lousy games against the braves. Ugh!

  175. Biscuit says:

Maine, I love ya…..but you sh!t the bed today. Thanks a lot.

  176. EliPorter says:

blanco… you cant be serious! maine, get the frickin job done.

  177. IamJohn says:

Delgado??? He was over matched and over powered last inning by Glavine!! He sucks!!!!!!!!!!

    • NYMBosco says:

Willie once again does not have his team up for a game after winning two against the yankees. Typical…..

      • dykstraw says:

well this time he actively ran his team off the tracks with the distraction he caused by running his mouth in the press.

  178. HoJoWright says:

c’mon on Maine. let’s go. This WFAN announcer sounds more like a Braves announcer than Mets. I miss the old crew from last year

    • irish_eagle says:

Howie is still there. Wayne Hagin has replaced Tom McCarthy who took a job with Philadelphia. Hagin’s not that bad. He has his moments.

  179. metsfan119 says:

    4-1

  180. ametsphan4ever says:

the braves are the best at getting 2 out rbis. I cant stand that team but I wish the mets played a little more like them

  181. WrightsRight says:

Have the Mets ever seen Glavine pitch before?

Oh yeah…they have. Maybe they were trying to memorize their dance moves instead of observing how every other team in the NL over the past 5 years destroyed this guy with relative ease.

  182. EliPorter says:

if only the mets could do this… and the worst part is that this inning isnt over

  183. HoJoWright says:

why the hell did maine put that ball where glavine could easily lay it down? throw up and in on him

  184. NegativeFan says:

    F**king mediocre sc**bags.

  185. ametsphan4ever says:

I feel like putting my fist through the tv

  186. EliPorter says:

MAINE, do you want to pitch to kotsay or jones? throw strikes!!

  187. ametsphan4ever says:

I bet I would make better contact than these guys.

  188. Ludacrispat says:

    braves have scored:

-with a man on second and two out

-with two out and nobody on base

-with the 7-8-9 hitters due up

    the mets have scored:

    -on a luis castillo homerun

    braves wasted opportunities:

    ???

    mets wasted opportunities:

-bases loaded 1 out in the first

-this entire game thus far, including being incredibly inpatient against glavine

  189. IamJohn says:

90 pitches for maine so far

  190. ravi3 says:

Ugh can’t deal with this. If I’m going to procrastinate at work, I’d prefer to do it for something worthwhile.

  191. miker94 says:

i hate to say this, and i’m not being negative, just realistic, but this game is over. you can count on that. again, i don’t mean to be negative but it’s just the trend that the mets have shown all season, and most of last season. get down early to a good team and that’s just all. sucks, but it’s true. maybe they can prove me wrong, i sure hope so!

  192. metsfan119 says:

anyone who either swings at a first pitch or gets struck out by Glavine in this game should be fined

    • NYMBosco says:

What the heck is our hitting coach hojo preaching to our hitters? And what about the esteemed jacket? He obviously knows glavine’s vulnerabilities…unbeliveable it’s like the worst coached team all around Fire willie’s whole crew except for Jerry manual.

  193. metsfanmurph says:

The Braves hitters except Francouer have had a gameplan when they go up to the plate. I forgot that teams actually do that.

    • WrightsRight says:

Franceouer is the exception to the Atlanta Hitting Gods rule. Boy can hit but he lacks discipline. Should be on the Mets.

  194. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

    Again could have been worse…..

  195. Horseman says:

    Mets = .500 team

    • fatsfox says:

Wow, you think of that original and thought provoking comment yourself? Oh thats right it gets posted 30 times whenever the Mets are losing.

  196. jay15 says:

Glavine has been blowing a ton of leads this year. We still have a shot at this one

    • NegativeFan says:

No we don’t…..this team very rarely picks itself off the deck.

    • blains2000 says:

Unfortunately the biggest deficit erased by the Mets in a win so far this year is 2 runs. :-(

  197. RPsJacket says:

Hey, plenty of baseball left here.

  198. frischer50 says:

Not sure who just said it, but Wayne Hagen, the new radio guy, is awful. He clearly loves the Braves. And not like I expect him to be Pro-Mets ala Sterling with the Yanks, but jeez, try and sound a little like a home-team announcer. He seems like a person just visiting, stopping by to call a game, with no real connection to what team he is calling. Maybe that’s why he has bounced around so much, no one can connect with him. Give me Howie by himself, it works for Vin Scully.

    • ryno says:

I like when Howie and Ed Coleman are in the booth together at the same time. Unfortunately we haven’t had the pairing nearly enough over the past few years.

  199. ToastyJoe says:

So how many pitches will it take for Glavine to get through this inning? 4?

  200. IamJohn says:

Brave pen sticks, we have a shot!

  201. HoJoWright says:

plenty of time…LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!! pick it up

  202. MDBNYMETS says:

Does anyone else not enjoy watching the Mets right now. I cannot understand how so many times the Mets can have no luck on hard hit balls.

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Thats what happens when it’s not meant to be.

    • ravi3 says:

Eric at Always Amazin’ did a fantastic study on the BABIP of Met batters, and compared them to the expected BABIP (which is based on line drive rates). All players (except one..I think Schneider) are underperforming the eBABIP by a pretty good margin

      • MDBNYMETS says:

Yeah, I saw that …. Couldn’t believe how lucky the Marlins players have been.

  203. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

holy crap… are the braves paying the umps?? the strike zone for glavine is ridiculous!!!

  204. metsfan119 says:

COME ON METS!!! YOU’RE FACING FKING TOM GLAVINE!!!!!!

  205. Ludacrispat says:

i loved schneider’s plate discipline against the yankees, but he swung at two ball 4’s and took and obvious strike 3.

  206. EliPorter says:

thats a horrible call. when glavine gets that outside corner, hes tough to stop

  207. EliPorter says:

    THAT IS NOT A STRIKE!

  208. IamJohn says:

Does the ball have to be over the plate for it to be a strike or is 8 inches outside OKay?

  209. metsfan119 says:

This is why I took nothing from the Yankees series. Losing this game against this shtty pitcher negates everything.

  210. WrightsRight says:

Mets: where hall of famers (besides piazza) go to die…and then they leave and are re-born again to come back and haunt the mets.

  211. metsfanmurph says:

I work nights so I unfortunately have to listen to Hagin pretty often and he is awful. I actually miss Tom McCarthy who was pretty bad himself. When he calls an out of the ordinary play the listener has no idea what happened.

    • gipper82475 says:

Exactly, it takes him an extra minute to explain what just happened. He’s the only weak link in the Mets broadcatsing team, both TV and radio.

    • frischer50 says:

thing that bothers me about Wayne is that you can’t tell what happens.. I mean, a long fly ball that is headed out of hte park sounds the same as a lazy grounder to 2nd.

and when he talks about Mets history, like them never having a no-hitter but it’s coming soon (which he just did today) I want to tell him to shut up, he’s not one of us..

  212. therealsince86 says:

Come on how does the pitcher not even take pitches?

  213. ToastyJoe says:

Honestly, it almost feels like the Mets are throwing this game at this point. “Ah, we’re down a few runs. Time to shut it down.” Pathetic.

  214. metsfan119 says:

    good job mets

  215. EliPorter says:

is this is the implosion inning for maine?

  216. ryno says:

Someone please tell the Mets it isn’t 1993.

    What a joke.

  217. metsfan119 says:

14 batters in a row, stellar job, keep up the good work

  218. Ludacrispat says:

14 in a row? is this some kind of a joke? this is the most hittable pitcher in the league by far (other than heilman of course)

  219. metsfanmurph says:

Well it’s glad to see we took that momentum from the Yankee series

  220. ToastyJoe says:

Well, at least they’re having good at bats. Oh wait. Well, at least they’re working Glavine’s pitch count. Oh wait.

  221. Biscuit says:

What do you guys expect? They are playing 18 innings today….don’t wanna exert too much energy in any one inning. Keep it even keel – the Willie Way…..

    • dykstraw says:

and glavine is out of the game after 82 pitches and 17 straight outs?

at least he didn’t grow a pair after he left town.

  222. RPsJacket says:

They’re down by 2 runs, don’t give up.

Maine needs to hold them here.

  223. Ludacrispat says:

for the mets it seems like 2 runs is an eternity when they scored 18 in two games this weekend

lets go maine. shut them down this inning and let the offense explode off of glavine

  224. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    finish this inning maine!!!

  225. metsfan119 says:

I swear to god, the Braves could take any cracker scrub from the bayou, put him in the lineup, and they’d hit .290

    • WrightsRight says:

Gods of Hitting…Hitting Gods. They should write a sequel to Ted William’s book on hitting.

  226. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Glavine gets traded to Mets and gets killed when facing the Braves, essentially helping the Braves out.

Glavine loses game 162 of 2007, helping the Phillies out.

Glavine goes back to Braves and kills the Mets in 2008, again helping the Braves out.

  227. metsfanmurph says:

How is that not a strike?

  228. metsfan119 says:

    leadoff walk, nice

  229. WrightsRight says:

Unreal…actually, all-too-real, that Glavine can’t have a game like this last September. Vintage. But again, Glavine is a finesse pitcher and the Mets don’t do well against finesse pitchers. Plus, they’ve never seen Glavin pitch before and don’t know what he throws.

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

The Braves pitcher tonight is a finesse pitcher who the Mets have never faced…

  230. metsfan119 says:

annnndddd another hit from moose face, shocking

  231. MetsFan4Decades says:

Karma not going their way again…..

  232. Ludacrispat says:

maine- are you serious with that walk? and now a chip base hit and we’re screwed for the inning.

stop putting the leadoff men on! pathetic outing by maine.

  233. Ryan Synagogue says:

I see the strike zone changes from inning to inning and back again for glavine. screw Georgia

  234. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

all right cut the cord…he just doesnt have it today

  235. EliPorter says:

2 steps forward, 1 step back- 1 step forward, 3 steps back; maine, you should be embarrassed

    • KFS says:

7 days since his last start, you know this is going to happen just like the one at the beginning of the season. If anyone is to blame, it’s Willie for holding back Santana for a rained out game…but I don’t want to be a racist so I’m going to blame the weatherman. Oh wait, the weatherman predicted 90% of rain for Friday.

  236. metsfanmurph says:

I guess SNY is racist because they showed Willie taking the ball from Maine

  237. ToastyJoe says:

Who’s coming in? Why not just bring in Heilman and make it 6-1 in one swing. Doesn’t really matter, we’re not scoring again today.

  238. EliPorter says:

maine gets guys in 0-2 holes and somehow they end up working the count to 3-2.

  239. koosman36 says:

Could someone who’s able to watch this on TV tell me who’s warming up in the Mets’ bullpen?

  240. MeesesGlokmah says:

Doesn’t matter what happens, he will still be my favorite pitcher. Today just wasn’t his day.

  241. metsfan119 says:

Mets fans gotta stop blaming the umps, the umps are fine, it’s the Mets who suck

  242. NegativeFan says:

And this team really has to wonder why they get booed?

Certain games you gotta come through.

    This was one of them.

    What do we get?

    EPIC FAIL.

    F**king medicore scrubs

    • frischer50 says:

dude, I’m as bummed as you and the rest of the fans, but the game isn’t even in the 5th yet.. I mean, we are down 4-1.. 3 runs is not that much.. they can come back

      not saying they will

but holy sh*t.. the attitude from fans lately is unreal

  243. SoDakMets says:

The reason that the Mets are struggling can be tracked to one person. Howard Johnson. He just doesn’t seem to give his hitters a chance to succeed. It is almost like he doesn’t have a plan.

I love the guy, but he is a horrible hitting coach.

  244. mrose says:

so, everyone, this must be willie fault right? That John Maine just didn’t have it today…Totally Willie’s fault

  245. frischer50 says:

Okay, so Maine didnt have it it today.. it happens, guys has been solid for 8 straight starts.. he’s allowed to have a clunker from time to time

now it’s on to his teammates to pick him up.. get some hits and runs against Old Man Glavine

    • sincekindergarten says:

Exactly. What’s done is done. It can still come out alright . . .

  246. metsfan119 says:

Just don’t show Willie in the dugout, we wouldn’t want to agitate the delicate flower.

  247. Ludacrispat says:

oh boy, let johnson hit another grandslam whydontya

  248. WrightsRight says:

Obviously the Yankee series was just a tease, but the story from this game was written long ago. Did anyone honestly think this team had the discipline and plate savvy to know Glavine around? The Top of the 1st was clearly either luck or a brief tinge of brains, because Glavine is the type of pitcher this team regularly loses to.

  249. metsfanmurph says:

They keep talking about the Braves hitters having a gameplan. When is the last time Met hitters have had a collective gameplan?

  250. ToastyJoe says:

No freaking way Kelly Johnson doesn’t get on base here. No freaking way.

  251. metsfan119 says:

Great, now we get to watch the banjo kid from deliverance hit a grand slam

  252. Santanaman says:

    Bases loaded….it’s gametime

  253. RPsJacket says:

    C’mon, need a DP

  254. WrightsRight says:

oh jeez, intentionally walked frenchie to get to the mets killer…

  255. metsfan119 says:

    game over

  256. EliPorter says:

    god….

  257. sincekindergarten says:

SF. One scores, but the fire didn’t get too big.

  258. RPsJacket says:

    darn leadoff walks

  259. metsfanmurph says:

Pretty good job by the Big Show if he gets Blanco

  260. metsfan119 says:

3 runs, might as well be 10

  261. markthemets says:

    same S*** different year BLAH!!!!!!!!!!

  262. ToastyJoe says:

The final score of this game will be:

    (A) 4-1
    (B) 6-1
    (C) 7-1
    (D) 10-1

    I’ll go with C.

  263. RPsJacket says:

    Good job by Schoenweiss.

    Alright, lets get a few.

  264. WrightsRight says:

nice job by show….as if it matters.

  265. metsfanmurph says:

It’s amazing Kelly Johnson is probably the worst 2B in baseball in his other 143 games

    • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

yea, but that’s pretty much par for the course…allow me to give you some names:

ronny cedeno, ronnie belliard, carlos ruiz, greg dobbs, jesus flores, felipe lopez, christian guzman, ryan theriot, freddy sanchez.

all these guys burn us and have done so for years.

  266. CaseStreet says:

Oh, well. The bullpen had a four day rest. Time to get to work.

  267. metsfan119 says:

okay Glavine, you piece of sht, continue your domination against this lineup full of retards

  268. SPINK3 says:

The reason the Mets lose is always Delgado. No matter where he is in the lineup he never gets a big hit. Not since 06′ at least. Hes sickining to watch when his plate appearance matters

  269. Horseman says:

    Memo to the mets:

Please get at least one hit this inning.

    Thank you,

    Mets fan.

  270. HoJoWright says:

if they come out swingin at the first pitch, i swear HOJO needs to go.

  271. EliPorter says:

castillo has to stop swinging for the fences

  272. arudeawakenin says:

I dont know why these guys arent sitting on Glavine’s changeup on the outter part of the plate. go the other way!!

  273. EliPorter says:

GOD DAMN THAT IS NOT A STRIKE. WHY is glavine getting that corner?

  274. ToastyJoe says:

You know, if you just pretend Glavine’s in a Met uniform and the Mets are wearing Marlin uniforms and the calendar says September 2007, this game is actually a lot of fun to watch.

  275. metsfanmurph says:

This may be the worst offensive performance of the year

  276. IamJohn says:

Where was THIS Tom Glavine last year, or do we just stink!

what is that 20 in a row?

    • blains2000 says:

THIS Tom Glavine was in Atlanta. Where he’s been for the last 5 years. Where he always wanted to be.

  277. Ludacrispat says:

    castillo: 0-2
    wright: 0-2

    jam out and k. pathetic

  278. NegativeFan says:

You can’t show me this game and ever hope to convince me that this team actually cares.

The poor dears are tired from travel, they have a DH today, this is such an obvious “mailing it in” game that it sickens me

    • ToastyJoe says:

      I wish I could argue.

    • sheaheykid says:

you really seem to be accurate, and it makes me sick. i can’t help but say, thats its games like this that make me hate this team. i was so positive today, really confident. that first inning came and went – but hey we took it to glav and it looked like we would all day. then they dont get the big hit to break it open, maine lets a quick run in to tie the game, and then the mets proceed to quit and mail in the rest of the game. that should be the postgame. this just makes me so F$%^* angry. And screw my coworkers for saying its just baseball and my fellow mets fans for saying its early (game and season). this SH%T excuse for baseball happens over and over again. Except the ‘rinse’ doesnt wash anything away.

  279. gipper82475 says:

    This is embarrassing.

  280. EliPorter says:

honestly, the mets hitters have no shot today. glavine is getting the strike 6 inches off the plate. the hitters are forced to swing at that garbage and then he can come inside on them… this is disgraceful umpiring. but of course, what do expect? we are frickin loser mets fans.

    • MaineIsKing says:

tom glavine is an example of why baseball almost fell off the planet in the 90’s…..no one wants to see umpires controlling the outcome of games by making the strike zone four times bigger.

      • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

was the strike zone really that bad? i didn’t have the opportunity to see. amazing how for only 5 years in his career, he didn’t get that call. can you guess which 5 years?

  281. ryno says:

Nothing like getting blown away by an 81 mph fastball.

    Embarrassing.

  282. metsfan119 says:

This game was the second Delgado made the last out in the first inning.

  283. markthemets says:

    So painfull to watch DAMN!!!!!!!!!!

  284. miker94 says:

    8 pitches, wow

  285. HoJoWright says:

ugh. i can’t help but start to laugh. are these Mets serious? If i hear one more called strike. I hate Glavine, some one needs to charge him and pound the S out of him!

  286. metsfan119 says:

3 hits, 3 FCKING HITS!!! I hate you Mets

  287. metsfan119 says:

    Pujols was right about Glavine.

  288. ryno says:

Who would’ve thought that Tom Glavine would be the one to knock out Tom Glavine?

Maybe the Mets will finally put some sort of game plan into action against the Braves bullpen.

    • WrightsRight says:

HHAHAHAHAHAHAHA – game plan???? I almost fell out of my chair when i read that Reyes watched tape of his at-bats. I thought they got rid of the video equipment so they could pay Santana.

  289. metsfan119 says:

of course Glavine is too much of a pssy to throw at Shea.

  290. Ludacrispat says:

this was supposed to be the game the mets took to start a big streak.

im mad glavine is out. he sucks. he’s gotten lucky all day (mostly that the mets have impatient and pathetic hitters)

  291. Clendennon says:

It must be the curse of Slappy. I knew that 1st inning jack of his was just too weird to result in a blow out…

  292. MDBNYMETS says:

The thing I can’t stand this year, as has been said many times on SNY, is that the Mets never seem to put teams away early when they have a chance. Today is a little different as Alou and Degado both hit the ball hard, but still, it makes watching the games very un-enjoyably. I just really hope luck will turn around at some point for the Mets, although, Braves fans could have a pretty good point on the luck factor, as they should be about 8 games over .500 right now.

  293. NY Cuban says:

Why did Cox pull him? Fire Bobby Cox!

  294. CaseStreet says:

Well, at least Glavine’s out. Maybe, we’ll rough up the pen.

  295. metsfan119 says:

Gotay base hit, good one God

  296. blains2000 says:

This to me, shows how gutless Glavine was last September. How do you not get an out in a game your team has to win? How do you pitch your worst game in 20+ years? Pedro would have pitched better than that with his arm falling off.

I hated Glavine when he was on the Braves. I hated when the Mets got him. I grudgingly put up with him on the Mets. And I hate him now even more.

    • dykstraw says:

6 innings, 17 retired in a row, 82 pitches, and he’s out of the game during a DOUBLE HEADER? what a gutless me-first player. good thing he wanted to go back to the braves. too bad we didn’t clean house a little more.

  297. mex84 says:

Tatis, pinch hit three-run bomb, you heard it from me first!

  298. ryno says:

Hey Willie, I thought Gotay couldn’t hit lefties?

    • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

i wonder how many times in the last year, the mets won a few big ballgames and we stupid fans thought they were on the brink of breaking out of this funk (although it has lasted over a year and soon can’t be called a funk anymore). this is horrendous.

  299. EliPorter says:

the braves have had the lead-off man get on in 5 off 6 innings

  300. cheapseats says:

I completely forgot about Gotay and how he is on the enemy now…what a mess up that one was…

  301. GeorgeThomas says:

    what happened to Glavine?

  302. Santanaman says:

    Gotay…..well is that just fitting

  303. NegativeFan says:

    What’s Glavine’s pitch count- 30?

    He’s going 9 today.

  304. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    ex-mets!!

  305. HoJoWright says:

ok, there’s still time…You knew Gotay would get on, I can’t believe I’m relying on Show more than Gotay to help my team.

    LEtS GO DP

  306. Ludacrispat says:

    ruben.gotay.

oh well. at least we have damion easley! nice one minaya!

  307. NY Cuban says:

Gotay…you got a raw deal here.

    • blains2000 says:

He only has 26 at bats. It’s not like he’s tearing it up down there.

  308. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    The SHOW!!

  309. GeorgeThomas says:

if you say Glavine with a long A sound, and do the Jerry Lewis voice, it’s kind of fun.

    Hey Glaaaavine!

  310. Santanaman says:

    Chipper 2-run shot?

    • Santanaman says:

Thank god he popped out, I could not have dealt with Larry doing damage there.
OK, let’s get something here….we’re not that bad….are we?

  311. Ludacrispat says:

i cant believe im saying this but…

    thank goodness for scott schoenweiss???

    maybe he should’ve started

  312. metsfaninmd says:

This game is awfully frustrating. Why does our lineup look like they don’t want to get base hits? Glavine looks as if I couild hit his pitching (I can’t but still) ,wtf is going on here?

  313. zen says:

glad to see schoenweis have a nice start to the season.

  314. Ludacrispat says:

and a side note- Castro should be starting this game. he has homerun pop against the soft-tossing lefty

but nope, he’ll play against the righty and schneider does nothing today against the lefty.

    genius willie!

    • RPsJacket says:

Probably wanted Schneider to handle maine.

      Schneider hits Glavine.

Glavine has been worse against lefties this year.

  315. boosmakelittlesense says:

glavine is getting the pitch 6 inches off the plate…seriously, i dont fault the mets…the umps are the 10th man for the braves right now

    • metsfan119 says:

dude, the umps have not been that bad, seriously, and I’m the FIRST guy who would jump on them

      • blains2000 says:

For those of us following along on the internet can we get a ruling? Did the Umps give Glavine the outside corner or not? We need to know who to be mad at.

    • dykstraw says:

      don’t get on willie

it’s the bench coach’s job to argue calls!

  316. ToastyJoe says:

Why the hell was Glavine pulled? He could’ve pitched 10 more innings today, the Mets wouldn’t have scored. We might actually have a chance now.

  317. ravi3 says:

    How about Scotty Schoe?

    • ryno says:

      Another great outing from him.

But I don’t get why Willie is going to bring in Heilman in a close game?? Keep him away from any game 5 runs or closer until he gets straightened out.

  318. metsfan119 says:

how about a baserunner, is that possible?

  319. BillySandman says:

Happy to see Glavine out of the game, finally. Now we can start scoring some runs.

  320. njmetfan says:

when is everybody going to realize that reyes is nothing more than an average player.

actually when you think about it they all are except wright.

compare any of them to rollins, utley, chipper jones, etc.

wake up met fans it not ONLY WILLIE.

  321. ToastyJoe says:

I am kind of curious if the Braves can get through this entire game throwing fewer than 110 pitches. I think they can do it.

  322. HoJoWright says:

I just heard the dreaded words…”Heilman is warming up in the bullpen…”

we better up like 10 runs this inning

    • ToastyJoe says:

This is a perfect situation to bring in Heilman. If he gives up 5 runs, who gives a crap. We’re not scoring again today.

  323. Ludacrispat says:

    this is so sad

  324. metsfan119 says:

have a nice night guys, and enjoy the second game, I think I’ve wasted enough of my life today following this disgraceful team

  325. IamJohn says:

    here comes the K

  326. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    i’m gonna be sick

  327. ToastyJoe says:

    Twenty up, twenty down….hysterical.

  328. IamJohn says:

who else saw it coming, other than me and delgado

  329. Biscuit says:

    Is this 1999?

Glavine dominating the Mets, we get a garbage start from our SP, go down without a fight, can’t win in Turner Field, etc….

  330. Horseman says:

This is horrible!! Give me a baserunner at least. Geez. Delgado strikeout. Fn Shocker!!!

  331. NegativeFan says:

They shouldn’t bother showing up for game 2…..they didn’t bother to show for game 1.

    Gutless, heartless, overpaid mediocre scrubs

  332. Ludacrispat says:

    20 in a row.

willie really had them pumped and ready for this one,

    • Horseman says:

      This comment made me laugh.

    • Biscuit says:

Normally, I would say that is a pretty easy target, but when this stuff happens time and time and time again, you gotta place the blame somewhere, no?

  333. RPsJacket says:

Schoenweiss gets the 7th? C’mon, one more.

  334. SixtyNineEightySix says:

Can we put Delgotyou out of his misery?

  335. markthemets says:

    OOOOOH THE PAIN!!!!!!!!!

  336. NY Cuban says:

I’m not watching, but has this team shown any “energy” or “fight today?

    • Ryan Synagogue says:

Castillo hit a solo home run. thats it

bases loaded in the first, no runs scored.

      20 straight mets retired.

      You be the judge

    • Horseman says:

Mets have not had a hit since the 1st. What does that tell you?

  337. Ryan Synagogue says:

Here’s where we will get the gem from Heilman. a 1-2-3 inning and it will be completely wasted. AND it will put him back in WIllie’s good graces, so he can come in in a close game and lose that for us.

**** hitting today from a **** team. Thanks for that revenge we’ve been waiting for for 8 months

  338. NegativeFan says:

Lets all be honest here please….who REALLY thought those 2 wins over the weekend were gonna be some sort of launchpad?

    Anyone?

  339. ravi3 says:

Geez. With the talent on this team, I just don’t understand how they are .500….Anytime they go on any sort of winning streak, they give those games right back. They can’t seem to sustain any sort of success. That sense of entitlement may have been somewhat understandable last year, but they don’t deserve anything right now. I can’t understand it. They can beat two very good pitchers in Wang and Pettite, and completely cr@p the bed against the definition of average. Its almost like they just don’t try.

  340. SantanaCYYOung says:

the game is not over till its over, but when the mets are down after the 5th inning then its over and when heilman comes into the game it really is over

  341. arudeawakenin says:

here we go with the walks, now he’s going to fall behind a couple of hitters and well…you guys know the outcome

  342. WozzyBear says:

Hey, something new…the leadoff guy gets on for the Bravo’s…

    Aaron Heimlich….

  343. ToastyJoe says:

Wayne Hagin just said the Braves took BP today and the Mets chose not to. Good call.

  344. stickguy says:

does look like the Mets eithre wrote this one off or just don’t care.

Guess the Yankee series was a fluke? Or maybe it proved to them that they really are the best, and will win without trying? You know, flipping the old switch when they need it.

Now Heilmann for multiple innings? Never a good sign, but they should just let him finsih the game to save the “real” pen.

  345. SantanaCYYOung says:

i have a feeling we’re going to get swept today, the mets never hit a pitcher they’ve never seen before.

  346. MacD81 says:

I’ve figured it out. The real Tom Glavine was stashed in the Turner Field basement, only to be woken at a time when he would be needed to beat the Mets.

The Tom Glavine we saw all those years with the Mets was actually a sleeper agent name Mot Elaving. Very sneeky, Braves. Very sneeky indeed.

  347. Lightweis says:

Never fear….Heilman is unhittable when the Mets are down.

  348. Clendennon says:

Yeah sure, lets walk the lead off man. Is it too late to change my vote to 10-1?

  349. HoJoWright says:

did WFAN just say the Mets elected NOT to take batting practice? great idea Willie!

  350. Horseman says:

I hope Wagner gets interviewed after this game.

  351. stickguy says:

and if you can’t do anything against the Braves pen either, that is really a bad sign.

  352. Ludacrispat says:

aaron heilman needs to be put down.

    ps- mike piazza officially retired

    • Ryan Synagogue says:

ah man. what a great career. my first trip to cooperstown will be the day he goes in.

      • WozzyBear says:

My next trip to Cooperstown will be to see that guy inducted. He was the BEST!

    • dave27 says:

Nice – I can’t wait until this jackass organization hands out #31 to some scrub middle reliever.

  353. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Nice, Heilman

  354. SantanaCYYOung says:

    i can’t say i didn’t see this coming

  355. mets19 says:

    WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

    AARON HEILMAN GIVES UP ANOTHER

  356. ryno says:

Wow, Heilman gives up a big hit! What a shock!

Good thing Willie brought him into a close game so it could be put away for good.

    Joke Joke Joke Joke Joke

  357. The mets can’t get texiera because they will have 3 rotation spots to fill as well as left field

  358. RPsJacket says:

    uh oh, here we go…

  359. adam900 says:

WHY IS ERIN IN AGAIN??????????? Willie is starting to do this on purpose I think, I hate this team.

  360. BlueTrane says:

Im sorry, but that pitch before the HR was a strike.
    He should have been out..

It was the same pitch that David was rung up on….

  361. SantanaCYYOung says:

bet you mccann will be in there for the night cap

  362. SPINK3 says:

Anybody that defends Heilman or Delgado on this site again should be banned from blogging. I consider myself a genius for hating these guys like death the past 2 yrs.

    • TBlz says:

We’ll see how dedicated the Wilpons are to renovating the team. Sosa, Figueroa, I think Aaron should be next.

  363. Aaron Hielman cannot be brough into a close game with the braves at this time

  364. dykstraw says:

i will say that willie did a good job bringing aaron in now so he can’t bring him in later

    • ryno says:

Don’t be too quick to judge. Willie trusts his “guys” and for my money that includes using his worst pitcher in both games of a double header.

  365. stickguy says:

Is it just me, or does it seem that every time a Met pitcher goes 0-2 on a hitter, it is almost guaranteed they end up 3-2, or at least 2-2?

Maybe instead of niblling at 1-2 or 2-2, they should throw an out pitch?

    Dump Peterson.

There’s the Heilmann we know and love! Talk about proving my point. Starts 0-2, and he homers on 3-2

  366. gipper82475 says:

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Tick-tock, Willie. Tick-tock. Maybe today was Bill Webb’s fault too?

  367. Azman426 says:

Heilman should accept an assignment to triple a, or get traded.
    Immediately.

  368. atlantasnumberonemetsfan says:

    wow. Heilman…great job

  369. Clendennon says:

C’mon guys, give Heilman a break. The reason he likes giving up the long ball is because it clears all those pesky baserunners off the bases.

    • ryno says:

And he has to represent himself in a certain way so that awful relievers that follow him in the years to come have an example to follow.

  370. Mingo says:

    Send him down now!!!!

  371. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Scho threw 24 pitches and made it through 2 innings. Heilman threw 24 and gave up 2 runs with no outs recorded.

Is there some sick sense of pride attached to Heilman that says we can’t DFA him or send him down because it reflects badly on our ability to develop talent?

  372. markthemets says:

    who pitches game 2???

  373. dr jones says:

    Yawn,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Whatever

  374. arudeawakenin says:

I bet the opposing hitters are like “YES!! Heilman’s in!! higher avg, HR, RBI, BB…”

  375. metties1 says:

    does he have any options?

    • Jova1931 says:

      He has options.
I said he shouldn’t been sent down last week to get his mind right. It’s painfully obvious that he doesn’t have it right now. Let him work in the minors and bring him back in the second half.

  376. kandiman says:

This guy gives up HR’s like they are going out of style. Heilman is just trying to compensate for the HR ball being down in MLB the last 2 years, you can’t blame him, hes just trying to put butts back in the seats.

  377. NYCESQ says:

I feel foolish for getting excited over their weekend play. They look unbelievably flat. Furthermore, my love for Heilman has come and gone.

Minaya, please try and work up some trade magic.

  378. dave27 says:

This team sucks. Just flat-out sucks.

  379. SantanaCYYOung says:

wow, i actually thought that the wagner comments and the two wins against the yankees would be a turning point for this team, guess not…fire willie now, why wait any longer?

  380. sheaheykid says:

its pathetic something like mets blog exists. this team/joke of a franchise is pathetic. seriously

  381. NegativeFan says:

IT’S STILL EARLY, DON’T GET UPSET!

    THEY’RE STILL OVER .500, DON’T GET UPSET!

    - what a load. I’m way past upset with this team.

I’ll say now what I felt after ‘07:

I’m for the uni. The individual players may as well be dead to me

  382. Azman426 says:

Heilman, this is for you. Thats what you deserve.

    (__I__) <——– Eat it.

  383. TBlz says:

I can’t watch the game, and so I have a question for those who can: I noticed Maine’s pitch count way up early, but he was still at least 2-1 strikes / balls. Were the Braves fouling off a ton of pitches?

  384. As I said. They need to do something drastic with Heilman or they’re just wasting a bullpen spot.

Trade him, or send him to the minors with the directive to stretch him out for starting.

    Let my people go.

(my people = underappreciated and underrated former starters stuck in bullpen purgatory)

  385. mex84 says:

Wow, just Wow. Man, get what you can for Heilman at this point. He is a hard throwing reliever who wants to start. Any takers? Hello, anyone?

  386. metsfan42793 says:

yes heilman is bad but this game is on the hitters. you would think the players would want some revenge on glavine for ending their season. honestly glavine is not a good pitcher this year. out of all his starts this year none of them were a quality start. he doesnt have great stuff anymore. also has anyone noticed the mets havent been 4 games over .500 yet?

  387. HoJoWright says:

how pitches do you think the mets will make atlanta throw this inning? i say 8

  388. lol im not watching the game, but when i saw the comments saying Heilman was warming up, I laughed to myself and wondered how many comments I would have to pass before I got the ones about him giving up a homerun. Its like clockwork.

  389. CaseStreet says:

Okay, Heilman is trying to get traded, right?

  390. metsfanatic says:

I can’t see the game. Did Heiman lick his hand and look all hangdog?

  391. dr jones says:

The Mets are a team that comes to play everyday. Its clear Willie got them all fired up before the game.

Why didn’t the Mets take batting practice today? Did they take batting practice on Sunday?

    • dave27 says:

Apparently Monday wasntt enough time off for them.

They should have taken BP and brought Jerry Koosman in to throw it. Or Steve Carlton. That’s pretty much what they got completely dominated by today.

It’s really a bad feeling when you loathe your own team. This collection is almost impossible to root for.

  392. WrightsRight says:

Sun rises in the East, Sets in the West, Heilman gives up a home run….

  393. metsfan42793 says:

y r all the players swinging at balls

  394. NY Cuban says:

    Bench clearing brawl?

  395. Azman426 says:

Stop with the Fire Willie junk. Willie isn’t the one who gave McCann a fat one to hit.

I know you’ll say “oh he should’ve brought smith in.”
Well you know what, you can’t bring Smith in EVERY game, because then you complain hes getting overworked.

    • metsfan42793 says:

i totally agree with you. im a huge willie supporter. sure some of his decisions arent good but he isnt the one playing.

    • gipper82475 says:

It is Willie’s job to make sure the team has a modicum of a game plan at the plate though.

It’s probably not his job to blame SNY for his troubles.

But, I digress, it is obviously Bill Webb’s fault that the team looked so impotent at the dish today.

      • kjmcc0729 says:

it is NOT willies fault! He had to use heilman in that spot, Omar took Sosa away from him!

I heard that Matt wise, feliciano, sanchez, and smith had the day off and weren’t available.

      • Danny1986 says:

i’d play the race card on your ass right now….but I’m all cleaned out.

Give me a second while I break out a fresh deck.

    • altru426 says:

right, but you also have to play to win the games…both feliciano and smith have been more effective than hielman…the game is within reach…you play to win the game…period…

besides…the team isn’t even close to looking as pumped as they were this weekend…i don’t get why it’s so hard for them to stay pumped for longer than like 2 games…

  396. MetsRmilife says:

Really. How many times this year are we going to hear that this is the time they are going to turn it around. The aren’t turning anything around because this is what they are; INCONSISTENT. There are times they are going to blow away teams and times they are going to get blown out. Its unfortunate and is almost more painful than knowing the year is a lost cause because you are going to hold out hope. If anybody can figure out why they are so up and down please scream it from the rooftop. I personally do not know, but since I all I hear is how Willie likes to keep a steady hand and such and a team is supposed to reflect the manager I can only conclude that Willie has no control over this team.

    • Biscuit says:

If it weren’t for Willie, you would still be in “hiding” now….

      (Sarcasm, of course)

    • Azman426 says:

How does Heilman giving up homeruns show he has no control over his team. Please explain that to me.

  397. dr jones says:

anyone know why the Mets didn’t take batting practice today after a day off?

  398. Do the Mets know that there was a 1 pm game scheduled for today? Maybe they figured it was just a night game; simple mistake that anyone could have made.

    • HOFMets57 says:

Maybe the Mets are just applying the appropriate effort in this re-scheduled game, seeing as how they weren’t playing that well when they were SUPPOSED to play this game (beginning of the season)

  399. Mingo says:

On WFAN broadcast they said Mike Piazza just announced officially his retirement.

  400. mets19 says:

And the Roller Coaster season continues…

  401. WrightsRight says:

…and if i hear one guy “tip his cap” to Glavine…give me a break. This was a pathetic performance today and yet another giant step back….the confident side of me says, ok, win the next 3, but please…..a 3 game winning streak is a novelty for this team.

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

I guarantee you will hear the “tip your cap to Glavine” quotes at least 7 times.

      • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

a 3 game winning streak in atlanta is about as likely as castillo going deep three more times in the remaining three years of his contract…….

….or about as likely as glavine going three innings in his next start, against whoever it is…

…or about as likely as. i don’t know anymore. i give up.

    • ravi3 says:

I could see them winning 3 in a row, but it would be followed by 3 straight losses, after which the team alternates wins and losses for the next 2 weeks

  402. Danny1986 says:

good job reyes. now our only power threat today can get you home. YAAAAAAAAY!!!!

  403. Biscuit says:

I say we get 1-2 runs in the 8th/9th but, of course, come up way short in the end.

  404. RPsJacket says:

Holy crap, relax people, let it play out. If it continues, Randolph and alot of other changes will be made. They just won 2, lets see how they do on this trip.

  405. arudeawakenin says:

    Mike Piazza for Hitting coach!!

  406. dr jones says:

    hear the message today…

Guys its gonna be a long day.. I don’t want you guys the wear yourselves out so no need to get to the ballpark early and take batting practice. Just relax and enjoy yourselves. Its all about relaxing after an intense weekend in New York.

The braves took batting practice and it shows. Good call Willie..

    • WrightsRight says:

braves don’t need to take batting practice. they are born with bats in their mouths and patience in their head. mets need to take a cue and canvas texas, georgia, florida – teh entire southeast for guys who know only three things – god, hitting and hunting.

    • dr jones says:

isn’t the message.. by Willie saying not to take batting practice.. Take it easy today!!! What in gods name is more important than making sure these guys work hard. Don’t allow them to chill out. This is a big series.

  407. mets19 says:

Who wants to bet that we WILL see Heilman again in the night game??

    • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

      Mets19,

You’re on. I’ll even take it a step further and bet that he will have a perfect inning. Do I get 1,750 to 1 odds?

  408. kjmcc0729 says:

why not let heilman hit and stay in the game? why burn another arm, besides maybe heiman can hit, since he can’t pitch.

  409. Ludacrispat says:

keith hernandez just asked if pi began with 6

    embarrassments all around

  410. IamJohn says:

Glavine pitching, where’s Julio Franco, this isn’t the old timers day game, you mean it counts, someone tell Willie!

  411. metsfanatic says:

Is it racist to say – fire that guy who is ruining our team – Rick Peterson?

  412. metsfanatic says:

    or Howard Johnson?

  413. HoJoWright says:

time to start throwing at people.

  414. playmaker3128 says:

I think we can all see the mets biggest problem. Once we get down, we start to press. We have bad AB’s. When were up and everything is clicking were good. Unlike a team like the phillies however we have not shown an ability to come back. That missed opportunity in the 1st inning today seemed to deflate this team. For some reason though we let that carry throughout the rest of the game.

I didn’t expect us to win both games today, however losing both cancels out any good we did over the weekend. Vargas second start tonight, don’t really know what to expect.

Hopefully its a good night tonight and the Mets win and the Knicks get a top 2 pick in the lottery.

    • dr jones says:

I agree but not today. Today isn’t about the team pressing.. Its about the guys sleep walking through the game

      • Danny1986 says:

watching the highly professional approach these ATL batters have had all game, and contrasting it against the Mets….one has to wonder what the gameplan was today?

You mean to tell me that we don’t have a book on Glavine? Seriously, What did HoJo tell these guys?

(note I said HoJo. I didn’t say Willie b/c: a) we know he just lets his players play and has no gameplan, and b)…I’m not a racist.)

        • WrightsRight says:

Does this team employ advanced scouts? Seriously. If so, they’re terrible.

And like I’ve said, Braves are professional hitters. They live, breath and die hitting. That’s what they do.

    • kandiman says:

We do that every single game. It’s like they get depressed when they don’t score in their scoring chances and just mail in the rest of the game

  415. Danny1986 says:

who here thinks Chipper is not turnign this 1-2 count into a hit or walk? anyone?

  416. NY Cuban says:

Has an entire staff ever been fired between games of a doubleheader?

  417. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

At least the players have to stick around for another game. So the reporters can ask the guys who actually played in today’s game for their thoughts.

Too bad, after a game like this we might need another closed-door meeting.

  418. phoola says:

OK boys, five runs down, you can do it – you’ve done it before against better bullpens than this one. Let’s go Mets!

  419. WrightsRight says:

Other than that Dodgers blowout, what is it with weekday day games and this team. They have such a hard time winning these games…or at least being competitive. It seems like they always lose big (+5 runs)…..

Anyway, nice to see the Mets mastering the Real Genius dance: Take one step forward, take one step back, step forward, step back….

  420. ravi3 says:

I want to stop paying attention to the game, but I keep finding myself back to the gamecast and msg. boards. Its like someone is conducting an experiment to condition me to something, but its just not working.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

“Its like someone is conducting an experiment to condition me to something, but its just not working.”

      Blame SNY!

  421. dr jones says:

I get the impression like the Mets believe it takes too much energy and focus to come out and play every day.

  422. Danny1986 says:

    Delgado K’s on 6 pitches.

    • cafuq says:

boy were you wrong. you owe Delgado an appology after that weak groundout to first.

    • Danny1986 says:

      wrong again.

honestly, I had narrowed it down to 2 choices.

should have gone with “palys pepper with 2nd base”

Great effort today, guys. Way to deflate yourselves after that 1st inning.

  423. WrightsRight says:

of course, NOW they get some hits….god-forbid they do something vs. Mr. High Arc Glavine with the bases loaded….

  424. boomingranny says:

    they’ll win tonight – sheesh!

  425. markthemets says:

    WTF it hurts real bad………..

    • Knuckles99 says:

What if I told you that there is a 50-50 chance you would be disappointed eating a meal at a particular restaurant. Would you go?

  426. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Braves pitchers combined for 123 pitches the entire game.

John Maine 99 pitches in 4 IP.

It’s called patience and having an approach to each AB. How does not get through to them?

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

It takes a certain type of hitter to do that. They are called grinders. The Braves have them (Chipper, McCann, etc.) The Phillies have them (Utley, Burrell, Werth, Victorino). The Mets however, don’t. Delgado, Beltran, Reyes are not grinders. Their at bats end relatively quickly whether successful or not.

  427. phoola says:

OK guys, PLEASE regroup and let’s come out fighting in the next game.

  428. howellmetsfan says:

DFA Heilman between games, Call up Muniz. Any reason at this point not to>?

  429. Knuckles99 says:

It’s only May and I am exhausted with this team already.

  430. Danny1986 says:

It is so clear that this team can only operate on one momentum ride. Once it is exhausted, they are deflated and give us the walking dead approach the rest of the game.

This game was over after their 1st inning was put to rest despite hitting the ball hard off Glavine.

  431. PacmanJones says:

FIRE WILLIE! And his race card!

  432. playmaker3128 says:

Just looking at the highlights from the earlier innings. Where is this teams approach, the same one they used against the yanks this weekend. Our guys trying to pull those outside pitches against glavine. Granted glavine was pitching inside a bit, however your not gonna get beat inside by an 83 mph fastball. Try and go the other way.

Its ok to have a long AB. Maybe you see 8-9 pitches and still make an out, but you also make the pitcher work. Something the braves did a very good job of doing against maine today, while on the other side we let glavine off the hook.

  433. mets19 says:

This game in my opinion was the most frustrating game of the year. It’s always two steps forward, one BIG step back for this team. Every time you think they are going to get on a roll and start playing consistent baseball, they stink up the joint. Honestly, if they are going to play like this I’d rather just see them lose every game instead of teasing us with an occassional great series.

  434. jectalo says:

    Did we win?

  435. WrightsRight says:

    okay, that’s out of line…

  436. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    wow

  437. NY Cuban says:

His kids are actually Mets fans. How ironic is that?

  438. zen says:

unbelievable. i can’t believe we follow the same team.

  439. MaineIsKing says:

nope the dude is a scumbag and ill throw a party if his kids get hit by a bus

  440. NegativeFan says:

    Jerk

  441. MaineIsKing says:

So what, he is still a horrendous person who purposely blew the last game for us…….I’m a Fidel Castro fan, how ironic is that?

  442. ravi3 says:

    dude…thats not cool

  443. blains2000 says:

    Dude, over the line.

  444. Danny1986 says:

Matt seriously needs to ban children from this site.

  445. RPsJacket says:

    New around here?

  446. MDBNYMETS says:

I agree, I am annoyed about the game as well, but those things shouldn’t be said. We need to remember it is just a game, and if for nothing more, it makes the blog look like a bunch of 11 year olds are posting

  447. fatsfox says:

If you go back and look you will realize that it is just one TROLL making those stupid comments.

  448. SPINK3 says:

Exactly. Or the team plane can crash..either one works for me
