Maine will not pitch on short rest, you can take that to the bank. Vargas should as he is a disposable player, but I'm not sure they will try it. his 66 pitch outing suggests they are thinking of it as an option.

yup, by pulling him on the short pitch count they set it up for him to pitch on 3 days rest.

It will likely be his last, or next to last start with the Mets anyway, unless he starts dominating. Armas Jr. is looking like a better bet right now, and Pedro should be soon on the horizon.

not good news for Pedro or Met fans

Pedro Martinez returned to the Dominican Republic on Wednesday after learning that the condition of his sick father had worsened.

Is Vargas a fly ball pitcher? I'd be a bit wary of pitching Maine in that park. But then again he does pitch in Philly. But I heard Willie saying one of the reasons he pulled Vargas was to bring him back on short rest.

Vargas wasn't that bad last night. He had one bad inning and Willie pulled him for a pinch hitter to get some offense going. Had the Mets put some runs on the board things may have gone differently. Consider that the Mets scored 1 run for Vargas last time out, and yesterday 2 (after he was gone).

With Pedro back, I love the rotation. Who would have thought the offense would be this bad?

If we can't score off Jorge Campillo, we should just give Pedro the year off.

Ha! I don't think I've met or heard of anyone who is more brittle than Alou, especially since he turned 40.
Seriously though, Jones has averaged 140 games played since 2000, Alou has averaged 126. Alou hasn't even reached 100 games in the past two years and it would take a miracle for him to reach 100 this year.
Right now he's our best pure hitter- it seems as though he has given up on hitting for power but can hit .350 at will. There is no need to play him a in the night game of a double header, especially when the outfield was in terrible condition after the rain (another reason Jones was more likely to play as the infield was kept dry).

Pedro coming back is nice, but who honestly believes he can win more than 8 games for us. Even that's a stretch.
