OMG, Alou is hurt!? Say it isn’t so! Who could ever see this coming?

  2. indigo394 says:

Who can believe Alou is hurt…Martinez is hurt….the other guy with the strange windup is hurt…the second baseman can’t move…Delgado can’t catch up with a fastball…and that Willie thinks that its a matter of race.

    • indigo394 says:

I forgot to add - Reyes can’t keep away from a curve in the dirt…who could believe?

      • zemonstar says:

and Castillo can’t hit the ball out of the infield…why the heck did Omar sign him for 4 years???

      • jimyager says:

OMG!! The METS won 2 in a row and lost 3 in a row !!!

  3. metsfan119 says:

yesterday I said the Mets would have to take advantage of Alou’s hitting because he’d be on the DL in two weeks. I was 13 days too generous.

  4. JefJarrett says:

Part of the reason why this team can’t get into any kind of rhythm is that these guys are constantly in and out of the lineup and rotation with injuries……and that blame needs to fall on Omar…no?

On the injury topic, looking at Chavez and Anderson here make me wonder what the hell is wrong with our bench??
Not that I think Bobby V is the answer…..but weren’t his benches always strong, because he rotated them into games constantly….or was that not the case? I do recall Joe McEwing going 0 for August under the magical Bobby V…..then again, I do recall Joe McEwing sucking……so….

    • Dafatone80 says:

Bobby V’s benches were always strong…

Because his lineups were so weak, filled with guys that should be on the bench.

  5. metz1 says:

gee i wish we had a younger team!

  6. imissthemojo says:

you could have a younger team…if the mets organization would stop being asinine…

when they stop gathering all the has-beens released from every bottom feeder and really start DEVELOPING their kids, they could have a younger team. There are kids in the minors clawing for a chance..

hell give it to them. they could muster the kind of effort this squad is. It’d probably be more fun to watch too

  7. Uh, c’mon guys. Obviously Willie should have done more to keep Alou focused on his leg so it wouldn’t cramp up. Someone like Bobby Cox might have even run out there and massaged that cramp away for him.

Too bad. The Mets can never get in a rhythm because old guys like Alou continue to be in and out of the lineup or on the DL. It’s all Willie’s fault.

  8. GregB says:

this is off-topic, but I don’t think there is any doubt that Mark Teixeira is the Met 1B next year…every time I watch him play the Mets it looks like he’s auditioning.

    • MetsFanInVegas says:

I don’t see the Mets getting him over the Yankees. Not after that Santana deal and all the money the Yankees have coming off the books.

  9. jsr530 says:

    Marlon Anderson 34

    Pedro Martinez 36

    El Duque 59?

  10. metz1 says:

i would rather see a kid hit 222 and hope he improves than watch carlos delgado swing and miss at everything!

  11. chew13 says:

    Alou is decrepid!

  12. MDBNYMETS says:

    The Mets are decrepid

  13. metz1 says:

remember the 2008 draft is coming up lets hope with 2 picks in the 1st round and a sandwich pick that we draft good players!

  14. johnfromflushing says:

alou’s not really hitting with any power or driving in runs from the middle of the lineup, it’s all singles…

  15. zemonstar says:

I’ve finally come to accept it. The Mets are a mediocre team, that hot streak we were waiting for, it’s not coming. I’m already looking forward to next year. How bout we sign Dempster and Texeira :D that would make me a bit happier…

    • MetsFanInVegas says:

Lol I’m with you. Right now this team is not making any playoffs. I have always said it’s early but I see this team being extremely mediocre. I don’t see next year being that much better either.

  16. metz1 says:

lets also hope the mets dont pull a ”mcguire wants to much money ” thing and sign a ‘’shawn abner”!

  17. mets2010 says:

its a cramp… he’ll take some fluids and be back tomorrow,

  18. ebfnyc says:

what a talented guy who has so much fear that he was never able to move to the rhythm of the beat of an everyday player and make sure his body and mind were synced and his workouts were good to prevent this.

    COME ON GUY lol

  19. stickguy says:

I also realized listening to the game in the car just now that many of us have been looking at this all wrong.

The Mets are not underacheiving. They are, in fact, about an 82-85 win team, so they are right about where they should be.

Yeah, a couple of guys are below expectations and could get hot at some pint, leading to a few more wins (but that is really just Beltran and Reyes at this point). Other than that, they are what they are.

I guess they could get some breaks and sneak into the playoffs with 90 wins, but that doesn’t really seem too likely at this point.

    • pgiro says:

Yep.. They’ve been a .500 team since last June 1st. That’s basically a full season. The sooner we realize this the better off we’ll be instead of walking around in denial.

Too many old guys on this team, that’s why they come across as flat and lacking fire, they just don’t have it anymore.

  20. stickguy says:

Oh, Omar (or whoever is the GM) has to seriously clean out the dead wood on this team, even if it means “rebuilding” (I won’t use the term take a step back, since that would be hard).

ANd they might wnt to start early, to avoid the rush.

Next year, Duque, Delgado, Pedro (most likely, barring a huge return and finish), Alou, Easley, Chavez, Anderson, at minimum, need to be gone. Heilmann and Wise most likely too.

Castillo I can only dream about, I think we are stuck with him~

The sad thing is, the wrong guys get hurt and hit the DL. If ALou or Delgado would hit the DL, then we might get a preview of some of the AA hitting talent

Or a panic trade of Neise + for a Conine type, whichever Omar prefers.

    • MetsFanInVegas says:

I wouldn’t mind dealing with Castillo if we actually had a team that produced on a consistent basis from the other positions.

  21. metz1 says:

    willie needs to go!

  22. D in Ben Lomond says:

This lineup s terrible. What business does Endy Chavez have hitting #2?

If Willie should be fired it is because he has no clue how to develop a lineup. You need to group all you good hitters together. I can no longer take anderson, castillo, or chavez @#2.

    • TheIcon says:

Ok, who was supposed to bat second tonight if you don’t like Chavez, Castillo or Anderson. Church wasn’t playing tonight? So who else are you supposed to put in there? Chavez was batting second tonight to get speed at the top of the lineup. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Funny how people forget chavez batted second many times in 2006.

      • D in Ben Lomond says:

Yeah, but speed at the top of the lineup is not as important as OB%.

I would have put reyes, beltran, wright, alou tonight… i think you have to group the good hitters together. Who is going to pitch to reyes later in the game when castillo or chavez is on deck? I sure wouldn’t.

there is no justification for chavez @#2. not until he shows he can hit.

With reyes not playing well… its like have 2 auto outs at the top.

  23. metz1 says:

if he as a mgr cannot get his players to respond to him it time for him to go.

  24. metz1 says:

why not let mike carp or nick evans try 1st base. They might not hit right away but at least they will have room to improve.

  25. natty78 says:

This team sucks. Period. End of story.

  26. metz1 says:

since were this bad we have to try something!

  27. seanmcsean says:

This just in… The sky is blue.

  28. natty78 says:

If I were the Wilpons, I would fire Randolph tonight. He is like a cancer on this team. Leadership starts from the top on down. This team clearly does not respond to him and will continue not to do so.

    • stickguy says:

Well, if Willie isn’t leaning on them to improve, and they are largely a lzay bunch that doesn’t care, doesn’t that explain why no one complains about the manager?

If you have a job where you want to collect a pay check for goofing off, and a boss that pays no attention, would you want him fired and a disceplinarian type brought in? Didn’t think so.

  29. wa2k99 says:

Half the team is cancer. Kill the patient.

    • stickguy says:

well, if you have cancer, you first cut it out if you can.

Willie is done, and they need to make some tough choices and radical changes.

Nothing indicates that this team, as configured, is suddenly going to turn it on and go on a roll.

COuld they possibly score less runs with Evans playing instead of Delgado? ANyone over Endy or Marlon?

  30. natty78 says:

Agreed. Sad to say but this team is not going anywhere this year. Can’t wait to hear the post-game player commentary tonight. More of the same…excuses.

  31. metz1 says:

maybe we need a no nonsense mgr that might hold a closed door meeting and let a bunch of overpriced players know what he thinks of them!

  32. natty78 says:

The Mets could conceivably end up in last place this year.

  33. nymrod says:

To all the fans of rebuilding:

I didn’t notice a lot of positive remarks about how encouraging it was to watch Pelfrey get experience.

Nor I have I noticed much bitching about having Church (and Schneider) of late.

Did I miss the “trade Santana across town” talk this weekend? No way could Hank resist now.

  34. metz1 says:

fire wille now! before the the cancer spreads.

  35. metsfansberealistic says:

Alou gets hurt, so Willie should take the blame?

    Listen to yourselves people

This team was put together by OMAR MINAYA

Willie Randolph is the manager and none of this is his fault

    • 41 franchise says:

Agree. What is Omar the Teflon GM?

He relied on aging players (Alou, Delgado, Pedro and El Duque) and 2 hurt players(Sanchez and Castillo(who he also gave a stuid 4 year contract to) to get the Mets through this season.

No back up plan in place for Alou or Delgado(shuffing in Anderson and Easley sure isn’t working).

Omar relied on age and is getting burndt.
Since aquiring Santana he has done nothing to improve the trade(He aquied Church and Schnider before Santana).

If willie goes Omar should go too it is only fair..

  36. RetireNumber17 says:

Wright gets hit, he’d better charge the mound.

    • TheIcon says:

What would be the point of that? Get suspended and lose his bat for 2-3 games? Yeah, that is exactly what the Mets need right now.

  37. MetsFanInVegas says:

wat’s that number for the poll question? can i just text that all day telling the mets to fire omar and/or willie?

    • 41 franchise says:

  38. metz1 says:

true omar gives willie the players to work with but willie also makes many questionable moves and the players are not responding to him.

  39. ifti99 says:

    the wheel’s be coming off……..

  40. metz1 says:

but i also understand we as a whole do not see everything that goes on in that dugout .But something must be done to improve this team.

  41. DavidSargent says:

canadates…..Frank Robinson (who won’t do it), Buck Shulwalter, Phil Garnder, Grady Little, Bobby Valentine….who else?

    • MetsFanInVegas says:

I personally don’t want any of those guys. I’d take Bobby V. back but I don’t know if he’d come back.

  42. metz1 says:

and your right Omar does rely on old players.

  43. need writers

    go mets!!

  44. metz1 says:

One things for sure the mets cant hit!

  45. metz1 says:

if there was one trade i could make it would be for a certain 1stbaseman on st louis!

    • NeedAnAce says:

anyone notice that our idiot manager pitches smith, feliciano, schoenweis and wagner in a blowout and leaves Heilman and Wise to pick their ass???

You are supposed to pitch the struggling guys when the game is over Willie.
You also start the Leftie catcher against the righty pitcer and visa versa in a double header.

Willie ruined 2006 when he didn’t sacrafice. He lost control in 2007 and his team started a brawl when all they needed was a win. In 2008 when the NEED a fight, they lay down and die.

He got KILLED by Beltran when he didn’t argue for him to get his homerun when the umps blew the call, and then pulled the same crap Sunday night…. HES A JOKE!!!

OZZY GUILLEN’S TEAM STRUGGLES AND HE BRINGS IN BLOW UP DOLLS AND THEY START WINNING!!!

BRING IN BACKMAN, LET HIM GO CRAZY!!!!

      • NeedAnAce says:

This is a manager who has not hit and run a single time in his entire tenure as manager. He literally does NOTHING to get a struggling team going. He just stands there and watches.

Would you get the message to Reyes that you don’t try to steal a base down 4-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        He is not respected!!!

      • TheIcon says:

Wally Backman? Yeah, that’s the answer. It’s amazing some of the clueless analysis some people offer on these comments. Amazing. And by the way, it wasn’t Ozzie Guillen who brought in the blowup dolls. It was the players.

  46. metz1 says:

    this team looks lost!

  47. metz1 says:

They should of gotten rid of delgado in the offseason even if they had to pay part of his contract!

  48. Cheer says:

Not too worry, it’s only the end of May…Alou should be back by mid Sept……………………….

  49. Mex_17 says:

Elderly people get hurt more often??? WHA???

Next thing you know, Pedro and El Duque will get hurt.

  50. Cheer says:

    Who’s El Duque ?

  51. Cheer says:

Sorry, but this is funny… Alou is on his way for an MRI………Some cramp…Willie should have told him to take little steps on the way to left field, not normal steps…………It’s Willies fault…..!

  52. 1994 says:

Hey Omar you better sign him up for another 8 mill for next year before somebody else grabs him. And while your at it maybe up Castillo ’s contract another 4 years to make sure nobody grabs him either…you putz.

  53. frustratedReyes says:

everyone has injuries….every single team…..smoltz, glavine, chipper, half the bullpen for the bravos…..jeter, arod, posado…..jimmy rollins was out for a month…..yes there are too many injuries but church’s is a fluke, not based on his age, and pedro and el duque were signed before we had alou, castillo, or delgado…..finally i dont think castillo’s issue is his injuries, i think it’s his work ethic…..THAT signing, and the dropping of Gotay however i cannot forgive omar for…..If we are .500 at the ASB, i say cut your losses and try to trade every you can outside of wright, reyes, church, schneider, wagner, joe smith, angel pagan, duaner sanchez, pelfrey, and john maine.
