According to David Lennon, at his blog
for Newsday, Pedro Martinez will miss his scheduled bullpen session today in Atlanta, as he is on route to the Dominican Republic to be with his ailing father.
Lennon continues on to speculate how this will impact Martinez’s return from the disabled list.

thoughts are with Petey and his family
God speed Petey! My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Travel safe.
Take care of business Pedro, the rehab will wait.
It is covered in depth on mlb.com/mets.com also, for those seeking more information.
Pedro really has had it rough. To go through that surgery and rehab, just to reinjure himself after 3 innings, and now this with his Dad — we whine and complain as fans; this is real life for him. Pedro is a gamer and an emotional leader and that he would go through all of this for the Mets when he could just hang up the cleats as a first ballot HOFer is inspiring to me and ought to inspire his teammates.
Very, very well said. All we heard about was how Pedro was a primadona. It is not his fault he is injured and it is not his fault he did not choose to do steroids. He is a warrior and i can’t wait for him to rejoin the team.
actually, it is precisely his “fault” that he chose not to do steroids, and that is what makes him a real leader and role model. (obviously, we agree.)
Thanks for posting this. You offer a real perspective for those of us who get wrapped up in the game of baseball as fans.
All of our thoughts are with Petey, his dad, and the rest of his family.
totally wholeheartedly agree with this statement…
…it puts things into perspective for everyone, fans, players, everyone…
It would be nice if the players would play for Petey…which is not to suggest that they haven’t, but if I were on the Mets I might use this moment as a bit of a reality check with my teammates. With what Pedro has done for the Mets, time to give back.
Then again, it is unclear to me whether the Mets have a player who provides leadership within the team, but that is more appropriate for another thread.
Here, here
All the best to you and your family.
Poor guy. He has walked along a rough path. My prayers and best wishes to Pedro and his family.
Baseball will ALWAYS be secondary to these circumstances.
I hope your dad can watch you bring a ring to Queens petey.
Apologies for the threadjack ,but my friend just called me and he said he’s hearing rumors in his office Heilman got dealt to the Cubs. Anyone else hear anything about this?
First, my thoughts and prayers are with Pedro and his family! His family is more important than baseball.
Second, John where does your friend work at, and for whom did Mets received for Heilman?
He works in MLB’s building, he didn’t say who they received/would receive for Heilman, but I’d imagine it would be a swap of relievers.
And I said it in another thread, but all the best and best wishes to Pedro, his father and the rest of his family.
Pedro all the best, take care of business and then come back and take care of the Mets
Family first Pedro. I went through this 20 years ago with my Dad. Cancer is the worst way to go. My prayers are with him and his family.
All our thoughts are with Pedro. He has his priorities right.
Pedro, you are a hero to me, and I wish the best for you and your family. You have the support from us, and your father will be in our thoughts and our prayers.
