Uh, no. You don't flip-flop polls by accident. Matt runs a pretty tight ship here and he doesn't do things by accident. His site is anything but sloppy and it's one of the reasons I like it. And, at any rate, the moment he ran the general confidence poll, he could see what it was.

The decision to run the Willie poll later in the week seems intentional, for whatever reason.

Even if the Mets swept yesterday, that would not have mitigated the intense fallout from the O'Connor interview.

besides, he posted the confidence poll at 9am, and from what i can tell, the o’connor piece and the corresponding metsblog post went up two hours later, ...

dykstraw, the issue is not the general confidence poll, but the Willie confidence poll which he didn't run till today. Way after everyone got to read the Ian O'Connor article and the critical fallout. So I'm not sure what your point is right above.

Again, I don't think running the Willie poll later in the week was a mistake by any means.

because he runs polls every monday and wednesday and in this case he just flip-flopped the two? if the mets swept yesterday, that would have really destroyed his willie-hating plan, right?

besides, he posted the confidence poll at 9am, and from what i can tell, the o'connor piece and the corresponding metsblog post went up two hours later, and matt's post didn't even mention willie's comments about the fans which i find far more inflammatory than what he said about SNY.

you're attributing a ton of devious intent to what i'm sure was an innocent mistake.

I will add that I feel like some parents do - although I have never been one. You know how parents often tell their kids that they can play, go to the movies, etc. after they do their homework. Well, I don't think that ANY MET should be doing ANY INTERVIEWS until they do their homework - i.e. win games and become the powerhouses they should be. While Wagner might have woken up the team and accountability is a nice thing, these guys need to get good sleep, somehow stay loose, and eat and breathe the game. All of this PR stuff is counterproductive. Gee, nothing to get your confidence up like answering questions about yesterday's loss or last year's collapse. It's draining and time-consuming. Time that could be used more constructively to win games. Someone explain to me how Delgado or Beltran answering a question will win the next game for them? Maybe the idea is that if they don't talk to reporters, the media writes nasty stuff and then the home fans boo more. I dunno - sounds lame. Play the game the right way - run out balls, for example. If this team excecuted the basics and concentrated on "on-the-field" stuff, they'd probably be better off - including Willie!

Yeah Willie - good luck playing shuffleboard with Art Howe. I like Willie as a person and I know that was mean, but I don't want him on the Mets anymore. And if he's on another team, I don't wish him good luck, just as I don't wish Tom Glavine good luck. I DO wish Gotay good luck though, when he's not playing us and hope he does well in losing efforts, because he cried when he was taken off the team. Willie is more a Yankee than a Met anyway. His talk about Yankee Stadium recently didn't sit well with me, although I can understand that he has many memories there. If he was more successful here, than I could give him a pass. BUT, I will note that the Mets did improve a ton when he took the helm and he has to get some of the credit for that, too. But the 08 Randolph slogan is - HIS TIME HAS COME!

OK, bucko. Apology accepted.

How can it be an innocent mistake, though?

I think he just held off because he wanted to see what the fallout would be from the Ian O'Connor story. But you see, if he does that, then he's selectively choosing the times when to conduct the poll and influencing opinion.

I'm sure the confidence would have been high on Monday after the sweep of the Yankees. But we'll never know.

They should let Giuseppe Franco do the interview, he doesnt put his name on the line for a product that doesnt work. That should rebuild the confidence in Willie.

i'm sorry : )

i still don't buy that he has an agenda here. especially since no one called him on his posting the general poll on monday. it's an innocent mistake.
