preGame: Mets at Braves (Game Three)
By Mike Nichols - May 21, 2008 6:10 pm

The Game:

The Mets (22-21) continue their four-game series versus the Braves (24-21) tonight at Turner Field in Atlanta, starting at 7:00pm EST.

The Lineup:

The Pitchers:

RHP Mike Pelfrey (2-4, 4.17 ERA) takes the hill for the Mets. Pelfrey was stellar in his last start on May 15, no-hitting the Nationals for the first six innings, however he earned the loss allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four through 7.2 IP.  In his last start against the Braves on April 25, Pelfrey earned a loss allowing five runs on nine hits ad four walks over 5.1 IP. He is 1-2 with 5.40 ERA in four career games, three starts versus the Braves.

RHP Jair Jurrjens (4-3, 2.82 ERA) starts for the Braves. In his last start on May 16 versus the A’s, Jurrjens earned a no-decision surrendering two runs, zero earned, on eights hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 5.0 IP. Jurrjens is holding opponents to a .193 batting average over his last seven starts. In his only career start versus the Mets on April 25, Jurrjens was victorious allowing three runs on two hits while striking out four and walking four over 6.0 IP.

The Notes:

David Wright is 16-for-50 (.320) with 3 2B, 2 HR and 8 RBI in his last 12 games. He is batting .259 with 9 HR ad 17 RBI in 139 career at-bats at Turner Field.

The Mets are 13-12, including 2-5 versus the Braves, against the National League East this season.

Moises Alou
is batting .372 in his last 43 at-bats. He is batting .303 (10-for-33) versus right-handed pitching this season.

The Braves bullpen has allowed only two runs over their last 22.0 IP.

Brian McCann is 5-for-9 (.556) with 3 2B in his career versus Pelfrey.

    Lets go… ahh.. never mind.

    • seanmac says:

I have had enough. Listened to the pre-game on FAN and Willie was talking about how the offense will get going when we make the small adjustments we need to make. UGHHH! I have been hearing this for weeks, and yet, no adjustment. How is Rick Down doing right now? Willie, please pick up the white courtesy phone, there is a call for you. LEAVE NOW!!!

  2. JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

    .523, please.

  3. adam900 says:

Time for me to get a new barf bucket for tonight.

  4. Dafatone80 says:

    Why Endy in the two-hole?

    Better yet, why Endy?

Look, I love what Endy’s done for us in the past, but he’s clearly just not hitting.

Why not Pagan? Hell, why not give Tatis some ABs?

    • bluecapsonly says:

Pagan is on the DL, and Tatis is an infielder.

    • ToastyJoe says:

I think the fact that Pagan’s on the DL might have something to do with it.

      • Dafatone80 says:

        Oh yeah, duh.

I’m having a terrible couple days keeping track of the team, aren’t I?

Last I heard, Tatis was getting some games in the outfield in AAA in order to beef up his utility usefulness.

I suppose as long as we’re going to have a guy who can’t hit, Endy gives us our best defense, especially when he’s playing right.

I take everything I said before back. We’re filling in for RF, not LF here, and Endy can throw.

Bat castillo 2nd. Other than that, carry on.

  5. dr jones says:

    Lets win tonight..

  6. Dafatone80 says:

If Church ends up out for any amount of time with this injury (though now he might not be concussed,) maybe it’s time to try someone from the minors. Aguila and Pascucci are both hitting well. I can’t imagine either of them being much worse than Marlon Anderson or Endy in the outfield.

  7. BaysideBillyD says:

By the way, Jurjens walked in all three runs against our boys last time we faced him. The fact that those were the only runs we scored is disgraceful. He had NO control that night.

  8. khmustache says:

nice willie poll today…can’t say i’m surprised

  9. zeekster says:

I don’t even know what to say anymore.

It seems like a cut and paste season.

We fans have been costing the Mets far too many games lately.

You think we would have learned after how we cost this team the pennant last year.

    (Tongue in cheek.)

  10. playmaker3128 says:

I said before this four game set started that i didn’t expect to sweep or anything, but i would be happy taking 2 of 4. Especially since atlanta is playing very well at home this year. Now obviously i would have liked it if we won a game yesterday, but we didn’t. However we can still win the next two. Then IMO the schedule gets a bit easier, maybe we can pick up some momentum. It all starts tonight.

I’m hoping pelfrey can carry the effort he had in his last start over to today.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

2 of 4 would actually be quite nice, yes, in isolation. In context, though, they’ll have to keep the winning going to justify any optimism.

  11. toomanyuniforms says:

We are not a deep team, are we?

Here’s hoping Endy can wake up at the top of the order. He, not Reyes, is perhaps the player who best exemplifies what has happened b/w 2006 and tonight.

  12. Dafatone80 says:

Alright, to make up for my previous blunder, I’m going to propose the single most ridiculous thing anyone here has ever heard.

    What about batting Delgado 2nd?

He’ll get pitches to hit in front of Wright. Delgado’s shown some ability to hit fastballs over the plate this season, if nothing else.

With Reyes on 1st, it’ll be very tough for teams to overshift on Carlos. The slightest attempt at a bunt down 3rd moves Reyes over, and might even get Carlos over to 1st as well.

If this allows Delgado to bat without much of a shift, he’s hit a lot of hard ground balls to the right side.

Any thoughts? I’m aware this is a pretty ludicrous suggestion, but maybe it could work.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Ah, no. Too slow. Too many Ks. The whole team needs to hit second because no one can hit anything but fastballs. Delgado should be given his walking papers.

      • Dafatone80 says:

We don’t have anyone else to play 1st.

Last I heard, Mike Carp can’t field, and that’s why he’s stuck in AA. The roster for Binghamton has him listed as a DH, even.

Yeah, Delgado’s very, very, very slow. But speed in the two hole doesn’t help if you’re not getting on anyway. I like the idea of Castillo there, but we don’t score any runs without Castillo there.

To me, the problem with the Mets isn’t a heart or guts issue, or Willie, or anything like that. Our offense isn’t all that good. That’s the problem.

So I figure, why not shake it up a little? Could Schneider bat 2nd? He takes pitches reasonably well, and can put the ball in play decently. To some degree, speed at the top of the order is overrated.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

I’d bring up virtually anyone. Nick Evans is supposedly a decent fielder. Otherwise, find somebody else’s backup. There has to be a way to get a Sean Casey type here.

    • phoola says:

Not entirely ridiculous but I like him in the 6 hole better. I want multiple runners on when he pops one over the fence. With the way Schneider is hitting it is plenty protection.

      • Dafatone80 says:

I guess I’m just hoping that Delgado has more left than everyone thinks, and that with a real bat behind him (schneider’s been a pleasant surprise so far, but he’s no wright) he’ll turn it on.

Plus, as I keep saying, we’re not scoring runs. What do we have to lose?

        • phoola says:

Delgado obviously has plenty of pop in his bat, and is showing some good plate discipline in the last several games (yesterday excepted). He has been hitting rockets right at people, and home runs that get overruled. The anti-Delgado crowd on here will be silenced soon enough.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

I really, really, really hope you’re right, but I’m pretty sure you’re in outer space with this one.

  13. phoola says:

Let’s go Mets! There are a ton of distractions right now - only one way to eliminate them.

    WIN.

And then WIN AGAIN. And a FEW MORE TIMES. And a FEW MORE AFTER THAT.

Jose, get this game started right! Endy, show some focus out there. I like this speed at the top. Delgado back in the 6 hole, I like it. Spots 3 - 6 all MONSTER players that I will put against any team in the majors.

This is like a Fantasy lineup - with Church on the bench!

    LET’S GO METS!

    • bluecapsonly says:

Jose better not bunt to start this one off again either. When has that worked?, um like never. I hate it when Reyes, Castillo or Endy bunt with nobody on. Make the pitcher work a little to get you out instead of just giving an out to him.

      • Dafatone80 says:

I don’t mind the concept of bunting to get on. Maybe bring it out later in the count? At 2-1, for example. People always talk about 2-1 as this great hitting count. As far as I can tell, it’s a relatively even count. 2-0, 3-1, those are the big hitting counts.

      • phoola says:

yeah, I kinda like those lead-off HRs but starting with a base hit and an SB would set a nice tone for this game. Just hope Endy is patient enough at the plate to let him swipe one.

  14. AlreadyMissShea says:

Obviously since they’re giving Willie an opportunity to clear the air here with this interview running on the pre-game show, he’s not going anywhere.

This would be a good day for everyone to just rally around our favorite team and forget about the rest of the nonsense. Randolph is managing this team, and it’s time for these guys to start playing some consistently good baseball.

    Let’s see it start tonight.

  15. khmustache says:

when you’re talking to a journalist you have to assume that everything is on the record. that being said i think it’s a good thing that willie is finally showing some emotion about something…perhaps this week is just a character builder like harold said. i hope so

  16. mrosey says:

I’ve had a revelation that I need to share.

We want the Mets to win. The Mets want the Mets to win. And everyone is busy talking about distractions. Maybe we’re just as much of a distraction. We’re all frustrated, but think of how often the booing has come up. Every time a player has a bad game and we boo, the press asks “The fans get to you tonight?” and the guys say no, they’re entitled etc. etc. LETS SUPPORT THIS TEAM!!! Matt put up a great post earlier about how none of the four NL teams who made the playoffs last year were having remarkable seasons at this time last year. SO LETS GO METS! LETS BOUNCE BACK! and lets do what WE can by not being ANOTHER distraction.

    • Dafatone80 says:

Generally speaking, I think the people on here aren’t the ones booing at the game. I know a lot of people here are critical, but most people here say they are positive at games.

There are always exceptions, and I’m 100% behind you that the fans should be a positive force.

  17. gipper82475 says:

    Let’s go Mets!

    Fire Willie.

  18. stickguy says:

Seeing Endy starting in RF really does point out how weak (literally and figuratively) the bench is right now.

    • Dafatone80 says:

A couple years ago he was one of baseball’s 4th outfielders.

Just goes to show you how quickly these things change.

  19. Danny1986 says:

    Just win the damn game.

  20. Steve in DC says:

What hurt the most about yesterday’s two losses was the fact that we lost to rednecks.

Has anyone seen Chipper Jones’ profile pic on ESPN? He makes Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel look as sophisticated as Patrick Stewart.

  21. Dafatone80 says:

According to Wayne Hagin, we have Alou in RF and Endy in LF. Huh?

  22. khmustache says:

bobby cox is only 67?!! i thought he was well over a hundred

  23. Mingo says:

Why is Alou in Right Field?

  24. MainStMets says:

    hagins mistake?

  25. MainStMets says:

man wright hit that one on the screws, why cant some of these rockets fall?

  26. MainStMets says:

    beltrans killing us right now

    • Dafatone80 says:

Isn’t he batting like, .950 over the past week or so?

Okay, that’s not quite true, and he had about as bad a day yesterday as everyone else.

But his average has jumped from .210 to .240 in a week.

    • Jefferies 9 says:

Well he’s probably only at 78.64%

    • CitizenSnips says:

Just wait till he starts swinging the Silver Bat.

  27. Darryl Strawberry says:

    Game over before it started.

    • Dafatone80 says:

You know, even if the Mets turn out to be the worst team in baseball, they’ll still win 50 games.

This could be one of them.

      • khmustache says:

        pessimistic optimism!!! i love it!

        • Dafatone80 says:

I’m a pretty hopeful guy. You pretty much have to be to keep going to games in the early-to-mid 90’s and 00’s.

Man oh man, did I love Jason Phillips.

        • Jefferies 9 says:

Wow …. He was the slowest player I’ve ever seen

        • khmustache says:

          i always preferred vance wilson

        • Jefferies 9 says:

          Alan Zinter was my guy

        • Dafatone80 says:

See, and I hated vance wilson with a fiery, inexplicable passion.

I’ll stick by this. Wilson’s defense was horrifically overrated. Guy had a great arm, but let up a ton of wild pitches, and couldn’t do anything on plays at the plate.

Last, he called the game terribly? 2-2 count? Inside fastball, he’ll never see it coming! Every single time.

        • khmustache says:

totally agree. i really hated that guy, but i saw his 1st ml hit against the cubs so i felt a little obligated to like him.

  28. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Endy !!

  29. khmustache says:

dang…thank god for turner field…that’s in the upper deck at cbp

  30. Dafatone80 says:

Did someone previously suggest we start Tatis on the OF over Endy? What an idiot!

  31. AlreadyMissShea says:

Let’s see how much you guys are paying attention. I just found this out a few minutes ago. Anyone here know who Andy Pelaez is?

    • khmustache says:

he loves having guiseppe run his fingers through his hair…but then again who wouldn’t?

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

LOL! I never saw the name there until the last break. I have officially seen this commercial one time too many.

        • khmustache says:

it always stuck me as the most absurd line in an absurd commercial. i was complaining about it one day to my wife when i noticed his name. the guy is just weird

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Do the rest of the guys in the commercial have names? What about the really old guy that gets frustrated and throws all of the rogaine in the garbage can?

        • khmustache says:

mark opper: the old guy with the huge chin

scott gershon: the guy with the blond girlfriend

other guys didn’t put their name on the line for procede.

please don’t think less of me because i know this

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Please tell me you are reading this off of your TV and don’t actually know this by heart.

    • Aquadealer says:

Willies soon to be unemployed secretary?

    • blains2000 says:

      Of course we know! Pelaez!

      Who now?

  32. khmustache says:

    nice veteran play delgrampa!

  33. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

um Luis, you swing before the ball crosses the plate, Thanks.

  34. Dafatone80 says:

I keep arguing that Luis is one of the better 2B in the NL. I still think this is true, but it’s really just a statement about how terrible NL 2Bs are.

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Defensively? You could have an argument there. Offensively, unless Utley, Uggla, Brandon Phillips, Orlando Hudson, Freddie Sanchez all contract the ebola virus…

      • Dafatone80 says:

Freddie Sanchez isn’t all that good offensively, other than that one year a couple seasons ago. The rest you mentioned are all tons better than Castillo. But if Castillo’s one of the better defenders, and other than 4 guys, no one can hit, it moves him towards the top.

  35. Sasseroni says:

Yet another failed opportunity to plate runs with less than 2 outs, shocking.

If they get swept in Atlanta, it’s time to clean house.

  36. blains2000 says:

I think we can add the curse of the Sacrifce Fly to the curse of the Grand Slam.

  37. playmaker3128 says:

Lol sny showed willie clapping his hands. Idk if i heard correct, sounds like the guys in the booth might have got a little chuckle over that one.

You know what, obviously the consistency isn’t there with pelfrey yet. But if he ever develops a consistent breaking ball/and or changeup to go along with his sinker and 4 seamer he could be dominant.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I have been very much impressed with Pelfrey. You are right that the consistency isn’t there yet, but he has been good. He really deserved a win in that day game with the Nats last week. I still have high hopes for him.

  38. MainStMets says:

    hes heating up…

  39. MainStMets says:

    2 for 2, 2sbs, not bad

  40. Dafatone80 says:

Wow. McCann’s allowed 31 of 36 steals. That… that makes Mike look good.

  41. bluecapsonly says:

The Braves broadcast showed willie with a bat looking like he was warming up in the on deck circle while the mets were in the field

  42. AlreadyMissShea says:

    UH OH

  43. MainStMets says:

    DOWN GOES ALOU

    MADE OF FN GLASSSSSS!!!!

  44. Dafatone80 says:

Did alou just get hurt doing nothing?

  45. bluecapsonly says:

what the hell did Alou do, did a balde of grass brake his foot when he touched it?

  46. AlreadyMissShea says:

They’re saying there’s a good chance he is ill. I don’t know where that’s coming from. Maybe he was sick earlier in the day.

  47. Jay says:

Alou needs to be on an AL team…

  48. MainStMets says:

unlike boston theres no monster w a bathroom in it, hes just goin to relieve himself lol

  49. gipper82475 says:

    See ya in August, Moises.

  50. Danny1986 says:

Did a bug hit him or something?

  51. InsaneMetsFan says:

CARLOS BELTRAN NEEDS TO START DOING SOMETHING!

  52. crclark79 says:

Alou is blowing up a bathroom right now

  53. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    what happened??

  54. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Quick Poll:

Who will be back in the lineup again first?

    A. Alou
    B. Church

  55. Bluewater3272 says:

I can see the headlines tomorrow….

    “Turd attack sidelines Alou”

  56. Pacman_Jones says:

It’s well known around the MLB that Alou has herpes. He probably just forgot to take his medication before the game.

  57. MainStMets says:

    anal fissures?

    lol

  58. MetsFan4Decades says:

Man, you guys are hard - LOL !!

  59. bluecapsonly says:

damnit castillo, way to go to sleep

  60. khmustache says:

    a team that hustles? weird

  61. Dafatone80 says:

    Things I’ve said today:

Endy isn’t needed in the OF, his defense isn’t worth his bat.

Castillo’s one of the better 2Bs because of his defense.

    Brian McCann’s a great hitter?

  62. AlreadyMissShea says:

By the way, I’m really a big Church fan. I wasn’t crazy about the trade, but he has been really amazing. I didn’t mean anything bad by the “poll”

It just seemed last night like Church was going to be gone for a while and now they’re talking about him being back tomorrow, which seems kind of fast. And Alou seemed to be OK one second and the next second he was out of the game.

  63. IamJohn says:

That guy can really get down the line

  64. metsfanmurph says:

I am glad that we have a fat singles hitting second baseman with diminishing range for the next four years.

  65. Pacman_Jones says:

Damion Easley, Jeff Keppinger pre kneecap collapse and Ruben Gotay all would have made that play. Thank could we have this grandpa for 4 years! Game over.

  66. Airfeet says:

Castillo is a bum…cant believe they ruled that a hit

  67. MainStMets says:

    frustration sets in again

    walks are killer

  68. IamJohn says:

great play slappy, at least it didn’t cost us anything

    this is BS

  69. Airfeet says:

    im furious

  70. InsaneMetsFan says:

I didn;t know Castillo played Right center.

  71. bluecapsonly says:

Anyone notice that Luis puts absolutely no power on his throws, no matter the situation. Willie needs to go take that scrub out of the game.

  72. Mitten says:

im getting really tired of this team blowing games for pelfrey…i thought pelfrey was a waste at one point but now that hes changed it around, this team doesnt score run/blows games…B.S.

  73. Pacman_Jones says:

Why isn’t Willie benching Castillo for not charging that ground ball? Reyes would have been benched, just because Castillo is a grandfather he shouldn’t get a pass.

  74. mets19 says:

    Good Game, we lose.

  75. Darryl Strawberry says:

Every game, the same players kill us. This is another loss. Thanks a lot Castillo.

  76. ryno says:

Doesn’t that just sum up this season??

  77. Airfeet says:

Castillo didnt make that play based because he was a retard and misjudged the amount of time he had to make hte play…he coulda easily charged the ball and thrown out Texiera but instead he squared to make the play and didnt have enough time…what a moron

  78. Pacman_Jones says:

This game is over. Opponent takes a lead = mets bats fall asleep. We’ve came back to win 1 game this year incase any of you forgot.

    • RockfordMetsFan says:

I too have unfortunately noticed this.

      • Pacman_Jones says:

Yes, yes, anyone who has watched this team this year has noticed it. We came back from behind TO WIN, coming back to take a lead and then lose it again doesn’t count here. When we’ve trailed, we’ve come back to WIN ONE GAME all year. This is beyond ridiculous, but at least we can all watch and NBA playoff game tonight as we already know the outcome of this one. Glad Marlon Anderson just missed a routine fly ball. WILLIES FIRED!

  79. metsfanmurph says:

Castillo doesn’t charge hard enough on a ball and Chipper busts his butt and gets to third….. everything you need to know

    • ryno says:

If it was a Met hitting that, they would’ve jogged down the line and to second base.

  80. khmustache says:

four year contract….he’s gonna be fun to watch at 36

  81. Ludacrispat says:

it seems like the braves hit best with two outs— the complete opposite of the mets

    • Pacman_Jones says:

What are you talking about? We scored TWO RUNS in the eigth last night with 2 outs, lol..

  82. Airfeet says:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH….CANT BELIVE THE KNICKS HAVE THE 6th PICK!

  83. IamJohn says:

    This inning should be over

  84. bluecapsonly says:

after Luis fielded that ball he looked surprised that Tex was hustling…and thats the diff between the Mets and every other team in this division.

  85. metsfanmurph says:

Castillo gives no effort. It was evident in Pelfrey’s last start when he jogged around the bases on the ball Kearns dropped. Castillo plays a very lax 2B, constantly lobbing the ball and not charging hard on balls.

  86. MainStMets says:

    GAME F’N OVERR

  87. metsfan119 says:

Mets behind. Game over. That’s Willieball for ya.

  88. IamJohn says:

alou would have gotten to it on only 5 bounces

  89. Airfeet says:

can we trade beltran for prospects at the deadline???

  90. Pacman_Jones says:

    WOW, WHAT WAS ANDERSON DOING?

  91. khmustache says:

    ***!!#@!@#*$#W!#@!#@@!!@#$$#@*&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  92. Ludacrispat says:

the game thrown away on 1 play by castillo

however, not only did pelfrey walk a guy with 2 outs, but he just has to learn how to get himself out of jams. its like if an error is made behind him he just throws beachballs and says, “oh well, it’s not my fault anyway. whatever happens happens.”

  93. ryno says:

Good thing SNY isn’t showing Willie in the dugout. That would really demoralize the team.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Why didn’t you catch him patting Alou on the butt when he came out of the game after his herpes flared up and didn’t you notice him SCHOOLING castillo after he botched the game for us?

  94. WrightsRight says:

    …and the wheels come off….

  95. Pacman_Jones says:

We’re losing? Ah Well, time for the bats to go nighty night.

  96. bluecapsonly says:

    Pelfry 0 earned runs
    castillo 3 runs

  97. mets19 says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  98. Two-By-Four says:

From the Braves POV it’s like taking candy from a baby.

  99. appleinahat says:

UUgh, Did anyone else see that guy in the stands wearing a mets shirt and tossing his little kid dressed in Braves clothes in the air after francours hit?

  100. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Trade for Scott Gershon NOW!

  101. metsfanmurph says:

What happened to Alou, I was in the bathroom after the Wright RBI?

  102. appleinahat says:

I dont get SNY so i dont get to see that many games, when did Pelf ditch the mouthgaurd?

  103. WrightsRight says:

just got home…what did castillo do?

    • WrightsRight says:

..and what happend to alou? beside herpes?

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

        Cramp in his left leg

      • Dafatone80 says:

Castillo didn’t charge a slow ground ball while playing deep. He also double-clutched on the throw, and didn’t get Teixeira at 1st with two outs. 3 runs ensued.

Alou came out in the middle of the inning. We have no clue why.

      • khmustache says:

castillo playing lazy ball in the field that put’s runners on the corners…next hitter gets a triple

        alou has a cramp

    • NickA33 says:

Castillo was playing just off the dirt (further back than usual). Tex had a routine grounder to 2nd but, because Castillo was so far back he was late on the ball and then double clutched it (b/c he couldn’t get a clean hand on the ball) when he threw to first….Tex safe at first, Chipper moved to 3rd.

Next batter, McCann hits a bomb to deep off the right field wall.

2-1 Braves. Next batter, Frency hits a bomb to left/center, McCann scored….3-1.

I just heard that Alou left w/ a cramp in his leg.

  104. miker94 says:

well i guess that about does it, one more game tomorrow, if we lose willie is gone

  105. Darryl Strawberry says:

Now Jurrjens will go through our lineup with ease. So typical. If Alou goes on the DL, we don’t have one player in the minors right now who can play MLB outfield.

  106. Pacman_Jones says:

It should be fun to hear Gary speak about Alou’s herpes infection. Oh poor Castillo crying in the dugout!!!

  107. les paul says:

Well at least…… nope… I am fresh out of empty optimism.

  108. Pacman_Jones says:

The rest of this game is full of foul ball pop ups, routine ground balls and strike outs. Final score, Braves 9, Mets 1.

  109. IamJohn says:

    here comes out # 2

  110. bluecapsonly says:

What the hell did Omar see in this scrub. Castillo is absolutely my least favorite player. Absolutely no effort. At least Delgado and Heilman try when they suck. Castillo looks they hes trying to suck

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Have you seen Delgado swing a bat? He closes his eyes, blindy swings and prays.

  111. Mitten says:

lets just rebuild…if we’re gonna lose lets have a legit excuse

  112. miker94 says:

let’s place bets now, how many more hits will the mets get from this point on? I say 2, and both will come with 2 outs and no one on, therefore they will be meaningless. and one of them will be from beltran.

  113. IamJohn says:

K or ground out to second?

  114. Pacman_Jones says:

ALOU HAS PMS!! THATS A DL TRIP!

  115. MainStMets says:

    alou= cramp in left leg

  116. metsfanmurph says:

    Alou drink some water

  117. Bluewater3272 says:

Alou has a cramp in his LEFT LEG!

    LOL

    LOL

    this is a joke.

  118. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Cramp in Alou’s left leg

  119. Pacman_Jones says:

There’s another ground ball and here’s the strikeout. Jurjens is throwing a gem from here on in.

  120. metsfanmurph says:

Castillo did you see how Johnson sprinted in on that ball and threw it off balance????

  121. IamJohn says:

That delgado really gets down the line, ground out to 2nd on 2 0 pitch, who saw that coming

  122. Pacman_Jones says:

    Our offense is SO powerful!

  123. crclark79 says:

The mets are going to win this game.

  124. Ludacrispat says:

mets just mail in games when theyre losing

  125. mets19 says:

This games over. Look how flat they just were. They are giving me no reason to believe they are even going to score another run.

  126. Two-By-Four says:

Castillo took a siesta on a ground ball. It wasn’t that bad but he didn’t show the greatest of urgency on a ground ball and double clutched on the throw allowing what would have been the 3rd out to get on base on an infield hit and the flood gates opened, But he’s a hobbled veteran so he’s privileged on this team and allowed to do it. Of course Pelfrey did nothing to pick Castillo up but really what can you expect from Pelfrey.

    • bluecapsonly says:

Pelf had just battled from 3-0 down to get TEx, the Braves best power hitter to hit a weak grounder to second. I think I would lose my concentration too if my team didn’t pick me up on that one.

    • mets19 says:

“Siesta”??? Hey dont be racist now!

  127. miker94 says:

that’s one 1-2-3 inning, many more to come

  128. gipper82475 says:

    Surrender lead, offense surrenders meekly.

    Willieball!

  129. InsaneMetsFan says:

    @#%& %&$# &%#$ $@#&% ##$@#$#@

  130. MudvilleNine says:

Say what you want about willie but it all comes down to our so called hitters. Our pitchers make mistakes with the ball running back over the plate, and their guys crack them. Their pitchers make the same mistakes, we pop them up. You have to begin to wonder what the hell they are doing.

    • HITorDIE25 says:

What the hell is Hojo’s job title? We fired downs for less…what has hojo done since he took over?

      • WrightsRight says:

hitting coaches are overrated but advanced scouts are not. it seems that either a) the scouts suck or b) the mets chow down at the pre-game buffet instead of reading the reports or c) both.

        They have ZERO approach.

  131. Darryl Strawberry says:

I don’t buy a cramp in the leg. I’m sure it’s the quad again and it’ll be serious. It always is with Alou.

  132. metsfanmurph says:

This is like groundhog day for the last year. The Mets fall behind after the 4th inning and proceed to go down 1-2-3 and never come back.

  133. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Way to mount anything that resembles a comeback inning.

  134. SantanaCYYOung says:

does anybody think that run willie’s been talking about will ever come from these mets?

    i don’t

  135. Darryl Strawberry says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if we do not have another hit for the rest of this game.

  136. Danny1986 says:

That Castillo play is a PERFECT example of what is wrong with this team. Why didn’t Castillo make that play?..

    - Not because he is old
    - Not because he is slow.
    - Not because he has no heart.
    - Not because he is injured.

He didn’t make that play because he wasn’t positioned correctly on that 2 strike pitch. If Pelfrey is going to bang Tex outside with sliders and changeups, why is the 2nd baseman deeply shifted to play the pull when it’s a pitch intended to make a lefthanded hitter top it off and ground out more up the middle? NO WAY does Babe Ruth even pull that pitch hard into the hole. Castillo should have been positioned normally, and this inning should be over. It’ that’s simple.

Cox had Francouer positioned PERFECTLY in the RCF gap in game 1 yesterday when Delgado lined out on a ball that is usually a hard hit run scoring extra base gapper. Why be positioned there with a lefthanded power bat at the plate? b/c Francoeur knew the pitch Glavine was going to throw.

And that’s the difference between managing well, and just ‘trusting your boys’. So when ANthony DeRosa says ridiculous things like “Willie doesnt bat. He doesn’t pitch. It’s not his fault.”. Guess what, AD? There is a perfect example for you. RIGHT THERE.

And that’s why Bobby Cox is Bobby Cox, and why Willie Randolph is talking about unfair treatment and racism.

    • metsfanmurph says:

      great point and great example

    • Ludacrispat says:

perfectly said. just like batting endy chavez in the two hole- yes, willie doesnt ground out weakly every at-bat, but he put that guy out there and batted him second!

    • Kayemtee says:

      Well said!

    • MudvilleNine says:

Spoken like someone who’s never coached before. Castillo is suppose to position himself according to the pitch going to be throw. He can see whats being called, Willie cant. That was all on Castillo. Can Willie, but dont blame him for things thats not his fault.

      • gipper82475 says:

You are right…most of these things are Bill Webb’s fault.

      • Danny1986 says:

Spoken like someone who’s simply looking to fight.

It’s not just about the pitch. It’s about the count. And the book on Tex is you don’t go inside on him, especially with runners on base. AND ESPECIALLY WITH 2 strikes.

You fault Castillo all you want. He should have been told to play normal depth once the count went to 2 strikes, or perhaps even the entire AB.

  137. metsfanmurph says:

How many hits will the Mets have for the rest of the game?

    A) 0
    B)1-3
    C)4-6
    D) a bunch and come back to win 7-3

  138. SantanaCYYOung says:

    same poll from last night:

in the 4th inning with the mets trailing by 2 runs do you think they will come back?

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Seeing as they’ve done it once all year, and the deficit that they overcame then was ONE RUN, I’m going to go out on a limb and say NO!

  139. AlreadyMissShea says:

You have to hand it to Alou. At least he didn’t waste anybody’s time going through the motions of trying to walk it off or having the trainer feel him up a little bit. He just walked off the field so we don’t have to be here until midnight tonight.

  140. tvtechwonv27 says:

Let’s be HONEST about this team… Players are grown MEN who should be motivated and not babysitted by the Manager… Willie needs to get some heat for his lack of motivating his players ,but the players on this team seem to be just going through the motions… Everyone from Reyes,WRight,Beltran,Delgado have shown me NOTHING… This team sucks…

  141. metsfan119 says:

The only question now is how long do the Mets wait to do what they should’ve done after last season?

  142. Airfeet says:

First of all…yeah maybe he wasnt positioned correctly..but he coulda made the play if he charged the ball like he should have….second of all…can we get BOBBY VALENTINE back to manage the team???

    • tvtechwonv27 says:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO… Been there done that… There’s a reason why no MLB team offers him a job… Why the hell do you want to go backward… Geez…

      • dr jones says:

Is this you Mota,, didn’t we clear this up earlier..

MLB teams have been offering opportunities to come and interview. He turns them down. Like I said before,, The Dodgers were going to give the job but he didn’t want it

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Have you seen The Zen of Bobby V.?
I watched it the other night. He isn’t coming back. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch the first five minutes and you’ll wish you were with him right now. He’s having the time of his life.

      • Danny1986 says:

that was such an AWESOME production.

Bobby V is just a great baseball mind. His ego certainly gets the best of him when he was in NY, but I was shocked how humble and stoic he appeared.

Great scene with him and Benny in the cage. Benny was down and in a slump, and you see BobbyV giving him instructions and motivation. Don’t tell me these are men who know how to play a game and don’t need a coach giving them instruction (another fabulous Anthony DeRosa-ism). These guys are human, and rely on a coach just as much as you and I did in High School.

Anyway, I digress. Big props to ESPN on that production.

  143. SantanaCYYOung says:

here comes the two out rally for the braves

  144. IamJohn says:

    great play again slappy

  145. WrightsRight says:

It will be 3-1, Mets will tie at 3, and Heilman will give up a 2 run bomb….

  146. IamJohn says:

i think it missed his head by inches

  147. HITorDIE25 says:

The annoucers on ESPN are spot on…agree?

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I’m watching on SNY. What are they saying on ESPN? I didn’t know it was on ESPN.

  148. metsfanmurph says:

I like Willie and I don’t think he deserves to be fired but a change has to be made.

    • gipper82475 says:

If the greatest collapse in the history of baseball (which is not exactly a new sport) and a calendar year of sub-.500 ball with a talented team and now delusional behavior about SNY conspiracies is not deserving of being fired…pray tell, what would qualify in your mind as deserving?

  149. Pacman_Jones says:

Who’s ready for another 1-2-3 inning from the mets?

  150. miker94 says:

have the mets ever once had a 1-2-3 inning when we are in the field. seems EVERY time we have 2 outs with no one on, someone gives up a walk or hit. EVERY time.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Yet once we fall behind, the bats are DEAD and we go 1-2-3 every inning, HECK Glavine retired us 18 in a row! No fire. FIRE WILLIE! At least once we get swept tomorrow, Willie’s job will be and should be gone. Something good will come out of all this lifelessness and losing, just stick it out fans!

  151. MetsFan4Decades says:

Stinkowski ?? I least I’m having SOME fun listening to Keith….

  152. AlreadyMissShea says:

    OK, let’s see

    MARK OPPER

    And

    DOUG FRAZER

    And

    ANDY PALAEZ

I really feel like I know these people now.

    • khmustache says:

      i think there’s 2 different commercials…i’m gonna youtube them

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Oh man, we may have a controversy on our hands. The one I just saw did not have a Scott Gershon, but there was definitely a Doug Frazer.

        • khmustache says:

i just looked it up on youtube. i found one with gershon but without frazer…is giusseppe reusing busey stock footage?!!! i’m outraged!!!!

  153. Kayemtee says:

To think that I waste 20 plus hours per week watching this team. Perhaps Randolph isn’t our biggest problem. Omar bashing time? How can we justify this bum at second base for four years? He can’t hit but i thought he could field. Why has Beltran avoided much of the criticism heaped on Delgado? We knew Delgato was over the hill but Beltran is on a pace to hit 11 HRs for the season. What’s going on?

  154. metsfanmurph says:

    Ok here goes another poll..

For the rest of the game which will there be more of

    A) Mets hits
    B) Guiseppe Franco commercials

  155. Danny1986 says:

you guys want to know why we are down 3 runs?

read my post directly above on teh Castillo play.

  156. Airfeet says:

This team must be the most frustrating team in baseball….the team wins 2 in a row against good teams…looks like they get going in the right direction and they instantly lose 2 or 3 in a row….Reyes gets his bat going then instantly goes cold…Wright gets hot then goes cold….its the same story all around…the only winners on the team right now are Church and Schneider

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Dude, the Yankees are not a good team. They’re 4 games under .500. CASTILLO SUCKS! We will have more ground ball outs than balls hit out of the infield.

  157. tvtechwonv27 says:

We need a NOOOO NONSENSE Kick in the Ass type Manager that takes no Crap… BUCK SHOWALTER… I really think he has the goods to really carry and kick a team into gear… Buck Showalter for Mets Manager….

    • Dafatone80 says:

      Hire Buck. Fire Buck.

Quickest way to the World Series is to fire Buck Showalter.

Didn’t quite work for the Rangers, but Dbacks and Yankees…

    • HITorDIE25 says:

      I dig that….Buck a fire ball

  158. InsaneMetsFan says:

    Here Here, Bobby V!!

I know a bartender at his Restaurant, I’ll got Bobby V. back.

  159. 1994 says:

And once again Alou is out and once again Castillo proves that he’s another old man that Omar wasted money on.

Time for more excuses after the game tonight…bottom line is Omar, Berazard and Willie need to go and hopefully Castillo and delcrappo leave with them. But that won’t happen, everyone knows its the racist fans fault this team is boring and the booing fans are the reason this team is losing.

  160. AlreadyMissShea says:

    ALOU UPDATE

    Cramp in left calf.
When will we see him again?

    • WrightsRight says:

      In time for the postseason

      • Pacman_Jones says:

If he’s traded to a playoff caliber team, Diamondbacks, Braves, Phillies. The only postseason the mets will be part of is watching it from their sofas.

  161. metsfanmurph says:

I went onto the Knicks blog and they have it set up the same way as this blog including the Fan Confidence Rating. Well in March the Knicks fans had a 0 for confidence rating. If the Willie Randolph confidence rating poll came out tonight I think he may get a 0.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Nah man, the Willie Lovers will silently vote yes for him. When we win a couple games they’re very vocal on here screaming “SHOULD WE FIRE WILLIE NOW?” Yet during, stretches like these, they are NOWHERE to be found. FIRE WILLIE!

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

The problem is there ain’t no zero.
He gets a 1 here automatically the way it’s setup.

  162. Airfeet says:

I FEEL LIKE THE GUY ON MAJOR LEAGUE 2 RIGHT NOW….GET EM OUT OF HERE….TURN SHEA INTO A PARKING LOT

  163. Ludacrispat says:

willie needs to just start yelling in the dugout right now. just start telling his players this game isnt over and to wake the *** up.

oh but wait–its not the yankee way, so he won’t.

  164. MainStMets says:

can i have some suggestions as to who we all wanted to be the 2B this season?

I do recall this blog being vry excited when we got Castillo last summer

Update: Reyes on base for 3rd time tonight…

  165. NY Cuban says:

I’m glad Willie’s controversy didn’t affect this team. Can you imagine if more guys heard them?

How can you not come to play against the BRAVES!!!?!?!?

  166. metsfanmurph says:

Reyes is a grown man I don’t believe that he is dependent on Jose Valentin.

  167. Pacman_Jones says:

What is this Jose Valentin and his positive impact on the team? This is the same Jose Valentin who was caught giving felacio hand/mouth gestures on the top star of the dugout during a spring training game? How quickly these announcers forget!

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

LOL! That was the same game where they showed the two kids on the berm and Gary said something like “Spring baseball is a great family outing” just as one of the kids punched the other right in the face. Then they had a UFC fight for the rest of the game.

    • metsfanmurph says:

I didn’t hear them mention Valentin’s AB in game 7 against the Cards. That AB lost us the game and the NLCS.

  168. Pacman_Jones says:

Well we can change the channel now, Endy’s up, weak ground out or infield popup. Seen this too many times!

  169. Hernandez_1B says:

Too bad the mets don’t have any players that bust it down the line on a grounder to second base like Tex did. The Castillo play has nothing to do with him being old. He was LAZY and it cost him and the Mets. I hope Pelf kicks his ass after the game. We need that brawl between the teammates like they did in Major League 2. Maybe that will spark the team.

Also Castillo better be at his locker after the game and explain why he is a lazy ass

    • khmustache says:

he won’t be…that piece of crap never gives interviews..

    • NY Cuban says:

He’s not lazy….he has bad knees. He’s doesn’t want to over-exert himself and risk injury. He is thinking of the good of the team. This is only one game. Its not a sprint, its a marathon.(sarcasm)

  170. Pacman_Jones says:

Like I was saying…. weak ground out. This team sucks! Endy’s glove doesn’t compensate for his little league effort bat anymore.

  171. Ludacrispat says:

endy chavez is the most pathetic excuse for a hitter….and willie has him hitting second

    reyes- 2-2, a walk

    chavez- 0-3

and people question why willie should be fired

    • Pacman_Jones says:

      Agreed!

      • kendychavez says:

we’ve gotten all the magic we’re gonna get out of endy. he hasn’t hit anything before or after 2006. it’s absolutely ridiculous having him hit second

  172. metsfanmurph says:

    Update after the 4th inning

    Mets 0 hits
    Giuseppe Franco 1 commercial

  173. Dafatone80 says:

Yeah. Endy 2nd is pretty much the worst thing ever.

    Delgado 2nd! Think about it!

Will get better pitches to hit, and he’s shown some ability to hit fastballs over the plate. Church is good at 2, but then the bottom of the order is too weak.

If Reyes is on 1st, you can’t really overshift, or else a bunt becomes 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd.

  174. WrightsRight says:

The bloom is so far off the endy chavez rose….awesome fielder, not so awesome hitter, pretty much an automatic out.

  175. InsaneMetsFan says:

    I give up!!

  176. guys just stop it you know what- this is the time where as mets fans we rally. what a great story it would be for the biggest underdog in New York to turn this around- Willie R.
This is where as Mets fans we became Mets fans and I think we’ve all forgotten about that- myself included. I don’t dislike Willie anymore, I have reached a point where I have to pull for him. He is a New York dude and I respect that as stubborn as it may be perceived as, he has not changed who he is. I may not like it, but I damn sure respect it, and I mean it when I say I want him to get this done.
The easy thing would be to pile on the bandwagon which I admittedly have been driving since September 2005, but then I remembered why I am a Mets fan.
    Lets go Willie

  177. Pacman_Jones says:

Pelfrey refuses to pitch to Chipper. Implosion time!

  178. metsfanmurph says:

Has Pelfrey even thrown Larry a strike today?

  179. tvtechwonv27 says:

Seriously doesn’t the Mets need a manager that can chew out a player a NO nonsense type manager??? Let’s get Buck Showalter Pleaaaaaaaaaaase…………

  180. MainStMets says:

    jones owns us

  181. mets19 says:

You had the figure that was coming

  182. Pacman_Jones says:

    PUKE

  183. SantanaCYYOung says:

if wright ever has a career like chipper;s i’ll be more than happy

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Chipper doesn’t go on hitless streaks for 3 weeks at a time. THERES THAT BRILLIANT FIELDER ENDY CHAVEZ! WHAT AN ASSET TO THIS TEAM!

  184. AlreadyMissShea says:

    F.U. LARRY

  185. Pacman_Jones says:

    Pelfrey’s all done.

  186. WrightsRight says:

    chipper

  187. Gina says:

I hate Chipper Jones so so so much. I don’t even think there are enough words in the english language to describe how much i hate him.

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

He gets up for the Mets. The Mets players walk back to the dugout for the Braves.

  188. NY Cuban says:

That’s it….I think I might join my wife watching American Idol. I can’t believe I just typed that.

    • khmustache says:

i’ve already gone over…you guys are missing a pretty sweet bryan adams song…

yes, i prefer bryan adams over the mets at this point

  189. MudvilleNine says:

See, down the middle they crucsh it. Down the middle to the Mets and its a popup.

  190. metsfan119 says:

    LET’S GO METS!

  191. tvtechwonv27 says:

WOW CHIPPER JONES… Great Player… This guy is just insane…..

  192. Ludacrispat says:

haha endy go back to 2006 you bum

  193. Airfeet says:

we need a manager that will get thrown out of a game one time to protect his players

  194. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Well, we’re going to be watching Santana tomorrow trying to avoid the 4 game sweep.

  195. Pacman_Jones says:

ENDY CHAVEZ BRIGHT ASSET TO THE METS ORGANIZATION! CANT HIT AND CANT BIT UP A ROLLING GROUND BALL!

    • chew13 says:

Dude its his 1st error in three years. Give him a break. Its not like the manager has given him much PT this year.

  196. ccmetfan says:

Chipper hits a hr. Oh well, at least he helps my fantasy team

  197. mets19 says:

The mets are making the braves look like a 100+ win team. Lets face it, we arent going where with this group. Get rid of everyone but Wright Church Santana and Maine and overhaul the entire franchise.

  198. WrightsRight says:

we all hate chipper but he is absolutely incredible. A hitting machine.

Hey Delgado! 36 YEAR OLD Chipper Jones is a hitting machine!
And HE hasn’t lost any bat speed…..what say you, Delgado?

  199. metsfanmurph says:

The Braves have hustled… remember when the Mets did that?

  200. Hernandez_1B says:

Can we just call up the Zephyrs and let them play out the year? At least they would wanna be here.

  201. Pacman_Jones says:

Time for the Lakeshow… F THE METS AND RACE CARD WILLIE

  202. 2008 METS WILL WIN IT ALL-
    YOU HEARD IT HERE 1ST

  203. tvtechwonv27 says:

If David Wright ever wants to emmulate and follow a BASEBALL PLAYER he should go watch this guy CHIPPER JONES… WOW…

    • Gasface77 says:

That is exactly what I meant in my comment below. Exactly! …and Willie should try to emulate Bobby Cox.

  204. adam900 says:

Soo the more we lose, the faster Willie gets fired?

    • Mex_17 says:

We can only hope. Randolph has embarrassed this franchise enough already.

Maybe then more Mets fans will come out of “hiding”.

  205. Gasface77 says:

The only thing I can say is that I hope all of the Mets are taking notes. They can learn something from the way the Braves approached this series. That includes all our little stars and our manager. Position by position we are getting outplayed. It is pathetic. Anyone who supports Willie should watch the Braves play. Whether they are winning or not, you can see the difference that the manager makes when watching this team.

  206. Hernandez_1B says:

I can only imagine what Keith, Ron and Gary are saying between innings. I would love to hear it.

  207. metsfanmurph says:

I completely agree with Keith and Ron. Chipper has to get plunked.

  208. Pacman_Jones says:

Who wouldn’t engage on this team? I say Castillo, Beltran, Easley, can you think of others?

  209. Mex_17 says:

Wow, ESPN is as racist as SNY, they have cameras showing Willie in the dugout too. Disgraceful. Poor Willie.

  210. metsfanmurph says:

Who is that lefty warming up in the bullpen wearing #25. Oh its Feliciano I forgot he was on the team.

  211. mets19 says:

Bring in Aaron Heilman so he can “increase” his trade value

  212. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Look, it’s only one game. No big deal. It’s a long season. Just come out and get right back at it tomorrow.

  213. Pacman_Jones says:

I wish Delgado would take Steroids, that way he could either start hitting or get suspended for 50 games. WIN-WIN!!!

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

      LOL!
I think his biggest problem is that he stopped.

    • dr jones says:

Does anyone on this blog tonight think the Mets are giving 100% effort? Just want to see what everyone else thinks.. a yes or no answer will work

  214. tvtechwonv27 says:

IF this Met team was under Bobby Cox do you think he’ll put up with this BS???? NOOOOO… Let’s get BUCK SHOWALTER…

  215. Gina says:

Is anyone else unfortunate to have to listen to this game through the braves announcers? They’ve spent like the last 5-10 minutes talking about how the omar has given the team a definite latin influence and how latin players pout and go over Willie’s head to Omar when Willie says anything to them and how they major problem in the lockeroom is the divide between the white players and latin players because of the attitude of latin players.

    or something like that.

    • gipper82475 says:

Not eactly news. Bernazard has to go too, to allow whomever the new manager is to have some sort of actual authority without being undercut.

    • bluecapsonly says:

I am. see, the Braves annoucers can get away with it because they put you to sleep with their broadcast. You don’t even notice the stupid things they say

      • gipper82475 says:

I synch (it takes some fancy remote/DVR pausing) the Extra innings ATL TV feed with the MLBaudio WFAN feed…so I get pictures with Howie and, sadly, Wayne.

    • Two-By-Four says:

Didn’t last year’s catcher and Wagner essentially say the same thing (until Wags partially had to rescind it under orders to do so).

  216. Airfeet says:

Cant wait till the real world comes on tv

  217. Pacman_Jones says:

Dude shut up with Buck Showalter anybody could be a better manager than Willie, because you couldn’t be worse. Simple logic.

  218. Ludacrispat says:

i swear if i see one mets player in the dugout smiling i will just go nuts. i feel like i care 100x more than these bums whether they win or lose.

and when i think about it- i dont even like this team. willie. heilman. wise. delgado. easley.

2008 seems like a wash. season’s not over, but things are looking very very bad.

  219. AlreadyMissShea says:

    F.U. Larry Jones
    F.U. Mark Opper
F.U. Flea on the cat in the verizon FIOS commercial

  220. metsfanmurph says:

Gina are they really saying that because thats a pretty racist comment?

    • Gina says:

They said there was speculation that this was the problem, and that were there was smoke, lo duca’s comments and wagners comments, there was probably fire.

      • gipper82475 says:

Guys, none of that is news - the whole Bernazard thing has been reported on extensively.

Though, for deep south announcers to talk about it, it may well be racist. ;-) Maybe Bill Webb is directing their broacast tonight just for S & Gs.

      • Two-By-Four says:

So they basically said the same thing I alluded to (I don’t get the Braves feed) but even if you take a best (or worst) case analysis there probably is some truth to what they say.

        • Gina says:

I’m not saying it’s not true, it’s just the way they said it was kind of distasteful.

The media in NYC and up north is probably more honest/blunt, but down here the media really doesn’t talk about subjects like that so abruptly, especially on tv.

  221. SantanaCYYOung says:

calling it early again tonight, don’t think i’ll watch this team for a while. watching the mets was a time for relaxation and fun for me and now it is totally the opposite. will try to stay off the blog for some time, at least not until a change is made.

if people disagree with this decision i understand

  222. willieisterrible says:

    mike pelfrey is the man…..

    NOT!!!!

  223. metsfanmurph says:

I wonder what El Duque is doing right now?

  224. bluecapsonly says:

willie has an absolute scowl on his face. You can see him thinking “thanks a-holes ” about his players.

  225. metsfanmurph says:

Feliciano needs more work.. he is better when is is pitching 3-4 times a week

  226. ryankobayashi says:

Can someone tell me why I should care about this team, when it’s so obvious that THEY don’t care? It’s embarassing to root for this team. I sit here and bleed blue and orange and it just seems that no one on this team does! There is no fire or passion

    • metsfanmurph says:

Ryan I said that repeatedly last year but everytime I try to quit the Mets I can’t, its a sickness.

      • ryankobayashi says:

It is a sickness. I mean I’m still watching this game, despite the fact that I’ve had to hear the chop every inning.

        • metsrule77 says:

pelfrey thru his glove against the wall, Castillo was pissed about not getting tex out and church last night tried to break up the double play, this team cares.

  227. NY Cuban says:

The guys from ZZ Top as our coaching staff?

  228. metsfanmurph says:

I would love to see Joe Smith plunk Larry just to see if this team still has a pulse.

  229. tvtechwonv27 says:

This is Friggin EMBARRASING… If Willie had any balls or Heart He would bring in Heilman and tell him to start throwing at the Braves players… At least that would show the Mets that they are friggin pissed….

  230. WrightsRight says:

braves must absolutely love playing the mets. it’s just way too easy for them, especially at Turner Field.

  231. gipper82475 says:

    Fire everybody.

    Except Bill Webb.

  232. AlreadyMissShea says:

My TV is broken. Right now it’s showing one of the two games from yesterday.

  233. adam11216 says:

Santana’s gonna have to hold them to negative runs tomorrow to avoid the sweep.

    • InsaneMetsFan says:

      LOL….Negative runs, that’s a good one.

    • chew13 says:

Sumthin tells me Santana is gonna catch an L manana. Whether it be by blowout or hard luck loss. I haven’t seen anything in these past three games that tells me we will not get swept.

  234. metsfanmurph says:

Cat and mouse between Willie and Bobby Cox???? That matchup is more like the Roadrunner and Coyote

  235. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Cat and mouse game between Willie and Cox? Ronnie the mouse got bested a long time ago in this one.

  236. tvtechwonv27 says:

    MEET THE MUTTS…

  237. metsfanmurph says:

huh????????????????????? We are walking Omar Infante???????????????????

    • metsfanmurph says:

I apoligize to Willie I didn’t realize Infante was hitting .350 against leftys and Kotsay was hitting .200. Good move

  238. WrightsRight says:

Keith: Mets have four more cracks at the Braves

I wish the Mets were on crack - they’d probably be playing better

  239. SunsetParkBK says:

Hey, remember everyone, the champagne will taste that much sweeter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Mex_17 says:

Willie apologized for playing the Champagne card. He claims he never said it, and if he did, it was off the record. In no way does he condone Champagne, or mean to imply that he has ever had Champagne.

  240. bluecapsonly says:

How happy is Gotay right now…

  241. Danny1986 says:

If I have a plane ticket to fly from ATL to DEN, and I suddenly need to change that itinerary and fly from ATL to NYC instead, will Delta Airlines give me a free transfer, or do I have to buy a new ticket?

    Regards,

    Willie Randolph

  242. Nate W. says:

at some point during the upcoming homestand the Mets will fall to 5 games under .500 and Willie will basically have to be fired. Coming right after those comments, and dropping games left and right…

At least there will be enough season left to make a run at a playoff spot. Hopefully the players will respond quickly to the new voice. I’ve given up hope that they can be even minimally motivated by Willie anymore, ever. Done.

  243. almar1965 says:

Willie is not making it past Memorial Day.

  244. chew13 says:

We’ve scored 4 runs in 23 innings. Willie might have taken some of the heat off with his apology. Which I respect however bottom line is youre judged by wins and losses and how your team plays the game. This team is clearly not getting it done.

    • Nate W. says:

Its almost as though Willie taking the attention on himself has resulted in the usual suspects basically bagging it for the last two days…

hello Carlos’s, hello Luis Castillo… you’re not in hiding!

  245. dr jones says:

anyone on this blog tonight think the Mets are giving 100% effort? Just want to see what everyone else thinks.. a yes or no answer will work

  246. zen says:

the nationals are losing so the mets will stay 4 games out of last place (6 in the loss column).

  247. Airfeet says:

We need to fire willie, get Showalter or any friggan manager that isnt a P**sy, trade Beltran for a couple good minor league prospects..and hope hte team turns around..if they dont…we’ll be rebuilding for the future

  248. Ludacrispat says:

i think there is a time depression gets so bad that it is just laughable, and no matter how bad things are, you find them funny.

    because right now, i’m laughing.

    • metsfanmurph says:

Luda I got that going on too. I think we should get a shrink on this comments section.

  249. metsfanmurph says:

For those keeping track since the Braves took the lead there have been:

    1 Giuseppe Franco commercial
2 Ron Darling Commerce Bank commercials
    0 Met hits

  250. InsaneMetsFan says:

I like Willie and I never like calling for someones job, but someting has too change with this team. They can’t fire the players and they already tried firing the coaches, Willie’s number is up.

    • bluecapsonly says:

I’d rather they fire Castillo and delgado and bring up some youngins no matter how bad they are. At least they’ll hustle

  251. therealsandman says:

guess we can only play the yankees good

  252. NY Cuban says:

Memorial Day BBQ at Shea if he is gone. Who is in? It will mark the re-birth of this team. The exorcism of last year.

  253. SunsetParkBK says:

Does anyone think Willie Randolph / Mets can make a Tom Coughlin / Giants kind of run?

  254. metsfanmurph says:

maybe the Yankees are that bad

  255. IamJohn says:

I knew the Brave’s had solid pitching, Smotz - Glavine, where is Avery?

  256. ryankobayashi says:

The problem with this team under Randolph is that when they get punched in the face, they go down, from Opening Day ‘05 to now. Willie can’t handle adversity. Guess he missed that lesson from Joe…

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Let’s be fair. This team used to be all about the dramatic come from behind wins. Even in 05 when you knew they weren’t winning anything, you couldn’t turn it off because they were never really out of any game. What happened?

  257. metsfanmurph says:

Assuming we lose this one we are a .500 team. Looking at the games we have played we have played:

the Yankees twice without Arod and Posada
the Braves twice without Larry and Escobar
the Phillies five times without Rollins
    the Dodgers twice without Furcal
the Marlins three times without Hermedia
and the Nats twice without Nick Johnson

  258. InsaneMetsFan says:

    OMG…Beltran got a HIT!!!!!!!!!

  259. metsforever says:

Willie, GONE, and soon. If he makes the All Stars, a surprise. The Wilpons are always reading the paper and listening to FAN and they are very sensitive.

But is Omar getting a break here? Half the team have AARP cards and there is no bench whatsoever. The bullpen is horrible and there is nothing in the minors. The Red Sox, another big market, big spending team are bringing up a new star pitcher every day and their bench is 100% better than the Mets.

The trades are about 50/50 and the free agents are mercenaries. Face it, Beltran, Pedro, even Santana are all products of Wilpon cash, not Omar skill.

    • gipper82475 says:

Omar-watch starts the day Willie is gone. And, he already deserves some serious scrutiny. I like the guy, and he has done lots of good. But, the reliance on aged veterans, some head-scratcher moves, and the current obvious lack of team chemistry has to be at his feet.

    • chew13 says:

Im so sick of this argument. Get off Omars jock. He’s provided the horses since he came here. Willie hasnt gotten it done. He’s made a couple of bad moves but his good moves far outweigh the bad. We havent had a better GM since Cashen.

      Maine
      Sanchez
      Church
      Schneider
      Johan

      All had for lesser players.

      • metsforever says:

Didn’t say they were all terrible.

Johan = CA$H If the Sox or Yankees wanted him, he would be in Boston or the Bronx because they have some guys less than 35 that other teams want.

Omar did screw the O’s for Maine, and the jury is still out on the Church/ Milledge deal.

    • chew13 says:

Let me also remind you that Willie chooses who makes this team out of spring training. It was Willie’s decision to keep Easley over Gotay. Moises. Francouer home run excuse me while I go vomit.

      • gipper82475 says:

Hey, I am all for canning Willie, or have you not been paying attention? But, if this team continues to underachieve, one has to question the make-up of the roster and who put it together.

Personally, I’d give Omar time to find a permanent managerial replacement and see how he does in this offseason to re-tool/re-build.

  260. Steve in DC says:

Futurama is hilarious tonight. Bender goes on tour with Beck and so on. Really something to watch…

  261. Ludacrispat says:

sometimes you just have to hit rock bottom before you can bounce back up. maybe being at .500 won’t be the worst thing in the world.

ps- endy chavez and marlon anderson have not gotten hits since the 2006 NLDS, where endy was a met and marlon was a dodger

  262. metsfanmurph says:

Will Delgado K looking or swinging?

  263. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Tell Jimmy Rollins we’re the team to beat

  264. IamJohn says:

    here comes the K

  265. InsaneMetsFan says:

The worst team money could buy….Redux

  266. tvtechwonv27 says:

This Whole Friggin Team needs to get a Beating like the same way Robin Ventura got a beating from NOLAN RYAN…

  267. IamJohn says:

    swinging

  268. metsfanmurph says:

    Gary sounds suicidal

    • gipper82475 says:

      Join the club, Cohen!

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Yeah the guys in the booth are talking about various ways to solve individuals slumps (Beltran, Wright) and have mentioned that getting into a fight might spark the team. It seems pretty obvious that they’re just as disgusted with this team as the average fan is, but obviously knowing who signs their paychecks aren’t going to say anything too venomous.

  269. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

The Mets need a manager like John Gibbons who challenges players to fist fights.

  270. metsfanmurph says:

Is there a worse show in television history than Loudmouths?

  271. SunsetParkBK says:

I’m so sick of being bored watching the Mets. There used to be a time where I got excited come 7PM. Now, i search through the DirecTV lineup for something to fall back on from 7-10PM.

    • Nate W. says:

      yea, its brutal

    • therealsandman says:

the superfan package suits me fine after i change the met game after the first inning

      • SunsetParkBK says:

I have that and it makes me more depressed cause I get to see other teams actually playing like a team! For example, I just put it on and see the Yankees are winning 7-0.

  272. metsfanmurph says:

    plunk him please

  273. khmustache says:

    BEAN HIM FOR GOD’S SAKE!!!!!!!!

  274. ryankobayashi says:

And I’m tired of Willie saying that they’re over September, they’ve moved past it. Really?! Doesn’t look like it… Heilman throws a ball and his shoulders sink like Bob Stanley’s face.

  275. tvtechwonv27 says:

This whole team needs a CAN OF WHOP ASS on their Candy Asses…. Everyone ONE on this TEAM is Soft and it incluedes DAVID WRIGHT who hasn’t done a thing this year…

    • SunsetParkBK says:

and a cup of courage…. Do you know that the woman’s softball team plays harder than the Mets right now!

  276. Ludacrispat says:

    Dear Omar,

You better get that manager of yours out of this town or you’ll be on the first bus back to Montreal (I don’t care if they don’t have baseball there anymore).

    Sincerely,

    Fred Wilpon

PS- I let Jeff type the letter, so he wants to be credited as Vice President of Letters

  277. Mingo says:

I too am getting sick of this team. I watched the Mets through their lean years in the late 70s and early 80s. I watched them through their lean years in the early to late 90s. I watched them through the lean years in the early part of this decade. This team is the least fun to watch.
I will watch American Idol as well. At least the Braves don’t win on that one.

  278. therealsandman says:

the only mets plunk you will see this whole year is the one maine did the game against the Nats

  279. Ludacrispat says:

fire willie and make joan payson manager

  280. metsfanmurph says:

    Lets go Lakers

  281. playmaker3128 says:

Theres a huge problem here, yes we can argue its the players. It obviously is. However we clearly saw last weekend what this team was capable of over the weekend. They played with heart and fire. However they have fallen back into their losing ways. How the hell can you hit andy pettite and chen ming wang and not hit at all of some of these guys the braves have thrown out here.

Fact is, its effort, this team isn’t motivated and can’t handle the pressure of being the favorite. Thats why in 2006 when we were the underdogs we won, thats why last weekend when we went into yankee stadium (where were always the underdog) we played well.

    • WrightsRight says:

And Wright pretty much predicted this would happen after the subway series. He said the Mets had to be careful not lose any momentum, etc. In the deepest depths of his mind he knows this team has a poor makeup and fragile psyche, and can’t even handle the slightest bit of success…

    • chew13 says:

Dont believe the hype over the Yankee series. We beat a bad team in a small ballpark. Honestly if you can’t get fired up for the subway series with the whole city watching then you just dont have a pulse.

  282. ryankobayashi says:

    Hire Isiah!

    • NYwho27 says:

Just think after tomorrow the mets will be under 500. I wish that they would fire Omar for putting together such a soft and unmotivated bunch of individuals.

I would like to blame Willie for this mess (and yes some of his dumb moves have cost us alot of games) but you can’t make chicken soup out of chicken sh*t.

      • Mingo says:

I can make chicken soup like that. My grandmother has the best recipe for Chicken Sh*t Soup.

  283. gipper82475 says:

Tonight is Mets at the Movies night. That must be a dreary and/or hostile atmosphere right now.

  284. khmustache says:

a two out hit?!!! who woulda thought?

  285. Ludacrispat says:

at least the braves are fun to watch

  286. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

    Xbox time.

  287. mark5674 says:

is this the same exact game as the last two? going to end 6-1 or 6-2? damn, i cant even watch this team anymore….

  288. bluecapsonly says:

    say hello .500…

and look forward to .489 tomorrow

  289. tvtechwonv27 says:

Mets Pitchers BETTER START THROWING AT BRAVES HITTERS RIGHT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW….

  290. 1994 says:

Beltran said we’re the team to beat this year….guess he was right as it seems everybody is beating us.

    8-1

    Bye Willie
    Bye Omar

Guess the players can hear the fans booing in NY….since its all the fans fault.

    • gipper82475 says:

And Bill Webb who, after all, is directing tonight, and painting that bad looking team on his canvas.

    • Mex_17 says:

Don’t forget Bill Webb…It’s his fault too.

    • SunsetParkBK says:

What a damn shame……. this is a monumental screw up by the Mets. Way to send a statement guys! The NL east is really scared of us now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  291. ryankobayashi says:

Ah, Jimmy Carter is there. He can teach us about malaise.

    • gipper82475 says:

You beat me to it, was going to write:

      First there was The Collapse.

      Now, we have The Malaise.

Hell, Willie makes Jimmah Carter look like a competent and inspiring leader.

  292. therealsandman says:

    lol francour

  293. IamJohn says:

I think ESPN is putting on a real team and changing games to the Royals

  294. dr jones says:

someone on this blog predicted 9-1.. I thought there was no way in hell that was happening. Especially after yesterday.. Nice work bro.. I’m starting to think It might be a good time to start betting against the mets. They seem like there tanking it..

    • khmustache says:

somebody needs to tell them the bulls already got the first pick

    • metsforever says:

They know that Willie is gone soon. It looks like the team wants it sooner. Next question, Who’s next? Bobby V isn’t coming back during the season, too much honor would be lost and he respects the owner over there.

  295. AlreadyMissShea says:

Maybe the Mets are just jealous of all of the attention Mike Piazza has gotten since he announced his retirement.

Wait a second, he’s not gonna play anymore and everyone loves him! We should try that too!

  296. playmaker3128 says:

You know what i hate about this team right now, they just seem like there fake. Like they refuse to acknowledge there problems. That starts with the manager.

Last september when willie kept saying “itll be the much sweeter when were sipping champagne”This year in the oconner article, at the end of it willie mentions something about not going anywhere (don’t remember the exact quote). Even beltran said at the beggining of the year “were the team to beat”

Its good as a manager to be confident in the team, and still believe. However these are grown men, they know whats going on. I hate when willie acts like nothings wrong when there is. I’m not saying he should panic. I just think its getting a little old. He needs to be more proactive.

  297. stickguy says:

The Braves radio guy, as bad a homer as he is (actually, it was the younger guy, he isn’t as bad) spoted Pelfs problem.

Said he was throwing balls because he wasn’t always bringing his back leg through on his pitches (I remember this well from my son!). But more important, he only did it on his breaking ball.

So, leg comes through, FB. Leg drags, breaking ball. Think the hitters might notice? I won’t ask about the coaching staff!

  298. Sasseroni says:

Outscored 20-4 through the first 24 innings of this 4 game set. Hello .500, goodbye Willie.

Clean house, boys, clean house. Get things in order for 2010, cause next year’s gonna suck, too.

  299. Horseman says:

I am so glad its early in the season. That way, we mets fans can watch this team perform like crap longer.

EVERYONE PLEASE STAND UP AND GIVE YOUR

    A NICE ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

Howie, talking about Piazza and Clemens and the HOF saying he doesn’t think Roger will be going anywhere soon, “the next time he’s throwing a bat around, it may be to break rocks!”

    LOL

At least the early 90s crappy teams were interesting. I hated Vince Coleman and Bonilla, but at least they were doing something. These guys are so plastic and going through the motions that they are approaching unwatchable.

One of the 2008 Mets would shoot a water pistol full of bleach at a bunch of people, have the thing facing the wrong way, and be done for the year.

Depending on who it is, it might not be such a bad idea.

      • ryankobayashi says:

Do you really think they’d be able to hit anyone?

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I have all the confidence in the world in many of these guys’ ability to shoot themselves in the eye.

I have to admit, I hated the Bonilla team more than this team, but it’s starting to get close.

Unfortunate that the broken bat couldnt impale Larry

Hey, Wilpon, don’t even think of sending me a renewal notice. No way in hell i’m paying for season tickets again.

Look at it this way guys, atleast the Mets will suck in a state of the art facility next year!

      You mean “Dodger Stadium East”?

I have tickets in the Ron Cey Bleachers. And I hear that Tommy Lasorda is throwing out the first pitch.
