postGame: Braves 4 Mets 2
By Matthew Cerrone - May 22, 2008 10:00 pm

The Mets (22–23) lost to the Braves (26–21) by the score of 4 to 2 in Atlanta tonight, completing a four-game sweep.

For a boxscore, play-by-play, etc., go to SNY’s Recap Page.

  • Yikes. I mean, yikes. Say it again, yikes.
  • So, the Mets are a below-500 team. I mean, maybe that’s a good thing at this point. Maybe this will act as a bit of cold water – or, I should say I hope it does.
  • A lot of things happened in this game, but what I found most frustrating, was David Wright. He makes a tremendous statement last night, talking about emotion, wanting to win, etc., and then plays a horrible game tonight. In fact, it looked like he was trying to do too much. He had a rough night at the plate, in the field and on the bases, getting doubled-up on first base in the ninth inning on a line drive by Carlos Beltran. I’m not picking on Wright. I mean, every one is entitled to a rough game. He’s my favorite player on the team. I’m just saying, it’s crazy how finally this team gets a player to say the right things, and then that very player struggles on the night. It’s like, they just can’t get it together, even when they’re trying their hardest.
  • I think it may be time to begin Willie Watch, as a four-game sweep and falling below .500 cannot be good.

The Mets travel to Colorado to take on the Rockies tomorrow, starting at 9 pm EDT, with Oliver Perez facing Greg Reynolds.

They better have cops in riot gear at Shea on Memorial Day. Leave the kiddies at home!

      This isn’t fun anymore.

I never thought I’d say that watching baseball wasn’t fun anymore. Thank you Mets.

    • The Stache says:

I think Wright’s comments last night may have changed my entire outlook on this team. In the past, Wright has always seemed to say the right thing and give the good baseball fan answer. Tonight I saw frustration on his face at the plate and in the field. I saw it in Santana’s eyes during the post game. Is getting swept in Atlanta frustrating? Sure it is. Does it look like it is finally changing the dynamic of the team.

For the first time this season, I felt that way tonight. I am tired of talking about how good they are. One thing they have convinced me of is how they are not far and away better than any other team. This losing streak will do wonderful things for getting rid of that false sense of entitlement this team has. I have enjoyed seeing Willie get angry and defensive. I have enjoyed watching the players do it. Life isn’t perfect and baseball sure as hell isn’t. In my eyes, they are caught tough breaks tonight (like Wright getting doubled off first), but they are finally showing emotion and a sign of life.

It kills me to say it, but I sure hope they watched what the Braves did this series. They hustled and thats the way the game should be played, Always. Play hard and good things will happen eventually. Believe you are too good for the game and better than the rest of the NL and 2007 happens.

      • The Stache says:

Ignore the crappy grammar, i’m too tired.

Delgado has to stop giving “I thought we played well and caught tough breaks” line in post games.

You lost Carlos. Take it personally. I know you had the birth of your first child, but you are the Mets first baseman. The fanbase needs your head in the game and we desperately need you to do your job better. Maybe if you admitted to yourself that you can’t do the things you used to, your game would improve. Call Shawn Green, your close personal friend.

(I realize Carlos Delgado isn’t reading this, geez I wish he would though).

    • metsarenogood says:

Man you have to love New York Fans. It is always fire the managers. How about firing some of the non performing players. They play with no emotion, they do not play as a team, and they really do not seem to care if they win or loss. I’m afraid it will be a long time before you see the Mets or Yankees win a world series for a while….

Also, when a team starts throwing at their opponets it shows that they can not win – if it continues, the lack luster stars on the mets will soon be targets of opposing pitchers…

  2. ebelosa says:

It’s not just that we’re losing. I actually hate this team. I don’t enjoy watching games at all, and it’s been a LONG time since that was true..

Willie will be gone by father’s day, and I hope at least some of his players feel a pang of regret that their heartlessness, gutlessness, inability to hit in the clutch, and all around pathetic example of a dead team walking got a good man fired.

  3. Ludacrispat says:

    Matt, cold water?

C’mon, this team is pathetic, man.

  4. dr jones says:

Can you imagine what George or even Hank would of done in this situation. 1980’s George would of driven to Willies house challenged him to a fight after he made those comments. Where are you Wilpon’s? Say something,, do an interview. We want to hear what you have to say!

  5. kd bart says:

When you’re going bad, things like the ninth inning happen to you. You hit a rocket and it turns into a double play. You can’t get out of your own way. When things are going great, you check your swing and you drive in two with a bloop over the third basemen’s head.

    • yawledog08 says:

could not agree more, its a game of streaks and good vs bad breaks. but you also get what you deserve too, play hard and good things will happen. Play sloppy and bad things will happen.

How many “big catches” or plays have neded there games this yr? and last yr. too. remeber when that ball hit second base in the phillies series and wen tright to rollins? How about the Rowand catch, or the willie harris catch?

      Bad Luck Mets?????

    • zeekster says:

Branch Rickey, a Dodger who also broke the hearts of New York National League fans, once said, “Luck is the residue of design.”

This team is poorly designed. Some good parts but not a team. And poorly managed from top to bottom.

    • zeekster says:

Wee Willie Keeler said it best, “Hit ‘em where they ain’t!”

  6. krob4385 says:

I agree. As crazy as it sounds, it is probably time to start the Willie Watch.

What happened to my team? Seriously, this is affecting my general everyday mood.

What the heck happened to my Mets?

  7. crclark79 says:

I’d like to think that there will be a lot said during that long flight tonight.

  8. foghorn says:

    When does football season start?

  9. therealsandman says:

mets get swept in colorado willie is gone before first pitch on memorial day

    • ravin108 says:

I think if the Mets lose the series in Colorado, Willie is gone. It wouldn’t make sense to allow him to return to New York and get embarrassed by the fans.

      What do you think Matt?

    • gipper82475 says:

I seriously think that would be a bad idea. This fanbase needs the catharsis of being able to “welcome” Willei home on Monday. The fanbase’s general hostility this year, I think, is partially because we never had the opportunity last year to vent as there was some hope until the first inning of the very last game.

We need the catharsis Frankly, the reactions and signs will be the most interesting and entertaining day at Shea so far this year.

      • ravin108 says:

Parading Willie out there will do nothing to make the Mets a classy, winning ball club. Letting the fans do that is an embarrassment to New York. As the SNY guys showed tonight, managers don’t last long nowadays in baseball. His club just may be too veteran for him to control.

Willie doesn’t play on the field and while struggles can be attributed to him, its not his fault Delgado sucks, Castillo is a garbage four year contract (how dare Omar give a 4 year contract to an infielder who needs days off every fifth game), and Pedro/Alou/El Duque are always injured. And I’m not calling for Omar to be fired because he is a good general manager. These mistakes on Omars part are disappointing, but don’t nearly explain why the Mets are a .sub 500 team

        • gipper82475 says:

I agree with some of your analysis. Certainly, parading him out there won’t help the team win. BUT, when they failed to hold anybody accountable last year, the fans never had a chance to turn the page and have never had the chance to fully vent. That has led to the underlying hostility at Shea, “boogate,” etc.

I think allowing the fanbase the opportunity to have that communal catharsis will help them turn the page once Willie is gone and give the new guy a bit of time.

This has always been a patient, loyal, “ya gotta believe” fanbase. But this last year has tested that.

Anyway, I won’t cry if we lose the chance for such a catharsis and Willie is fired before the end of the roadtrip. It isn’t crucial – just something to consider.

        • Don Logan says:

I agree with you, man. I too wanted Willie gone Oct. 1. It was obvious to me, and to at least some others, that keeping Willie around would just be a reminder of a tremendous collapse. I can understand the organization not knowing how to deal with it and not wanting to eat Willie’s contract (which he never should’ve been given in the 1st place after 06 loss to the Cards) but he needs to go. Then the rest of the season can be spent assessing how many others must go. I still only want an interim manager. A personality type nothing like Willie. An experienced manager only wanting to help out for the remainder of the year. (Like Jack McKeon did w/ the Florida)
I don’t think next year is as bad as things seem now. You get Delgado, Alou, El Duque & maybe Pedro out of here (and maybe Perez too) and a lot of money is freed up and a good core is still there- Beltran, Wright, Reyes & Santana and even Maine. And wait and see, as soon as Willie is gone- Reyes will suddenly play more consistently.

      • krumbledkookie says:

You know what dude? He may not be a great manager, but he’s a human being doing the best he can. If he’s gonna get fired after Colorado, it’s only gonna kill the poor guy to be paraded out to the Met fans who forget that this is a god-damned game and ask for the guy’s head. Willie grew up a Mets fan and he does not deserve to be stoned to death by the fans because the players have failed to perform. He may have to be fired, but let’s not kill the dude. Let him leave with the dignity of knowing that he tried.

        • ravin108 says:

I also believe that you don’t want people to leave your organization on a sour note. How much more does it pain you when Gotay makes a sour comment when he leaves and then gets a big hit earlier in the season. Or Lastings Milledge getting a few big hits earlier this year.
Willie is a experienced yet relatively young baseball man still. If he is fired, he will join another organization and the Mets will see him again. I don’t want to completely ruin his relationship with the Mets after being a friend to the organization his whole life.

        • gipper82475 says:

I hear what you gus are saying, and there’s merit to it.

I just have greater concern for the fanbase and for the next guy in the manager’s office than for Willie’s feelings.

        • zeekster says:

a game that families spend a couple hundred or more dollars to see

          you might add

  10. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

    KARMA

This just doesn’t feel like it’s gonna be the year boys.

    • miker94 says:

doesn’t feel like it? are you kidding me? it’s not the year, i’d say that’s pretty evident

  11. MetsFan4Decades says:

Nope, nope – not giving in, not giving up. Not going down that road yet. Only TV I enjoy watching anymore are my NY Mets. Waited all damn winter. I just cannot give up.
So can someone fast forward for me to Sep and tell me how this all turns out? Please? Please?

    • krumbledkookie says:

Good for you my friend. You apparently embody that “Ya Gotta believe” attitude, and I give you much love for it.

    • LAS VEGAS METS says:

      phillies 94-68
      braves 81-81
      marlins 78-84
      mets 73-89
      nats 72-90

  12. mrosey says:

This is getting to be embarrassing, but one thing I did notice about David, and maybe it was just an allusion. He did look extremely emotional, a couple of times it looked as if he was almost to the point of tears. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up putting this game on him.

  13. kd bart says:

The first inning and last inning of this series were perfect bookend for this series. The first inning, you have one in and base loaded and hit two line drives that result in outs. How might the series had been different if the Mets had jumped to a 3-0 lead out of the gate in the first game. It set the tone for the series.

The last inning, the last two batters hit line drives that turn into 3 outs killing any chance of a comeback.

  14. The Ghost of Shea Past says:

Enough with the Willie Watch, where is the Minaya watch? The only major league guy we have ready to be called up is Casanova? Is this a joke? Not to mention the Alou and Castillo signings. I will say it again- Minaya should be led out of the Shea executive office in handcuffs for laundering Wilpon’s money in connection with this disgrace of a team.

    • EV says:

Amen, Shea Past. If Willie goes, Omar follows him out the door. How do Mets fans blame Wille for all of this and Omar somehow gets a free pass? He’s the one who put this god awful group of players who show no heart or hustle together. Castillo signing alone gets him fired immediately. I would have loved to see the other offers for Castillo because I guarantee there was no other 4 year offer out there.

      • GravediggerHebner says:

Not that this justifies his contract, but offseason published reports suggested that Castillo had a 3 year offer, from Houston if I remember correctly.

        • Don Logan says:

yes, houston was prepared to give castillo the egregious offer they ended up giving Matsui.

  15. Bobby Bones in SC says:

I won’t give up either, but something needs to change. I just can’t see them turning this around and consistenty playing well without some type of change.

    Change the line-up
Sit someone or send them down
    Take out Willie
Someone go off and start ranting
    Anything

I’m normally not prone to radical change, but the complacency and acceptance of losing is hard to watch.

  16. MetsFan4Decades says:

My Dad – biggest NY Met fan I know. (actually rooted for any team playing the Yankees for the 5 years after National league left NY – rather than ever root for THAT AL team…), calls me every night after the game telling me Willie has to go. And every night I argue, putting the responsibility on the players. But…as he told me tonight ‘ maybe it’s time you saw the light????’

  17. ToastyJoe says:

You wanna sum up the Mets in a single play? Kelly Johnson hits a fairly routine single to center and proceeds to BUST HIS BUTT down the line trying to stetch it to a double. Beltran flubs the ball, leading to an easy double.

When was the last time you saw a Met hustle the way Johnson hustled on that play?

    I’m thinking 2006.

    • GregB says:

every series this site is filled with comments about someone on the team who really hustled and made something happen…i think Met fans are always impressed because we never get to see our players hustle like that.

    • krumbledkookie says:

Endy Chavez earlier in the game.

    • pgiro says:

It’s not in the mets cards this year. Example: When the Braves hustle it work out great for them, when the Mets try to hustle it backfires. Like Reyes trying to take third base and getting thrown out with less than two outs. Like Wright trying to take that extra step advantage and getting doubled off first on Beltran’s shot to second. Etc. etc. etc.

This is what happens when a team is “Pressing” and trying too hard to make things happen rather than letting the game come to them they are up there trying to hit 3-run homers with no one on base. I’ve seen this situation many times before, they’re not playing loose…way too tight. As far as hustle goes, when a team is losing and not clicking on all cylinders it comes across as not hustling or trying hard enough. Trust me, the Mets made planty of bad, bone head plays in the yankees series but winning has a way of “masking” your mistakes. When you’re winning it’s called an agressive play, when you’re losing it called a bad play, lack of focus.

  18. metsfan119 says:

Relax guys, I think the Liberty are starting their season soon.

    • dykstraw says:

joe girardi flipped out on a bad call in the ninth, got thrown out, and the yanks won.

i’m not bringing this up for any particular reason.

      • GenerationQue says:

I just posted this in the game thread but it fits here. Do you think Girardi is reading all the criticisms of Randolph and reacting to them? He’s doing all the things we are begging for Willie to do!

        • Don Logan says:

That crossed my mind. He did that more for show than anything else. To maybe fire up the team for a rally there that happened. And the fans gave him a standing ovation. And I sat there thinking, man, Willie never did that in 3+ seasons. Sometimes you just gotta get run if you’re a manager, whether it’s to fire up the team or defend your player.

  19. 16oz says:

i’m sick of being dejected too , but sometimes its nice to wallow in misery together.

    i cant not be negative

  20. metsfan119 says:

I mean seriously, at a certain point you have to stop getting really upset and find the humor in all of this. This team blows, it’s in complete turmoil, the coaching staff is a mess, and life will go on.

    • seanmcsean says:

So is it a “Mackey Sasser couldn’t throw the ball back to the mound” kind of funny?

      *scratches head*

    • GravediggerHebner says:

      Like Lou Gorman said:
The sun will rise, the sun will set, and I’ll have lunch.

  21. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

At what point will it have to come to for there to be a fire sale?

  22. dwright2 says:

how the hell did this team come a hit away from the world series

  23. MetfanMD says:

The problem is 3 fold -

1 – You have players like Delgado and Castillo who rejected the Mets a few years ago but were eventually traded to the mets by the teams they actually wanted to be with who are hurting the clubhouse. I dont care what anyone says but this clubhouse is a disaster. Players like Wright, and Church are hustlers and have the mentality this team should have. This laid back…im collecting my pay check because im not playing for the team i wanted to with mentality has to go…..it has reflected on reyes and betran as well.

2 – Willie is one of the most stubborn managers I have ever seen. Why not hit and run? Play small ball. Go on a rant after the game and let EVERYONE including the reporters hear it. He isnt a good fit for this team anymore. There is a rift.

2 – Omar has done a horrible job putting this team together. Let the Alou experiment finally end. Hoping a 41 year old will hit .340 for your team for 75 games just isnt going to happen. And we can not wait for Alou to make another come back. Hoping in the off season for Delgado to find himself and tie up first base was another mistake. Hoping pedro will be healthy for a full year is another dream. Hoping El duque would pitch a major league inning was a fantasy. Signing castillo to a 4 year deal was just…one of the biggest mistakes possible. Letting heilman sulk in the bullpen another year? Why not trade the guy….he isnt amazing….we could have gotten something for him. He banked on too many moves going his way. Hoping too many old players would get healthy/find themselves again. Because of this, I feel like reyes and wright are going down a slippery slope. They have no true leadership to follow. No one respects that manager….and there is no veteran leadership on that team.

There is no easy solution to this debacle because you can not point to one easy fixable problem. We need to change coaches to change the personality of this team. But it cant end there. Delgado and Castillo need to go so their strong hold over that clubhouse is over with. And if Omar can do this, then perhaps he can keep his job. We have nothing to lose now. Bring up Carp/Evans from the minors to place first base and left field because that is what they have been playing anyway. I dont want to trade what is an already depleted farm system for Nady or Inge. I still have hope for this year….but changes have to be made…..and I want a team I can root for. As of right now I can only find 3-4 players on this team that I can actually root for…the rest are just there to collect pay checks. I miss the mets from the late 90s and early 2000s that hustled and played defense. Those were teams to root for. The mets need to find heart.

  24. SunsetParkBK says:

Gas prices are unbelievably high, airlines are charging $15 to check in one bag, pizza prices have increased across the board, and the Mets are just plain awful. What a wonderful time to be alive!

  25. Bobby Bones in SC says:

I’m surrounded by Braves fans as well and it sucks. You have to like and respect their players, but I just can’t like the organization.

    Something to think about…

The starting line-up tonight did not have any a hitter above .286. WOW. The line-up collective BA and run production is terrible. No wonder we can’t score more than two runs.

Willie may get the axe, but the players need to perform. If it takes Willie getting it, then let it happen!

  26. PAPDOG67 says:

It might be a Memorial day to remember at Shea if we get swept up in Colorado. If Isiah thought the “fire Isiah” chants were bad at MSG he should come Monday to hear the “fire Willie” chants rain down from the stands at Shea……assuming Willie is asked to report to work Monday.

  27. wa2k99 says:

I know Delgado homered. But come on. He cannot move and he gets all chummy with Larry after he gets another hit against us. Trade him at the deadline for some prospects, someone will take chance on him for the end of the season. Trading Delgado would do wonders, at least for the clubhouse.

    • pgiro says:

Delgado is a cancer in that clubhouse. I’ve lost all respect for this guy. Do you know what’s one of the best ways to deal with a tumor? That’s right, cut it out.

Does any one else notice that the only time you see Delgado in a post game interview it just so happens that he hit a home run in the game? Hey carlos, how about showing some guts and do a post game on a night when you go 0-4 with three strike outs.

      nah……………..I didn’t think so.

  28. SunsetParkBK says:

Its gotten so bad that I have to take a Unisom just to go to sleep. I have no way to vent my anger every single night. Its just too much.

  29. fortleemets says:

Ok…Can we please take a breather and please be somewhat rational? First off, I keep hearing this “Fire Willie” nonsense, but haven’t heard any logical replacement (I actually heard Keith Hernandez, which, as we know, could not manage 162 games in New York). Secondly, this should fall on the players. I don’t think we care that the lose…that will happen, even to the best teams. It’s that it appears as though they don’t hustle (it was nice to see Reyes booking it tonight). I want to see emotion and I want to see some gloves being thrown in the dugout. Although I am not a Willie hater like every one, I think that Willie has completely taken the emotion out of these players who, until very recently, we very lively. That might have as much to do with US, yes US, after we were complaining last year that their antics and dugout dances were unprofessional and possibly gave the Marlins some credence to kick our butts in the last game — I think we can all agree that we’d like to see some Lastings Milledge swagger.

If you give up, you’re not a true Mets fan. We have been through, much, much worse. There were days, very recently in fact, when being 1 game below .500 was good. I’m not saying that the Mets aren’t playing to their potential, but stop spazzing. I said in the offseason that signing Johan and Castillo were bad trades, both financially and for the clubhouse…but now we have to live with it.

    • NM_Mets_Fan says:

I don’t think the Johan trade was bad. I DO think it was bad to sign Castillo to 4 years. What was Omar thinking?!

    • SunsetParkBK says:

Excuse me! WE were not complaining about the celebrations…. that was the idiots who call themselves analysts and journalists.

  30. thestache says:

I was at the game tonight sadly….Didnt know I could feel this bad watching the Mets. I knew they were going to lose and yet stil held out hope and got burned.

I’m taking the weekend off at least. Hopefully Willie will be gone by then..It’s just no fun anymore

  31. dykstraw says:

delgado: “we played some good baseball”

  32. DMAT89 says:

I cant help but laugh at some of the comments from people…without Hojo working with Wright and Church…Church isnt having the year hes having and wright turned it on when hojo started working with him last year and should of had an MVP title because of it. The problem with this team is they are too laid back and old, its as simple as that. Look at the dodgers and Diamondbacks, both young and have some “spunk” to them, and look at how good theyve been playing. If willie goes, omar has to go with him, Willie can only be as good as the players hes givin, and Omar is giving him pathetic washups while building a poor farm system. In my opinion Omar needs to go even more then Willie, but i think the whole coaching staff needs to go with the exception of Hojo and maybe the jacket. The team needs a new face…new blood, this old veteran way isnt working too well so until the mets replace Alou…delgado…castillo…Even schneider… the team isnt going to go anywhere.

    • NM_Mets_Fan says:

Didn’t we just go through a major revamp 3 years ago? Or has it been longer?

I agree. We need some players with some fire in their belly. Someone willing to go out there and smash you in the face for looking at him the wrong way. Hard, tough players. I would also really love to see Bobby V come back…

  33. K_Chub says:

How does it feel to know you suck Mets fans!!! Overrated sacks of Sh#t! Get use to the cellar of the NL East you’re gonna be there for awhile. Losers!!!

    • SunsetParkBK says:

Don’t forget Braves fans,…… Braves can’t win down the stretch. Remember what the Mets did last year down the stretch to those loser Braves…. SWEPT! Its MAY. Still alot of baseball to play so I’ll hold off on your immature comments untill later in the year.

    • c.1970 says:

You sound rather sick and bitter for a “winner.” If your team won the WS, would you stick a needle in your eyeball for fun?

  34. fortleemets says:

PLEASE STOP SAYING “X NEEDS TO GO, Y NEEDS TO GO.” PLEASE PROPOSE SOME SORT OF TRADE OR MAKE SOME SORT OF DEAL. Yes, I’d like Albert Pujols too, but that’s not happening. Make some sort of educated assessment of the team and what is out there. People on this board sound like cyber versions of Joe Benningo.

    • Mex_17 says:

You miss the point. I don’t CARE who is the interim 2008 manager. I don’t CARE what scrub we get to play 1B for the rest of the year.

I hate Delgado, and I hate Randolph, and I never want to see them disgrace a Mets uniform again.

That alone will make me 100% happier to watch and support this team.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Delgado needs to go. For NOTHING. Addition by subtraction. Does that work for you?

Don’t take it out on your fellow fans.

Fire. Willie. Now. At least we now can recognize one positive aspect to the Collapse. The season ended. We’ve got four more months to live with this steaming pile.

  35. DeeEdge718 says:

Delgado shut up please you hit a hr and you wanna comment now just go … Hide like you always do i rather you do that than you open your mouth and say non sense ..

did any body watch yankees highlights .

Willie take a page from your buddy Joe G , you can go off on an ump if he blows a call or just to get your team inspired so they can win a close game you kno .

He went off on an ump and they won the game ..

Better start trying what you can at this rate you don’t have long ..

  36. K_Chub says:

The Mets always choke when they play the Braves….nothing has changed. The mets are scared of Atlanta and play like a bunch of sissies – meanwhile Atlanta man’s up and finds ways to win. Of course it helps when you have Chipper Jones who rises to the occasion unlike your golden child David Wright who never seems to get the job done when the team really needs him to. The Mets are GARBAGE!

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Didn’t the Mets sweep a 3 game series to end the Braves playoff hopes in September of last year?

    • therealsince86 says:

What was the Mets record vs. the Braves the last 2 seasons?

    • tvtechwonv27 says:

To be HOnest I don’t ever remember David Wright ever getting a MONUMENTAL big Clutch HIt… If Chipper was 5 years younger I’d trade Chipper for Wright in a heartbeat… He was friggin horrible in the playoffs in 06 and if he hit a lick the METS would’ve made the WS that year… D wright has not proven he is money player….

  37. tvtechwonv27 says:

There’s only ONE MANAGER out there that can save these mutts from themselves… BUCK SHOwalter….

    • Don Logan says:

someone else said u’re a Yankee fan w/ nothing better to do than come on here. With each post you make that seems to be proving itself out.

  38. K_Chub says:

The Mets can’t make any trades. Nobody wants Delgado – NOBODY, you are stuck with that bum and your genius of a GM signed Luis Castillo to a 4 year contract. What an idiot!!! It’s no wonder you suck. You are a poorly run franchise. More money than Brains.

    • frustratedReyes says:

The civil war still bugging you huh? Go lynch someone, you’ll feel better

    • seanmcsean says:

I think we can safely conclude that K_Chub has to troll a Mets fan site because nobody cared enough to create a Braves fan site.

It’s ok ‘lil guy.. Let the tears flow.. We’re here for ya buddy.

      *group hug*

  39. Church4prez says:

2 guys on this team are a disgrace and must go IMMEADEATELY. DELGADO AND CASTILLO!!!!!!!! OUT!!!!!!!!!!

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Delgado will be gone after this year. Castillo is a tougher scenario. It’s gonna be hard to find a taker for him and his 4 year albatross contract.

    • tvtechwonv27 says:

2008 Mets have no Heart… They played more than 1/4th season and haven’t had a comeback after 8 innings… That right there shows the boys are really girls in that locker room and have no GUTS…. Every Single One of them… This team is Gutless as it gets…

  40. K_Chub says:

Nobody can save the Mets. They SUCK!!! Overpaid girly men. The Braves are just too good for them. You had your little moment and you blew it – now it’s time for the Braves to take over and the Mets to start being the Mets. Losers!!!

    • toomanyuniforms says:

      Go brush your tooth

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

        HAHAHAHA !!

Yeah, nighty-night, pal. Past your bedtime, I think. Oh, and don’t forget to take your meds…..

    • therealsince86 says:

I would say for you to go back to your own blog but I guess that would require you guys to have more fans than just you and a couple of sheep.

    • seanmcsean says:

So are they spelling Atlanta “FLA” in the standings right now? If not, you aren’t in first either there champ.

Last time I checked, those pesky Marlins were in first place, and the Braves wouldn’t even get the wild card.

    • SunsetParkBK says:

Still bitter we ended your 2007 bid for the playoffs. Understandably. We’ll do it again in 2008.

  41. SunsetParkBK says:

Funny how Braves fans have to come into the Mets blog for some action. I hope the Braves enjoy their last year with Teixeira.

  42. MetfanMD says:

You cant fire Omar and then find a new GM to change everything….you let Omar try to fix this mess and if he cant….fire him at the end of the season and let a new GM shape this team in the offseason…you can however try to change the clubhouse mentality and change some of the players and the manager. Granted this isnt JUST willies fault, but he has a hand in whats going on. I said it MONTHS ago (hindsight 20/20)…..Willie DID take the emotion out of this team…but does that give the players the right to play soft?…you can try to teach players the fundamentals and remind them….but if they wont listen then whats the point….the braves players listen to bobby cox….they respect him…do you think castillo and delgado respect willie?….do you think willie can take out his wolrd series ring and get those guys to respect him?….They can have team meetings until they turn blue….it wont change the fact that castillo throws his arms in the air after making a bone headed play throwing the ball the home plate instead of first and then glaring at schnieder…tell me you cant call up a player from the minors to hit .220 and 5 home runs …… i understand he makes 16 million….but at this point whats more important to the wilpons…putting a team together that the fans will root for in citi field…or putting team out there that is pissin off fans…ive never been one to booo….but man….i would like to be there on monday…..just to hear it….

  43. Church4prez says:

GO BACK TO HIBERNATION YOU TROLL.

  44. metschick says:

At least the Yankees are in last place!
Has anyone else noticed how ridiculous Carlos Beltran’s highlights look???

  45. DeeEdge718 says:

And the worse of it they mad Glavine make them look like a minor league team … are you kidding me . he couldn’t get the marlins out last yr . Now hes on the braves hes the 1998 glavine hahah . wow

  46. K_Chub says:

Lat year with Teixeira??? I wouldn’t be so sure about that, and I am sure Tex enjoys playing for a winning ballclub. As opposed to the dysfunctional losers called the Mets. Besides Tex isn’t hispanic, Omar isn’t about to sign a non-hispanic not named David Wright.

    • therealsince86 says:

So you think that your cheap franchise is going to pay Tex? Come on, how long have you been a Braves fan?
Again, go out and start your own blog, once you find 13 braves fans you can come back and let us know.

    • frustratedReyes says:

The braves aren’t winning anything this year either…….go jack off to your stars and bars

    • blains2000 says:

Um no, he and his agent like money. Which the braves don’t spend because they never sell out a friggin game.

      So bye bye Tex.

    • SunsetParkBK says:

Teixeira is gone. No chance to re-sign him. NO CHANCE…. Braves have nowhere near the cash Teixeira is going to demand. Sorry, that’s what happens when you’re a small market team.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Wow. Way to chisel every stereotype about hayseed Atlantans into granite. Wrench your thumb from your arse and go back to your TiVo’ed WWE highlights, you redneck lump of Skoal-scented feces.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Baseball players like money dumbass. Maybe if the Braves could get their front-running fans to show up for games (or playoff games) they could afford him next year. Trust me, he’s not gonna turn down an extra couple mil for the chance to play in front of “K-Chub.” That is for certain.

      • swilkerson71 says:

Actually the Braves will have plenty of money to resign Texiera.

        Hampton 15 mil
Glavine 9 mil (assuming he retires)
Smoltz 12 mil (assuming he retires)

Thats 15-36 million the braves will have to spend next year.

The only way they dont sign Texeria is the Braves dont like putting all that money into one player and overpay when you can get 3 or 4 really good players for that kind of money.

  47. NegativeFan says:

I gotta tell you……I totally blew off the game and I couldn’t be happier.

Anyone wants to play GTA4 during the next Mets game, let me know.

  48. K_Chub says:

I don’t think there is anything better than hearing all you Mets fans crying about your team. What a bunch of losers!!! You have the highest payroll in the NL and you suck!!!! Your players just go through the motions they don’t even care. They must be really proud to play for the Mets. I am sure they are collecting a paycheck and dreaming of the day they can play or a real team. Not a team that borrows all their traditions from other teams.

    • seanmcsean says:

Says the man who cheers for a team who stole the Tomahawk chop from Florida State U.

    • frustratedReyes says:

hahahaah yea cuz Atlanta is such a tradition rich sports city……the hotbed for AIDS

      • blains2000 says:

Yeah, all their sports teams are awesome and they win a championship in one sport almost every season.

Oh, wait you said Atlanta. No, they suck and never sell out. Must be more fun making out with your sister than going to games.

    • therealsince86 says:

How many WS have the Braves won? That’s great.

  49. frustratedReyes says:

It’s going to be funny seeing texeira in pinstripes…..royal or navy blue.

  50. losmets5 says:

This is what needs to happen very, very soon:

    LINEUP: ROTATION:
    Jose Reyes Johan Santana
Ryan Church Pedro Martiinez John Maine
    David Wright John Maine
    Carlos Beltran Oliver Perez
    Carlos Delgado Mike Pelfry
    Brian Schneider
    Angel Pagan BULLPEN:
    Luis Castillo Joe Smith
    Pitcher Matt Wise
    Duaner Sanchez
    BENCH: Pedro Feliciano
    Endy Chavez Scott Schoenweis
    Damion Easley Billy Wagner
    Ramon Castro Aaron Heliman
    Fernando Martinez
    Marlon Anderson

Pagan and Martinez need to come back fast. I love Alou, but I think he’s done. Castillo needs to be at the bottom for good and Church needs to stay in the 2 hole. During the off season, the mets need to:

    > Sign Mark Texeira
    > Re-sign Pedro and Perez
    > Make Lee Mazzilli the manager(Only person I could think)

    For now, they need to:
    > Take pitchers out when they start to lose it
    > Stop being doubled off
    > Start rallying when they’re losing
    > Coming back after lost leads
    > Stop losing leads

A lot of this is much easier said then done. I am so mad that they completely erased this weekend. I think God hates the Mets and thier fans.

    • fansince62 says:

      Suggested Solutions:

Fire Omar – Hire Gerry Hunsinker
Fire Willy – Hire Ken Oberkfell
      Fire all Coaches
      Release Delgado
Heilman and Pelfrey to New Orleans

      • GravediggerHebner says:

I didn’t think I’d make it down this far and find something so…rational.

I wonder if Heilman has options remaining.

I also wonder if going from a former Yankee player manager to a former Cardinal/Braves player manager will sit with the fanbase. It’s unfortunate that the realistic pickings of former Mets to manage are so slim.

        But otherwise I’m with you.

  51. tvtechwonv27 says:

YOu gotta Love Larry… Here’s a guy who’s going to have more than 3000 hits 500 home runs will go down as one of the Greatest 3B just stomp the sheet out of the METS… It’s been fun watching Larry pound the METS year after YEAR… I wish D Wright can do the same thing to the Braves… :(

  52. Mingo says:

    Ravin108
You said the exact biggest problem with this team. It is too veteran for Willie to control.
DWright hinted at it when he said that guys should care when they get beat like that but they just let it go.

  53. SunsetParkBK says:

Anyway, enough chat about the Braves (who we all know are not going to make the playoffs)

  54. K_Chub says:

Something you Mets retards don’t know is that this is the last year the braves have to pay that thief Mike Hampton any money. He accounts for 15 million of the Braves payroll and does nothing. Essentially he is the highest player on the team and he hasn’t pitched since 2005. He is without a doubt the biggest reason the Braves haven’t been as competitive the past 2 seasons.

After this year that bum will be gone and the Braves will have that extra 15 milion and if they want to they will Tex for a long-term deal at around 20-22 million anually.

    • SunsetParkBK says:

Not going to happen. You can keep dreaming though, nothing wrong with that. You can’t outbid the NY teams. Besides, his sister lives in NJ. Sorry, its pretty much written in stone.

      • swilkerson71 says:

Yeah and he played college ball at Ga tech and loves ATL. PLus I think this series all he had to do is look over at that dugout and realize he doesnt want to be a part of that trainwreck.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Whatever dude. We are still paying Mo Vaughn. What else you got?

    • therealsince86 says:

And like always they will just eat that money.
You do know that the Mets don’t really have a budet (that’s what happens when you have a lot of these things called FANS) and have about 40 million coming of the books.

    • frustratedReyes says:

and its also the last year for giambi, abreu, pavano, among others, and they’ll pay 30 million a year to get texeira so have fun outbidding the yankees….

  55. Joe D says:

Some of you guys are nuts!

  56. teufelshuffle86 says:

I’m currently owning “K-Chub” in the “Mets are done” thread in anyone cares to join in….

  57. Joe D says:

    Where’s the outrage!!!!

  58. K_Chub says:

I don’t know if God hates the Mets and their fans, but man you sure are some pathetic losers.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

And you are a Braves fan hanging out in a Mets website. Who’s the pathetic loser now?

    • frustratedReyes says:

god isnt real k chub…..just because a voice told u to kill black people, doesn’t mean he is real.

      • GravediggerHebner says:

thanks man, that’s the first time I’ve smiled since the 7th inning.

  59. MetfanMD says:

hey anyone remember how many championships the braves have won in the last 40 years?

  60. hello says:

I just love how you Mets fans can only talk about how you ended our hopes last season. Did you forget your team had one of the biggest, if not the biggest, chokes/collapses of all time last year. Keep hating the Braves all you want, you just got swept plain and simple. BTW, Castillo is one heck of a player, nice signing!!

    • toomanyuniforms says:

“Jus’ the GOOD OLE BOYS. . . . Never meanin’ no HARM!!”

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Where did the Braves finish in regards to that “historic collapse”? They must’ve finished ahead of them for you to make a post like that, right? The Braves finished ahead of the Mets last year, right?

    • blains2000 says:

That was one year. What’s your excuse for thirteen years of chokes?

    • seanmcsean says:

How about having the best pitching staff in Major League Baseball for over a decade and only winning one World Series.

How about having the best winning percentage in baseball for almost a decade and only winning one World Series.

      We had one bad September.

You guys had a bad DECADE.

    • therealsince86 says:

This is great we have found almost all 13 Braves fans. Keep this up and someone might try and make a Braves blog for you to go to.

      • blains2000 says:

This is great. Now we can send them all a virus and take down the internet in the whole south.

        • therealsince86 says:

But they don’t want the flu, it would hurt cotton production.

        • swilkerson71 says:

You guys comments about the South are really sad. Its the kind of ignorance that sadly is evident on both sides.

      • Lets_Go_Mets says:

It’s really sad for the frontrunning Braves fan. TBS dumped the Braves, so they actually have to pay for MLB Extra Innings now.

    • SunsetParkBK says:

but wasn’t at the hands of the Braves, now go wank your cow……..

  61. Sasseroni says:

Omar’s insanely overrated anyway. Just look at the horrors he did to the Expos/Nationals franchise. I mean, both of those Colon trades basically killed them for 10 years. Not having a loaded Nats team with guys like Lee, Sizemore and Phillips is actually the best move he’s ever made for the Mets.

But hey, it’s awesome he brought Tatis back in from those days. 2 grand slams in an inning 20 years ago is an awesome reason to keep a has been on a ML bench.

Regardless, it’s time to clean house. Say goodbye to Omar, Willie, the coaches, everyone. Ditch Delgado, toss Endy, bury Anderson, etc. Knock some heads together, take some names and kick some a…….

    • LAS VEGAS METS says:

omar needs to release delgado eat the dam contract.release tatis easley and anderson enough of these guys .we have no bench we have no leadership. the season is over who we kidding the phillies are way better then us hammels is just as good santana.its time to deal beltran back to the stros for pence and a couple of minor leaguers enough of this team. no guts at all on this team .its time maybe for someone to tear up a clubhouse or even a watercooler . come on enough omar your done also. WHERE IS DUDE STEARNS

  62. ubernes says:

Beat the Mets, beat the Mets! Come out to the park and sweep the Mets!

  63. hello says:

how about having terrible teams since I dont know say 1986 – I can honestly say I would rather watch the Braves win all year long and lose in the playoffs than suck and never have a team good enough to compete for 20 years. Must be hard to sleep some nights??

    • therealsince86 says:

Yup, even worse to see your team finish behind them for the last 2 years.
Besides that, do you even remember how horrible the Braves were before that run, they were the true laughing stock of baseball.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

I would rather you stop posting from the double-wide.

    • blains2000 says:

Not really. I have a house not a trailer. Oh, and I sleep with a woman who is not related to me. So it’s pretty easy actually.

    • Mex_17 says:

I’d rather live in a house with indoor plumbing, so I sleep fine thanks.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Typical Braves attitude. “I would rather lose in the playoffs every year”. No wonder you can’t get a ticket to a Braves playoff game.

  64. frustratedReyes says:

Anyone now wish the Union had just let the south secede?

  65. MetfanMD says:

Its funny how fans of a team that has won less championships than we have in the past 40 years come onto a website for the team they think is inferior…..yet has won more championships….

Its kinda sad how they dont have their own website to go on and post….but maybe thats because they dont have enough fans to have a website for fans to post on….i feel bad….and if you braves fans dont think Tex isnt going to be a yankee next yr your DREAMING….and if you think your organization is going to pay any player 20 million per yr…..thats just plain delusional……lol…

    • Catz says:

We do have a “website to go on and post”, several actually… Bravesjournal.com i think is the best… It’s kind of like this, except more civilized

  66. hello says:

probably not as bad as its been for you guys finishing behind us for the 14 before that

  67. frustratedReyes says:

And when braves fans mean “dog fights” they mean arguments between black folks…..real nice people they got there in the south.

  68. IHateGlavine says:

“McGlinchy staring in, has his sign. The 2-1 pitch. And a drive in the air to deep right field…That ball is headed toward the wall…That ball is outta here! Outta here! A game winning grand slam home run off the bat of Robin Ventura! Ventura with a grand slam! They’re mobbing him before he can get to second base! The Mets have won the ballgame!”

“Lopez wants it away…and its hit deep to left center..Andruw Jones on the run …this one has a chance! HOME RUN!..Mike Piazza, and the Mets 3 to 2!”

“Little roller up along first…behind the bag! It gets through Buckner! Here comes Knight, and the Mets win it!”

“Struck him out! Struck him out! The Mets have won the World Series! And they’re jamming and crowding all over Jesse Orosco! He’s somewhere at the bottom of that pile. He struck out Marty Barrett. The dream has come true! The Mets have won the World Series, coming from behind to win the seventh ballgame.”

Aah…good times. All we have now are our memories.

  69. hello says:

yeah congrats you’ve got 2 to our 1 – sooo much better. When was your last and when was ours

  70. miker94 says:

it’s funny, seems every night we all get on here and you can really sense the frustration from the fans. we all say how bad things are, and that it can’t get any worse. yet somehow the mets seem to prove us wrong and the very next day, they play even worse, with even less heart, even more mentally incapable, even more physically incapable and with even less fire. just when we think it can’t cant even worse, they do just that. it’s like a landslide and i can’t even imagine what else is to come. in fact i’m scared. regardless of what everyone thinks of willie, or omar, or hojo etc. there is no doubt that something, and something BIG, absolutely must happen to this team, or else there is no question whatsoever that the 2008 mets will be a below .500 team for the remainder of the season with essentially a 0% chance of making the playoffs. and anyone who disagrees or who thinks i’m crazy, well, you just may be blind my friend and I feel for you because you are in for a very, very rude awakening!

    • blains2000 says:

C’mon dude. It’s much more fun rankin’ on the braves trolls.

      • toomanyuniforms says:

Exactly. They make the Phils fans sound like Tom Wolfe. Education really isn’t a priority down there, is it?

  71. MetfanMD says:

epic mets collapse = 1 month
epic braves collapse = 14 years

  72. therealsince86 says:

Hey Braves fans, if you guys are done with your sheep for the nite I would like to count a few. It’s time for me to go to sleep. Yes, you do have to clean them off first.

  73. hello says:

so are we now counting NL East titles? good job in 1988 and 2006, I forget how many we had in that stretch

    • therealsince86 says:

So no we are counting titles, how many WS have you won? You know you can go around in this circle all you want.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

No, we’re not counting NL East titles. You’re going away.

    • blains2000 says:

We could even move on to other sports like football or hockey if you want.

      • blains2000 says:

In what category would you like to shown to be inferior?

      • therealsince86 says:

Don’t bring up football, it’s sensitive for them. They are STILL trying to figure out what to do with the Vick camo jersies they have.

    • Mex_17 says:

We’re arguing with a dude wearing a rope belt.

  74. stickguy says:

Simple recap of the week in Atlanta.

Mets were out coached, out prepared, out hustled, out performed, and out focused in every facet of the game.

That, and the team on the field today could only marginally be considered ML quality overall. At least 3 guys of the 8 probably aren’t good enough to be on a ML roster at this piont, and another one really stinks, but might qualify as a back up for some teams.

  75. AlreadyMissShea says:

I don’t mean to interrupt, but did anyone see that Omar relayed a message to Willie that the Wilpons want to meet with him when they get back to New York on Sunday night? I didn’t see it anywhere here today.

  76. Mex_17 says:

Off topic, but remember 20 years ago, almost every single NL park was a giant round cookie cutter stadium with artificial turf?

It’s funny that Shea is the very last of those stadiums to survive, and it seems almost retro to me now. It’s the last example of that style of park.

  77. deloid says:

    Hey Matthew,

    Your comment about Wright :
“In fact, it looked like he was trying to do too much. ”
Is spot on. Poor guy is trying too hard. It’s almost like he’s trying to shoulder the whole load.

The difference between him and Church is that Church plays tough and looks like he’s just trying to get his job done (and doing well at that!)
Wright doesn’t seem to know that he can’t carry the whole team. I think he needs to stay focused on his own play, within his usual confort zone. Wright, for awhile was doing the same thing batting. He was taking humongous off balance swings as if he were trying to “fix” things with one shot.

He needs to relax (watch how relaxed Chipper is at the plate).

I think very highly of the Mets players that seem to be torn up about the gears not catching on this machine. having said that though I would prefer that they take care of themselves emotionally while some magic gets the rest of the team going.

This will be a long season if this continues but I’m actually more worried about next year.

    • tvtechwonv27 says:

Wait if David WRight is struggling and not running out fly outs and getting caught napping on line drives it’s because he’s trying to hard… And if Carlos Beltran and Delgado struggles it’s because they don’t care… Give me a Break…

  78. No Play For Mr. Gray says:

You know what bothers me the most? The Mets blew a seemingly insurmountable lead last year… and didn’t learn a thing from it. Meanwhile, how many of us will never follow sports the same way again?

I know it isn’t the case, but it really does seem like the losses bother the fans more than they bother the players.

  79. rgreebel says:

I do not think I have ever been this frustrated with a sports team in my life.

My only hope is that 2008 is that exact opposite of 2007 and we finish strong after a slow start. With this manager I am not sure it can happen.

  80. MeesesGlokmah says:

Don’t worry guys. It’s all part of the plan.

They’ll lure every opposing team into a false sense of security, then after the All Star Break, they will dominate everyone. During the first half of the season, they will see the best of every team, then learn from that in order to take over during the second half. This is my crazy conspiracy theory of why major changes haven’t been made. Everyone is in on the plan, with Willie and Omar as the main conspirators.

It’s just crazy enough to work!

  81. metsfanmurph says:

Did Willie resign Castillo when David Eckstein was exactly what this team needed?

Did Willie trade Bannister, Heath Bell, and Matt Lidstrom?

Did Willie sign Alou who can’t walk to his car without getting hurt?

    • MeesesGlokmah says:

      No, Omar did. Good point.

    • Don Logan says:

Eckstein wanted 10 million per. (And didn’t truly want to change positions) The same people crabbing about Castillo’s deal right now would be crabbing about Eckstein’s deal.

  82. beef says:

i hate to say it but this team is DONE, now the question is what to do to fix the mets for next year. There aren’t to many players that i wouldnt trade, everybody besides d wright, r church, c beltran j santana and j main should be on the market.I think that you can stil get a good young pitcher for reyes someone like a matt cain or edwin jackson, oliver perez also has value you could get some prospects from a contender.I would even trade wagner who you could get some good prospects in return for. Also OMAR needs to get rid of the likes of chavez and anderson and bring up some young talent in there place.I dont care if they are 22 or 21 guys like evens and carp would give this team some life

    • Don Logan says:

edwin jackson for reyes? Do you have a brain? One team, 1 million GM’s was right.

  83. Roach2 says:

Wow…looks like the waffle house is losing business tonight.

Driving down to Florida many times in my youth, you know how we always knew we were in Georgia? The SMELL….picture low tide by the willets point bay and double it….it was awful.

Braves fans: enjoy this night. Enjoy every second you get a rise out of us Mets fans. Enjoy talking nonsense and pretending you’re better than everyone on this site. And i really hope your team (along with the rest of the NL) thinks the Mets are done. Because when Omar/Wilpons do whatever they have to to make this team right (and dont you DARE doubt that they will), you’re team is in for a lot of trouble. Be confident now…go right ahead….i sure as hell was all the way up to the end of september.

This team is playing like a bunch of scared minor leaguers….something needs to be changed and for someone who has vehemently (braves fans, don’t think too much on this one…it may hurt) defended Willie….it is time to let the man go BEFORE he comes to shea….he doesn’t deserve the reaction he is bound to receive…I want this more than anything because it will force Omar to make necessary moves (which hopefully will translate to cutting ties with Delgado and Castillo)…the bullseye will be on Omar, and believe me, this will be a good thing for everyone involved.

Braves fans: enjoy your night…this night on May 22nd. I’m going to catch some sleep for my great job in the Empire State Building while you get ready to grease some pigs and maybe the grill at Dennys, you inbred, gap toothed, half witted yokels

    • swilkerson71 says:

And i have been to NYC and couldnt believe people actually live like that. I wondered why everything smelled like urine then i saw a bum pissing himself. AHA

  84. IHateGlavine says:

I wish Omar would trade Willie to the Angels for the Rally Monkey

    • IHateGlavine says:

Oh yes I agree with myself on this one. Then maybe he could trade himself to Texas for a pouch of chewing tobacco.

  85. Roach2 says:

Did someone turn the lights on??? Where did all these cockaroaches go? And no…i dont want to hear any jokes about my name!!! :-)

  86. EliPorter says:

fire willie. we want barry lamar

    • swilkerson71 says:

Braves record vs mets since 1991

      152-107

We own you guys. Get over it.

  87. Lets_Go_Mets says:

I get the feeling that they kept Willie Randolph around just so they could have him as a scapegoat for this season if things went wrong again. Omar is next.

  88. bigmetsfan88 says:

why do you care what Matt wrote? Why does what Matt wrote matter?

  89. tvtechwonv27 says:

Wright needs to get hammered also for his lack a dazical play… Not running on a pop up falling a sleep on the basepads… When was the last time Wright got a Big Hit this year for the METS…. and MVP pleaaaaaase didn’t you just watch CHIPPER JONES play this whole series??? I love the METS ,but I’m sorry Everyone is getting Hammered…

  90. seanmcsean says:

    I agree wholeheartedly.

We could get a whole box of baseballs, and perhaps a 6 pack of Budweiser for Alou.

  91. krumbledkookie says:

It took a lot of guts to write all that, didn’t it?

    Joke.

  92. Lord Charles Curveball says:

David Wright over rated? I guess 3 straight 100 plus RBI seasons before your 25th birthday don’t mean anything?

Jose Reyes wants to be on dancing with the stars? He’s been on base in 21 straight games. The guys behind him have to drive him in. Is he dominating…no, but is he the major problem…not even close.

Where do some of you come up with this.

  93. SunsetParkBK says:

No team has ever won with Alou. And you wonder why…………

  94. WrightsRight says:

    the ‘97 marlins did, i believe…

  95. gipper82475 says:

No, no, no. It’s all SNY’s fault.

  96. metsfan119 says:

Unfortunately we got rid of Kaz Matsui

  97. metsfan119 says:

With an agent who might just be the biggest a$$hole on the planet

  98. EV says:

Hey, leave Piazza alone, what type of Met fan are you, oh that’s right you aren’t one.

  99. gipper82475 says:

Wow. I am as mad as anybody at Willie and this whole franchise…but to knock Piazza? That’s almost as delusional as Willie’s SNY comments.

  100. ravin108 says:

Piazza was a legendary Met but the end of his Mets career he was definitely criticized for not being a team leader and being a disappointment on the field for some horrible Mets teams.

Thanks Mike for the memories but towards the end of your career, your bat could no longer make up for your bad throwing, slow speed, double play susceptibility, and lack of clubhouse leadership

  101. tvtechwonv27 says:

why are you talking about last year… David WRight was on the team that had the greatest Collapse in HISTORY… and your talking about MVP>??? David Wright is not immune to taking hits… When he starts playing like Ray Knight did when he was with the Mets then I’ll respect David… Everyone on the METS is taking a hit… NO EXCEPTIONS>>>

  102. BringBackDykstra says:

OK…now i know you are simple.
Ray Knight while with the mets
    1986: .298 BA, 11 HR, 76 RBIs
    1987: .256 BA, 14 HR, 65 RBIs

David Wright while with the mets:
    2005: .306 BA, 27 HRs, 102 RBIs
    2006: .311 BA, 26 HRs, 116 RBIs
    2007: .325 BA, 30 HRs, 107 RBIs

stop talking out of your a s s (i even spaced it out for you!!)

  103. SunsetParkBK says:

    Matsui was like bad sushi….

  104. NY Cuban says:

Actually, it was the right call, but amazing what flipping out can do.

  105. GregB says:

oh, absolutely…i was just making the point that it’s always the other guys doing it

  106. Danny says:

Reyes did it against Cincinnati last homestand. And the CF didn’t even make an error.

  107. ravin108 says:

Yeah, I’m not angry so much anymore, just depleted. Just to add to your comments, the 2005, 2006, and 1st half 2007 mets were also great teams to cheer for too because you always knew they had a chance to come back.

  108. GenerationQue says:

    Nice comparison. I enjoyed that.

  109. ravin108 says:

I think Beltran is incredibally valuable to this team. However, he has proven to be a #2 hitter and not a #4 hitter. As a #2 hitter, he’s perfect with his OBP% numbers and his speed is put to more use. Also, his outfield play is stellar and one of the best in baseball.

  110. BigDaddyKirk says:

I would have no problem trading any or all of the above. The hard part will be finding a team interested in a 40+ outfielder that is constantly hurt, a second baseman that’s got bad knees and a weak arm, a washed up first baseman, a reliever that forgot how to pitch, a project pitcher that will give you ulcers, and a center fielder that always has a boo boo and leaves the bat on his shoulder during key at-bats.

    That being said, any takers????

I can see bringing up F-Mart, but then who plugs in at the other holes? If we had a decent pitching prospect, we wouldn’t keep parading garbage pitchers out there like figueroa and vargas every 5th day. There’s a reason these guys were available… 29 other GMs couldn’t ALL be wrong!

  111. itsmetsforme says:

i was just thinking about that. but it could be the best move a desparate GM has since he couldn’t be replaced but you could get a lot for him.

  112. ravin108 says:

    Right,

The price for many of these guys is low, but I do think they can get something for Ollie. With the other guys, its just about saving some money and letting some younger players prove themselves.
Unfortunately, I don’t know of a replacement player the Mets have for Castillo. Anderson Hernandez stopped developing 2 years ago.

  113. blains2000 says:

    tvtechwonv27 meet K_Chub.
    K_Chub meet tvtechwonv27.

  114. toomanyuniforms says:

We can guess how it will smell.

  115. blains2000 says:

    Ahhh…I was right.

  116. itsmetsforme says:

what’s a borderline girlfriend? is she canadian?

  117. miker94 says:

at least he is doing something

  118. toomanyuniforms says:

The Atlantans do a fine job on their own these days.

  119. teufelshuffle86 says:

I was at the game tonight. Not only was it not a sellout, there were at least 10,000 empty seats for Santana/Hudson.

  120. swilkerson71 says:

Actually college football is king in the South.

  121. toomanyuniforms says:

Catz, you were just leaving? I’ll take an ALLCAPS Met fan any day, thank you very much.

  122. blains2000 says:

Guess the $1 bleachers are too rich for their blood.

  123. Mex_17 says:

That’s because the game was up against a rerun of “Hee Haw”.

  124. HeadlinerG60 says:

Maybe those 10,000 people were at a WCW show……no wait, they didn’t support that either. Maybe they were at the Cobb County Civic Center at a gun show and flea market chili feed?

  125. therealsince86 says:

Ah, let them stay, at least we are not arguing with each other. It’s kinda fun to stomp out ignorance every once in a while.

  126. toomanyuniforms says:

By now they’re just pulp. I don’t want us to take our eye off the ball, i.e., not resting until Delgado has a pink slip and a tee time.

  127. teufelshuffle86 says:

Come one dude, lighten up. They are $5 seats.

  128. therealsince86 says:

I am guessing that it’s just too difficult to find the stadium. Either that or the short bus lot was full.

  129. blains2000 says:

Kevin and Keith said they were $1 the other night. My bad.

  130. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Cobb County Civic Center, nice!

  131. pgiro says:

Haven’t you guys figured out yet that tvtechwonv27 is a Yankee fan posing as a met fan?

    Nice try tvtechwonv27

  132. toomanyuniforms says:

    Stick is a Met fan.

He’s also telling it like it is.

  133. krumbledkookie says:

I’ve seen every pitch of every game, and I may get down, but the fan who keeps rooting and keeps believing is entitled to do so, and we could all, myself included, learn a lesson from said fan.

  134. pgiro says:

Love him or hate him (if you’re a Mets fan it’s the latter) Chipper is a clutch ball player – Future first ballet Hall Of Famer. Be honest with yourself – you’d love to have him on our team,. The Mets don’t have anyone even close.

Hey, the guy name his kid Shea, he can’t be all that bad.

  135. pgiro says:

Whether it’s the Wilpon’s style or not is irrelavent, this goes beyond a style thing. This is a critical year for the Mets Franchise and the future of this team going forward. The Wilpons are smart business people (you don’t get to their level of financial success without knowing a thing or two) and they know in order to increase ticket prices for next year in the new ball park they can’t afford to piss off the mets fan base or worse…………….lose them.

The biggest mistake they made was not letting Willie go after the historic collaspe last year. They needed to clean house last year and starting fresh with a new manager and a new approach but they gambled and lost. Now they are force to fire their manager ( who really is not a bad human being, just a lousy manager) two months into the new season………………….at least they better before it’s too late.

  136. LAS VEGAS METS says:

hey mets fan in vegas i have extra tickets for the diego series in diego next month are u interested .

  137. Don Logan says:

amen on Willie- good guy, bad manager. simple as that.

  138. pgiro says:

Shouldn’t you be posting on YankeesBlog (your real team)?

  139. pgiro says:

Don’t worry, you have Big Brown going for the first Tripple Crown in nearly 30-years this saturday.

Trust me you’re going to see more energy and excitemnet in those 2-minutes on saturday than we’ve seen from our beloved Mets all season long so far!!

  140. Don Logan says:

I paid for Extra Innings and don’t regret it 1 bit. I still enjoy watching baseball. I will watch other teams and b/c I’m a diehard, I’ll still watch the Mets too. I don’t think things are as bad as they seem. They just need a better manager and the veterans off the payroll. It’s a transition year and w/ smart moves, could be very tough again as soon as next year. And this year isn’t over with. Where was Colorado at this point last season. Where was Houston at this point the year they went to the Series. Where was Florida in 03? Firing Torborg around Memorial Day.

  141. swilkerson71 says:

Delta is ready when you are. Plenty of flights every day. If it sucks so bad in the south why did you move here?

  142. zeekster says:

What i like most about reyes is what he could get us in a trade.

  143. zeekster says:

    No it’s the fans’ fault.

Notice what a good road team they are. (Tongue in cheek)

  144. MetsFanInVegas says:

Hope it’s like that next season cuz I’ll be down there watchin’ Mets/Braves in the ATL
