I agree that going the trade route is going to be tougher since we have little to offer in terms of young and/or affordable talent.

Is the farm really that bare where we can’t bring in some young guys to push some of the vets, namely 1B, 2B and who ever is going to take over LF?

  2. GregB says:

I’m glad I watched it to the end…’no bare midriffs’ was funny…you can’t assume anything with Keith.

other than that, it wasn’t exactly “My Dinner with Andre”, was it?

You can not win in baseball going the free agency and/or trade route anymore. Our overpaid players are proof that multi-millionaires with established careers will not give you the desire, the spirit or the chemistry that you need to win ball games on a consistent basis.
Look at the braves and their core of young players..Francour, Mccann, Escobar, along with Chipper a player better than anyone the mets have ever had….
Look at the Phils with their never out of a game mentality. I’d take Chase Utley over anyone on the mets including Wright.
Look at the Marlins….they do it all the time with young players and a great judgment of talent..hanley ramierez is so much better than Reyes that its a joke.
    Its time to rebulid!
Get rid of Willie , rick peterson and Omar…..

Matt those two clips you posted today were better than 85% of the filler that is on SNY between games.

  5. dykstraw says:

why can’t we just switch uniforms with the devil rays or something?

it would solve the whole kazmir thing.

Carlos Delgado is a huge problem for this team, not just because he can’t hit and doesn’t play any defense to make up for that, but because of his personality. Ok Ok, hear me out, this may sound a bit crazy. He’s THE veteran everyday presence on this team, the possible future HOF (seems less likely everyday), the guy with all the numbers, the guy you respect, blah blah blah. But the thing is, he’s not a “baseball” leader. Sure, you respect him, but he’s the kind of guy that is not going to show his desire to win, its like he has too much perspective on life outside baseball, winning games isn’t an absolute must, or at least not enough for him to show it. He’s never been on a winner, isn’t vocal about losing, isn’t vocal about winning either. He’s just too stoic to be a guy other guys on a team can fall in line behind and say, “we’re going to do whatever it takes to win, cause that’s what he’s doing” Instead, you fall in line behind Delgado and say, “i’m going to go about my business, stoically, and just do my thing, and that’s about it.” A guy like David Wright can’t take over the clubhouse because of a presence like Delgado’s. I’m not saying Delgado doesn’t care about winning, i’m sure he does, but he doesn’t show it, and when you’re the veteran presence on a team, guys fall in line behind you, and that seems to be a problem here.
Further more, I disagree with 2 things said in this piece, we did have a replacement for Alou Ted Berg, his name is Angel Pagan and he played quite well, but should Omar know he was going to be injured too? Also, Matt, what do these contracts given to young players have to do with trades? Trading of players usually always has happened when a guy is closer to free agency, not 1 or 2 years into the big leagues, which is when these young players are being signed.

Hey Cerrone, why are you wearing your wife’s blouse?

i certainly respect how far metsblog has come (and it has come VERY far) but we can’t deny the fact that these guys belong in front of computer screens not television cameras. so keep up the fine work on the blog and maybe your tv work will improve as your blog has. then youll really have something

  9. adropofvenom says:

Matt, I mean this completely as constructive criticism, but….

    GET TO THE POINT!

You’re not writing an article when you’re on the TV screen. You gotta have more short, concise points when you’re on TV.

Matt, does that shirt come in hetero?

  11. be_dot says:

I’m glad Matt touched on the whole ‘how Reyes goes the team goes’. That is ajoke that this team point s to one still young player and says, well if he’s not getting on, the team can’t win. Some one be accountable and stop placing the entire team on Reyes’ back. Some one step up and say if reyes goes 0-4, I’ll get on, I’ll hustle for an extra base, I’ll hit a homerun.

  12. Matt you look adorable in the pink shirt.
