preGame: Mets at Rockies (Game One)
By Mike Nichols - May 23, 2008 8:27 pm

The Game:

The Mets (22-23) begin a three-game series versus the defending National League champion Rockies (18-29) tonight at Coors Field in Denver, starting at 9:05 pm EST.

The Lineup:

According to John Delcos of the Journal News, Ryan Church is not in tonight’s lineup due to dizziness.

The Pitchers:

LHP Oliver Perez (4-3, 4.25 ERA) takes the hill for the Mets. Perez earned a victory in his last start on May 18 versus the Yankees surrendering two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four over 7.2 IP. He leads the National League with an .094 batting average against left-handed batters this season. Perez is 4-4 with a 5.04 ERA in 12 career games, 11 starts, versus the Rockies.

RHP Greg Reynolds (0-1, 3.09 ERA) makes his third career start for the Rockies. In his last start on May 17 versus the Twins, Reynolds allowed no runs on three hits while striking out two and walking two. This is his first career start versus the Mets.

…i shudder every time i write, “this is his first career start versus the Mets“…

How To Catch It:

    Gotta start this off correct

    LETS GO METS

  2. catcher4life says:

I MISS RYAN CHURCH! I’m all for him getting better and all, but I can’t wait for him to be back in our lineup (I’m pretty sure that he’s the only player that hits over .300 right now)

  3. ags412 says:

All we can do as fans, all we’re supposed to do as fans, is cheer for our team. Good or bad, right or wrong, just root, root, root for the Mets.

    Let’s go Mets!

    • PULLTHEPLUG says:

By booing you are showing your team that you are disappointed in their performance and your expectation as a fan. Most fans pay a lot of money to go to the games, buy their disgusting food or pay to have SNY on your cable package.
Booing has been going on for years. Why stop now, they need to know how the fans really feel. We are their real bosses as we pay their big time salaries.

  4. cbkolb says:

    Let’s Go Mets!

I am sure the advance scouts did their job and they have a good idea what Reynolds’ will be bringing to the party tonight.

Man, I wish Church were playing…get well ASAP Ryan…we miss you!!

We need a solid start from Ollie again. He pitched a great game in the Bronz…need a streak stopper tonight.

  5. dykstraw says:

personally i’m gonna enjoy this game

because i have no expectation this team is gonna win another game this year

    • catcher4life says:

i think that might be going just a tad overboard there dykstraw

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

‘Step back from the ledge, straw’…..

      • dykstraw says:

        hahaha

i’m sure they’ll win a couple by accident

but my point is that it’s much less upsetting now that i’ve accepted they are just bad

        • catcher4life says:

season’s not over yet. YA GOTTA BELIEVE!!

        • eligoodrich says:

hah i was talkin about the same thing earlier today. you can still love the mets ,but it just becomes easier to watch if you dont expect anything at all. Its also how I watched the knicks.

  6. metsarebest says:

    ags412 you are correct
    support your team folks
we are not losing this game

  7. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    go OP!!!!

  8. I may have to invoke the power of Wayne Garrett to get us through this game…don’t make me go Bruce Bosclair on your asses!

Oh mighty Wayne, please work your magic!

  9. therealsandman says:

ahh another game without the heart and soul of this ball club

  10. bootlegga24 says:

I love how there are 12 posts right now and theyre mostly positive but in 3 hours theres gonna be 800 posts and theyre gonna be full of hate, disgust, and suicidal ideation

  11. EliPorter says:

    we need a quick start

  12. metsarebest says:

    we will win tonight

    • therealsandman says:

hope your right, i would probably kill myself if they get swept again

  13. cropseymonster says:

Willie’s best bet to keep is job is to let OP know it’s on the line tonight – OP is great under pressure, but is he toes the rubber thinking it’s just another game at Mile High, Willie is toast . . . true story

  14. metsfan119 says:

Look, I’m a fan of the Mets and I strongly want what’s best for the team longterm. However, a win tonight would almost feel like a stay of execution because the power happened to be out a particular night.

  15. metsarebest says:

watch the mets score early and never look back

  16. EliPorter says:

    not a strike there

  17. EliPorter says:

    again, not a strike

  18. cropseymonster says:

I’d love to be a fly on the wall to witness Little Jeffy’s temper tantrum tonight if OP implodes early . . . true story

  19. cheapseats says:

Does anyone know whatever happened to the MetsBlog Memo that Matt was doing??

  20. metsfan119 says:

let the domination by this sht starter begin

  21. chew13 says:

Man what a weak lineup. I know Willie is handcuffed by injuries but the 5-9 is putrid. Should have started Castro tonight instead of Schneider to try and make up for the lack of pop.

  22. domosnacks5 says:

Great, 2 batters in and the guy has already matched his career high in Ks.

Good to see Jose and Luis have a clue getting up there.

  23. Aquadealer says:

This Reynolds kid looks as good as Campillo

  24. EliPorter says:

the mets might make greg reynolds look like greg maddux… true story

  25. metsfan119 says:

    Torrealba cycle tonight?

  26. EliPorter says:

the wheels on the season ….

  27. MainStMets says:

big field out there in colorado

  28. mark5674 says:

can we get a real left fielder in left? damn…

  29. Flushing_is_Burning says:

here comes our stopper – Oliver Perez

    • landyg21 says:

i’d rather bring up a youngster up to play left field. do we really need 3 catchers. by the way is it just me or does it seem like the rockies are tipping pitches against the mets every year

  30. Aquadealer says:

    Gone…………

  31. EliPorter says:

    goodbye america

  32. dykstraw says:

you guys remember when garrett atkins was a poor man’s david wright?

  33. mrosey says:

    Game Over

  34. MainStMets says:

lets the negativity begin to rain down…

  35. metsforever says:

That should just about do it for tonight.

Bye Willie, Good Luck in your next 3B coaching job.

  36. EliPorter says:

    todd “highway to” helton

  37. Flushing_is_Burning says:

im gonna drink myself to sleep … good night

  38. dr jones says:

    woount woun wannnnnnnn

  39. CLYONS says:

question for all of you out there…do you think if fernando martinez was healthy right now this would be his shot in left while alou is out..or to early?

  40. metsfan119 says:

Seriously, how many Mets fans in here honestly feel confident the Mets are coming back from this deficit?

  41. Crisera says:

Already the mets are sucking it up. I am so sick of this cuz they probably wont come back

  42. EliPorter says:

by the way, ollie was up in the count 0-2 vs atkins… and 1-2 vs helton. spare me.

i feel like every oliver perez start is a microcosm of the mets season. you always feel things are going to implode, things are very inconsistent/streaky, opportunities are blown, and at the end of the day, both are underachievers

  43. MudvilleNine says:

How long are they going to hold onto the jacket? Every single one of our pitchers gets 2 strikes on hitters and cant finish them off. I can understand if 2 or 3 were having that problem but the whole staff? Thats got to be on your pitching coach. The whole coaching staff has to be given pink slips.

  44. dykstraw says:

my favorite part of these games is when burkhardt and yallof and the talking heads ask “is this the low point of the season?”

  45. EliPorter says:

we cant drive in runs with runners in scoring position and less than 2 outs, yet every team scores with 2 outs against us. this is exactly what the mets did not need

  46. landyg21 says:

we can only hope for a tie since we can’t score more then 2 runs

  47. Crisera says:

    Finally
lets see if the rookie can destroy us now. We need a new team

  48. dykstraw says:

brian schneider is the new giuseppe franco

  49. MudvilleNine says:

Who cares what Guiseppe Franco says. What does the Zohan think we should do?

  50. metsfan119 says:

It’s just as well the Mets lose. It’s quite obvious this team doesn’t respond to Willie (if anyone) so why prolong his tenure with a couple of meaningless wins before the next swoon?

    • Aquadealer says:

I wonder if a manager has ever been fired mid game?

    • EliPorter says:

i hate to say this, but i kind of agree with your sentiments. sure i dont want to see the mets lose, but if we drop 2 games, willie might go. i think willie being fired would make up for a few losses to the rockies.

  51. Crisera says:

Wait did anyone ever no Giuseppe Franco before the commerical, cuz he makes it sound like he’s famous.

  52. landyg21 says:

2008 slogan — The collapse is only the beginning

  53. NY Cuban says:

Just so you all know…my 1 1/2 year old daughter is now running around the house chanting “Willie Sucks”. Kids really do say the darndest things.

  54. Hernandez_1B says:

Am I the only one here that thinks Tatis should be starting in left over Anderson? I know its probably a lefty righty thing but Marlon can’t hit the broad side of a building. Why not give Tatis a chance. Can’t hurt right?

  55. NYwho27 says:

All I can say is WOW!

  56. adam900 says:

I’m not even mad anymore just because I’m so used to it. This team isn’t going anywhere with this manager and until the realize that they could be at least 15 games out and 10 below .500.

  57. Crisera says:

How cute teach her to say get rid of Delgado

  58. Runshouse says:

Let the streak continue its like ripping a bandaid off instead of pulling slowly.,, and when i say bandaid i mean ENTIRE coaching staff.

  59. EliPorter says:

at what point does delgado consider shortening his swing. sorry buddy, you dont have the bat speed anymore. if you want to get that bat speed back, give roger clemens a call

  60. catcher4life says:

its the second inning and he just threw his career high for strikeouts…. 3….. i think i’m going to be sick

  61. Aquadealer says:

And Delgado K’s to stay out of the DP… way to go Carlos

  62. Pacman_Jones says:

Don’t you think Delgado would retire mid-season to spare some embarrassment? I’m sure the mets would throw him some dough to compensate the buy out.

  63. metsforever says:

This guy Reynolds is an all time great. It’s so obvious. He is up there with the great Campillo and Gorzelany. When is his HOF induction?

    • EliPorter says:

mets forever, i thought you were immigrating to red sox nation.

      • metsforever says:

        can’t stay away.

I may lose the remote to Red Sox nation. My wife can’t stand my screaming at the TV much longer.

    • MudvilleNine says:

Hey! Dont get ahead of yourself. First he has to have his number retired.

  64. Crisera says:

We should just get rid of Marlon Anderson and Easley. I hate them there old, bring up fresh blood.

  65. Pacman_Jones says:

So when do NFL preseason games start? August? That’s only 3 months away!

  66. metsfan119 says:

It’s sad, I’m not even angry about the way the Mets play anymore. It’s just a kind of resigned apathy.

  67. dykstraw says:

wow. CRAZY PROPS to the vocal mets contingent out there.

  68. Pacman_Jones says:

Meet me at the Marina Saturday for the Mets vs. Dodgers game, our group has the huge FIRE WILLIE sign. A new sign will be in full effect, if Willie isn’t gone by next Saturday, hopefully he’s outta there!

    • dykstraw says:

i really think that sign is gonna be obsolete

unless the new manager is also named willie

      • Pacman_Jones says:

Heyman on the pregame was saying insiders say Willie “has the year.” Please let the “insiders” be smoking pot.

        • dykstraw says:

how is heyman an insider? or any of these national guys?

like really, how do they have the inside track on the ny beat writers?

omar isn’t out there to ski. and they’re not meeting with the owners on monday to barbecue.

  69. landyg21 says:

who likes frank robinson for half the year?

  70. EliPorter says:

i think were on pace to shatter the previous comments record.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

This trend will continue for another 2 weeks, until we’re 10 games below .500, then people stop watching for the season.

  71. Crisera says:

Bring Bobby Valentine back! Willie sucks

  72. catcher4life says:

so, whose our next manager? anyone know?

    • EliPorter says:

jerry manuel on an interim basis. the wilpons will probably get a real manager after the year ends. bobby v anyone? jack mckeons ghost? barack obama? isiah thomas?

  73. metsfan119 says:

Happy to hear the Mets are relaxed. That’s fantastic

  74. landyg21 says:

is it possible to demote Delgado to the minors

  75. MudvilleNine says:

    Oh, now he goes.

  76. cheapseats says:

Any way the mets can stay out in Colorado??? I think we all just need a break…

  77. metsfan119 says:

Said it before and I’ll say it again, the fact that no one was held accountable for last season’s collapse was worse than the collapse itself. If you ran a corporation that way you’d be shipped out the door with you multi-million dollar pension in no time.

  78. Crisera says:

I want Mazz or Bobby V at least he brought us to a world series with a crappy team in 2000. If you think about it we just had 6 good guys on that team. He can turn it around but hes in Japan so we would have to wait until the end of the season.

  79. metsarebest says:

since we are now learning that Willie has the year can we PLEASE concentrate on winning some games ???

  80. EliPorter says:

keith hernandez’s daughter is chubby. hope he doesnt read this

  81. Pacman_Jones says:

Keith’s daughter is a CARDINALS FAN! DISOWN THAT wh0re!

  82. cheapseats says:

“physical problem”, a.k.a he liked winning

  83. Pacman_Jones says:

She got many many rolls, she needs to start doing crunches, quickly.

  84. EliPorter says:

o great. oliver perez is hurt! lets bring back nelson figueroa

and by the way, only oliver perez could walk the opposing pitcher on 4 pitches

  85. Pacman_Jones says:

    OP SUCKS, he’s injured.

  86. Prismo says:

    Re: Keith’s daughter

Wow…you guys are cruel. What’s Keith done to you?

  87. Crisera says:

I want to play the Yankees everyday. Then we would win

  88. catcher4life says:

did he just walk the pitcher on 4 pitches…. i’m afraid to watch what happends next

  89. EliPorter says:

if youre brian schneider, what can you possibly say to oliver perez. if theres such thing as manny being manny, can we start “ollie being ollie”

  90. bootlegga24 says:

i think this might be the night ollie finally walks off the field crying

  91. MudvilleNine says:

They’re right. He’s not finishing. You dont see him falling off to the thirdbase side like he usually does. He’s not even bringing his arm all the way across and down.

    • MudvilleNine says:

Watch his arm. It stays on his leftside. Doesnt come across thus leaving it outside.

  92. Crisera says:

Could you imagine Keith as our manager.

  93. Michael Scott says:

Stuck with the colorado feed…any comments from the SNY booth about Willie/

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Yes, Gary just said Willie will be getting fired because “well, he’s black” and SNY keeps putting the camera on him standing in the dugout after every ball Ollie throws, not sure why because they’re not showing him after Ollie throws a strike.

  94. landyg21 says:

tony armas has beenpitching well in the minors although his record doesn’t show it since ollie is showing signs of alouitis

  95. Oliver is one of Omar’s latin guys that has divided the clubhouse. Next year we should take the 17mil delgado is making and invest it in texiera, and teh 20 mill pedro and perez are making and invest it in lacky and a 5 starter.

    • landyg21 says:

see the mistake your making is the words next year with delgado, the faster he’s off this team the better

  96. EliPorter says:

    dear ny mets,

can you at least make this game watchable?

    OLLIE BEING OLLIE

  97. VelvetFoot says:

The Rockies radio announcers (XM) also noted mechanics problems.

  98. The mets should also bribe Luis Castillos consulate to “loose” his visa in the mail

  99. Crisera says:

Luis Castillo probably doesn’t know what a post-game interview is.

    • cheapseats says:

come on he deosnt have time to talk to reporters, he;s gotta ice his knees after games

  100. Thats the only solution at 2nd.

  101. catcher4life says:

how about lee mazilli for manager?????

  102. Pacman_Jones says:

Like Miggy, he forgot how to speak English.

  103. By the way when Delgado goes to the mound and “shows leadership”, he is probably just saying don’t let them hit the ball down to 1st

  104. Phantaroth says:

He’s stepping towards first when he throws, and his arm is getting slowed down on the follow through by running more quickly into his body (which is moving towards 1st while his arm moves home)

  105. Crisera says:

mazz would win us 90+ game

    • breadclock says:

Unfortunately, MLB rules don’t allow combining two seasons into the win total.

  106. NYwho27 says:

This is bad and the worst part is that they is NO help in the minors. This is going to be a long year. I bet Johan wishes he was pitching elsewhere now.

  107. MudvilleNine says:

See where his arm went on that slider? Across his body with his hand stopping across his right thigh. HAs to do that on every pitch

  108. EliPorter says:

    he just hit 90 there.

  109. Frank, the great Robinson should be manager. Peoplle give Accta credit for winning 70 games in Wash., but Frank was in playoff contention, long after trading Vlad.

    • landyg21 says:

i agree with him as a short term fix. at least he’s a hall of famer not some second baseman who was lucky to play on certain teams. it funny the great coaching job willie did in the AL last week. oh yeah that’s right you don’t have to think over there

  110. Prismo says:

Hey guys, remember when the Giants won the superbowl? That was good times…

(I’m holding onto that for dear life)

  111. cheapseats says:

Might as well give Yogi a chance too, everybody else’s name has been throw out…

  112. Plus Frank actually has the stats to say to delgado “you suck”

  113. Times like these make you appreciate Bobby V. It just goes to show that you don’t apprieciate a good thing till its gone

  114. metsarebest says:

you guys are funny still naming new managers when it was already reported that Willie Randolph is not getting fired
    so sorry to dissappoint you

  115. EliPorter says:

    i love ollie’s batting stance

  116. therealsandman says:

195 posts in the top of the 3rd inning, enough said

  117. landyg21 says:

i was actually upset when booby V was fired, damn steve phillips

  118. My friend says that Willie only knows how to coach at yankee stadium. He was a great bench coach with the yankees and owns the yankees as manger

  119. landyg21 says:

who wants to bet reyes pops up

  120. cheapseats says:

Keith’s dad didn;t want him getting mixed up in drugs, hmmm

  121. metsarebest says:

    go jose !!
mets will take the lead here

  122. Michael Scott says:

Bobby V would be a prima donna if he came back. I think he’d have a “told you so” type of attitude. Any of u guys see “the zen of Bobby V” on ESPN? His head is soooo big right now I’m afraid he’d want too much power and be verrry stubborn.

I mentioned it yesterday…Tony Pena for manager.

  123. therealsandman says:

mets dont score this inning they are almost certain to lose this game even if its early

  124. cheapseats says:

Doest anyone know what happened to m00kie, haven’t seen him post in a while?

  125. therealsandman says:

im shocked on what just happened

  126. MainStMets says:

    slapp[ppppy!

  127. landyg21 says:

4 more years 4 more years lol

  128. Casillo couldn’t have done that last night in the 8th inning

    • MudvilleNine says:

Easy to get him out lefthanded. Throw low and inside. Grounds out to second everytime.

  129. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

    Big Slapi

  130. metsarebest says:

oh boy castillo sure does stink right fellas ?????

    • Aquadealer says:

      Yes he still does…..

    • gipper82475 says:

      maetsarebest,

You are new here (at least your username is) and you are not making friends.

I know Phillies fans like you love to goad us and love to see us hold on to our incompetent, delusional manager. But, at the end of the day, you still live in Philly.

  131. Castillo should be starting for new orleanes

  132. landyg21 says:

fastballs in and sliders away can anyone let wright know this it’s been going on all year

  133. EliPorter says:

curiously, whats the origin of slappy mcsingleton?

  134. landyg21 says:

    please someone let him know

  135. Why don’t the mets have someone like Holliday

  136. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

    Nice, Castillo didn’t throw home.

  137. Crisera says:

    Should mets get Mark Teixiera

  138. The mets should take the 17mil delgado is making and invest it in texiera, and teh 20 mill pedro and perez are making and invest it in lacky and a 5 starter.

  139. Crisera says:

Is C.C a free agent next year too? Cuz Minaya likes him.

I could see C.C as a yankee but not Mark.

  140. landyg21 says:

i have to give props to willie i think he holds the record for the lowest batting average for a starter in the all star game in 81 he hit 234

  141. MudvilleNine says:

This is where he should bunt, leading off an inning

  142. landyg21 says:

we can’t pick up CC don’t you remember we’re racist here in NY

  143. siremisanthrope says:

delgado: “how do you hit sliders in the dirt?”

  144. Aquadealer says:

    Ground out to 2nd…….go Delgado

  145. Crisera says:

Looks like Willies gonna stay….. we will finish 81-81

  146. Crisera says:

    Another Injury

  147. Aquadealer says:

Looks like Willies gone……Omar wouldnt answer the question

  148. dykstraw says:

right there is why you bring a fricking OUTFIELDER up

  149. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, this just cannot be happening….
Looks like a hammie to me.

    • Aquadealer says:

Anderson going down can only help the Mets……

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

Wish I didn’t agree with you. But in the middle of the inning? With no bench? Not exactly the way I wanted to see what the young talent can do…

  150. EliPorter says:

    can this season end now?

  151. MudvilleNine says:

    NEXT!!!!

  152. metsarebest says:

are you so called fans listening ??
    OWNERSHIP SUPPORTS WILLIE
so here is your chance to bail out on your team right now
willie randolph is your manager and if you cant deal with it then find another team

    • Aquadealer says:

What are you listening to????? Did you hear Burkart say Omar wouldnt answer when he was asked if Willies was in danger???

      • metsarebest says:

what are you listening to because he said he supports willie and the owners support willie and they are going to meet to talk it over and put it behind them

        willie stays !!

    • landyg21 says:

there being nice right now while there having dinner discussing the fate of the team

    • NY Cuban says:

He chose he words because he would not commit that Willie was not in imminent danger. Even Burkhardt alluded to that.

  153. Crisera says:

    Fernando Martinez

  154. VelvetFoot says:

    Cassanova!

  155. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

    Paging Ricky Ledee.

  156. cheapseats says:

    Another one bites the dust

Eerily reminds me of the Chavez injury

  157. siremisanthrope says:

give me a bat i can hit .023

  158. Crisera says:

why the hell would they have 3 catchers

  159. Prismo says:

Marlon Anderson appears to have a hamstring injury, for those of you not watching.

  160. EliPorter says:

“mets fans, what have we done to deserve this? repent”-keith hernandez…

did cohen really suggest putting schneider in left?

  161. can someone please give me an update… My husband’s watching a stupid movie!

    • Ludacrispat says:

      marlon anderson popped his hamstring

      your husband’s a loser

      • Yeah, I know, he hates the Mets.
Wow another hamstring injury, this is getting ridiculous. Maybe the strength and conditioning coach should go to.
Omar, wake the phuck up!!! Get another outfielder!!!

    • Aquadealer says:

You dont want to know…go watch the movie with him and save yourself

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I feel for you. So is mine. Thank god I’ve got a TV card on my PC and can watch SNY on this. Side bennie is reading the comments at the same time….

  162. Ludacrispat says:

Gotta love Willie and Omar unecccesarily having three catchers and no legitimate backup outfielders.

    • MainStMets says:

cassanova was called up to free castro to be a bat of the bench w out the worry of burning the back up Catcher, w situation were in now, castro might be best bet to pinch hit, ESP NOW THAT MARLON aka WORLDS BEST PINCH HITTER will be done til July at least

  163. CitizenSnips says:

    F-it. Call up F-mart!

    • EliPorter says:

      f-marts hurt. lets call up gomez (.286, 4 homers, 17 rbis, 16 steals + a cycle

  164. landyg21 says:

    fmart is injured

  165. dykstraw says:

i think ted berg’s pascucci wish is gonna come true.

    sorry marlon.

  166. MainStMets says:

sniper got him bad, poor guy could barely walk, so now for the next weke or so our corner OF will be chavez and easley

for a big market team in NY how is it possible for us to have such pathetic major league talent to play the OF

  167. Ludacrispat says:

    fernando….tatis????

    • MainStMets says:

remember, this is the same guy ppl have been begging to see in action, so nows the chance

  168. Crisera says:

martinez (OF) was hurt and i just found out he got hurt again on may 18. So we need Gomez

    • landyg21 says:

he’s getting injuries that he could play through but he’s being babied through the system

  169. Michael Scott says:

What’s with the injuries!?! FIRE the Trainer!

But seriously, can’t someone on the team run out to help Marlon off the field? Willie and the trainer have to act like crutches. Didn’t we all see a few weeks ago where opposing players helped a girl softball player circle the bases…good team spirit Mets.

  170. landyg21 says:

i seriously wouldn’t mind bringing him up though when healthy

  171. I say dive Castro a 1st baseman’s glove (he can’t be any worse then delgado) and throw him out there

  172. gdfther412 says:

SIGN BONDS!!!..haha hey the season cant get much worse.

  173. Ludacrispat says:

Damion Easley is probably unavailable because his favorite episode of FRIENDS is on.

  174. backinbusiness says:

who is playing in RF now?

  175. cheapseats says:

    “Just for homeruns”

  176. Crisera says:

Nady…. isn’t Omar here. Tom. he will talk to the pirates lol

  177. kjmcc0729 says:

anyone hear omars press conference? apparently he pledged his and the wilpons support of willie as the manager. According to Eddie C the indication is that willie is the manager for the foreseeable future. My guess is that wilpons are seeking to rename their new stadium Ghost-Citi Field!

    • metsarebest says:

‘willie is our manager and he has the support of me and our ownership’

      that is what omar said
citifield will be sold out every game next year
willie will be the manager and we are going to the playoffs this year

      • NY Cuban says:

If this is indeed true…I’ll be back when he’s gone. I’m waiting until Monday to get the truth, because he shouldn’t make it past Sunday.

        • gipper82475 says:

This is absurd. What are the Wilpons smoking?

          Willie MUST go!

        • kjmcc0729 says:

Burkhart spoke of this as well, although he mentioned that when Omar was asked directly if willie is in any imminent danger of losing his job he paused before responding that he has the support of the gm and the owners. Kevin and the sny crew did not think that that was a ringing endorsement, nor a direct answer. we will see. unfortunately, for those who really want willie gone it looks as though they have to lose more games.

        • gipper82475 says:

Ah. That makes more sense. This “metsarebest” troll is really irritating.

    • dykstraw says:

i wouldn’t worry about it. if this team continues to lose, he’s gone.

  178. EliPorter says:

phils, marlins, and bravos all lost

  179. Gilch says:

crap on Ollie all you want ….. he is battling right now…. this is the type of start i would like to see him be successfull in more so than the yankee game where he was dominant …
this is the type of starts he needs to conquer in order to take that next step …. not your best stuff … not your best stuff mentaly neither, but find a way to keep your team in the game…..
needs to avoid that blow up inning tonight …..
    lets go offense

    • landyg21 says:

but the mets can’t score more then 2 runs so hopefully we can bang out a tie and go into penalty kicks

    • MudvilleNine says:

How many pitches is he up to?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I love Ollie. Would like to see him prove everyone wrong and win 15+. Of course Boras talking him into the ‘Arod mindset of free agency’ will have him believing he can get a billion dollar contract….

  180. cheapseats says:

Where’s Mini-Manny Victor Diaz when you need him??

  181. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

That was like the pitch the kid through in Rookie Of The Year.

  182. dr jones says:

Now this is going to be the excuse they use to take the heat off Willie. “Were a little banged up” is going to be a major talking point in interviews..

  183. Yeah but the nationals win moving us only a few games above the cellar

  184. MudvilleNine says:

Should have caught that on the fly. Cant take a chance like that the way things have been going.

  185. dr jones says:

No matter what happens in these three games. I’ll never forget what Willie said about the fans and never think of him the same again.

    • metsarebest says:

      lol
sounds like one of the ‘fire willie’ club is giving up the fight !!
      smart thinking

    • Mex_17 says:

      That’s a very good point.

Aside from the Mets’ play on the field, Willie’s comments over the past week were insane, insulting, and a fireable offense by themselves.

It’s hard to root for a manager who clearly hates Mets fans.

  186. 1994 says:

this is the only organization where the loss of a .170 hitter is a major loss…God can’t be a Met fan because if he was it would have been delcrappo pulling a hammy.

  187. oleosmirf says:

all i have to say is bring up Valentino Pascucci

  188. Crisera says:

However we dont need a veteran….. we need a rookie gary

  189. gdfther412 says:

its hard to pull a hammy when you never get a hit.

  190. EliPorter says:

think about how we scored our only run- chavez had an infield single and castillo drove in chavez on a half swing blooper

  191. pkpiazza31 says:

what ever happened to chip ambres? is he still in our system cause of so we should bring him up considering there rly isnt anyone else

  192. oleosmirf says:

and then Gary Cohen can say the same thing 10 seconds later…

  193. Ludacrispat says:

endy chavez swings like hellen keller

  194. gdfther412 says:

the whole team has been swinging like helen keller

  195. MudvilleNine says:

Time to bring in the camp down races….Duda Duda. Bring him up. He’ll already know he wont be staying up.

  196. you know who I wouldn’t mid the mets trading for, Scot podsednick or coco crisp

  197. gdfther412 says:

This team is one firecracker and one bottle of bleach away from being the 92 mets

  198. Crisera says:

    Typical the rookie beats us.

  199. the_other_matt says:

Can SNY rerun the three great Mets games in the Ultimets Classics bank instead of this crap? It went from laughable to really pathetic and sad real quick.

  200. gdfther412 says:

maybe greg reynolds will be the cy young this year

  201. Actually The team is only one more month of willie away from that fate

  202. MetsFan4Decades says:

I think we should sign the Little Bit of Luck guy…..

  203. metsarebest says:

things are going to change now that willie knows he has the support of his bosses
they are going to work things out and the players will play better
that should be what a real fan wants

  204. gdfther412 says:

ahhh..the good ol days. Maybe we can get bret saberhagen for pitching coach and vince coleman for the outfield

  205. Crisera says:

Kevin is trying to make us feel better by telling us the rockies was 44-44 is the first half.

  206. oleosmirf says:

is kenny lofton still a free agent??

    • EliPorter says:

      barroid bonds is

      • oleosmirf says:

all kidding aside Barry Bonds would still singlehandedly put this team in the playoff hunt.

I just wouldnt sign a cheater but thats just me

  207. landyg21 says:

will we see heilman in a tight game in the 8th tonight

  208. the_other_matt says:

When will they stop saying this team is “Built to win Now” and start saying “Built to win 2 years ago”

  209. Crisera says:

    he is but idk

  210. Crisera says:

i say we bring heilman to the minors and make him a starter and trade him. Hes only 29 right

  211. gdfther412 says:

    very true matt

  212. EliPorter says:

come on ollie. please no 2 out rallies!

  213. the_other_matt says:

I’m going to start watching the game to see if they can get more hits than Giuseppe Franco commercials

  214. MudvilleNine says:

Cant we put Santana out in leftfield?

  215. dykstraw says:

COME ON SCHNEIDER CATCH THE FRICKING BALL

  216. Ludacrispat says:

brian schneider is rediculously overrated defensively

  217. Crisera says:

2006 was our year….. and we didnt win

  218. EliPorter says:

    dear god

  219. MudvilleNine says:

Ollie’s past his pitch limit and its showing.

  220. the_other_matt says:

I’m gonna hire Tanya Harding to break Ollie’s knees

  221. Ludacrispat says:

lineup for next few weeks if we had a better manager:

    SS Reyes
    RF Church
    CF Beltran
    3B Wright
    1B Delgado
    LF Pascucci
    2B Castillo
    C Schneider

    • MudvilleNine says:

So we hope the first 4 batters do some damage? Cause you know that bottom half isnt going to do a thing.

      • Ludacrispat says:

you need to pack the top half of your order- better than to waste the good bats/at-bats with crappy hitters.

        and castillo’s OBP/ Pascucci/Delgado’s semi-power won’t be horrific

    • oleosmirf says:

no chance willie calls up a career minor leaguer and plays him over the great Damion Easley.

    • gipper82475 says:

      Free Pasucci!!

  222. Crisera says:

OMG WE SUCK SO BAD GET HIM OUT

  223. MetsFan4Decades says:

Why even take a bat up to the plate ??????

  224. EliPorter says:

    willies crapping his pants…

  225. catcher4life says:

i think i’m getting an ulcer from all of these walks

  226. gipper82475 says:

Both Howie and the Colorado announcers killing Willie for not having goten pen going sooner for Mr. 7 walks.

    • MudvilleNine says:

They should. Have I been really wrong about his pitch count? At 85 pitches he begins to lose it. Its obvious to us, why not them? When he gets close to 85 someone has to get up in the pen.

  227. EliPorter says:

2 out rallies…. every single time

  228. ccmetfan says:

Is Johan pitching on Tuesday against the Marlins? I haven’t been to a game yet this season and I want to buy picnic area seats for tuesday.

    • Flushing_is_Burning says:

try stubhub… tickets should be going on the cheap now

      • ccmetfan says:

yeah I know but $10 tickets doesnt seem too much for picnic area seats. Does anyone know if it is still free on Wednesdays if you bring a pepsi can?

    • the_other_matt says:

I was told last season that picnic area seats are now only group sales unless it is a Kids Fan Club day

      • ccmetfan says:

If you sign up for mets flash news they send emails about cheap picnic area seats. Jets night tickets are for $20

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

go to the promotions part of the tickets section of the Mets website and type either METRO or LIRR and there should be discounted tix available.

  229. gipper82475 says:

Will Ollie ever put back-to-back “good Ollie” starts together?

  230. EliPorter says:

hey guys, its not too late to get the 7 pack

  231. adam11216 says:

bad ollie would’ve given up 7 runs in 4 innings tonight, so mediocre ollie is progress.

  232. EliPorter says:

david is trying too hard… hes really feeling the heat

  233. EliPorter says:

did david not hustle there? i dont see how he was thrown out

  234. landyg21 says:

What’s going on with this old club perception with the Mets Reyes 24, Wright 25, Beltran 31, Church 29, Santana 29 Maine 26, Perez 26, Pelfrey 24, Smith 24, and Sanchez 29.

4 of our 5 starters are either in their prime or just below it. 3 of the remaining 8 position players on the field are all stars which 2 haven’t reached their full potential yet and Church is making a bid for the all star team in which people should be doing there best to get him in this year, hin hint fans going to the games soon.

Granted we have Alou, Pedro, El Duque, and Delgado but that’s only 4 players past their prime. Has anyone looked at other teams such as the Phillies and Yankees who are much older.

  235. the_other_matt says:

Wright looks lost. Maybe Delgado can mento him. No wait, I mean Beltran. No wait I mean …

  236. oleosmirf says:

    Rick Down anyone???

  237. Ludacrispat says:

oh yeah, leadoff walk and two quick groundouts by the 3-4 hitters.

    WILLIEBALL!

  238. Crisera says:

    Finally

  239. Ludacrispat says:

    i love coors

  240. the_other_matt says:

    OMG: is this a dream?

  241. MainStMets says:

    stop the hating on delgado

  242. EliPorter says:

    utterly huge…

  243. dykstraw says:

i swear i just saw delgado hit a huge clutch HR

    someone adjust my set

  244. MudvilleNine says:

    What happened?!

  245. siremisanthrope says:

    about freaking time

  246. metsarebest says:

    CARLOS DELGADO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the winning streak starts right now

  247. MetsFan4Decades says:

Everyone is down on this team even Gary C. first broadcast that as a ‘fly ball to center’…..

  248. adam11216 says:

    no. way.

castillo and delgado with al the ribbies tonight.

  249. SunsetParkBK says:

    back to back….

  250. Ludacrispat says:

    O FERNANDO!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!

  251. MetsFan4Decades says:

    YES !!! YES !!!

  252. the_other_matt says:

There’s no place like Coors. There’s no place like Coors. There’s no place like Coors.

  253. MainStMets says:

tatis just bought himself a start or 2 or 3

  254. Crisera says:

Yes mets hit lots of back to back hrs this year

  255. dykstraw says:

just wanna say i’ve been on the tatis bandwagon since his first AB here

  256. MudvilleNine says:

Good thing Willie hasnt been playing him.

  257. landyg21 says:

    heilman anyone?

  258. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    hmmmm what???

  259. EliPorter says:

fernando tatis really thanked god right there. i love seeing jose on the top step of the dugout, and i want to see that more

  260. 1 Homerun doesn’t make up for a month and a half of errors, K’s , bad situational hitting (yesterday) and bitching out when faced with a post – game interview Delgado

  261. metsarebest says:

funny what a vote of confidence for our manager can do for a struggling team

      • metsarebest says:

        yeah right
you wanted willie gone but in a week you will be talking about how he managed to turn it around
or you will say they win in spite of him

        why do you hate him

        • NY Cuban says:

you don’t really want me to answer that question…

        • gipper82475 says:

          Metsarebest,

          Let me count the ways:

He had no managerial experience before being hired.

He has no idea how to manage the NL game.

It took him a season and a half to have even a modicum of a grasp of the basics of the double-switch.

He led the greatest collapse in the history of baseball and a full calendar year of sub-.500 ball.

He showed himself this week to be utterly deluded – I mean, do you want to defend those remarks? It’s all Bill Webb and SNY’s fault? Really? Oh, and Mets fans were in hiding til he came? Defend that!

He has failed to adequately address the clubhouse division.

He has failed to get large swaths of his team to hustle.

He has failed to get large swaths of his team to play sound fundamental baseball.

He has failed in handling the press.

He has succeeded….in leading Jose Reyes to regress.

  262. mrosey says:

    LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love how everyone was on the top step waiting for him applauding. LETS GOO METS!

  263. gipper82475 says:

    A two-out Mets rally?

    This cannot be the Mets?!?

  264. Can Tetis play 2nd base?

    • MudvilleNine says:

About as much as he has leftfield. But thats all you get out of him. Its all or nothing a la Dave Kingman but with a little less power.

  265. landyg21 says:

if the Mets win Delgado will run to reporters

  266. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Ollie try to keep it under 2 walks this inning. You’ve done good with the Houdini act this game but you’ve gotta get your head straight for this one.

  267. Ludacrispat says:

this is a series that a guy like tatis or castro can thrive in. notoriously hitter-friendly park.

we know who’ll be starting in left tomorrow…. (probably easley)

  268. the_other_matt says:

Not to bring Tatis down…but I hat that Sky-pointing crap.

  269. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Short leash for Ollie.

  270. landyg21 says:

typical met fans getting excited on a few hits, this is Coors and these are the Mets4 more innings to complain about the game give it time for the utter disappointment to occur

  271. If they go to the ballpen I would like to see schowenwise and feliciano, not hielman or matt wise

  272. adam11216 says:

anyone think we could get tracy from arizona for heilman?

  273. Flushing_is_Burning says:

wow ollie’s balls:strikes ratio is really atrocious

  274. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Who let the batboy pinch hit?

  275. metsfan119 says:

I still have virtually zero faith in the Mets holding this lead

  276. landyg21 says:

here comes the sledgehammer to crush your hopes for the day, don’t you hear it coming

  277. Ludacrispat says:

willie should just be fired for letting perez start this inning

GET HIM OUT OF THERE! YOU’RE TWO BATTERS TOO LATE!!!!

  278. the_other_matt says:

I mean, c’mon Ollie. He is a girl. GET SOME OUTS.

  279. MudvilleNine says:

Should never had started that inning. He was already past his pitch count and obviously done.

  280. oleosmirf says:

the fact that Colorado only has 2 runs this game is a miracle in itself.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

You’ve got that right. Can’t believe he held ‘em to 2. Of course the two on base right now belong to him….
      Go Joe Smith!!

  281. catcher4life says:

another walk, another ulcer forming… damn 110 pitches in 6 ninnings

  282. adam900 says:

Buy or Sell: They are losing at the end of the inning.

  283. metsarebest says:

there is no way they are losing tonight

  284. landyg21 says:

    whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    let the fun begin

  285. landyg21 says:

no way they were losing yesterday

  286. adam11216 says:

brilliant. guy walks the bases loaded and we give him another inning. why push your luck when you NEED a win?

  287. GordonGekko says:

Bud Fox: Why do you need to wreck this company?
Gordon Gekko: Because it’s WRECKABLE, all right? I took another look at it and I changed my mind!

    Omar = Gordon Gekko

  288. dykstraw says:

    wheel play! manage to win!

  289. landyg21 says:

wheel play??????????????? the mets have that

  290. Hey do we actually know how to sacrafice squeeze to ?!?!?!?!?

  291. landyg21 says:

little fat kid from league of their own: your gonna lose

  292. Ludacrispat says:

gotta love willie not letting smith pitch a scoreless inning. instead, he wanted to let oliver perez pitch past his ability, and, win or loss be damned, pitch while tired.

what an incredible manager we have.

  293. Schowingwise please

  294. Jefferies 9 says:

It was a nice feeling having the lead for a whole 6-7 minutes

  295. EliPorter says:

the worst part is that this inning is far from over

  296. metsfan119 says:

    Yup, not surprised at all

  297. metsfan119 says:

Maybe it’s for the best that they lose…

  298. Ludacrispat says:

To anyone saying Willie should not be fired for the Mets not hitting- you are right.

HE SHOULD BE FIRED FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO MANAGE A BASEBALL GAME—WHICH IS HIS JOB! Can’t start Perez this inning.

Absolutely awful baseball. We get a 2 run lead and it zaps away, literally, within 10 minutes.

    Pathetic ballclub.

    • landyg21 says:

do you think BoBBY Cox would have taken him out? Oh wait am i being racial

    • NY Cuban says:

There are so many reasons why he should be fired…I am getting carpal tunnel from trying to talk sense into these people.

      • metsfan119 says:

It’s more difficult to come up with reasons for him NOT to get fired

        • metsarebest says:

          funny the owners disagree

        • NY Cuban says:

          Only in your mind….

Burkhardt – “Is Willie in imminent danger of losing his job”
          —long pause
Omar – “Willie has the support of me and the owners”.

          Interpretation for the denser folks…
Long pause – I need to come up with words that let me go either way
Omar’s quote – We support him right now because we have no choice. I’m not answering if he is in danger.

  299. nvrmor says:

lol, this team is comedy gold.
heilmann/endy for xman. now. get it done.

  300. oleosmirf says:

and willie wonders why ppl want him fired

    Hint to Willie Randolph:

    Its not cause your black

  301. adam900 says:

    kill me now.

  302. GordonGekko says:

If Willie owned a funeral parlor nobody would die!

  303. EliPorter says:

    fernando tatis…. web gem?

  304. siremisanthrope says:

    goldglove catch lol

  305. washtiger says:

One huge reason for canning Willie — clueless with handling the pitching — why do you let Perez stay in the game. Already had 7 BB’s and over 100 pitches.

Does he really want to this losing streak to continue?

    • MudvilleNine says:

But where is the jacket in all this? Its been obvious to us that Ollie begins to lose it around 85 pitches. The jacket keeps the pitch count. He circles the pitch number every game when Ollie shows he’s losing it. Its showing the same thing we see, so where is he letting Ollie stay in there? The jacket is the one thats telling Willie that he can stay out there. The jacket has to go too.

  306. MainStMets says:

isnt atkins available as a FA this off season?

he has played 1st some for the rocks, lets make a bid for him

    • oleosmirf says:

no can do he’s not hispanic

      • MainStMets says:

neither are church wright schiender maine etc

the whole latin players only thing has kinda been beaten to death, compare the mets roster to other teams…

      • landyg21 says:

same reason for not going after C C next year, the fans don’t like black people

  307. HITorDIE25 says:

Perez is really worth that contract that his agent and him want. One good start bunched between 4 bad ones…quality quality…Let him go with a kick in the a$$ after the season. Make him some elses problem…8 walks

    • GordonGekko says:

Even Boras will struggle to sign this train wreck to a fat contract…oh wait here comes Omar with pen in hand.

  308. Ludacrispat says:

I wish the Mets could just field 9 Fernando Tatis’

I give the Mets a 11.1% chance of winning this game. Based on my completely subjective calculations.

  309. the_other_matt says:

gut check time for the Mets.

  310. Michael Scott says:

Willie happened to notice the OP was due up inteh 7th and thought he’s save himself a pitcher if OP could get thru the 6th.

  311. washtiger says:

Perez — 8 BB’s. Is this really the majors?! How does a guy walk 8 hitters?

  312. metsfan119 says:

It’s ridiculous, I mean, I KNOW the Mets are losing this game, yet I continue to watch this crap

  313. landyg21 says:

why isn’t he using casanova or castro here, you might need easly to pinch run later in the game

  314. MudvilleNine says:

See with such a short bench, he should be pinch hitting Santana to sacrifice here. At least if he doent do it he can still swing the bat.

  315. the_other_matt says:

Mets games are to me what crack is to crack-whores.

  316. the_other_matt says:

Wow! Endy first-to-third and no hamstring injury!

  317. MainStMets says:

hit and run? oh my were in business now

    cmon jose stay hot

  318. dykstraw says:

chavez? easley? this is getting weird

  319. I think that was the first hit and run that Willie has ever run

  320. reilly171 says:

    come on jose…be patient

  321. metsarebest says:

earlier in the evening i said that Willie Randolph was not going to be fired and the mets were not going to lose this game

i am damn good at this

    • Mex_17 says:

      Where were you in September?

      • metsarebest says:

the question is where will i be in october
i will be watching the NEW YORK METS
i guess i am the only one here who thinks so
        that’s a shame

    • Aquadealer says:

      Isnt it past your bedtime?

      • metsarebest says:

it bothers you that not everyone will be negative and boo their own team doesn’t it

        • gipper82475 says:

It bothers us when we see people who are sick. It is so sad. Delusions like Willie’s “It is SNY’s fault I look bad” or your “We’re going to October with Willie” sentiments are just sad. We all hope that you and Willie get the help you need.

    • dykstraw says:

castillo blows. how does someone so “fast” kill us with so many DPs?

can’t wait to see matt wise in this game.

  322. MainStMets says:

    sac fly ill take it

  323. Ludacrispat says:

reyes needs to get a hit there

  324. dykstraw says:

sorry, rbi or not that was an AWFUL job by reyes

  325. reilly171 says:

    will take it

  326. landyg21 says:

it’s a good thing willie started endy today for his hustle, oh i forgot he had no other choice because no one else is an outfielder. good thing endy has been on the bench all year.

  327. MudvilleNine says:

Whats the chances of another hit and run here?

  328. MainStMets says:

we got the lead back, all that matters

  329. Ludacrispat says:

how many times can we say that luis castillo sucks?

  330. MainStMets says:

good call on the hit and run, 2 in one inning, impressive

  331. siremisanthrope says:

    luis “double play” castillo

  332. Crisera says:

    millions

  333. landyg21 says:

i hear the chants on the blog:

    chants: HEILMAN HEILMAN HEILMAN

    • oleosmirf says:

haha heilman only comes it when hes at his best.

right in the middle of an inning to give up the HR

  334. MudvilleNine says:

Chances of Easley staying in to play second and putting the new pitcher into Castillos spot so not to waste another pinch hitter later?

  335. the_other_matt says:

Nothing uglier than a hit and run involving 2 guys that cant run. That looked like Rusty Staub on first and Kirk Gibson at the plate. Ugly.

  336. siremisanthrope says:

what are the chances the phillies are dumb enough for a one for one trade castillo for utley haha

  337. landyg21 says:

i’m going to lay off Schoeneweis this year he’s been doing a great job so far

  338. Ludacrispat says:

i just looked at carlos delgado’s 2000 stats on the blue jays:

    frightening

    • the_other_matt says:

Same with his 2007 and 2008 numbers

    • landyg21 says:

you should look up at willie’s stats for fun and see how good he was and how clutch he was in the playoffs as a player

  339. landyg21 says:

is it me or Wise gives up a HR every appearance he makes

    • Ludacrispat says:

omar should’ve pocketed that $13 or so million and just let carlos muniz pitch: guarantee he could go the season with something like a 4.20 ERA, much cheaper option than making a stupid signing like he did with wise

  340. Ludacrispat says:

nothing like going from 0-2 to a walk when you’re the ny mets

  341. Sch. was the best 8th inning man in baseball 2 years ago………and he’s back

  342. reilly171 says:

one of the few bright spots of the year for the mets. well done SS

  343. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

I think Schoe gets a few free passes from now on.

  344. gipper82475 says:

Nice job by the Show. He has been very good this year.

  345. landyg21 says:

i wouldn’t go that far but it’s been an impressive start and he deserves to be cheered for this year so far

  346. oleosmirf says:

david needs to learn how to hid a slider

  347. Ludacrispat says:

dwright just looks baaad at the plate right now

  348. landyg21 says:

i’m not going to say it anymore, someone has to tell Wright all he’s getting is fastballs in and sliders away.

  349. gipper82475 says:

David is not in a good place at the moment.

  350. reilly171 says:

he is my fav. but he is lost right now.

  351. landyg21 says:

might i say great move by Omar not to pick up Zito

    • Ludacrispat says:

than i guess you also ahve to compliment the other 30 or so gm’s who didnt sign him?

would’ve been such a bad move from the getgo…he obviously didn’t have his vintage stuff anymore

      • landyg21 says:

lots of teams were in the running just he priced himself too high so kill the 30 GM thing

        • Ludacrispat says:

exactly…if omar isn’t as smart as those gm’s (or as dumb as brian sabean), then we got issues

          oh wait…we do

  352. oleosmirf says:

david has never been able to hit a slider. if he could learn to do that he’d be the best player in baseball

    • EliPorter says:

lets not get ahead of ourselves

    • landyg21 says:

David hit the slider last year to opposite field the only problem this year is that the fastball in is being thrown as a ball and he’s swinging at it and getting himself in a hole last year the fastball in was a strike and being blopped for a hit

  353. EliPorter says:

    who pitches the 8th inning?

  354. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Brandon Webb loses his first game, Barry Zito gets his first win. What other type of trends/streaks can end against the Fish? Can we move our game against them to Miami next week?

  355. the_other_matt says:

Guiseppe Franco! My fave. “I don’t own the company. I don’t own anything about it”

    Best line ever.

  356. landyg21 says:

    why is he still in

  357. reilly171 says:

olsen been avg. the 3 of the last 4 starts..let’s hope that continues

    uggla en fuego though

  358. MainStMets says:

    show for 8th

  359. gipper82475 says:

No Dirty….he’s sticking w/ Show for a righty, a switchy and pitcher’s spot. Dirty was warmed up.

  360. MainStMets says:

    show means iannet pinch hits
    dirty means hawpe hits

    hawpe has more power

  361. landyg21 says:

    that was a stupid play

  362. Ludacrispat says:

i never thought i would say this but….

I LOVE SCOTT SCHOENEWEISS (but only as of 5/23/08)

  363. MainStMets says:

    good showing by show

  364. reilly171 says:

    well done SS. well done

wags to face the meat and earn his $$ tonight

one more run here would be nice.

  365. dykstraw says:

it truly pains me to say this, but leaving show in for the 8th to freeze hawpe on the pine was a very uncharacteristic, and brilliant, move.

  366. Ludacrispat says:

Question: Is Tatis’ homer the first one by a Mets left-fielder this season?

  367. gipper82475 says:

Great job by Show and a rare smart move by Willie.

Maybe Omar is down the tunnel whispering instructions?

    • backinbusiness says:

Maybe Willie is stepping up his game because Omar showing up made it real for him. (One can hope.) Hey, whatever works. I’m just happy to see Endy hitting and the Show rocking.

  368. landyg21 says:

that #17 on first base is a beautiful thing

  369. MainStMets says:

tatis should be startin in LF tom afternoon

mets yanks not a 330 fox game last week, but mets rockies this week is?

  370. oleosmirf says:

they should try Tatis at first. he’s shown he can hit but he’s useless in the outfield.

  371. adam900 says:

If Wagner blows this game, I am taking a week off.

  372. Ludacrispat says:

i want a raul casanova after endy grounds out and someone stupidly says how its a productive out

  373. metsarebest says:

Willie Randolph was given a vote of confidence today
now instead of thinking about his job which he is keeping he can concentrate on managing the team
tonight is a big win to break up a bad streak
they will sweep the rockies and you heard it here first

    • gipper82475 says:

Why not post this fantasy a few dozen more times?

      • metsarebest says:

why not be a real fan and support your team instead of being a spoiled whiney brat

        • gipper82475 says:

I’ve been a Mets fan longer than you. I am supporting my team….by calling for the end of the Willie era.

Or do you support a guy who thinks SNY is out to get him? That racism is the root of the critics of the team? Or that Mets fans were hiding before our savior Willie arrived.

          Defend you hero. Please.

        • metsarebest says:

i have been a mets fan since 1962
          since DAY ONE
so you have NOT been a fan longer than me
i will be there after you have given up and moved on to other things too
why would you even assume you have been a fan longer than someone you have never met

        • gipper82475 says:

Because you write like a twelve year old?

      • EliPorter says:

        metsarebest,

have you watched the mets this year?

        • metsarebest says:

i have watched them and they have struggled
why do you have a problem with someone saying they expect them to turn it around

        • gipper82475 says:

We don’t have a problem with that. We just feel compassion for those with psycological issues. We’re trying to help you by introducing some reality.

          As I posted above:

“It bothers us when we see people who are sick. It is so sad. Delusions like Willie’s “It is SNY’s fault I look bad” or your “We’re going to October with Willie” sentiments are just sad. We all hope that you and Willie get the help you need.”

        • metsarebest says:

too bad you are such a fraud of a fan that you can not believe this team can make the playoffs with willie as manager
go find a team you can have more faith in because you are NOT a mets fan by any means
there must be SOME other team out there for you to boo

        • gipper82475 says:

No, I am such a true fan that I want them to end this misbegotten Willie-era.

I am not going away. I have been true to the orange and blue through thick and thin. That doesn’t mean I thought they’d make the playoffs in the Bamberger era, either. Did that make me a bad fan or a person with a working set of eyes and a brain?

PS: Do they no longer teach capitalization or punctuation in the third grade?

    • oleosmirf says:

vote of confidence has nothing to do the way the team plays.

Mets were lucky so far tonight. If we were playing a halfway decent team the game would have been over 2 hours ago.

  374. MainStMets says:

i thought the point was to bring up raul so castro could pinch hit?

why do it the other way?

  375. EliPorter says:

    one more run….

  376. khmustache says:

is casanova the slowest big leaguer alive?

  377. wa2k99 says:

    Let’s go Sandman!!!!

  378. landyg21 says:

willie has to manage like it’s his last game every game, one day maybe soon it just might be.

  379. MainStMets says:

hes only had 8 at bats ths yr

  380. adam11216 says:

    ridiculous.

  381. Its a big game for the mets and consequently……………

  382. Jefferies 9 says:

    OMG !!!

  383. Ludacrispat says:

    heartbreak….

  384. MainStMets says:

    gary jinxs us again!

cant talk abt wagners o earned runs

let me guess thats also willies fault

    • gipper82475 says:

Your formatting and spelling/capitalization are oddly similar to “metsarebest.”

I guess you buy into Willie’s “it’s all SNY’s fault” theory.

  385. EliPorter says:

im going to quote billy wagner here: “f—ing shocker”

this man has a 8.71 era in the postseason. are you surprised he blew the biggest save of the season?

    • mrosey says:

dude. are you serious. Wagner has been the most intense and the most consistent player on this team. He was bound to let one up eventually and considering that he is the closer after all, it was bound to be in a tight spot.

    • wa2k99 says:

How can you compare a game in May to a playoff game. Totally off the wall.

  386. dykstraw says:

    i mean

we all knew that was coming right

  387. By Mets I meant Billy wagner

  388. backinbusiness says:

It was due to come soon. Of course it would come now.

  389. adam11216 says:

omar sold his soul to the devil to get santana.

  390. wa2k99 says:

    Should anyone be surprised…

  391. WrightsRight says:

    well, that sucks

  392. We had so many chances to put more runs on the board. You let these teams hang around…………

  393. EliPorter says:

hahahaha billy wagner…. that dumbass fan in the background needs to keep her mouth shut

  394. MainStMets says:

whats he going to say at his locker tonight>

“im the closer, i blew the game, f’n shocker?

  395. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    who didn’t see this coming?

  396. Ludacrispat says:

and now delgado can gloat and billy can run away…

because the games are meaningless but the lockeroom is vitale

    oh billy….you bastardo

  397. khmustache says:

billy’s interview had better be an hour long tonight

  398. EliPorter says:

to all the reporters: ask billy questions. this guy is a gutless coward who talks a big game but cant get a big save. ryan zimmerman, so tagucchi, matt holliday….

  399. metsforever says:

can’t blame Willie on this one. Wagner had to come in. Pretty much figured on something like this though. He was due and it is a big game.

I can’t believe that one. No 1 run wins on the road. Pathetic

  400. WrightsRight says:

i wish he gave up some runs the other night so we could quit talking about his spotless era…

  401. MainStMets says:

    GAME OVER

  402. EliPorter says:

not only does he blow the save, but he also blows the game…. GUTLESS

  403. Ludacrispat says:

    we were 2 outs away….

we really are the laughingstock of baseball…we really are

  404. WrightsRight says:

just dreadful….absolutely dreadful…mets should watch, learn, listen…this is how you come back late in a game..

  405. khmustache says:

nice hope luis…done and done…mets lose

  406. landyg21 says:

lmao this is a beautiful thing for all the people who want Willie out. He won’t survive this collapse

  407. stickguy says:

I waslk in the house as they are going to the middle of the ninth. Am I smart enough to stay away fro Gameday and go to bed? No, I just had to log in to see if they could actually win a game.

Even worse, all the teams ahead of them got smoked, wo they could have picked up a game on everyone.

    Thanks Billy.

  408. backinbusiness says:

    Eesh. Thank you Brian.

  409. GordonGekko says:

Did anyone really believe we were going to win this?

  410. Wagner is part of the problem. Blowwing games left and right last september and any big game I can think of

  411. Ludacrispat says:

    why wasnt that a DP!?!?!?!?

  412. toomanyuniforms says:

Well, I think this answers the question as to whether some blown saves are worse than others. . . . .

So cruel — Castillo, Delgado and Tatis win the day. Wagner and Wright blow it. Shows you what we know.

  413. MainStMets says:

all kinds of new user names makin posts now, hmmm the vultures hover when its a collapse like this

  414. NickA33 says:

I hate it as much as anyone else but give Wagner a break. He’s been lights out all year and held a 0.00 ERA up until now. Did you really expect him to be perfect for the entire season? Wouldn’t it stand to reason that every situation a Closer comes into is a game winning/losing situation?

Yea, bad timing but give the guy a break. He’s been one of the more consistant players on our team this year.

    • GordonGekko says:

Right on. Willie is gonna use his guy Homerun Heilman to take the loss in the 10th with a walk off

  415. Ludacrispat says:

i was begging…absolutely pleading with scott podsednik to just end my misery…

but no, it will go on for another 1-2 innings just to torture me

  416. wa2k99 says:

Win just delayed. Yes, I’m trying to retain a little optimism…

  417. Flushing_is_Burning says:

that FOX broadcast is going to be a dream to watch tomorrow. Can’t wait for what Ken Rosenthal has to say

  418. backinbusiness says:

Top of the order…For old time’s sake, let’s pretend that’s a good thing. LGM.

  419. metsarebest says:

    everybody just RELAX ok
the mets will score in the 10th
they are not losing this game

  420. WrightsRight says:

still have a chance…let’s see them step up for a change..

  421. Wagner is so inconsistent though. The only thing we know is that he will have an ERA of 9 in september

  422. oleosmirf says:

wagner gives up a run after 18 scoreless innings and some of you are complaining b/c one of the best players in the game hits a chip shot barely over the wall.

thats a fly out at shea…give me a break.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

EASY. Obviously, people are going to be frustrated, and let’s face it — that was a very important opportunity, and he didn’t get the save. Came back to salvage the inning, though, which is commendable.

    • Flushing_is_Burning says:

can’t complaint about Billy. HIm, Church and Show (yes, I said it) are the only highlights of this season so far. they had opportunities to get Wagner so cushion, just couldn’t make it happen

  423. Boooooo says:

give wagner a break is right

    blame it on the hitters..

another bumb pitcher… another poor performance by d wright, beltran, reyes, etc..

this offense is just pathetic rigt now.

    • WrightsRight says:

I agree – wags has been awesome this year, this was bound to happen at some point.

    • gipper82475 says:

What’s a bumb? Is that anything like being a bum? Or is this some strange, new class of lazy layabout that I’ve been unaware of?

  424. Thats the initiator of 2006

  425. MainStMets says:

    thats how you hustle

cmon say it, hats how you run out of an inning

  426. Ludacrispat says:

jose reyes- possibly the turning point in the season right there

    • toomanyuniforms says:

If only. . . . but hey, why not?

      FINISH.

    • NickA33 says:

I love the optimisim but lets wait until he’s a bit more consistant.

I will give him credit for the 100% hustle from the time he got the hit until he slid into 2nd though.

    • backinbusiness says:

no, that’s the turning point from the yankee wins turning point of the maine throwing at nats turning point.

      but i take your…point.

  427. adam11216 says:

nice HUSTLE jose. he looks fed up, which is good. he yelled at the ball when you caught the third out.

  428. WrightsRight says:

hah, nice hustle…running hard out of the box….

  429. Jay says:

Nice play Jose!!! That’s some fire!

  430. Boooooo says:

i must say, some met fans make me embarassed to wear the blue an orange

  431. oleosmirf says:

bunt him over but typical mets would leave reyes on 3rd with 1 out

  432. backinbusiness says:

Nice to see Reyes hustle and the OTHER team lollygag for once!
Also nice to see Reyes seizing on the ground (”I’m safe! I’m safe!”) for a full minute after the call.

  433. HITorDIE25 says:

Great hustle!! Theres life…exciting baseball again

  434. MainStMets says:

reyes never slowed down out of the box, rounding 1st

  435. gipper82475 says:

Hustle? On the 2008 Mets? Fine that player! Unacceptable!

    ;-)

    Nicely done, Jose!

  436. khmustache says:

nice camera work there…23 games in a row on base…jose has quietly stepped up his game

  437. Jay says:

Ok here we go. This is castillos job. He has to get this bunt down.

  438. MainStMets says:

    wow

  439. adam11216 says:

ok – that seals it. they really are trying to get willie fired.

  440. Ludacrispat says:

    jose reyes- kill yourself

  441. WrightsRight says:

MY GOODNESS, ARE YOU &*%^$#@ ME???!!

  442. metsforever says:

    More great baserunning.

    These guys do totally suck

  443. MainStMets says:

    here it comes

  444. oleosmirf says:

how do you get picked off???????

  445. Boooooo says:

    THERE IS YOUR FN SCAPEGOAT!!!!!

  446. gipper82475 says:

    Wow.

    When will the misery end?

How many fundamental baserunning mistakes have been made in the last two weeks by Willie’s guys?

    • NickA33 says:

I agree but who do you blame for that? Willie? He’s not out on the base paths getting picked off or doubled up on.

      It’s stupid mental mistakes….just stupid. God, I’m so pissed…

      • gipper82475 says:

The players mostly. But at some point the manager and coaches have to discipline, instruct and correct, no?

Of course, if you are too busy worrying about SNY plotting to get you, it’s hard to work your team through some fundamental baserunning drills.

        • adam11216 says:

seriously. if you can’t, at some point, hold the manager resopnsible for mental errors, why even have a manager at all?

        • NickA33 says:

I’m not saying I disagree, b/c I don’t but I just think that fundimentals are harder to teach at that level. I know it sounds odd but fundimentals are built into a player from Day 1 of baseball. So when you have a player who’s in their 20’s, 30’s…or in our case 40’s it’s a lot harder to adjust.

At this point, I’m not sure what the solution is. I’m sure if there is one both the players and managers have either talked about them or are working on them.

I’m just frustrated that a team that should be contending for the NL East is playing this poorly.

We’re not out of the running yet but we’re not considered favorites….for anything.

        • gipper82475 says:

          I feel you NickA33, we’re all depressed.

      • toomanyuniforms says:

Come on. This excuse gets really old, really fast. On some level, if players who have been able to play in the past forget their fundamentals and are completely lost, you have to blame the manager. What is his job?

  447. MudvilleNine says:

    BALK!!!!!!!

    • MudvilleNine says:

He balked as soon as he brought his leg down and then brought it up to spin around. The leg coming down is stepping toward home, you cant pick the leg back up to turn around. It all has to be in one motion. Pick the leg up then spin, not pick it up, start to bring it down forward, then pick it up again and spin. Thats a balk.

    • iluvbuckner says:

Why the hell was that NOT a balk? Who the hell is watching these games on the field? Awful…just plain awful.

  448. MainStMets says:

thats like the 5th bad baserunning move by this team in the last 10 days

  449. Boooooo says:

IS THAT THREE TIMES IN A WEEK??????

THI TEAM NEEDS TO GO TO THE LITTLE LEAGUE FIELDS AND LEARN HOW TO PLAY BASE BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    REYES NEEDS TO BE BENCHED!!!!!

  450. metsarebest says:

some of you should just find a team you think you would have more fun watching and go boo them instead of booing this one
you are part of the problem

    • Boooooo says:

yeah, that makes a lot of sense… sorry willie…

    • bootlegga24 says:

Shouldnt you be sleeping right now? You cant possibly be older than 11 years old

    • gipper82475 says:

      metsarebest,

So, the Mets fans booing at Turner Field led to the sweep? The Mets fans booing at Coors led to Wags blowing the save and to Jose’s baserunning blunder? How does that work?

Blind support of Randolph does not necessarily equal “true fandom.”

Did you even read Cerrone’s interview with Darryl where he dismissed the “boogate” whiners as silly and said it’s always been like that at Shea and that the Mets fans are the best and he missed their passion when he was in LA?

Of course you missed that – because this is the first time you’ve been on Metsblog.

Oh – and great job by Willie teaching his guys to run the bases correctly. Or was he too busy dreaming up plots against him by SNY in Spring Training to do those drills?

  451. mrosey says:

Please hit a homer David. Please

  452. adam900 says:

I have never seen such a dumb ****en player in my life. Good night guys.

  453. Jay says:

Reyes has to be one of the most maddening players I’ve ever rooted for. So much talent, yet so little baseball sense at times.

  454. gdfther412 says:

    the magic is back

  455. EliPorter says:

    picked off at 2nd……………..

  456. cousinrk says:

If they had a camera on the broadcast booth they would have shown Keith banging his head on the table.

  457. c.1970 says:

I have some great sour diesel for my fellow masochists.

  458. siremisanthrope says:

is this team trying to get him fired?

  459. EliPorter says:

wright looks really scared out there

  460. metsforever says:

I didn’t go for the player conspiracy before, I just thought they couldn’t play. Now I’m coming around to believe that they want him gone. Reyes especially. His mind is totally off.

    And what happenned to Wright?

  461. WrightsRight says:

There is aggressiveness and then there sheer stupidity….

  462. Boooooo says:

way to step up with your bat david…

    rusty gate anyone?

  463. domosnacks5 says:

The number of baserunning mistakes in the past week by this club has been repulsive. Only one person can be blamed for these stupid mistakes due to lack of preparation, and that’s Willie. If he isn’t gone by Monday, I’m really going to be upset. I tried to get away for a night from watching this crap, I come home and see Wags blow it, then Reyes really blow it.

    • MudvilleNine says:

Blame Willie for not going out to argue that it was a balk. It was clear that it was a balk. Once you start your leg down from your kick you cant bring it back up to spin. Balk. Just watch the replay if they show the pitcher again.

      • domosnacks5 says:

I was thinking the same. But let’s just count a few off of mind from the past few games.

Reyes 3rd base blunder vs Washington
Beltran getting doubled up vs Washington
Wright getting doubled up last night
Reyes getting picked off just now
Alou getting picked off against the Yanks
Beltran getting caught between 2nd and third last night on a ball infront of him

I know there were others, but this is a direct reflection on the manager not having the team ready to play, with their heads in the clouds. It’s really time to bring somebody in that will shake things up. Think the White Sox will loan us Ozzie for a few weeks?

    • mets gang says:

This is the dumbest post i have seen so far! Its willie’s fault that a major league baseball player is making dumb mistakes on the bases. These are veteran players Willie sholdnt have to baby them. They know the game.

      • domosnacks5 says:

No, it’s really not. It’s a managers responsibility to have his players knowing what they are doing in what situation, and clearly the Mets do not. There’s also no reprecussion for making a bonehad play on the bases, which there should be. If you can’t recognize this then you’re a complete fool.

  464. khmustache says:

impossible to come back here…when will this misery end?

  465. F k WIllie. They made the same mistake yesterday. THEY ARE PLAYING AWFUL BASEBALL. Not hitting may not be his fault, but these mistakes are

  466. toomanyuniforms says:

That was a pretty sorry display, folks.

  467. backinbusiness says:

Let’s just bring in Heilman and get this over with.

  468. GordonGekko says:

    This team needs an enema

  469. wa2k99 says:

The only question is how many batters will it take for the Rockies to win this game this inning.

  470. Flushing_is_Burning says:

Wise or Heilman? pick ur poison.

  471. WrightsRight says:

where have you gone David? he’s a shadow…and that inning was a microcosm of reyes – incredibly thrilling and downright frustrating rolled into one….

  472. Ludacrispat says:

Haha I thought it was a joke that they just want to make the losses more upsetting than the last, but I guess it is just the truth.

By the way, the Rockies are 11 games under .500…would you have thunk that the way they have played and how pumped they are?

  473. metsforever says:

Anybody think that Wagner gets out of this inning?

  474. Jefferies 9 says:

Reyes sometimes plays like the second coming of Roger Cedeno

  475. WrightsRight says:

this team must lead the league in getting picked off..

  476. Boooooo says:

    oh

    my

    goodness

  477. MainStMets says:

reyres gettin picked is no w ay on willie, get over it

    • gipper82475 says:

And the 8 other baserunning errors over the last 10 games that Howie just went apedoodie over on WFAN??

I mean, yes the players SHOULD know better. But, if they don’t show that they know better….who is to blame? At some point it is up to the manager and coaching staff to instruct, correct, etc. No?

  478. metsforever says:

    Wright again?

This is a nightmare that never goes away.

  479. WrightsRight says:

    ….for the “gold glover” wright….

  480. backinbusiness says:

That is the second eff up by David on a Yorvit Torrealba at-bat. I think David is going to have a meltdown right there in the field. If YT is the winning run they should send someone home with David.

    • oleosmirf says:

someones gotta take him to a strip joint or something. take his mind of everything…

  481. EliPorter says:

dont bother throwing to first, billy. only the mets get picked off

  482. Ludacrispat says:

Willie has to go immediately. His depressing managing is now getting into the minds of the golden boys of this franchise.

  483. oleosmirf says:

i really hope pedro comes back soon. They really miss his antics in the dugout.

  484. bootlegga24 says:

the older players on this team are proving theyre washed up and the younger players are regressing. Willies gotta go immediately before wright and reyes are permanently damaged

  485. wa2k99 says:

Last time I checked Willie doesn’t field the grounders and run the bases.

    • bootlegga24 says:

The mets do everything wrong. Is the manager responsible for anything? Maybe the mets dont need a manager

  486. MainStMets says:

wow if willie left church on the bench to pinch hit johan, theyd hang him

  487. Ludacrispat says:

OMG guys…c’mon, you know Aaron Cook has to get a hit here. It’d be too good.

  488. Willies team meeting:
LETS JUST HIT THE BUCKET, BOYS. Lets make stupid errors, and baserunning blunders and play awful baseball. Hey Delgado, you don’t have to play hard at first, its alright. Lets not learn from our mistakes. Lets Suck.
(winking to jerry manuel) It doesn’t matter I have Omar’s vote of confidence

  489. howellmetsfan says:

Im starting to ask myself….Are Reyes and Wright INTENTIONALLY trying to get Willie Fired? Cause if I didnt know any better id say it sure looks like this. I sware this team is so reminicent of the 2002 era, 1993 era mets.

  490. WrightsRight says:

dude, if we get beat by a pinch-hitting pitcher…..

  491. wa2k99 says:

Oh my gosh a pitcher hitting

  492. toomanyuniforms says:

David needs to calm the !%@#% down. . . .

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “First you whine about ‘fire’ and ‘passion’, and now you want the guy to bring it down a notch?”

No — it was never about unharnessed energy and emotion. It’s about playing crisply and aggressively with focus and confidence. That’s been my complaint the whole time. The Mets seem to be all over the place mentally except in that zone.

  493. SethH says:

I agree with Mudville Nine. That was one of the most obvious balks I have ever seen. Where was Willie? Where were the base coaches? You have to be kidding me.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

It looked funny to me, too, but that doesn’t absolve Reyes. . . .

      • toomanyuniforms says:

If you feel a chill from the bowels of the earth and the Mets pull this off, Wright needs to sit tomorrow. Seriously. Worked for Francoeur.

      • MudvilleNine says:

Sure it does. You see the pitcher’s leg going down as if toward home, you’re trying to get a good secondary lead to get to third on the bunt. Your not expecting the pitcher to repick up his leg and then spin because its illegal. Its a balk.

  494. EliPorter says:

“the older players on this team are proving theyre washed up and the younger players are regressing. Willies gotta go immediately before wright and reyes are permanently damaged”- bootlegga

very well said. great rid of this piece of crap manager. oh and willie, you should get fired bc you are a bum, not because youre black

  495. Ludacrispat says:

omg the mets and rockies just switched uniforms!!!!

  496. metsforever says:

    Does Yorvit watch SNY?

  497. backinbusiness says:

I just found our Defensive Catcher (!)

  498. WrightsRight says:

okay…maybe other teams do make more stupid running mistakes than the mets…

  499. MudvilleNine says:

See? Stupidity happens on other teams.

  500. Jay says:

hahahaha…. wow you can really tell this is the battle between two really bad teams.

  501. khmustache says:

former met (almost) with the baserunning error…go figure

  502. MainStMets says:

take a seat you fat bastrd!!!!!

    keith is beside himself

  503. dykstraw says:

that was the most ridiculous half inning ever

    FIRE CLINT HURDLE

  504. wa2k99 says:

    We turned a DP?! Amazing!

  505. metsforever says:

I think Keith just jumped out of the booth

  506. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Wow, the Rockies let Jose off the hook.

  507. soulsea says:

Dear God, the Mets are playing the Mets.

  508. gipper82475 says:

Wow. That Rockies play was so bad, it’s almost Willie-era Mets-esque.

  509. howellmetsfan says:

This is an Epic battle of who wants it least

  510. I could understand not firing him justs because they aren’t hitting. But pickoffs, errors. Its awful

    • gipper82475 says:

Then there are the paranoid delusions about SNY. And the crack about how we were all in hiding prior to the arrival of his Willieness.

      Oh, …and that collapse thingy.

  511. oleosmirf says:

if it was so obvious the guys in the booth would have said something.

lets all thank the rockies for being as dumb as the mets…

  512. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Let’s get a run fellas!!!!!

  513. Omar would have signed him if he passed had his physical

  514. metsarebest says:

    mets will win

    • gipper82475 says:

      Someday.

      Bound to happen.

Even the worst teams win 60 or so.

Or, were those teams really good but just showed as being bad by SNY? So hard to figure, with Willie-logic.

  515. metsforever says:

This is almost worth it to listen to Keith and Gary.

    • gipper82475 says:

I so wish I had the SNY feed. Stuck synching WFAN audio feed with Rox vidoe feed on mute.

Even Howie and Wayne nearly fell out of their booth onthat Rox play. Howie wanted to throttle Willie after the Jose pickoff for the utter lack of fundamentals the team exhibits. Entertaining in their own right.

  516. Jay says:

We’re going to score this inning. Mark it down… in pencil please.

  517. Boooooo says:

wow beltran hit a shot.. almost made it past the pitcher

  518. GordonGekko says:

Willie lost these players a long time ago. I just hope he brings out Homerun Heilman for the big embarrassing finale to his days as manager…and then blames everything on Billy Wagner and his 0.0000001 ERA

  519. oleosmirf says:

it’s like the southpark episode where the teams are losing on purpose b/c they dont want to play little league anymore…

  520. backinbusiness says:

Met fans may be brutalizing masochists, but there is some funny ish on this board tonight.

    Delgado!

  521. WrightsRight says:

should have casto pinch-run for delgado…

  522. MainStMets says:

that a boy carlos, gonna single handedly win this for us

  523. metsarebest says:

boy that Delgado is just horrible !!

  524. Yes, lets watch the mets blow another opportuninty

  525. Ludacrispat says:

remember in like ‘04 when jason jennings debuted against at shea and not only dominated but hit a homer and had a few hits to boot?

    good times

  526. domosnacks5 says:

Can SNY turn down the crowd mics. These annoying fux chanting everyone’s name is actually drowning out Ron and Keith, and really pissing the poo out of me.

  527. howellmetsfan says:

How much does it suck that Delgado has been hitting the ball better then The Golden Boy lately?!!!!

Watch mets win this game and Delgado tells media that people need to look in the mirror before criticizing others

  528. Finally good baseball

  529. toomanyuniforms says:

Clearly the baseball deities are punishing Met fans and David Wright alike. For weeks, he’s the only one that cares, and then it’s the team’s third nipple (Delgads) who has the “big” game. (”Big” relative to the others’, that is.)

  530. teufelshuffle86 says:

    DELGADO HUSTLING!!

  531. metsforever says:

Does Carlos have the hold sign?

  532. Boooooo says:

can schneider get a fn hit??????????????

  533. soulsea says:

    he’s gonna steal home

  534. Boooooo says:

schneider was signed for defense, but his defense has been awful.. he has NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bat

  535. toomanyuniforms says:

    Oof.

  536. howellmetsfan says:

In the immortal words of the Great Casey Stengal…..

    “Can anybody play this game?”!!!!!

  537. jsr530 says:

Flashbacks of Dante Bichette are coming back to me. There is now way that Holliday, Atkins and Helton don’t hit a HR here.

  538. In the imortal words of casey stengel:
“If we can lose with him [Willie] we can lose without him]”

  539. Boooooo says:

can we pinch hit that giant guy taking up three seats behind the plate?

maybe he can get a run home

  540. khmustache says:

    i hate these rockie uniforms

  541. adam11216 says:

the rockies uniforms are really stupid looking. what’s with the fake muscle shirt look?

  542. adam11216 says:

nice catch. nice inning by sanchez.

  543. Thats why I don’t mind Beltran as much as Delgado

  544. EliPorter says:

not to rehash on an old subject, but dont you think yorvit torrealba would fit in perfectly on the mets?

    great catch, c-los

  545. MainStMets says:

gold glove,,,,this games gonna go all night

  546. WrightsRight says:

    great, great catch

  547. Jay says:

    Nice play beltran!!!

  548. howellmetsfan says:

    Great inning by Dirty

  549. backinbusiness says:

Props to Beltran, who doesn’t get them nearly enough. Great D.

  550. Ludacrispat says:

i am rooting for the rockies and the mets are looking good.

    GOO ROCKIES!

  551. metsarebest says:

    we go to the 12th
    mets are hanging in
no quit from this team tonight
they score a few runs here and set the rockies down 1-2-3
    and mets win

  552. GordonGekko says:

Every innings just brings us closer to Heilman

  553. MudvilleNine says:

    Last inning

  554. backinbusiness says:

If my eyes did not just deceive me, the Mets better score > 5 runs this half inning.

  555. WrightsRight says:

uh-oh…better get a lead now because Heilman is warming up…

  556. EliPorter says:

you know what would have been smart… if willie had pulled off the double switch last inning. take schneider out and replace him with the pitchers slot and have castro bat in the 9 hole. this would allow the mets to go to sanchez for more than 1 inning and prevent having to use heilman.

  557. Heilman’s warming up

  558. EliPorter says:

kevin burkhardt, get a real job!

  559. toomanyuniforms says:

Heilman must look like a big juicy steak to those Rockie hitters. . . .

  560. soulsea says:

Oh my God, we have resorted to players with brain injuries.

  561. cousinrk says:

Gasoline on Fire is ready to come in. At least only a solo homer will beat us instead of his usual 2 run homer

  562. GordonGekko says:

Is it just me or does every one on here knows exactly what’s going to happen?

  563. howellmetsfan says:

This is another Casey quote the Wilpons can use when the fire Willie on Monday….

“Son, we’d like to keep you around this season but we’re going to try and win a pennant.”

  564. Boooooo says:

    YES!!!!

    Heilman coming in…

well at least if he blows this game, maybe hll get left in colorado

  565. Ludacrispat says:

wtf is reyes doing on 3-1????

  566. I think casey should manage. He’d do a better job from the grave then willie is doing from the dugout

  567. adam11216 says:

can willie please protect his player. he has no bench left.

    • backinbusiness says:

Willie (and Nieto?) did the right thing there in restraining Reyes.

      • adam11216 says:

felt a little slow to react to me, but maybe i’m wrong. reyes didn’t get tossed, which is the important thing i guess.

  568. WrightsRight says:

castro can play short if reyes is ejected

  569. backinbusiness says:

Reyes better chill the eff out. Does he want Castro to play short?

  570. toomanyuniforms says:

Sweet. Keep staring at it, you idiot.

  571. Reyez can’t get thrown out, they have noone to play SS

  572. EliPorter says:

thats where willie needs to get ejected

    • adam11216 says:

he at least needs to take the heat off reyes. why was the first base coach the first guy there?

  573. Boooooo says:

its the NY “WHY PROTECT THE FKN PLATE WHEN YOU CNA HOPE ITS A BALL” METS

god almighty, i hope omar shoves a bat up reyes’ azz

  574. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Horrible call. COME ON!!!!

  575. WrightsRight says:

Heilman coming in…i hope the folks in Colorado Springs are in their front yards with mitts on…

  576. jsr530 says:

This can’t end pretty. Not a chance. Time to go to Vegas and bet a HR against Heilman. Problem is you can only win 50 cents for every 10 dollar bet with Heilman on the mound.

  577. Ludacrispat says:

willie- GET EJECTED ALREADY! THIS GAME IS OVER IN 4.5 MINTUES ANYWAY!

  578. howellmetsfan says:

Well Nice to see we have waved the white flag.

    Guess we’ll get them tomorrow

  579. khmustache says:

    g*d d****t…heilman

  580. Why isn’t feliciano pitching

    • backinbusiness says:

he has pitched the last 3 days, incl. 2 innings two nights ago. acc. to the booth.

  581. Jay says:

Does Helton, Spillborghs, or Podsednik hit it?

  582. Boooooo says:

hey, lefties are only hitting 389 against heilman, no worries

  583. metsarebest says:

    aaron will step up here
    come on aaron
    1-2-3 inning

  584. MainStMets says:

    1 down

  585. dr jones says:

that ball almost hit the dirt. That was another chance to show your team you have there back.. Instead it took willie almost a min to get out there.. When is he gonna do what he says. He says he protects his players.. Fighting for them once in a blue moon would go far.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

      Behind closed doors, he’ll argue with the ump. . . .. . Yeah, that’;s it. . . .

    • WrightsRight says:

i think his first priority was just making sure jose didn’t get run…or else mike herbst would have to throw on a uniform and play SS…

      • dr jones says:

one day wel’ll wake up turn on the cpu and the front page of Mets blog read……..

  586. teufelshuffle86 says:

Is Heilman really that worse than anyone else on this team right now? Is there someone on this team who would make you any more comfortable.

  587. WrightsRight says:

jose is angry…but Baseball 101 dictates that you protect the plate in counts like that….

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Not trying to make excuses but that was an awful call. I can’t blame Jose there. If he swung and missed everyone would be yelling at him to be more patient. Can’t have it both ways. Bad call. What can you do?

    1000 freaking comments

  592. metsarebest says:

willie did the right thing there
    no reason to argue there
the objective was to get reyes out of there so he did not get thrown out of the game

  593. EliPorter says:

this guy is a pest on the bases

  594. backinbusiness says:

Castillo’s “hustle” is like a quick waddle.

  595. WrightsRight says:

jeez…look at castillo…he could barely get to that…like an 80-year old man….here’s to four more years!

  596. EliPorter says:

hey keith, not everyone is hurt

  597. Ludacrispat says:

  606. howellmetsfan says:

Ok who is the guy wearing the Heilman Jersey, and what did he do with Aaron? And how much will it cost to keep Aaron there?

  607. gipper82475 says:

Nice! Poopie-face starts his turnaround tonight!

  608. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Hm, maybe Heilman’s role is extra innings guy? That would only ensure that fans would want no extra innings games ever again.

  609. Ludacrispat says:

let’s all do a shot whenever:

    a) we regret having luis castillo for four more years
    b) a mets player makes a baserunning mistake
    c) willie randolph does someting dumb
    d) carlos delgado swings through a pitch way out of the strike zone

WE’LL BE DRUNK IN 10 MINUTES!

  610. teufelshuffle86 says:

    nice

  611. MudvilleNine says:

Hey! That wasnt Heilman’s fault. He threw a hittable pitch up there. Their guy just missed it. Blame him.

  612. toomanyuniforms says:

Decent games tonight (thus far, anyway): Delgado. Heilman. Chavez.

    Crud: Wright. Wagner. Reyes.

    Sigh.

  613. soulsea says:

I think Reyes just got picked off in the dugout

  614. oleosmirf says:

Good night. I’ll read about the 27 inning victory tomorrow.

  620. Michael Scott says:

Who’s left on our bench and bullpen?

  621. gipper82475 says:

With this light of a bench…I forsee the possibility of a McDowell/Orosco LF/pitcher platoon like Davey used to do.

  622. GordonGekko says:

    To quote McBain: MENDOZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

  623. soulsea says:

So, what DO you do in denver when you’re dead?

  624. Boooooo says:

what are the chances heilman goes two scoreless???

    a. 1 in a million
    b. no chance at all
    c. hillary clinton has a better chance
    d. obbamma has a better chance

  625. Ludacrispat says:

Luis Castillo: You need to go home right now. Pathetic range.

    Game over this inning.

  626. gipper82475 says:

Boy, I dunnp. I know it’s late extra innings but why not let Aaron get out on a positive note after his good inning? Why put him out there to fail?

  627. Boooooo says:

i hope that francis homers off heilman

castillo realy pounced on that one

  628. khmustache says:

cohen “there’s castillo’s lack of range costing the mets”

    i’m pretty sure he’s 85 years old

  629. MainStMets says:

    hes gon do it again

  630. Boooooo says:

    YES!!!!

  632. Ludacrispat says:

    aaron heilman is dumb

    jeff francis is stupid

but i am sure jeff francis will still walk

  633. MainStMets says:

they were amazed that francis was bunting on 3-0

    2 down lets go heilman

  634. MudvilleNine says:

You know Billy has already left the stadium for the hotel.

  635. gipper82475 says:

    • Boooooo says:

get real.. its on the bumb offense of reyes, wright and beltran..

i put it on the azz hole reyes for getting picked off of second

wagner gave up a run, no biggie.. heilman sucks, you know two innings, he just cant do that.

  641. metsarebest says:

    game over
the mets managed to hang in right until the end
they showed some real guts tonight
the rest of the weekend they will take 2 out of 3 and start to turn things around
the best thing to happen today was Willie Randolph getting the vote of confidence from his bosses
they can put this game behind them and start playing the kind of baseball we expect them to play
    this team will be fine

  642. Ludacrispat says:

    and so it ends

and we decided to pitch to one of the best players in the league?

i knew that luis castillo didn’t have range but he seemed to be non-existent there

haha oh well…bye bye willie…good riddens

  643. Boooooo says:

can we start the season over?

  644. khmustache says:

hmmm an mvp candidate coming through…that would be nice

  645. gipper82475 says:

    I love Willieball!

    That’s 5 in a row.

Sign suggestions for Monday at Shea?

    How about:

“Willie: We never were in hiding. You should be.”

  646. WrightsRight says:

    ,,,and so it goes….

on a happier note, i do have holliday on my fantasy team

but that doesn’t make me too happy…

  647. MudvilleNine says:

Another ball Delgado just heads to first on, not knowing where Castillo was positioned. Makes no effort to get to it because he thinks Castillo is right there to field it. Pathetic.

    • Boooooo says:

yeah where the hell was castillo… that ball was hit to second..

or at least where the second baseman usually is

      • MudvilleNine says:

He was playing up the middle but your firstbaseman is suppose to look before the pitch to see where he is to know how much ground you have to cover. How far you have to come off firstbase to cover the hole between himself and Castillo. He never looks, thats why lots of balls go through that hole without him even giving it a glance.

  648. oleosmirf says:

well at least oliver pitched well

  649. mookie says:

ahhhhhhh salt to the wound. Man this really really blows.

  650. mets gang says:

how can you pitch to holiday? sigh…

    • Boooooo says:

because he ws 0-4 vs heilman and atkins was 2-3

mr numbers pulls through again!!!! i wouldve pitched to atkins, being that holiday hit the tying homerun

  651. LIMetfan74 says:

Game over! Season over! This team chokes once again!

  652. GordonGekko says:

Please for the love of God let this be the end of the Willieball era

  653. Boooooo says:

    FIRE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  654. Boooooo says:

you think heilman will be executed at gunpoint, or by stoning?

  655. metsarebest says:

when willie came on board they lost five straight to start his managerial career
and a year later they JUST MISSED making it to the world series
they have recovered from losing five straight before and they will do it again
ten days from now everyone will laugh about how worried they were back on MAY 23RD
it is MAY 23RD and they are 4.5 GAMES OUT
    this team will be fine
    CALM DOWN

  656. soulsea says:

I changed my mind Morpheus, I want the blue pill!

  657. teufelshuffle86 says:

Got to get worse before it gets better. These losses are just what the doctor ordered. Let them lose 5 more in a row.

I honestly think they need to give Willie until the ASB. If the Mets are out of it by then, get rid of him. A new manager isn’t going to turn a team around in mid-season anyway (in fact they usually make it worse). If everyone is already declaring the season over then give him another month. What could it hurt? At some point the players have to step up and just play the game.

  658. GordonGekko says:

Willie Randolph = Managing For Dummies
Omar Minaya = Spend, Spend, Long-term contracts, Spend
Wilpon Family = Let’s wait and see how this plays out

  659. MetfanMD says:

    Gaaarrryyy Carter….clap clap clapclapclap…..

Hopefully we will get to see Evans (an actual outfielder) in left field tomorrow….i hope they call up Carp (1B) to play first….

and then pick up some guy off the street to play 2nd base….(preferably under the age of 40)

  660. oleosmirf says:

if the mets are gonna make moves it has to be to get rid of everyone.

Even though willie might be a great guy he’s a bad in game manager.

Omar and his staff has done a terrible job with the team also.

The mets need to rebuild this team around Reyes, Wright, Church, Santana, and Maine.

Get rid of Delgado, Castillo, and Perez and bring in some good young prospects and continue to draft good players.

    • MetfanMD says:

I agree…..omar is just as responsible for this mess as willie and the players….i would get rid of willie first because its the easiest move to make first…..let omar try to wheel and deal and get some of these guys (castillo and delgado) out of here and some fresh players in…..and bring in a manager that can communicate a winning attitude to this players and change the mood in the clubhouse….and if omar cant fix this…..give em the ax at the end of the yr…..and let a new GM shape this team …. i feel like reyes and wright are taking this losing the most and worst and something needs to be done to save these guys

      • oleosmirf says:

omar made the mess and he’s not going to admit it nor be willing to get rid of the guys he brought in. The ego is way too big.

The mets need to either clean house or just let everything work itself out and hope for the best.

    • GordonGekko says:

      100% true

  661. EliPorter says:

“luis castillo usually doesnt play day games after night games because of his banged up knees”

4 more years! 4 more years!
