Like ANY Braves fan can talk about “choking” away a season? Last I checked The “Mighty” Braves won 1 measly championship in 14 years as division leaders

Someone should respond with a song called “How Does It Feel?” and the song should be about being a fan of a team who was always so close to being the best…. but choking it away year after year.

On second thought, the song should be called “Blue Balls”

i would love to have won a championship in the last 14 years.

also, the mets did choke. there is nothing that any fan can point out to anyone else to make last september seem less horrible.

Well, Beningo thinks Beltran is overrated, and a bum. Roberts is defending Beltran. Beningo thinks Wright secretly means Beltran instead of Delgado. Roberts is calling Beningo crazy.

Beningo would cut/trade Castillo, Beltran, Delgado, etc. Roberts thinks hes nuts.

Beningo thinks Beltran is secretly going behind Willie’s back and badly influencing Reyes. And then all hell broke lose with the screaming back and forth. With Robert’s best line “WHAT ARE YOU…WRITING A SOAP OPERA!?!?”

Mind you, this all started w/ a caller saying the team isn’t talented and relied upon a bunch of “what if’s” going into the season……..and presented logical evidence…..then this insanity ensued.

Can someone refill Beningno’s prescription please. He just said that he would take Byrnes OVER Beltran at this moment. Luckily Roberts put him in his place by stating that Eric Byrnes, as nice complimentary plater that he is, cannot hold Beltran’s jock statistically both offensively and defensively when all is said and done.

Byrnes would be a decent addition (I would rather take Nady who can actually hit) but NOT in place of Beltran.

Benigno is a total moron. For him to always get on Beltran’s case is too stupid.. Beltran remains, year after year, one of the elite centerfielders in baseball.

Defensively, yes. Offensively, he’s incredibly streaky.

I only hope the Wilpons aren’t oblivious to this stuff…………..

I mean……for god sakes…….outside of David Wrights comments, it seems like Mets fans are suffering from this malaise more than the team.

Guys………..please……………make change.

Let’s make these hillbillies pay for their arrogance the next time we see them……….

Ok…I just watched the video. Matt, you have some connections with the Mets…Do ou think you can arrange for the team to watch this crap before the game. Maybe if they realize that they are officially the laughing stock of MLB, maybe just maybe, they will wake the phuck up!!!!

That’s what I love about this blog now. Anyone who dares to think that it is possible that the Mets turn it around this season is considered to be drinking the Koolaid.

Is it possible that some people look at this team, see that there is some talent on it, look at recent years in baseball and see how many teams make runs late, and think “hey, maybe there is some hope here”? Or is that a sign of drinking the Koolaid?

I know it’s tough. You look at how the team is playing (like a$$) and all the turmoil surrounding them and it’s hard. It makes you sick. But it sure isn’t fun to watch every night without a little hope.

Agreed. Look no further than last years NL Champs. It can be done, but with some changes obviously.

I have hope until they are mathematically eliminated…every year

Jef-

I didn’t mean that towards you. I knew what you were saying. I was just going with that theme. I have read it a bunch of times on this blog, where if someone makes any sort of positive comment they get bashed for “drinking the Koolaid”.

I just wanted to make the point that there are some people who realized how bad they are now but can still have a little hope that they can turn it around and do something.

No harm…no foul……

I just knew I said it and two people mentioned it….so i wanted to reiterate I was kidding.

I agree….I think this team can/still have a good season.

I find it funny…..the mets are a disaster….. and are 1 under 500

the yanks on the other hand are “headed in the right direction” but were 2 under before winning 2 in a row……

You really can’t judge anything outside of 10 games or so. That being said….the mets are headed in the wrong direction - is it a disaster…..not yet - but they need to do something. What that something is….is up to Omar, Wilpons, and Willie (if he isn’t what the “something” is).

Exactly. And my personal choice is to stick around and root for them to right the ship and do something with the rest of the season.

2002 Angels
2003 Marlins
2004 Astros
2007 Rockies

Just a few examples of teams that were far worse off on May 23.

We need a LF though. Alou is finished.

Add the 2006 cardinals and 2007 yankees to that list. Those are teams that had great expectations coming into the season, were way worse than we are now on memorial day weekend, and made the playoffs. I still think that santana will adjust to national league ballparks, pedro coming back will improve the rotation, the bullpen is still abov average, and reyes and beltran will get on track. I agree that they can’t just expect these things to happen (especially reyes and beltran), they have to wake up and make it happen, but I do beleive this is still a good team, eventhough they are depressing to watch right now.

Well stated. This isn’t the 2002 team - there’s still a lot of young(ish) talent that’s not playing up to their potential at the moment.

Reyes, Wright, & Beltran certainly still have the ability to step it up.

Church and Schneider have been great additions to the team.

Alou is Alou - we all knew what we were getting with him.

The only two problems are Delgado and, to a lesser extent, Castillo.

The pitching staff is stll pretty good, they just haven’t been getting any run support. And Wagner is one of the best closers in baseball right now.

So I posted this comment on an earlier thread and I wanted to repost it here to get some different conversations going (other than the “fire willie” threads or the “you’re drinking koolaid” battles). And since my boss is taking the day off, I thought to myself, “what better way to spend my time than get blasted by irate Mets fans.” So the premise is, if you were managing the Mets now (or a new manager were to replace Willie), how would you turn the team around? Here’s what I wrote:

I’m not sure what you mean by that, but I’ll take that as a compliment.

Of course, now you’ve got me thinking: what would I do if I were managing this team? And the first thing that came to mind was to try to heal the rifts, foster team work, and do all of that outside of the ball park. Build the team chemistry again and do it in an environment that’s not baseball related. Help the guys have fun with each other again and take some of the tension/pressure out.

In my opinion, (and I’m not saying that this is the best idea, due to the safety concerns), I’d take these guys out to go paintballing. Put people who don’t normally work together in teams and force them to coop
