I still think we can turn the season around… and why not do it with a few unexpected heros… LETS GO METS!

    • metsintx says:

I hope so. Last nights game was not only bad, but boring, but I still believe. turn it around guys!

    • Flushing_is_Burning says:

i’m just gonna get the scores from Gameday, I don’t think I will be able to stand the FOX broadcast team, they might not be as bad as ESPN, but don’t want to risk throwing the remote at my tv.

      • catcher4life says:

been their done that, i just put the tv on mute and listen to the xm version

      • magic00700magic says:

        OMG. These announcers are awful.

They are boring, their voices are grating.

Wow, I knew our announcing team was great, but wow, this pair makes our guys master of the universe!!!!!!!

Thank god I dont have a gun, I might have blown my brains out already listening to this gamed (and the Mets are winning!)

    • bx34 says:

why does willie always bat the rookies 8th.did samething with lastings and gomez.cant get good pitches and gain confidence

    • shinjosplints17 says:

After all the bad luck would’ent be nice if we got lucky with a guy like Nick Evans turning out to be a nice player.

  2. miker94 says:

wow, that’s one hell of a lineup!

  3. wesdp1988 says:

castro and dwright with dingers today…… nick evans first at bat a double

  4. catcher4life says:

    i could live with that

  5. ho-go says:

Last night’s game wasn’t boring; it was depressing. The entire Met fan base may need to be prescribed Prozac if their play doesn’t improve soon.

  6. Flushing_is_Burning says:

another pitch with more L than W and an ERA over 5. Let’s see how they do. I really hope for once they can come through

  7. adam900 says:

This has to be one of the worst lineups we will see all year with Vargas pitching. *sigh*

    • EliPorter says:

on 3 days rest … on a day game after a 13 inning night game in which our pen went 8 innings

  8. catcher4life says:

you are some of the most deperssing mets fans ever… times have been worse for this team in the past 46 years, and they will get better

    • Flushing_is_Burning says:

it is our adaptive right and nature to be pessimists

      • catcher4life says:

well i was born a mets fan and intend on rooting for my team no matter what circumstances they are dealing with, and i think that despite the lack of well known starters in our line up today, i say that we are going to win, and willie will live another day as our manager

        • Flushing_is_Burning says:

not saying we shouldn’t root for them, we all are rooting for them to turn this around. I’ve seen some bad mets teams in the early 90s too, but they didn’t have this payroll, this much talent

    • Metsfan20 says:

Never a good sign when half your lineup doesn’t have their own player page

      • teufelshuffle86 says:

Can it really get any worse at this point? Let some of the young guys get a chance. There’s nowhere to go but up. The everyday guys aren’t getting it done so it can’t be much worse with some of the bench players in the game.

  9. SantanaCYYOung says:

the only way the mets win is outslugging the rockies and that’s not happening…wake me up when willie is gone

  10. dominicanboy08 says:

lets go mets…..cmon start a winning streak

I think willie should put the lineup in this order

    reyes
    castillo
    beltran
    delgado
    wright
    evans
    tatis
    castro
    vargas

the top five is what made our offense one of the best in the NL IN 2006, besides castillo of course.

delgado will get fastballs with wright protecting him

  11. Church says:

Wright is slumping, not very much protection right now. People need to start hitting in this lineup without protection. What has this hitting coach accomplished so far?

  12. Steve in DC says:

Call me a masochist but I’m watching this game expecting a win. They can’t lose 6 in a row, can they?

For the love of God, let’s go Mets!

  13. GregB says:

i can’t explain it, but as soon as i saw the lineup i felt the Mets were going to score a lot of runs today.

  14. IamJohn says:

This Looks like a 139 Million dollar lineup

  15. IamJohn says:

    2 or 3

The number of times Delgado strikes out today?

  16. losmets5 says:

I have a good feeling about today. Not a great one, but’s a good one nonetheless. It’d probably be better if I saw Church’s name. Oh well, let’s go mets.

  17. MetsFanInVegas says:

Ugh! Here in Vegas we get D’Backs vs. Braves on FOX and the game isn’t on MLB Extra Innings. I’m stuck watching it over MLB Gameday. I wanted to see Nick Evans play through TV not just see what he does through Gameday.

    • metinDC23 says:

So did I- DC is getting the Braves game too.

      Sucks.

      • AzMetsFan says:

This whole Saturday blackout on Extra Innings, whether its on Fox or not is BS. Last year it was just the games played on Fox, but this year is every Saturday day game. This is certainly my last year with that package unless they start offering more.

  18. irish_eagle says:

Vargas is on three days rest. The outfield defense is a huge unknown in a stadium where it’s at a premium (so much ground to cover).

    They had better hit Francis.

  19. Let’s Go Mets!!!

  20. metsarebest says:

tonight starts the winning streak this team needs to get the season FINALLY started
you guys are incredible it is MAY 24TH today not SEPTEMBER
Anyone who before the game even starts cannot be behind this team and predict the mets win should just go out and do something else today
real fans only today please to get behind our team

    • metsfan119 says:

      lay off the whippets

    • gipper82475 says:

Who made you grand poobah of deciding who is a fan and who isn’t?

Oh, and what happened to that “vote of confidence” you kept harping on last night as you kept predicting a Mets win.

      From today’s Rubin article:

“Where’s the support for Willie Randolph?

He didn’t legitimately get it from GM Omar Minaya, who arrived for a hastily arranged visit and would offer only a carefully worded endorsement of his manager
“During an in-game media address, Minaya would not deny Friday’s Daily News report that Randolph’s job was in jeopardy if he did not have a successful weekend. Instead, asked point-blank if Randolph’s job was in imminent danger, the GM vaguely said: “I’m just going to tell you that Willie Randolph is our manager. He has my support. He has our ownership’s support.”

  21. Ludacrispat says:

they are going to win today- no doubt

  22. metsarebest says:

thank you catcher4life for bringing something possitive today instead of the usual complaing from the so called ‘fans’ who prove to be more and more negative with each game

    • metsfan119 says:

Yeah, let’s all be positive, because the Mets have shown us so much over the past year. Mets fans have more than enough of a right to be pissed off with this team, just as you have a right to be blindly optimistic.

      • metsarebest says:

i did not realize that a team can only be supported when it wins
you have no right to be upset with this team because again it is MAY 24TH,, ya know EARLY IN THE SEASON ??
last time i checked there was plenty of games left to be played but you already give up so why not just go find a team that will make you more happy ???????

        • NYMBosco says:

Sorry but there is no hope for this team….no light at the end of the tunnel….the team is dead…..willie and omar killed….it our only hope is that the wilpons dump both of them now so we can possibly salvage the season…sorry but this team is ill conceived and hopeless……”the ship be sinking”

        • catcher4life says:

there is plenty of hope for this team, like metsarebest said, IT IS ONLY MAY 24TH! WE HAVE PLAYED HOW MAY GAMES???? THERE’S MORE THAN 100 GAMES LEFT THIS YEAR!!!!!! so shut up and support the team or keep sulking about the team they could be

        • metsarebest says:

i agree with everything but one thing
i think they should shut up and support the team or GET LOST and stop ruining the season for the real fans who never give up

        • catcher4life says:

          agreed

        • metsfan119 says:

I’m sorry, I guess I’m a little too complicated to be blindly optimistic about a team like an idiot. You can criticize a team you’re a fan of, perhaps that concept is foreign to you, but it’s a fact of fandom.

        • gipper82475 says:

Real fand = blind to reality? I cheered for this team in the Bamberger era too, but never was any delusion that they were playoff bound. Does that make me a bad fan or just a person with a working set of eyes and a brain?

  23. EliPorter says:

tatis is batting ahead of delgado…….

  24. stickguy says:

If they do lose, it should be an interesting meeting tomorrow with the Wilpons. Willie with his comments and team on a major losing streak, and Omar having to explain why this is the best team they can come up with to put on the field!

I will cut him slack for Church though. Great pick up, and how could you expect 2 concussions (other than this being the Mets, so why not?)

  25. TobeRinkler says:

Are they ahead or behind their 1973 record at this point?

  26. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

I know its not nice to judge someone by their looks, but Jeanne Zelasko is the most terrifying looking person ever to be placed in front of a television camera.

  27. dmassey33 says:

Someone mentioned this in a previous string. I’d like to second the call for the Mets to sign Barry Bonds.

    • chew13 says:

Dude BB is being indicted on 9 counts of federal perjury. The only team he will be playing for is The Federal Prison League. Really guys can we put all the BB talk to bed. Even if his upcomin imprisonment is not an issue, would you really want him on your team.

  28. SantanaCYYOung says:

guys, let’s assume (and you know what happens when you assume) that the mets win today, what does that mean? one win isn’t going to settle anything. this team needs to win 8 out of 12 or god forbid 20 out of 25.

i know it starts with one game, but look at the lineup today and tell me where the consistency is?

since the wagner comments last i felt like this team was going to become even more divided and that the play was going to show it. the yankee series temporarily disproved it, but look at what happened in atlanta.

i want to believe that this lossing streak (which i feel will reach 7) is EXACTLY what the mets need to turn this around. but last year, when i felt deep down that they would pull it out at the end even though they were losing all those games, changed all of that. Now i have no trust or confience that this team can “turn it around.

  29. EliPorter says:

    1500 comments today

  30. chew13 says:

How about Gary Carter openingly campaigning for Willie’s job. I thought there was this unwritten code in sports where coaches don’t do that to one another. I’m all for a change but not ready for another rookie Manager.

    • NYMBosco says:

Carter showed no class openly campaigning for willie’s job. As much as I want to see willie go now it needs to be done respectfully….Very disappointed in the kid

  31. adam900 says:

Jeff Francis looks like hes 16.

  32. egnirc says:

Scott Show’s intros weemed totally adlibbed or unprepared. That was funny.

  33. NY Cuban says:

Another good start…lets hope for a better finish.

  34. ccmetfan says:

    so wright is the captain

  35. EliPorter says:

“luis castillo usually doesnt play day games after night games because of his banged up knees”

4 more years! 4 more years!

  36. ccmetfan says:

    does Fox broadcast in HD?

  37. SantanaCYYOung says:

wright 9 hr, 38 rbi after this ab

  38. catcher4life says:

    double steal!

  39. chew13 says:

No Joe Buck on Fox. It’s early but these announcers dont seem nearly as annoying.

  40. EliPorter says:

these fox morons dont know the game.

  41. NY Cuban says:

    Francis has nothing today…

  42. mrosey says:

Could we possibly take advantage of such a great opportunity?

  43. sincekindergarten says:

This is getting interesting. Hopefully, Beltran can double . . . !!!!

    • sincekindergarten says:

I had just typed this, but hadn’t submitted it, when Francis threw his pitch.

  44. MainStMets says:

    instant offense

  45. EliPorter says:

    huge

  46. catcher4life says:

    hallelujiah

  47. NY Cuban says:

You can’t possibly blow this one…

  48. EliPorter says:

can this moron shut on fox shut the hell up.

“there are two trains of thought for a hitter when he comes up facing a pitcher who has been wild. swing at the first pitch or take”

really, so hitters can either swing or not swing. profound

  49. ccmetfan says:

Lets Go Mets!!free HD rocks, even if it isn’t great on fox

  50. Flushing_is_Burning says:

apparently when I don’t watch the game on TV, mets score, I would do that every game if i have to

  51. EliPorter says:

    i love omars expression.

any comments on what hes thinking?

  52. MainStMets says:

    tatis is a monster

  53. SantanaCYYOung says:

    please no dp delgado

  54. sincekindergarten says:

    C’mon, Delgado . . .

  55. EliPorter says:

im sorry, these announcers are worse than morgan/miller

    • Steve in DC says:

Horrible. Awful. Makes me miss Joe Morgan.

    • catcher4life says:

      thats and amazing feat

    • chew13 says:

No way man. These guys aren’t nearly as bad as the guys they are filling in for (joe Buck & Co.) Morgan and Miller are horrible. We’re just spoiled with Gary Keith and Ron. Outside of Vin Scully there aren’t that many good announcers out there

  56. MainStMets says:

1st inning these fools hv made like 5 mistakes already

  57. darkstar73 says:

delgado missed that pitch by like 3 feet, he has no clue what’s coming

    • chew13 says:

I’ve watched him his whole career and it seems like he’s not seeing the ball. Looks like might need Lasiks or something.

  58. kendychavez says:

when delgado is up i’m just hoping for anything but worst case scenario- there it was the double play, so i consider that k a successful AB

  59. MainStMets says:

lets go shrek!!! fly ball please

evans was issued gotays old number

    SHREK

  60. Flushing_is_Burning says:

when you need an out.. who you gonna call?? Del-Ga-Do

  61. Steve in DC says:

    Blastro!

  62. MainStMets says:

    yea baby !!!!

  63. sincekindergarten says:

    Darth Castro comes through!

  64. darkstar73 says:

    nick evans!

  65. Alban says:

    THat’s my boy!

  66. EliPorter says:

    someone made this comment:

“castro and dwright with dingers today…… nick evans first at bat a double”

    bravo

  67. sincekindergarten says:

    Evans is a keeper!

  68. metinDC23 says:

    Nice start.

  69. NY Cuban says:

maybe Nick Evans can be the spark.

  70. MainStMets says:

vargas to pinch hit, hes got a nice stroke

  71. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Damn, Nick Evans looks like me

    • chew13 says:

Then you look like Kevin Burkhardt. Cause that’s who i thought it was when Nick Evans was running the bases.

  72. metsfan42793 says:

did anyone see the equipment manager fake through the ball

  73. metsarebest says:

how do all of the negative fans feel now ??
all of the fire willie people ??
SHUT UP AND GET BEHIND YOUR TEAM
the owners gave willie their vote of confidence yesterday and here we go back to DOMINATING teams again
to all of you who wanted him fired thank god people who know this game did not agree with you

    LETS GO METS !!!!!!!!!!!

    • metsfan42793 says:

im totally with u but in colorado no lead is safe not even a 5 run lead

      • metsarebest says:

mets are going to pile on today
i will predict a minimum of 11 runs

        • gipper82475 says:

Give it a rest. We all want them to win…we just think Willie is a cancer and to win we need to dump him and retool the roster. This is a place for discussion of issues, not just cheerleading.

    • chew13 says:

I’m with you dude but it’s the 1st inning.

    • NY Cuban says:

Like they still need to FIRE WILLIE!!! And, yes, the ‘hungry’ bench players are doing awesome. And like hopefully, they don’t blow it.

And believe me, you don’t know anything about this game, so please don’t give yourself any credit…

      • metsarebest says:

i know a lot more than you do
you want to fire a manager who took this team to the NLCS in his second year
this year he will take them to the world series you fool

        • NY Cuban says:

yeah…i can imagine you are baseball genius. He couldn’t take this team to the World Series of Poker.

        • metsarebest says:

exactly what makes you a BS fan
too bad you have nothing to boo today

        • NY Cuban says:

I’m not a BS fan. I want whats best for the TEAM. The uniform. And if over 3 years, I know that Willie has not let this team reach its full potential, I want someone that will allow them to do so. Hence, I want Willie gone. I want the team to win, but there is no chance in hell they will make it to the WS with Willie…

        • metsarebest says:

you are NOT a mets fan by any means
i really do not even know why you are here wasting our time
you should go find a team that will make you more happy

        • NY Cuban says:

Why am I not a Mets fan? Because I should be content with mediocrity? Oh, because I should remember the Art Howe days and how bad it could get, so I should be complacent and be happy that they are underachieving dogs who play .500 ball? Oh, because they go through the motions because its early or because its just one game. Thats right, I should continue to pour money into this team while they have a leader running this team into the ground. Thats what makes me a bad fan. You know nothing about baseball, thats obvious. You can sit back live in your positive little world, clapping it up about good tries. Frankly, I, who played serious baseball, knows better.

Oh…and they can score 40 today, but its still just 1 W. Let me see them actually turn this ship around. You know, .600 baseball, 90+ wins. Then maybe I’ll get on board.

        • metsarebest says:

a real fan supports the team PERIOD
all of your excuses just confirm that you are not for real

        • metsarebest says:

          hahahahaha!
so you only support a team with 90 wins
boy you are a piece of garbage

        • NY Cuban says:

I support my TEAM. I do not support their decision to keep Randolph. End of story.

        • NY Cuban says:

I support a team that plays to their potential. And this team on paper is a 90 win team. I do not coddle underachievers. Sorry, I don’t believe in that “at least they are trying” crap.

        • metsarebest says:

then grab a bat and get to work if you think it is so easy
the game is not played on paper
we have had how many injuries now ??
so if they finish .500 you will give up on them ??
that is not a real fan

        • NY Cuban says:

Have I given up on them? Am I not watching? Am I sill not here? They aren’t .500 because of injuries. They are .500 because they have a lousy manager and this team has no heart.

And its not about being that easy. Its about giving 100% when you are out there. I played in college. I know its grueling, but if you are going to be there for 3 hrs, you might as well give it your best effort. EFFORT…thats something we haven’t seen since last May.

        • Nate W. says:

It is clear who is the true fan in this debate, and that is NY Cuban. well put good man!

        • metsarebest says:

you support your team or you are NOT a fan

        • gipper82475 says:

NY uban has been here, in thick or thin. You, the twelve year old cheerleader have only brought your pom-poms the last two days. And have proven to be wrong on at least a dozen of occasions already.

By the way, by your logic, a “ral fan” would have wanted the Mets to retain every craptastic manager and player that have ever been on the Mets. Do you miss Art Howe? George Bamberger? Bobby Bo? Robbie Alomar? Juan Samuel? if not, in your logic, your not a “true fan.”

  74. sincekindergarten says:

If the infield isn’t in, that rocket by Vargas gets through . . .

    • EliPorter says:

      hes got a great swing…

i cant take this fox guy anymore. the mute is now on

  75. teufelshuffle86 says:

Not a bad way to start a career.

  76. Steve in DC says:

Anyone know how good the Rockies’ bullpen is?

  77. kendychavez says:

alright we’re probably done scoring runs for the day.

  78. dr jones says:

What a little youth and an angry GM will to for a ball club.. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone run that hard to second base before. What a breath of fresh air

  79. catcher4life says:

its the bottom of the second and i am already wishing that this game was on sny, where’s gary keith and ron when you need them

  80. EliPorter says:

and nick evans now has his own wikipedia page

  81. metsfan42793 says:

if the mets win today and tomorrow( hopefully they do) they cant fire willie on monday. the wilpons need to wait for the mets to go on a losing streak for them to fire willie not when they could be on a 2 game winning streak.

    • metsarebest says:

they already said willie is not losing his job
the ownership has spoken in support of willie randolph

      • oleosmirf says:

        enough already

        • metsarebest says:

as long as people keep posting stupid crap about willie losing his job i am going to respond with the fact that it is just not happening

        • gipper82475 says:

          Are you blind or illiterate…

From today’s Daily News, as also reflected by Burkhardt last night on SNY:

“Where’s the support for Willie Randolph?

“He didn’t legitimately get it from GM Omar Minaya, who arrived for a hastily arranged visit and would offer only a carefully worded endorsement of his manager

He has our ownership’s support.”"

          Wake up and meet reality.

  82. slanginsanjuan says:

an rbi double and a catch. but how does evans “look” out there?

    • slanginsanjuan says:

oh and unbelievably a bill collector named nick evans just called me. i thought it was a joke.

    • metsfan42793 says:

i cant wait until the mets bring up carp to replace delgado whether it is this year or next. hopefully evans plays left next year and evans at first. then if u look at the team next year everyone is pretty good except castillo

    • NY Cuban says:

Are you ready for the NFL on FOX?

      13-10 final.

  83. oleosmirf says:

hopefully this kid Evans is the real deal and he stays with the club.

Alou can then move to 1st base and Delgado can be shipped off for nothing.

    • NY Cuban says:

Actually, I think Evans plays 1st.

    • MainStMets says:

alou will not be playing 1st base, when will ppl begin to realize that ou can not just throw a 1B glove on a player and trot him out to play 1st, it seldom IF EVER turns out to be positive

  84. sincekindergarten says:

Whoops! The Rox got one back . . .

  85. MainStMets says:

evans looks good, holliday looks better

  86. catcher4life says:

    i hate holliday

  87. EliPorter says:

    todd “highway to” helton

  88. Runshouse says:

It was one at bat against a pitcher who had nothing in that inning, stop getting stupid.

  89. playmaker3128 says:

You know what, if we can somehow win today and tommarow, i like our chances of going on a win streak. The marlins are coming to town, but unlike in the past were gonna be the underdogs. We can start something here.

Also i will say this, lately we have hit in some tough luck. We’ve hit some balls hard, just no luck at all. Maybe adding some guys like Tatis and Evans, plus beltran and reyes getting going and we can hit a win streak. Plus the possible addition of pedro soon.

  90. Methtical says:

Nick Evans looking good. Soon the other binghamton mets prospects ie Mike Carp, Murphy, and F-Mart will be brought up.

  91. playmaker3128 says:

Very true, its hard not to get ahead of myself. As a fan i wanna see this team get back on track. It would be a hell of a story though, team finally gets it together on the brink of willie’s firing.

  92. MetfanMD says:

Evans looks like a nerd in left….i love it……ive been for bringing him and carp up asap…..they can switch between first base and left field like they do in the minor….and perhaps put delgado on the DL for a little while…for old age….

  93. MainStMets says:

all i can say is this, if F-Mart and Evans are up t the same time, were in trouble

i love how people are in love with these AA players and think that they will be the cure to the season long slide weve been on, these kids are in AA for a reason , right ?

    • darkstar73 says:

so true, if we had all the AA kids on the team like everyone wants, we’d lose even more games.

    • Gina says:

So we’re not in trouble now? I think it’s safe to say that ship has already sailed.

  94. oleosmirf says:

its gonna take more than a few wins to turn this team around (or a positive attitude)

all they have to do is stop playing like crap and they’ll be fine…

the first step is to get rid of the crap players like Delgado and Castillo.

  95. MainStMets says:

    the wright tuff

    PILE ON ALL DAY BOYS

  96. chew13 says:

Can you say wake-up call. Hopefully

  97. MainStMets says:

wright plays much better when he has his pants hiked up to the knees, el capiTAN is getin bck on track

  98. playmaker3128 says:

Someone should take the calender and put Saturday and Sunday all over it.

  99. metsarebest says:

who wants willie fired now ????????

  100. metinDC23 says:

That persons prediction is now 2/3’s true.

  101. slanginsanjuan says:

ok. i wait patiently for castro’s homer now.

  102. MainStMets says:

wasnt the beltran HR the 3d part?

missed it by 6 feet lol

  103. EliPorter says:

“castro and dwright with dingers today…… nick evans first at bat a double”

someone made that prediction earlier. im expecting a castro long ball now

  104. playmaker3128 says:

Were playing well today, thats clear. However we’ve seen this before. To me its all about tommarow and monday. The question is can we sustain this. I think we can. We’ll see.

    • metsarebest says:

tomorrow they win the series and that should shut everyone up for a little while
this team will be in first place this coming week and not look back

  105. MetfanMD says:

The Mets stink right now because of some of the players….i cant stand rooting for castillo and delgado and seeing them play just irritates me and makes me angry….id rather see double A players playing and hustling and working hard and enjoying the game rather than over paid old bags that come to the stadium to pick up their pay check…i think mets fans enjoy seeing players that hustle and work hard……and thats why i would prefer to see evans and carp and other double A players…because u know they want it….they play the game they way it should be played…..

    • darkstar73 says:

if our team was filled with AA players like you want, and after they finished the season with something like 75 wins, i’m not sure you’d be so happy about it anymore.

      • MetfanMD says:

I didnt say filled with double A players….i want players that hustle and care about the game….you can clearly tell castillo and delgado dont care….you cant blame willie for that….for everyone that blames willie…..he does have his faults….as do other managers…but u cant blame a manager for the lack of hustle and hard work from veteran players….and i did enjoy the 75 win seasons because im a mets fan….when a team filled with nobodies comes from no where and wins….thats exciting…when a team full of over priced veterans win…its whats expected…and that is not fun

      • metsfan119 says:

I’d take AA players over Delgado and Castillo, that’s for sure.

        • darkstar73 says:

so you’d take anderson hernandez over Castillo? Do you really think he could get on base at .360?

        • Methtical says:

anderson hernandez is in AAA and is crap…. however a lot of the AA bing mets are younger, less experienced, but have a lot of potential and i wouldnt mind seeing f-mart and mike carp being brought up… i went to school in bing for 4 years so i got to see a lot from the mets AA prospects.

      • ToastyJoe says:

If it’s a choice between playing .480 ball with some of these fat, useless loads or playing .460 ball with some kids who actually, you know, hustle, I’ll take the latter every single time and twice on sunday.

  106. EliPorter says:

    wesdp1988,

give us more predictions. will the mets make the playoffs?

  107. EliPorter says:

todd helton was peyton’s backup at tennessee
seth smith was eli’s backup at ole miss

  108. ccmetfan says:

lol, they just confused Ollie with Vargas in the dugout even though Vargas is pitching. They really look alike

  109. MainStMets says:

hes got a glove tooo evans!

  110. oleosmirf says:

i have no problem keeping willie (even though i dont like him as a manager) i just want omar gone.

he’s too high on over-the-hill players like Delgado and Castillo. Minaya will refuse to move those 2 and that is the biggest problem.

  111. MainStMets says:

    the delgado bunt!!!

  112. metsarebest says:

    omar =
    santana
    maine (won 15 last year)
    perez (won 15 last year)
    church
    wagner
    beltran
    just for starters

  113. EliPorter says:

    castro homer?

  114. ccmetfan says:

They gotta be patient, francis is throwing mostly balls

  115. MainStMets says:

kids on fire, back 2 back 2 baggers

  116. EliPorter says:

    nick evans is the man

  117. dominicanboy08 says:

evans…wow he looks like a good hitter

  118. metsfan119 says:

20 bucks Nick Evans isn’t in the lineup tomorrow.

  119. metinDC23 says:

    I think I’m liking him…

  120. dominicanboy08 says:

evans just need to get stronger and we have a hitter

  121. sincekindergarten says:

But, he damn near got picked off second!

  122. dominicanboy08 says:

so who did the mets send down to call up evans?

  123. DMAT89 says:

Marlon got put on the DL

  124. metsarebest says:

thank you mr minaya and mr randolph for getting this team focused again

  125. MeesesGlokmah says:

Despite being struck out, a very productive at bat for Vargas. A pitcher getting the other pitchers count up is always good.

  126. MainStMets says:

    nice shot by francis

  127. EliPorter says:

    seriously? frickin jeff francis

  128. chew13 says:

So According to the Jacket If Pedro is Pitching wed our up-coming rotation should be:

    Sun – Maine
    Mon – Pelfrey
    Tues- Johan
    Wed- Pedro
    Thu- Ollie
    Friday- Maine
    Sat – Pelfrey

I imagine Vargas would get sent down.

  129. dominicanboy08 says:

how about a platton with delgado and evans? evans can play first, right?

    • Wright88 says:

Yes Evans can play first, I only worry that he is just on a hot streak. His minor league numbers aren’t that impressive, but minor league numbers can be very deceiving.

      • darkstar73 says:

look, Evans is not going to come up and hit .300 because he has 2 doubles in this game, relax. He’s a fine young player, but that’s what he is, a young player in AA, he won’t be up long, and his 2 doubles in this game mean very little at this juncture in his career.

        • Wright88 says:

What I meant was I don’t think he is much of a prospect, Carp either, but I’m only looking at their minor league totals which are usually deceiving. A lot of players don’t have spectacular minor league numbers but have great major league careers.

        • Church says:

Lets leave the Evans bashing after a good performance to Willie.

        • Wright88 says:

Not bashing, just not believing all the hype Tracy, Carp, and he are getting. I would love for them to come out and be the next Wright or Reyes. But I’m not going to buy into it so early like our other can’t miss prospects, Humber or Pelfrey or Milledge or Petit.

        • ToastyJoe says:

Jeez, excuse us for having something or someone to be excited about for a change, Willie…er, darkstar. We’ll be happy go back to watching the sulking veterans play now.

        • Church says:

I think that we are at a point where platooning Evans and Delgado might be a good idea. He looks like hes got a better swing than Endy or Brady Clark etc. He can play against lefties. He can pinch hit and play outfield. Delgado wont be released like I wish he would. But its not like he is going to get much better, and he doesn’t seem to hit lefties at all. Its not like Evans can be worse than what we have.

    • ParisWilponCOO says:

      yes, but delgado can’t!

  130. oleosmirf says:

boy a good pedro would be nice

  131. MainStMets says:

was the jacket sayin the 28th as a rehab start or as a start w the Mets??!??

  132. MainStMets says:

then the guy posting above abt him starting wed is incorrect

  133. MainStMets says:

damn he misses that castillo is standin on 3d

  134. EliPorter says:

    good recovery

  135. dominicanboy08 says:

anyone knows why church isnt playing today, is he still hurt?.

I really dont want him to miss a lot of games because it will mess up his swing

    • soulsea says:

Church brain no work good today

    • Wright88 says:

Still recovering. Concussions are tricky, especially when you have multiple in such a short span of time. Better to be cautious than to ruin him for his whole life, let alone mlb career.

  136. dr jones says:

I truly believe that if you took Delgado off this team and added a couple of kids that this team would play for willie. But thats no gonna be the case. They look good today,, but in a week from now I fear it may be the same old story.

    • CitizenSnips says:

      Nick Evans – 1B and F-Mart – LF?

    • oleosmirf says:

      ditto

i’d be suprised if he got .250 25 hrs and 80rbis

you can get similar numbers from a younger player plus all the headaches are gone…

      • Church says:

I wonder what the average age for starting players on the Dbacks and Marlins is? Seems like since they “cleaned” up steroids all the good players are getting younger instead of older. Thats odd.

    • ParisWilponCOO says:

you’re right- hopefully delgado will follow willie out the door before the team comes home

  137. dominicanboy08 says:

    vargas looking good

  138. sincekindergarten says:

Vargas gets 3Ks after walking Helton.

  139. VelvetFoot says:

    Vargas is indeed looking good.
This is first I’ve seen him.
The Fox Team does suck, doesn’t it.

  140. EliPorter says:

castro needs to hit a home run here to fulfill the prophecy

  141. MainStMets says:

the avg age of the Dbacks when B Webb is on the hill is 26.4 yrs of age

    • MainStMets says:

avg age of Marlins w hendrickson on hill is 29.6 years of age

    • metsfan119 says:

eh…. their lineup isn’t that great, I guess I’m in the minority in that I just don’t fear that team, even with their record.

  142. Crisera says:

come on evans hit a hr!

  143. EliPorter says:

    evans likes to swing

  144. VelvetFoot says:

What’s going to happen to Vargas when Pedro comes back?
    He’s looking good.
    Bullpen?

    • EliPorter says:

we need a long reliever, but someone would have to go down. i think we should demote the casanova

  145. ToastyJoe says:

Looked like a rook in that AB for sure. He just dropped 33.33333 points in his batting average!

  146. EliPorter says:

evans is in elite company with kaz matsui

  147. Crisera says:

hopefully he wont be the next matsui.

  148. ToastyJoe says:

Every team! Every team! Every game! Every game!

  149. ToastyJoe says:

Man, Dick Stockton looks like grim death.

  150. metsfan119 says:

Eric Karros is probably the only guy in the world more vanilla than Todd Zeile

  151. EliPorter says:

love to see that braves highlight there…. COME ON

  152. EliPorter says:

hey, eric karros… how many world series did you play in?

  153. ToastyJoe says:

Does Karros not know what happened last September?

  154. metsfan119 says:

It’s not “just May” dipsht, this team has been under .500 since this time last season.

    • ToastyJoe says:

These national announcers do zero research before they do a team’s game.

      • metsfan119 says:

I know, and really, all they’re doing is protecting their own. The meathead fraternity must protect each other, it’s even worse in football.

  155. dominicanboy08 says:

nick evans looks confortable in LF

  156. Flushing_is_Burning says:

u think vargas got 2 more innings in him?

  157. Flushing_is_Burning says:

wow not a single hit since the third….

  158. OrangEandBlue says:

The Mets offense is just so inconsistent. Once the hits started piling on in the first the Mets started swining for the fences. Nick Evans is the only hitter who has had a steady approach. This team is still on cruise control even though they are behind.

  159. ToastyJoe says:

By the way…I think Ollie Perez just walked someone else from the dugout.

  160. MainStMets says:

Believe it or not, the avg age of mets starters with johan on the hil, and alou in LF is 31.4 yrs of age….

not such an old team now is it ?

  161. VelvetFoot says:

    1-2-3

  162. irish_eagle says:

Impressive from Vargas. He only pitched on Tuesday (and not well).

  163. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Gotta love Vargas’ performance in this game. Granted, he’s pitching to a team that has even bigger confidence problems than the Mets right now, but I like what I’m seeing — consistent, economical, calm. This is a good thing.

  164. VelvetFoot says:

    Pretty good velocity as well.

  165. ToastyJoe says:

Wright is actually the PRESENT of the Mets, not the future, Mr. Karros…

  166. dr jones says:

this guy needs to retire.. We can’t have this guy in our lineup anymore. He’s done..

  167. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    not one hit…

  168. MainStMets says:

oddly enough if you are to avg out the rest of the 25 man roster, its 31 yrs of age exactly, granted there are older players like pedro/wags but the youth of maine ollie smith etc, balance it out

  169. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Way to go, Claudio. You can stay for a while.

  170. dominicanboy08 says:

7 strong inns from vargas….he definitely has better stuff than figgy

  171. MainStMets says:

    SHREK!!!!!

  172. EliPorter says:

    wesdp1988

  173. MainStMets says:

    will it be 3 doubles?

    yes it is !!!!

  174. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    yeah! a hit!!

  175. Jefferies 9 says:

This Evans kid looks exactly like a young Bobby Kennedy …

  176. EliPorter says:

can we bat evans cleanup? hahaha i love homegrown talent

  177. VelvetFoot says:

    3 doubles.

  178. Church4prez says:

CUT ALOU NOW AND PLAY EVANS EVERY DAY!! THIS KID IS AWSOME

  179. dominicanboy08 says:

    evans…3 2b hit wow!!!!!!!!!!

  180. therealsandman says:

delgado better watch out because nick evans is going to be the everyday 1b, because if alou is ever healthy i would rather have alou/evans in the lineup then evans/delgado

  181. EliPorter says:

    slappy mcdoubleton

  182. VelvetFoot says:

    Castillo!

  183. MainStMets says:

    slappy adds one!!!
we love to blow teams out lately when we win eh

  184. Church4prez says:

    SLAPPY!!!

  185. dominicanboy08 says:

evans should play first base against lefties when alou comes back

  186. therealsince86 says:

listening to the radio. Anyone know if Reyes dogged it out of the box?

  187. EliPorter says:

i hope we dont follow up this blowout with 0-2 runs tomorrow. its been a recent trend for these mets

  188. ToastyJoe says:

Can I just make a general statement at this point? Eric Karros is a fool. Thank you.

  189. adam900 says:

Nick Evans is our 3rd best hitter besides Church and Wright.

  190. Maineiac says:

If Evans isn’t an everyday player, then there is something mentally wrong with our manager.

He is like a baby David Wright (he hits to the opposite field) and has much better fielding than Milledge. I have a feeling he’ll be our future first basemen. Oh and Fernando will have left field waiting for him.

    • EliPorter says:

calm down buddy. remember kaz matsui also had a good first game with the mets. could evans be good? of course. but dont you think its premature to compare him to our all-star third basemen based off 4 at bats?

      • Maineiac says:

I said his hitting approach is similar. They both go to the opposite field naturally. I am just excited because last year I wanted the Mets to bring him up, and now that he is, he just seems a good fit.

I know I am not being logical with my thinking and I already know he could be a bust, but with all the misery from the Mets, this is a bright spot that I hope will not fade soon.

    • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Evans looks great so far, but let’s keep in mind that a lot of guys do when they first hit the majors and nobody has figured out how to pitch to them yet. I wouldn’t be making out the lineup cards for July just yet.

But it is an impressive start. My fingers are crossed.

      • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

And pulling him at this point in the game was dumb. The kid made things happen today, Willie — was it really necessary to “put him in his place?” Geeez.

  191. soulsea says:

Ok, so from now on we only play on weekends. Sorted!

  192. EliPorter says:

i love how quickly evans’ wikipedia page has been updated

  193. Church4prez says:

FORGET ALOU! HE IS DONE CUT HIM

  194. MainStMets says:

boo to pulling evans for defense

  195. therealsandman says:

nick evans is out of the game, can we get a round of applause please!!!!! this kid is amazing

  196. njmatt says:

Gotta love Evan’s approach at the plate. Plus he seems like he can hit the breaking stuff.

Remember guys, we can be excited, he has a great swing, but it is just his first game. Guys don’t know how to pitch him yet.

  197. ToastyJoe says:

Here’s Willie’s postgame press conference today:

“Yeah, you know, the kid did an OK job for us today. And I’d like to work him into the mix at some point. But let’s not go nuts here. We have 26 guys on the roster and they’re all going to play. So he’s gotta be prepared to spend some time on the bench.”

  198. metsfan119 says:

Willie during the postgame press conference:

“Yeah, Nick got a few nice shots in there today. A couple of bloops that caught the Coors jet stream. He should be a quality utility guy in a couple years. We’ll give him a little spell tomorrow and give Chavey the start out in left.”

  199. dr jones says:

only Willie would do something like that… Let the kid finish the game.. wTF is wrong this dude

    • Maineiac says:

Willie is a retard. There I said it. He just crushed the kids spirit by taking him out of the game. He would never do this with a veteran because Willie has respect for them and not for rookies. Shove it Willie!

  200. dr jones says:

    was that a double switch?

    • dr jones says:

if that wasn’t a double switch and the kid isn’t injured.. I can’t possible understand why he would do that.. All it says to the kid is that Willie doesn’t trust him in the field.. Its always negative with this fool… He does all the time.

      • MudvilleNine says:

It ended up being a double-switch. I can see wanting to keep him out there because technically he’s had more time out there in LF than Tatis. But from a different aspect, it might be better to take him out after such a fine game to prevent something that might happen out there negatively that would lower the confidence he has gained already. The question is whether Willie was thinking the latter?

  201. MainStMets says:

dirty looks good, who tosses in the 9th?

  202. ToastyJoe says:

This guy in the Aquos ad is like a more annoying version of Dane Cook, as if that were possible…

  203. OrangEandBlue says:

David Wright needs to change his batting stance. He can no longer foul off breaking balls away like he did in 2006. Wright has been able to get away with his high leg kick for a year and a half now but he is going to need to change that timing mechanism in order to stay in at-bats.

  204. egnirc says:

I’m guessing he’s now the second coming of Milledge and untouchable now?

    • ToastyJoe says:

Until he puts out a rap video.

    • Maineiac says:

Unlike Milledge, Evans has talent, not hype. I could see him being better than Milledge in the future. Of course Willie has to give the kid a chance and play him everyday. He is no different than Wright or Reyes was, and is probably better than Delgado at this point although that is not saying much.

  205. ToastyJoe says:

If you’re gonna pull anyone for defense, why pull Evans and not Tatis?

    • therealsince86 says:

Evans and the group are supposedly not great defenders.

      • Maineiac says:

We are winning 8-2, and the kid has 6 put outs. It’s not like he is playing on crutches. I know I am not being completely logical, but this is a situation to show the kid that the manager has trust in him, and that will give him confidence for the future.

        • therealsince86 says:

Unless he makes an error and ruins his day. Besides pitchers spot would have came up if not.

    • EliPorter says:

it was a double switch. if randolph subbed for tatis, the pitchers spot would be due up 2nd

  206. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Does that “Aquos Player of the Game” thing mean that Nick gets a free TV?

  207. MainStMets says:

    DEL GOT IT

  208. EliPorter says:

    that was a bomb

  209. dominicanboy08 says:

    delgone!!!!

  210. Church4prez says:

    3 days in a row!!

  211. therealsince86 says:

    Delgotit.

  212. adam900 says:

Delgado loves coors. Anywhere else is a double play.

    • Maineiac says:

Any negative comment by me on Delgado will be temporarily revoked.

Great job ol’ chap, but I’m still skeptical about his average… let’s get it higher than Andruw Jones and you have my respect!

      • Maineiac says:

Never mind with Andruw Jones hitting .165 Delgado doesn’t have to earn my respect.

        Let’s Go Mets!

  213. soulsea says:

    CLUTCH!

    • njmatt says:

      hahaha, post of the day

I knew this comment was on the way. To quote FJM…

“Hitting a home run, apparently, is only gameriffic if you do it in the bottom of the ninth. All other homers are for selfish stat-padding jerks and actually hurt your team. I know this is true because I read it in the Bible.”

  214. njmatt says:

I actually like taking Evans out. He’s had a great day, he’s a young kid, his confidence is at an all time high right now. Why leave him out in the field in a position he isn’t familiar with to possibly make an error. It was a good move.

If Evans keeps hitting maybe it will inspire Delgado to get it going for when (if) Moises comes back.

  215. ToastyJoe says:

I hate how Stockton and Karros are talking like the game is over. At this point with the Mets, until the last out is actually recorded I won’t believe it.

    • EliPorter says:

its over bud. and hey, look up at your last post to the answer for why willie took out evans and not tatis

    • chew13 says:

I understand Rox are missing a few regulars and it is Coors Field… but we looked good today. Now if we can play the next 100 and something left like this. We should be alrite.

  216. EliPorter says:

    is easley part asian?

    thanks for hustling damion

  217. How about we trade Delgado to the Rox since it seems like he can only hit at Coors field any way and we get Matt Holliday hahahahah nope only we do that

ex Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano

    • Maineiac says:

Delgado and Castillo for Tulowitzki (even though he is hurt) and Holliday.

      Seems like a fair trade.

  218. Church4prez says:

I HATE KARROS AND STOCKETON! tthe are talkin about evans like he is Mays

    • Maineiac says:

I am excited about Evans, but I would not compare him to the say hey kid. That is just ludacris!

Ted Williams is a better comparison. :)

  219. ahhhh only 3 more outs…. I’m not even sure Willie can find a way to screw this one up but who knows ??

come on guys lets get off the schnied

  220. EliPorter says:

jeff francoeur hit a walk off homer for the braves. chipper frickin jones is still batting over .410

  221. dominicanboy08 says:

    braves won…damn it

  222. whenslydale says:

    WELCOME NICK EVANS!
VIVA VARGAS….( can he be our new version of Walt Terrell?)

what a breath of fresh rocky mountain air!

  223. Church4prez says:

WHY DOES WILLIE PITCH FELICIANO IN BLOWOUTS?

  224. EliPorter says:

eric karros is just spewing bullsh-t right now.

    • ToastyJoe says:

      He’s such a yutz.

      • JSC1968 says:

Why because he thinks it’s crazy to show Willie the door?

        • ToastyJoe says:

Because he says “it’s only May” and doesn’t acknowledge the collapse or that the Mets have been playing like crap for a YEAR.

        • JSC1968 says:

He’s right. It’s still only May. Where were the Yanks at this point last year? Hell, where were the Rockies?

          It’s still May, dude.

        • ToastyJoe says:

The “it’s only May” argument would work in Willie’s favor ONLY if this was (a) his first season on the job or (b) the Mets made the playoffs last year.

        • gipper82475 says:

1.) Neither was coming off the biggest collapse ever.

          2.) Neither won the title.

        • MudvilleNine says:

I still say last years results are as relevent to his year as the past 10 years have. Look at the Rockies and how they finished last year. Doesnt seem to have anything to do with this year so far has it?

  225. MainStMets says:

delgado is on pace for about 30 HRs, hmm could be nice to have our 7 hitter swatting 30 bombs

  226. adam900 says:

    Finally a win?

  227. MainStMets says:

its good to see the guys laughing and smiling, WHILE WERE WINNING a game, cant wait to see the castillo/reyes chest bump, all with shirt tails untucked

  228. Hey finnally they play a game like they should too badd it took a journeymen pitcher and a rookie to spark em but hey maybe its what they needed…

Congrats Willie your guys helped you live to coach through the Flordia Series now :-)

  229. ToastyJoe says:

    PHEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW………

  230. EliPorter says:

great game boys. willie, you can sleep tonight

  231. Church4prez says:

FINALLY!!!! GAME BALLS TO EVANS AND VARGAS

  232. therealsandman says:

yay for nick evans , vargas and the rest of the mets, we actually won a game

  233. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

OK, here’s my plan for the rest of the season:

Every three weeks, we bring up three kids from the AA and AAA clubs. New Orleans, Binghamton, Brooklyn… whatever. Bring up an infielder, an outfielder, and a pitcher. Let them play until the rest of the league figures them out, then as soon as their batting averages fall below .300 (or their ERAs above 2), we send them back down and call up three other fresh-faced newbies. Repeat until end of season. We can call it the Pagan-Figueroa-Evans plan.

What? Why are you guys looking at me like that?

  234. JSC1968 says:

Ok, guys, here is a bold prediction for the future, seeing how alot of folks are worried around here, let me tell y’all how it ends.

The Mets will win the wild card, after getting some revenge against Florida and beating them out in the final series in Sept.

The Braves win the division. The Mets will spank the D-Backs, we own them in AZ. The Cubs will beat the Braves, but Met fans will buy up all the seats near the foul line and hold up large cutouts of Bartman, taking a couple games there and winning it at home and then go to the big show against the Sox, where Pedro pitches a game for the ages and propels the Mets to beat them in 6.

    See, no worries.

So, it is written, so it shall be done.

  235. playmaker3128 says:

I’m not worried about what the braves, phillies and marlins are doing right now. Once we get something going, maybe win 8 or 9 of 10 then i’ll look at the standing again. No need to right now, plenty of baseball left to be played.

As for today, great job overall. Beltran and Reyes seem to be coming around, despite all the hate for delgado, the hr numbers are starting to creep back up, plus he had one taken away from him. Evans, i loved what i saw from him today. Went the other way very well, and i was even more impressed with his last AB. 8 pitch at bat i believe and then went the other way again. Willie has to have him in the lineup tommarow, hitting is contagious and he’s getting some hits.

  236. dykstraw says:

we won, and i missed it?

could be weeks before i have the chance to see another

  237. stickguy says:

At least, for 1 day, I feel vindicated after all my “bring up Evans” posts! Of course, Willie will have him chained to the bench for the next 3-4 days, but hey, that’s WIllie!

And don’t get too excited about Delgado. He looked terrible overall today. He will get an occasional HR, but the rest of his numbers are terrible, and most of them will come in garbage time, when pitchers are laying it in.

Honestly, does anyone here think Carlos D would get a hit in a key situation, if the pitcher was trying to get him out (and no way against a lefty). He is purely guessing at this point, and will only hit mistakes.

But, a nice win, and Mr Vargas, take a bow! I need to go order my Evans jersey now before they are all sold out…

  238. stickguy says:

Oh, I do have to say that watching Castillo belly flop into 2nd earlier in the game was oddly fascinating. He is quite the stocky dude, and he looked like a beer league softball player lumbering toward the bag, then basically belly flopping into 2nd (can’t call it a head first slide, he pretty much just thumped down and stopped, then reache dout for the bag).

I’m sorry, I just don’t like him on the team.

  239. kjmcc0729 says:

All is right in the world again! good win by willies guys today. It was nice to see that he mixed it up a bit putting tatis and castro in the game, although the injuries and schneiders work schedule probably had more to do with it than anything.

Well, all that Fire Willie talk has got to stop now after that thourough thumping of the defending national league champions!!
We had no reason to worry all along! Why in the world would I ever doubt willie. Well, I won’t make that mistake again!

    • kjmcc0729 says:

I’m sorry, I am pretty new to this blog. I did not realize that I had to announce that I was being sarcastic when I was being sarcastic. So for anyone who might have misread my post: (sarcasm)

  240. metsarebest says:

the fire willie nonsense must end now
    support your team
they are busting their butts for you now and willie is going to take them all the way to the world series this year

  241. DMAT89 says:

holy crap, look at the difference one win makes..

  242. metsarebest says:

the difference is not because of the win
it is because the mets can now get back to baseball since the drama of whether willie would stay or not is now over
once they could get back to putting their energy out on the field the results were automatic
now they are going back to shea after winning a series in spite of all of the media hype and they will knock the marlins back down to earth

  243. Hubie says:

Just read through the comments today on promoting Evans and it affirmed my beliefs that 75% of the people who post here are a bunch of knuckleheads. Its embarrassing. I can’t believe people were criticizing the decision. My first reaction was we don’t have too many options at this point, so why not give the kid a shot. All people want to do here on here is criticize. 95% of the people on here have never see Evans play and here you all are critcizing Omar and everyone for making a boneheaded move. Well you were wrong, which is usually the case. I use to think people who booed at Shea were just drunken idiots but after reading the posts on here, I realize its the losers on this site, who are bandwagon fair weather fans. Maybe its a good thing we lose this year, so we get all of you off the band wagon in time for the new stadium.

    • soulsea says:

Dude, are you actually telling us that what our stupidity was revealed to you be the Evans comments on today’s thread?
With all the crap that flies around here on a daily bases, we’ve consistently been waaaay stupider.
Quite frankly, you don’t sound much smarter than us!

    • MudvilleNine says:

I think you meant that for the thread that said he was coming up. Pretty much on this thread, the people were applauding the move. They just didnt think Willie would play him. As for what you said about everyone in here well I think I can say for everybody in here, we dont care what you think. We believe the only “loser” is someone who thinks he knows better on who is a real fan and who is not. As someone else has already stated in this thread, this blog is for discussion and debate, and there’s plenty happening around this team to do so. I dont agree with everyone’s opinions and statements on here and I know mine aren’t totally agreed with, but this is the place to do it. I find, like in coaching, you take a little here, a little there, and you always learn something, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned so far is that everyone on here loves the Mets. (I almost said love this team, boy would that have been a mistake) So join the debate or just read the blog entries and skip the comments, makes no matter to us.

      • soulsea says:

You tell him MudvilleNine! Although, responding to his post with an even longer reply doesn’t scream “we don’t care what you think”. But still, I’m with you.

        • MudvilleNine says:

Its the coach in me. I cant help but make easy explanations long and tedious. But sometimes people have to be led by the hand.

        • soulsea says:

You’re not alone my friend. Willie’s coaching is taking a toll on all of us.

  244. MeesesGlokmah says:

Hehe. I was reading the SNY article titled “Evans to provide depth in outfield” and saw the Associated Press made an interesting typo. The caption for the Evans picture says he had “3 triples.” Can you imagine if that had happened?

  245. Steven Hirsch says:

Yeah, I saw that fake throw by the Mets equipment manager. And I thought I was the only one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  246. When Reyes goes, so do the mets. Nice job by vargus resting the ballpen

  247. mrose says:

why does it take so long to post a postgame on the weekend, lol

  248. metsarebest says:

everyone just needs to calm down
enough already this team will be in first place by the end of the week
all of the people who want them to get rid of willie, castillo, and delgado just happened to fade away during the game yesterday
the real fans know that this team is going to make us proud
real fans do not boo their own team or complain about the manager
today the mets win a series and head back home
what kind of fan thinks things are bad when your team WINS

  249. Stems says:

where are updates on this blog? everyone bbqed out??

  250. MainStMets says:

lets see holiday weekend, hmm possible reason for no updates currently, like it matters, we all know how to find recaps for games if we want them

by the time todays game starts there will be plenty of info here to digest

take a chill mi amigos and go enjoy the fine north east sunshine, grab a burger and a brew

  251. NegativeFan says:

Eeesh. Nick Evans has a good 1st game and now everyone is creaming over him. And if he goes 0-4 today? How about we WAIT AND SEE on this kid? He may be good- stranger things have happened. Or he may not be so good- a real possibility. TO BE DETERMINED.

They won yesterday……lets be honest did anyone get excited? Even if they win today, will you get excited?

We need to see a prolonged streak of good baseball from them before I can have anything close to a positive feeling about them

    • kjmcc0729 says:

perhaps evans is the second-coming of angel pagan. he will play well for a bit, willie will offer his criticism and vote of no confidence, sit him for a while so he can cool off, and then disappear.

  252. metsfan119 says:

Fire Willie already. This guy is a moron. He just consistently puts his foot in his mouth. Winning against a terrible Rockies team changes nothing.

    • metsarebest says:

WILLIE RANDOLPH IS NOT GETTING FIRED
why is that so hard for people to understand
they will come home tomorrow after winning a series
      who gets fired FOR WINNING
why is it even being talked about after the ownership SAID his job is safe

  253. metsarebest says:

i would like to see one person give a reason why you think willie is going to be fired AFTER his bosses said he has their support
if they fired him after saying they support him they would look worse than anyone
