I have been sent several e-mails in the last day or so referencing a comment by
WFAN’s Mike and the Mad Dog, suggesting that they had talked with Keith Hernandez, who said he is interested in managing the Mets.
I talked with SNY’s spokesman, who contacted Keith, who says this is not correct – adding that Keith is not interested in managing.
…Update…8:22 am…
Hernandez was quite critical of Gary Carter, who made these comments over the weekend, saying:
“I have great respect for Gary as a player…That being said, and I’ve kept quiet for such a long time, but for the people out there listening, just go in the dictionary and look up ‘unconscious’ and you’ll find a picture of Gary Carter.”
Willie Randolph and Omar Minaya will meet with Fred and Jeff Wilpon at Shea Stadium on Monday, prior to the team’s game against the first-place Marlins.
…this should be interesting…my hunch is that nothing will change…my sense is that this meeting will help inform the wilpons on how best to move forward, beyond tomorrow…
Tagged Omar Minaya, Willie Randolph |The Mets (23-25) lost to the Rockies (20-30) by a score of 4 to 1 at Coors Field today. The Mets ended their nine-game road trip with a 3-6 record.
For a complete recap and box score, head on over to SNY.tv.
- John Maine pitched better than the box score will show. Maine should have gotten out of the fourth inning without allowing run, but Jose Reyes‘ botched a potential inning-ending double play which allowed Seth Smith to hit a bomb to right which put the Rockies on top for good.
- However, the story today was not Maine, it was the non-existent Mets offense that didn’t put up much of a fight today. Even when they did have scoring opportunities they became wasted as the lineup was just unable to get the big hit, especially in the seventh when they had two and one out, but Brian Schnieder and Ryan Church both struck out.
- It’s frustrating that the Mets can put up nine runs one day looking like a confident team then the next day look completely overmatched. This team is too Jekyll and Hyde this season to get anything going.
- The team needs something to happen, either a change within the coaching staff or a trade. Whatever it is, this team needs a wake up call and they need it soon.
The Mets head home for the start of a three-game set against the first place Marlins tomorrow night with Mike Pelfrey getting the start, game time 7:10 pm.

…i’m not sure schneider should be the one hitting behind delgado today, as schneider has one hit in his last 21 at-bats, but their isn’t many options with Ryan Church still out of the lineup…
