    Wow, what a change

  2. rM teM says:

    Here goes nothing.

  3. apple_outta_da_hat says:

    what did you expect

  4. mets19 says:

Why isnt Ryan Church back in the lineup!?!

  5. shannon says:

    Let’s go BIG PELF!!!

  6. the Straw says:

Crossroads….lets see how they play. Just as lackluster as always i would assume….

If you can not get juiced up to play this Florida team, which obvously loves beating the Mets, and is leading the division, then this team will never wake up.

  7. kendychavez says:

i think i’d rather have willie playing second at this point. he’s gotta be able to hit as well as castillo and it’ll allow somebody else to make managerial decisions.

    • apple_outta_da_hat says:

lol… i half way agree. castillo should definately NOT be batting 2nd!!!!

  8. rM teM says:

    let’s predict. I say Pelf last’s 4 innings, allows 5 runs, walks 5.

  9. wesdp1988 says:

If they don’t go on a tear now, this team will never respond to willie. This is either the beginning of the end(they just aren’t good), a reawakening(go back to 06 mets) or they have already conceded defeat(bye bye omar and willie, you didn’t get the job done).

  10. the Straw says:

This would be a great time to start a bench clearing brawl.

You got to agree with that.

  11. rM teM says:

    yeah, Wagner goes after Delgado

  12. apple_outta_da_hat says:

whudda-ya-say we act like “fans” and show some support for at least 5-6 innings.

LETS GO METS……. we havent all given up on ya!!!

  13. soulsea says:

    oh my god

  14. apple_outta_da_hat says:

    good job Pelf…. clap-clap-clap
    WTF Reyes???????????????

  15. khmustache says:

the booing was too loud, that’s why he dropped it

  16. the Straw says:

    BOOOOOOOOOO

  17. teufelshuffle86 says:

Get your head out of your ass Jose!!!!!!!!!!

  18. metsfan119 says:

That run better not score, the crowd will explode

  19. soulsea says:

    and so it goes….

  20. the Straw says:

    Here it comes….

  21. metsfan119 says:

You know what, GOOD, screw this, I hope the Mets get their asses kicked until the ownership is forced to get rid of this manager.

  22. adam900 says:

lol swept by the Marlins anyone?

  23. teufelshuffle86 says:

Another run caused by a Reyes error. I don’t know about the rest of you but Reyes’ “I don’t give a sh*t” attitude is a major part of the Mets problem. He’s starting to become a cancer to this team. I love the guy but his mental mistakes and immaturity are killing this team.

    • Don Hahn says:

just because Reyes makes a error, Pelfrey has to fall apart, he can’t pick up a teammate?

  24. rM teM says:

    I’ll change my prediction, Pelf last’s 3 innings…

  25. adam900 says:

lol. one more run, I’m shutting this.

  26. miker94 says:

    game over

  27. FIRE Willie says:

    here we go again

  28. The Glider says:

It’s not Willie’s fault that Pelfrey sucks. Lefties hitting .386 against him? C’mon, man.

Is it Willie’s fault that Jose is f-ing up? Do you want him to sit Jose?

    • FIRE Willie says:

Yes… i want him to sit every damn player that doesn’t show heart. Sit delgado, reyes, beltran and castillo for a night to send a message.

      • miker94 says:

that’s true, without a doubt he should sit delgado and reyes. not because they are playing poorly, but because they keep making mental mistakes. that can be avoided, sit their ass and make a statement already! do something if you are the manager of this team

        • gipper82475 says:

Why should he hold the players accountable? Nobody held him or anybody else accountable for The Collapse…nor was he held accountable today. Accountability is a dirty word at Shea.

        • miker94 says:

that’s true, but we all need to come to grips with the fact that willie isn’t going anywhere. and he isn’t a good enough manager to make some tactical changes to the team or mechanical changes. so at least do something motivational and bench some key players when they make mental mistakes. that’s the sort of thing that MUST stop if this team is to turn things around. these errors and baserunning blunders have got to stop.

      • The Glider says:

Sit Reyes? You guys are geniuses. We have no back-up shortstop. Who are you going to play at shortstop?

        • miker94 says:

it’s a statement man, it makes sense, it’s the sort of thing a team needs as a kick in the ass. who cares who replaces him for a night or two, it’s a statement, that’s the point. it’s obvious that everything else willie is doing isn’t working, so why not give it a shot. every time a guy gets picked off leading, or makes a stupid error, bench him. of course these things happen to players, but none as much as this team. seems every game there are 1+ errors and some other stupid mental mistakes.

        • therealsince86 says:

You guys are the same ones complaining that Willie is not trying to win every game.

        • The Glider says:

Exactly. Willie’s playing to win a game tonight. He’s going to play his best players. If he didn’t play Jose tonight, the Wilpons would fire him and justifiably so.

And, by the way, again, who would play shortstop instead of Jose? Please answer that question, Willie-haters!

        • miker94 says:

          you just don’t get it

        • FIRE Willie says:

Let Easley play SS and Tatis at 2b or visa versa.

        • therealsince86 says:

Right, you really do want Willie fired don’t you. LOL

  29. teufelshuffle86 says:

Great. Not even sure why I keep tuning in. I’m sure Reyes will come out and pop up to the SS on the first pitch. You watch.

  30. FIRE Willie says:

    why is reyes smiling???

    • therealsince86 says:

How long have you watched him play. He always deals with adversity that way.

    • breadclock says:

Because he knows it’s not his fault. I’m not saying it’s Willie’s fault, though. It’s Rickey’s fault. And Rick Down’s too. The Mets always hold people accountable.

  31. rM teM says:

I’m rooting for Evans. Got nothing else to do.

  32. soulsea says:

    Bench Reyes now!

  33. HOFMets57 says:

C’mon guys. We haven’t even picked up a bat! 2 runs isn’t insurmountable.

Have a little faith. Let’s Go Mets!

  34. Ryanesq1 says:

I think that Reyes needs to be drug tested right now. I remember watching Dwight Gooden wiping his nose a l;ot just before he went into drug treatment. Reyes either has a cold or is doing something else..

  35. Darryl Strawberry says:

Reyes WAS the face and energy of this team. His two errors have now cost us 5 runs in two games. He exits the field smiling. I’m sorry but he needs to be benched. I bet he’ll strike out to start the bot of the 1st or pop up.

  36. Church4prez says:

    JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSE!

  37. Church4prez says:

    you sound like an ass

  38. stickguy says:

2nd game in a row that Jose makes a killer error tht leads to runs that shouldn’t have scored, and a bunch of extra pitches thrown?

Although it was nice to see Delgado actually leave the ground. I didn’t think he could do it.

Have to figure this game is over, but let’s see how the offense looks in the first.

    couple of quick points:

    1) DW does look like he is heading for a nervous breakdown. I feel sorry for the poor guy.

    2) Pedro needs to get back, and now. If his latest BP or simulated game goes well, just give him Pelfreys next start. Send Pelf down to AAA, and leave him there until he learns how to pitch (and finds something that can get lefties out).

  39. Church says:

Was there a lot of booing before the first pitch? I’m not subjecting myself to actually watching the game.

  40. therealsince86 says:

Look at that ass, he is still smilling.

  41. Church4prez says:

Lol lol lol lol here comes the granny

  42. metsfan119 says:

how bout more than a run in this situation for once

  43. rM teM says:

This will not be a pitchers duel.

  44. therealsince86 says:

Look at Beltran, he was smilling too. Ass.

  45. metsfan119 says:

    a comeback!

  46. stickguy says:

The Mets must have the only clean up hitter that would bunt. And not when the pitcher is doinating, but when he is struggling…

Even worse, it loads the bags for Delgado. Guess CB hasn’t been paying attention.

  47. rM teM says:

    come on kid.

  48. Church4prez says:

    youre an ass

  49. soulsea says:

So we’ve got a $100mil+ bunter passing the buck to deldisastro!
    Outstanding.

  50. Darryl Strawberry says:

Big deal. That inning showed me nothing. Reyes homerun and then three straight hits resulting in two runs. Wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t score for the rest of the game. Pelfrey had a long first inning and lefties just tee off against him.

  51. skylog says:

have to say it again. bases loaded. no outs. one run. horrid.

  52. stickguy says:

Well, bases loaded, no outs, and they scored 1 run.

A big improvement! Could have been more if Deldono hadn’t swung at ball 3 on a 2-0 pitch.

  53. rM teM says:

    NICE SNAG!!!

  54. miker94 says:

the mets won’t get another hit the rest of the game

    • nova86 says:

      shut up

      • soulsea says:

I thing miker94’s trying to anger you

      • therealsince86 says:

You can’t win this game, this is just a venting post these days. It’s no longer a blog where intelligent people have conversations with other posters. Just give up and pick your battles.

        • gipper82475 says:

You have GOT to understand the anger today of all days.

        • therealsince86 says:

Why because mgmt did not cave in to a bunch of whinny fans that are acting like a bunch of hypocritical cry babies?

        • gipper82475 says:

No, because nobody was held accountable, AGAIN.

I thought you had finally decided Willie should go?

How quickly you abandon your principles.

        • therealsince86 says:

I still think he should. I really just don’t care and think it should end. But again, just stop whinning about it.

  55. JefJarrett says:

SNY just caught Willie clapping…………..the artist is at work, trying to paint a different picture of the manager.

    • mets19 says:

the funnies Willie moment, in my opinion, is when they showed him holding the cup of water and then throwing it when something bad happened.

  56. Church4prez says:

    shut up

    • JefJarrett says:

3 out of your last 4 posts have been calling people asses….or telling people to shut up.

      Calm the eff down dude

      • The Glider says:

That’s what happens when a rapid mob tries to force a firing.

        • JefJarrett says:

LOL, understood……..be as angry as you want then.

Actually, I thought the media was disappointed that Willie wasn’t fired…….they sounded that way at the press conference anyway.

        • therealsince86 says:

Exactly the majority of Mets fans either don’t care or want Willie to remain. It’s the vocal minority that is forcing a firing.

        • gipper82475 says:

          As were Mets fans.

        • The Glider says:

Of course they’re disappointed. The firing of Willie would sell papers and get ratings!

        • The Glider says:

          Not real Mets fans, Gipper.

        • metsfan119 says:

No, just the smart Mets fans Gipper

        • khmustache says:

i love how everyone assumes that they are the only “real” mets fans…

        • therealsince86 says:

No Glider I am sure there are quite a few real Mets fans who want Willie fired. However, there are quite a few who do not and some who just don’t care and want it all to end. This is an incredibly whinny fanbase right now.

        • JefJarrett says:

I was upset at the way the media continued to harp on the matter……….constantly bringing up points at the press conference to Omar (I wish I remembered what it was now…..) where Omar was like….LOOK….Willie is the manager! Period!

It was almost like they were trying to convince him to fire willie

        • therealsince86 says:

Nothing better than controversy in NY. Matt, as much as I love his blog, makes a living off of it.

  57. JefJarrett says:

I think its time to DL Church. Listening to Burkhart’s report on him is downright scary……..he just needs 2 weeks off.

    • Church says:

What did they say about him?

      • JefJarrett says:

Doesn’t remember pinch hitting in games………..

Passed on interview until he “felt better”…..and hasn’t felt better as of yet.

        • gipper82475 says:

Basically, he’s loco at the moment. Flights to/from Denver really were unhelpful. Doesn’t even remember pinch-hitting yesterday. Going to see a specialist tomorrow…probably better off on DL.

Typical Mets luck – our one bright spot so far and his brain gets scrambled. Let’s hope the cobwebs clear soon.

  58. dominicanboy08 says:

    jose!!!!!

  59. khmustache says:

    paint me stunned…nice hitting reyes!

  60. rM teM says:

leadoff man with 2 homers, cleanup man with a bunt single. WTF?

  61. nova86 says:

    LOOK GUYS! NO MORE HITS

  62. therealsince86 says:

Holly crap, how can he still be smilling. Does he not realize he commited an error. Ass.

  63. The Glider says:

So, Jose should sit. Miker and FIRE Willie????? Such incisive insight from the both of you!

    • miker94 says:

again, you just don’t get it, you fool!

      • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

        I don’t get it, please enlighten me…

        • The Glider says:

Ha. Where’s Miker94 now? Hiding in his closet no doubt. Hey Miker, I wouldn’t want to be in a fox hole with you, pal.

      • therealsince86 says:

What do you not get fool? Not everyone in the fanbase thinks the way you do.

        • therealsince86 says:

Calm down there JDuelz if you would actually read and respect the posters on here you would notice that I am or was until now on your side.

        • gipper82475 says:

I think JDuelz has proven his observational skills, reading comprehension and intellect in this little exchange alone. Attacking his ally! LOL

        • therealsince86 says:

          LOL
And Gipp I am proud this is your second post of 81 today not complaining about Willie.

        • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

If you were on my side, then I thank you. If you still are, then I commend you for overseeing my idiocy.

Hah, sorry, it’s hard to see where people stand on these comments now-a-days, and with all the BS floating around here, I just can’t keep up with who’s who, even though I do recall your username on here for quite some time now (not that I consider myself a pioneer on here by any means).

P.S. Gipper, I believe I overreacted, but you have to see where I’m coming from when it at first seemed as if he was trying to get me…

        • therealsince86 says:

It’s no prob. JDulez but I try to be respectful to all of the posters on here.

        • gipper82475 says:

No worries, JDuelz, you just seemed to be doing more namecallinng than constructive comments today and I thought it hysterical that you jumped ugly with TRS86.

  64. The Glider says:

    Miker94, where are you?

  65. the Straw says:

AT this rate Reyes will hit 9 Homeruns in the game. Put it in the books. Florida cant beat that kind of performance.

    • apple_outta_da_hat says:

what a sarcastic prick…. you might as well jump over to to the other NY team.

  66. soulsea says:

    Dare we hope?

  67. dominicanboy08 says:

wright and reyes are the key to this offense!!!!

  68. FIRE Willie says:

Look at the Mets… what’s going on tonight… Cheerleader Willie probably told them to B-E A-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E

  69. metsfanatic says:

They need to keep putting pressure on Nolasco. He is definitely hittable.

  70. The Glider says:

    Miker, where ARE you??????

    • therealsince86 says:

He’s a troll, he only comes out from under the bridge when the Mets are losing. He will turn to a big pile of poo if he post when they are winning.

    • miker94 says:

listen genius, it’s obvious that you’ve never played on a baseball team and/or coached one. i’ve done both for many, many years and what i’m saying makes sense. and if you would actually open your mind and pay attention, you’ll understand what i’m trying to say. i am not saying, nor would I ever say that benching reyes or delgado or whomever, is something that will make this team win. would it have an adverse effect and actually produce even worse results, probably! but the point is that the way things are going with this team, it’s obvious that something must change. it’s what every single person on this site has been saying for weeks now. the decision was made today that willie is staying, so a new manager is out of the question. wilie has shown that he can’t mechanically or tactilly make any drastic changes in game or out to make the players better and he’s shown that he hasn’t really been able to motivate his team into playing better either. and i’d say that we all understand that him kicking buckets and throwing things isn’t the answer either. therefore, on a team that keeps making mental mistakes over and over and over, maybe it’s time to bench a few guys. this might be the only thing that motivates them to get their heads into the game a little more. and not just benching guys for one mistake, but ones like getting picked off due to lack of focus or other mental mistakes. the only reason people here are freaking out because of a statement like , “bench reyes,” is ONLY because he already hit 2 HR’s. if he popped up to the 3rd basemen twice already, every one of you would be agreeing with me. which says a lot, but perhaps you may not understand that. bottom line is, a change is needed with this team and everything that has been done to date has not worked, for over a full year now. so why not do something else, something drastic? it can’t get any worse can it? and i’d bet anything the wilpons would back willie up if he did it. not for a month, just a few games. make a statement already.

      • therealsince86 says:

The problem is that benching him is not going to make him better. It’s not like he is trying to lose.

        • miker94 says:

i understand that, and you are right, it won’t make him better, and i know he is not trying to lose, but it’s a mental thing. sit him down, maybe he gets mad and takes a different approach to the game and gets a little more serious. i’m not saying it will work, but why not try? nothing else seems to be working

        • therealsince86 says:

Do you bench Wagner for blowing a save? Or maybe just bench him to bench him. Nothing else has worked. Maybe Wright too?

        • miker94 says:

no, see i knew you didn’t get it. wagner blowing a save isn’t a mental mistake that keeps happening over and over and over. same with wright. his throws to 1st are a mechanical thing, not a mental thing. how can you not be following me here?

        • therealsince86 says:

LOL. You get to decide what is mechanical and mental. That’s great. So if a basketball player misses a freethrow is it mental or mechanical. Is it nature vs. nurture?

        • miker94 says:

you are getting all technical here. listen, when a player is leading off 2nd and gets picked off without even making an attempt to get back to 2nd, it’s cause he is not paying attention, that’s mental. when a player swings at the 1st pitch over and over and over, and the end result is almost always a pop up, that’s mental. making a mistake like grounding out or throwing a bad pitch or bobbling a groundball is mechanical, those things happen. i’m just saying, have you heard any other solutions to this teams’ problems? willie keeps saying that there is a problem and, “we have to do something to fix it,” but what is “something?” he keeps saying that, but offers no solution. and if he is working on some solution, it sure as hell isn’t working. again, i’m not saying that benching players WILL solve the problems, but it can’t get things any worse and maybe, just maybe it will light a fire under the entire teams’ asses and maybe things might turn around. again, what else is being done to fix things? nothing!

        • therealsince86 says:

Again, you have no idea what is being done. I am sure Willie is trying things and Omar is on the phone trying to improve the team. It’s just not working.

        • miker94 says:

well that’s obvious, and you are right again, i do not know what is being done. but again, whatever it is, it doesn’t work. the only thing we DO know is that benching players has not been one of the things willie has tried. either way, we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

  71. metsforever says:

Church needs to go on the DL, even though there is obviously no replacement available (Casanova called up for Alou). Concussions are nothing to fool around with and can go way beyond baseball games. He needs time to get the cobwebs out and the team needs a warm body.

  72. rM teM says:

sometimes I like to wave back to the morons who wave to the tv cameras. It’s something to do.

  73. metsfanatic says:

Sounds like they should bring up Valentin,

  74. the Straw says:

hahaa Dusty Baker…the only Manager worse than Willie Randolph.

  75. rM teM says:

    BRAWL!

  76. metsfan119 says:

Somebody teach this guy an out pitch

  77. apple_outta_da_hat says:

    good job pelf… F him

  78. Church4prez says:

    BRAWl!!!

  79. the Straw says:

Pelfrey really can not throw any off-speed pitches for strikes. Its absurd how he can be a major league pitcher.

  80. metsfan119 says:

Gonzo had 57 homers in one season. He wasn’t on the juice though…..and Willie Randolph is in MENSA

  81. rM teM says:

    sigh

  82. Darryl Strawberry says:

    Game over.

    • therealsince86 says:

Are you and Mike under the same bridge? You did not post a single post while we were winning, but now you come back on when we are losing to proclaim AGAIN that the game is over.

  83. adam900 says:

    wow what a lucky bloop.

  84. iluvbuckner says:

    Shoulda gotten a live chicken.

    • metsfan119 says:

not even your Major League reference could put a smile on my face. The Mets aren’t just bad, they have an ownership who refuse to accept the problem

  85. skylog says:

i have to say it again. two outs. no one on. 3 more runs scored.

    • adam11216 says:

4 runs. that almost seems impossible, unless you’re trying to give up runs. crowd sounds too abgry to even boo.

  86. the Straw says:

He needs to be sent down. He is so not ready to pitch in the big leagues. Bring back Figueroa.

  87. skylog says:

    nothing changes with this team.

  88. Darryl Strawberry says:

Sickening. This team just finds ways to lose every game. Whether the offense sputters or the pitchers can’t find the strike zone and constantly allow runs to score with two outs. It’s going to get to the point soon that the whole team needs to be dismantled. However they will stay stubborn and continue to put this poor product on the field.

  89. Church4prez says:

F**k THE MARLINS . START A FIGHT NOW. THEY HATE THE METS

  90. Danny1986 says:

    Losing…….is a disease.

  91. the Straw says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  92. apple_outta_da_hat says:

    AAAHHHHHH !@#$%^&!@#$%
    what else is new

  93. adam900 says:

    wow this team sucks.

  94. Church4prez says:

heilman up in the 3rd can you say starter?

  95. skylog says:

way to finish them off mike. unreal. i hoped that maybe today would be the start of something…they have fooled me yet again

  96. rM teM says:

The problem is wthere is so much money invested in this team. You can’t trade the guys with overpriced salaries. It’ll take a long time to rebuild the farms. We’re stuck with this sheit.

  97. Danny1986 says:

    Heilman warming up.

It’s almost as if Willie has already planned his mid-summer European vacation.

  98. Mex_17 says:

Seriously, why isn’t Church on the DL??

If he can’t remember playing the other day, he shouldn’t be playing. This is insane. I know the guy is a gamer, but two brutal concussions within two months could do lasting damage.

  99. Jefferies 9 says:

I’ve been very patient with Mike Pelfrey, as I am with most Met prospects, but he is not ready to pitch every fifth day in the majors. He lacks an out pitch and is extremely inconsistent.

  100. Lord Charles Curveball says:

Mike Pelfrey is a bust. How many more lessons in what not to throw major league hitters do we have to suffer through as a collective fanbase.

  101. metsfan119 says:

I think the ownership has to have another meeting, this time with the whole team. They can have a discussion about their feelings regarding Willie’s racial comments. That’s the jolt the team needs.

  102. HITorDIE25 says:

Offense doing its part and once again Pelf cant get it done. When is it enough to send him down and get some work? Bring up someone that will keep us in the game and prehaps go beyond 5 innings.

    • metsfan119 says:

What’s the point, then the offense wouldn’t do anything. They’re like the see-saw of sht.

  103. joon8 says:

    Any booing yet?

  104. metsfan119 says:

I would not want to be around for Willie Randolph bobblehead night

  105. Darryl Strawberry says:

The Mets rushed Pelfrey. He never got a chance to develop properly. Now who knows if he ever will.

    • Danny1986 says:

I’ve never seen the pre-Peterson Pelfrey. But from what I understand, he was a power pitcher. Then Peterson got his hands on him and started tinkering with his natural approach to pitching.

Who knows what option is better. But what is clear is that he doesn’t have the marbles upstairs to take on Peterson’s instructions, nor downstairs to deal with pressure.

  106. Boooooo says:

its not even the team tonight. Pelfrey SUX!!!!!!

    WHY WASNT THE JACKET FIRED????????????

OUR PITCHING HAS BOMBED FOR A STRAIGHT WEEK!!!!!!!!

  107. SantanaCYYOung says:

game over guys, we’ll get ‘em tomorrow

  108. SantanaCYYOung says:

the bats will go to sleep as they always do

  109. skylog says:

call me a non-believer if you want, but since the team has not come back trailing by three runs all season, i just don’t see it happening tonight. maybe, big maybe, if they didn’t give up any more runs, but, come on.

my only question is will they look dead over the next 4 innings only to score a token run or two late in the game after they give up another two field goals.

from above, just in case “the glider” didn’t read it yet.

listen genius, it’s obvious that you’ve never played on a baseball team and/or coached one. i’ve done both for many, many years and what i’m saying makes sense. and if you would actually open your mind and pay attention, you’ll understand what i’m trying to say. i am not saying, nor would I ever say that benching reyes or delgado or whomever, is something that will make this team win. would it have an adverse effect and actually produce even worse results, probably! but the point is that the way things are going with this team, it’s obvious that something must change. it’s what every single person on this site has been saying for weeks now. the decision was made today that willie is staying, so a new manager is out of the question. wilie has shown that he can’t mechanically or tactilly make any drastic changes in game or out to make the players better and he’s shown that he hasn’t really been able to motivate his team into playing better either. and i’d say that we all understand that him kicking buckets and throwing things isn’t the answer either. therefore, on a team that keeps making mental mistakes over and over and over, maybe it’s time to bench a few guys. this might be the only thing that motivates them to get their heads into the game a little more. and not just benching guys for one mistake, but ones like getting picked off due to lack of focus or other mental mistakes. the only reason people here are freaking out because of a statement like , “bench reyes,” is ONLY because he already hit 2 HR’s. if he popped up to the 3rd basemen twice already, every one of you would be agreeing with me. which says a lot, but perhaps you may not understand that. bottom line is, a change is needed with this team and everything that has been done to date has not worked, for over a full year now. so why not do something else, something drastic? it can’t get any worse can it? and i’d bet anything the wilpons would back willie up if he did it. not for a month, just a few games. make a statement already.

    • metinDC23 says:

You lost me when you talked yourself up.

    • therealsince86 says:

Who has time to read it twice. If he wanted to read it once that would be bad enough. I know I wasted a good minute of my life that I can never get back reading that garbage. You owe me a minute MIke.

  111. Mex_17 says:

Do the Wilpons even like the Mets?

I know the Dodgers are their favorite team. Maybe they bought the Mets just for the hell of it, and decided to turn them into a circus.

That’s pretty much the only explanation I can come up for why the Wilpons are happy to flush $130 million down the toilet like this. They seem content that this disaster will just go on indefinitely.

    • gipper82475 says:

LOL…I’m surprise they could pull Fred away from his neverending search to find more Dodgers and NY (baseball) Giants names to use for naming sections of Citi Field.

I mean, seriously…..”Coogan’s Landing,” “the Ebbets Club,” “the Orchard”, oy vey. How about naming some things in the new state-of-the-art Mets stadium for, I dunno, former Mets greats and Mets history?

Anyway, evidently freddy was still combing the history books and watching Ken Burns’ baseball documentaries even during the meeting today – it’s the only explanation for his failure to remember to fire our delusional manager.

      • metsfan119 says:

It is pretty pathetic that the Mets are so preoccupied with an extinct team that they have no connection with.

  112. metsfan119 says:

It’s bad when you have no faith in your team’s players, but it’s downright frightening when you have zero faith in all three levels of the Mets hierarchy

  113. soulsea says:

Oh, won’t somebody think of the children!

  114. OrangeNBlueSince82 says:

Pelfrey is the most unintimidating 6-foot-7 man I have ever seen. I know he hasn’t had his fair share of time in the minors, but the guy just doesn’t have that look of a confident pitcher. The Mets thought he would one day have the makings of an ace or at least a No. 2? I highly doubt that will ever happen. They always tout him as a ground ball pitcher, yet it seems the ground balls he gets are one that go down the line for doubles.

  115. skylog says:

looks about right…or at least business as usual.

6 runs. 5 hits. 6 runs with 2 outs. bases loaded. 2 outs. 3 in.

3 runs. 6 hits. 0 runs with 2 outs. bases loaded. 0 outs. 1 in.

they can’t do it on offense. they can’t stop it on defense. this has been the story for the 08 mets.

  116. the Straw says:

When was the last time the Mets were 6 games out of 1st place?!?!?!

    • skylog says:

      don’t you mean 7?

    • gipper82475 says:

I have spent much of my life with the Mets at that point or worse….and it’s sad to see them regressing to the 90s, the mid-seventies through early 80s, etc, etc….pick your craptastic Mets era.

      • skylog says:

i am sure i will get ripped for this, but it was actually more fun to root and watch those poor teams (although i was not around for some of those you mention) becuase they did not have so much talent and you could just watch and root for something good to happen and be genuinely excited when it did.

this team is just not fun to watch right now. so much talent just not getting it done. dumb play. lazy play. no fundamentals. everyone goes back to 06, but it fits, they were playing smart, showing fire and getting it done. if they were down 4 in the 7th, i thought they were going to come back, and quote often they did. this year, if they are up 4 in the 7th (which has been rare) i fear they will lose, and it seems often they have.

        that said. i still hope.

  117. NYMJman says:

better get some runs soon.. b/c we know that if it’s past the 6th inning.. they can’t come back.

this team has been playing sub .500 ball for more than a year now. so.. does that mean all those rosy optimists are no longer on this site?

omar is as much to blame for this $137 million disaster as is willie as are the players. after this team could not scratch out a run in that 6th inning AFTER endy’s amazing catch.. the fact that they could not beat suppan or weaver ONCE!!!! the fact they followed up that disappointment (when they were clearly the best) with 3 months of little hitting during summer 2007 and then of course.. the collapse…

what can we really expect to change? stop buying into ‘win now’ – that NEVER WORKS. ticket prices rise.. production on the field declines. i’d rather see a TEAM be put together.. and not a bunch of Bustrans.

    • OrangeNBlueSince82 says:

Beltran homered off Weaver and won the first game of the ‘06 NLDS. Not trying to be a jerk, just saying.

      • NYMJman says:

        not a jerk. you’re right.

they scored a whopping 2 runs and won.. Bustran homered. then they proceeded to score 3 runs combined off him and Suppan.

all i am saying is.. after that catch.. at home.. bases juiced and one out after that.. NYY win that game. AZ and FLA win that game.. BOS wins that game. and even STL wins that game.. I guess world champions win that game.. but to me.. that has always spoke to something bigger.. in terms of what’s missing. then their encore was magnificent.

I don’t what my point is.. but.. the makeup of this team.. is tired.

  118. ryankobayashi says:

This makes me want to cry. They look pumped and then they’re let down.

  119. dr jones says:

I hope this doesn’t get ugly.. Its starting to look like another long night. SNY better not cut away when willie walks out to the mound..

  120. Danny1986 says:

How is this the 2nd best team in MLB2K8?

  121. I garanttee you hunter doesn’t let that liner get by him. Beltran isn’t the best CF in baseball fielding wise and certainly not hitting wise.

  122. Danny1986 says:

Good to see Ramirez doing his JOse Reyes impersonation.

  123. mets19 says:

MOVE REYES TO SECOND AND TRADE FOR KAZ MATSUI SO HE CAN PLAY SS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Danny1986 says:

while you’re at it…..why don’t you just break into my condo, take all my cold Stella, and kick my dog on your way out?

  124. Well Remirez is hitting 320 and has about 40 runs scored and 11 SBs

  125. Danny1986 says:

….and now Reyes does his Tanner Boyle impersonation.

  126. Crisera says:

    Heilman? O god

  127. metsfan119 says:

“I am proud to be an A-me-ri-can cause at least I know I’m freeeee”

Thanks Mets, for getting that song stuck in my head

  128. the Straw says:

    …and the Phillies keep scoring…

    • apple_outta_da_hat says:

      trollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  129. So taguci is still killing teh mets

  130. I used to think Reyes was the best young player in baseball and the best ss in the division. But he is a distant third now behind rollins and hanly with Escobar creeping up on him

  131. Darryl Strawberry says:

Ater the Marlins sweep this series, we will be 8.5 games out of first place.

    • therealsince86 says:

After the Mets sweep this series they will be blah blah blah.
Can you stop with the predictions?

  132. rM teM says:

    that’s not an error?

  133. Crisera says:

When did the marlins get Jones, i forgot?

  134. Danny1986 says:

Reyes is going down right now. hit the dirt.

  135. soulsea says:

Oh, please won’t somebody think of the children?

  136. He still has the potential. I don’t think Willie has handeled him that well, telling him to stop the handshakes and benching him in Houston in the middle of a game.

    • therealsince86 says:

Wait, I thought he was supposed to bench him?
Willie really can’t win, pun intended.

  137. NYwho27 says:

They should send pelfrey down to new orleans with heilman he is flat out brutal, I thought having schneider back was suppose to help him, he has been a bust!

  138. khmustache says:

    that’ll kill a rally

  139. The mets can’t string hits together. They had chemistry in 2006. Where has it gone?

  140. Danny1986 says:

    Castillo……yep, that sounds about right.

  141. the Straw says:

HAHAHAHA so awful…and here comes Heilman time. its going to get a lot worse.

  142. metsforever says:

I know that rebuilding is a 4 letter word in NY, but does anybody really think that there is a chance to win with this bunch. The ship for this team sailed in 2006. I think it is time to have an auction and see if the ship can be righted for 2010 or 11. Keep Reyes, Wright and Santana and put the rest of the team on sale. I bet Beltran would be valuable as he will excel outside NY (you can almost guarantee that). Wagner might bring something at the deadline because the good teams need relief all the time. Alou might be a decent DH. Unfortunately, there would likely be little demand for anyone else. I doubt Castillo or Delgado would be worth anything no matter how much $$$ the Mets throw in. Maybe Feliciano brings something in July as well. Nobody wants to rebuild, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet. The Marlins do it all the time, and pretty well. It starts with Willie and Omar getting the boot so rebuilding can start fresh. Omar made this mess and can’t be trusted to fix it.

    • Noone will take Beltrans rediculous contract, and he is one of Omar’s guys anyway. They need hard nose players not named castillo.

      • metsforever says:

they might with some money and maybe taking a contract back. depends on what the mets are willing to pay. I really think Beltran will be good if he gets out of here. He was excellent with Houston and KC

        • OrangeNBlueSince82 says:

I suppose 74 homers and 228 RBI and two Gold Gloves over the last two seasons makes him a bad player? I’d really like to see what a good player is then.

    • oleosmirf says:

ive been wanting to rebuild for the past 6 months now…

to do that Omar must go.

    • Gina says:

Other than Church and possibly Wagner, I don’t see us getting much for anyone else on the team.

And if they’re going to rebuild the first thing they should do is completely revamp our farm system, because we seem to have major issues with scouting and player development.

  143. dykstraw says:

wow, luis castillo sure was a great sign

  144. Crisera says:

    bring carlos muniz

  145. Pelfrey’s sinker doesn’t actually sink, it moves a 1/4″ inch to the right batters box

    • NYMJman says:

to me.. it’s Pelfrey’s head that’s the problem. and unfortunately.. i don’t know if it can be fixed any time soon. definitely not up at this level.

  146. playmaker3128 says:

Why the hell is castillo still batting 2nd. I don’t care if he has two hits today. Thats like the 5th time in the last week he’s grounded into a double play when we had a rally going.

    • washtiger says:

You just beat me to this. Mr. Kill a Rally strikes again with the GIDP cr*p. Unbelievable…

  147. oleosmirf says:

pelfrey doesnt have the stuff to be a starter. his transition to the bullpen should start ASAP.

    • metsforever says:

That’s actually a pretty good idea. He could dump the secondary pitches and go back to power for an inning or two.

  148. FIRE Willie says:

    Heilman’s Line:

    2.2 IP 7H 5 ER 0K 3BB

  149. rM teM says:

    Heilman! yes!!!!!

  150. Darryl Strawberry says:

I doubt we will score again this game. The Marlins bullpen has been terrific. Oh and my predictions are most of the time true, realsince86. Then again it’s kind of easy to predict this team since everything has gone wrong since Sept. 07.

    • therealsince86 says:

It’s much easier to predict a loss when you only come on when they are… losing. Also, if I remember earlier this season you predicted getting swept by the Yankee’s and the Phillies. How did that go?

      • NYMJman says:

haven’t posted in a year.. come back tonight.. and you’re still whining.

win.. loss.. what is this team inspiring for anyone right now?

where has their ability to comeback gone? trailing past the sixth.. this team has comeback once this season.

people are rightfully frustrated.. optimism for the sake of it.. is misguided. reality is.. this team has not played what it’s capable of for ONE SOLID YEAR. and they keep getting older.. slower.. more fragile.. and less exciting.

i just want to see some inspiring consistent good baseball.. haven’t seen any since may 2007.

  151. I know its obvious but Luis Castillo for 28mill was almost as bad as the kasmir trade

    • therealsince86 says:

25 but why let facts get in the way.

    • Gina says:

I would say that’s reaching. We can afford to eat Castillo’s contract, not saying we will but we can and at the time thats what Castillo’s market value was. We can’t just magically make another young future ace appear, which is evident by the disasters that were/are Humber and Pelfrey.

  152. Darryl Strawberry says:

After this game Heliman and Pelfrey ned to be optioned to AAA in favor of Armas Jr. and Muniz.

  153. Danny1986 says:

I can’t think of a better message to send to these players than to cut Castillo right now.

Oh…you have a 4 year contract? Ok…but you arent getting the job done. Hit the road. If there really was a market for this guy in the offseason, than Omar should have some level of confidence in some team picking him and his contract up off of waivers.

    • therealsince86 says:

Castillo is not the problem, his OBP is one of the better ones on the team and he has the least amount of K’s. He has been close to what is expected, pick on Reyes, Wright, and Beltran.

      • Danny1986 says:

i honestly have never understood your allegiance to Castillo and you constantly using his OBP as justification.

There is more to this game than just OBP.

        • therealsince86 says:

But not for your #2 hitter. That is the most important thing, that and not striking out.
I do not think he is an allstar just a role player. My point still is that he is not the problem.

        • Danny1986 says:

Seriously, where do you get your material from? sources please.

        • therealsince86 says:

What material or sources are you refering to? I am stating a well know fact in baseball knowledge that you want an high contact high OBP guy batting 2nd? Look around the NL and see.

        • Danny1986 says:

I don’t know what material and sources. That is why I am asking you.

“That is the most important thing, that and not striking out.”

I am speaking in reference to that statement. And that statement alone.

        • therealsince86 says:

It’s just common baseball knowledge. Come on. Like I said look around the league at common #2 hitters.

        • Danny1986 says:

Luis Castillo’s career OBP is actually a few points higher than Edgardo Alfonzo.

Who would you rather have batting 2nd?

        • therealsince86 says:

          Right now?

        • Danny1986 says:

          thank you.

        • therealsince86 says:

Again that’s not a fair question. Alfonzo was one of our stars then. Castillo is a role player. My point is that he is not the problem on this team.

  154. JOe Crede should be the mets 1st baseman next year. Rowand called him teh clutchest player he’s ever played with:
Clutcher then Rollins , Utley, Howard, Dye ect…
He is like Ryan church a hard nose player

  155. Plus Joe Cree won’t cost as much as texiera whoi will be like delgado towards the end of the contract.

    • oleosmirf says:

are you serious??? money is no object to the mets.

we need a guy who is guarenteed .280 30 HR 100 RBIs and is under the age of 28.

  156. Crisera says:

This is Aaron’s last chance to shine.

I say bring him down make him a starting pitcher, trade him for some talent in left field, 1st base, or catcher. Cause Alou and Delgado are old, and Brian is not great.

  157. Credes nickname in Chicago is Late inning Joe

  158. rM teM says:

are “clutchest” and “clutcher” real words?

  159. metsforever says:

Heilman’s great when the game is over.

  160. metinDC23 says:

I just heard the words “Solid inning from Aaron Heilman”…

  161. Crisera says:

Last Chance, until the 6th then we are done.

  162. Darryl Strawberry says:

You’re right I’m not always right, but this team has given me no reason to have faith. I’m just jaded man. Been watching this team too long. Surrounded by Yankee fans everyday. This sucks.

  163. playmaker3128 says:

Actually i think heilman would be better as a starter. He has the stuff, plus he’s usually pretty good coming in at the beggining of an inning as opposed to with runners on base. I wouldn’t mind giving him a shot.

Some teams still view him as a starter, they must see something. I think if we wanted to we could also trade him for another bullpen arm, because of that reason.

We need to chip away here!

  164. metsforever says:

The next 3 run comeback will be the first. Not much hope

  165. toomanyuniforms says:

Crede? It’s come to that? We can ask his agent, SCOTT BORAS. Maybe we’ll get a bargain. . . .

  166. Where is that lone blooger who is a willie fan, who usually tells met fans to treet this team like the 27 yankees.
    Metsarebest something like that

  167. the Straw says:

6-3 is not that big of a deficit at all. But with this team, its like being down 10-3.

  168. metsforever says:

Time for another Delgado GIDP. Man I am jaded.

  169. playmaker3128 says:

Ok gotta get at least 1 or 2 here. Cmon delgado keep it going.

  170. Its like being Ralph nador in hopes of the precidency

  171. MudvilleNine says:

Hands above the ball produces linedrives, just like I said. Oh and just like other coaches have said, I didnt invent it. Just always said it.

  172. double steal….be aggressive

  173. the Straw says:

odds Delgado hits into a Double Play? 1:1?

  174. metsforever says:

At least it wasn’t a DP.

But Shneider can’t hit at all.

  175. Crisera says:

Last Chance, until the 6th then we are done. GIDP

  176. NYMJman says:

    delgadold and slow.. and stinky.

can’t wait until he is gone.

  177. playmaker3128 says:

wow, and there in lies a huge problem with this team. 0 outs and delgado is taking ruthian HR cuts. We need to be more patient, then if we get a pitch to hit hammer it. But delgado should be looking the other way there.

    • NYMJman says:

Delgado’s rapid decline is what no one predicted.. and the most disturbing.

and .. you know.. he really doesn’t give a _____. you can hear it in his comments. he’s going through the motions. just pay me my $18 million.

  178. oleosmirf says:

delgado with his signature rally killing out

  179. the_other_matt says:

    This is crazy!

  180. Ryanesq1 says:

That was a productive out because it wasn’t two outs. Way to go Carlos!

  181. NYMJman says:

    and more bad luck

  182. khmustache says:

schneider has phill collins for his walkup music…wow

  183. the_other_matt says:

two base stealing threats on, down by two, no-one in motion.

  184. playmaker3128 says:

Wow how many balls have we hit directly at someone this season.

  185. Crisera says:

come on LETS GO METS LETS GO METS lol

  186. The mets should play Johan santana at 1st base

  187. rM teM says:

    come on kid

  188. metsforever says:

Jacobs would look pretty good at 1B right now. Can’t moan too much though, it looked good at the time and 2006 was almost worth it.

    • MudvilleNine says:

If he was playing for us he would have hit the runner in the back with the throw.

    • NYMJman says:

Delgado’s rapid decline is what no one predicted.. and the most disturbing.

and .. you know.. he really doesn’t give a _____. you can hear it in his comments. he’s going through the motions. just pay me my $18 million.

  189. the_other_matt says:

    PA-Thet-IC

  190. the_other_matt says:

    or should that be: Pa-Met-Ic

  191. playmaker3128 says:

What did this ump all of a sudden expand the zone?

Wow can’t believe we couldnt’ get one right there.

  192. Thats it, I’m making a pilgramige to Japan to cheer the Tokyo Giants, and there manager. They play the game right

  193. Crisera says:

thats it game over. mets lose again

  194. I wish I was at shea to boo willie

    • Crisera says:

How is this Willie’s fault. Give the guy a brake. It’s not his fault fricking Pelfrey can’t pitch his way out of a paper bag, and His two best players in the outfield are hurt.

  195. metsforever says:

This pitcher is awful and they still can’t hit him. I know it’s not Willie’s fault that the players suck, but doesn’t somebody have to take responsibility? Omar?

Jeff and Fred, maybe you need to glance across town. The hammer is always on those guys.

  196. DMAT89 says:

Well Evans probably wont be playing tomorrow since he’s got an 0 for going, but Delgado can keep failing miserably and he will stay play!!

  197. mrosey says:

this is just a classic example of being only as good as your starting pitcher. Mets have had some bad plays, some lack of execution, and some bad luck but in the end that four spot which is ENTIRELY on Pelfrey is the killer

  198. DMAT89 says:

    still play**

  199. the Straw says:

Everyone in that dugout. Everyone on this site. Anyone he plays for or roots for the Mets should be embarrassed.

This team is so painful to watch.

  200. Darryl Strawberry says:

My intentions aren’t to break anyone. I’m just venting, which is perfectly exceptable on a blog. I don’t attack others and don’t break the rules of the site. So If you don’t like my posts then don’t read them.

    • therealsince86 says:

No it was at one time not perfectly acceptable on this blog. But now that’s all it seems to be, so feel free.

    • darkstar73 says:

before you came here, and seemingly brought all your friends with you, “just venting” wasn’t really the norm around here, it was kind of frowned upon, most people just talked baseball, good or bad.

      • therealsince86 says:

Thanks Darkstar, I wish Matt would have 2 comment sections. Seriously.

        • therealsince86 says:

Some of these guys on here make me actually miss Mr. Met and Firemetsm…..

        • Danny1986 says:

pedroissavior and saviorispedro. you can’t forget those clowns.

or was that before your time?

        • therealsince86 says:

No I have been here since the first few months. I was even around during Metsonline. Those guys were the same guys right?

        • darkstar73 says:

i wasn’t around for metsonline, I think i got here right after they started up metsblog, either way, it sure has changed a lot. I mean, I still remember ellegirldetective and mrmet41, some real classic trollers.

        • therealsince86 says:

I remember when you were considered the negative one. LOL.

        • gipper82475 says:

You guys are proving your points wrong…we’ve always had ellegirldetctive and Mr. Met in his various guises and their ilk.

That said, you guys paint with a very broad brush when criticising fans who are down or negative at the moment as all being like the aforementioned tools. There are pleny of loyal, intelligent Mets who are simply at their wits end in the wake of The Collapse, Willie styaing thereafter and then today as the topper.

        • darkstar73 says:

I was considered negative? wow, even I don’t remember that, I thought i’ve always been the rose-colored glasses Omar loving kool-aid drinking optimist on this site.

  201. Ludacrispat says:

Honestly, Willie is bad, but what is he supposed to do? First and second no out for Delgado and he pops up. Bases loaded no out and he swings at a ball on 2-0 and only can muster a shallow sac fly. He has no choice put to put Pelfrey out there and he just sucks up the joint every time.

Willie definitely needs to go, but this team is just bad. It isn’t ALL Willie’s fault.

  202. metsforever says:

Don’t mean to sound like a Willie defender, but how would you like your job depending on Pelfrey and Heilman and this lineup? Man, I wouldn’t sleep very well.

  203. metsforever says:

    Gary is great.

He just about called the team a bunch of quitters. Can’t say it out loud, but you know what he is thinking.

  204. metsforever says:

Heilman great again. You can tell the game is out of hand

    • Mex_17 says:

Haha…No kidding, I knew he was going to shine tonight because the game was already getting out of hand. (Yes, 3 runs for the Mets is out of hand.)

I think he will excel in his new role as useless mop up man. As long as they never put him into a close game, he’ll be fine.

  205. the Straw says:

Its true. Its obviously not just Willie. But willie is the 1st change that has to be made. Because changes to the players are way more drastic and will probably end in this team totally throwing in the towel for 2008.

  206. LouMonte says:

    Aaron Heilman???????????

  207. the_other_matt says:

You cant fire Beltran, Delgado, or any of the other players so someone has to take the fall.

    • metsforever says:

Sure you can, it just costs money. Toronto fired Frank Thomas. It really doesn’t cost anything either because that money is already spent.

    • the Straw says:

Exactly…I dont think anyone feels like a new manager is just going to magically turn things around, but most feel like there is a better chance with a new leader, than just staying with status quo.

    • oleosmirf says:

      but u can trade them

      • therealsince86 says:

Well you can’t really trade Delgado and you would have to be an idiot to trade Beltran.

        • metsforever says:

Not so sure about trading Beltran. He may be the one guy who is worth something valuable. If you look, assuming you won’t move Wright and Reyes, Beltran is the only player on the team who could bring back value.

        • therealsince86 says:

Beltran’s contract will not allow you to trade him to many teams. Also, who on earth could you find to replace him? A gold golve, silver slugger, CF?

        • gipper82475 says:

Silver slugger? Not from what we are seeing this year.

  208. dominicanboy08 says:

pelfry should be send down and give heilman a couple of starts to see how he does as a starter, he is looking good now

  209. njmatt says:

Seriously guys, I mean, I’m not a Willie defender. But the players flat out need to play better and this team needs to find a way to get rid of Delgado who I think is a black hole in the lineup and a bad influence in the locker room. He seems to think this is his team, but he doesn’t play well and isn’t accountable.

I mean, he seems like a very immature person, remember how after the Mets didn’t sign him before 05, he trashed Omar and Tony B? When he was hitting, it wasn’t so bad having someone like that on the team, but now he’s a waste.

In my personal opinion, Delgado needs to go way before Willie and I am glad Willie didn’t get fired today. I think in the end, Willie isn’t the right guy to lead this particular team, but he is so much less to blame then a lot of you act like.

Also, I really hope this means the Mets brass is going to make the right decision on Heilman.

    • Mex_17 says:

Yes, but today they decided to do NOTHING.

They didn’t fire Willie. They didn’t fire Omar.

All we hear is blah blah blah f-ing blah, the players need to play better, blah blah blah.

Ok, fine, then how come none of the players are gone???

For all the Willie and Omar cheerleaders, can we at least change the roster? Are we allowed to do that? Or do we need to stick with “our guys” who can’t get the job done?

If you want to keep Willie, then for the love of god, tell me who should be replaced??? NO ONE??? That’s what the Wilpons are doing.

Status quo indefinitely. What a thrilling team to watch.

      • therealsince86 says:

It’s not that easy just to get rid of players. Who do you get rid of and who takes their place. Especially if you are wanting to win,

        • metsforever says:

Winning isn’t happening this year. Restructuring must be considered.

        • Mex_17 says:

Good. So you want to do nothing. That is your solution.

          The Wilpons should hire you.

        • therealsince86 says:

No there are things that can be done. I would replace the manager and hitting coach. Demote Heilman and Wise for Muniz and Kuntz. Keep the kid up and let him platoon in LF and at 1B.
However, rebuilding this team is just silly.
You have Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Santana, Maine, Church that’s a really good core. No need to blow everything up.

        • njmatt says:

I just think they should trade Delgado and Alou. Alou has some trade value to a contender when he’s healthy (big if) because he could help any contender. If you can’t trade Delgado separately you make whoever wants Alou take him.

Like I said, who couldn’t use a consistant 300 hitter and a guy in Delgado who is at least hitting for some power.

You get whatever you can for these two. Then let Angel play OF and let Evans play at first. Or you send Evans down and see if you can get some kind of stop-gap first basemen, someone who at least plays D (not Doug M though).

I just think Delgado reminds me of how Abreu was with the Phils, it was addition by subtraction, when Jimmy Rollins could finally become the leader of that team, they played much better and got over the hump.

  210. Crisera says:

First of all why the hell do we have Endy Chavez still. I mean he plays great defense but he has a .188 average entering todays game.

Also, instead of Damion Easley play, 40 year old Easley. Get rid of him we need a leader. Bring back Julio Franco as a ass. coach.

Or Jose Valentine, when he is healthy

  211. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Heilman looks like he went on a bender for a few days and is showing up to work hungover and PO’ed.

Didn’t Keith supposedly tell Strawberry that the best way to get out of a slump was to go out and get totally smashed? Does it work for pitchers too? I will spend my next paycheck to get this team completely wrecked if that works

  212. Plus its not like last fall when the pitching faultered. The mets are getting picked off, making errors, not advancing runners with productive outs.
in short they aren’t playing good baseball. It isn’t just a team slump

  213. 16oz says:

there is just no chance the mets win this game, none at all.

i cant believe willie didnt get canned.

clueless from the players to the front office.

    how’s that for a slogan.

  214. the Straw says:

No. The best way to get out a slump is to go out and fine a really fat, ugly chick, and bang her. Im not making it up. They are “Slump-busters”

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m for whatever will work. Maybe they all need to go out together on a bender and get arrested like a half dozen on that ‘86 team one night on the road….

    • Mex_17 says:

There are only so many female Phillie fans out there.

  215. Flushing_is_Burning says:

a 3 run lead may not sound so hard to come back from for other teams, but for the current mets, it’s insurmountable

  216. time to go quietly into the night

  217. darkstar73 says:

I think the last time I said this was 2 years ago, and since that point, heilman has always been too important a piece in the bullpen to do it, but now, that’s not the case. It’s kind of the perfect time to try Heilman out as a starter again. Pelfrey isn’t getting it done, so stretch out Heilman and see what he can do.

  218. soulsea says:

that was the funniest pinch hit I’ve ever seen. one swing, ay Es Homer Simpson. Me ha molestado!

  219. LouMonte says:

This game is over because whenver there is a rally somehow castillo finds a way to come up

  220. dr jones says:

This is so friggen frustrating… FRED AND JEFF— this is a mental thing.. A defeatist attitude that comes from last seasons collapse and compounded by the attitude of its manager…

You need to either get them all psychiatrists or change the manager… and bring in someone that believes and can inspire ballplayers… For the love of god….

    • therealsince86 says:

I agree with part of your post. It is mental and the attitude comes from the collapse. I don’t think it is made better or worse by Willie so in turn you need to try and put the accountalbility on the players by changing the coaching staff.

    • rM teM says:

      like?…

  221. playmaker3128 says:

Why can’t heilman be a good starter. He’s got really good stuff. As a starter he doesn’t have to worry about being to fine with his pitches. Something i think he does alot when he comes in as a reliever. He’ll still give up the occational HR, however i think we should give it a shot.

Why the hell does the ump now have a smaller zone again. Some of those pitches feliciano has thrown were very close. Evans last AB he was called out on 3 borderline pitches.

    • MudvilleNine says:

Umps have no respect for rookies

    • Mex_17 says:

I agree. Heilman is useless now as mop-up boy. And he sucks coming into jams.

There’s no harm in trying him as a starter.

      • metsforever says:

It’s time. If he can start, he would be a decent replacement for Pedro next season. They are woefully short of pitching with Santana, Maine and nothing coming down the line. I don’t think there are any pitchers to buy this year either.

        • The Glider says:

Heilman would be a great replacement for Pelfrey who sucks and should be placed in the bullpen.

  222. VelvetFoot says:

Ugh. Two walks and now Uggla.

  223. chew13 says:

They got outplayed by the woman singing God Bless America

  224. Crisera says:

she got more claps than reyes’ HR’s combined lol

  225. soulsea says:

    God bless!

  226. playmaker3128 says:

One thing no1 mentions about this team. how about the luck factor? You can say all you want, but sometimes in this game you need some luck, and it just hasn’t been there for us. Perfect examples, last home series, last game against washington delgado smokes a ball for a DP. In atlanta, first inning we smoked balls of glavine. Beltran has hit in tough luck all year. That last ball schneider hit was a perfect example. Of course its a small part of the problem, but it just seems things just haven’t gone our way, on top of all the problems we’ve had.

    • OrangeNBlueSince82 says:

It’s true they are experiencing some bad lucka and I keep trying to convince myself that by the law of averages they are due to play well eventually. But days keep coming and going and the team keeps tanking. Waiting for hot weather is an excuse. Waiting for them to all click is a lame excuse too because the Mets have been saying they are waiting for everyone to click at the same time for the past three years. How about playing some baseball, having some fun and showing that you’ve got a pair instead of playing like a bunch of wimps?

    • toomanyuniforms says:

      Great, we’re down to superstition. . . .

This isn’t “luck.” This is a bad team that is the perfect reflection of its vain, idiotic ownership.

    • dykstraw says:

omar should have signed luckier players then

      • zeekster says:

Jeff and Fred should know it

It was Dodger GM Branch RIckey said it

“Luck is the residue of design.”

Omar designed this team must not have good mojo.

        As for hard hit balls:

Wee Willie Keeler put it this way:

        “Hit ‘em where they ain’t.”

Then it doesn’t matter how hard you hit it.

  227. adam900 says:

    i hate this team.

  228. rM teM says:

right, let’s have rabbit’s foot night!

  229. playmaker3128 says:

This team could really use a huge come from behind walkoff type win, maybe something like that will get them going. What a terrible swing by castillo.

  230. metsforever says:

    Nice wave slappy

  231. GordonGekko says:

    Fire the Wilpons!

  232. soulsea says:

    nice swing castrato

  233. metsforever says:

    Matt Wise lives!

  234. Crisera says:

    Thats great luck two outs

  235. Jefferies 9 says:

    Here comes Bunty McMoley

  236. EliPorter says:

was that a swing? does anyone here believe there will be a comeback? THIS IS THE MARLINS!!! RICKY NOLASCO IS NOT CY YOUNG!

  237. miker94 says:

that was the worst swing i’ve ever seen in my life

  238. metsforever says:

    1,2,3

    Typical late innings.

Two more of those coming up.

    Put it in the books!

  239. miker94 says:

    typical, 6th inning on, 1-2-3

  240. Flushing_is_Burning says:

tell me when was the last time the mets won…. I can’t remembered anymore….

  241. oleosmirf says:

why does sny play the same 5 commercials over and over…

    • metsforever says:

No sponser wants to be associated with a bunch of losers.

    • Flushing_is_Burning says:

      losing advertisers

      • toomanyuniforms says:

Pretty soon, it will just be Giuseppe Franco commercials interrupted by 1-2-3 Met at-bats. . . .

        . . . . or, wait — we already have that, don’t we?

  242. rM teM says:

Santana tomorrow. 7 innings, 2 runs allowed, does
    not get a win.

  243. metsforever says:

    Nice work Rockies.

  244. metsfan119 says:

What do people expect, if the Wilpons insist on staying the same course, nothing is going to change. The Mets aren’t all of a sudden going to be like “ok, we’ve been crap for a year now, let’s pick it up.” I don’t know if firing Willie is the answer, but I do know keeping him as manager is a ticket to nowhere.

    • metsforever says:

You’re right of course. What is the definition of insanity? doing the same thing over and over and hoping that the results are different.

We all know it’s not just Willie. Omar has done a horrible job constructing the team, the Wilpons don’t get it and the players are indifferent, for the most part.

      Something has to change.

    • Mex_17 says:

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

If it is broke, don’t fix it.

  245. WrightsRight says:

    dreadful, dreadful, dreadful….all dreadful

  246. playmaker3128 says:

Look i can understand the lineup not producing. It happens, but i’d at least accept it if i thought we were putting our best lineup out there everyday. I know church is hurt, but in no way should castillo still be in the 2 hole! This whole charade has to end. Castillo was a good hitter over his career because he had some speed and could slap the ball all over. He is not that guy anymore. He is a rally killer at the top. He has killed like 5 comeback attempts over the last week alone. The experiment has to end. Castillo has some value in the 8 hole, and when we had him there earlier in the season it actually worked.

Castillo argulably shouldn’t even be on this team, let alone batting 2nd.

    • miker94 says:

      you couldn’t be more correct

    • therealsince86 says:

      Batting 2nd Castillo has hit .279 with a .369 OBP.\
Batting 8th Castillo has hit .189 with a .302 OBP.
Looks like it worked there huh?

    • MudvilleNine says:

Isnt our light hitting catcher suppose to be batting 8th? How good can this lineup really be if he has to bat 6th?

  247. miker94 says:

why can’t feliciano go more than one inning. i mean wise is horrible and is bound to really blow this thing wide open.

  248. EliPorter says:

    spare me

  249. WrightsRight says:

    …sigh….

i can’t even muster the energy to get pissed anymore.

I knew this game was a lost cause with Nook Laloosh starting tonight…

    • daga89 says:

“I’m not in the position to think or not think, they don’t pay me to think. They pay me play baseball..” thats a nother 0-2 for Delga-no clue .

By he way looks like the 08 rule is still in effect, down 3after 3 thats a loss as this team has no fight…..

The only thing left is the over under for hits in the 8th and 9th..I put the over/under as 2 hits….what say you???

  250. njmatt says:

**I originally posted this as a response, but I’m curious to see what anyone thinks. I don’t pretend to be a GM, but I really want Delgado off this team, I think he’s a horrible presence in the locker room and his attitude is not a good attitude for this team to have.

I just think they should trade Delgado and Alou. Alou has some trade value to a contender when he’s healthy (big if) because he could help any contender. If you can’t trade Delgado separately you make whoever wants Alou take him.

Like I said, who couldn’t use a consistant 300 hitter and a guy in Delgado who is at least hitting for some power?

    • Mex_17 says:

You are making the mistake of believing that anyone in the Mets front office cares.

    • oleosmirf says:

      trade castillo too

id rather see jose valentin play 2nd and keep Reyes in order.

      • njmatt says:

They will have to pay his ENTIRE salary over 4 yrs to trade him, with Delgado they’d probably have to pay the majority of it…Alou maybe they could get someone to pick up some of his.

I agree though, I’d rather see Jose Valentin because he is a leader and plays hard. I like Castillo to be honest, I always was a big fan of him before this year, I can remember being really happy when the Mets got him, amazing how things change.

But for real, my belief based on what I see and the quotes I hear, is that Delgado is a horrible influence in the clubhouse, is never accountable and when he’s hitting and the Mets are winning, it’s ok, what do you have to be accountable for? But when you’re in a slide like this, what kind of example are you setting when you act like it’s your team, but you never hold yourself accountable?

    • breadclock says:

No one will trade for Delgado. No NL team would want him in the field. And certainly, even as a DH, his demand would be laughable. Teams weren’t lining up for Frank Thomas (.277/26/95, .857 ops last year) for the league minimum. Mike Piazza retired because nobody wants a DH who’s a shadow of his former self. Same deal with Sosa, who could probably out-produce Delgado right this second, rust and all, but who the hell wants him? No one.

I could see a playoff caliber team taking a flier on Alou at the summer deadline or a later waiver line deal. For a month, having his bat on the bench could be enticing. Of course, it would have to be during one of the rare stretches where he’s healthy, which by itself makes it a long shot.

  251. EliPorter says:

    FUQUE THIS TEAM

  252. soulsea says:

Gary is ridiculing Matt Wise, I love it.

  253. rM teM says:

Can you sense the electricity in the crowd? Everyone knows the Mets are never out of it! They’re all clapping their hands and stomping their feet screaming LETS GO METS! LETS GO METS!

  254. metsfanatic says:

This is where Willie let’s the game get out ofcontrol. No one pitching behind Wise. 3 runs is tough enough for this team.

  255. GordonGekko says:

I wish the Mets roster was filled with characters from The Simpsons. I’d make Ralph Wiggum the manager.

  256. miker94 says:

yeah wise is great, let’s keep him up

  257. the_other_matt says:

have to fire willie tonight Stop the distractions. Get a new leader.

  258. njmatt says:

Do you guys think if they play like this for another month they’ll lower ticket prices?

  259. rM teM says:

Oh wait, it’s LET’S GO HOME! LET’S GO HOME!

  260. miker94 says:

truthfully, the mets will probably get swept by the fish and then willie will be fired, seriously, i bet it will happen

  261. Cheer says:

Where’s Big Pelf…..did they take him out ?

  262. adam11216 says:

can they please please PLEASE just do SOMETHING? i’m pretty sure running the same lineup out there everyday and not making any roster moves is not the answer.

    • washtiger says:

      Agreed.

Gotta do something. Start by releasing Delgado. Sit Castillo. Heilman and Pelfrey to NOLA.

  263. mrosey says:

the mets should have won this game. they should have atleast five runs and if Pelfrey hadn’t walked a guy and then hit Uggla the Marlins would be limited to three runs. Really really sad.

  264. NYMJman says:

if they stay at 3 runs tonight..

last 161 games they will have scored 3 runs or less in 59 of them (~37%)

  265. metsforever says:

The Mets have to stop denying their hair is bad and do something about it.

OOPs. Denying the team is bad. Giuseppe has gone to my head

      lol

they need to stop hiding their pride under a hat.. and admit they are bald.. and terrible.

  266. dr jones says:

yes leadoff for the B-Mets or better yet some poor sap in he NL east who still think he will come around

  268. playmaker3128 says:

Biggest problem with this team. They just press way to much. Especially when were down in games. Perfect example delgado’s last AB. 1st and 2nd 0 outs and he’s taking HR cuts. I mean its ok to do that, but maybe work the pitcher a little bit, get ahead in the count and then take a HR hack. Teams like the phillies (who take alot of pitches) are far more effective in scoring because they make things tough on the pitcher, and don’t give away easy outs.

  269. daga89 says:

delgaNO strikes out ….yup hes coming around…for crying out loud sit the dont give a flying…….. too cool for school….underachiever……hmm who did we trade him for…oh yeah Jacobs….how is his season going?

  270. metsfanatic says:

    Yeah Delgado! He’s the best.

  271. adam900 says:

Is it sad that I think this team will never turn it around?

  272. metsfansberealistic says:

I think we should all completely ignore the team until July 4th

then if they are still in it, tune back in

if they suck in June, you won’t miss anything

if they recover you’ll be happy

I think I’ll take my own advice starting right now

    where’s my remote….

  273. metsforever says:

Perfect last five innings for the fish. Embarrassing, that is if you are capable of embarrassment.

    These guys obviously are not.

  274. Jefferies 9 says:

I don’t understand why Schneider comes out to the song Cyclone ?

  275. metsfanatic says:

Was that bug the Mets next pitcher?

  276. EliPorter says:

the mets have won 1 game in which they were trailing past the 6th inning this year (against the nationals on 4/17 down 3-2 in the 8th). you guys might as well turn off your televisions

  277. Cheer says:

They should wheel out Alou and let him hit from a chair….!!

  278. EliPorter says:

    schneider didnt really hustle there

    • Jefferies 9 says:

      No Hustle – Check
      Lack of Heart – Check
      Mental Errors – Check

Welcome to your 2008 NY Mets

  279. daga89 says:

No fight in them..down 3 after 3 = another lifeless LOSS

  280. Flushing_is_Burning says:

can some one point me to the nearest pharmacy, I need to refill my Prozac

  281. playmaker3128 says:

6.5 games out if we don’t come back in this one. With 3 pretty tough teams ahead of us. Some said after the braves series it couldn’t get much worse. Well it seems it has.

  282. Cheer says:

    Maybe Delgado should hit ninth…..!!!

  283. VelvetFoot says:

What’s the payroll for the Marlins again?

  284. joon8 says:

Braves already won today & the Phillies are crushing the Rockies.

Overall a pretty deflating day in Metsland

  285. Cheer says:

    Maybe Delgado should’nt hit……………..!

  286. metsforever says:

Interesting to see the papers in the morning. I notice that the normally Willie loving media are starting to turn. Will Mike and the Dog continue the Willie love fest?

  287. WrightsRight says:

The key is to move forward…..and continue losing games….

  288. metsfanatic says:

    Marlins Payroll = Our “Ace”

  289. daga89 says:

slappy castillo, delgaNO lack of hustle passion or even care, is poisoning the team and then that leaves the rest of them pressing and trying to show both that they care and that they need to win it by themselves. Reyes plays the middle and like a bipolar ADD flips between the two modes….

Slappy and DelgaNO need to have a message sent to them and the team by sitting them and making them watch for a bit….Call it time to recoup of heal from injuries just SIT THEM. As the biggest veterans the other mets MISTAKENLY think they are the role models and they are just playing for a check

    • therealsince86 says:

It’s not Delgado or Castillo at this point. Castillo is doing what he does, he is a ROLE PLAYER. Delgado is just OLD. Pick on Reyes, Wright and Beltran. They are the ones hurting this team more than anyone else.

  290. rM teM says:

Willie after the game..” We’re a little flat, we just need to put a couple of good games together, bla bla bla…

  291. dr jones says:

    you hear that chant

  292. metsfanatic says:

    They are chanting “Fire Willie”

  293. metsforever says:

The remaining patrons are getting rowdy. Willie will need secret service pretty soon

  294. Cheer says:

Maybe we can trade Delgado to the Yankees for Joba, they could use a good first baseman……….!

  295. teufelshuffle86 says:

This team sucks. No heart. This whole “we just need to play better” line isn’t getting it done. I don’t think firing Willie is the answer but it’s probably the only thing they can do right now. Have they had a come from behind victory all year? Maybe they should fire the strength coach. This team can’t score runs after the 4th inning. All the talk all the hype, all the meetings, nothing seems to be working.

I think all the fans should ban together and walk out or just not show up tomorrow night.

  296. the Straw says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  297. breadclock says:

It’s like a funeral out there. I don’t even think Nick Evans wants to be at Shea right now.

    • MudvilleNine says:

Are you kidding? He’s 0 fer. He’s not trying, he’s not playing hard. He’s just out there picking up a paycheck.

  298. metsforever says:

    Omar = Isaiah (sp)

    Fred = Charles Dolan

    Jeff = Jim

I hope not, but it is looking pretty similar. Just throwing money doesn’t work.

    • I disagree. Omar got Johan, you can’t ask for anything else

      • metsforever says:

Money got Johan, but I’ll give Omar credit. Let’s see what he has left. some of the articles recently indicate that this may be something we all regret over the next seven years.

    • breadclock says:

When Omar and Willie get contract extensions, we’ll all be with you on that comparison.

    • Don Hahn says:

thats not fair, first of all Fred Wilpon is a gentleman, maybe to a fault, Omar took over a team in 2005, and 2 years later was very close to world series, the Mets were a mess before Omar, the only part I’ll agree with you is Jeff, he’s idiot, a rich kid who’s about to inherit the empire, has no idea what its like to look for a job, to be broke, just a spoiled kid, and I’ve heard this from good sources, Omar ’s biggest fault was the hiring Willie

  299. I’d trade delgado to an independent league for Jose Cansceco

  300. rM teM says:

3 more and we’re out of here

  301. Jefferies 9 says:

    He was WAYYYY safe …

  302. crazymetfan1994 says:

whos got the concussion church or willy?

  303. metsforever says:

That guy was safe at second, but the Mets are due for one of those calls.

  304. metsfanatic says:

You know even Manaya isn’t sure they have a Championship Caliber team. Caliber players but maybe not the team. He put this team together! Who should really get fired!

  305. rM teM says:

And I’m as tired of this stale Yogi commercial as I am Guessepi Franco

  306. daga89 says:

I would trade him to anyone for anything that would pick up his salary, including for the Phanatics scooter…

  307. daga89 says:

I need a stat monster, would love to know the batting avg of the team when trailing after 5 innings….

  308. metsfanatic says:

Security is getting ready to get Willie out of the park.

  309. daga89 says:

Whats the hold up, I think they just got a kidnaping threat for some mets…oh wait no need they are already MIA

  310. EliPorter says:

is willie going to get assassinated? why are there so many security guards ….

  311. the Straw says:

Phils scored 32 runs in the last two games. Mets have not scored 32 runs this whole week.

  312. soulsea says:

Hi I’m actor Troy McClure. You might remember me from such celebrity funerals as “Andre The Giant, We Hardly Knew Ye” and “Shemp Howard, Today We Mourn A Stooge”

  313. metsforever says:

    How bout them Rockies?

  314. daga89 says:

I love Willie as a person and im not sure as a manager but it is clear this team is not playing or listening to him… The passive Torre-ism isnt working I would love to see him go off on the players in the clubhouse and hell he can go off on the media and even the fans if it puts any fire in thise zombies

    • WrightsRight says:

I agree – I do like Willie a lot. He and his team are a bad couple that needs a divorce….kind of like me and this team. It’s an abusive relationship and I can’t tear myself away.

    • Mex_17 says:

He’s actually good about going off on the fans. Anything else, not so much.

    • MudvilleNine says:

      What makes it so clear?

  315. WrightsRight says:

I am so off on the endy bandwagon….pretty much an automatic out.

  316. Mex_17 says:

So trying to get rid of Willie didn’t work.

Can we all get behind the concept of getting rid of Delgado?

  317. metsforever says:

They are going down 15 in a row. Do the Wilpons even watch these games? Major league players just don’t quit like this

  318. daga89 says:

Yeah to the pirates..let him wallow there for a while since he doesnt give a flying f……

  319. EliPorter says:

the mets may lose this game, but theres a moral victory for all of us: metsarebest will never post on this blog again

im loving the conversation between cohen/burkhardt

  320. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Must
    End
    The
    Season

  321. rM teM says:

Well, this has been 3 hours well spent.

  322. crazymetfan1994 says:

i hear boos from the 2 met fans still there

  323. Maybe Willie is an evil genius who is showing us this baseball so we will apprieciate the team if the y start playing well

  324. MudvilleNine says:

I hope everyone enjoyed their venting tonight. Same time tomorrow?

  325. metsfanatic says:

The late 1970’s are back baby

  326. WrightsRight says:

never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity…personally i’d be happy to never see Nook Laloosh pitch for this team again though i know that will never happen….next stop: last place…

  327. I wonder if metsarebest is actually willie’s daughter

  328. adam900 says:

you guys need to stop watching when they are down by more then 3 in the 6th inning. save your time.

  329. rM teM says:

remember when our problem was Jose showing up the other team buy dancing and handshakes? What the hell happened?

  330. miker94 says:

5th inning, 2 men on and no outs, from that point on, 5th inning, 6th inning, 7th inning, 8th inning and 9th inning, 1-2-3, 15 straight outs with no one on base. yeah, they don’t have a problem, motivation is at an all time high.

  331. Mex_17 says:

After this loss, I find myself feeling the same way as Delgado. I don’t really care.

  332. teufelshuffle86 says:

I give up. This team obviously doesn’t care about winning, so why the hell should we?

  333. daga89 says:

    whew that was close……..lmao
Well at least its not too late so DelgaNO and Slappy Castillo can take Reyes out to party and celebrate his achievements so they continue thier mentoring of him lesson 55… kid theres always another game…. its not the wins its all about the money and looking like you care every now and then….

I do give Beltran credit in all of this, he looks like he still cares but is hitting hard balls right at the fielders

    • therealsince86 says:

I still don’t get why you think that Castillo is all about the money and no heart?

  334. metsfan119 says:

Hey Fred, instead of “being prepared to fire Willie” why don’t you go ahead and f#$king do it! Do everyone, including Willie, a favor. This team is going nowhere fast.

  335. I wish I didn’t care

  336. metsforever says:

It’s still early. Just need to put some games together. Trust my guys. Gotta get out there tomorrow.

Oh, that is from last year.

  337. daga89 says:

I agree its tough when the fans care more than the players and unfortunately our fight is showing up against them and there lack of it.

  338. metsfan119 says:

I’m actually starting to feel bad for Willie at this point. The Wilpons have to let him go. Why put him through this anymore?

  339. breadclock says:

It was another wildly positive cashflow day for the Mets. Nothing but smiles and high fives all around in the Wilpon compound. And fans, it’s not too late to buy your CitiField brick!

  340. almar1965 says:

I want to see Willie go.

But I am fully of the belief that Hojo must be fired. it is not coincidence that the Mets offensively have been an enigma since he became the full-time hitting coach. His hitting philosophy (if it is indeed his philosophy that he is imparting on the team) is absolutely atrocious. I have never seen a team collectively help the opposing pitcher by taking short ABs and not working the count.

Rick Down, whom was the only coach Willie was allowed to choose, was a much better hitting coach and it is no coincidence that Reyes was at his best under his tutelage.

Maybe they need to fire Hojo first, see how the team responds, then if that doesn’t take, fire Willie.

  341. It should be done tonight so the new manager can have santana starting the 1st game and get him off to a good start

  342. daga89 says:

Tell it like it is Daryl, please… tell them they look soft and have n fight.

  343. dominicanboy08 says:

I still care for my team, if you dont care about the mets you are not a true fan….yes watching this team is painful, but I will always care for my favorite team

  344. daga89 says:

Alsois it just me or is Reyes wearing his cap much lower…looking like hes hiding??

  345. The Glider says:

Get Pelfrey out of the starting rotation. Start stretching out Heilman and put him the starting rotation and Pelfrey in the bullpen, please.

  346. dr jones says:

Fred and Jeff Wilpon are responsible for this loss and everything going forward. As the knight in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade said “YOu chose poorly”

  347. daga89 says:

Im beggin you Darryl tell them they remind you of a team full of Kevin McReynolds

  348. crazymetfan1994 says:

yay willy time lets get ready to here the best

  349. Maineiac says:

Off topic: Does anyone hate Marty Noble? Because I have a feeling he has been sipping too much of the kool aid.

  350. daga89 says:

At this point I want to see either a good 7-3 streak or continue to go 2-8 or 4-12….anything but 1 up 2 down rhythm that seems to let all the mets and managment think they can turn it around…

AND FOR GODS SAKE SIT DELGAD-awful

  351. metsfanatic says:

I have been saying for months that Hojo should go. Reyes is not the same hitter since Hojo was hired.

  352. KinersKornerman says:

    Must
    Endure
    Terrible
    Seasons

  353. daga89 says:

In fact that may be the perfect Manager for this team some one who has less life than DelGad-awful or slappy castillo….Yup Kevin McReynolds for MANAGER….!!!!

    • metsfan119 says:

When Castillo and Delsht are MVP candidates, then we can put their names with McReynolds.

      • daga89 says:

Ah but the same dont give a F…. and same posion to the club….what he did to the 86 mets was a crime

        • metsfan119 says:

I never had a problem with him, he could hit and played very solid D. You don’t have to be a rah-rah guy to be effective, just look at Olerud. My problem with Delgado is he can’t hit AND he makes little league errors.

  354. crazymetfan1994 says:

why is reyes so bad on the feild

  355. Maineiac says:

    Makes
    Everyone
    Think
    Suicide

  356. daga89 says:

How about a rotating Manager strategy of the 86 met…..that way Keith wont be burdened and these lifeless corpses will get hit by some passion from different angles… Keith, Staw, Gary, Wally, Kevin Mitchell,Lenny and Ray Knight….no wait I want to start with Ray Knight…..let him get in DelgadNO and Slappy’s and Reyes face for a good intense conversation….hmmmm…I kinda like that….but every pre and post game needs to be televised live on SNY…..

  357. joon8 says:

    Manager
    Extremely
    Terrible &
    Stupid

    • metsfan119 says:

People should stop being angry with Willie, yes, he’s a bad manager, but it’s not like he’s going to resign with all the money he’s owed. Now my wrath goes to the Wilpons, who have handled this whole situation horribly.

  358. metsfan119 says:

I haven’t been this down on the Mets since the night of the Kazmir trade.

  359. mets19 says:

Hell bring back the 86 mets and let them play. I bet you theyd play better then this!

  360. joon8 says:

    Bring back the 69 Mets

  361. dr jones says:

wow,, I’m very very very very angry right now……. 6.5 back 3 under .500 and going south.

This is not good,, and there is no reason to have confidence in an organization that allows this to happen..

    • dr jones says:

      this is so stupid,,,

The organization let this city down today. The let there team down and are ruining the final summer at shea. This will go down as the biggest waste in the history of the Mets and Fred and Jeff allowed this to happen. Good way to close out Shea Morons.. With Boooos and Fire Willie chants.. Smart move…Brilliant

  362. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Mediocre
    Excuses,
    Talent and
    Skills

  363. daga89 says:

Well they cant be more fragile (even at 40) as Alou and Pedro

  364. EliPorter says:

the evans story is now old

    • breadclock says:

Maybe there’s some 17 year old playing for the Savannah Sand Gnats the Mets can call up. This isn’t about winning anymore. It’s about gimmicks to make the season go faster.

  365. daga89 says:

And think about this…which I thought I would NEVER SAY…. Carlos Beltran seems to care the most and play the hardest on the team…..OMG this is a sign of the apocalypse

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Maybe he should step up and be the “one definitive leader” that everyone says this team needs.

  366. KinersKornerman says:

    Minaya’s
    Elderly
    Team
    Sucks

  367. Mex_17 says:

I missed Willie’s post-game comments…Is everything still going according to plan?

    • daga89 says:

No Mex but I think he knows “his guys and we need to just put some things together”….

I would just love for him to say..”Guys I have no Fin idea what is wrong with these guys, give me abreak its like talking to a wal, they dont listen and I dont think they really care, Id boo too”

but he has too much class for that……but it would be funny

      • Mex_17 says:

It would be funnier if Willie said, “I defer all post-game questions to the genius who put this team together, Omar Minaya.”

  368. daga89 says:

And how about that Farm system Tony Bernazard, we need an outfielder and we bring up a AA infielder…..yup plenty of talent there….

  369. metsfan119 says:

Alou, Delgado, Pedro, Castillo, and El Duque can all be put on a spaceship and sent to Mars right now. If their names were never mentioned again with the Mets I could care less.

  370. drodro22 says:

even at this team’s best potential, they aren’t good enough to win the World Series…….so what do you do?

say forget this year, try and work a trade to get X-Man back, at the end of the year obviously delgado is gone….you do NOT re-sign pedro, unless he wants to be in the bullpen…..El Duque is gone….Alou is gone…..you move beltran to hit behind jose…..and then u spend the money you unloaded by getting mark texeira……make that your #1 priority……

    • metsfan119 says:

I don’t know why, but for some reason I could see signing Tex as a disaster

      • drodro22 says:

i could see that, but other than him, i would only worry about signing a solid #2 starter…..

  371. Cheer says:

Look at the bright side, we don’t have to wait until September to be disappointed…………………!

  372. daga89 says:

    Medicore
    Effort
    Till
    September

Than fold like a cheap suit

  373. Sasseroni says:

    wow, another loss, total shocker.

Get used to them until they clean house……
