Yesterday, Ryan Church explained to reporters that, while he can swing the bat and hit, he has a hard time running and playing the field because he can easily become dizzy ever since suffering a concussion in a collision at second base last week.
“It’s not the headaches,” he explained, “It’s the dizziness.”
Church will be examined by a neurologist today in New York.
He is batting .309 with nine HR and 32 RBI for the Mets.
…i hate to think of this guy going on the disabled list, especially right now…but, maybe that is what needs to happen…
…in turn, the Mets can get Endy Chavez some playing time, in hopes that he can get his act together, because endy has been totally lost at the plate this year…

Endy is not the player he was in 2006. I think we have to come to that conclusion. He is still an excellent outfielder but as a hitter he looks completely lost.
He probably needs to go on the dl. Really he probably shouldn’t have been traveling with the team. I’m sure compressurized air cabins aren’t going to do him any favors.
Endy Chavez for Ryan Church? Not a good trade-off for the Mets. Church and Wright are the only ones hitting — and Wright has been wildly inconsistent, while Ryan has cooled off.
The lineup can’t afford to get any worse. We are already carrying a ton of dead weight.
Another example of the Mets not putting guys on the DL- and playing a man short. Then again, which of Omar’s cronies on AAA would you call up?
if he gets DL’d, then Omar $hit the bed again. remember at the beginning of the season when we laughed at the philthies for making a similar mistake with rollins?
this post makes no sense, how is Omar to have known he would on an attempt to break up a double play make a terrible slide and get his noggin crushed.
Get well Church, it’s not worth risking your health longterm for this bunch of losers.
You can’t blame Omar for Church not being DL’d. Concussions are a weird animal, and at the outset it seemed like he was going to be out only a 1 or 2 days. But obviously the trip to Colorado did something to him. Only problem is that they can’t retroactive his DL stint since he was been pinch hitting.
Does this team not have any team doctors, or does baseball simply not care about concussions because they haven’t seen a superstar lose his career to head injuries. The NHL has lost plenty of players to concussions and now takes them very seriously. NHL players suffering from post-concussion syndrome are not even allowed to get on a stationary bike until they are symptom-free. According to concussion specialists who have helped the league make their policies, any sort of physical activity can worsen or prolong the condition. So I ask, how in the world is this team letting Church participate in any baseball-related activities, let alone pinch-hit. It’s insanity. This guy has been your only consistent performer and we’re going to gamble with his health? Hopefully when Church meets with the Neurologist they’ll just DL him and put an end to all this nonsense, because as usual, the Mets’ own ineptitude is threatening to undo them.
I agree 100% with you. I don’t understand how the Mets can fool around with this.
That’s funny because it’s Omar who needs to see the neurologist.
at least when church is put on the DL, omar can point to an injury a six-year-old might not have seen coming next time he publicly stammers out excuses for this team.
When I noted last week that concussions can be serious and can linger, one of you basically told me to get lost. I was trying to give a realistic opinion of Church’s situation, but some of you feel it is better to sugar coat your posts. Sorry to say it looks like I was right.
By the way Endy sucks.
Often a concussion is not properly diagnosed, and also often symptoms don’t appear for 48 hours. Also, once you get one concussion, you often become susceptible to additional concussions in the future.
But a big WTF goes to Willie and Omar for letting him pinch hit the last few days.
WTF is wrong with them? They cannot back-date to DL if he continues to pinch hit.
They are so inept.
I agree with you. Burkhardt mentioned before the game that Church was unable to be interviewed because he was feeling so poorly. Why the he!! was he pinch-hitting with nobody on base down 7-3? Desperate times call for desperate measures, especially when your job may be on the line!
I think I must be going blind, ’cause I’d swear I just read something about Endy getting some playing time to get it together. That’s gotta be one of the craziest things I’ve ever read that pertains to the Mets.
The dude’s a scrub. A 74 career OPS+ score and you think he’s going to get it together? He’s been league average once!! Church going on the DL to get Endy playing time is like using dental floss to climb Mt Everest and wondering why you’re not getting anywhere.
It’s not 2006 anymore. Cut his *** and bring in someone that hits above their weight.
