Notes: Church Home, Delgado Out
By Matthew Cerrone - May 28, 2008 5:57 pm

Once again, Ryan Church will remain home getting rest tonight, while not being placed on the disabled list.

Minaya told reporters that Church wanted to come to the ball park today, but the team and doctors advised that he stay home and get rest.

According to Minaya, Church could be ready to play this weekend against the Dodgers.

By the way, the Mets will use the same lineup tonight as they used last night, meaning Carlos Delgado will get another night off to ‘clear his head.’

It’s really not such a bad idea every now and then. He’s no Micah Owings, but he’s been a really good pinch hitter for Arizona

Well, maybe this is positive news. Or they just figure to make a move tomorrow.

Maybe guys with head injuries don’t have the best judgment. . . . Buddy — we like you, and we want you to get better. Sit it out. Playing through post-concussion syndrome doesn’t prove anythign to anybody.

I doubt they will do anything (further) to endanger his health. Hopefully, a few more days are all he needs. If not, I bet he is on the DL tomorrow.

Delgado reminds me a lot of George Foster with the Mets. A moody guy who is past his prime who I think would be best served elsewhere.

Why not? Willie brought Glavine in to pinch hit one game last year (after he depleted the bench).

wow….guess that means Delgado has officially become a part-time player. Thank god. And good for Willie. Hopefully this is one of those “shake-ups” they need.

By the way, has Delgado’s career at the plate with the Mets reminded anyone else of Robin Ventura? Very good first season, stabilizes the lineup, provides protection for the star player and helps the team to its best season in a while, then has a good postseason. Second season production goes WAY down, but its blamed on injuries and everyone keeps waiting for the production to go back up. Third season, the production gets even worse, and its obvious his time with the Mets is coming to an end.

I like this…..

Delgado clearly has not gotten his act together yet and this sends him a message that he is not untouchable.

I firmly believe he will be right back in there tomorrow, and hopefully he’ll be back with something to prove.

I don’t quite get all the Delgado hate on here…..to our knowledge, he hasn’t pissed and moaned about being pushed down to 7th in the order or even now, being given days off. He seems to go out of his way to help younger players on the bench, or make a trip over to the mound to try to get the pitcher back on track,,,,,,,,I’ve seem him described as a “clubhouse cancer” and I’m not quite sure where thats coming from. Hes clearly a lot less productive right now……so lets hope this little sit down helps him out a bit………if anyone thinks Easley…long term….even beats out the shell of his former self that Delgado has become is crazy.

Hope you guys all saw the NYT article on Church. Very scary. I hope the team is relying on medical professionals with his injury, rather than a football player-like baseball player (as much as we appreciate it, Ryan).

The Willie Meter has already hit it’s peak. It’s now moving back the other direction.

Good job, Willie.

I think it’s more like the fans have gone past Willie to Omar and the Wilpons with their frustration.

as long as willie tries something different and realizes what he was doing before wasn’t working. I respect him more for considering a change as opposed to being so damn stubburn..
