postGame: Mets 7 Marlins 6
By Matthew Cerrone - May 28, 2008 10:58 pm

The Mets (25–26) defeated the Marlins (30–22) by the score of 7 to 6 at Shea Stadium tonight, thanks to a walk-off, two-run hit by Fernando Tatis in the 12th inning.

For a full recap, boxscore, stats, etc., go to SNY.tv.

  • It was only fitting that Tatis would walk to the plate with the theme to Superman playing from the stadium’s speakers.  He turned on a fastball, pulled it in to the left field corner, and David Wright and Carlos Beltran ran home to score two runs and give the Mets an outstanding, much-needed, come-from-behind win in the 12th inning.  Amazin.  Did you keep believing?  Or did you give up?  I hope you stayed tuned.  It was worth it.
  • Well, like I said last week, any time Luis Castillo hits a home run, you know it’s going to be a wild night.
  • Oliver Perez looked great, when he was not facing Cody Ross, who hit two home runs against Perez, accounting for four of the five runs he allowed.
  • Perez owes Carlos Beltran a steak dinner for making a fancy catch to end the fifth inning with two runners on base.  If that ball had gone by Beltran, I can only imagine how Perez would have reacted.
  • Fortunately, the Mets have Endy Chavez, who hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth, just like old times.  Seriously, Endy to the rescue, just like the good old days.  I hope this is a sign of things to come.  It just feels right, when Endy is making an impact.  Everything just falls in to place, it seems.
  • Unfortunately, with the bases loaded in the ninth, and two outs, David Wright popped out.  Later in the 11th, Luis Castillo ripped a line drive to center, with two runners on, but it was caught to end the inning.
  • I love that Johan Santana was wearing batting gloves in extra innings, knowing he could be called upon to be a pinch hitter.  I mean, he does have four doubles.
  • Cut a game ball in to quarters, and give it to Scott Schoeneweis, Aaron Heilman, Billy Wagner and Duaner Sanchez for pitching six innings of relief.  Especially Heilman, who pitched two scoreless innings in a one-run game, during which most fans probably kept their breath on hold.  Good for you, Aaron.
  • In fact, Mets pitchers struck out 16 batters during the 12-inning game.  Outstanding.
  • Speaking of Duaner, the boy has wheels.  He hustled down the line on a sac bunt in the 10th, and I had no idea he had it in him.  Good to know.  On the mound, he had a bit extra attitude going, and it was working for him, until Alfredo Amezaga homerd to right in the 11th inning on a hard, inside fastball, which Amezaga swung through on the previous pitch.  Sometimes, the batter just wins out.
  • This was a game that the Mets could not afford to lose, given the state of the team, who they were playing and how they battled back to tie it up in the ninth, being able to come back and win it was huge.  Huge.  There has been a significant difference in the life, energy, attitude and performance from this team during the last two games.  What’s more, I have been on the edge of my seat, smiling, clapping and having fun, and I hope you are as well.
  • In the end, I hope the Mets are starting to believe in themselves, because that’s what has been missing.
  • Jay Horwitz, keep that orange jacket on, buddy.  Sleep in it if you have to, just don’t take it off.

The Mets take on the Dodgers in the first game of a four-game series at Shea Stadium tomorrow, with Claudio Vargas facing Brad Penny, starting at 7:10 pm.

    BEST WIN OF THE YEAR

    • mikey_FF says:

Beautiful game tonight … just beautiful. Keep it up Mets!

…but hey … where was Delgado in that pile up? I didn’t see him. Maybe he got bored.

      • paganchurch says:

Del-who?? What now?? I know not what you are talking about. Willie, ride the wave please. Wins are good.

    • JeffinBoston says:

Get ready folks, I think I hear the sleeping giant starting to rumble. The heart has always been there, sometimes we just need a win to get it out. Lets enjoy this one, build on it and beat the pants off of Joe Torre and the bums from the left coast. The Summer of Shea is officially underway. Lets Go Mets!

      • nomoredelgado says:

        woooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooooo

      • NadyFan says:

Great win! Just what the doctor ordered.

Does anyone out there really, really think it’s just coincidence that the Mets win two, emotional, inspired games with Delgado out of the line-up?

Think about this……………………………That could very easily have been Delgado batting in that spot instead of Tatis!
What do you think the outcome would have been? Pop up to the second basement?

hey, I know it’s time for celebrating but I really fear that when Delgado goes back in the line-up (probably tomorrow) the winning streak will end at two games.

    • fivepointspro says:

Your right on, why do i feel that this win felt like 2006?

I never gave up. I told my brother who was at the game not to give up. The game is not over until its over! But what a performance by our bullpen. WOW was i shocked.

It was great to see Aron, and the DIRTY battle the fish.

What a game…. I still feel they should trade Ollie…

    • magic00700magic says:

For those guys panning Delgado and calling him Jobu, and replacing him with Tatis at first base.

      (i) Tatis does NOT play first base.

(ii) If this was a nine inning game, Tatis would not have had a hit in the game.

(iii) have your watched Tatis swings? Sure he is a hungry players, but he has a severe uppercut. In the long run, that does not bode well for success.

(iv) Delgado even with his slowed bat it a more fearsome hitter, and will probably be more selective.

      • yubbajr says:

I know to most it makes sense to sit Delgado vs lefties – but looking at his splits – I think the most glaring one is day vs night.
        Day – 6hr 12rbi .341obp .568slg .270ba
        Night – 2hr 13rbi .268obp .262!!! slg .178 ba

Anyone think in his old age Delgado may simply be having trouble seeing the ball at night?

  2. GravediggerHebner says:

Gotta go up in the attic and find my old ABBA album now.

  3. gipper82475 says:

    Wooooo Hoooooooooo!

Give Tatis a 1B glove and send Delgado to Vieques!

  4. rivertech says:

    LETS GO WILIE……CLAP, CLAP, CLAP…CLAP CLAP……

    • paganchurch says:

If Williw plays Delgado the next game, and the Mets lose, I think I’m gonna puke. Or rip out my own eyeballs. Either way . . .

      • novanoto says:

I was thinking the same thing at first, but then I also realized, if he does play delgado, and he kills rallies, doesnt
get to balls, etc, then it may, just may put more pressure on omar and the fo to move the wheels to get rid of him…

        • paganchurch says:

Oooh. Diaboloical you are. I’m torn now. . . . . .Eh, I’m over it. Cut Delgado now.

        • NadyFan says:

          Great point!

I really don’t want to root against my Mets but if that’s what it takes to get Delgado out of here then it’s worth a few loses more.

It would be best for the team in the long run. One think I am 100% certain of, if Delgado stays till the end of the season the Mets WILL NOT make the playoffs. Simple as that.

      • NadyFan says:

Willie will play Delgado tomorrow and the Mets WILL lose. Get ready to rip your eyes out! Me too!

They would have lost tonight if Delgado was playing, I have absolutely no doubt about that.

        • metsrule77 says:

What happens if Delgado plays tonight and hits 2 hr’s and goes 2-3 with a walk but the Mets still lose, would it still be because Delgado played? Tatis was 0-4 with 2 strike outs before that at bat if Easley wins the game there no one would be saying Tatis should be taking Delgado’s place.

  5. bludev17 says:

I mentioned this in the other thread, so excited by this team, hopefully its a turning point.

hate to bring up a negative now, but i replayed the tatis play 5 times and the only player not to be found in the celebration? delgado

was he already in teh showers? can we just go ahead and cut him if he really wasnt out there?

    • mikey_FF says:

Yeah man … I said the same thing above. You’re right … he was not there.

      • paganchurch says:

CUT HIM!!! Just get it over with please.

        • paganchurch says:

Not to reply to my own post or anything, but did anyone catch the post-game where Straw said that Delgado should be played the next game? Is he just reading Maz’s script, or what?

        • GravediggerHebner says:

Willie said when he benched him that it was just going to be for a day or two, I’ll be surprised if he’s not in the lineup Thursday. I’ll also be surprised if he starts against a lefty pitcher any time soon. I think we’ve reached the platoon stage of Delgado’s demise.

        • paganchurch says:

You’ll be surprised if he IS in the lineup on Thursday, or if he ISN’T in tthe line-up?? I was catching the drift of your post, and now I’m a little confused.

        • GravediggerHebner says:

If I add that Brad Penny, right hander, is starting tomorrow for the Dodgers, does that help?

        • paganchurch says:

Yup. Gotcha now. Even though I still don’t like it. I mean, platooning is a step in the right direction, but it’s only a step.

        • GravediggerHebner says:

What seems like a baby step to you or me is one giant leap for mankind to Willie Randolph.

      • metsrule77 says:

He pinch hit and was out of the game, how do you know willie didn’t tell him to go to the club house or go home to get a good nights rest because he would be playing tonight? Was the rest of the team there, I believe Perez and Wagner both left the dugout as well but your not bashing them.

    • NadyFan says:

We can’t win with him. eitherway.

If we play him he kills rallies.

If we bench him he will become a cancer on this team (if he’s not already).

He is not just going to sit there and take being benched, he has way too much pride.

It’s a no win situation. Only remedy is to cut him and eat the money but at least the Mets will have a shot of going to the playoffs. After all, shouldn’t that be Willie’s and Omar’s and the Wilpons main objective?

  6. jakeha23 says:

this one had a little ‘06 magic in it

  7. Nightlife says:

Amazin’ win. Now take 3 out of 4 from the Dodgers and I will have a reason to believe again.

    • Nightlife says:

Also, I think it would be a great sign to take the first 2 from the Dodgers because, good lord, when was the last time this team has won 4 straight games? Maybe last May?

      • therealsince86 says:

        Already had one this season.

        • Nightlife says:

Ah. My bad, I forgot about that streak against the Nats, then the Phils series. And it was 5 games, WOW. Seems so long ago. Alright, then lets go for 6 straight! :)

        • paganchurch says:

Selective memory. . . .That’s OK, I have it too.

        • Nightlife says:

I think the reason I forgot about it is because they went on to lose their next 5 of 7. :/

    • losmets5 says:

      Why just 3?

      • Nightlife says:

A sweep would be ideal, but that is tough in a 4 game series. 3 out of 4 would be just fine and put the team above .500 again. They need to just focus on winning series and getting in a “nice little groove”.

  8. donwkim79 says:

THIS Is a TEAM… Everybody Support the METS… I mean Every Player on the METS>>>…. LETS GO METS>>> Awesome Comeback… Showed tenacity, heart, and fight… Awesome Pitching by the Bullpen… Timely hitting by Chavez and Tatis… Biggest Win of the YEAR.. A TOTAL Team Victory>>>

    • paganchurch says:

Yes!! Rah rah. I agree!! Rah rah. Now cut Delgado. Rah rah. Before it’s too late.

  9. donwkim79 says:

Delgado Needs our Support Also… This Guy has been a GREAT Player in his PRIME>.. He’s little bit off but let’s get behind Delgado and have some respect for a guy who has over 400 HRS for his career… LETS GO MET FANS support YOUR NY METS>>>>>

    • gipper82475 says:

Um, no. Unless by get behind Delgado, you mean to push him out the door.

Supporting the team also means supporting making the right moves, trades, cuts, hires and fires.

That said, great win…now, can this group actually put a nice streak together? Let’s hope so. Let’s Go Mets!

    • JSC1968 says:

I could not agree more, the Mets win a dramatic game and all these people want to do is play with their Tivos, looking for Delgado.

Give it a rest guys. You won’t catch me slamming Heilman tonight, he was awesome. Tomorrow maybe, but tonight the bullpen did work.

      Let’s enjoy this one, eh?!!!

  10. PAPDOG67 says:

Great win!! I definitely did not see Delgado out there in the pile up….maybe he’s getting too old to even care anymore. The clock is ticking on Jobu. He may not be here much longer.

    • gomets6091 says:

haha Jobu…..any chance we can whisper in Cashman’s ear that we’ll sign him as our GM after the season, then convince him to trade Joba for Jobu?

  11. Danny says:

    Magical game.

  12. RespectDaBestRM says:

I think willie managed one of his best games of the year.

btw, Scott Schoenweis has been unbelievable this year!!!

    • nomoredelgado says:

yes he has been. and we need to point these things out if we also point out what’s been missing.

  13. Metsnumba57 says:

Wow, what a nice win by the Mets. They came back and never gave up. This is the mets that we are used to seeing. Lets go Mets

  14. TheIcon says:

If Delgado is going to act like that, the Mets clearly need to do something about it. Don’t let Delgado become a cancer on this team. Not at this point. Not after a win like tonight.

    • Constnza81V2.0 says:

He respects the game. A game winning hit by a career journey-man who may be getting his last real chance in the show isn’t cause for a pigpile man. I mean really. What would Clemente do?

Seriously, I wasn’t looking for Delgado to be out there or not, but if this is true, then Willie needs to keep a stand, and keep Carlos riding the pine. It’s not like the bench players aren’t stepping up. I would LOVE to hear the WIlpons and Omar defends firing Willie because he wouldn’t play Carlos Delgado.

      • TheIcon says:

So you’re saying that win doesn’t warrant a wild celebration? Especially with the way this team has been playing? Come on. Be real here.

You have to be out there celebrating with your team. Not pouting because he realizes this team can win without him. I’ve been as big a defender of a Delgado than any one, but what he did tonight was wrong. I understood where he stood on the curtain call, but be out there and support your teammates.

    • NadyFan says:

He already is a cancer Icon. Do you think it’s just a coincidence the Mets won the last two games without delgado in the line-up?

These last two wins they played with emotion, fire, urgency and inspired baseball. Coincidence again?

Hey, lets enjoy this great, magical win and hope that the Delgado situation will resolve itself. These things usually do during a long baseball season.

      • metsrule77 says:

is it coincidence that the Mets are now 12-5 against left handed starters with or without Delgado in the lineup? Maybe it had nothing to do with Delgado playing or not playing, the Mets can hit left handed pitching. They are 13-21 against right handers. So if they lose tonight its not because Delgado was in the game its the rest of the team struggles against right handed starters! Tatis is not hitting 25+ hr’s and driving in 80 RBI’s, hes a journeyman bench player not an everyday player, the mets need Delgado to pick it up to win this year, Tatis is not good enough to carry this team when Wright and Beltran struggle!!

  15. Gina says:

whatever. if ruben gotay was still on the team he would have hit a homer in the 9th.

  16. toomanyuniforms says:

Compare the Tatis story (the brink of baseball oblivion) with the Delgado story (playing for 8 figures without a hint of urgency, resigned to decline, commiserating with Peter Gammons about how “decent” each of them is, etc.) Hunger wins ballgames.

  17. RespectDaBestRM says:

The only guy not celebrating on the field was delgado!!!

  18. bigdan says:

im pretty sure when wright came up in the 9th there were only runners on 1st and 2nd.

  19. DMAT89 says:

I think Evans will be on the bench tomorrow with Easily and Tatis on the corners. Though, I dont think its smart to bench Evans, his confidence will be even more down the toilet then it is now.

    • therealsince86 says:

I am pretty sure at this point that you can bring up Valentin or Val for Evans. Any more 0 fer nights can’t be good.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Wait, you mean a guy with two months at AA can’t handle big league pitching? Get out of here! So much for prong one of the Metsblog comments’ section Mets revitalization master plan. . . .

I liked the idea of bringing him up, but counting on him to do squat is a bit much. It was a nice experiment, but it’s time to send him back down with a taste of the Show, and a nice debut to hold onto until he earns his way back next year in ST.

  20. crclark79 says:

Shoenweis has been absolutely lights out………………. It was nice to actually feel excitement during a Mets game. Gotta keep this going!! It was great to watch Tatis in the post game interview………he was absolutely drunk with joy. LETS GO METS

  21. therealsince86 says:

Don’t know about Delgado, if he was not out there then he needs to be released.
You have to mark this game down in the history books. Why?
Castillo, Endy and Amegeza hit homeruns not only on the same night but in the same game. These guys may not hit another homerun all season.

    • gipper82475 says:

      LOL. Well said.

    • mikey_FF says:

I’m 99.9% sure he was not out there. I looked at the replay a few times and lots of other people are saying the same thing. He must have gotten bored.

It’s pretty clear what the biggest problem on this team has been.

  22. metsfan57 says:

You gotta love Fernando Tatis’ energy and excitment out there, especially at the end. Keep it up guys!

  23. GordonGekko says:

Settle down guys, it’s just one game.
    Consider this…
    1. We just won at Shea against the lowest payroll in baseball.
    2. We should have won in 9 innings.
    3. We’re still 4.5 games behind Florida heading into June.
    4. We’re also trailing the Braves & Phillies.
    5. What’s that? Pedro is coming back?
    6. Delgado is getting bench time?
    7. Maybe we can still win the East…
    8. …and the League
    9. If that’s true then we can win the World Series
    10. OMG we ARE gonna win it all…WOOHOO!!!

    • rusty shackleford says:

      piss off!

      • GordonGekko says:

        bravo my friend

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Wow, what a badass you are, Gekko. We’re inclined to sell the stock just to burn your ass!!!

        • mookie says:

          here, here!

        • toomanyuniforms says:

          Sorry, the exact line is:

“I could break you, mate, in two pieces over my knees. You know it, I know it. I could buy you six times over. I could dump the stock just to burn your arse. Let’s go Mets! Cut Delgado.”

        • GordonGekko says:

Well in my book you either do things right or you get eliminated

        • toomanyuniforms says:

You’re a two bit pirate and a greenmailer. Nothing more… Gekko! Not only will you sell your mother to make a deal, you’d send her C.O.D.

        • GordonGekko says:

          I don’t like losses, sport.
Nothing ruins my day more than losses.
Now you do good…you get perks…lots & lots of perks.
          Willie’s getting a hooker tonight

        • toomanyuniforms says:

          Or, more apt:

“I don’t like losses, sport. Nothing ruins my day more than losses. Now you do good, you get perks, lots and lots of perks.”

“Give me guys that are poor, smart, hungry – and no feelings. You win a few, you lose a few, but you keep on fighting.”

          Translation (loose): play Tatis.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

          Wow. Now I’m scared.

        • GordonGekko says:

So the falcon’s heard the falconer.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Where was this before the game, Gordon???

“Blow ‘em away, Ollie. Rip their f***ing throats out. Stuff ‘em in your garbage compactor.”

        • GordonGekko says:

Why didn’t I think of that one? I feel like a fraud. I guess I’m just Bud Fox. As much as I wanted to be Gordon Gekko, I’ll always be Bud Fox.

    • CLYONS says:

Why did i feel extremely confident that the Mets were not going to lose this game? Even when they fell behind the second time i had a strong feeling of confidence that we were going to win no matter what :o

  25. donwkim79 says:

How about OUR GUY Endy Chavez>>> Is this guy a PRIME TIME MONEY PLAYER OR WHAT… Endy will live in MET immortality for the catch he made in 06 NLCS and the KID just has Great HEART… YOU can see it… He’s not the greatest hitter in the world but the KID really comes through Big Time when it counts the MOST>.. With his Bat and Defensive Ability in ENDY WE TRUST>>>>

  26. UncleMuscles says:

    Hypocrites

  27. Philnym31 says:

Let’s Go Mets! Great job tonight!

  28. DMAT89 says:

it bothers me and i believe you said

  29. rhettoric says:

What an ending! I don’t know if I’m more enraged at the fact that they got into such a bind or thrilled at how they got out of it. I think it’s mostly the second.

In the grand scheme of things this win doesn’t mean any more than any other, but psychologically this team really needed it since they’ve had such a hard time coming back from behind, and their constant issues of self-doubt and subpar performance. Good on them, and us. Lets Go Mets!

    • ToastyJoe says:

“In the grand scheme of things this win doesn’t mean any more than any other”

yes it does – they gained a full game on the team in first. Means more than other wins.

      • rhettoric says:

by that I meant that if we had, for example, won another game from the nats a few weeks ago and lost this one we’d have the same record. Statistically speaking, every game is equally important.

Psychologically and emotionally however, this was a huge win!

        • paganchurch says:

As a nerd, your first comments makes sense. However, as a sports fan, your second makes much, much more sense.

        • Don Hahn says:

lets get real, we’re all baseball nerds on this site, at least Met nerds

  30. ToastyJoe says:

Spectacular win. Everyone deserves a pat on the back except for Ollie. To me, the game can be summarized by Duaner Sanchez gettingup after being knocked down, laying down a perfect bunt, and absolutely BUSTING IT down the line to first.

Love to see that. Love it.

    • Don Hahn says:

Oliver Perez needs a much shorter leash, what is scary is how good he can look, one inning, and completely lost the next

  31. losmets5 says:

This game should be a Mets Classic

  32. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

    TATIS-ED!!!

    (I don’t get it)

    • ToastyJoe says:

      is that anything like “rickrolled”?

      • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Ha, I have no idea. I can only assume that they didn’t have anything ready for a Tatis walkoff hit (hey, could you blame ‘em?) and so some guy just typed the first thing that came to his head.

        • NadyFan says:

Come on guys, use your imagfination a little.

They are using a play on words on the commonly used term

He Tatooed it! To tatoo something means to really hit it hard, crush it. Hense the play on words ………

          Tatis-Ed!!

    • GravediggerHebner says:

      John Sterling writing your stuff?

  33. mookie says:

Man I hope they beat the hell out of the dodgers. I just want some consistency so we can make some noise. Great win and for the first time I saw some raw excited emotion.

  34. EliPorter says:

what a win… it remains to be seen how the mets will finish the 2008 season, but i think mets fans will remember this game for a while. its in the pantheon of great mets regular season games

  35. DMAT89 says:

anyone remember around july/august last season. “The game is getting boring to us” -Carlos Delgado

Whose bullpen pitched tonight??? It sure wasn’t ours . . . .Or was it?

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Good point. Except for the Ahem-aziga cheapshot, they looked lights out.

Marlins could stick around, though, because they’ve got some serious arms in their ‘pen, too. Lindstrom and Gregg 8-9 would be tough in the postseason. Too bad they don’t really have anyone to get to them. . . .

WOW This team looked like they had FIGHT!!!

Willie did a GREAT job tonight – give credit where it is due. He managed the bench/bullpen beautifully.

That said, the bullpen was insane. It was nice to FINALLY see what it looks like when all the guys bring what they can on the same night. Except for Sanchez mistake they were freakin perfect

Delgado – GOODBYE Yeah, he had a good at bat drawing a walk. So let him do that for the rest of the season. When everyones healthy maybe he can platoon with Tatis, if Delgado can hit.

    Otherwise, start Tatis at 1B

Big win tonight AND they looked really good doing it. Finally.

        Eh . . . reasonable.

Well, keep in mind, Tater is in for Church. As between Delgado and Easley, is there really much of a difference these days?

        • Koko says:

Well Tatis can be in for Alou once Church comes back.

And I’m cool with a platoon. I really don’t trust Easily playing a lot of games at 1B. . . .Now if they got a ‘real’ 1B I may change my mind about a platoon, but until then let it be.

Let’s not break any wrists clapping too hard, OK?
Some of you really need to act like you’re fans of a team that’s actually won a series against a bad team before, or people will think you’re bush league.

This Marlins team is a joke.

There’s a lot more work to be done, and I’m still not convinced that this team can do it.

    • NegativeFan says:

      Hear hear!

Some of you puppets are so starved for any scrap of good news that you’re acting like the Mets made the playoffs.

You’re only setting yourselves up. Don’t say you weren’t warned!

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

        Thank you.
Nobody wants this team to win more than I do.
But I’ve sat through enough bad baseball games this season already to know that if there is going to be a time to celebrate, it’s not tonight.

For now, just be glad the Mets managed to win one and call it a night. There’s still a lot more work to be done.

    • gomets6091 says:

you mean this first place Marlins team?

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Yeah, the first place Marlins team that will finish in 4th place at the end of the year. You should know better by now.

        • gomets6091 says:

I’m sure they will be in 4th by the end of the year, but that doesn’t mean they’re not playing really good baseball so far this year, and it certainly doesn’t make them a bad team or “a joke” as you phrased it. And when the Mets lose series to the Reds and Nationals, I will get excited when they win a series against the Marlins, whether they are great or awful or somewhere in between.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I’m not saying don’t get excited. These last two wins are something to build on. I don’t care if they split with the Dodgers, as long as they play good baseball. They’re getting something going here. Willie has done a good job too. I’m not gonna complain about him without giving credit where credit is due. But again, they’re getting something going here. I just want to see it continue. Nobody cheers them on more than I do during the games.

    • KinersKornerman says:

      Let yourself go, AMS.
A come from behind win in extra innings is cathartic whether you root for a good team of a bad team. Enjoy this win. worry abuot tomorrow around 7pm.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

I’m enjoying the win too. Believe me, I am. But this Marlins team is not for real, and I just hope nobody is going to fool themselves into believing that this is gonna get it done all year.

To prove I’m not a total party pooper, Willie has managed two good games now. This is what I’m talking about when I say win WITH him. But let’s not get too crazy here. Take the win and be happy. Move on to the Dodgers. Don’t get carried away.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Agreed. Reality also tells us that there is probably a reason why Tatis is a AAA All-star. He did good tonite, but he might also be this year’s Chip Ambres.

Sure the team still has the same problems we had three days ago, but this is a good win.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

This is a good win. It’s a very good win because a week ago this would have been a game that they lost. I don’t think I’m out of line for saying that. But right now they have to take this one game at a time. This would have been a REALLY bad loss, and they didn’t let that happen. This win is one to grow on.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Look — I’m as skeptical as the next guy, but if you can’t see that this was not “just another win”, I feel for you. Might the Mets revert to old habits? Sure. But tonight, they gave us the first enjoyable “Amazin’” comeback in a long, long, long time.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

OK, I’m not disagreeing with you. Just keep things in perspective, that’s all. I’m not one of the bad guys here. They played today, they won today. That’s all they could do today. Enjoy it. Just keep in mind that there is a whole lot of work to be done, and this team is not exactly built to win it all (my opinion). You take the win, but you keep in mind that there’s plenty of room for improvement. That’s all.

      • PhillyMet says:

I’ll add to that…..a couple of more longs to long, long, long time!

  51. Metsology says:

Mets were 0-for in come from behind wins until today. But tonight, they did it twice. The corner is near.

  52. metsreyes7 says:

Guys we all know that a producing Delgado is a important part of the Mets. To just give up on the guy is not the right thing to do. Yes, he hasn’t hit well and hes probably past his prime but we still need him to produce. The Mets have looked great the past two nights but we should think that they could be even better with him in the line up. It’s May give him till at least the ASB to show us something. LETS GO METS.

  53. playmaker3128 says:

Whats also great is reyes is starting to get hot again. By the way again i’ll say it, compared to hanley (who’s been getting alot of praise this season). Reyes has similar stats.

A couple other good things. Great great bullpen work. Alot of us got on scho last year, but he’s been great. Heilman and wagner were filthy. And thats the best i’ve seen duaner since 2006 (despite one pitch. Last couple days he’s been around 90 consistanly with his fastball and even touching 92,93. the most encouraging thing. Sanchez seemed to be letting it go out there. Earlier in the year the coaches said dirty was hesitant to let it go because he didn’t know how his shoulder would respond. Well he was letting it go tonight.

Also beltran has been smoking the ball the whole year, just right at people. Finally got some luck that last inning cause if wright aint running thats probably caught.

I like Tatis bat, he’s got some pop. If we can eventually get church healthy (a big if right now) i like our lineup. Now lets win at least 3 of 4 from LA. Then we get pedro back next week.

  54. I’m hitting ten this year. Watch out.

    • gomets6091 says:

did you get into Paulie’s stash before we kicked him out the door?

    • KinersKornerman says:

Hey Slappy, I finished cleaning out Sammy Sosa’s locker. Did you receive that package of bats you asked for?

  55. anonymii says:

It actually felt like they were going to win this one no matter what Florida did. Didn’t panic after Ross’ second home run or even after Amezega’s. Great game.

  56. MetfanMD says:

If it aint broke, dont fix it. Willie needs to ride the hot bats. I think beltran hit the ball REALLY well today even though his stats wont show it. Keep it the way it is. Easely is hitting well too and playing a decent first base. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep delgado out of the lineup. Its amazing having so much life in the lineup, and the team seems so happy and energetic. Knowing everyone in the line up can hit, run, and play defense! If anything, I am fine with the idea of platooning, for now. The whole team hustled and played with heart today, which are two things I never see from Delgado. I still dont understand, nor will I ever, why Omar would bring a player to the Mets that spurned them in free agency to go to Florida, and then told everyone that Omar tried to lure him to NY using the latino angle. And last but not least, I cant wait for pedro to come back, if not for the pitching, but the trash talking he does from the dugout to the opposing team!

    • gomets019 says:

The Delgado trade was one of the strangest transactions I’ve ever seen. In case you forgot, Delgado didn’t just turn down the Met free agent offer, he took (slightly) less money to play in Florida-actually declaring that he’d have a better chance to win it all with the Marlins. He also personally insulted Omar and his staff. Omar refused to be denied and the Fish later shipped him to the Mets for middling prospects and incredibly even gave the Mets cash in the deal to take Delgado off their hands

      • The_Hook says:

Thank you gomets! I have been saying this since last year. Delgado does not like Omar, Tony B. or NYC. Dead on…

  59. PhillyMet says:

I confess that up until (and including) tonight, I really did not have any reason to believe that they would pull this game out. Fool me once, well, you know…

Let’s see them maintain some semblance of consistency…we all like to think that this was the REAL Mets tonight.

I hope to hell that this IS them, but how many games this year has the pen pitched like that? Two? three tops? Very few and far between…

I have some hope right now, but this team has a lot of work to do. I think deep down, we all see that.

But, it’s fun to feel excited for this team again…HUGE WIN!

  63. AzMetsFan says:

Question: I started watching in the 10th inning. How come the SNY crew was saying that the Mets have no one on the bench to pinch hit and thats why Santana was prepared to give it a go? Now I’m definitly no fan of Delgado, but wasn’t he technically on the bench? I figured he had his pinch hit K earlier in the game, but he wasn’t played at all?

    • KinersKornerman says:

Delgado pinch hit in the 9th for pitcher spot. Worked a walk. Got to 2nd on Reyes walk, then Willie sent in Maine to pinch-run. Maine was stranded when Wright popped up.

      • AzMetsFan says:

cool thanks, I guess I overlooked that

        • KinersKornerman says:

It was great game to watch. All the bench players were used (except Church was unavailable), and Santana was ready to hit.

18 players on the box score. Only guys who didn’t appear were Vargas, Pelf, Santana, Feliciano, Smith and Muniz (who was warming up in the 12th)

  66. bittergreen says:

When Heilman come on to pitch the 8th, I stopped believing. I’ve experienced to many situations where the Mets were in a game, only to have Heilman come in and let the game get out of reach. But kudos to Aaron for a great outing.

Super win for the Mets. Coming from behind in late innings (or any inninings) isn’t something we’ve seen from the Mets this year. And they did it twice in this game. It seems that in late innings the lineup has been ineffective at the plate. But they managed to put some men on base, even if they didn’t score those runs, and the bullpen kept the game in reach.

I love it when the Mets hammer Scott Olsen as well. Something about that little twerp that I just can’t stand.

  67. adam900 says:

Best game I have ever seen in my life at Shea. First of all Ollie pitched horrible, giving up 2 hrs to Cody Ross. I thought they had the game leading 2-0 early but I was wrong once again with this team. Reyes hit another home-run and looks like his power is getting back. The bullpen was great last night except for 1 hr in the 12th (which I misses cause I left in the top of the 12th.) That Endy game tying home-run was just amazing, you could almost feel Shea shaking from that Endy bomb. I left an inning to early but I saw it on tv right outside the diamond club. What an amazing game. The subway had a “lets go Mets” chant which was great to hear.
