Funny how Matt calls Jay a stand up guy. I have also met Jay numerous times and he has been nothing but rude and inappropriate.

it is funny how we all know Jay and he's never played a game. Quite an accomplishment for a front office guy not involved with players (ala gms and scouts)

Seriously, I don't think Beltrán batting leadoff is a bad idea, but you've got other guys that ought to be in front of him. How bad does this look (based on the current active non-injured roster)?

Endy won't clog up the bases for Reyes, who has RBI potential. Beltrán would not be sitting in the cleanup spot with no protection, and if he walks in the #3 spot that's actually good, especially if the #1 and/or #2 guys are on base. Castillo doesn't strike out much, so he's good protection for Wright (and all the guys in front of Castillo can run and stay out of DPs). Then you put your three worst hitters at the tail end from most-to-least productive.

It is funny though how every time Keith or Gary mentions that a guy hasn't hit a home run since 2002, he hits a home run, or things of that nature. I liked Keith's description of Gary and Howie Rose discussing how many games the Mets have played without a no-hitter (and of course, right afterwards, Pelfrey gives up a hit): "shooting the clown" :D

Honestly, someday when Jay's finished his career with the Mets, they need to put some kind of sign or something on the outfield fence with the retired numbers. He's been around forever and in many ways is the real "face" of the franchise.
