The Mets officially announced yesterday that Pedro Martinez will remain in New York, travel with the team and start for the Mets in San Francisco on Tuesday against the Giants.

Martinez talked with reporters prior to yesterday’s game, and said:

“We’re due to win. We owe something to the fans, to the people in New York. I hope we can all pull it off together…I think we’re due to do something great here, and I hope we do it soon. I hope all the adversity that we have to face is already gone.”

Martinez also told reporters that he hopes Willie Randolph remains the team’s manager, and that the two will end the season in an October parade through New York City.

Beautiful! That means his 2nd start should come on the 8th in San Diego. Glad I get to see Pedro instead of Vargas pitching.

  2. lunchbox21 says:

this is why I love Pedro Martinez…words of a Champion….LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • giuseppe franco_procede says:

I agree…He’s is the reason why this Mets team went from laughing stocks to a serious contending team (sans the latter half of the ‘07 season and the start of this season). Without him, we wouldn’t have the team that was one win from the ‘06 WS. I hope the Mets consider resigning him to a one year incentive laden deal when the season is done. Petey will always be a Met.

  3. dominicanboy08 says:

I love my countryman, he brings a winning attitude to the team…

pedro..comeback player of the year. going 14-6 with a 3.11 ERA in 22 starts

    • Nate W. says:

I’ll take it start by start with Pedro. I’ll be happy with one that doesnt end in injury, and then we’ll think about the next one.

In March I said I would be happy with 25 starts and he isnt coming anywhere close to that, so I guess its all a let down for me anyway…

    • olddad54 says:

9 wins would be more realistic; anything more would be gravy.

    • ReturnOfTheStache says:

hey fellow dominican :) Pedro is like the energizer bunny for the Mets

  4. Nate W. says:

mlb.com / mets.com took this opportunity to change Tuesday’s probably starter back to C. Vargas… brilliant!

I wouldnt be so sure about Pedro pitching in SD. Him pitching on normal rest has been the primary cause of injury the last three years. Look for the them to use 6 somehow to get through next week and Pedro to pitch again at home. Just a suspition on my part.

    • MetsFanInVegas says:

      Who would pitch then?

      • Nate W. says:

        Perez, Vargas, or Pelfrey…?

I have no idea, and its not likely the Mets will tell us anything in advance. And with 6 starters they could flip them around any which way.

        • MetsFanInVegas says:

I don’t know. I think Padres are sending out Wilfredo Ledemza Sunday. I don’t wanna see a Vargas/Ledezma matchup. I rather see Pelfrey (hopefully he would pitch good) over Vargas. I would be okay with Perez too.

        • MetsFanInVegas says:

Well Perez last pitched the 28th. I think he’s scheduled to go the Saturday night game. If he pitched Sunday then who would pitch for him Saturday? I’m all in favor of pushing back Johan from Friday to Saturday lol. That’s who I really wanted to see.

  5. MercuryMetsIn3008 says:

now when will they officially release that tonights game is rained out

    • Nate W. says:

…Pelfrey pitches game one tomorrow and then goes to the minors to make room for Jose Valenin?

  6. LIMetfan74 says:

They are going to wait the rain out as long as they can tonight. They def dont want to play a doubble header tomorrow then fly to the west coast. They will be shot if that happens.

  7. We’re gonna have a hard time being in a parade if Willie Randolph’s managing – Bill R. better be back in action this afternoon.

  8. backinbusiness says:

1 of 1 million weathermen here, the sun is out in riverdale. maybe it has passed through, or maybe there is another round. anyone in flushing?

I think they will get the game in today

  11. metsfan119 says:

More specifically YOU owe the fans Pedro

  12. KinersKornerman says:

Something about this hammy-grabber’s words sound too much like a politician talking.
My response is: Stop talking, start doing.

    Lineup:

    Reyes
    Chavez – RF
    Wright
    Beltran
    Delgado
    Easley – 2B
    Schneider
    Tatis – LF

  14. dominicanboy08 says:

now its sunny, wow this weather is crazy

  15. Dwright5kiddflushing says:

How much is the sky falling today Mets Nation?

  16. The only parade Willie Randolph is gonna be in is the local fire department parade before the carnival… Bill R. on the other hand, well lets just say they better start paving a few extra lanes down the Canyon of Heroes when he comes rollin thru this October

  17. When Payyy-Dro Returns . . .

Leadership should undoubtedly be brought to the Metropolitans. Pedro Martinez revived would be absolutely gigantic for this team and their pitching staff.

We’re hoping to see both—Pedro resurrected on the mound—and Pedro’s respectful guidance with players and coaches. I’m glad to know that we’re already halfway there.

Meet the Mets – Meet the Mets! Let’s Go!

    • TobeRinkler says:

Yes, I’m being far too AR for a Sat, but it’s “its” pitching staff, not “their”…

  18. Matt- I see the Confidence in Willie Randolph poll is a puny 41%…

I think you should have a Confidence in Bill R. poll to truly reflect who wears the pants in the Mets dugout

  19. Dwright5kiddflushing says:

You guys are starting to sound like the new generation of yankee fans. Calm down and relax and just enjoy watching a ball game. Oh yeah and support your team,. Booing isn’t a lubricant for success.

  20. Tiger One says:

Its good seeing some confidence and swagger come back to the Mets!

  21. ReturnOfTheStache says:

I feel that the best has yet to come for the Mets :)
