Looks like there were no adverse effects on the plane for Churchie.

I’m glad to see Church behind Beltran.

    • gipper82475 says:

There are two b’s in bums now?

      • Boooooo says:

actually there always were… you know, like numb?

        duh

        • gipper82475 says:

LOL Sorry. Wrong. Pick up a dictionary or check it out on an online dictionary.

        • gipper82475 says:

          Main Entry: bum
          Function: noun
          Etymology: probably short for bummer
          Date: 1864
1 a: one who sponges off others and avoids work b: one who performs a function poorly [called the umpire a bum] c: one whose time is devoted to a recreational activity [a beach bum] [ski bums]
          2: vagrant, itinerant drunkard
“on the bum”: with no settled residence or means of support

        • TobeRinkler says:

You guys don’t sound like chumbs–what’s up?

  9. irishchris87 says:

That lineup makes me smile. Castro was a good call by Willie. Schneider probably is happy, but I’ve got no problem giving him a rest after a rough flight (especially when a LHP is on the mound).

  10. adam900 says:

nice lineup tonight. LETS GO METS!

  11. gomets6091 says:

    versis?

  12. MetsFan4Decades says:

Fingers crossed for the ‘lights out’ Ollie tonight……

    • The Glider says:

He gotta keep the walks under control.

And, crap, the Phillies just beat the Reds 5-4 with Utley hitting a his 21st HR and made a couple excellent plays in the field – the second to end the game. Harry Callis was going crazy. F him.

      LET’S GO METS!

  13. The Glider says:

Wow. With the lefty Sanchez pitching tonight, Delgado is moved down to 7th with Schneider hitting behind him.

My how the mighty have fallen.

  14. kiteless says:

Why is delgado in the lineup against a lefty?

    • Nate W. says:

probably because he will sit against Zito tomorrow.

and probably because he publicly threatened to be a problem if he was platooned. Willie is back, Bill R. would put up with that ish.

  15. Nate W. says:

Jorge Sosa is currently pitching against the Zephers for the Astros AAA team. He was brought in to relieve down 7-1.

He’s not even good enough to be anything more than the Astros AAA mop up man, and he was in the Mets pen for 6 weeks. Ouch babe…

  16. EliPorter says:

and john smoltz blows his first save opportunity!!!!!!!

  17. metsfan119 says:

Smoltz blew his first save opportunity

  18. NYsports101 says:

I’m much happier with this lineup but I’d still like to see Castro batting at least ahead of Delgado. He kills lefties…

  19. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Let’s keep it goin’!!!

  20. Metdamage says:

Off topic: In a 5-5 game in the eight inning, Girardi brings in Farnsworth who promptly gives up a run. This Joba thing is going to get Cashman fired.

I still root for Carlos Gomez who still has no idea how to hit a breaking ball but the kid looks good in Minnesota.

  21. Boooooo says:

“I like it when he gets the uniform dirty,” Randolph said. “He’s uniform has been pretty clean for a while.”

Thats bill r bashing delcrapo… KEEP IT COMIN WILLIE!!!!

    He is a BUMB!!!!!

  22. Nate W. says:

The Phillies hit 3 more homers tonight to beat the Reds 5-3.

They left 8 on base, their starter failed to go 6, and they still won.

  23. donwkim79 says:

    I’m pumped Up Baby… Let’s Go Mets…

  24. donwkim79 says:

I predict a Carlos DelgaDo Bomb to the SF Bay… Let’s Go Big Papi Delgado….

  25. Metdamage says:

Braves tied it. 1st and 3rd one out

  26. I hope Bill R. made the flight out west, the dude has this team on a serious roll

  27. Nate W. says:

Hideko Okijima notched his 5th blown save of the season giving up a 4 run inning to cost the Sox another road game.

  28. adam11216 says:

reyes looked sleepy in that pregame interview…

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Get the boy some caffeine. Need him to keep his hitting streak and consecutive games on streak alive…..

    • metsfan119 says:

What do you expect, ESPN completely f#cked them with their 8PM start time last night

  29. adam11216 says:

holy crap – hamilton has 65 RBI!

  32. the Straw says:

Castro is going to be tested tonight. San Fran likes to run.

  33. jcervone7 says:

Anyone else watching this with the San Francisco announcers? These guys are putting me to sleep already.

    • the Straw says:

yes….another team of announcers that cant hold a candle to Gary, Ron, and Keith.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

No, thank God. One night of ESPN non ‘Gary, Keith, Ron’ announcers were enough for me. I’m one of the lucky ones in the SNY market.

    • miker94 says:

      yeah, these guys are horrible!

  34. jakeha23 says:

wierd camera angle tongiht…kind of like in the new washington park….tonight it is zoomed in much more than usual

  35. CitizenSnips says:

Anyone else watching with mlb.tv where it’s cut out occasionally for no reason? Might just be my router.

  36. Metdamage says:

Well, this is going to be an interesting game with each team pitching Oliver Perez.

  37. Kugaa says:

    Sanchez needs to help

  38. Boooooo says:

    LETS GO METS!!!!

  39. cohen1333 says:

expect perez to have issues tonight, k zone looks rough

  40. Boooooo says:

i guess that pitched was TOO MUCH of a strike, hey tatis?

  41. WrightsRight says:

great pitch, but you gotta swing at that

  42. EliPorter says:

    oh god its ollie time

  43. Boooooo says:

i hate when players strike out looking.. hey, i can do that!!!

  44. the Straw says:

HEY its a big ballpark and a weak lineup. If ollie cant do it tonight, he cant do it anywhere.

  45. adam11216 says:

winn leading off and bengie hitting cleanup. the giants lineup is atrocious.

  46. Boooooo says:

wow th egiants lineup is absolutely DISGUSTING!!! If perez walks these guys, he needs to be beat down.

  47. adam11216 says:

    he’s awful. i hate him.

  48. EliPorter says:

    i hate perez

  49. teufelshuffle86 says:

Everybody in the stands is wearing a sweatshirt and/or coat. That should bode well for Pedro’s hammy tomorrow night.

  50. MainStMets says:

good start, looks like ill be in bed early tonight, maybe 10pm EST starts wont be too bad this week lol

  51. Boooooo says:

oh god… i am really sick of perez..

can everyone see now why the PIRATES!!!!! could care less about trading him???

  52. WrightsRight says:

    Ollie=Einstein…

How many Nook Laloosh’s does this team have to have?

  53. mr.gee21 says:

    OH, *that* Perez. Sigh.

  54. InsaneMetsFan says:

    Here we go

  55. Ludacrispat says:

    ughhhh

  56. cohen1333 says:

no excuse for perez…he flew out yesterday before the mets game even started. GROSS

  57. Nate W. says:

Ollie will walk 5, give up two homers. …and win 6-4

  58. Pacman_Jones says:

Game Over. Get rid of Perez now.

    • EliPorter says:

games not over, but oliver will try his hardest to blow this game for the mets

  59. The Glider says:

In the words of Popeye: “Blow me . . . . . down.”

  60. Boooooo says:

the shine is definitely off this sht head

  61. miker94 says:

guess we are getting “this” ollie tonight, great!

  62. Ludacrispat says:

why tatis is batting ahead of castro is beyond me. i mean, just look at their numbers. makes no sense

  63. gomets6091 says:

what’s with the homerun horn? What is this, an NHL game?

  64. donwkim79 says:

Randy Winn looks like that Black Guy from Mad TV…

  65. InsaneMetsFan says:

    Philly already won boys

  66. jcervone7 says:

    He’ll settle in

  67. the Straw says:

Ollie and Pedro both flew out early yesterday. i was hoping together and that pedro would take him under his wing on the flight and coach him up and try to teach Ollie something. But I dont Ollie is able to pay even PEDRO any attention.

  68. Ludacrispat says:

    get darren oliver ready….oh wait

  69. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K. – so leaving bases loaded and 3 on in the top of the inning is looking large right now….

  70. Pacman_Jones says:

How a guy throw a 6 inning 2 ER gem in game 7 of the nlcs against a team featuring Pujols and Roland and then gives up lead off home runs two years later to teams such as the dodgers and the giants? EWWW

  71. donwkim79 says:

Yea I like this Move by Willie… Play Razor Ramon against Lefties… Hey Yo…

  72. Boooooo says:

perez is a basetcase piece of crap.. he won 1 last yar because of the team, not him.. he really sucks. hes a th starter in the AL

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDIDNG ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  73. Ludacrispat says:

    2-0 after four batters….sweet

  74. EliPorter says:

the mets have two guys in perez and heilman who are momentum killers… you just hate to see these goons pitch in important games

  75. Pacman_Jones says:

    It’s all over. Clap-Clap, CLAP-CLAP-CLAP.

  76. adam900 says:

told you guys they will not keep it up on the road.

  77. miker94 says:

    he blows

  78. cohen1333 says:

Does anybody else hate hearing that woman PA announcer at AT&T Park. Can’t stand her voice.

  79. Andrew says:

Ah, vintage Oliver Perez. Love those early runs.

    Sigh…

  80. WrightsRight says:

I just have a sense that OP doesn’t give a crap tonight…it’s windy, it’s cold, he’s tired, he could be playing video games, he could be watching TV, hmm is that a bird over there because I like birds, mmmm trolley cars, i like trolley cards, but it’s cold and i’m too tired to pitch…

  81. gipper82475 says:

    Bad bad Ollie!!!

  82. donwkim79 says:

We better Score Alot of Runs Today… Perez is throwing MeatBalls…

  83. Metdamage says:

Its the bubble gum. Make him spit it OUT!!!!

  84. Ludacrispat says:

    this giants lineup is pathetic.

ominous feelings when we play these 10 pm games. they never seem to go well

  85. Pacman_Jones says:

The worst part of all this? We need to listen to the little puppy all day tomorrow about how the giants beat up on Oliver Perez. I can hear it now, “oh boy, that oliver perez, what a pitcher he is huh Mikey? Say something funny Mike!” I think I won’t be tuning in tomorrow.

  86. EliPorter says:

that high and outside fastball that ollie throws might be the most frustrating pitch you will ever see.

“rich aurillia is a blue-collar worker”- keith

  87. CitizenSnips says:

How can Boras possibly defend this guy?

  88. teufelshuffle86 says:

Why aren’t they waiting to start Pedro in San Diego where the weather is in the 70’s? The fact that I’ve already seen two guys wearing winter hats does not sit well for a guy in his 40’s coming off a hamstring injury. Just sayin’.

  89. Boooooo says:

    RICK PEDRSEN YOU SUCK TOO!!!!

    Perez, pelfrey, heilman..

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?????

  90. the Straw says:

I’ll be interested to see who the LONG MAN is today, once ollie is pulled after about an inning.

If its Vargas, then we may see who willie has decided leaves the rotation with Pedro returning.

  91. MetsFan4Decades says:

Gary – ‘Perez is just all over the place tonight’.
Wish I had a dime for every start of his we’ve heard that….

  92. Nate W. says:

an 0-2 count turns into 3-2…

  93. adam900 says:

at least its a late start, so I can sleep by the 4th inning.

  94. OrangEandBlue says:

I’ve been telling you guys this but Perez would be great trade bait.
Many of you hope that Perez will find himself but this is what Ollie is. He will pitch great one day, and then terribly the next. But right now he is not pitching well at all. He is 26 years old now and the Mets cannot afford for him to go out there and only last for a short time.

The Mets can package Ollie with Heilman and probably get something extremely useful in return. The Mets could just replace Heilman by by keeping both Vargas and Pelfrey in the rotation. I’d rather take my chances with Pelf who can actually last for a long time. Or the Mets can bring up Armas Jr. to take the spot.

Losing Heilman and Perez is a win win for the Mets.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

      +1

    • OrangEandBlue says:

Cohen, why isn’t Oliver Perez an option to be removed from the rotation? Pelfrey and Vargas are better than him so why should Ollie keep getting chances.

Oliver Perez is this years Guillermo Mota.

I hope Wagner makes Ollie cry.

  95. I’m confused.

Shouldn’t the pitcher be the most rested and the one with energy during their current schedule??

I think the Mets needed a lead to work with today, so good job Perez thus far.

    • wrightstuff08 says:

at this rate Perez might be worth a 1 year/4 million deal.

      • Don Hahn says:

you’re right, another great decision by Boras, you have a pitcher like Perez who is so inconsistent, and you don’t look him up, Perez is awful, the scary is so dumb looking too

  96. EliPorter says:

    a question for the ages:

bigger headcase: armando benitez or oliver perez

  97. donwkim79 says:

Giants came to play ball… Mets better match their INtensity or it could get ugly real Quick… Let’s Go MEts…

  98. Boooooo says:

pedersen should slap him in the face and say ‘ You are going to et me firedyou little bich!!!”

  99. EliPorter says:

    good night

  100. Nate W. says:

Get Claudio Vargas up in the pen!
He’s already pitched well on 3 days rest and he might be leaving tomorrow anyway. Get him in there!

  101. amazin82 says:

You can’t even get mad at O’Pea at this point. It’s like when a puppy pees on the carpet: you know it’s going to happen at some point.

  102. Pulled before he’s out of the first.

  103. Boooooo says:

ARE YOU FUKING KIDDING ME PEREZ?????????????????????

  104. the Straw says:

    goodnight.

  105. MainStMets says:

hes makin this team ook like the NY Giants of Mays, etc

hit or miss OP is def a miss tonight, looks like BP out there, down 4-nil, cmon now

  106. donwkim79 says:

    Check Please….

  107. teufelshuffle86 says:

Way to show up Ollie. Looks like I will get to bed at a reasonable time tonight after all.

  108. Ludacrispat says:

i don’t know who i hate more. perez, or me for being dumb enough to buy his jersey

  109. Metdamage says:

Oliver Perez has made this lineup look like the ‘27 Yankees. Get him out now.

  110. MainStMets says:

lets hope wags sticks it to OP again for not givin the team any length tonight

  111. End the season says:

Perez can walk after this season for all I care

    • chew13 says:

Yea i’m sick of it. He pitches when he wants to. WILLIE GET HIM OUT OF THE GAME NOW!!

  112. m00kie says:

maybe Ollie wasn’t the best guy to send off by himself and do some thinking. At least he made it an easy decision whether to stay up..

    night.

  113. metsfanmurph says:

Can we just send Perez down when Pedro comes back?

  114. Boooooo says:

i hate this guy.. i hate him i hate him i hate him i hate him

  115. donwkim79 says:

Why the hell isn’t anybody warming UP>……. Come on Take this bum out…. DAmmmmmn..

  116. miker94 says:

well that about does it. if he pitches in the 2nd inning it would be a HUGE mistake

  117. The Glider says:

    Oh no, it’s Evil Ollie.

Scott Boras is having a heart attack right now watching the money go down the drain.

  118. WrightsRight says:

Delgado would be a leader in my eyes if he just went over to OP and coldcocked him. Put him and us out of our misery.

  119. jakeha23 says:

    PEREZ IS AWFUL

  120. EliPorter says:

    FORGET IT

  121. playmaker3128 says:

It sucks when this happens, kills any momentum the team has. Perez looks horrible out there.

    Thanks Ollie.

  122. Pacman_Jones says:

    HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA! PEACE OLLIE YOU BUM!

  123. adam900 says:

OMG Ollie please rot in hell.

  124. Ludacrispat says:

is this a goddamn joke? perez is a loser

  125. Boooooo says:

well, lets hope we win tomorrow…

  126. Kugaa says:

i cant believe this guy put perez in the bullpen for mop up duties can they call a time out now oh it baseball

  127. teufelshuffle86 says:

Jesus!! Is this a replay of batting practice or the real game?

  128. MainStMets says:

this no name team has just won game 1 of the series, never has hit more than 2 HRs in ANY F’N SEASON!!!!!

    vargas time baby

  129. Nate W. says:

maybe they should put Oliver Perez in the bullpen instead of Vargas. Let him “clear his head” for a little while too.

  130. End the season says:

Send him down, keep Pelfrey up

  131. Don Hahn says:

Oliver perez is awful, time to think of plan B , maybe Vargas and Pelfrey should be kept in the rotation, Perez is awful, and dumb, look at that look on his face, blank

  132. MetsFan4Decades says:

You have REALLY got to be kidding me, Ollie….

  133. metsfan119 says:

Don’t take this clown out, make him throw 300 pitches if need be

  134. metsfanmurph says:

Can we at least plunk Aaron Rowand and get something out of this game.

  135. the Straw says:

Is Perez out of options…maybe hes the one who needs to go down.

    • Nate W. says:

yea, he has the right to refuse.

they could DL him like the Yankees did with Hughes and send him A ball to “rehab” his head.

  136. Constnza81V2.0 says:

Can’t wait for the idiotic team to pay this loser $12M a year in the off-season. We’ll enjoy the two draft picks.

  137. OrangEandBlue says:

The Mets are down six runs. If they can manage to win this game I will forget about The Collapse.

  138. WrightsRight says:

“Oliver Perez’ world has come crashing down…”

How often have we heard that? He has a pitching IQ of -4. He’s a gutless dunce.

  139. EliPorter says:

i want to see ollie give up a home run to the pitcher. if anyone would do it, it would be him. this guy sucks.

  140. BlueTrane says:

Who let the mental patient pitch….

  141. donwkim79 says:

Perez Electric Stuff??????? Giant’s are PUnking this Punk…

  142. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

The curse of Gary Cohen lives.

  143. metsforever says:

Scott Boras must be drinking heavily about now. Ollie is costing him plenty

  144. zen says:

    bizarro ollie. again.

there goes the type ‘a’ free agent status along with the high draft pick and sandwich pick to the mets in the off-season.

hopefully he’ll settle down so the entire bullpen doesn’t need to be used with pedro coming back tomorrow.

  145. metsfan119 says:

I was going to blame the Mets for blowing their first inning opportunity, but clearly Perez wasn’t going to give them any chance of winning either way

  146. Jay says:

Ugh Russo is going to be intolerable tomorrow.

Anyways, as the old addage goes:

In baseball, momentum is the next day’s starting pitcher.

  147. Ludacrispat says:

couldnt he just give up that homer and then set them aside. let this game actually mean something. 1-0 is not a big deal.

but 6-0. are you fuking kidding me perez? you are a joke. rot in hell

    • Nate W. says:

Nope. I he did that they could have PH for him.

Now Vargas will bat 3rd upon entering the game.

  148. HITorDIE25 says:

its still the first inning and we are playing the giants. Ollie sucks dick and cant wait til he isnt on the team next year, but we have the fire power. Dont stop believing that we cant come back after the what we have down the last couple weeks. All and all ollie is a hoe bag

  149. gipper82475 says:

Kill me. Kill me now. OP has to go. He’s a momentum killer and a head case.

  150. mrosey says:

MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP!

  151. The Glider says:

Oh well. Time to go watch professional wrestling.

In parting, may I suggest that Willie just let Perez now pitch through the 6th inning no matter what. We’re losing this game anyhow.

    Thank you ESPN.

  152. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

well I guess I don’t have to worry about staying up late for this one. uugh…

  153. metsfanmurph says:

I am really sick of Perez…. I can’t stand a pitcher you can’t depend on.

  154. miker94 says:

yeah, perez is a good pitcher. and to think that he’s our #2 guy. Hahahahahahaha! truthfully he should not even be in the mets rotation, but if he is, he honestly should be the #5 guy.

    • chew13 says:

Yea Willie needs to re-work the rotation.

      It should be:

      Santana
      Pedro
      Maine
      Perez
      Pelfrey

You could swap in Vargas for either one of the bottom two instead.

  155. cohen1333 says:

sign ron darling. at least he can control where the hell his pitches go….ollie is pathetic.

  156. egnirc says:

maybe the Yankees will take Perez for Duncan.

    Or outright release this bum.

Only good thing is Boras is probably sweating in his pants.

  157. MainStMets says:

one time thru the lineup and hes only gotten 1 guy out

i really dont even kno any of these guys

  158. miker94 says:

and still just 1 out, why is this guy still in the game?

  159. End the season says:

    Good effort Ollie

  160. EliPorter says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  161. metsfan119 says:

seriously, leave Perez in the game, f^%k him, let him embarrass himself

  162. Kugaa says:

    traded him

  163. Ludacrispat says:

this just in- Oliver Perez’s ERA is now 5.70

is there any reason he shouldn’t get the steve trachsel treatment and be sent to the minors?

    • metsforever says:

He’d say no and they would get nothing for him. You can usually get something for a lefty, even when they suck

  164. WrightsRight says:

    GUTLESS

  165. cohen1333 says:

    this was DISGUSTING.

  166. Gina says:

    good God.

  167. erik says:

Good thing he won his arbitration case. He really earned that money tonight.

  168. MainStMets says:

jesus 1/3 of an inning, this guy is the opposite of light out—-lights on!

  169. Constnza81V2.0 says:

You can’t have as bad a start as Oliver Perez just had ….

    See Glavine, Tom.

  170. The Glider says:

    Glavine-esque!

    • donwkim79 says:

I’m no Big Fan of Glavine ,but Don’t compare this Bum to 2 Time Cy Young Award winner who has 300 + career wins… Ollie fuggin Sucks…

  171. OrangEandBlue says:

ONE THIRD OF AN INNING! THATS IT! I hope Wagner kicks Oliver Perez’s family jewels. There goes all of the Mets momentum.

  172. theperfectgame says:

Well, Ollie made my decision easy. It’s gonna be an early night. I hope I read about a wonderful comeback tomorrow morning, but for now I’m gonna file this one under loss.

  173. metsfan119 says:

That’s why I never pay for tickets when Perez starts

  174. donwkim79 says:

    Hey Ollie…. F U….

  175. adam900 says:

Good I can go to bed early. I hate you Ollie.

  176. gipper82475 says:

    Boooooooooooooooooooo!

    Head case!

  177. Dafatone80 says:

    This game doesn’t count.

How much sleep did the Mets get? What time did they even get into their hotel?

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Perez has been there since yesterday. This has nothing to do with anyone but Perez.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Yeah, that must be it. Except Perez got there early. Any other excuses?

    • mrosey says:

      Perez left yesterday morning.

    • egnirc says:

Perez had a whole extra day.
He flew in the day before!
NO EXCUSE for such a horrible pitching performance.

    • gipper82475 says:

Dude, pay attention. Ollie and Pedro flew out a day early (as is common with such tight travel times and long distances).

This is all on him so far and he had a good night’s sleep.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Then again, I’m still trying to figure out why “this game doesn’t count”…

Oh, because to this guy only the wins count. That’s why.

  178. WestCoastMets_since86 says:

….so guys, first inning – what I miss? Did OP sit ‘em down 1-2-3?

If we resign him, I will go CRAZY. They guy is seriously Jekyll and Hyde. I’ve never seen anyone with the skills to throw a no hitter and give up 10 runs in the first inning. In back to back starts.

  179. teufelshuffle86 says:

At this point, why not leave him in? The game is already over and now we have to use Vargas.

    Thanks OP you f’ing hack!!!!

  180. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Ollie auditioning for the role of Tom Glavine in The Mets Stab Me Through The !#@$ Heart.

  181. Ludacrispat says:

and this dumb team giving him pats on the as$, someone should just go up to him and say- “way to go you piece of sht” its not like this guy is some cy young winner who had one bad outing- he’s been pulling this kind of crap all season

  182. EliPorter says:

ollie perez’s thoughts right now: “is hannah montana on?”

  183. WrightStuff says:

At least Perez did better than Glavine last september…

  184. gomets6091 says:

I don’t get all of this Ollie hatred: it’s obvious he’s just doing his best Tom Glavine impression, and I say kudos to him, he’s really doing a bang-up job.

  185. Gina says:

As soon as Johan stops a slide Perez starts a new one.

  186. metsfan42793 says:

this game was over when randy winn hit a leadoff homrun. does anyone know if perez has options? claudio vargas and pelfrey deserve to stay in the big leagues over him

  187. Master Neo says:

Which is worse, the Glavine game from the end of last year or Ollie Perez today

    • Ludacrispat says:

      last year’s game x123929348298429342

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Glavine’s game. Only b/c it was the last Met game we all would be seeing until the 2008 season. At least tonight, they can pick up and go on….

    • metsforever says:

Glavine. Without a doubt. Expectations and consequences were way higher. We’ve grown to expect this from Ollie

    • gomets6091 says:

that can’t even be a serious question? Tom Glavine’s game might have been the single worst performance in MLB history. It’s the baseball equivalent of Tony Eason’s SB in 1985. A HOF pitcher in the last game of the season with a Division crown on the line and the guy can’t even get 2 outs?

Nothing, NOTHING, can compare to that, especially not a mid-season game between two 4th place teams.

  188. metsfanmurph says:

Now I am going to have to hear Gary Cohen bitch and moan about the travel…… I don’t want to hear how tough it is to fly first class and get 10 hours of sleep to play a baseball game.

I have worked midnight to 8 and then had to be back into work at noon, so I don’t want to hear about how the Mets “dragged into San Francisco.”

    • donwkim79 says:

YOur 100 percent right… These MLB players are pampered like Kings and have no excuse for this Nonsense… Ollie just plain sucks… No confidence in this guy…

    • gipper82475 says:

The travel schedule stinks….but Ollie flew out a day early with Pedro…so no excuses (other than Ollie’s mental poblems).

    • Don Logan says:

I find Cohen extremely annoying to listen to on a nightly basis. Fortunately, with the Extra Innings package I don’t have to hear him each and every night. I’d take Howie over him anytime.

  189. metsforever says:

At least I will be awake at work tomorrow. This could be an ugly trip. The Mets never play well in SF and they usually stink in SD. Add that into the horrible schedule and things could get ugly fast. To think Ollie was sent out early. UGH

  190. Dafatone80 says:

Also, Ollie got destroyed by the Giants last year. Has bad numbers against them. Wonder what it is.

  191. The Glider says:

Honestly, with the late night flight after last night’s game, I really didn’t count on us winning tonight.

Now, we just need to mentally let go of this game and win the series from the Giants.

    It’s all about winning series.

And, don’t worry. Rick Peterson will fix him in 5 minutes.

    • Ludacrispat says:

dude you don’t find it said that we have to throw in the towel for this game by the top of the second inning?

    • metsfanmurph says:

I don’t wanna hear this crap about the late flight. Let’s say at the worst they all got to bed at 6AM EST, they still have the opportunity to get 10 hours of sleep TO PLAY A BASBALL GAME. It is not like they got four hours of sleep and have to dig ditches.

  192. theperfectgame says:

    No toughness…

  193. SantanaCYYOung says:

might as well start giving your regulars some rest (wright, reyes, beltran, church, and maybe even castillo if there are enough bench players)

that’s why i still don’t believe in this team

  194. End the season says:

That guy who grounded out should be embarrassed

  195. Darryl Strawberry says:

In 06 it was Traschel, in 07 it was Glavine and in 08 it’s Perez. I couldn’t wait for the other two to be gone and I can’t wait for Perez to be gone next year. I hope Vargas can settle in. Maybe we can chip away at this lead.

  196. Metdamage says:

The Mets are paying this schitzo 6 million to get one out?!!?!!
He’s meticulous with his eyebrows but how about getting your pitches to find the strike zone!!!!

  197. MainStMets says:

highlight of the night so far…keith talkin abt #7 looking weird on a SS in ref. to the SF SS….does he think jose looks weird wearing it too?

  198. teufelshuffle86 says:

One pitch by Vargas, one out.

  199. TheIcon says:

The good thing is it’s still early and Sanchez is Oliver Perez light.

  200. WrightsRight says:

There is no way that Bora$ can look himself in the mirror and demand anything more than $5 millon/year for this guy. Talent is overrated. The guy’s got no brains, no guts, no savvy…he’s a joke in 70% of his starts and lucky during the other 30%. “Effectively Wild”? What an overrated compliment….

Well, if they can hold them here….Cubs were down 9-1 the other day…..

  201. D in Ben Lomond says:

This is why I picked tues and wed games to attend. Last time Perez was in SF, he had a no-hitter through 4 and gave up 8 runs in the 5th. terrible to sit through perez.

  202. gomets6091 says:

to be completely honest, I’m almost glad: this crap caused me to turn on the Stanley Cup just in time to watch the Pens send it into OT with 44 seconds left. Nothing better than an elimination Stanley Cup OT game. Even if you’re not a hockey fan, I’d recommend watching it: much better than watching the Bad Ollie pitch.

  203. zen says:

    1. better fit wagner with the hannibal lecter mask after the game

    2. put ollie in the bullpen with pedro back. punish him. let him back in the rotation after a month.

  204. GregB says:

as bad as that was, what really pisses me off is that Perez did his jaunty hop-skip-jump over the foul line on his way to the showers.

  205. Flushing_is_Burning says:

hey why don’t they put heilman in there and make this look even more ridiculous.

  206. mrosey says:

    New Rotation OFFICIALLY:

    Johan
    Pedro
    Maine
    Vargas
    Pelfrey

    • theperfectgame says:

      Eh, I kinda prefer:
      Johan
      Pedro
      Maine
      Vargas
      Forfeit

I guess I could stomach Pelfrey if Pedro gets injured again. Also it’d look pretty silly with 2 scheduled forfeits every 5 games…

  207. Boooooo says:

why are they letting him drink our gatorade!!!!

    SEND HIM BACK TO NY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  208. MainStMets says:

send ollie down!?!?!?! ha im sure thats NEVER going to happen, isnt he past the point in his career where he can just be “sent down”

    • Ludacrispat says:

dude, his ERA is approaching 6. he is one of the worst starting pitchers in the MLB.

do you even care anymore if they lose him for good?

  209. EliPorter says:

“randy winn homered to start this carnage”

    well said, gary, well said

300 comments before the 1st inning ends- you know only ollie could have pitched

  210. teufelshuffle86 says:

Is the runner at first really important at this point?

  211. SantanaCYYOung says:

demote perez – he still has options?

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

You don’t want to do that. That is just stupid. You let him pitch out the year and hopefully he’ll end it with about 10-13 wins and a 4.50 ERA which should be good enough to make him a Type A free agent. Then we get two draft picks for him (like we got for Glavine) and let him ride off into the sunset. Go Ollie!

  212. Two-By-Four says:

Santana one night followed by Perez the next. It follows the old saying about going from the Pent-House to the Out-House. Seriously we are starting to see the Perez they saw in Pittsburgh and it can be ugly.

  213. stickguy says:

Yuck. Good thing I wasn’t watching.

This has all the earmrks of the offense just deflated (after a late night and long flight) and just going quietly. For that reason, I would have told Ollie he is pitching 5 inings no matter how bad the score was, and to suck it up.

Now I guess the pen will be toast.

Of course, the best thing is to pitch the guy losing his job for Pedro as long as possible, right?

  214. metsfan119 says:

I don’t know if Perez is mentally retarded, but he treading really close to the line

    • WrightsRight says:

      if he’s not retarded, he’s definitely ADD…

…at least he can go check out the seals and trolley cars which he was thinking of on the mound.

  215. metsfan42793 says:

i hope the mets can come back but the way it looked in the top of the first no being able to capitalize on the bases loaded im not sure they can

    • metsforever says:

They’ll mail it in now and head back to the Four Seasons for room service and regroup for Pedro

  216. OrangEandBlue says:

    Its Trade Proposal TIME!

Trade Heilman, Perez, and $4.8 MM to the Tampa Bay Rays for Jason Hammel.

  217. MainStMets says:

be great if vargas came in and threw 8 2/3 hitless baseball and mets win 7-6

  218. drodro22 says:

they should trade perez to the yankees…..

    • OrangEandBlue says:

The Yankees would be willing to eat up all of Perez’s contract. I do not give a dam if Perez turns into an ace for the Yanks, GET HIM OF THIS TEAM.

The Mets could probably get an Alberto Gonzalez for Perez.

      • aznJoe says:

Man, just send Perez to the Yankees for a double a prospect or something. I do not care about Perez anymore. I want to see Jon Niese pitch up here instead of Perez.

  219. Darryl Strawberry says:

It’s way too early in this game to count us out. Our offense has been clicking and SF is not a good team. Let’s hang in there.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

mets haven’t come back from a 3 run deficit all year

    • metsfan119 says:

Their pitching is actually pretty good, it’s their anemic offense which just anally raped Perez that’s been the cause of them losing.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I’ll jump on that band wagon. I’d better not be staying up late and losing sleep to watch some 10 run game blowout with the Mets scratching out 3 hits……

      Where’s my Voodoo doll ???

  220. metsfan119 says:

All this does is show how important Pedro’s comeback is

  221. teufelshuffle86 says:

Julio Franco is now on as an analyst on Baseball Tonight. :D

  222. SantanaCYYOung says:

how come every player hits there first ml hr against the mets?

  223. MeesesGlokmah says:

Saw Tatis strike out. Went to take shower. Came back and saw the score. Went to take another shower.

  224. donwkim79 says:

Ollie Deserves to be WaterBoarded… Send Him to Guantanamo Bay….

  225. skylog says:

way to just totally take the momentum way ollie. i said to myself, no way it could as bad as the start last year (i think it was then). i could not be any more wrong.

finally, things were looking up. there was a chance to carry that to this trip. while they may still have a good trip, it just got a lot harder. who knows what pedro will have tomorrow?

i usually stay up for these games, killing myself for the nexy day, but tonight i will pass and hope for a miracle when i check the score in the morning.

let’s go mets! score me a miracle.

    • metsfan119 says:

I don’t consider this a momentum setback, just a blip from a pitcher with downs syndrome

  226. Crisera says:

    This sucks!

  227. Ludacrispat says:

the sad thing is that we’re used to watching the mets cash it in after being down 7-3 in the ninth inning

now, we have to watch 8 innings of groundouts, popups and strikeouts

    Sanchez’s line- 7.1 IP, 2 ER

  228. djstue says:

    What a buzzkill…

  229. adam900 says:

Oliver Perez is the most worthless pitcher in all of baseball. We should send him down instead of Vargas.

  230. metsfan42793 says:

look at the bright side….we get to listen to guiseppe franco. maybe perez was thinking how he was going to get a haircut at guiseppes

  231. Dafatone80 says:

Ollie flew in early? Well, duh. I’m an idiot.

He just sucks in SF. Inconsistent or not, he’s still been okay this year. Not good, and I’m not saying we should necessarily resign him, but he hasn’t lost his spot in the rotation yet.

    • Nate W. says:

He probably got to the team hotel later than the team flew in anyway. That SF nightlife is too enticing for some…

  232. drodro22 says:

after seeing the yanks and their current troubles, and considering they have the money to extend him, i really think he should be traded

  233. gipper82475 says:

And, now the pen will be burned for Pedro’s 4 and 2/3 innings performance tomorrow…

  234. drodro22 says:

delgado is seeing the ball a lot better

  235. metsfanmurph says:

Why would they send Muniz down? I was impressed by him

  236. metsfan42793 says:

how about the mets sign guiseppe franco

  237. SantanaCYYOung says:

no way the mets offer more than a two year deal after the season

  238. teufelshuffle86 says:

Let’s get at least one back here.

  239. MainStMets says:

top of 2nd and its ALREADY 11pm here in NJ…oh boy by delgado to start off the inning

  240. EliPorter says:

hey omar, want to make a splash? waive oliver.

    • drodro22 says:

      TRADE HIM

      • Ludacrispat says:

its official- nobody can look at the oliver perez/roberto hernandez for nady trade and say it went the mets’ way

        • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Ollie will be a type A at the end of this year (glavine was) and we will get two picks for him. That has tremendous value.

And also, do the 06 playoffs (where he almost pitched us into a world series) and the entire 07 season (15 wins, 3.56 ERA) not count for you? Relax you guys.

        • chew13 says:

          I agree with Jose.

        • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

          Thanks dude.

  241. Ludacrispat says:

leadoff double will of course be wasted

  242. SantanaCYYOung says:

there goes the chance for the run

  243. Nate W. says:

Now we get a “limited” Pedro tomorrow with no safety net (Vargas) and probably not much of a pen by the time this is over… I hope they hold back Pelfrey’s throw day for during the game tomorrow.

The Zephers best two starters, Armas and Figueroa just starter today and yesterday, so they are out as options.

Kunz had pitched three days in a row before being off today.

Tim McNab might be the likely option if they need a fresh arm.

  244. the Straw says:

you think the Yankees would trade us Ian kennedy for OP. How about OP and Heilman?

    • drodro22 says:

      i dont want kennedy

      • the Straw says:

kennedy is young and could still be very good.

        • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

          Kennedy sucks.

        • aznJoe says:

Kennedy is an a hole and sux. i hate his attitude.

        • Don Logan says:

What is w/ all the assinine Yankee-Met trade proposals on here. They aren’t going to make a trade w/ each other. Is the only reason these people propose these is b/c they haven’t watched a game all season that didn’t involve the Yankees or Mets? Do you only know the players that are on those two teams?

  245. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

I’ve put this game in my picture-in-picture on my tv so I can watch Pittsburgh get their hearts broken in OT.

  246. NadyFan says:

Stranger things have happened in baseball. For some strange reason I have this feeling vargas is going to shut down the Giants and the Mets will slowly get back into this game.

The Mets missed the boat on trading Ollie and getting something decent in return. The longer they keep sending him out there to pitch the lower his trade value becomes.

    • Boooooo says:

we can trade him to giuseppe franco for 90 days worth of procede..

AS long as gary busey comes with it

  247. OrangEandBlue says:

Guys, how about Oliver Perez and cash considerations to the Orioles of Alex Cintron?

  248. cohen1333 says:

eerily similar starts by ollie tonight and one tom glavine, game 162

  249. Boooooo says:

    ZITO vs PEDRO tomorrow..

theres somethign to look forward too!!!

That and joba the hut getting shelled for nyy

  250. Flushing_is_Burning says:

WEe saw the mets came back from 1 run 2 run deficit the past week, 6 is a huge hole to dig for yourself. If they can come back from this, then this is a team with playoff potential.

  251. MainStMets says:

    jose is the bright spot

  252. adam900 says:

    slowly coming back….

  253. metaje says:

    chip away baby

  254. zen says:

nice job, reyes. great back into this game.

  255. NadyFan says:

Little by little…………………………… you’ll be surprised tomorrow morning.

  256. AlreadyMissShea says:

There isn’t a reason in the world why the Mets can’t still come back and win this game. That’s why I was so ticked off at the “this game doesn’t count” comment, besides it being a ridiculous comment anyway unless it was meant to be a joke.

But they can certainly still win this one. Then again, I’m not completely convinced yet that this team isn’t what their record as of right now says they are. They’ve played better baseball, had a couple of good series in a row, but come on… We really do need to see more.

    • jcervone7 says:

I agree completely, this offense is more than capable of putting up 6 runs. They just haven’t shown it yet.

  257. Ryn05 says:

    Jose jose jose jose….

  258. teufelshuffle86 says:

    There’s one.

    baby steps.

  259. drodro22 says:

    yea jose

  260. MainStMets says:

    sanchez= OP light

  261. theperfectgame says:

    that’s one! haha!

  262. donwkim79 says:

    Way to go JOse baby…

  263. BlueTrane says:

we are going to win this game..

  264. notonyourradar says:

I think Ollie is the worst starter we have. Since last year, he’s either been incredible or complete garbage. Too unpredictable in the rotation, or in this years case, awfully predictable.

  265. the Straw says:

Castillo hits a bomb here from the right side. we are back in it.

  266. SantanaCYYOung says:

if its out of reach by the 6th, then heilman should go at least 3, in order to save the pen

    vargas needs to go 5

  267. theperfectgame says:

biggest indicator of a potential comeback = perez is out of this game

  268. Ludacrispat says:

we need a castillo walk and a wright dinger

  269. the Straw says:

    thats if….

  270. Metdamage says:

    This game is not over.

  271. Ludacrispat says:

that catch just took any gas out of our momentum

  272. playmaker3128 says:

Man its a shame that ollie let up those 6 runs. Sanchez doesnt exactly look great out there.

  273. Nate W. says:

I’m sticking with this game. I have little confidence they can come all the way back, but I think it will be a fun rest of the game. They now have the fight to actually make a valiant try to come back.

  274. MainStMets says:

winn closes eyes and stick out glove, oh look i caught a baseball

  275. OrangEandBlue says:

So what is Luis now? 0 for his 7?

  276. WrightsRight says:

that’s one run…chip away, chip away

  277. teufelshuffle86 says:

How are you down 5 runs and looking at a 3-1 fastball right down the pipe?

  278. NadyFan says:

The key is for Vargas to hold down the Giants.

  279. drodro22 says:

i still get annoyed by castillo trying to draw a walk….drive in the RUN man!

  280. Boooooo says:

why does castillo always look at strike 1 and 2 when it is 3-0.. then he is forced to swing at anything close..

3-1 is the bst pitch you are going to get luis..

    SWING!!!

  281. metsfanmurph says:

Cohen please stop whining about the Mets getting into town at 5:30 it’s so annoying. They flew first class and they are playing a baseball game.

    • OrangEandBlue says:

      +2

    • donwkim79 says:

I know right WTF Gary Cohen… These guys are making millions of dollars sleeping in 5 star hotels and flying First class… Life isn’t Hard for these Guys… Geeez Cohen is pissing me off…. Fire Cohen and get Timmy Mccarver Back to the Mets….

      • gipper82475 says:

Have you ever done a transcon redeye in what passes for first class on domestic airlines? It stinks. I have trouble doing my job the next da (maybe two) and I don’t have to perform at the level of a pro athlete.

Also, I believe they charter Delta flights – no way the whole team is fitting in FC.

That said, no excuse for Ollie since he flew out early.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yeah, it is a little annoying considering the money most make and the fact that they’re not jammed in like sardines on a packed red-eye, having your first flight canceled, getting the last seat in the back row on standby on the next, between two large men, and having your suitcase not make it with you – and having 4 hours to make a business meeting with no clothes.
Been there, done that, wore the tee shirt.
Come on, Kevin – these guys do not know what ‘rough’ is…..

      • metsfanmurph says:

Now Burkhardt is complaining about it.

I would like to see these guys work a double and then get 5 hours of sleep and work the next day.

        • donwkim79 says:

These Guys Need to get some BUDS Navy SEal training and stop whinning like little Women…

  282. donwkim79 says:

I fuggin Hate that biitch Rany Winn who looks like that Black guy from Mad TV… Randy Winn should get friggin beaned in the HEAD….

  283. Ludacrispat says:

i cant stand this team. one day i think the world is perfect, and within twenty minutes i want the manager, gm, second baseman, and 40% of the rotation gone

  284. Crisera says:

no cause if a he get walked then david wright is up and can hit reyes and possibly castillo home. And cut the lead

  285. WrightsRight says:

does OP have any options…? can they send him down, get the Trax/Bobby Jones treatment? He’s probably not smart/dedicated enough for that to be a success but just curious…

    • OrangEandBlue says:

The Yankees would trade for Oliver Perez. Alberto Gonzalez for Ollie straight up would work for me.

      • stickguy says:

If Pedro proves to be healthy, and there is some actual possibility that Duque might reappear, I trade OP for a decent package if one could be had.

Of course, you all know that if he goes the yanks, he pitches a no hitter this year, right?

    • Nate W. says:

He has over 5 years of service time so he can opt to become a free agent instead of being sent down.

Of course, I cant imagine too many teams putting him right in their rotation anyway, so he would be in the minors one way or the other.

They can send him to the pen or find a way to put him on the DL and let him go to St. Lucie for a while.

  286. drodro22 says:

that castillo at bat is why this mets team is a .500 team……he showed a little something, and then got hurt, and now is ice cold again….

  287. stickguy says:

OK, If Vargas shuts them down for a while, they can get right back in this.

Probably means he ends up in the pen though, and Muniz down, if Vargas goes deep.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

if muniz is going down, which looks probable, then he needs to go two today

    • Nate W. says:

eh, its about the same as Figueroa’s long relief outing. It was just a session between starts.

I could see them bringing back Perez on short rest seeing as he barely threw at all.

      Pedro tomorrow 6/3
      Maine on Wed 6/4
Pelfrey on Thurs 6/5, or Perez if Pelfrey is sent down
      Santana on Friday 6/6
      Perez on Sat (or Vargas)
Pedro on Sun (or Pelfrey if he is just skipped)

  288. Boooooo says:

just relax folks, the mets are coming around…

perez just sucks, nothing the team can do about that..

he is a head case piece of crap.. very gagne like right now.

he needs to be disciplined.. maybe have vargas steal a start or two..

either that or put glass in his big league chew… at least we would see some emotion when he cut his mouth

  289. MainStMets says:

whew, i feared church sliding into the RF wall on that foul ball

enough abt the team being tired, charlie samuels is the real hero here, up all night getting theclub house ready

    • NadyFan says:

I honestly beleive anyone of us here on this blog could have done a better job than OP today.

      • Boooooo says:

yeah i wouldve only given up three runs before i hit by pitch the bases loaded, and was then taken out of the game.

  290. OrangEandBlue says:

If the Mets truly wanted to win they would get rid of Delgado, Perez, and Heilman.

    • NadyFan says:

Perfect. That’s my wish list also.

    • Ludacrispat says:

delgado and heilman are going to come back to life. you’ll see.

perez- little hope left. maybe he’s good every other year?

    • Flushing_is_Burning says:

I still have a little faith in Delgado, but Heilman and OP have proven themselves again and again that they are not what we need if we want to win

  291. Boooooo says:

    think of it this way,

if we DO come back and win this game… what a win that would be!!!

  292. MainStMets says:

oh man the sny feed just went to a black screen, i was hoping it was soparnos-esque and it was all over

  293. metsfanmurph says:

I thought they just had an earthquake

  294. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice, Ramon !

  295. donwkim79 says:

    Razor Ramon… Hey Yo…

  296. NadyFan says:

    Big deal……..1000 hits

  297. Boooooo says:

is there a ‘ catcher named molina’ cloning factory somehwere?

Theres a spanish great grandmother somewhere saying.. I knew sleeping with johnny bench was a good idea!!!

  298. Ludacrispat says:

funny story- every position player on the giants has reached based safely

remember, the game is just 2 innings old

  299. metsfanmurph says:

Wow it’s Bengi Molina’s 1000th hit. I hope that ball makes it to Cooperstown.

  300. MainStMets says:

    man vargas looks good

he needs to stay up, send down some one else

  301. playmaker3128 says:

    Vargas looking decent.

  302. Nate W. says:

The announcers are selling Vargas short. He has started well and gone ‘deep’ into his starts. And he has been fairly effective latter in those starts.
There is no reason he cant pitch 6 or 7 innings tonight unless they need to PH for him.

  303. MetsFan4Decades says:

I don’t think they should send Vargas down and risk losing him. Not with the questions marks on the starting rotation and our boy Aaron in the bullpen…..

  304. SantanaCYYOung says:

i’ll feel better of the mets chances if they can score some runs in this inning with the middle of the lineup coming up, but i fear that they’ll go down 1-2-3

  305. the Straw says:

So does this mean that Pelfrey remains in the rotation and either Vargas or Muniz will be send down to tomorrow to make room for Pedro????

  306. metsfanmurph says:

Just a side note about Metsblog.com…… Does Val Pascucci have incriminating pitcures of the bloggers on this site? They all love this guy.

    • The Glider says:

Fans like anybody with a funny name who hits homers.

    • Nate W. says:

I could care less. He is Rob Deer reincarnated and would strike out 2-3 times a game in the bigs.

I know Bill James, the A’s and Red Sox have reinvented how they look at players, but how in the world did Rob Deer type guys ever have such long careers?

  307. metsfanmurph says:

    I’ll take it

  308. The Glider says:

Looks like a single to me.

  309. MainStMets says:

yea d wright! free base, who says you cant steal 1st

  310. NadyFan says:

    Good Omen.

  311. Ludacrispat says:

people who have pissed me off this season to an extent where i need therapy:

    aaron heilman
    oliver perez
    mike pelfrey
    luis castillo
    carlos delgado
    jorge sosa
    willie randolph
    omar minaya
    howard johnson
    mr. met
    cowbell-man
    mrs. met
the usher at shea who blocked me from catching a pepsi t-shirt

    • KinersKornerman says:

you forgot Reyes, Beltran and all the FOX/ESPN announcers. BTW, what’s up with the hatin’ on Mrs. Met?

  312. donwkim79 says:

What is UP with Cohen and BucketHead Complaining about a late flight???? geeez these two need to go to BUDS NAVY Seal Training and stop whinning like little bitches… GEEZZZZ… BE a Friggin MAN…

    • metsfanmurph says:

It’s very annoying and the over/under for Cohen complaints about it is 13

    • Ludacrispat says:

WAAAHHH WE DIDNT GET ENOUGH SLEEP ON OUR FIRST CLASS FLIGHT WAAAAAHHHHHH

    • The Glider says:

I can sympathize with being pissed at ESPN. You try hitting a 95 mph fastball after all night flight to the west coast.

      • donwkim79 says:

yOU SHUT YOUR pie hole…. These Guys make millions of Dollars Sleep in 5 star Hotels and Bang Hottest Chics…… Life is not tough for MLB players…

  313. RockfordMetsFan says:

Perez has an 7.56 ERA over his last 8 starts. He’s only pitched 38.1 innings and given up 32 earned runs (plus 5 unearned runs in his April 30th start). Only 2 of those games would qualify as quality starts. We were better off with Chan Ho Park and David Williams last year. What a joke.

  314. SantanaCYYOung says:

    no dp please

  315. Nate W. says:

I could see them bringing back Perez on short rest seeing as he barely threw at all.

    Pedro tomorrow 6/3
    Maine on Wed 6/4
Pelfrey on Thurs 6/5, or Perez if Pelfrey is sent down
    Santana on Friday 6/6
    Perez on Sat (or Vargas/Pelfrey)
Pedro on Sun (or Vargas/Pelfrey if they dont want to bring Pedro back on normal rest

  316. SantanaCYYOung says:

great ab carlos, watch this kid k 4 this inning

  317. NorfolkTides says:

If wright scored afters triking out and reaching, is that an earned run? Was that a Wild Pitch or a Passed ball? Does that determination determine if its an earned run or not?

  318. Crisera says:

Keith and Gary are gay fashion designers

  319. Ludacrispat says:

isn’t sad that if a pitcher went 1 inning and gave up 16 runs, he would have a better ERA than perez

  320. metsfanmurph says:

I thought Wright was jogging there but the replay proved me wrong

  321. Boooooo says:

is the ump a giant or is tatis a midget?

  322. Ludacrispat says:

fernando tatis’ novelty is over for me

i want a three run homer from delgado right here

  323. metsfanmurph says:

Nice hustle by Church and Tatis!!!!!!!!

  324. MainStMets says:

ill take the 2nd gift of the inning, now make it hurt!!!!

  325. NadyFan says:

We need a 3-run dinger here.

  326. donwkim79 says:

    MIghty Hustle Baby…

  327. SantanaCYYOung says:

good night..and the mets bats go to sleep

  328. teufelshuffle86 says:

Gotta get another one here and make them pay for the lax fielding. Come on Delgado!

  329. Crisera says:

    What the HELL DELGADO!?!?!?!?!?!?

  330. NadyFan says:

    Typical, Typical Delgado

  331. metsfanmurph says:

How about we trade Perez, Heilman, and Delgado for some Popeye’s chicken?

  332. SantanaCYYOung says:

what did everyone expect? come on don’t be fooled by a few wins at home….didn’t i hear perdo say that he would be a calming influence on perez?

    • darkstar73 says:

why does complaining about Perez turn into venom once again being spewed against this entire team? Some of you are just soooo fickle, its unbelievable.

  333. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    ugh rally killer

  334. NadyFan says:

If you were to bet on every Delgado at bat that he would pop up you would be killing the bookies by now!

  335. Ludacrispat says:

i think Rob Andrews should be the next best manager- AT LEAST HE’S NOT 91

  336. AlreadyMissShea says:

Does Delgado want to have that talk with Willie now?

  337. Ludacrispat says:

    ryan church is an animal

  338. SantanaCYYOung says:

    Church = WOW

  339. The Glider says:

Wow. What a gun on Church.

  340. NadyFan says:

Church is the man, plain and simple.

  341. drodro22 says:

oh ok ryan church continues to be the king

  342. MetsBroker1011 says:

Love Church! Need 2-3 more like him and Wright!

  343. MainStMets says:

sorry ray, your not 26 anymore, dead to right at 2b

“church introduces his howitzer to durham”

  344. metsfanmurph says:

What I don’t understand about this Lautenberg commercial is that he is 91 now. He apparently made fun of this chick who was 72 for being too old in 1982. So he would have been 66 which really isn’t that big of a difference.

    • Ludacrispat says:

no, he’ll be 91 at the end of this next term

    • NadyFan says:

I think you’re miss spelling his name, isn’t it Lousenberg?

    • gipper82475 says:

I belive the ad is that he’d be 91 at the END of his next term (Senators serve for six years), making him now about 85, and making him about 59 in 1982.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

      He’s not even 91 now.
      He’s 84.
I guess they’re talking about how old he’ll be at the end of his term.

Doesn’t really matter. You can’t beat Frank Lautenberg in New Jersey. The only time he didn’t serve was when he “retired”, and as soon as he decided to come back he won again.

  345. MetsFan4Decades says:

And Church just keeps right on doing it all…..

  346. gipper82475 says:

    Church has a cannon.

  347. MetLifer says:

Maybe we should have Ryan Church pitch. He has a cannon that’s accurate!

  348. darkstar73 says:

man, ollie sucked today, but if you guys are going to act like this for every loss, even when we’ve gotten things turned around, its going to be a looooong season. You’re turning your complaining about Ollie into venom spewing against the entire team, stop being so knee-jerk and fickle, its embarassing.

    • metsfanmurph says:

This is not an isolated bad start for Perez. He has been painfully inconsistent all season.

      • darkstar73 says:

that’s not the point, I seriously think some of you have reading comprehension problems, i’m not talking about Ollie, its as soon as we are losing, one thing goes bad, people just let it rip on the entire team, its like we never had that good stretch we just had.

    • gipper82475 says:

Yes, mood nazi! We shall all be upbeat and happy if you decree it to be our correct mood!

1.) Most of the complaining has been about head-case Ollie, not the team writ-large.

2.) Turned it around? To a game over .500, 4th place, 4 games out? Wow…book the tickertape parade. They’ve turned it around!

      • darkstar73 says:

hey, put words in my mouth all you want, but i’m not telling anyone to be in a good mood, its the reverting to venom spewing about any player on this team that gets me. Spew about Ollie all you want. And I would say that the last 7 games have been different then the 7 games before that. Will it last? Who knows, but i’m inclined to want to believe it will, because frankly, if I thought it wouldn’t, why would I be here?

        • gipper82475 says:

Ok, sure seemed like you were demanding a better mood.

I guess you just picked up on different things. Most of the “spewing” I saw was directed at Ollie, not others.

That said, I think the generally bad mood and instant anger amongst this fanbase is pretty understandable given the last calendar year or so.

  349. djstue says:

Churchie!!!!! This boy can flat out play.

  350. Nate W. says:

Delgado clearly shouldnt be playing against lefties. At least not this lefty…

Sanchez threw 55 pitches to get through 3 IP. They will have a chance against the Giants pen tonight so long as the offense doesnt roll over and play dead for 2-3 innings.

  351. drodro22 says:

delgado gave us our first run, dont diss him, he’s playing a lot better, especially defensively…..

  352. The Glider says:

Man, does anybody have a better arm than Church? If so, who?

  353. HOFMets57 says:

Anyone notice Delgado has reverted back to keeping his jersey clean? He totally had a chance to snag that liner.

Maybe Bill R. needs to bench him every 3 games before his sense of entitlement starts to entrench itself back into his thinking…

  354. MainStMets says:

and he just scooped it out—good def

  355. zen says:

    nice play reyes/delgado

  356. WrightsRight says:

    nice pick, carlos…

  357. metsfanmurph says:

Whats their problem? he was clearly out

  358. Ludacrispat says:

what were those fans booing about? he was clearly out once delgado picked that ball

PS- delgado is nasty at picking balls

  359. drodro22 says:

we’d be owning this game if it weren’t for OP….

  360. MainStMets says:

intereting that vargas will be gettin his 2nd AB in the 4th, reyes his 3rd already, means this guy sanchez hasnt been lights out, now 3rd time thru we rake him to even it up!

  361. Ludacrispat says:

any1 else watch the mets classic game today on SNY where Delgado absolutely crushed a ball off of Jorge Sosa and give the first-place Mets the lead?

    i wish i had a time machine

  362. EliPorter says:

    i respect vargas

  363. The Glider says:

Hey, what’s up with this “Bill R.” stuff? Bill Robinson? Huh?

    • gipper82475 says:

Re-read the posts from recent days.

Since the Wilpon/Willie meeting and the mets playing better/the benching of Delgado, etc, etc. People have been saying Willie WAS fired. They are now managed by Bill R.

As in Bill Randolph. Looks like former bad manager but manages much better.

Sadly, Ollie makes all managers look bad.

  364. NadyFan says:

As bad as OP was, the Giants are worse. They will find a way to lose this game!

  365. WrightsRight says:

tatis might’ve been caught napping on that called 3rd strike, but so far this game’s on Ollie. When he’s great – not too often – he’s great. But when he’s bad, he’s not just bad, he’s gutless. Even though he must care,. and must have some pitching savvy in the deepest depths of his brain, he leaves the impression that he’d rather be playing with his Star Wars figures or fingerpainting than pitching…

    • Ludacrispat says:

“When he’s great – not too often – he’s great. But when he’s bad, he’s not just bad, he’s gutless.”

that’s good for a game 7 (see perez, 2006, nlcs), but for an entire season its just a bad idea

  366. metsfanmurph says:

    Let’s go big head

  367. NadyFan says:

Don’t all walks eventually come around to score?

  368. MainStMets says:

oh man, nother inch that ball is in right

base knock here jose, chip chip

  369. metsfanmurph says:

I would rather have a starter who consistently throws strikes but doesn’t have great “stuff” than Perez who has great stuff but cannot put it together.

  370. miker94 says:

these giants announcers are the worst i’ve ever heard in my life. the one idiot just said to the other idiot, ” do you know why randy winn hits doubles?” the other guys says, “no why?” and the first retard says, “because his number is 2.” i want to hang myself listening to these fools

  371. metsfanmurph says:

    Tough break

  372. Ludacrispat says:

    LUIS

  373. MainStMets says:

    yea slappy!!!!!

    great hustle by castro

  374. Boooooo says:

bad play by SF… castro wouldve been nailed

    • MainStMets says:

think it wouldv been close, in battle of the bulge between castro/molina…castro knocks ball loose lol

yea another base runn, lets go c-los

  375. metsfanmurph says:

Haha I love watching Castro run

    • adam11216 says:

to use the old line about mo vaughn:
“it takes 4 base hits to get him home from first.”

  376. The Glider says:

Only 4 runs down. In the words of Hubie Brown: “Plenty of time, plenty of time.”

  377. adam11216 says:

    chippin’ away.

  378. MetsBroker1011 says:

    darkstar73:

I agree with you on it being a long season to complain with every loss…..BUT…… he has to show up and keep us in the game. Not give up 6 runs and getting 1 out. This can cripple out Bullpen as well.

Tonight wasn’t acceptable. I think you could have gotten out of the 1st inning!

    This is his contract year

    • Nate W. says:

Perez already had one start where he failed to get out of the 2nd inning, giving him the two shortest starts of the season, and both of his stinkers for the year. He has used up his quota of stinkers. Wanna bet he makes 20 more starts without another stinker? I sure dont.

    • darkstar73 says:

UGH, I have no problem with hating on Perez, jeese, look at what I said.

  379. Boooooo says:

    2 run dinger

  380. Ludacrispat says:

wow, the mets are playing the mets

  381. The Glider says:

    Yeah baby.

  382. Boooooo says:

here we go carlos here we go!!!

  383. metsfanmurph says:

    That was strange

  384. playmaker3128 says:

Cmon beltran, put one into the gap.

  385. miker94 says:

castillo is SOOOOOO much better from the right side. he should never bat lefty again

  386. NadyFan says:

    3-Run Dinger by Beltran…………………..I hope.

  387. Doc85 says:

    whos older, castillo or lautenberg?

  388. metsfanmurph says:

    I like the fight

  389. NadyFan says:

    Not

  390. Ludacrispat says:

    o man beltran-

another 2 left on- CMON GUYS LETS GO ITS 4 RUNS JEZUS CHRIST

  391. Nate W. says:

Castro’s slide almost didnt get to the plate… he must have gained a few pounds he wasnt aware of…

more stranded runners… 8 so far.

  392. Boooooo says:

come on carlos.. you have to get a hit there baby!!

  393. drodro22 says:

    i thought beltran was “hot”

  394. NadyFan says:

What’s that, like 8 men left on base already?

  395. Deja Vu with these guys — chances to score with runners on base, and they’re back on defense before ya know it with another wasted inning.

  396. MetsBroker1011 says:

    miker94 :

I agree bench his @ss againts righties. I don’t care how much we pay him. Put in Marlon Anderson or call up valentine. He is Drastically better.

How about not Switch Hitting anymore…

    • Nate W. says:

Anderson is on the DL and Valentine is managing in Japan… and his knees are worse than Castillo’s

  397. metsfanmurph says:

Can’t get a hit every time. Don’t forget Beltran won Saturday’s game for us.

  399. irishchris87 says:

Good news is Sanchez for another inning. He’s not very good. I was shocked to read that he has a bunch of quality starts.

Seems like the hitters get themselves out more than he gets them out.

Church, Tatis, Delgado next inning.. if we don’t get anything going I fear I might fall asleep.

  400. OrangEandBlue says:

Seriously guys, when do we start the Trade Oliver Perez chant. I mean every single day he makes the Nady trade even worse.

  401. Ludacrispat says:

pitches 1 and 2 to win were exactly in the same spot

  402. NadyFan says:

Omar panicked when Sanchez went down.

    • OrangEandBlue says:

I’d really rather have Nady’s offense than Perez’s pitching.
In hindsight that Hernandez and Perez trade for Nady is TERRIBLE.

    • darkstar73 says:

ok, while Ollie has been incredibly inconsistent this year and is a problem, he DID win 15 games for us last year and pitched very well for us down the stretch in ‘06 and in the playoffs. You can’t take that away and say now, 2 years later, the trade sucked.

      • gipper82475 says:

Darkstar is right on this one. Mixed bag trade.

If the Mets somehow pull out Game 7 in the LCS in 06 (and we all know they had ample chances), it’s all completely worth it.

      • metsfanmurph says:

How did Perez do when we needed him most last year?? He was plunking the Marlins pitcher while pitching us out of the playoffs.

        • gipper82475 says:

And where would we have been in 06 without Ollie (and even Roberto Hernandez?) Last year, no chance to Collapse if Ollie doesn’t pitch well most of the year.

Of course, we’d all take Nady back now for OP and are angry at OP’s mental defects. But, you have to acknowledge the historic good too.

  403. HOFMets57 says:

Nice play by Luis. Vargas is making his case…

    • OrangEandBlue says:

Claudio Vargas is making it much easier to remove Ollie from the starting rotation…

  404. MainStMets says:

dude vargas is cruising right now

1st inning took like 45 mins
theyve played 3 in the last 40 mins

  405. Flushing_is_Burning says:

when was Vargas’s last start? maybe he can throw about 80 pitches?

    • Nate W. says:

He’s working on 3 days of rest.

He threw 102 pitches in Colorado on 3 days rest.

  406. NadyFan says:

At least we haven’t seen any of those Stupid Jeter commercials!

  407. metsfanmurph says:

  408. Ludacrispat says:

why the hell is keith hernandez a spokesperson for coin gallery of oyster bay.

AND WHERE THE HELL IS GUISSEPE?

  409. Nate W. says:

Vargas has retired 9 batters on 36 pitches, Perez retired just 1 on 36 pitches. :-\

Sanchez is at 71 through 4, he’s got a chance to go 7 with another short inning.

  410. adam11216 says:

vargas’s performance is making ollie’s look even worse – if that’s possible.

  411. irishchris87 says:

Church isn’t seeing the ball well vs. Sanchez. He’s pretty late on the fastballs.

ugh, mets lefties cannot hit low breaking balls

this game is getting late early

  414. boosmakelittlesense says:

this is not at all on the offense yet….don’t forget the travel + being down 6 runs…the team is playing better but its not freaking superhuman….root for them to chip away…yes they have lost opportunities no doubt about it….but they still have some game left

    • metsfanmurph says:

please spare me with the travel

      • OrangEandBlue says:

Its Jonathan Sanchez and the Giants. The Mets should be winning. But of course, as Mets fans we chould know that sustaining success is not our speciality.

  421. Boooooo says:

    get on first you phag

  422. Ludacrispat says:

haha sry to say it but delgado’s face was priceless there…he was all like “”"eeeeeek!”

  423. metsfanmurph says:

Can we plunk HGH Rowand now?

  424. NadyFan says:

12 outs to score 5 runs to win. Possible………………..maybe.

  425. donwkim79 says:

Check Out the Umpire behind HOme Plate… He’s Huuuuge… I think that might be Great Khali behind the Plate….

    • NadyFan says:

Dude! you said that already. Why do you guys keep insisting on repeating yourselves! Geez.

does any1 have a picture of the infamous bill webb?

  427. Nate W. says:

    play manager…

do you PH for Vargas leading off next inning or leave him to get to the 8th?

just 40 pitches through 3 2/3 so far

    • Ludacrispat says:

PH- game is getting late and they are going to need him this trip

    • metsfanmurph says:

I would take Vargas out after this inning because you have to get some hits. We can’t give up outs down 4 runs.

    • The Glider says:

I’d let him go. Why waste the bullpen? Unless, of course, Willie wants to give Heilman some work. Beside, Vargas is keeping us in the game.

  428. WestCoastMets_since86 says:

PUT DELGADO ON THE DL NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t hope he’s hurt, thats just mean, but really, it would save face for him and really he needs to not be playing right now.

Even if he’s fine, they need to just lie and say he broke his hand. Really. For eveyones sake. Delgado’s too. C’mon guys…everyone knows what happens to the family dog eventually…

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

My dog is sitting right next to me and he’s very concerned about your post. I’m trying to convince him that nothing happens to the family dog eventually. He didn’t mean it, buddy. Nothing happens to the family dog eventually.

      OK, back to the game.

  429. MetsFan4Decades says:

Too bad Vargas didn’t start this game….

  430. Ludacrispat says:

idk what this performance by vargas says- just how good he is or just how bad perez is

  431. adam11216 says:

i hate rowand’s “taking a dump” batting stance.

  432. NadyFan says:

Pinch hit. You can’t win if you don’t score. basic math.

    • Nate W. says:

i agree, pen is well rested too, so they can handle today and tomorrow.

    • The Glider says:

We’re 4 runs down and Vargas is leading off. I’d keep him the game … he keeping us in the game.

      • Nate W. says:

well if I knew they were going to use Evans to PH I would have said let Vargas bat… no difference.

  433. gipper82475 says:

Remind me WHY the Mets would consider keeping Pelf in the rotation over Vargas and send Muniz down?

  434. donwkim79 says:

That is a Big Ass Home Plate Umpire… He looks like Friggin Jason or Michael Myers…. Geezzzzz…

  435. metsfanmurph says:

Why not keep Muniz, Vargas, and Pelfrey and see what Heilman can do as a starter in New Orleans?

  436. teufelshuffle86 says:

If only Vargas had started this game with a 0-0 score.

    • Nate W. says:

Even at 4-0 he would have given then a good chance. Mets would have had the tieing run on base three times already.

  437. metsfanmurph says:

I can’t tell the difference between Vargas’ swing and Evan’s swing

  438. EliPorter says:

    why take vargas out?

  439. NadyFan says:

If only I could win the lottery tonight.

  440. donwkim79 says:

  441. RockfordMetsFan says:

    Claudio Vargas,
    He’s our man.
    If Ollie can’t do it,
    Vargas can.

  442. Ludacrispat says:

NICK EVANS- WTF R U DOING SWINGING AT THAT- BACK TO BINGHAMTON FOR YOU

  443. NadyFan says:

Ever hear of the term “dear caught in headlights?”

    • gipper82475 says:

NO – I mean if you are catching your dear in your headlights, you’re looking at least at vehicular manslaughter charges!

Now, a “deer in the headlights” IS the appropriate phraseology to describe Evans’s last swing in that AB.

      • KinersKornerman says:

        Gip, could be justifiable homicide.

You are being quite the spelling cop today. I normally respect that, but this was a bit harsh.

Still laughing over the bumb thing, though. That was great.

        • Boooooo says:

funny how bumb is the actual word though, unless we are talking about gips moms rear..

        • KinersKornerman says:

Dude, look it up somewhere. Google, M-W.com, dictionary.com

you’re looking worse by justifying it.

  444. The Glider says:

Boy, pinch hitting for Vargas worked out well.

  445. donwkim79 says:

Nick Evans = Needs to Go down to AA right NOOOOOW…

  446. metsfanmurph says:

Send Evans down and bring up Stache or Danny Murphy. Evans is awful, I don’t think he has even gotten a hit since his first game.

  447. Ludacrispat says:

gotta love the fight in this team

  448. Ludacrispat says:

what was that- 11 pitches? go mets

    • TheIcon says:

They lose this game, it’s more on the lack of offense than OP. They’ve had their chances to come back against a below average pitcher.

      • The Glider says:

        Correct . . . again.

      • WrightsRight says:

It’s both, but I blame OP more. That was as pathetic performance as I’ve ever seen – well, at least since his start vs. Pittsburgh…

    • Nate W. says:

they got Sanchez up to 100 pitches through 6. So that should be his last inning.

55 through first 3, 45 tthrough second 3. They didnt let up on him at all really. Nice job by the offense of making him work and getting men on base. Terrible job leaving them on base though…

  449. metsfanmurph says:

I had a good feeling about a Giuseppe Franco commercial

  450. Nate W. says:

I think they may keep all of the pitchers and just swap Evans for Pedro.

They dont need a 5th OF / 4th 1B who cant even make contact.

  451. NadyFan says:

I hate the Phillies as most of you do, but I get the feeling the Phillies would put up much more of a fight than our boys are showing now.

  454. Flushing_is_Burning says:

but, LET’S GO METS, we are a grand lam away from tying this.

  455. RockfordMetsFan says:

    Little Nickie Evans
    Willie thinks he’s great
Sends him out to pinch hit
But he can’t find the plate

    Sit down already

  456. Ludacrispat says:

and there goes our chance of a comeback

    never mind about muniz

can we just send the whole goddam team down?

    CALL UP THE ZEPHYRS

  457. Nate W. says:

Muniz now doing well at showing why he shouldn’t be sent down..

  458. MetsFanInVegas says:

I’m stuck seeing Ollie pitch Saturday in San Diego. He better have a much better game this weekend.

  459. Ludacrispat says:

sanchez staying in? is dusty still managing the giants

  460. NadyFan says:

Boy I hope they win tomorrow and have a successful road trip. If they get slammed on this road trip I will hate to see the reaction when they come home. We’ll be right back again calling for willie’s head and the media having a field day. Circus No. 2

Is there any end to this madness. Will we ever get to 10 games over .500?

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

“Will we ever get to 10 games over .500?”

Maybe not. I’ve supported this team through it’s best and worst years, and if this is one of the bad ones then that’s the way it goes some years.

      • NadyFan says:

I don’t mind when a team is bad when they’re supposed to be bad like small market teams with 40Million payrolls, but this is the team with the highest payroll in the NL . Not That I care, it’s not my money, but this is NY ($140 Million) and this team was built to win now!

        • darkstar73 says:

see the ‘02-’04 seasons for $100+ million payrolls that were FAR worse then this year. Funny how people forget about that so quickly. Frankly though, money has nothing to do with this. this team has always had a high payroll, but when have we ever been consistently good? Never, so why does it suddenly change now? We should be winning not because of money, but because we have talent.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Well we’ve seen that before too though. On paper the team in 92 should have been better than The Worst Team Money Could Buy. It happens. I’m not even saying it’s happening this year, but it might. The biggest concern I have is that we’re never really going to see the whole team at any time this season. There’s always going to be at least someone on the DL if not more than just someone. This team is just too damn old. It could very well come back to bite them in the behind.

  461. Ludacrispat says:

HAHAHAH VERY FITTING BOYS VERY FITTING

  462. WrightsRight says:

well i guess muniz just bought his ticket….let’s get ‘em tomorrow….

  463. Nate W. says:

    well thats good night

  464. MainStMets says:

    goodnight all

let the fire willie posters start up again by sun rise on the east coast

  465. gipper82475 says:

    Ugh/

    G’night Irene!

  466. WrightsRight says:

Is it me or does it seem that Philly has played their entire season at home…every time I see a highlight of their’s, it’s in Philly and Utley is hitting a HR…

  467. Nate W. says:

ok then, Muniz down for Pedro, Evans down for Alou.

  468. stickguy says:

I still like Muniz, but with the uncertainty in the rotation (like, can Pedro pitch every fifth day?) they are probably better off with Vargas and Pelfrey both up.

Miniz down (temporarily maybe), Vargas to the pen when not part of a 6 man rotation.

Ollie gets electro shock therapy before the next game.

    Evans down for Alou.

I haven’t been watching, but I assume Delgado is still in the game? The DL talk was just a fantasy?

  469. MainStMets says:

oh yay zito tom. night, hmmm hell go 8ip, 2 hits 1 run, mets lose

  470. EliPorter says:

now the games over- there was no need to take out vargas if willie was going to pinch hit for him with nick evans. you might be better off pinch hitting with johan. im not going to bash this evans kid- he could contribute down the road, but right now, he has no business on a mlb team

    • Nate W. says:

but if they didnt PH for him they couldnt put Muniz in this no win situation…

  471. Boooooo says:

    gipper is a queer

    • gipper82475 says:

      Homophobic non-sequitor of the night.

      • Boooooo says:

hey, im gonna stay up all night in moms basement and correct spelling errors on a mets blog..

that sounds like a typical friday night for you gipper not a monday..

on monday you should be playing bridge with your grandmother while you tivo two and a half men..

        get a life you queer

        • gipper82475 says:

          Lovely.

I wasn’t the only one to point out the hilarity of “bumbs.” It still makes me laugh.

How would a lack of ignorance and/or a mastery of 2rd grade spelling equal “alternative lifesyle” even in that rather miniscue brain of yours?

BTW, I don’t know how to play bridge. And the classic 1907 two-bedroom condo I share with my girlfriend has no basement, per se. Furthermore, it is located approximately 2,800 miles from my parents’ place.

Oh, and both my grandmas are dead. Classy.

Finally, it is Monday night, not Friday.

        • Boooooo says:

because BUMB is the way you spell the word you MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • KinersKornerman says:

C’mon, Boooo, this isn’t working out for you.

Dictionary.com search revealss “No results found for bumb.” and “19 results for: bum”

btw, Gipper is far from a moron, seriously.

      • itsmetsforme says:

he got you on the two and a half men!!

  472. D in Ben Lomond says:

Not that I want to defend ollie. But I live out here in the bay area and the wind really kicked up around sunset for about 45 minutes. Directly out of the west… ie, from behind home. Notice the ball stopped carrying…

  473. RockfordMetsFan says:

It’s Heilman time. Why not lose by 1 touchdown when you can lose by 2?

  474. NadyFan says:

Are you the president of the Ollie Perez Fan club?

    • donwkim79 says:

No he is the Chairman of The Board of Ollie Perez Fan Club Corporation…

    • RockfordMetsFan says:

Nope. Can’t stomach it when Perez pitches. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to his pitching. There is always a dread of impending doom when he starts.

However, you do need a sense of humor during blowouts. Otherwise you won’t get through the season without having a major depressive episode. (I happen to be a licensed counselor who deals a lot with grief and loss issues.). I’ve been a diehard Mets fan for over 40 years, and still have my sanity, except when Perez pitches.

  475. stickguy says:

If Muniz goes another, that is a pretty good sign he is going down.

  476. EliPorter says:

whoever wrote that each mets loss will take on its own personality until the mets are in first or 15 games above .500 was dead on.

  477. D in Ben Lomond says:

nope. perez should be moved to the minors or bullpen. just saying he picked the wrong day to be close to the plate.

Mets missed an opp by not lifting one up into the jet stream that first inning. sanchez was smart, keeping the ball down…

  478. TurboDan says:

I’m still up on Muniz. This game is just a disaster in general.

  479. Boooooo says:

come on david.. not you too

  480. D in Ben Lomond says:

    whats the lineup tomorrow?

I’d like to see Willie put Chavez in left in place of Tatis, and Evans or Easley at first. Gotta help pedro go as far as he can.

    • Nate W. says:

Tatis and Easley should play agiainst Zito. Evans shouldnt be here tomorrow, though I think he will be.

They should send down Muniz and Evans, activate Pedro and call up Tim McNab to replace Muniz/Vargas as the long man.

  481. bluecapsonly says:

I Hate it when Willie gives up, 6 runs is not impossible, after Muniz gave up those 2 hits this inning he should have been out of there.

  482. Boooooo says:

nice heilman in with bases loaded..

    hmmmmmm

grand salami, trip to NO, mets nation rejoices???

  483. playmaker3128 says:

Ok well tonight obviously wasn’t the way we wanted to start this road trip. Perez’s performance and the long flight and going down 6 in the first inning wasn’t going to be a winning formula. Lets take the next two. For us right now its important to win series. We got pedro going tommarow.

  484. Nate W. says:

Heilman with the bases loaded? They really dont like Muniz do they? :P

  485. bluecapsonly says:

I don’t get it, Willie already gave up, Muniz should finish this game. We all know he is the one getting sent down. Why waste another arm. At this point who cares if the Giants score any more runs

    • Nate W. says:

Muniz is a rookie, you cant leave him out there scuffliing like that. He’s thrown 40 pitches, you dont want to push a reliever much past that in most cases. And they would have PH for Muniz after one more out anyway. It was the right move to make.

      • bluecapsonly says:

exactly, that move should have been made 4 batters ago. After he gave up the first 2 hits with 1 out.

  486. Kugaa says:

    ace heilman to the rescue

  487. shiprdr19 says:

Vargas should remain in the rotation.

  488. playmaker3128 says:

At this point we’ll fall 4.5 back of the phillies. Were also 4.5 back of the wild card. The way the phils are playing lately we gotta continue to play well or we’ll be playing for the wild card the 2nd half. I still think if we play anywhere close to what were capable of playing that we should get at least the wild card. Plenty of season left.

Also on perez. He came out throwing mid 80’s tonight for whatever reason. He just didn’t have it. He’s gotta figure out something quick, because he might be taking over the spot of least reliable starter in our rotation. Good thing pedro’s coming back tommarow, hopefully he can give us a quality outing.

  489. Boooooo says:

heilman looking good right now.. he should be put back in the setup role ASAP!!!

  490. Boooooo says:

can heilman be sent down tonight?

  491. grotesmask says:

Heilman’s in…Boy, does that feel good!

Good hitting Mets against awesome SF staff!

  492. dominicanboy08 says:

mets should freddy garcia, he should be a solid #4 for us,mets cant continue to count on perez and pelfrey

  493. Kugaa says:

my be an 8 run 9th

  494. bluecapsonly says:

wow, I can’t believe he got out of that

  495. Koko says:

I hope Wagner lets one out on Perez again. This loss is solely on Perez. Yes the offense was bad, but it is completely demoralizing when you go out there see your #3 pitcher give up 6 runs in 0.1 innings.

Perez continues to cost him (and Scott Boras) multi-millions. . .

    • drodro22 says:

amen…….honestly, you cant expect guys who literally flew all night to really be at their best when the guy who FLEW A DAY EARLIER AND WASN”T EXHAUSTED completely sh*t the bed…..I like the Mets more than I like the possibility of beating Philly or ATL, and therefore, I really would have no problem trading Ollie…..Wait till the deadline, and then have people line up needing a pitcher…..Is Oliver Perez really going to win us the NL East? I like Ollie, and last year he was great, but his entire career has been like this, one good year, one terrible……It’s not worth it…..Then you take those pieces you get from him, and use it for Jason Bay…..

  496. dominicanboy08 says:

well, lets take the next two with pedro and maine pitching

  497. The Glider says:

It’s time for all good Mets’ fans – especially those living on EST – to let this loss go and go to bed and their rest. For tomorrow night Pedro “Michaelangelo” Martinez will pitch a masterpiece for 6 innings.

    Sweet dreams.
