postGame: Giants 10 Mets 2

by Matthew Cerrone on June 3rd, 2008 at 1:03 am

The Mets (28–28) lost to the Giants (25–33) by the score of 10 to 2 in San Francisco tonight.

For a recap, boxscore, stats, etc., go to SNY.tv.

This game was essentially over the minute Oliver Perez stepped to the mound, as he allowed six runs on five hits and two walks before being pulled from the game with just one out in the first inning.  That was basically it.

However, in case you missed it:

Oliver Perez was all over the place in the first inning, grooving fastballs that never cracked 90 mph; Claudio Varags pitched well in relief, before being pulled for a pinch hitter; the Mets left the bases loaded in the first inning; oddly, Carlos Delgado continues to play nice defense; Delgado was later hit on the hand by an inside fastball; Jose Reyes tied a team record by reaching base in his 33rd straight game; Ryan Church had two outfield assists, tying him with Xavier Nady for most in the NL; Neither Aaron Heilman nor Carlos Muniz pitched well in mop-up duty; and, lastly, and most importantly, the Mets clearly need sleep.

The Mets continue their three-game series with the Giants tomorrow night in San Francisco at 10 pm EDT, with Pedro Martinez taking on Barry Zito.
