preGame: Mets at Padres (Game Two)
By Mike Nichols - Jun 6, 2008 9:31 pm

The Game:

The Mets (30-29) continue their three-games series versus the Padres (25-37) tonight at Petco Park in San Diego, starting at 10:05 pm EST.

The Lineup:

According to John Delcos of the Journal News, Ryan Church is not in tonight’s lineup as Willie Randolph stated Church needs to ‘build up his stamina and leg endurance,’ and not due to side effect from his recent concussion.

The Pitchers:

LHP Johan Santana (7-3, 3.20 ERA) starts for the Mets. Santana was stellar in his last start on June 1 versus the Dodgers allowing one run on six hits over 7.2 IP while walking three and striking out six. The Mets are 8-1 in Santana’s last nine starts. He 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA in two career starts versus the Padres.

LHP Randy Wolf (3-4, 4.33 ERA) takes the hill for the Padres. In his last start on June 1 versus the Giants, Wolf earned a no-decision allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five over 6.0 IP. Wolf is 9-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 25 career starts versus the Mets.

    O.K. – LET’S GO METS !!
Go get ‘em tonight, boys. Yesterday was yesterday…..

    • nomoredelgado says:

the mets are terrible. i hate it but it’s true. not terrible really, but painfully mediocre

      • fivepointspro says:

Does anyone here think that Castillo is such a liability to the Mets????

Boy does this guy scream to go down to the minors. He really is done. Never the same castillo that everyone knew 3yrs ago…

Everyone complains about Delgado, but Castillo also has lost touch with his offense.

        • wrightstuff08 says:

hey you piece of s***, go back to beerleaguer and je*k off your philthy buddies!! Oh by the way, it shows your courage to post on our site by hiding it at the first of the pregame preview where nobody reads the next day. coward

        • stone11375 says:

are you serious. that was so stupid i dont know where to begin. lets start with the 86 comment, which, and correct me if I’m mistaken, is a little more recent than your 80 world series. oh, and what’s that i see? only one? aww, thats a shame. congrats on having a team that needs the first place team to have a major collapse to get the opportunity to get swept in the first round of the playoffs by a team that previously had won all of one playoff game in the franchise’s history. really, just a beautiful accomplishment. You know you belong at beerleaguer cause to say something so just amazingly idiotic you must be drunk. welcome to reality

  2. EliPorter says:

lefty starter… is that why church isnt in the lineup?

  3. dominicanboy08 says:

delgado not in the lineup, great!!!!

  4. TurboDan says:

Ugh, no Church. This is the strangest-handled injury I’ve ever seen. First, the pinch-hitting appearances, then the DL, not off the DL and some “leg stamina” excuse. Can this organization level with the fans and be honest about the condition of players once in a while?

  5. Jay says:

I think they’re going to take this one. I’m feeling the small ball today baby. Three runs should do it.

  6. dominicanboy08 says:

santana should dominate this lineup, lets go mets!!!

  7. bootlegga24 says:

    awesome lineup

  8. TurboDan says:

This should be a genuinely good game. While I love Mets blowouts, I also love working hard and playing small ball to get an honest win. Let’s take this series – that’s what it’s all about!

  9. bootlegga24 says:

castro should be playing against the lefty. Santana should be batting 5th in this lineup

  10. meme says:

    This site censors political ideas.

    • KinersKornerman says:

      Yes it does, thankfully.

      • EliPorter says:

why are you talking politics on a frickin mets website? and i saw you are endorsing obama- do you think anyone here is going to take what you say seriously? if anything, you are alienating middle of the road voters with your retardation. please keep your political thoughts to yourself

  11. KinersKornerman says:

I don’t mind taking it easy on Church. Head injuries are serious business. However, Tatis in left is scary.

  12. meme says:

• EliPorter says:

      jesus christ

      • novanoto says:

right on eli, right on…meme…cummon, take your garbage somewhere else

        • shortstop says:

This blog needs a good housecleaning. It’s pretty tough to go through 400+ comments and find that only 20 have any substance at all. Philadelphia doesn’t have the market cornered on all the idiots.

      • TobeRinkler says:

        Is he running, too?

    • Meme,

The political right/left matchup doesn’t have any domain here. Here the only matchup that matters is the lefty/lefty matchup. Please go preach your beliefs and bad vocabulary on another site or your middle school friends.

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Dude, I love Obama. Goin to work for him over the summer and would love nothing more than to see him elected.

But please, for the love of god, STOP! Your not helping and either way, your views really dont have a place on this site.

      • TobeRinkler says:

Heartily but partially seconded (supporting all but the words from “and either way…” to the end).

  14. TheIcon says:

    Hey Mike, it’s a four-game series.

  15. TheIcon says:

That was not a good way to start the game.

  16. Jay says:

Cmon man… thats just not acceptable!

  17. EliPorter says:

luis should be benched for that… no excuse in the world

    • Hernandez_1B says:

I agree…..bench his a$$……Rollins was benched for not hustling to first the other day and Rollins is way more valuable to the Phils that Luis is to the Mets.

    • KFS says:

unfortunately, that would mean bringing Delcrapo in the game to shift Easley over to 2B.

      • Hernandez_1B says:

Or just put Nunez in…….It’s more to make a point to Luis than anything else. This isn’t the first time he has done something like that in the field

  18. MetsFan4Decades says:

Difference between good and great. Santana doesn’t let the error rattle him. He does what he has to do to get out of the inning with no runs scored. Nice job, Johan…..

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Or should I say ‘mental mistake’ . Shoulda been an error. Castillo should have gotten that first out.

  19. metsfanatic says:

Did Lastings leave that doorknocker cross in the steam room and Santana found it?

  20. mackey says:

is that lindsay buckingham behind homeplate with the padres jersey on? in the 2nd row.

  21. Gina says:

I forgot Randy Wolfe throws like 30 mph. that doesn’t bode well for us.

  22. EliPorter says:

weve scored one run in the last 16 innings….

  23. MetsFan4Decades says:

I cannot believe the Mets offense is going to pick up where they left off last night….

  24. bootlegga24 says:

do you guys think wolf is gonna throw a perfect game or just a no hitter?

  25. Gina says:

3 innings, 39 pitches from Wolfe. That’s horrible.

  26. Gasface77 says:

I don’t watch any other teams regularly Are there any other teams that could be so on one night and so off the next? Is it me, or are the Mets strangely inconsistent…from game to game and even within games. They can score 5 runs in the first inning and then get three hits the rest of the game. They can win 5 out of 6 and be on fire, then look completely dead. What is it?

  27. chipdomains82 says:

Let’s hope Keith doesn’t mention anything about women in the dugout during this series like 2 years ago in San Diego

    • TobeRinkler says:

That was classic! I couldn’t believe he was saying what he was saying! Ay yi yi yi yi.

  28. Bogar says:

Braves’ Kelly Johnson drops the final out popup in the 9th, so instead the Phils tie the game.

Now they lead 4-2 in the 10th.

  29. EliPorter says:

johan has had some great defensive center fielders behind him… frickin phillies up 4-2

  30. KinersKornerman says:

somebody tell that wan’t a 3 pitch inning by Wolf

  31. dominicanboy08 says:

    4 pitches, cmon!!!!

  32. miker94 says:

what the F%#K is wrong with this team????

  33. Bogar says:

Phils just won 4-3 as Victorino threw out the tying run at the plate.

    • EliPorter says:

theyve won in every way possible… clutch hitting, fielding… close games, blowouts… they are the cream of the crop in the NL east

      • KinersKornerman says:

Dude, you sound like you should be posting on Beeleaguer.

        • therealsince86 says:

Well right now they are, but no one in their right mind can expect them to continue to win games the way they have been.

  34. the Straw says:

whats it gonna take to get our pitchers some run support??

  35. metsfanatic says:

    Endy! Endy! Endy!

  36. the Straw says:

here we go a little small ball here. lets get a run.

  37. the Straw says:

OH JOHAN doesnt look too happy.

    Im expecting retaliation for sure.

  38. EliPorter says:

oh my god.. not you, endy!

  39. OrangEandBlue says:

Guys, if Santana goes down, we are in trouble. That ball clearly hit Santana’s shoulder. Someone on the Padres has to be hit now. I say you wait and bring Wagner in in the ninth and aim for Adrian Gonzalez’s head.

  40. metsfanatic says:

    Take Wolf’s head off!

    • OrangEandBlue says:

Not Wolf, you take Adrian Gonzalez. I cannot believe Keith though that ball was fouled off. I could tell from the television that Johan got hit directly on the shoulder.

  41. the Straw says:

IM kind of surprised reyes couldnt score on that ball.

  42. bootlegga24 says:

Im expecting the infield to be covered in blood after this inning

  43. AlreadyMissShea says:

The idea that Santana should retaliate here is moronic. The runs aren’t exactly coming easy in this series. Just win the game and move on.

    • therealsince86 says:

      Exactly.

    • darkstar73 says:

you don’t retaliate in a 1 run game, that is stupid

    • bootlegga24 says:

      but this is really boring

      • darkstar73 says:

every game is a new experience, if we’re in the game, i can’t understand how it would be boring, the only games I find boring are when we are getting blown out, well, probably just more frustrating. How is a game we’re winning boring?

      • TheIcon says:

If you find this game boring, you don’t like baseball.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I love these kind of games. In theory the Mets should be beating up on this team, but if they win this one tonight 2-1 I will not be sorry I stayed home and stayed up to watch it. I love it. Just win it. :)

        • bootlegga24 says:

maybe its just boring on gamecast

        • therealsince86 says:

Do you think a brawl would be more exciting on gamecast? All kinds of little dots running on to the field?

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

OK, now THAT is a funny post. Nicely done.

        • bootlegga24 says:

haha no but i would run to the tv if i heard there was a brawl

      • therealsince86 says:

Go watch hockey or boxing. Friday night smack down. This is baseball. I for one enjoy a good pitchers duel now and then.

    • KinersKornerman says:

Agreed. retaliation might get you a loss AND a suspension.

      • TheIcon says:

Again, I don’t think there is any reason for retaliation. And think about the consequences if there is. Just plain dumb to even think about it.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I don’t think it ever crossed Johan’s mind anyway. When it’s time to protect one of the guys on his team, he’ll do it. But for this? I think he can just file it under “Part of the Game” and move on. The guy is as professional as they come. Johan Santana is one of the few pitchers I know of that can just as easily get even with his BAT later in the game as well his with his arm.

  44. EliPorter says:

why retaliate? its a close game and you dont want to put runners on base. and if its an issue of protecting your 136 million man, dont you think youre endangering him more by potentially having a gigantic angry man like gonzalez charge the mound?

as for the game, this is just too frustrating. i dont know why i do this to myself every day

  45. darkstar73 says:

ok, so they scored, but what exactly happened on that infeild single the play before that? I can’t watch the game.

    • EliPorter says:

johan no longer can get the big strikeout when he needs it

      • EliPorter says:

ground ball, ball hit the runner going from 1st to 2nd.. by rule, its considered a hit. neither runner advanced

    • darkstar73 says:

damn it, santana can’t finish these guys off, what is going on? anyone want to help me out with some of the details?

      • therealsince86 says:

Santana has came unglued after trying to get an out at 3rd instead of getting the easy out.

    • Boooooo says:

santana had the guy at third and made a bad throw and got no one

  46. Boooooo says:

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Heilman is up in the pen!!!!!

  47. teufelshuffle86 says:

    F*UUUUUUCK!

  48. haplo says:

So we’ve still turned it around, right?

    • darkstar73 says:

i knew it’d be like this, we play well for a stretch, lose on game, get down in the next game, and the team sucks and the season is over all over again. Why do you guys hang around? Why put yourself through the misery? Man, if the only reason I watched and payed attention to baseball was for winning, I probably wouldn’t be a fan.

      • haplo says:

Why put yourself through the misery?

Why do you put yourself through the misery of typing a reply? You guys are having so much fun watching this mediocre mess of a team, I would think the effort you put into thought policing everybody would bring you down.

        • darkstar73 says:

did i say i was having “so much fun” watching us lose? And as for the “thought police” thing, grow a pair and engage in an argument if you can’t handle it, just don’t put words in my mouth.

        • haplo says:

grow a pair and engage in an argument if you can’t handle it, just don’t put words in my mouth.

LOL, you really want to say that after that “the Mets must win every single game” strawman you pulled today?

    • therealsince86 says:

If we come back and win, will you not post anymore? If so I will drive up and take out the Padres players myself.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Maybe, maybe not. We’ll know more about this team at the trade deadline, because they will have played seven more games with the Phillies right at that time, and there aren’t going to be any blockbuster moves to be made. This is our team. They’re either going to win or they’re not. I think as a franchise they have played something like .478 baseball, so most of us aren’t here to swap stories of all those dominant seasons. If you’re a Mets fan, you just have to love them for whatever they are, even if you curse your older relatives for ever making you a fan in the first place.

  49. EliPorter says:

the offense is going to take a nap. 2-1 final score

  50. Boooooo says:

this offense is so fn shaky…

sleep walking through games yet again.

Sometimes its just so hard to watch

I would like to think the mets can score another run here, but my gut tells me it will be hard to come by…

tatis schneider, pinch hitter, than 4 more runs for the pads when heimlich comes in

    • OrangEandBlue says:

That first pitch against Tatis right there was not a strike. What is up with these umpires?

    • therealsince86 says:

Why is it that when you can’t hit you are “sleepwalking” through a game? Ever think our bats are just cold, or the pitchers are good or that we just can’t hit?

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

The Hall of Fame is filled with guys who sleepwalked through 70% of their at bats. ;)

    • OrangEandBlue says:

Boooo, the Mets are relying too much on injured players. Wright, Reyes, and the rest of the Mets still have the “we are not clicking on all cylinders” attitude that they hope will turn around whe Alou, El Duque, Pagan, and Marlon Anderson return. The Mets are an old team and these players will go down. With Delgado in a sharp decline, the Mets still refuse to believe that he is doing more than struggling.

The only way the Mets start hitting consistently is when the Mets get rid of players with a track record of being injury prone.

      • therealsince86 says:

Why do you think the Mets refuse to believe that he is in decline? He is sitting more than ever, it’s just there is no one to replace him.

  51. teufelshuffle86 says:

Gotta score here to get Santana off the schnide!

  52. Boooooo says:

tatis is a real threat up there..

i hope moises alou goes bankrupt and ends up homeless with only his chewing tobacco and ben gay to kep him company

    • therealsince86 says:

Why the hate on Alou? He’s old, it’s not like he is lazy or has declining skill. He’s just old.

      • darkstar73 says:

these people are all immature and really don’t have a sense of the world outside of them, they come on here to be narcissistic because in their own lives, they aren’t given a chance and don’t want to portray themselves as the assholes they are on this site.

  53. KGrules says:

Mets are a .500 team…..win some games…then lose some games….We are all a bunch of losers for even bothering to watch this garbage on a friday night at midnight . This team is lucky to finish in third this year.

PS- The Love affair with Tatis is over….

  54. Boooooo says:

great.. a 12th string catcher is going to hit for santana

  55. EliPorter says:

the mets fan is in the worst position… we cant enjoy our wins because we expect them, and when we lose, its totally devastating. add to that the phillies never lose, and its a recipe for perpetual frustration

    • OrangEandBlue says:

I refuse to believe that this is not the Mets year, but the idea is creeping in there.

  56. Boooooo says:

why woulnt castro be hitting here???is he hurt?

  57. KinersKornerman says:

mentally weak? your ace gets aniled in the shoulder and then warriors it out for another inning. The sac fly by Wright is a grand slam anywhere else. Beltran is catching everything that comes within a mile of him. This is an outstanding game. Not weak at all.

    • OrangEandBlue says:

Kiner, dont you think its a bit odd when the Mets are hitting too many line drives for outs (Beltran), they have not hit a grand slam in over a year and today Wright hits one deep in the only park where it would not be a 4-bagger. Maybe this is not a coincidence anymore. Maybe this is just, the Mets.

      • KinersKornerman says:

not sure exactly what you saying, but this is why baseball is so freking interesting. Maybe the Pads fans are thinking they have no luck b/c two runners were hit by grounders on two straight games. And what are Braves fans thinking tonite with the tying run thrown out at home. This is baseball. Crap happens.

  58. teufelshuffle86 says:

Almost forgot that Tatis hit 2 grand slams in the same inning off the same pitcher with the Cardinals. 8 RBI in one inning. :D

  59. teufelshuffle86 says:

…and who is this guy and why is he batting for the Mets?

  60. Ludacrispat says:

wtf is cancel swinging at there? jesus christ this team sucks

  61. the Straw says:

and why not pinch run for schneider with a pitcher or something . you already got cancel in the game anyway. he can stay in and catch.

  62. teufelshuffle86 says:

Why is it that we all hear about these “prospects” the Mets have and the last two guys they’ve sent up are Robinson Cancel and Abe Nunez?

  63. EliPorter says:

sorry but when you pinch hit with a piece of sh-t like robinson cancel (WHO!?), you just cant expect to win. why not use church, delgado, or castro?

    • Boooooo says:

lefty lefty and i think castro is hurting.. not sure though

      • jack mcfadden says:

that’s like mr. burns pinch hitting homer for darryl strawberry because he’s “playing the percentages.”

  64. Boooooo says:

come on jose.. please get a damn single..

    please

    please

    please

  65. teufelshuffle86 says:

    que la chinga?

  66. EliPorter says:

    robinson cancel: 31 years old

8 hits in 45 career at bats… this is the guy we want up in a 2-1 game with runners on 1st and 2nd

  67. therealsince86 says:

There is no way I would pitch to Jose here.

  68. Boooooo says:

come on luis… please get a damn ingle

    please

    please

    please

  69. Ludacrispat says:

    DONT SWING LUIS

  70. Boooooo says:

at a minimum i wouldve hit nunez..

  71. Boooooo says:

    FAKE BUNT???? no way!!!!

bases loaded, and he is faking a bunt

    • Ludacrispat says:

he wanted for it to go 3-0 calm down

    • andyglass1 says:

c’mon the bat is a lethal weapon in this guy’s hands. he can slap hits between the pitcher & catcher, the pitcher & 3b, the pitcher & SS, the pitcher & 2b, etc…

let’s cut him some slack – for a week or two he was stinging the ball & actually had a full season’s worth of HR’s. One more and he is on pace to effin shatter his single season record !

  72. EliPorter says:

    i despise this team

  73. EliPorter says:

ladies and gentlemen, AARON HEILMAN is coming in to pitch… go to sleep

  74. Boooooo says:

    LATER BOYS..

Time for another team meeting and possible willie firing.. lol

  75. SixtyNineEightySix says:

Oh F&*K THAT! Is Castro hurt? Why was Cancel up there? Why, why WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY…who the hell is Robinson Cancel and is he some 60s television character?

  76. OrangEandBlue says:

“Oh well, don’t worry. When Moises Alou returns, Ryan Church gets healthy, when Delgado starts to hit, when Marlon comes back, when Oliver Perez becomes consistent, and when Pelfrey can throw pitches for strikes the Mets will be successful again.”

    - says the entire Mets team.

  77. miker94 says:

    castillo = rally killer …AGAIN!

    • sjdeppe says:

well said…Willie = Insane…continuing to put castillo out there and expecting a different result

  78. Ryan Synagogue says:

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

  79. EliPorter says:

tomorrow oliver perez is pitching. hooray!! and the opposing pitcher is a guy weve never seen before…. can you say sweep?

  80. Boooooo says:

robinsons cancel, tatis easley schneider AND chavez..

And we are wondering why we have not scored

And hey, an asian dude is pitching tommorow against the mental case.. guess thats a loss too, as we know how well the mets hit asian dudes.

  81. WrightsRight says:

Don’t worry…we got Heilman pitching now, Ollie tomorrow, and the Phillies are playing terribly…everything is golden.

  82. SixtyNineEightySix says:

I’ve been soft on Willie for a long time. Defended him against his enemy fan base since Day One. Goodbye…please get rid of this joker….Robinson Cancel….really, c’mon now. I’d prefer Johan swing the bat w no regard for ongoing pitching need. Seriously.

    • EliPorter says:

willies decision to use cancel is grounds to be fired. how dare this piece of sh-t use a scrub like that in a huge spot? does he not value his job? oh wait, nothing he does will result in the loss of his job. a sexual assault case, a boat party, 3 race related comments, and 14 game losing streak wouldnt get him fired

  83. wa2k99 says:

    Bell 1-2-3, Hoffman 1-2-3

  84. methead says:

you cant get a big hit all the time. Jes people. That doesnt make them gutless. The problem in this inning is why is cancel pinch hitting?

  85. Boooooo says:

hey whats that smell? a leadoff walk and a 3 spot

  86. sjdeppe says:

Valentin better take the starting role and 2nd when healthy….Castillo is absolutely terrible and its ridiculous how Willie keeps putting him in the 2 spot…..

  87. OrangEandBlue says:

“Don’t worry, we still first in the NL East.”

-stupid Mets fan from last year that were and still are idiotically optimistic.

  88. WrightsRight says:

Mets have Cancel….Phillies have Greg “Grand Slam” Dobbs… that’s all you need to know…

  89. Ryan Synagogue says:

Well thats it for me. Im tired of staying up late for this ****.

Oh I wish, I wish for a clutch hit at the dish

  90. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Beltran = Awesome
    Simple as that.

  91. teufelshuffle86 says:

I mean seriously….when are we gonna unload this guy?

    • OrangEandBlue says:

Who? The Mets need to get rid of (in order of importance)
Carlos Delgado, Oliver Perez, Aaron Heilman, Luis Castillo, and Moises Alou.

When the Mets get rid of these players they will win.

  92. Boooooo says:

im starting to want the team to sucj again so we can dump this crap mgmt staff and all our old junk and have a good year in 2009..

otherwise we are just going to hang around 500 all year and lose yet another chance at a ring..

starting to feel like it was 2006 or bust.

And of corse, beltran saves the day for heilman the homer sexual

  93. mets19 says:

This game was lost when David Wright’s bomb was robbed and we only got 1 run out of that inning.

How can we lose to the padres with Johan on the mound? I’m really losing confidence and hope with this team.

  94. SixtyNineEightySix says:

I am now obsessed with Robinson Cancel hitting in that spot. I will remember this until my dying day. Seems that our manager does not understand when and where the big spots in a game are. Wonderful.

    Dear NY Mets Organization,

    Please fire Willie Randolph immediately.

    Yours Truly,

    A long-time, kool-aid-drinking fan.

    • WrightsRight says:

not willie’s fault that of the farm system is so empty of any quality players that someone like Cancel is the only guy they can bring up…

      • dave27 says:

Isn’t Cancel here so CASTRO could hit in that spot?

        • therealsince86 says:

Maybe something is going on with Castro. Would you not have expected him to be in the game to start with? Maybe that is why we are carrying 3 catchers.

        • Boooooo says:

agreed.. had to be… i mean hes been healthy for a week.. isnt it time he had a break?

  95. meatloaf says:

I want Omar fored for one simple reason…….Luis Castillo. If I see him take one more pitch I am going to castrate myself. He gets a 2-0 meatball of a fastball and he is taking all the way? WITH THE BASES LOADED? I am going to bed. I can’t believe I get to watch this guy play second base for 3 MORE YEARS fter this. At least Delgado is gone after this year.

    • SixtyNineEightySix says:

Nothing personal, but how can anyone be looking at anybody other than the manager right now? I couldn’t imagine. We’ve got plenty of talent….it’s the leader, people, the leader!!!! Omar is just the chef.

      • mets19 says:

Omar is the one who put this group of OLD heartless lations together. Hes the one that deserves to go, not Willy. His bad moves far outnumber the good.

      • Gina says:

Because our players are the ones underperforming. Omar put the team together Omar should be the first one blamed. I don’t particulary like Willie either but there’s nothing he can do to fix Oliver Perez or to get pelfrey to develop a 3rd pitch or to keep Alou, Pedro, El Duque healthy or to fix Delgado and Castillo. Or to get Beltran hitting for power again.

  96. meatloaf says:

    fired I mean

  97. teufelshuffle86 says:

    It’s like a month ago….all over again.

  98. Boooooo says:

2 run against some rookie(granted a good rookie) and randy wolf..

Now thats giving them the business..

hope heilman gives up a dinger here so we can have more of a chance of him being DFAD!!!!

  99. Ludacrispat says:

david wright, stop sliding and make a goddam play you pretty boy bsatard

  100. Boooooo says:

no way a d wright error in a heilman inning? thats gonna be 10 runs

  101. EliPorter says:

i will repeat this statement bc i just cant fathom what went thru willies mind when he decided to pinch hit with robinson can-o-cel. THAT IS GROUNDS TO BE FIRED. error by wright on a double play ball. good bye, good night, sianara, hasta la vista, peace out, later, take care,

  102. dave27 says:

Most predictable development of the weekend:

    A. Sex and the City still a hit with women
    B. Heat and humidity hit NY for first weekend of June
    C. Hillary dragged kicking and screaming to concession
    D. Mets – somehow thinking 2 of 3 against the lowly Giants is a “roll” – can’t beat lowelier, limp-dick Padres

By the way, using the phrase “Mets” and “hitter’s count” is like using a Q without a U. I’ve never seem a team more perpetually at a disadvantage at the plate. Bases loaded, 2-0 count to Castillo, did ANYONE think Castillo had an advantage? Anyone?!!!

This team is always a 4-game losing streak waiting to happen. Meanwhile the Braves and Phillies played a game tonight that felt like September. Being in San Diego is probably a mircocosm of how far from the action we’ll feel by then.

    • Ludacrispat says:

i thought castillo might have an advantage because i was praying…PRAYING…that wolf just unloaded a fastball low and inside on the 2-0 pitch and the mets could walk in to tie it.

      but no….no…

    • EliPorter says:

      ROBINSON CANCEL

  103. Boooooo says:

heilman needs bigger pants.. and a set of balls to go in them..

i hope he forgets to get on the plane on the way back.. can we swap him with heath bell without anyone noticing?

    • dave27 says:

I disagree – for as many times as he’s crapped himself in them, those must be XXLs to hold it in.

  104. the Straw says:

jeez. if heilman escapes out of this inning. he owes his entire defense a steak tonight.

  105. SixtyNineEightySix says:

Robinson Cancel…those two words are all anyone needs to say. Rob-in-son Can-cel. The precise moment in Mets history where Wille Randoplh proved himself the worst manager who ever lived.

    • dave27 says:

Yes, but we still have Ramon Castro in case Schneider can’t make it though the next 2.5 innings healthy!

      • SixtyNineEightySix says:

Oh yeahhhhhhhhhh I forgot that one bit of essential, critical managing thinking. Thanks for reminding me….PPPBBBBBTHHHHHHHHHHH. (For Willie, not you, you’re cool)

  106. AlreadyMissShea says:

Hey, at least Keith replaced the lady with all the missing fingers in the anti-smoking ads.

  107. dave27 says:

If Citifield has any of these stupid distractions that apparently are designed to teach kids that the ballpark is for everything but watching baseball, I’m going to…well I am not going to boycott it…but I will not be happy at all.

  108. OrangEandBlue says:

So many Mets trades that went wrong.

    • dave27 says:

At least the two scrubbeeinies we got for Lidstrom and Owens are still in he organization…Bell was just given away.

I think David Wright could win Wimbledon with that backhand.

Oh what’s that? It was a baseball swing? Never mind.

Way to work the count Carlos.

It’s amazing how we can’t even get horrible teams like Washington and San Diego to beat themselves. These are two games teams like the Padres HAVE TO lose.

  109. therealsince86 says:

Wow this site has turned to complete garbage. This is the worst I have ever seen it. No one on here is even discussing baseball. It has offically been taken over by a bunch of whinny irrational fans.
June 7th, death of Metsblog. RIP

    • KinersKornerman says:

TRS, it’s Ventblog tonite. Not without reason. I think we are all at least a little pissed.

      • therealsince86 says:

Of course we are but this is just plain garbage. No baseball to it. Just so and so sucks and I hate everybody. So damn boring.

    • miker94 says:

speaking of which, you are the one who ALWAYS comes on here and does exactly what you are talking about. All you do is find a comment that you don’t like and you whine and bitch like a little girl. mind your own damn business and let people comment on whatever it is that they want to. like you have ANY positive baseball knowledge to contribute to the conversation, zip it fruitcake! I’m so over you

      • therealsince86 says:

Shouldn’t you follow your own advice?

        • miker94 says:

yes, but i’m not on here NONSTOP compaining about everyone else on here. give it a rest already for the love of God!

        • therealsince86 says:

Again, you may be right. I just need to get over the fact that posters like you have completely ruined a good blog.

        • miker94 says:

for your information, i havn’t said ONE negative thing on this site tonight, and usually i don’t. but if i do, it’s probably due to an emotion i’m feeling because of the game, and shouldn’t i have the right to say whatever i want? the answer is yes and same goes with everyone else on here. yet you feel that you are the metsblog police and that you should be the one to let everyone know that their posts aren’t quite what YOU think is acceptable. who are you to even say a word? if cerrone wants to tell people to chill out with the negativity then I think everyone would respect his wishes…but you? i don’t think so pal.

        • therealsince86 says:

Miker I have read your post for a while, you are always negative.

  110. WrightsRight says:

You know, having a pitcher’s ballpark is nice and all but this place is ridiculous. I like a nice pitching duel but this is just wrong. I hope Citi Field at least has slightly better dimensions….

  111. Boooooo says:

wow now theres a trade.. two good white relievers, bell and ring..

for ben johnson(?????????????) and jon adkins…

Id love to have bell and ring right now.

    • therealsince86 says:

Did you just metion that they were white? What the hell is that about?

      • Boooooo says:

they are dispensable to omar, and inferior in his mind..

        • therealsince86 says:

You are now officially an idiot. I guess there was no truth to him bringing in Church and Schneider for Milledge. It was a myth. God you are a racist bastard.

        • Boooooo says:

he had to get schneider and church.. otherwise every pre hit song would be gas-o-lina

        • therealsince86 says:

And Wagner of course, and Loduca, and Maine and keeping Pelfrey. But yeah, why am I arguing with a racist on a baseball blog.

        • Boooooo says:

          calm down.. calm down..

put the picket sign down mr. holier than thou..

        • KinersKornerman says:

Boooo, easy there. Ring is a joke and Bell wouldn’t have gotten you any key hits if he was on the team. In any case, he’s going down the David Weathers path.

      • miker94 says:

see, exactly what i was talking about, another comment by YOU about someone else, NOTHING to do with baseball!

    • IronMan says:

leave and take your racist comments with you ……

    • sandiegometsman says:

what the hell did u have to mention their colors for a**hole… Just another racist idiot acting like a baseball fan

      • therealsince86 says:

I bet he really likes hockey and nascar.

        • Boooooo says:

          nah mets and jets..

        • Boooooo says:

im just of the school of thought that the obvious racial divide on this team is costing us wins..

its obvious to everyone who knows baseball.. i give it a few more losses before wagenr gets into a fight with delcrapo again..

        • therealsince86 says:

I have seen your post on here before and you have some decent opinions now and then but now I will always associate you with that comment and realize that I am dealing with an ignorant racist.

  112. OrangEandBlue says:

Wow, that was the most disadvantaged 3-1 count from Wright I had ever seen.

  113. SixtyNineEightySix says:

Really? So you were fine with Robinson Cancel at possibly the key moment of the ballgame? OK! Pardon me for my idiocy.

  114. KinersKornerman says:

God, Heath Bell looks fatter and fatter each nite.

  115. Boooooo says:

    fitting…

  116. WrightsRight says:

God isn’t too fond of the Mets

  117. AlreadyMissShea says:

OK, I’ll just say it. That was an awesome play.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

OK, watching it again, maybe awesome was too strong of a word, but it was very nice.

  118. MetsFan4Decades says:

These hard hit balls not getting through are getting absolutely unbelievable……

  119. OrangEandBlue says:

Can the Mets catch a break?

  120. EliPorter says:

beltran is the unluckiest player on the unluckiest team in the league… how many more times does he need to rocket the ball to a defensive player?

  121. OrangEandBlue says:

Good night guys. The trade deadline is only a couple of weeks away.

  122. EliPorter says:

we cant beat randy wolf against a bottom 5 team in the league with johan santana. i am really so upset that johan is going to get this loss

  123. teufelshuffle86 says:

Anyone know where Aaron Heilman stands in the All-Star voting?

    • EliPorter says:

he has 3 votes- 2 from omar minaya and one from his mom

    • dave27 says:

Do you mean to ask how Heilman has impacted the voting by padding the stats of 3/4 of the National League?

I’ve hear that the Astros and Cardinals are protesting the game because they haven’t gotten to hit off Heilman yet this season….

  124. WrightsRight says:

Has a HR ever been hit in this stadium? Besides Bonds’ 755….

  125. Boooooo says:

on the mets, 345 really means 123..

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    12 pitches..

way to work him guys.. now heilmans dad comes in to face titties, sphancter, and chavez the fielder

  126. EliPorter says:

“i dont own this company. i dont own anything about it”

  127. NadyFan says:

    Phillies win again.

Mtes are a .500 team no matter how you slice it. They’ve been a .500 team since last June 1st. That’s a fukll season of .500 baseball. We all keep waiting for them to take off but it looks that’s not going to happene. Theyb are what they are.

    • the Straw says:

.500 may actually be generous considering OP is on the mound tomorrow.

    • dave27 says:

Come on, the Padres are LOADED. And since when is 4 runs not enough to take the first 2 games of a series?

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I wish I could still be a young man. Then I wouldn’t know that the Mets are a .478 team since their first game. It wouldn’t really bother me, because I’m a fan for life no matter what their record is, but if I were still a young man, I could still date college girls. Well I still can anyway, but they won’t like me for me. Then again, who the **** cares? They’re college girls. Where did I leave my credit cards?

    • mavicario says:

Cause Willie Randolph is a lousy manager.

He’s always been a lousy manager.

And guess what? Even when the mets are winning 3 series in a row, Randolph is still a lousy manager.

  128. dave27 says:

Don’t worry, Delgado will pinch hit in the 9th and Bill Webb will whisper in Gary’s headset that it would be a good idea to get excited as if it were 2003 and this game was being played at Rogers Centre.

  129. EliPorter says:

willie dont overmanage you idiot. im just so sick of this team. im tired of watching every night and having the same miserable feeling at the end of the night

    • dave27 says:

Pretty sure this move cements the Mets tying it in the 10th and having no one left to pitch by the 13th.

  130. dave27 says:

I think we should use a few more pitchers in a game we wouldn’t win if it were the 4th inning right now.

    • NadyFan says:

If we lose tonight with Santana and have OP going tomorrow, There’s a strong possibility we could lose 3 out of 4 to the Padres. 3 out of 4 to the Padres!!!!!! I don’t think any other team has lost 3 out of 4 to the Padres. It’s a sad, sad situation.

  131. the Straw says:

is it necessary to use 10 pitchers this inning?

maybe willie likes the exercise of walking to and from the mound.

  132. TurboDan says:

Ugh. I wonder what Santana’s record would be this season if the Phils were able to get him?

    • dave27 says:

I’m not exactly shedding a tear for Johan tonight…he had every batter that inning 0-2 and blew a play at 3rd. I know we need to score more than 1 run, but this Padres team is not exactly a tough out.

  133. the Straw says:

wow. three of us thought the same exact thing in a matter of 12 secs.

    I wonder why….

  134. dave27 says:

I hate myself for the fact that the dancing commercials were about the only place they could take the caveman and still get a chuckle from me. Literally hate myself.

  135. adam11216 says:

    christ, hoffman is slow…

  136. dave27 says:

    Memo to Mets:

    Hoffman is D-O-N-E.

I hope it gets to them faster than the one I sent them about Gagne in April.

  137. dannyboy says:

thank you straw i registered for this site finnaly and my first point was going to be why does willie use the bullpen so much leave guys in to pitch a whole inning he kills players confidence with stuff like this

  138. EliPorter says:

    carlos, please pull a giambi

  139. adam11216 says:

    i hate delgado.

  140. dannyboy says:

i cant stand delgado or willlie

  141. the Straw says:

ok this reallly makes no sense. something must be seriously wrong with Church.

    • dave27 says:

You realze he got hurt in Atlanta, right? You really though it was gonna be short term?

  142. dave27 says:

I can’t believe Delgado hit a weak grounder to second. My entire world is shattered.

  143. NadyFan says:

This team is done. A third place finish if they are lucky.

  144. dannyboy says:

    your 2008 no heart mets

  145. Boooooo says:

nice try carlos, you gave it your all there..

dont worry.. you scared willie enough last week to keep your job..

inthe good old days he wouldve been cut for publicly threatening the manager like that..

ladies and gentlemen, please rise for your star spangled banner… whats that carlos, your back hurts, youc ant rise? oh thats ok..

    go back to canada

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

You know that it wasn’t the Star Spangled Banner, right?

      • Boooooo says:

        same point isnt it?

i am embarassed to be a met fan

most of the people on here are spell checking nancies.. if i want my posts edited ill send them into newsday…

        • therealsince86 says:

I am embarassed too, emabarassed that you are a Mets fan. Exactly how does one who is racist become a Mets fan? I have plenty of people around where I live that are Atlanta fans and I would like to start them on your program.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

          “same point isnt it?”

          Actually… No.

        • therealsince86 says:

To a stoned racist those two songs and “The South’s gonna do it again” are all 3 the same thing.

  146. mets19 says:

HOFFMAN SUCKS AND THE METS CANT HIT THE BALL OUT OF THE DAM INFIELD

  147. adam11216 says:

    bad sign about church

  148. dannyboy says:

the willie watch is back on and by the way oliver perez goes for us tmrw we will be luck if we take two im just hoping for one now

  149. Boooooo says:

walk the bases loaded and then hit a batter.. COME ON YOU CAN DO IT!!!

  150. NadyFan says:

    Bad Sign about everything

  151. mavicario says:

Well, the Mets are back to their old ways

  152. dave27 says:

Someone please call Elias for the all-time record for weak grounders to second base. The Mets will shatter it by the break.

  153. adam11216 says:

tonight we’re gonna bat against hoffman like it’s nineteen ninety nine!

  154. dave27 says:

You know whatt? This team is just flat-out joyless.

  155. WrightsRight says:

And that’s that…..at least we have our stopper, Albert Einstein, going tomorrow….

Just pathetic. But I guess that’s what happens when you face Walter Johnson and Sandy Koufax on consecutive days…

  156. mavicario says:

I know it’s a little cliche to say, but this team just looks like they have no fight.

9th innings in 1 run games should not be that easy for a closer.

  157. mets19 says:

The mets may have ruined church’s career. He should have been put on the DL and told to rest until all his symptoms were gone.

  158. Two-By-Four says:

    PATHETIC!

  159. haplo says:

    They’re fine.

  160. Boooooo says:

hey only 5.5 back toa team that CAN NOT LOSE…

cant wait to get demolished by philly for independence day… that will really be my independence day.. free from watching this crap because we will be 10 back by then…

    can i get a REBUILD

    • nrmax88 says:

bOoooooooooooooo, I comepletely agree. Just told my dad that if this team wasn’t in NY they would be trading off pieces right now.

Like I told everybody time and time again this winter (and I was called a troll, a yankee fan, a philly fan, an idiot, etc) Santana was an absolutely awful, horrible trade to make, and he was nothing but a 140 million dollar bandaid. If Santana was a free agent, costing nothing but money, almost everyteam would laugh at the though of giving him 7 years 20 million. Now they are stuck with a declining Santana for the next 7 years, and the team on the field sucks. Ironic. They couldnt even give Santana away, even if they didnt give him a complete no trade clause. I honestly dont even know how this guy gets people out sometimes. Yeah, he has a good changeup, decent fastball. His slider is garbage, and he is constantly falling behind hitters in every inning, doesnt keep the ball down, I just dont get it. I saw atleast 5 or 6 89-90 mph pitches right down the heart of the plate. This team is a joke. I would trade every single player that I could besides Reyes and start this bytch over.

I know I will get killed for this post but I dont care. I am venting and I will feel differently in a week, or maybe I wont. Right now this team is sickening.

      • mets19 says:

SANTANA HAS PITCHED FINE SO FAR! I CANT STAND IT WHEN PEOPLE BASH HIM! IF YOU GOT HIT ON THE SHOULDER WITH A FKIN FASTBALL ID LIKE TO SEE YOU GO OUT THERE AND PITCH THE NEXT INNING! IF OUR OFFENSE COULD HAVE PUT UP A COUPLE RUNS HE WOULD HAVE WON THIS GAME

        • nrmax88 says:

Santana hasn’t been very impressive to me, sorry. He is throwing fastballs in the upper 80’s at times, hitters dont really bite on his changeup as much as in past years, he constantly falls behind hitters, he is too up in the zone, he gives up too many hits/ homeruns, he throws way too many pitches, he constantly gives up runs right after we get him some runs, he cant finish batters off and allows them to foul off pitch after pitch, he has a bad slider.

None of this is the problem to me. The problem is that the Mets traded for him and advertised to everybody (which you all so willingly believed) that he would bring us to a WS. Most of you idiots were calling for Omar to be fired if he didnt bring in Santana, talking about how we would win 110 games and Santana would strikeout 275 hitters and he would have an ERA under 2. WRONG. This team has massive problems, and spending 20 million a season over a ridiculous number of years (every team in in the history of baseball that has given a pitcher a 7 year contract has immesnely regretted it), on one declining ace that doesnt address the 5 or 6 other needs this team has. Like I said, it would have been awful enough if they gave him this much money as a free agent, but to gut your farm system on top of it, its just laughable. We couldnt give Santana away right now, besides maybe to the Yankees.

        • nrmax88 says:

And oh yeah, he got hit on the shoulder because he has some of the worst bunting mechanics I have ever seen in my life. It was his own fault.

      • Gina says:

“if this team wasn’t in NY they would be trading off pieces right now.”

what pieces? Wagner and Beltran have no trade clauses, Reyes and Wright, should be untouchable. And I can’t imagine anyone else has very good trade value.

  161. dannyboy says:

I CANT BELIEVE I SPENT MY FRIDAY NIGHT WATCHING THIS CRAP I MUST REALLY BE A FAN OR IM JUST PLAIN DUMB/CRAZY

  162. NadyFan says:

There’s nothing more to say about this team, they just aren’t that good and will finish in third place this. Too much dead weight on this team.

  163. AlreadyMissShea says:

You know what actually concerned me about this team tonight, more than anything?

Nothing that happened before Trevor Hoffman came into the game. And everything that happened after. What the **** was that? Look up FINISHED in the dictionary and you will see a picture of Trevor Hoffman.

  164. EliPorter says:

    robinson cancel. your 2008 mets

  165. End the season says:

I’d rather watch “Failure to Launch” every night than watch this team.

    pathetic…

REBUILD PLEASE NOW OR C APTURE BOBBY V And BRING HIM BACK TO THE STATES TO LIGHT A FIRE UNDER THE METS

  168. adam11216 says:

ecerybody get your bricks! hurry up!

  169. NadyFan says:

Bady built team. Worse team money can buy.

  170. Ludacrispat says:

This team just looks like they absolutely HATE being out there day in and out.

PS- If I were Omar Minaya’s boss, I would simply sit him down and say, “Sir, our team had a chance to take the lead tonight, and Robinson Cancel came to the plate. Please tell me how/why this is the case.”

After he bitched about Casanova’s bereavement (which I would tell him 3 catchers isn’t necessary), Church’s injury (which I would tell him was mishandling of an injured player) and Delgado’s being saved for later (which I would tell him that later is pointless when you have an opportunity now), I would hand him a slip that is covered in pink.

  171. TurboDan says:

True Danny Boy. They should be searching every sushi joint in Tokyo for Bobby V. Or, hell, get Backman here for all I care.

  172. EliPorter says:

    nothing will change this team.

  173. End the season says:

Thanks a lot Bill Webb, you racist

  174. TurboDan says:

Don’t worry, folks. Only three more years of Luis Castillo to go. Thanks Omar!

  175. NadyFan says:

There’s no way Castillo will be around for anothetr three years.

  176. adam11216 says:

if santana is hurt, we’re complete toast.

  177. NadyFan says:

We’re toast even if Santana is not hurt.

    • adam11216 says:

.500 isn’t toast. it blows, but without santana, we’re fighting the nats for 4th place.

      • nrmax88 says:

You make it sound like Santana has been so great this year. He has been right around 3.40. A lot of guys can come into do that, and for less then 150 million. Santana is one of the biggest problems we have. People talk about Castillo as if he is the problem. Yeah, it would be better if he werent signed for 4 years. Btu any body who thinks this team is losing because of Castillo, well, then, everybody you love deserves to die an awful death if that is the case. Santana isnt a problem in his on the field performance (he will be in 2 years or so, but thats a story for another day), but in the fcat that we are stuck with that albatross for 7 freakin years. Didnt I tell you that if we signed Santana we would look like last years Whitesox? I believe I did, you morons.

      • Gina says:

Is the really that much of a difference, between 3rd and 4th place? Especially when you’re a team with a 140 million dollar roster who brought in an ace to propel you to the world series? really anything out of the play-offs would feel the same as finishing dead last to me.

  178. EliPorter says:

the phillies find ways to win; the mets find ways to lose. put this season in the books

    • TurboDan says:

The Phillies have offense. They have a team that works together, not just a bunch of Omar Minaya’s cronies, many of whom were chewed up and unceremoniously spit out of the former Expos organization.

      FIRE OMAR!

  179. dannyboy says:

I WOULD TAKE BACKMAN IN A HEART BEAT HELL I WOULD TAKE MY HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL COACH RIGHT NOW……IF I STAYED BACK ON A GROUND BALL AT SECOND AND LOBBED IT OVER TO FIRST LIKE CASTILO DID, MY COACH WOULD HAVE PULLED ME FORM THE GAME AND I WOULD OF HAD TO RUN LAPS AFTER THE GAME….. THATS A MANAGER… THIER JOB IS TO GET THE BEST FROM EVERYONE

  180. dr jones says:

Well dudes,, We finally know exactly what this team is made of…..

Its over,,, this team is donzo… and its time to start the revolution!!!

Release Delgado and start a youth movement. Bring up Carp, F-Mart and rebuild, so next season we have a better understanding of what this team needs.

    • TurboDan says:

Jon Niese + cash for Nady?

      • therealsince86 says:

Pirates GM: Leave me alone and go back to your fantasy baseball. Come back when you are ready to include that teenage hitting machine.

        • TurboDan says:

When the teenage hitting machine starts hitting, I’ll call him a teenage hitting machine. Sorry, I’m not sold on this kid, despite all the supposed “experts” saying he’ll be great. See Ledee, Rickey.

        • therealsince86 says:

not saying he will be but he is our ONLY chip and can’t be used on Nady right now.

        • Gina says:

you obviously stopped pitching attention to f-mart at the end of April. He’s been a teenage hitting machine look at his splits.

  181. NadyFan says:

    Agree!

  182. NadyFan says:

Did we face Koufax and Gibson these past two games?

  183. TurboDan says:

Wow, a Mets loss littered with head-scratcher Willie moves and only 365 comments. I guess we’re all getting used to this.

  184. dannyboy says:

IF THEY FIRED OMAR AND MADE ME GM… THIS IS WHAT I WOULD DO

    1. RELEASE/TRADE DELGADO -CALL UP CARP TO REPLACE HIM
    2. RELEASE/TRADE ALOU – CALL UP MURPHY/EVANS TO FILL HIS SPOT….ALOU’S HEALTH IS HAUNTING THIS TEAM
    3. TRADE OLIVER PEREZ – MAKE VARGAS YOUR STARTER TO REPLACE PEREZ
    4. REPLACE WILLIE WITH BACKMAN OR BOBBY V IF WE COULD
    5. GET RID OF CASTILO – YOU PROB COULD GET SUM PROSPECTS FOR HIM IF YOU EAT MOST OF HIS CONTRACT

JUST ANOTHER THOUGHT… US AS FANS SHOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT MONEY OR SOME OF THESE GUYS CONTRACTS ( DELGADO, CASTILO) THE WILPONS AND THE METS HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY TO SPEND – WHAT THEY DONT HAVE IS PROSPECTS SO KEEP DEVELOPING OUR KIDS

    • End the season says:

Danny, I agree with all those points

    • mets19 says:

I WISH you could be made the GM. But we are going to be stuck with Omar the latin king for a long time.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Well if you bring these guys up now when they’re absolutely not ready, how are they supposed to keep developing?

By the way, I don’t think you can trade even one of those guys. This is our team. They might be able to make a move at some point for an outfielder/1st baseman, but it’s not going to be anything that will change the face of the team. They are going to have to win with what they have right now if they are going to win at all.

    • TurboDan says:

Agree, but who would be our 2B? Easley? Maybe we could get Gotay back from Atlanta LOL.

    • KinersKornerman says:

If they fired Omar and made me GM, I would hire you just so I could take away your capslock. Nevertheless, here’s soem things for you to think about in your new career as GM.

      1. Why would any team want Delgado, Perez or Castillo. A trade ususally involves another team.

      2. Bobby V has a great job and he doesn’t have to deal with angry fans. Wally also has a job where he can curse at kids. Why would they come to NY?

      3. Did you remember the Nick Evans experiment from last week. If not, 4 hits in 23 ABs for a .174 average.

Good effort all around, but this ain’t fantasy baseball.

      • dannyboy says:

kiner sorry about thecaps lock just frustrated thats all i know they are annoying but here is my response to that
        1. if we cant find trade partners than just release them do you think any of our division rivals would pick any of these losers up????? no
        2. i know bobby v would not leave japan he has it made there thats why i said get bobby v if we could.. there are other capable managers out there besides backman ( showalter, bowa, or anyone that isnt afraid to get in a players face)
        3. Wait, you mean the nick evans experiment of 23 ab’s yea thats def the timetable i would give my young prospects too succeed in.. are u seriuos?? im glad your not the gm.. i would keep omar if you would run the team like that lol
This aint a fantasy, its real life cut the dead weight off this team now!!!!!

        • KinersKornerman says:

I would actually like Evans Carp and Murphy to move from AA to AAA and get good there. I think Pelfrey would have been better to devleop at AAA, too. My point was bringing them up now would be like moving a AA team to Shea. Not a good idea.

Also, if you said sign some major league talent, and you could get some, then I think you would be on the right track. Problem is all the good talent is on other teams right now.

It’s not a tree, it’s a baseball team. What you say is “dead wood” needs to replaced with live wood.

        • dannyboy says:

i agree with you moving carp/ murphy/ evans to tripple a so we can unload the other aging veterans we currently have playing in new orleans.. but not every kid’s physche is as fragile as oliver perez so maybe bringing up carp or murphy might be a good idea…plus i have heard many baseball experts say tripple a is not much of a step up than double a….

i agree there is other talent out there but we dont have the prospects to get them… our team sucess relies on the fact that all our players like pedro, alou, now church stya healthy… thats a big if because most are so old and brittlle… just please keep our prospects.. we are not one trade away from being a world championship team but the best teams dont always win it all. ( see the giants beating the patriots last year or the cardinals beating the mets in 2006) you just need the right nucleaus and right now we dont have it

lol and the dead wood ( delgado, castilo) can be replaced with maybe one prospect and jose valentin who at least would provide more leadership than delgado and prob the same numbers if not better

        • wesdp1988 says:

Danny, those moves have no chance of happening. If you were gm, we would field a different team by the week. This is our team, and I am stickin with them.

Simple solution, weekly job status meetings with the Wilpons to take 7 out of 10. ha

  185. NadyFan says:

You’re right, it’s not the fan’s job to worry about money, that’s the Wilpon’s problem. Our job is to DEMAND that we get players with heart that play their asses off. Not Castillos and Delgados.

    • wesdp1988 says:

Those same demands result in signings like delgado. If you remember, nobody was complaining when he was signed. The true solution is for everybody not to want our team to sign sign sign sign players because we end up overpaying them with too many years. Build the team from the inside out through the farm system (but it wouldn’t never happen here in New York because people have zero patience and want to make constant changes)

  186. dannyboy says:

TURBO DAN I THOUGHT THE SAME THING BUT ITS FRIDAY AND PPL WERE SMART NOT TO SIT HOME AND WATCH THIS CRAP UNLIKE OUR LUCKY SELVES LOL

  187. dannyboy says:

can we trade for that hairston kid ON SD OUR PLAYERS COULD LEARN SOMETHING FROM HIS HUSTLE OUT THERE ( DELGADO, CASTILO)

    • NadyFan says:

Castillo and DElgado are too old to learn anything. They think they know it all anyway.

  188. dannyboy says:

THAN KS METS19 AND I UNDERSTAND ALREADYMISSSHEA BUT THE POINT IS I BET THEY PLAY BASEBALL THE RIGHT WAY AND I WOULD RATHER WATCH YOUNG KIDS GIVING THEIR ALL THEN THE SORRY GROUP OF GUYS WE HAVE NOW ( EXCLUDING REYES OR WRIGHT)

  189. NadyFan says:

Poor Santana man, I bet he’s wishing it was the Phillies who had tyreded for him.

  190. AlreadyMissShea says:

Every single person involved in the Mets broadcast tonight has expressed some concern, maybe even doubt, regarding Church’s health right now. The most optimistic comment has been that this is “something to keep an eye on.”

Their handling of this second head injury might be the most costly thing of all right now.

  191. koosman says:

so the best they can do is a split with a joke of a club. F%%! the Mets. They just plain suck.

  192. dannyboy says:

COULD YOU IMAGINE IF THE PHILLIES HAD MORE PITCHING BESIDES HAMELS IF THEY GOT SANTANA THEY WOULD BE 10 GAMES UP…. ALTHOUGH I WONDER IF THEIR FARM SYSTEM IS A S DEPLETED AS OURS

  193. NadyFan says:

Who would of thought that the Trade for church would mean so much to this pathetic team. Imagine we would of opened the season with lastings M.

  194. dr jones says:

we shouldn’t all get crazy again over this. Its not healthy and I don’t have anything left..

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I wish the Phillies or the Braves would swap uniforms and wear our colors. I respect those guys.. They are ballplayers, we are gutless.

  195. dannyboy says:

church looked out of it when the camera was on him he should have been on the dl after he continued to get progressively bad… does anyone remeber the name WAYNE CHREBET???? i watched my favorite jets player deal with concussions for years NOW HE NEEDS A GPS NAVIGATION SYSTEM TO GET HOME EVERY DAY ITS SAD AS HECK

  196. dannyboy says:

no one get angry when i say this… im just puting it out there…. but would anyone consider signing barry bonds to play 1b/ lf if we release delgado or alou????? i know he might go to jail and all the crap that comes with him but he can still hit??? just a sugestion nothing more any thoughts???

    • dr jones says:

no we can’t.. I think its better to just sacrifice the season and see if any of the kids can play. At least we’ll know where we stand next season..

I’d have a problem rooting for that guy

  197. koosman says:

I think it’s time they started wearing pink uniforms. They should call themselves the NY Pu$$ies from now on.

  198. dannyboy says:

ok everyone feel asleep or are in the act of crying themselves to sleep jk lol everyone have a good night…. and remember WE ARE STILL METS FANS.. STAY LOYAL NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.. TOMMOROW IS A NEW DAY AND FOOTBALL SEASON STARTS IN LESS THAN THREE MONTHS LOL

  199. metphan says:

Lineup would have looked a lot better today with Bonds hitting 4th and playing LF…

  200. EV says:

Amen koosman. I’ve never seen a team with less heart and fight before, oh yea I did it was last years team. Where to begin: 1. I can’t believe I stayed up late to watch this crap for a second straight night. 2. How do you score 2 runs against the Padres, the freaking Padres are you kidding me they stink, no Madddux, Peavy, or Young and instead of sweeping them or taking 3 out of 4 like a good team would, we wil be lucky to win one game. 4. Robinson Cancel, who is this guy and why is he on this team, is there some rule where you have to have three catchers?, oh that’s right our minor leagues stink and we have no depth. There is no way this team is making the playoffs. Omar has to be fired, he should be fired alone for the Castillo signing and for the fact that we have Robinson Cancel pinch hitting tonight. How about the draft, see all the young arms we passed up still say the Mets don’t want to pay over slot, no, we have to have the stupid all star game at Citi Field in 2012. What’s the over/under on Perez tonight, I got 2 innings?

  201. EV says:

You can’t have Barry Bonds on this team, that’s a HORRIBLE IDEA. I’ve also never seen a team screw up bigger with a guy who has a concussion than Ryan Church, put him on a plane to Colorado, great idea. I’ve never said this any other year before, I can’t wait for Football Season and to watch the DEFENDING SUPER BOWL CHAMPION Giants, eat your hearts out Jets fans lol.

  202. DMAT89 says:

EV, ill raise u .2 and give him 2.2 before he implodes.

  203. EV says:

Your on DMAT. 2.2 is fair. Even if he throws batting practice like he did against the Giants, in that ballpark it won’t be a homerun. I’m thinking he will walk the ballpark, probably have about 6 walks by the second sounds about right. God, Olie Perez stands in the way from us being under 500, I’m so going to have nightmares in my sleep tonight.

  204. The Glider says:

No time to panic. Plenty of baseball left to be played. Hopefully, we can go into the All-Star break on a little bit of a roll. Maybe Omar makes a move or two (1B, OF, and/or pitching) by the trade deadline. Everybody needs to relax.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

There are not going to be any moves to be made that will make this a better team. Maybe they can do something to sit Delgado or Alou (when he returns) more often. But there will not be any real fixes to be made via a trade. And in all honesty, I would rather them not even try. Who can you trade? Don’t say Delgado or Castillo. The kind of trades you are hoping for would end up being panic moves that would make this team hard to watch for years to come. And stop telling people to relax. At this point fans do have a right to be discouraged.

  205. LIMetfan74 says:

I think its just time to face the fact that this team is just a .500 ballclub. I’m tired of being told “Relax its a long season”. What makes anybody think they will someday turn on a switch and all start playing well. I hate to say it but its not going happen. This team is just to inconsistant. Its filled with aging players on the decline and a barron farm system. For those of you waiting for some big trade thats not going to happen either. I just think its time eveybody gets their head out of the sand and face facts!

  206. stickguy says:

2006 in reverse (meaning the Phils are the Mets).

Mets again get good pitching but find a way to lose.

Phils should lose, but get a complete gift (Kelly Johnson continues to kill the Mets, and they aren’t even playing) and win a game they have no business winning.

Can’t believe they are back to an even .500. They really, really need to get on a hot streak, and soon, or Omar and the Wilpons should just forget about playoffs tis year, and try to restock as best as they can.

  207. FireOmar says:

Apologies to all Met fans who stayed up last night to watch another loss. I was so tired, but tried to stay up – once i saw Castillo dog it on the first play of the game, that set the tone for me, and i shut the game off. I am sick of this lax play. These players to not know how lucky they are. Even Charlie Manuel shows some ballz sitting Rollins. Willie – grow a pair.

  208. teufelshuffle86 says:

If Chavez is in the lineup tonight I’m going to throw a brick through my TV. I’ve never seen a guy hitting .202 keep getting rewarded with playing time.

    …..oh wait, Delgado…..

This team needs a 1B man and a corner outfielder who can stay healthy in a big way.

  209. teufelshuffle86 says:

At least with Rollover Perez going tonight the game should be over around 10:30. I’m tired of staying up to watch this team score 1 run against a horrible pitching staff.

  210. metsfan119 says:

Look at the lineup the Mets lost to last night, and with their ace! And it’s not like they got shut down by Koufax or anything. Anyway, it’s really hard to blame the team’s mediocre manager anymore, this team simply isn’t that good. I’m at the point now where I think the focus should be on the wild card because I look at the Mets and then the Phillies and realize, these two teams aren’t in the same stratosphere. If the Phillies were playing againt the Padres last night, they would’ve prison raped Wolf.

  211. kjmcc0729 says:

On the Ryan Church injury, did anyone catch Willie on Mike and the Mad Dog this week? they discussed how Chruch was doing, and at one point Willie noted that the doctors have given him the o.k. and at some point Church is going to have to “suck it up” and get on the field. Interesting, no?

  212. stickguy says:

the Mets just have too many hitters right now that are marginal, at best, major leaguers. No wonder they have trouble with rallies and scoring runs.

Easley, Tatis, Castillo, Delgado, Chavez all should never be starting on a regular basis.

Schneider isn’t much better offensively, although he can get a pass as a defensive catcher (although you can’t carry one of those when you have so many other holes in the line up).

Last night, they only started 3 legit major leaguers out of 8. That just isn’t good.

At least if Church and Alou come back, they will only be carrying 2-3 black holes.

  213. stickguy says:

But, even if thePhils run away with the division, the NL WC should be wide open this year. So even playing erratically, the Mets could still make the playoffs, and anything can happen once you are in!

    • Gina says:

I think we’re as far behind STL for the wildcard as we are the phillies for the divison lead. And I’d say they’re a more complete team than the Phillies.

  214. metsfan1 says:

According to Newsday, Church seemed to be pretty upset that he wasn’t in the lineup. When asked by reporters he basically walked away saying that he wants to play. Then he was asked to pinch hit and he said he couldn’t do it. Now maybe this is a lot to do about nothing but maybe Church is not going to allow Willie to sit him and then just pinch hit. I thought last night’s lineup was really weak.

  215. darkstar73 says:

man, you must have a pathetic life if you spend this much time watching/paying attention to something you hate. Good stuff.

  216. therealsince86 says:

Look at his name, he is as close to a troll as it gets.

  217. therealsince86 says:

So now an old guy who can’t get on the field is a bitch? It’s not his fault he is injured. The Mets should not have signed him.

  218. OrangEandBlue says:

It’s not Alou’s fault, its Omar’s fault for signing him again.

  219. therealsince86 says:

Really the fault is not having a guy that can fill in for him. I guess he gets a pass, however with Pagan injured. Alou at 7 million was a good risk, you just have to be prepaired for the injuries.

  220. OrangEandBlue says:

Wow, relax buddy. Still two innings to go.

  221. KinersKornerman says:

    well said.

  222. therealsince86 says:

    Fasteriskck, Fasteriskck, Fasteriskck?

  223. therealsince86 says:

Better not catch the white sheet on your head on fire.

  224. therealsince86 says:

Actually I am 31 years old and white. There is just no place on this site for comments like you made.

  225. therealsince86 says:

So you are really dumb enough to think that Omar traded 2 white relievers for Johnson and another white reliever because they were white? Again, why reason with a racist?

  226. EliPorter says:

wait! willie took out tatis, to use delgado, so we could use abraham nunez if someone got on base? does this guy have a clue. please, i cant forgive willie. hes a class A moron

  227. stickguy says:

Another fine product of the Philadelphia public school system.

In case you weren’t paying attention, the Mets have won it all more recently (and more in total) that the Phillies. And the Mets even spotted them what, 50+ years?

Oh, I guess you are talking about the record for most losses by a franchise? Yeah, I will give you that one.

Plenty of time for the Phils to come back to earth. But at least you have their great playoff run from last year to look back on (oh wait, never mind!)

Last historical point. Game 6 was already tied when buckner missed the grounder, and odds are, the Mets were winning that game even if it went into extra innings.

Now if you want to talk about Joe Carter, there was a clutch ball player!
