Next step: dump Delgado and call up Carp.

Yeah, yeah, yeah… his salary… WHO CARES the dude is a waste of space at this point.

    • Ceetar says:

And he’s hit well the last two weeks. At the very least wait until he cools off again. Especially if you’re advocating an unknown.

      • ae37jr says:

it’s been more then 2 weeks. Since April 27th(more than half of the season) in 37 games he is hitting .284 with 7 hr’s. Not spectacular numbers but not the kind that you send home and still pay. As a matter of fact his numbers are very similar to both Betran’s and Wright’s over that span. As much as people here don’t want to eat their crow to say this, but outside of Reyes, Delgado has been our best everyday hitter over past month and a half.

        Delgado-.284 7hr
        Wright-.274 7hr
        Beltran-.286 4hr

        • Ceetar says:

Yeah, I didn’t do the legwork, I just know I’ve seen.

I reallythinkthe problem might be HoJo. They’ve gotten hits, there have been some uncomfortable slumps for some guys, but the big issue is situational type hitting like RISP.

Keith prompted a thought process to me, in that he mentioned how much more teams go for home runs now a days. Maybe the Mets need to stop worrying about that, beacuse that’s not really what they’re about. clean hits, line drives, up the middles, bloops, all that stuff and stick to the aggressive baserunning that’s worked for them in the past.

        • nrmax88 says:

You post BA, and home runs, who cares? The HR matter a little bit, but posting BA is as usless as posting a pitchers W-L record. What is delgados whole line over that span 280/330/430? He is garbage

        • nrmax88 says:

Yeah, everybdy is all in love with Hojo, because he was here in 86, I say screw him. He is a garbage hitting coach, and it pisses me off that he took all of the credit for Ryan Church’s hot start. News flash Howard, hyou had nthing to do with it. Omar got a good player who was finally going to get to hit in a decent lineup and play everyday. The fact that he has a bad ST and came out of the gates hot hardly makes you the guru of hitting Howard. Sorry.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

“News flash,” idiot — no one on this site “is all in love with Hojo.” Now go back to your role playing game.

        • Justin4383 says:

I made these Comments last week but it didnt click. Take away the month of april and he is not doing that bad. Beltran is the problem.

If you look over the lineup there are things I notice.

Reyes while a good leadoff hitter might suit us better the middle of the order.

Casitillo is good with runners in scoring position. Might be better as a 7 hitter than a 2

Beltran is crap. He should not be a # 4 hitter he should bat second.

I know he is on the minor league DL, but I dont think we can do worse. Once he is healthy Fernando Martenez needs to come up and lead off

Chuch gets healthy eventually he should bat 3rd

          1. Fernando Martinez LF RF
          2. Beltran CF
          3. Reyes SS
          4. Wright 3B
          5. Church RF Alou LF (Platoon)
          6. Delgado 1B
          7. Castillo 2B
          8. Schneider / Ramon “Whats a Timezone:” Castro C (Platoon)

          Bench
          Chavez
          Anderson
          Easley
          other half of the Platoons

        • ae37jr says:

“You post BA, and home runs, who cares? The HR matter a little bit, but posting BA is as usless as posting a pitchers W-L record. What is delgados whole line over that span 280/330/430? He is garbage”

          delgado-.284 .358 .515
          Beltran-.286 .354 .471
          Wright-.274 .356 .452

so David Wright is garbage then too? I think not and hes has been a worse hitter then Delgado last month and a half.

        • Dafatone80 says:

Fernando Martinez isn’t tearing up AA. He’s batting 280 with little power and no patience at the plate.

So, no. He shouldn’t be leading off.

        • TobeRinkler says:

Question to more than one vocal poster above:

What, exactly, makes Howard Johnson such a bad hitting coach? What part of his regimen is lacking? What drills should he be running that he isn’t? What philosophy should he be advocating that he isn’t? Or, even simpler & forgetting about what should be but isn’t, what is it that Johnson’s doing that he shouldn’t be doing?

  2. stk1130 says:

im just glad to see they finally got rid of the third catcher our bench is bad enough

    • Ceetar says:

Because having Nunez here is better than Casanova?

I like the third catcher, it allows Castro to get at-bats so he’s a little fresher when he starts.

      • Biscuit says:

Did ya watch the game the other day? In a spot where Castro SHOULD have batted, our brain surgeon of a manager put Robinson Cancel up instead.

So, in theory, your idea is solid, but when you have a manager who has never managed a game above little league, you can’t count onyour theory (which is a good one) being put to work.

      • toomanyuniforms says:

Nunez would be more useful to the Mets if he stopped donning a uniform and instead was put in charge of wake-up calls to Castro.

      • guierllNO MOta says:

when has castro pinch hit? also, then with Castro you need a pinch runner…so whats the point for a guy whos a .260 hitter

      • nrmax88 says:

Nunez isnt really bad. He is a nice utility guy, which we dont have. He can play anywhere in the IF for you and give you solid defense. The problem is when all these guys are hurt we start taking unfair shots at guys like Nunez, who should be a 25th man, and a fine one, but now he is a key component of the bench and that is because of all the injuries and ineffectiveness from the corner spots

        • garykeithron says:

doesn’t easley essentially fill that utility role?

        • letsgomets942 says:

Are you serious?? There is no need for Nunez! Thinking like this is why we are a .500 club! Take a chance on someone young or at least Scooch!!
This make me sick that Nunez is still here. I rather have Casanova!!

        • clarkx14 says:

they need to bring up aguila

  3. thornton says:

Woo hoo! World Series here we come. (Cries softly)

  4. Biscuit says:

Why is Nunez still on this team???? Give me anyone but this clown please! He couldn’t hit last year, he couldn’t hit in AAA this year and he can’t hit in the majors now…..give me Pascucci, Aguila or even Butch Huskey at this point!

    • the clap says:

Huskey’s been out of the game for 8 years and he’s still only 36 years old. A tad too young for Omar to even consider for his Los Abuelos.

  5. Bruce Boisclair says:

Well we can beat Owings. You can then hope that we can somehow take 1 of the last 2 from Webb or Haren.

  6. ToastyJoe says:

Yeah, baby! Here comes the infusion of youth we’ve been waiting for!

  7. saltzy007 says:

Anyone else dangerously close to the ‘Man, I love the Mets….but I am having a hard time caring anymore’ phase….

I have watched all but 3 games this year, and it feels like its a chore every game….its rapidly becoming my least favorite 3 hrs of the day….and yet…I HAVE to watch….Being a (borderline OCD) fan of a marginal team really blows…

Great. Moises and Marlon are back. Yay. I’m looking forward to Alou hitting with no one on base and Marlon grounding out to 3rd with 2 on and 2 outs….

    Cant wait.

Look….Im sorry. I want to keep caring, but this least calendar year…..I mean….DEAR GOD….

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Were I not a Bears’ fan, I’d be really pumped for football right now. Imagine if your “skill players” were Kyle Orton, Matt Forte, Mark Bradley and Devin Hester (who is fine as a kick returner, but. . . .)

Anyway, this isn’t JetsBlog, let alone BearsBlog, so I’ll stop there. But, you know, Cedric Benson used to be in the Dodgers’ system. . . .

    • johnfromflushing says:

me …….. i felt the same way …. but the idea that they’re gonna rebuild and save the season is silly, but instead of giving up ,i’ve lowered my expectations….. i realized this is not going to be the season we all hoped for, but we still can win , theres still a ton of pitching talent here…… and we can still win…. i dont expect to win but i believe we will……..

i still believe jose, david ,beltran, and maybe delgado can turn it around…

      • saltzy007 says:

And there-in lies the rub…I CANT give up, because I HAVE to be there when it turns around. I wouldnt be able to live with myself when it turns around knowing I abandoned the team…be it this year or next, or whenever. They are the only team I care about. I just hate this incarnation…

I think many of us feel this way, especially if you watch most/all of the games. So now, I’m ’stuck’ watching a team I hate, just so EVENTUALLY when it all turns around i can say I was there at the bottom, and Ill know it to be true….even if no one else cares…

Just not a fun way to be a fan….not fun at all…

        OK…here goes….’Ya Gotta Believe!’…

        Right?….anyone….RIGHT??!?!?..help me out here….

        • johnfromflushing says:

right on…………. it’s all we have left … ya gotta believe…..

and if we can get this thing moving forward ,we have plenty of time…….

        • metties1 says:

I missed very few games during the Art Howe error. I’m not even close to not caring. It is absolutely brutal to watch though.

I am dangerously close to not caring with the knicks. Still watch more than 75% of their games though

    • TBlz says:

thing is, they would just tank all the way, it could be easier. the path would be clear on what’s best for 09. But, take 2 out of 3 from the D-backs, and all of the sudden, the life and hope come back. Then swept by the Rangers, and so-on and so-on, and so-on. Maddingly inconsistent is the hardest part. At least 05’s club was fun to watch.

      • saltzy007 says:

Fair point. Its like the post yesterday asking if ‘you missed the old days’ of low expectations…

I dont know which way I like it better, I just wanna FRIGGIN WIN already…and not go to sleep 4 nights a week with my fists clenched….dammit…stupid Mets….

  8. I have the over/under at 6 ABs before Alou goes back on the DL.

    • stumped1 says:

oddly enough, the over/under on someone using that joke this year was 50, and thats long been passed

  9. guierllNO MOta says:

#1…Trachsel got DFA’d. lets start advocating for him to be signed!!!!! ha

#2…for all of you who are dying for Mike Carp…isnt he playing in the Bing, just like mlb-give him a chance-failure Nick Evans??? right…

#3 as yeah at this point the Mets need to call up a 5th OF and replace either Tatis or nunez with him (Val or Aguila), then the stache can replace the other when he is ready and then either Pascussi or Aguila gets dropped whenever the Angel flaps his wings again…or more likely when Church only sees one mullett on Peterson.

  10. raylyman78 says:

So glad that Nunez is still up there.

    • Boscov says:

What a pathetic fan base. People complaining about the last guy on the bench.

      • TBlz says:

It probably is an indirect complaint towards Omar and Co. for a seemingly incomprehensible method of putting together a ball-club…

        • metties1 says:

I think it is the overall bench they are complaining about. Two of the bench players are currently starters on any given night though

    • ebfnyc says:

Great comment about Nunez. Give ray a citifield pin.

  11. johnfromflushing says:

like you salty i watch every game . and many i night , they sent me to bed in a fowl mode ,only to wake up in a fowler mode….

but instead of giving up as others have ,i’ve given up on my delusions of world series rings and dominate teams….. it’s easier that way …..

now it’s just my mets…… and we got a punchers chance…… lets go mets……

    • saltzy007 says:

      **sighing***….

Yea….(head facing down, foam Mets #1 finger pointing straight up, muttering under breath)….

      Lets Go Mets….

      That felt a litle better…

JUST WIN YOU BUNCH OF PANSIES….

Dammit I wanna be more behind this team more than anything, but whew…they have given me NOTHING……ABSOLUTLEY …NOTHING in the last YEAR….if anything they’re like a barnacle on my side sucking the life out of me….

LETS GO ALREADY…WIN today…we’ll worry about tomorrow tomorrow….

      • metties1 says:

They gave us Johan in the offseason. That was kinda cool. Unfortunately, the novelty has worn off

  12. garykeithron says:

I was thinking I should stick to watching mets minor league games from now on….

  13. johnfromflushing says:

i’m giving up ,on giving up……

and god damm but it feels good…..

    for a few hours ,anyway..lol

  14. Knuckler says:

Give me something to cheer about…. a new face in the lin- up. A new face managing this team. Something…anything please …….for pete’s sake stop being so damm boring and lifeless…… OMAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feel better now that I let it out.

    • saltzy007 says:

This should be renamed the ‘Cathartic Thread for Mets fans looking to release some anger caused by poor play’

  15. garykeithron says:

By the way, has any of the press asked any of the mgmt WHY they decided on Nunez over other players who have significantly higher averages?

  16. sheaheykid says:

    Ya gotta believe!

    • saltzy007 says:

Im 99% sure that there isnt one player(maybe sans Wags, Wright and maybe Pedro) that cares about this team wining more than basically everyone posting on this blog…

That cant be a good thing…

      • NadyFan says:

That my friend is the whole problem in a nut shell.

      • garykeithron says:

Anyone here play baseball? Maybe you could try out for the team and bump Nunez…..wait, sorry, they’d probably keep him and bump Castro

        • saltzy007 says:

hey….in all seriousness ill take Endy on his worst day over some of these bums….

Yea…hes not gonna set the world on fire, but he CARES….he plays his butt off everytime he has a chance to play…

With 9 “Endy’s” we wouldnt win a damn thing, but at least I would know they CARE….

        • garykeithron says:

endy’s awesome. He might’ve saved 2 runs with his defense last game. With 9 endy’s the other team would never score! So they could keep drag bunting until they got a run and they’d win.

    • Knuckler says:

Thank you kid. I needed that.

      Let’s go Mets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. NadyFan says:

You want to see hard nosed baseball played with enthusiasm and grit? watch the college WS. Now that’s how baseball should be played (Minus the aluminum bats).

  18. NadyFan says:

To think i stopped going to Mets games because I started to think I was a bad-luck charm since every time I went to see them play they would lose. I haven’t been to game in a while but they are still losing. This team is soooo bad that not even my legendary bad Karma can keep them from losing. Incredible.

  19. NadyFan says:

Here’s a thought, the Mets could just forfit all the remaining games and while this wouldn’t help their win column they would kick Phillies butt in the loss column!

  20. ebfnyc says:

Alou is 25 and has never been hurt.

    Anderson is amazing.

    Welcome to my parallel universe.

    All tickets are free.

  21. Sasseroni says:

Thank God Marlon’s back, now he can get back to being the worst bench player in the history of the game.

  22. NadyFan says:

    Now that’s what I call a die-Hard!!!

  23. Knuckler says:

I’m in PR so I wouln’t know. Is the weather so bad the game might not go through?

  24. saltzy007 says:

I’ve never heard of a game being called on account of ‘Ridiculously high unseasonal temperatures and ungodly humidity’…

But ya never know I guess….

  25. NadyFan says:

At least they wouldn’t lose, that’s a good thing right? Anyway there is a forecast for isolated strong thunder storms with hale and damaging winds.

  26. saltzy007 says:

eeeeYup….that would be par for the course…

8-1 in the 4th….Me-”It cant get any worse than this”….

Followed by my head being split open like a cantaloupe by golf ball sized hail…

  27. johnfromflushing says:

the only thunder and lightning you’ll be seeing tonite is from the mets bats…

  28. NadyFan says:

Lets hope you’re right. Do you say that because Alou is back? Just wondering why all of a sudden the Mets bats are like Thunder and Lightning.
