By Mike Nichols - Jun 10, 2008 6:10 pm

The Game:

The Mets (30-32) begin their three-games series versus the Diamondbacks (34-30) tonight at Shea Stadium, starting at 7:10 pm EST.

The Lineup:

The Pitchers:

RHP John Maine (6-4, 3.47 ERA) toes the rubber for the Mets. Maine earned a win in his last start on June 4 versus the Giants surrendering two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over 6.0 IP. Opponents are hitting .187 versus Maine in his five starts at Shea Stadium this season, in which he is 3-0. Maine is 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA in three career starts versus the Diamondbacks.

RHP Micah Owings (6-4, 4.50 ERA) takes the hill for the Diamondbacks. Owings pitched in his shortest outing of the season in his last start on June 4 versus the Brewers lasting only three innings allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out three. Since May 2, Owings is 2-4 with a 5.27 ERA. He is 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA in two career starts versus the Mets.

The Notes:

The Mets won 2-of-3 three from the D-Backs earlier this season.

David Wright is batting .227 with 8 HR and 31 RBI versus right-handed pitchers this season. He is 3-for-7 with a homerun in his career versus Owings.

Brian Schneider has thrown out 12-of-26 (46.2%) base stealers this season, which ranks him second in the National League.

The D-Backs are 12-9 in series openers this season.

Mark Reynolds
is batting .410 with 3 2B, 6 HR and 11 RBI in last 39 at-bats. He is hitless in six career at-bats versus Maine.

Brandon Lyon has converted his last 13 save opportunities and has not been scored upon in his last 22.0 IP.

  1. CitizenSnips says:

Thank god anyone using mlb.tv doesn’t have to listen to Mark Grace label every D-backs player as the second coming tonight.

    • WestCoastMets_since86 says:

seriously…I have to watch all the games on MLB.tv and I dread the road games and their announces….

I really wouldn’t mind Keith, Ron and Gary sharing some kind of legitimate roll in the Front Office

      ….maybe manager perhaps??

  2. ravi3 says:

D-Wright reaaaaally needs to pick it up against the righties…They keep throwing him that slider outside which he always chases…He’s gotta adjust.

  3. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Bad weather on the way, so the game could be postponed

  4. NadyFan says:

That clinches it. Willie has to be by far the most stubborn, bull headed person alive on this planet.

DO NOT keep batting Beltran fourth!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The guy is NOT, I repeat, is NOT a clean-up hitter. VEVER was and NEVER will be.

    WILLIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some one has to smack him upside the head, pleae, anyone.

    • KinersKornerman says:

very expressive, Bravo to you my friend. I can feel the pain in your post. Let’s bat Wright 4th. How much could it hurt?

      • therealsince86 says:

It would decrease his AB’s and give Beltran more, but why not? Also, Wright does not have the greatest numbers from the 4 spot if I remember correctly but….
Now if Alou comes back strong you can make some changes when Church gets back.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Not sure about Wright’s history in the cleanup spot, but the idea was to get Beltran going. Giving him better protection (Wright) in the lineup and basestealers ahead of him could help to get him fewer curveballs. Just an idea.

    • therealsince86 says:

While I agree I would rather have Beltran 3rd or 5th, until we get a cleanup hitter that is where he has to be. You want your best hitter hitting 3rd and that’s where Wright is. You can’t have Delgado or Alou hitting 4th. I think until Church is back flipping Delgado and Alou based on LH/RH is about all we can do. When Church comes back I have no problem thinking outside the box and going
Reyes, Beltran, Wright, Church, Alou, Delgado, Schnieder/Castro, Castillo. But until then we have to have the lineup like it is.

  5. ToastyJoe says:

Willie just said on the FAN that he’s looking forward to going on “a nice little roll,” and that he was “a little disappointed” with this last road trip.

I swear to god, I wish I were making this up.

    • KinersKornerman says:

      Is Glavine writing his material?

    • metsfan119 says:

I don’t think “vanilla” adequately describes this guy anymore. How about “cone”?

    • NadyFan says:

If I hear “a nice little roll,” one more time from “Clueless Willie” I will……………………………….oh what the heck, just waisting my breath here.

  6. nymrod says:

If you smack Willie in the head, he will re-boot back to his original stubborness.

Ok, a hard enough hit to cause “brain damage” might bring about improvements. He could go from idiot to idiot savant.

  7. zen says:

if the mets sweep the d-backs…they have a higher winning pct than arizona who was practically undefeated in april ;)

  8. adam900 says:

At least Alou is back in the lineup tonight. Too bad Church is on the DL, and it’s still going to be the same old Mets even with this lineup.

  9. mex84 says:

Seems like we are always trying to dig out of a hole. That four game sweep was a real kick in the butt, especially when we seemed to be getting on a roll. Lets go Maine, get this train rolling.

    • darkstar73 says:

a kick in the butt? more like a kick in the face, or a kick in the balls, not exactly a kick in the butt. Nothing motivational about that series.

  10. ho-go says:

    Oy!

  11. Prismo says:

    Here come the thunderstorms…

  12. JavaJoe says:

I swear I won’t pull the football away Charlie.

OK, I’m back to thinking they can put a few together…..yes the ball is going to be pulled away and I’m going to spin in the air and fall on my face.

  13. MetsFan4Decades says:

So far, the Mets have not beaten the pitchers/teams they should have and have won against those that didn’t look at all possible. So…we take 3 here against AZ?
    (I can dream, can’t I?)

    • mex84 says:

yes. I mean YESSSSSS! This could be the start point! Wait, weather looks bad, nevermind.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

And even without the predicated thunderstorms, 100 degree weather is not good. So who goes down first with leg cramps? vote now….

Actually, I’m gonna try and be positive. Maine pitches a game like the second to last of last season.

        GO METS !!!!

  14. NadyFan says:

News Flash: Willie said he’s ‘At a loss for words”.

No Willie, it’s not words you lost, you lost the dam freakin TEAM!!!!!!!!

  15. NadyFan says:

OK, I think I got all that pent up Willie frustration out. Now back to baseball. Go Mets!

  16. dominicanboy08 says:

I really feel the mets will turn around and take revenge of the braves and padres. the phillies will not keep playing like that.

    LETS GO METS!!!!!…….LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!

  17. ebfnyc says:

I’d put a rusty Alou ahead of the current Delgado in that lineup.

Thankg-d Chavez is in there. Great drag bunter.

Dontrelle sent to single-A lol (just heard)l

  18. KinersKornerman says:

I got one thing that made me smile today:
“Braves Purchase Brian Lawrence’s Contract” hahahahahaha

  19. NadyFan says:

Everything always seems to happen in two. Remember how bad the NY Gianst looked the frist 2/3 of the season? Everyone had practically written them off from even reaching the palyoff. Well they went on one hell of a roll and won the whole dam thing. Also remember everyone was calling for Coughlin head and wanted him fired. Sound familiar? Like I said, things seem to run in pairs. Just trying to put a positive spin here. Go Mets!

    • KinersKornerman says:

      Can Eli play outfield?

      • NadyFan says:

LOL. Right now Eli can do no wrong. Already at such a young age a NY Sports legend. At least he’ll stay healthy allot longer than alou.

  20. metties1 says:

Johnny is gonna give the Mets their first no-hitter tonight!

    • khmustache says:

      you shot the clown

    • mex84 says:

He is hilarious to watch. I saw the game out in SF last week and he didnt give up any runs one inning, but when he left the field he looked like he s/b put on a suicide watch. He was all mopey and was smacking his glove. The guy really kicks himself around, but i guess it works.

  21. NadyFan says:

Too late buddy, first batter he faced got a hit. How about just not allowing a run in the first inning. I’ll settle for that.

  22. dominicanboy08 says:

did you see the jacket with long sleeves? what is wrong with this guy, it is 90 degree

  23. End the season says:

    Oh Jesus

  24. NadyFan says:

Oh well, there goes the shut out as well. here we go again. Freakin Groundhog day!

  25. zen says:

too bad the mets are not the government. at least we’d be protected from cruel and unusual punishment as per the 8th amendment.

  26. End the season says:

It is like Groundhog Day, except nobody is laughing

  27. NadyFan says:

This is boardering on Torture, which is also against the constitution.

  28. ebfnyc says:

if the Mets were the govt. they would leave Bush as president.

    Very exciting.

  29. NadyFan says:

I though “We the people” elect Presidents?

  30. NadyFan says:

Anyone notice you can hear a “Pin Drop” at Shea?

  31. khmustache says:

this umpires strike call is ridiculous…it’s like the naked gun screams

  32. metties1 says:

Nice and efficient Johnny. 28 pitches through 1…

  33. metties1 says:

    Phillies are down 3-0 too.

  34. backinbusiness says:

well just another day for the phillies, myers pitching, 1st inning, already gave up 2 HR. but it wont matter once the phils score 20 runs.

it drives me MAD that we are behind a team with such horrific pitching.

    • Dafatone80 says:

Look at the numbers, and you’ll see their pitching has been decent. Not great, but decent. Bullpen’s been great.

That’s what’s really carrying the team. The 20 runs a game don’t hurt, either.

  35. Metdamage says:

I really don’t get why guys in AA and AAA aren’t getting a shot. This season is almost toast. Mike Carp should get som MLB at-bats. Marlon Anderson, Damien Easley, Tatis, etc, should be traded for low A talent and let some fresh legs play.

I’d rather watch a team that resembles the 2005 squad than a bunch of old vines wither in the hot summer.

In 2005, Mike Jacobs emerged. Mike Carp can do the same. This time don’t trade him away.

  36. Church4prez says:

How bout H.R on the pre show saying castillo and reyes should swap spots?? I disagree

  37. mrosey says:

im sure thats Willies fault, right?

    • Metdamage says:

At this point who’s at fault no longer matters. There needs to be change. Not desperate change to save this season but change to secure a real long term title contending future. The window has closed for this Mets team. Its about time to start building a new one.

  38. OrangEandBlue says:

    Is Reyes stupid or something?

  39. OrangEandBlue says:

Wow, that is as hard as David Wright can hit the ball?

  40. Knuckles99 says:

    yuck.

    • OrangEandBlue says:

What a bottom of the first. Incredible. Bringing up Carp to play first, Daniel Murphy at right field, and Nick Evans at left cannot be much worse than this.

      • Metdamage says:

Agreed. I would not hate them for under performing like I do this team.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

        Oh ye of little faith……
        Tie score now.

      • Dafatone80 says:

        I disagree.

        =P

      • backinbusiness says:

        working out OK…

        • OrangEandBlue says:

One inning is not going to change my opinion on the extremely inconsistent Mets. When the Mets starting playing and winning on a consistent basis things will turn out well.

You guys really need to find the balance because you end up crying even more when they suck.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Dude, easy…they are up 3-1. Enjoy the game while you can.

        • Metdamage says:

Ok aren’t the mets 30-32? You can only enjoy a 3-1 lead in the 2nd inning so much. Its nice but not THAT nice.

  41. Pacman_Jones says:

    DELGADO IS MY BOY!!!

  42. mrosey says:

    nice all around

  43. Church4prez says:

    Delgado hustling????

  44. dominicanboy08 says:

    delcrapo, i mean delhit

  45. KinersKornerman says:

Hey, who’s that guy using Delgado’s uniform?

  46. khmustache says:

delgado! is the beast waking up?

  47. zen says:

the mets are 1-0 in games when delgado gets his uniform dirty. let’s make it 2-0!

  48. Pacman_Jones says:

Delgado has been making it rain on dem h0es!

  49. dominicanboy08 says:

    alou!!!!!

  50. khmustache says:

    THE HITTING MACHINE!!!

  51. Pacman_Jones says:

THATS WHY ALOUUUUU IS THE BEST HITTER ON THIS TEAM! AND MY FANTASY TEAM LOL!

  52. KinersKornerman says:

    Alou is back.

  53. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Alouuuuuuuuuuuuuuu !!
    And he’s BACK !!

  54. OrangEandBlue says:

Okay Johnnie lets get some pitching going at Shea today.

  55. Metdamage says:

Moises Alou is a machine with a bat. Fragile, but a machine.

  56. Ryan Synagogue says:

Heh that right, I knew there was a reason he was being paid

  57. NadyFan says:

Now tell me this team wasn’t missing a good right handed Bat?

  58. backinbusiness says:

anyone else think that picture they keep using of church in every “church’s brain is effed up” article looks more like schneider unless you squint?

  59. mex84 says:

Wow, a good start. Maine needs to shut the door!

  60. metties1 says:

Holy! This comments section is bipolar, huh? I love it!!

    • OrangEandBlue says:

      Bipolar? I did not notice.

    • khmustache says:

just noticed that…it is pretty funny

    • JefJarrett says:

      hahahha yes!

I watched the bottom of the first……then came on here to see what people’s comments were about Delgado and Alou….

And I see stuff complaining about the bottom of the first, and how bad this team sucks…..and I’m like….jeze….after 1 and 2 outs they were complaining.

      • OrangEandBlue says:

Mets fans are not complaining are 2 outs, they are complaining because of the 2007 collapse.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Can I complain about the 1988 playoffs, too?

        • JefJarrett says:

          Yes….

and I will piss and moan about almost blowing it in 1986.

        • Metdamage says:

Kiners…Yes you can! feel free to express whatever you feel because you are a Mets fan and I know on some levels 1988. like 2007, will hurt until the Mets actually win a world series.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Excellent. 1999 sucked too. Screw you Kenny Rogers!!!

  61. EliPorter says:

i was in the car listening to wfan. boy is howie rose something else? its too bad his sidekick is wayne hagin

  62. metz1 says:

    dave kingman for president!

  63. garykeithron says:

holy crap, this ump keeps scaring the crap out of me. But keep doing it while Maine is pitching

    • Wondy says:

I have the volume on my computer turned down pretty far (Gary, Keith & Ron are barely a mumble), but I still hear this piercing shriek every couple seconds….

      • garykeithron says:

it’s like, I’m half dozing in the heat, and then the operatic screech. “No sleeping during my game!”

  64. Wondy says:

Augie Ojeda is not in the lineup for AZ. I like our chances.

  65. OrangEandBlue says:

At this rate John Maine will not get past 5. Spring training 08 is far away now for Maine.

  66. metz1 says:

omar is currently looking in century village for some fresh talent.

  67. adam900 says:

Too bad Alou isn’t 10 years younger.

  68. KinersKornerman says:

Schneider: No running in MY HOUSE!!

  69. EliPorter says:

    slappy slapping

  70. Pacman_Jones says:

Can the camera man please go back to those two girls? Too bad Keith isn’t in the booth, he’d be having a field day with those two hotties.

  71. MetsFan4Decades says:

    YES !! D-Wright !!

  72. dominicanboy08 says:

    finally david!!!!

  73. Steve in DC says:

Nice, DW. God, I miss winning ball games.

  74. EliPorter says:

lets get through 5 innings before the rains come!

  75. adam900 says:

    WRIGHTEOUS!

  76. garykeithron says:

thank god. And more 2 out scoring !!!!

  77. OrangEandBlue says:

When David Wright gets it going, he gets it going.

  78. KinersKornerman says:

Finally a Clean up hitter !!! (sort of)

  79. OrangEandBlue says:

The skies are darkening and the Mets need to get through 5.

  80. playmaker3128 says:

You know something. I felt like this before todays series began. I feel now with pedro back, were at least going to get a quality start 3 out of the 5 days we play, with perez and pelfrey being a little up and down.

If we can get some semblence of offense we can turn this thing around. I know it sounds crazy, but if alou can stay healthy were a much better offensive team. If we can get church back its even better, and having marlon back helps a little bit as well.

That being said, prepare yourselfs for a rain delay real soon. I don’t know if we can make it through 5 before it hits. Looking at the radar a nasty line of storms will be in the area soon. Probably a delay, nothing where theyll cancel the game though IMO.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

‘You know something. I felt like this before todays series began. I feel now with pedro back, were at least going to get a quality start 3 out of the 5 days we play, with perez and pelfrey being a little up and down.’…

      I can get behind that….

    • Dafatone80 says:

That’s my biggest concern right now.

  81. OrangEandBlue says:

I’m scared that Seaver will embarrass himself and the Mets franchise everytime he talks.

  82. miker94 says:

    mr. met has ham hands

  83. playmaker3128 says:

On second thought, a quick inning or two for maine and i think we could make it through 5. Maybe then let vargas pitch after the delay. Especially if we still have a 4 run lead or more.

  84. teufelshuffle86 says:

WGAF about Tom Seaver’s winery. Just call the game.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Agreed. I feel like we’re watching Monday night football talking to a B-list actor who just finished filming “you, me and dupree”

  85. Metdamage says:

Reyes wouldv’e injured himself had he thrown that ball

  86. MetsFan4Decades says:

I can’t believe Seaver hardly watches baseball, just reads box scores. Once a player, never a fan? I remember Keith being interviewed once and he admitted he didn’t follow baseball right after his retirement….

  87. NYCESQ says:

“It’s about time they move into the 20th century.” – Tom Seaver

  88. EliPorter says:

    Another headache for the mets

    a giant retirement???

    CLEVER!

  89. mex84 says:

Maine is at 71 pitches thru 3 innings, insane!

  90. NYCESQ says:

Is it me, or has Gary and Ron looked very uncomfortable/awkward during this interview?

  91. Hellbelly says:

Tom Seaver is not only the greatest Met of all time He’s funny. He has a life outside of baseball. He’s opinionated.

    He’s the man.

Anyone who has a problem with Tom is just a cynical, too-cynical-for-their-own-good pseudo-fan.

  92. teufelshuffle86 says:

Take care Tom, now go back to your grapes.

  93. Flushing_is_Burning says:

Maine is going to need some quick outs if he wants to make it past the 5th

  94. EliPorter says:

theres thunder and lightning in central jersey…. LETS go maine, be efficient!

  95. zen says:

steve trachsel was released today. the mets are basically a .500 team since he left after 2006. omar…get it done.

  96. mrosey says:

wow. Upton got to that ball quickly. Bummer.

  97. OrangEandBlue says:

First Scott Hairston, then Justin Upton. Hit the balls a little bit lower David.

  98. KinersKornerman says:

    Fix your divit, Upton.

  99. EliPorter says:

    interesting story

my dad is a doctor in morris county, and today, he had a patient whose son is a catcher trying to play college ball. he lives in virginia, and it turns out his next door neighbor is billy wagner. wagner plays catch with this kid almost everyday during the offseason. apparently, wagner used to be right-handed, but when he was 9 years old, he broke his right hand and started throwing with his left hand

  100. Metdamage says:

With Webb vs. Pelfrey tomorrow, does anyone feel confident in a Met win streak?

    Anyone?

    • adam900 says:

no if they do win tonight, the win streak will stop tomorrow.

    • KinersKornerman says:

Let’s see if we can get this game under our belts before we feel not confident about tomorrow.

    • Dafatone80 says:

The Mets have generally had some success against Webb.

Some as in, he shuts us down, but we shut the DBacks down as well.

      We’ll see how it goes.

  101. MetsFan4Decades says:

Was just gonna say – Maine looks wiped. Guess that homer might be proof….

  102. Ludacrispat says:

    I’m going my rain dance.

  103. Darryl Strawberry says:

This game is far from over. I wouldn’t be suprised if we blow it. Just like the end of last year, this team keeps finding new/old ways to lose. Even if we take two out of three this series (which we won’t), we will still be under 500.

  104. NYCESQ says:

I am not going to pray for rain.

If they do in fact lose this game, it would be better then just letting the rain mask their inability to win a ball game.

I do not see them losing this game.

  105. NYCESQ says:

Dammit Micah, he just came off the DL!

  106. Metdamage says:

Alou out 6-8 weeks with a butt contusion symbolizing the 2008 mets season.

  107. nymrod says:

Did I miss the double switch?

  108. johnnyvegas77 says:

Double broken ankle, rear end contusion. Nice.

  109. WozzyBear says:

That should have been a foul ball strike!

  110. fatsfox says:

Wow Vargas works SLOW… it seems that this game has slowed to a snails pace.

  111. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice play, Louie

  112. backinbusiness says:

Uh Oh Augie Ojeda coming in

  113. OrangEandBlue says:

    Look! Its Augie Ojeda!

  114. nymrod says:

nice. at least maine will be fresh for the meaningless sept starts.

  115. WozzyBear says:

And tat would be why Vargas should NOT be working out of the pen.

Meanwhile, a very capable reliever in Carlos Muniz is sitting in AAA.

    • Metdamage says:

Not so, Vargas has been solid.

    • nymrod says:

Vargas is supposed to be long relief. I guess when you change relievers every out then trying to get one full inning is now “long relief” in Willie’s mind.

  116. OrangEandBlue says:

Man, another one of those magicless Mets game…

  117. wa2k99 says:

Ojeda is too freakin clutch. The opposite of most of our roster

  118. OrangEandBlue says:

Maine needs to find an out pitch because he cannot continue to go out there and average 24.5 pitches an inning. Unacceptable.

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

He had a nice curveball, but the jacket took it away.

      • OrangEandBlue says:

John Maine should just throw his curveball. Peterson let Zito throw a curveball. Why not Maine?

  119. metsforever says:

    Augie Ojeda, HOF

at least if he plays the Mets alot.

Folks, I don’t think this is going to end. This team just can’t’ ‘get out of its own way

  120. mets19 says:

Poll: Do you think the mets will win this game after giving up the lead? yes or no?

  121. metsjam says:

This is why Delgado cannot hit singles and help the Mets. It takes some serious hitting stats to make up for his defensive liabilities.

    • NYCESQ says:

Come on, you can’t blame that on Delgado. It would have taken a gold glover to make that play.

      • metsjam says:

No, what I am saying is that some 1st basemen would have made it, some wouldn’t. But the ones that wouldn’t should bring something else to the table, like 30HR and 100RBI. I’m pretty sure that the 1st basemen on every good team in MLB falls into one group or another (or both)

      • adam11216 says:

he hits like a gold glover.

  122. miker94 says:

when the mets were up 5-1 is there anyone here who actually had faith that they would win the game? amazing how in 06′ the mets could be down 1-5 and i always had faith that they would win the game. now they can be UP 5-1 and I have zero faith. you can call me negative all you want, but based on the results of this team, during this season, i’d say my lack of faith is quite justified.

  123. wa2k99 says:

    Tatis. Well done.

  124. backinbusiness says:

and HERE come the Phillies. GRRRRRRR.

  125. wa2k99 says:

    The king of the DP

  126. jerseymets33 says:

    gonna be a long delay

  127. khmustache says:

suspend the game…the mets need to get off the field

  128. khmustache says:

    there’s the girls again pacman!

  129. Ludacrispat says:

    BILLY! I love this guy!

  130. metsjam says:

I’m getting a feeling the Mets might not lose today!

  131. MetsFan4Decades says:

HAHAHA – check out the bullpen.

  132. nymrod says:

It should be Heilman, Peres and Delgado out there working the tarp.

  133. backinbusiness says:

here in philly once it started it rained/thunder 15-20 min tops, about an hour or so ago.

  134. ccmetfan says:

lets hope our lefties don’t injure themselves putting up the tarp

  135. ccmetfan says:

Imagine they played ”Enter Sandman” when Billy entered the field to hold down the tarp

  136. backinbusiness says:

CAREFUL PEN GUYS! Wagner to DL following tarp incident.

  137. backinbusiness says:

god forbid we hold the lead and get a rain shortened win.

  138. dominicanboy08 says:

    now its raining

  139. khmustache says:

serious question: is there anything worse than beer money?

  140. dominicanboy08 says:

lets hope the marlings finish up their gm

  141. adam900 says:

how long is this delay? Not like I want to see them lose anyway.

  142. metsfanmurph says:

We are not catching Philly they are playing with focus and drive.. I wouldn’t be surprised if they win 100. With that said they are highly beatable because their strength is that they play every game like its a playoff game and in the playoffs everyone plays like it’s a playoff game.

I think we should be playing for the wild card.

  143. metsfan1 says:

I agree that we are not catching Philly. In fact I don’t think we will be near the wild card either. Omar, think of the future. Start selling.

  144. the Straw says:

I disagree. I live in Philly. Their head is starting to get very big. They are starting to “SMELL THEMSELVES”. They are due for a little bit of a letdown. They will come back down to earth, its up to the Mets to pick it up and get this thing going in the right direction.
If the mets can get within 3 or 3.5 games of 1st place by the all-star break, things will be ok. Come the dog days of summer, starting pitching really is the key to the team.

And the mets SHOULD have better starting pitching than the phils.

    • dominicanboy08 says:

      agree

    • metsfanmurph says:

Philly’s lineup is too good to go on any kind of extended slump. They have three MVP’s.

      • KingWright says:

EVERYONE slumps, it’s just a matter of the Mets timing a good couple weeks during it and this season will look a lot better.

      • the Straw says:

are you serious…take a look at their past few seasons. they have been a very streaky team. real hot real slump.
true their lineup is ridiculous, but if their starters and bullpen (who have pitched out of their mind so far) let them down, they will slump.

We just need one Homerun by Pujols off Lidge to send him in a tail-spin.

    • Two-By-Four says:

OTOH since 2005 the Yankees have gotten off to horrendous starts only to charge back in the 2nd half not because of superior pitching but superior hitting.

But the Mets are going to have to gain 4 games on the Phillies before the ASB just to be in the position you want them to be in and they’re not going to do it if they don’t start playing better baseball.

  145. washtiger says:

Milledge hit GW 2-run HR tonight. Nats beat Pitt. Mets closer to last than first.

  146. metsfanmurph says:

Just watching the highlights and thinking…. have the Mets come back from 4 runs all season????

  147. teufelshuffle86 says:

Any chance they finish this game tonight? What’s the weather like in Queens?

  148. metsfanmurph says:

Since Billy Wagner stepped on the field to help the grounds crew is the media allowed to talk to him?

  149. MetsFan4Decades says:

Viagra used as a performance enhancing drug? Now I’ve heard everything.

  150. adam900 says:

Tarp coming off the field, resuming at 10:30.

  151. therealsince86 says:

Man, since when did this become the lickthephilliesballsblog? I agree they are playing well right now and we are not but they are not that damn good. Stop with the worshiping the Phillies. “Oh I wish the Mets played that hard” Blah Blah. I wish over the last 14 games the Mets had averaged 7 runs and had only allowed 3.5. Would that win ball games? Or was it because they were playing harder. Give it a rest.

    • metsfanmurph says:

Do you want me to give my honest opinion or have this dellusional opinion that the Mets can sustain any kind of run of good play. I think the sample size is large enough to realize that this Mets team is just average and this Phillies group plays every game like its a playoff game.

Just my honest opinion, I wish it weren’t true because there is no one who wants the Mets to win more than I do.

      • therealsince86 says:

I don’t think the Phillies are some magical team that all teams should model themselves after. I think they are a hot team that are hitting and pitching well at the same time. It’s happen before and it will happen again to all teams. When they put together an entire season of that “playoff” ball then I will consider them a great team. Until then you can go somewhere else and worship the Phillies.

        • KinersKornerman says:

TRS86, you are damn right. Fans are supposed to hate the rival teams , not worship them.

        • therealsince86 says:

I really don’t get this site anymore. It’s one thing to be constantly negative to your own team but to continually make the rival team better than what they are makes no sense at all. It’s like they want to add insult to injury.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Just a theory: could be Philly fans in disguise trying to piss you off.

        • therealsince86 says:

I wish it was man but these guys are actually “Mets fans”

        • metsfanmurph says:

I made the Phillies out to be a “magical team”? I said that they will probably win 100 games but will get beat in the playoffs. My main point was that I think the Mets should be concentrating on the wild card. That probably doesn’t matter because I don’t think 81-81 will win the wild card anyways.

        • therealsince86 says:

Phillies will win no more than 95 games and most likely it will be somewhere between 88-92.

        • therealsince86 says:

By the way, yes you did make the Phillies into a magical team. Do you realize that no team has won a 100 games since 2005? Not one team in 2006 or 2007 won 100 games but suddenly this Phillies team that is hot right now is a 100 win team.

  152. atrain311 says:

    Right on time…10:30

  153. MetsFan4Decades says:

Didn’t catch that Pedro was already penciled in…..

  154. Opponents are hitting .187 versus Maine in his five starts at Shea Stadium this season, in which he is 3-0. Maine is 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA in three career starts versus the Diamondbacks.

So they yank him after FIVE and rely on the bullpen for at least 4-innings, uhhuhhh.

Skirts need to start comin’ off of this team.

    • metsfanmurph says:

I don’t know Maine’s pitch count but I believe it was pretty high.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Dude he threw over 100 after 5, how long did you want him to go? He was clearly tiring as he gave up that 2 run bomb to O-dogg. If Willie brought him in for the 6th, everyone would have said “What’s wrong with Willie, he was tired and gave up a 2R BOMB to o-dogg.” This is coming from a Willie hater. Pulling Maine WAS the right decision…. for once.

      • metsfanmurph says:

I agree Pacman Jones. The only argument would be why is Vargas who is the long man pitching in the 6th inning of a two run game. I didn’t mind Vargas because the other option there is probably Heilman and I would rather see Vargas than Heilman.

    • KinersKornerman says:

Not sure you want to be referring to Maine and skirts in the same post.

  155. metsfanmurph says:

    nice job Pedro

  156. bootlegga24 says:

    alou out already?

  157. metaje says:

must win this game…phillies lost….time 2 turn in the other diection….cmoooooon

  158. Pacman_Jones says:

Wright needs to start hitting in the clutch. His stats are filled with AROD numbers.

  159. jerseymets33 says:

another beltran hard hit line drive

  160. Pacman_Jones says:

O-dogg – That’s why he wins the gold glove every year.

    • metsfanmurph says:

Omar that is why we should not have signed Castillo and waited a year to sign a 2B.

  161. teufelshuffle86 says:

Wow, Beltran rips a ball right at somebody. What else is new?

  162. therealsince86 says:

    Beltran continues his streak.

  163. Pacman_Jones says:

Joe smith for 2 innings, lets get it.

  164. WozzyBear says:

Geez….Beltran really does hit a ton of hard balls right at people.

  165. Pacman_Jones says:

For some odd reason, I feel that the Mets will be trailing 7-5 heading into the bottom of the 8th. Thoughts?

  166. metsfanmurph says:

Doesn’t everyone have someone like Alou at their job? The 20 year veteran who misses 4 months with a back injury and then works a month or two straight and everyone loves having them around and remembers why he is such a good employee. Then just when everyone is talking this veteran up about how good he is at his job he slips on a wet floor and is out two months.

  167. Pacman_Jones says:

Braves lose, Phillies lose, must win.

  168. adam900 says:

Joe Smith is amazing…. That is all.

  169. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, My, God. Will it never end….

  170. Pacman_Jones says:

Told you so, one more solo HR will come, probably will be given up by Show.

    • therealsince86 says:

Why does it seem you are more happy that you may be right than you would be if you were wrong?

      • Pacman_Jones says:

Trust me, I am not happy, whatsoever. I am just used to the nonchalant play of this team. The one positive of this, is it’s one loss closer to Willie’s demise.

    • therealsince86 says:

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, you were wrong. What now buddy?
Seriously, why would you come on a blog and make mulitiple post saying I told you so?
Are you a spoiled 14 year old?

      • Pacman_Jones says:

don’t have an orgasm. I was wrong by a run, I admit. I didn’t make multiple posts, one post was instant as it happened. The second was providing the theory behind the prediction.

        • therealsince86 says:

          “Told ya so. Game Over.”
“Told you so, one more solo HR will come, probably will be given up by Show.”

  171. teufelshuffle86 says:

Of course, I mean why would the Mets step up in a must win game?

  172. Hernandez_1B says:

    Game……set……..and match

  173. Darryl Strawberry says:

Prediction- In two weeks the Mets will be under 500 by ten or maybe even more games and the Yankees will be ten games over 500.

  174. ccmetfan says:

even Willie seemed annoyed but he can’t do anything else. Nothing is going their way this year

  175. KingWright says:

    This team is God awful.

  176. drodro22 says:

    this team is cursed

  177. Boooooo says:

is alou sleepy ? why is he out of the game?

Dont tell me he broke his ass on that HBP

  178. teufelshuffle86 says:

Mets to roll over and die in 3…2….1

  179. Pacman_Jones says:

Oh boy. Damion Easley followed by Schnider and Marlon Anderson. Can you say 1-2-3 inning?

  180. WrightsRight says:

    *sigh*

What’s there to say that hasn’t been said… luckily we have the big bats up now…er, or not.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

One guy hitting over .300 and he’s now on the bench. No ‘big bats’ in this lineup.

  181. Mr. Mets Butler says:

Hopefully Willie will pinch hit Abraham Nunez and he’ll hit a homerun.

  182. Knuckles99 says:

    can’t watch these scrubs

  183. metsfanmurph says:

Bad teams find ways to lose. When the Mets pitched well in San Diego they lost three 2-1 games. When they finally hit they gave up 8 runs. When they score 5 runs in tor two innings they don’t pitch or add runs.

  184. metsfanmurph says:

I hate bunting guys to 2nd base

    • drodro22 says:

agreed…..i hate giving away an out especially when you have poor hitters to follow….

  185. Pacman_Jones says:

Endy prediction, weak ground out to 2b, advancing the runner to third. Followed by pop up to 3b by Marlon to end the inning. SEEN. IT. ALL. BEFORE.

  186. metsfan119 says:

oh gee, what a shock, they’re going to blow an opportunity

  187. backinbusiness says:

Endy + Marlon = Magic, right?

  188. Pacman_Jones says:

Gee, Marlon Anderson. I heard he is a winner, just like Willie.

  189. Boooooo says:

    chavez is awesome this year

  190. metsfan119 says:

Talk about a teflon manager, I bet Willie could poison school children at this point and still keep his job

    • metsfanmurph says:

How is Willie a teflon manager??? He gets constantly booed and killed in the press. If anyone isn’t held accountable it’s Omar.

      • Don Hahn says:

why is Omar accountable? Willie doesn’t manage, the team is in a funk, during that whole SD series he did nothing to get them out of their slump, no hit and runs, no stealing, the mets have a ton a speed, he never uses it, has no clue how to use his bullpen, how was Vargas allowed to pitched to the Lefty, he was all over the place walking guys, hitting guys, hard outs, and you leave him in a critcal sitaution, guys throw to the wrong base, everytime Chavez threw the ball to the wrong base everytime tonight, this team needs a kick in ass, and Willie ain’t the guy, he’s bland

  191. Pacman_Jones says:

It’s ok, Marlon will ground out here. Show will give up 3 in the 9th, we’ll take it to the bottom down 9-5, but its ok, because the BIG BATS will be up! WOOT WOOT!

  192. metsfan119 says:

    AWESOME!!!!

  193. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Sigh…..

  194. Pacman_Jones says:

Nice pop up Marlon. Scrubs are done.

  195. drodro22 says:

god fkucking damnit…….im just so sick of this…..there is no god….

  196. backinbusiness says:

It is somewhat amusing that Gary and Ron are joking about Pagan and Wise disappearing into PSL. It is also fairly peculiar. I liked “Pagendy.”

  197. metsfanmurph says:

Didn’t see that coming!!! This team is so good with 2 outs and runners in scoring position.

  198. Boooooo says:

    when does training camp start?

  199. metsfan119 says:

It’s alright guys, let’s give Willie another couple of years, I’m sure he’ll work his motivational magic eventually

  200. Mr. Mets Butler says:

Fire Willie. He should have pinch hit Abraham Nunez.

  201. metsfan119 says:

    LET’S GO GIANTS!

  202. KGrules says:

Im not trying to be negative but how depressing is it that the pennant race is over in June. this team literally has no shot at coming back and it makes me so sad. not trying to be a front runner but this team is done!

  203. WrightsRight says:

Depressing state of affairs…can’t hold a 5-1 lead against their “worst” starting pitcher, and now we have Webb and Haren. Unbelievable. This team is in dire need of enema.

    • novanoto says:

“this town needs an enema!!!!!!”…translated to…this team needs an enema…not said with quite the same enthusiasm as good ol jack

  204. hi5wright says:

Well ya had to know it would happen. I have to change my name from hi5wright to KILL-ME-NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  205. garykeithron says:

they should have had nunez pinch hit. that was their downfall

  206. adam900 says:

Nice were fighting the Nats for last place soon.

  207. Flushing_is_Burning says:

at least try to keep it within reach

  208. Boooooo says:

gotta put some on maine tonight for that awesome 101 pitch outing through 5 innings.. gettin sick of these whiney baby pitchers and their puss faces on the mound.. santana and pedro need to teach the other three how to keep their composure..

  209. drodro22 says:

i want rick peterson and hojo gone……TOMORROW

  210. teufelshuffle86 says:

These type of guys (Anderson, Chavez, etc.) seem to have a short shelf life with the Mets. Both of them were great additions a couple years ago but they seem to always show themselves for being “bench players”. I think the Mets sit on guys lie this too long sometimes, instead of keeping the bench fresh. No reason we should be signing these guys to 3 and 4-year deals. Theye usually overstay their welcome by year three. Just sayin’.

  211. Mr. Mets Butler says:

He still has the 9th to pinch hit Abraham Nunez.

  212. metsfan119 says:

I think it’s time for the fans to break out the paper bags

  213. WozzyBear says:

Oh look, their .192 hitter gets a hit….

  214. metsfanmurph says:

    Alex Romero????? Are you serious?

  215. adam900 says:

Can’t even hold onto a 5-1 lead. Tomorrow is Webb then Haren. Kill me now.

  216. Pacman_Jones says:

Willie will never be fired. He would have been fired last September, it’s not happening, although it should and tonight.

  217. drodro22 says:

why does rick peterson still have a job?????

  218. WrightsRight says:

    Hah….double to alex romero…2nd big league hit…
    hopeless….

  219. Boooooo says:

someone should run onto the field ad take a dump on home plate

  220. Boooooo says:

im at the point where it is past funny.. i want this team to nose dive to 10 games under so EVERYONE GETS FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I

    HATE

    THESE

    METS!!!!!

  221. Mr. Mets Butler says:

You guys need to relax. There is some Abraham Nunez magic in the air tonight. I can sense it.

  222. Pacman_Jones says:

    Let’s go cowboys.

  223. metsfanmurph says:

Well at least I have the NBA draft to look forward to. Then it’s July and I go on vacation so that will get me to August. Then it is Jets preseason football which leads me into the NFL season and Notre Dame’s first game. So things are looking up.

  224. Knuckles99 says:

I hate Delgado. I hate Willie and Minaya. I hate Beltran, Reyes, Castillo, Castro, Alou, Perez, Heilman, Metsblog, Mets.com, Mets fans, and myself. There, I think that covers everyone.

  225. garykeithron says:

blog went bipolar again….anyone know a doc who can fix this?

  226. drodro22 says:

peterson should be gone by tomorrow…..PLEASE OMAR AND THE WILPONS FIRE THESE TERRIBLE COACHES…

  227. Pacman_Jones says:

I knew the 5-1 lead wasn’t safe. 8-1 wouldn’t have been safe with these bums, Sanchez would give up a 2R HR right here to tie it at 8-8. This team is dead, goodnight. Football training camp starts in 2 months! LETS GO DALLAS!

  228. MetsFan4Decades says:

    I am just completely speechless……

  229. metsfanmurph says:

I hope the Wilpons are watching this crowd is a preview for September.

  230. Pacman_Jones says:

Like I just said, Sanchez 2R HR. Can you guys give me any credit for these predictions yet?

    • therealsince86 says:

OK, you are Nostrafriggindomas. Does that make you happy? Can you stop with the stupid predictions? Anyone watching this team right now could pick the worst thing to happen and it most likely would.

  231. metsfan119 says:

    YEAHH!!!!! LET’S GO METS!!!!

Thank god they had that pre-game meeting

  232. WozzyBear says:

Yup…THAT’s your ball game folks! You’re 2008 Muts!

  233. Mr. Mets Butler says:

    Yeah….LETS GO TEAM! rah rah

  234. Pacman_Jones says:

Willie’s fired tonight, that’s safe to say.

  235. Boooooo says:

    8-5

    nice

can i hear a ‘back to back sweep’?

  236. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    WTF! Good night folks!

  237. hi5wright says:

Today i looked up Optimistic [2008] Mets Fan in the dictionary and thesaurus and here’s what i found:
Definition: someone who cant deal with the truths of the world
Thesuarus: idiot, stupid, dillusional, crazy, Willie Randolph

    • metsfanmurph says:

Omar Minaya isn’t in that mix? He is the GM that relied on Pedro, Alou, Delgado, and Duaner Sanchez.

      • Don Hahn says:

Omar is to a degree, but Willie has no clue, except how to write a lineup card, he’s couldn’t get a job until the Mets , he interviewed how many times? maybe there was a reason, what hsi managerial style? the Mets have speed , does he use it? nope, what does he do as a manager except stand on the top step

  238. therealsince86 says:

Obviously at this point, changes have to be made.

  239. Knuckles99 says:

    yikes

  240. teufelshuffle86 says:

Well, even Duaner Sanchez has looked unbelievably mediocre this year too. Jesus.

  241. wa2k99 says:

    F*** this franchise.

  242. WrightsRight says:

honestly, this is ridiculous….wholesale changes need to happen now.

And it all started with that pipsqueak Augie Ojeda. He’ll get a plaque on the Hall of Met Killers with Chipper, Kelly Johnson, Pat Burrell, the entire Phillies team, …..

  243. dr jones says:

screw this org, screw this team,,, and screw you

  244. drodro22 says:

i’ve lost it on this game…..hey Jeff Wilpon, YOU HAVE NO BALLS…..I’m calling you out, YOU ARE A PUSSY…..and your dad fred is an old shtibag!

  245. Steve in DC says:

I hate myself for staying up, night after night while they were on the West Coast and now with the rain delay. I hate having to rush in the morning ’cause I’m tired and therefore late, and I hate every time I think I see a glimmer of hope just to have these bums give me heartburn. I know it’s just a game and I’m an adult, but man….

  246. garykeithron says:

ok, time for bed…no more of this torture. Isn’t it time to become Raysblog now?

  247. CLYONS says:

    7 unanswered runs

  248. Mr. Mets Butler says:

I still believe Abraham Nunez will win this game for us.

  249. KingWright says:

This team just dies over the course of a game. They completely die. Get rid of the manager, nobody is whipping these bums into shape. Remind them they play in New York, and are professional baseball players. Play hard from the first inning to last. This is pathetic.

  250. NYCESQ says:

Johan looked like he wanted to cry.

  251. teufelshuffle86 says:

Time to add a ‘0′ choice to the “confidence meter”

  252. latorrem1 says:

Man the fall cannot come quick enough, when do the Giants and Islanders start?? I cannot take this anymore. I used to tell all my Phillies friends that last yr was a fluke. Maybe the 2006 Mets were a fluke!!

  253. Pacman_Jones says:

    HOME RUN DERBY AT SHEA!

  254. drodro22 says:

    FIRE RICK PETERSON TOMORROW

  255. NYCESQ says:

    Make trades now.

This team doesn’t have the right kind of chemistry. They just aren’t working well together.

    • metsfanmurph says:

What trades can be made??? Our farm system is depleted, we have huge untradable contracts, and every position is filled with one of those aforementioned contracts.

      • KingWright says:

Man, I remember saying the same thing about the Yankees over the past years. How scary is that.

      • therealsince86 says:

What huge untradeable contracts are you refering too? Santana and Beltran’s? Wright and Reyes contracts are great. Castillo’s is too long but cheap. Pedro, Elduque, Delgado and Alou are FA at year’s end.

  256. MetsFan4Decades says:

Unbelievable. There might be 5000 fans left in the stands but everyone of them are booing in tandem.

  257. metsfanmurph says:

This is like a bad car crash I can’t stop watching…. but it is every night.

  258. teufelshuffle86 says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  259. metsfan119 says:

Well, I guess I’ll start rooting for the Rays and the best young starter the Mets don’t have to keep the Yankees out of the playoffs. That’ll be the only entertainment I’ll get from this shtty baseball season.

  260. ccmetfan says:

Good thing I have Hudson, Jackson ,Wright staring on my fantasy teams. I benched Drew though, bummer

  261. WrightsRight says:

I honestly feel bad for Johan Santana (okay, not THAT bad, he’s making a boatload…), but he is absolutely wishing he was back in Minnesota right now….

    • therealsince86 says:

They have basically the same record as us, sad huh. But i guess because of expectations their fans are actually rooting for the team instead of booing.

  262. Pacman_Jones says:

Aaron Heilman will save the day!

  263. teufelshuffle86 says:

Sanchez really keeping us in this one tonight.

  264. NadyFan says:

I’m actually sitting here laughing to myself, what else can I do?

    • metsfanmurph says:

I laugh hysterically every five minutes and cry hysterically every five minutes.

  265. anonymii says:

    8 unanswered runs. not bad.

  266. bootlegga24 says:

Im just gonna start cutting myself instead of watching these games. Its the same idea but it doesnt take 3 hours

  267. Knuckles99 says:

    Peterson’s hair is awfully gray.

  268. NYCESQ says:

Someone buy Duaner a Mach3 and some Viagra, please.

  269. Steve in DC says:

On the bright side (and here I go again, the glass is half full, lets go mets, etc) both the Phillies and the Braves lost, so we don’t lose any ground in the standings… just with the fans.

  270. Mr. Mets Butler says:

I think I am going nuts! THIS TEAM SUCKS!!!! I’m wasting electricity to watch this FRICKIN’ game.

Major changes needed Wilpons. MAJOR. LIKE….RIGHT NOW!!!

  271. teufelshuffle86 says:

Pretty sure I just heard a “you suck Rick” as he trotted back to the dugout.

  272. Runshouse says:

O man do they suck, you just have to laugh at it now and just wait out this disaterous team.

  273. MetsFan4Decades says:

The only silver lining in all this is when you hit rock bottom, there is only one way to go – up……
Of course, they gotta get to that bottom rung to even start the climb.

    • metsfanmurph says:

This team has hit rock bottom about 30 times this year

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

They hit rock bottom on Sunday, they’ve gone down a notch today.

    • WrightsRight says:

okay, let’s see, how many times have they hit rock bottom this year? They are somewhere near the earth’s core….
      …but this is particularly bad….

  274. Knuckles99 says:

If more people where there, Willie could hear it.

  275. Boooooo says:

hey is the rain delay over yet? theyre showing some replay of a game where the mets had a lead and are now getting destroyed in the 9th inning..

oh wait, thats not a replay

  276. Lets_Go_Mets says:

    BOO-URNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  277. NadyFan says:

Look at the bright side. Willie’s gone, trust me.

  278. NYCESQ says:

Yea, it has gotten pretty comical.

  279. teufelshuffle86 says:

Of course in a situation like this Heilman will come in and mow this next hitter down in three pitches.

  280. Mr. Mets Butler says:

I least we get to watch a great picher now in Heilman.

  281. NadyFan says:

    Of course, no pressure

  282. metaje says:

when are we gonna fire that stupid pos manager,…..wheeeennnnnnnnnnnnnn

  283. youknowwhatimsayin says:

    This team is a joke.

But hey, Alou is back, baby. He makes the Mets “better”… Just ask Gary Cohen.

  284. NadyFan says:

    Possibly this week.

  285. Boooooo says:

i want a three run homer here..

  286. miker94 says:

boy this team is fun to watch! why did God have to torture me like this, make me a notre dame college football fan and a mets fan. will i ever be happy in my sports world? i doubt it!

    • Boooooo says:

add the jets and knicks to that for me

thank god i took up golf, gives me somethign to watch for four daysa week.

    • novanoto says:

im with you man, im with you…add the jets and islanders for me to that list…

  287. metsjam says:

I’ve focused on the Mets linup woes this year. But almost as important is the misuse of the pitching staff. Every game we throw out 4, 5 or 6 pitchers. The odds that at least 1 of them will have an off night is huge. Tonight it’s Sanchez. No other team has as many pitching changes than the Mets.

  288. drodro22 says:

Hey Cerrone, when you give your report on SNY, if you are “impartial” as you say, then report that the pulse of the fans is they feel CHEATED by everyone from the players, the coaches, the manager, the GM, and especially the owners….Let them prove that they don’t just care about money! I challenge anyone in the organization to prove they actually CARE about this team…..FKUCK Citi Field, it’s just a cheap way to continue to sucker us out of our money…..

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Are you kidding me? Revenue from game tickets doesn’t come close to the revenue from suckers like me watching the game on SNY……
I’m a fan obsessed though. Just can’t turn it off.

  289. backinbusiness says:

for some reason the umps STEEEEEEEEERIIIIKKKKKE is particularly annoying right now.

    just forfeit.

solid 100 fans left at shea making some noise.

  290. NYCESQ says:

How do they do this? When they scores runs, the pitchers blow it.

When the pitchers keep the game close, we can’t buy a hit?

This is like the twilight zone.

  291. Mr. Mets Butler says:

Abraham Nunez can still grand slam and tie the game if Aaron holds it here. Let’s keep our heads up.

  292. scottmetsfan says:

CALLING FATHER KARRIS: WE OFFICIALLY NEED AN EXORCIST

  293. NYCESQ says:

Get Dunn. That will change a lot.

  294. throatneedle says:

look i know this sounds crazy but could our bullpen collapsing almost every game after the 5th inning be caused by schneider not knowing our relievers and calling horrible pitches in certain situations? i hate to think that sanchez, feliciano, and heilman suck THIS much this year

it sounds like i’m grasping at straws but it’s a thought

  295. metsfanmurph says:

Anyone know any good summer hobbies???

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Counting every blade of grass would be preferable to this horror show right about now….

    • Boooooo says:

thres a team in the NL called the ‘Phillies’ … i hear they have a lot of heart and a nice squad..

maybe we should start watching them?

    • MetsRmilife says:

Fishing, too bad i usually bring a radio and listen to the game

  296. NYCESQ says:

At least Reyes didn’t swing at the first pitch.

  297. teufelshuffle86 says:

Here comes the first pitch pop up to Reyes.

  298. Hernandez_1B says:

The only good thing is that at least the Mets are falling out of contention now instead of in Sept. Now I can enjoy my summer and look forward to football season.

  299. NadyFan says:

    Get ready, slappy’s up!

  300. teufelshuffle86 says:

If Sanchez hadn’t given up two HR’s last inning, that would have gotten some mild excitement out of me.

  301. backinbusiness says:

good news: a slappy DP would not end the game.

  302. hi5wright says:

Heilman: THANK GD they want my as* outta here. I may get traded before the season is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Santana: Screw you Castillo, its your fault I’m on this CRAPPY team. Maybe I’ll just take the easier route and cut my hand off
Wilpons: So much for our beautiful green recycled seats-they arent even gonna be used :( aww, Baa Waa

  303. drodro22 says:

metsjam has it figured out……..willies obsession with bringing in as many pitchers as possible increases odds of running into a pitcher on an off night…..

  304. NYCESQ says:

Best case scenario: Castillo with a bunt 2run hr.

  305. miker94 says:

when you all wake up tomorrow morning, you will all be reading that Hojo was fired after this game, watch, it will happen!

    • bootlegga24 says:

that will probably turn everything around

      • miker94 says:

might not turn everything around, but it’s one thing that won’t be the exact same as the rest of the season. gotta do something, ANYTHING!

    • Boooooo says:

yeah, that will do a lot.

hopefully he will take petersen and randope with him..

      FIRE EVERYONE!!!

Why not, hom much worse could it get?????

  306. teufelshuffle86 says:

Bunting down 4 runs? Good call.

  307. metsfanmurph says:

Is it in the MLBPA contract that if you are white and what to become a good closer you have to grow facial hair and gain weight????

Lyons used to be 190 pounds and clean shaven.

  308. wa2k99 says:

Please just go down quickly. Stop torturing us.

  309. Boooooo says:

    best case scenario…

a meteor falls on the stadium, killing only the mets..

  310. teufelshuffle86 says:

Can Reyes steal two bases here?

  311. metsfanmurph says:

Having two 5 game losing steaks in a month is always good.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

In all fairness the first one was last month, but one each month is also good.

  312. breadclock says:

Castillo ceases to amaze us with his pitching mound power.

  313. metsfanmurph says:

    Thats about right

  314. Knuckles99 says:

    sucka!!!

  315. NYCESQ says:

That was the epitome of our season thus far. Right on the warning track…and nothing.

  316. drodro22 says:

wright gets robbed so much……its just really bad luck…..

  317. metsfan119 says:

come on Beltran, pad your stats

  318. bootlegga24 says:

Id like to see beltran take a fastball to the nut right here

  319. wa2k99 says:

Ugggh, what a shock… Easy for AZ to hit it out!

  320. NadyFan says:

    Pelfrey Vs Webb Tomorrow.

  321. miker94 says:

    i HATE beltran’s song

    • anonymii says:

      It has gotten annoying.

    • Boooooo says:

      Willie says:

“Hey man, you know, it was a battle out there. everyone battled.

My hitters were battling.. thenthe wind started battling.. i started batling a booger in my nose, then i saw that we were losing and i was like.. oh snap..i better take out alou, and bring in all my pitchers..

you know guys its a long season.. we are gonna be ok.. we will just get him tomorrow… oh webb is pitching? well we’ll just get them on thursdya then.. haren is pitching.. damn… i hope i get fired!”

  322. teufelshuffle86 says:

Into which fielder’s glove will Beltran smoke this ball?

  323. WrightsRight says:

honestly, they might be the worst team in the NL. Not necessarily their record but if they lose this game, that’s two 5 game losing streaks this season. Never happens with championship-caliber teams. Getting 4-game sweeps twice within 18 days. Worst bench average in the NL. Other stats that are among the worst….by and large, “second division” teams have had their way with them…… recipe=worst in the NL…

  324. NYCESQ says:

I will begin suing the Mets organization if changes do not happen soon.

  325. NadyFan says:

I’m really starting to feel sory for Willie. I must not get any sleep at night.

  326. adam900 says:

    **** this team.

  327. mets19 says:

    Absolutely pathetic

  328. MetsFan4Decades says:

There just isn’t anything more to say that hasn’t already been said.

    Until tomorrow night…..

  329. teufelshuffle86 says:

Can’t wait for a stellar performance from Pelfrey tomorrow.

  330. NadyFan says:

    Pathetic doesn’t do it justice.

  331. NadyFan says:

I like Harold, the guys calls it like it is.

  332. drodro22 says:

trade beltran alou and delgado……trade heilman……trade oliver perez…..what do they have to lose??????? but more importantly Rick Peterson and Hojo need to go….

  333. bootlegga24 says:

I wish there was some way to keep these fking losers from getting paid

    • metsfan119 says:

the only thing fans can do is stop showing up at games

      • Boooooo says:

and the retards wont.. they are still there clapping when reyes gets a hit down 4 uns in a HORRIBLE RAIN DELAY GAME!!!!

GO HOME… CURSE PEOPLE OUT… GIMME A BREAK!!! STOP CHEERING YOU MORONS!!!!!

        • therealsince86 says:

Again, nice post Booooo. Why can’t you understand that no matter what some fans will cheer their team? I think this team sucks right now but I will continue to root for them and hope that they can turn it around.

      • bootlegga24 says:

yeah but they still get their millions. I wanna get on a subway and see beltran panhandling

  334. teufelshuffle86 says:

Fitting that the Mets website has Wright and Reyes hi-fiving each other.

  335. WrightsRight says:

trade them all for the phillies

    • therealsince86 says:

You know, you don’t have to trade all the Phillies to the Mets to root for them. It’s ok, it’s a bandwagon year for them and they will always take you over there.
Again, talk bad about the Mets all you want but why is it everyone on here seems to have became Phillies worshipers?

      • drodro22 says:

you are not the metsblog king…..so just stop

        • therealsince86 says:

Who said I was. I just put an opinion on here that has meritt. Just like all the rest of this garbage on here. You think it’s ok that 100 post on here talk about how great the Phillies are?

      • WrightsRight says:

dude, i’m just frustrated, and was obviously kidding. i hate the phillies as much as anyone. i don’t worship those guys but i do admire their grit and ability to come back and wish the mets would have some of that. It’s just getting incredibly frustrating.

        • therealsince86 says:

Admire their grit? How hard is it when you score 7 runs a game and give up 3? They are hot right now, it has nothing to do with this imaginary “gritt”

        • WrightsRight says:

“imaginary grit” – there have been a ton of instances where they’ve been down and have come back late. They have grit just like this team had grit back in 2006. I have no problem giving them props in that regard. I still hate them, but i see nothing wrong with giving them some props.

And no, i would not trade any of our guys for them – unless we somehow suckered them into giving us Utley for Castillo…

  336. NadyFan says:

I Honestly believe anyone on here can do a better job than Willie and the other bums.

  337. Boooooo says:

my fesces can do a better job

  338. drodro22 says:

the reason the mets get shut down by first time starters and bullpens is b/c they don’t do their homework…..their advanced scouting is a joke…..all the money they spend on these big time free agents would be better spent getting a GOOD ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE

    • Boooooo says:

      AGREED!!!!

We always get shut down by first time pitchers, and then randope says.. well we had no approach, weve ever seen that guy..

FCK YOU!! HE THROS STRIKES.. ITS BASEBALL!!!!

  339. NadyFan says:

    What organization?

  340. bluecapsonly says:

Willie: Great swing David, thanks for putting us up 5-1, take the rest of the night off.

    Wright: Really Skip?

Willie: Yeah, and the same goes for the rest of you players too. Is not like we need any urgency after a 4 game sweep from the Padres.

    Wright: Gee, thanks Coach

  341. EV says:

Can we please FIRE OMAR and WILLIE ASAP !!!. In over 25 years I’ve never said this, CAN FOOTBALL SEASON PLEASE START ALREADY!!!. I’ll drive the Giants up to Albany tomorrow if they would let me. On a funny note, some Jet fan called Kay today and said that Lance Miehl was a better linebacker than LT. First off, who the hell is Lance Miehl and second he couldn’t even lace up the GREATEST LINEBACKER EVER TO PLAY THE GAME Shoelaces. I got tickets for Saturdays game and there is a promotion for a replica of shea, I’m going to get the replica and then I’m turning right around and going home because I’m actually embarassed to admit that I’m going to Shea and I don’t want to waste my Saturday night watching this lifeless, heartless team.

  342. NadyFan says:

Every team can’t wait to play the Mets. What a freakin joke.

  343. NadyFan says:

It hurts to watch this, seriously. Poor Willie.

  344. Boooooo says:

there goes willie, just like i said.. “WE KEPT BATTLING, HITTING THE BALL RIGHT AT PEOPLE”

I will pay Mrs. Randolph $1 if she puts a pillow over his face tonight!!!!!

  345. miker94 says:

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, they need to fire hojo. the mets were prepared for the starting pitcher, and came out scoring 5 runs in the 1st two innings. then the pitcher eventually comes out and the mets can’t buy a run. same story, different night. what does that show us? it shows that they are not making any adjustments at the plate with new pitchers, and they have no calculated approach at the plate. that’s hojo’s job! they are just going up there hacking, and it’s obviously not working. they need to get rid of this guy and make a trade or two, even if it’s a lateral trade and then MAYBE we might see some change on this team. otherwise, forget it!

    • KingWright says:

      Best comment of the night.

    • therealsince86 says:

I actually agree with you for once. Willie and Hojo both need to go but Hojo tonight. Peterson I would not mind seeing go either but not until we are completely out of it. I would think it’s hard to change pitching coaches mid season.

      • miker94 says:

glad we could agree on something, and you are right, they all need to go but peterson would be tough to replace in season. but no question about it, he needs to go. actually i’d say him and hojo should go before willie. but lets face it, willie isn’t going anywhere. but hojo might. and it might just be tomorrow!

  346. NadyFan says:

    “I saw some positive signs ” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Willie you’re F……cking clueless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  347. drodro22 says:

    wilpons suck……

  348. NadyFan says:

I kid you not he just said that

  349. NegativeFan says:

I’m very happy they lost. I want this blown up and meaningless wins don’t help.

That said…..Maine is a dog. He’ll never be more than a #3 at best if he can’t get his sh*t together.

He’s going to be a building block left here after they blow this sh*t up. And he’s GOT to step up and learn economy of pitches

  350. Two-By-Four says:

It has gone beyond pathetic. They are a bad ballclub. We’re seeing the same play as in last years meltdown.

  351. Boooooo says:

alou said his calf ws stiff…

    i hope he retires tonight…

  352. Boooooo says:

when is a reporter goign to ask a real question like:

WY DO YOU SUCK AS A MANAGER YOU PIECE OF SHT?

  353. NadyFan says:

Yeah but don’t forget, he said he saw some positive signs!

  354. Runshouse says:

More softball post game questions for Willie…

If they were any softer Kevin Buhrkhart could join the pen.

  355. Boooooo says:

    burkhart is a dip sht…

could you ask anymore pssyquestions there kev? How about…

What does it feel like to be the laughing stock of professional baseball?

  356. grotesmask says:

Must be a test of our devotion. Can’t take too much more.

No Team here, plain and simple!

  357. Boooooo says:

next time im in NYC, im waiting for the game to end, going to the SNY studio, and standing behind these jackazzes with a sign that says

    MY

    ENTIRE

    TEAM

    SUCKS

    and the back will say

    Fck the wilpons!!!!!

  358. EV says:

I hear what you are saying but what do you want Willie to say the truth: My team sucks, this is more Omar’s fault than mine, stick a fork in us we are done, he can’t say that.

  359. Mr. Mets Butler says:

Willie looked like a man on death row tonight. It’s sad. It really is.

    • Boooooo says:

      SAD FOR US!!!

And the stankees will now rise to the top, make the wildcard, and we will be OUT of the playoffs yet again…

      this is totally unacceptable

  360. WrightsRight says:

I’m waiting for someone to pull a circa-1970s NY Giants stunt and fly a plane over Shea with a banner reading, “2 Seasons of Mediocre Baseball – We’ve Had Enough”

  361. Boooooo says:

at least we found out that our lefties can hold a tarp down..

i wouldve used heilman for that though..not wagner..

  362. EV says:

Yea Boo do that, you better do it soon because no one wil be watching Mets games anymore. I’m sure by the weekend their season will be over. I’m thinking 1-5 homestand maybe 2-6, they are getting swept by the DBacks, poor Santana will give up 2 runs again and probably lose, what a disgrace.

  363. NadyFan says:

Have to unsubscibe to Mets.com. After every game I get an email Alert with the post game recap. Adding insult to injury.

  364. metaje says:

wiilies ass should have been fired last year….we needed a fresh start without that dumb ass look ofhis in the dugout

  365. EV says:

After watching Sanchez pitch, I wish they put the tarp over him. My only hope is the Spankees don’t make the playoffs, they are not the Spanks of old, there is a pretty good shot that they won’t. If this continues, you won’t even be able to go to the Subway series because Shea is going to be loaded with more Spanks fans than usual.

  366. NadyFan says:

I feel like I’ve been transported back to last Sept. Same questions, same answers, same blank stares, same apathy.
Unbelievable. Nothing, and I mean nothing has absolutely changed. Does everyone get that sinking feeling from last Sept. What’s changed, honestly.

  367. NadyFan says:

Give the town back to the Yankees man, I just don’t care anymore. We have no team.

  368. NadyFan says:

I think this is all part of George Steinbrenner’s evil master plan to have Willie manage the Mets into Oblivion!

  369. EV says:

100 percent right Nady it does feel like last year. The same team is back except for adding a couple of players like Church and Santana, and obviously it’s not enough, they needed to change up the core of this team and they didn’t do it.

  370. WrightsRight says:

The Gipper is anything but an optimist….

  371. therealsince86 says:

Nice Booooo. Way to show some class. Calling posters names for rooting for their team. I will be here when we win and when we lose. There is no reason for your garbage. And by the way, get your facts straight Gipper is not an optimist he is normally opposed to my statements he is just able to speak intelligently.
I don’t even know why I am responding to you.
