How can people complain about this? There is more to life then baseball, ala charity! Good for the Mets to find time in their busy schedule to help people out.

Karma anyone? Maybe this will help...

I don't know about 6 hours. They're already taking public batting pratice 2.5 hours before the game, and by then they've usually been there for hours. Like 1pm and then don't get to leave until probably 11. but I guess that's besides the point. A lot of these guys would be up working out anyway, and a short trip somewhere for a couple of hours is basically nothing. It's not like it was interfering with anything other than the ability to not leave their beds all day, but no one is suggestingtaht's what they were doing.

Travel has come a long way in baseball. sure 3 hour time changes are kind of annoying, and a couple of long plane trips frequently are kind of a pain, but it's definitely not an excuse.

I think it's more of an issue than other sports though. often times baseball players have to travel in the night, don't get much sleep, play in two cities back to back days..etc. Football players have plenty of time to get to a new city, all they have to do is sit on a plane, hell they're already over jet lag by the time the game rolls around. They have almost a week from landing to playtime.

Maybe they were prescient back in the Spring, and knew that this was one of the few forums where the team was guaranteed to get applause. It was also a relatively risk free way to spend a day for our injury prone players.

Haha exactly. This is how my mind works:

Oh man, bloew a 5-1 lead and lost. Tough loss. God dang they can't get it together. If I go to Metsblog right now my computer will start smoking. It might blow up. I wonder what these guys are saying on the blog right now. But what's the point in checking? I know what they're saying? Forget it, I watched the game with my own eyes I don't need to hear other people complain about it.

this is not fun for me. this is not fun for you. this is not fun for them. but i bet it's really not fun for the metsbloggers who have to write something everyday about the team while trying to be politically and commercially correct...to a degree.

gentlemen. this medalla's for you!

In other sports I understand the travel qualms. I understand because most other sports are contact sports. Sure baseball is a very long season, greuling on the mind, takes a physical toll, etc....but the reason these men are able to play 162 games is because the game is simply not that demanding on the body. Yes these guys need to be in shape to maximize their abilities, etc. But there's no tackling, no fouling, no checking - maybe once every 6 games there's a catcher getting bowled over at home plate. But I just HATE this travel shmavel excuse used for baseball teams. The Mets have made these trips before and come out winning most of their games. That's it, case is closed.
