According to Adam Rubin at his blog for the Daily News, Triple-A OF Chris Aguila is on his way from New Orleans to Shea Stadium.

For more on Aguila, be sure to read Rubin’s post.

Aguila was hitting .318 with 17 HR and 40 RBI in 218 at bats.

He is batting .353 against left-handed pitching, with a .413 OBP.

In a recent report for ESPN.com, fantasy baseball guru Erik Karabell wrote:

“The Mets might want to take a look at Aguila in the outfield…Yes, this is the same singles hitter who did very little in the Marlins outfield…but he’s playing well and hitting for power now.”

Aguila hit .234 with 18 extra base hits and nine walks in 141 games played for the Marlins between 2004 and 2006.

Ted Berg and Val Pascucci are not going to be happy about this news!

Ted Berg June 11, 2008 at 12:54 pm

I can’t speak for Pascucci, but I’m thrilled. Similar type of player, and one I’ve been advocating (maybe not as loudly as Pascucci) for a while.

Ferragamo June 11, 2008 at 1:04 pm

I was just kidding around Ted I know you’ve been showing love to both Aguila and Pascucci, maybe a little more for Valentino. Lets hope Aguila can come up and contribute something to this team, god only knows we need it.

GravediggerHebner June 11, 2008 at 12:48 pm

Great news, as Pascucci has no fielding ability and Valentin is probably better as a coach at this stage.

NorfolkTides June 11, 2008 at 12:50 pm

Meh. We’ll see what he does. It can’t hurt at this point. How old is this guy? Also, I wonder if he’ll get to start much, and if so whose spot he takes…

metfan435 June 11, 2008 at 12:52 pm

He is 29 and I would bet he will platoon with Endy.

Dirtysanchez June 11, 2008 at 12:53 pm

Yep but new blood on this team. Lets see what the kids got.

all162 June 11, 2008 at 1:55 pm

according to wikipedia, Aguila has been doing Polynesian fire knife dancing since he was in the fifth grade. that’s exactly what the mets need in the dugout.

NCMetsGuy June 11, 2008 at 12:56 pm

Can he play a little 1B?

GravediggerHebner June 11, 2008 at 1:00 pm

He hasn’t in the majors, but I think Arizona State was eliminated from the post season so maybe Ike Davis is available.

bigchart333 June 11, 2008 at 12:59 pm

he should be playing every day wile church is on the DL. He’ll only be up here for a little bit, give him EVERY chance to show the team he deserves to STAY here

Fregosi June 11, 2008 at 1:03 pm

The winning streak starts today.

SheaVendor June 11, 2008 at 1:04 pm

Willie will bat him 8th and he’ll see absolutely nothing to hit!

chew13 June 11, 2008 at 1:10 pm

Probably. That 8th slot in the lineup should be Schneider’s everyday that he’s in the lineup. Willie refuses to seriously shuffle the order. I would like to see. Assuming everybody is healthy

Reyes
Beltran
Wright
Church
Alou
Delgado
Castillo
Schneider
Pitcher

zer09 June 11, 2008 at 3:00 pm

what are you doing batting Church 4th? I know he’s had a good start, but come on, he’s not a cleanup hitter, get real… If anything, bat him between Wright and Beltran…

Gina June 11, 2008 at 4:08 pm

Beltran definitely isn’t a clean-up hitter either.

zen June 11, 2008 at 1:05 pm

benny agbayani?

adropofvenom June 11, 2008 at 1:08 pm

Yay, another established bum.

At least people will feel stupid now for clamoring for him.

SteveHenderson9-14-80 June 11, 2008 at 1:42 pm

I know, right!

The Mets should get Matt Holiday, he’s pretty good. We could trade Chris Aguila, Jonathan Niese, Mike Carp, and Jay Payton for him.

92-70, here we come.

zer09 June 11, 2008 at 3:01 pm

Holiday finishes in the top 10 in all offensive categories every year. You think the Rockies will trade him for that crop of garbage you wrote down? And where the heck did you find Jay Payton??

Sasseroni June 11, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Holliday also only slugs a bit over .400 out of Coors Lite, too. Park illusion……

shadesofshea June 11, 2008 at 4:51 pm

I think your sarcasm meter is broken. Might want to bring it in for a check-up.

Horseman June 11, 2008 at 1:10 pm

This is great news. This is a can’t lose situation. If he does great, he a keeper, if not, then back to AAA.

backinbusiness June 11, 2008 at 1:20 pm

How does it work with these guys on MiLB contracts? I assume they can’t be sent back down to AAA without clearing waivers, right?

garykeithron June 11, 2008 at 1:20 pm

finally. i’m shocked they didn’t go for another guy with a negative batting average

DK June 11, 2008 at 1:22 pm

God I hate this team, but i cant stop watching. I need to cut off con-ed.

rogasm June 11, 2008 at 1:43 pm

It’ s like abad wreck. You know you shouldn’t look because of what you might see, but you can’t look away either. That’s what makes us Mets fans.

Mr. Mets Butler June 11, 2008 at 1:43 pm

Big mistake sending Abraham Nunez down. He was clutch!!

Sasseroni June 11, 2008 at 3:08 pm

Time for Willie to throw him into the lineup and let him get over exposed like Tatis, Endy, Marlon, Easley, etc.

But I hope for the best….

Koko June 11, 2008 at 3:39 pm

Our next Benny Agbayani!!
