by Matthew Cerrone

The Mets announced after the game that infielder Abraham Nunez has been designated for assignment.

Nunez was 0 for 2 during his six days with the team.

The team will announce a follow-up roster move prior to tomorrow’s game.

hmmm, very, very interesting…could they finally be promoting a player like Chris Aguila, or Val Pascuccifrom what i can gather, though, it’ll likely be an infielder, and so i’m thinking Jose Valentin…we’ll soon find out

I thought they brought him up to give Wright a rest. Oh well, David can play every inning this year I guess.

iluvbuckner June 11, 2008 at 7:08 am

I’m waiting with baited breath.

Or is it bated…or bayted…ah who cares?

Hellbelly June 11, 2008 at 7:11 am

……i’m hating with deflated death.

Matthew Cerrone June 11, 2008 at 7:12 am

Hahahahah.

It’s gonna be one of those days, isn’t it.

Tidewater June 11, 2008 at 7:18 am

I think it’s one of those summers, Matt.

Tidewater June 11, 2008 at 7:14 am

Oh no! I was really looking forward to seeing this kid play!

The Mets announce they have recalled Ken Oberkefell from New Orleans…

Only to play a reserve role in the infield. Fifty five year old Oberkfell will spell David Wright who at 25 has been deemed incapable of playing every day in major league baseball.

Bring back the Stache! His presence is missed…although Im curious how Val would do.

On a side note, did anyone hear about Dontrelle getiing demoted to single A?

Hellbelly June 11, 2008 at 7:33 am

……i’d trade for Dontrelle right now (I’m sure Detroit would be happy to ge out from under his new 3 year contract)

……and then I’d stick him in left field and bat him third in the Mets lineup.

2NYCE June 11, 2008 at 7:35 am

haha ;)

AMEN Brother.

stickguy June 11, 2008 at 8:05 am

Willis is a great athlete as a pitcher. Nice and tall too. I bet he could handle 1B without a problem. And I was at game 162 last year, so I know he can hit!

side note, a couple of years ago I got to sit in the padded seats just behind the on deck circle (1 section closer to the plate than the owner of the Marlins!), so the players were maybe 10 feet from us when they were on deck. WIllis was huge. I think his legs were about 4 feet long.

stickguy June 11, 2008 at 8:18 am

Valentin would be the perfect Omar move. Almost 40 and coming of a year of injuries. PLus he was pretty lousy last year before he went down.

Bring him back as teh manager? Fine by me. But don’t people remember how bad he was? All the threads about needing him off the team?

Gina June 11, 2008 at 9:50 am

He wouldn’t be costing us anything and supposedly they miss his leadership in the locker room. It’s not like we’re full of options.

jules June 11, 2008 at 8:20 am

whatever they end up doing it’ll likely be the wrong decision. ho hum.

Wow. Nunez’s Mets career went similarly to the rest of it…

Good Morning…
Good Afternoon…
Good Night…

NYMBosco June 11, 2008 at 9:47 am

Nunez was another one of omar’s dumb moves…what a waste of a transaction….this just proves that omar is clueless and is floundering with no idea how to fix this team’s player dilemma…

GravediggerHebner June 11, 2008 at 9:47 am

also coming to mind:

Goodbye, Farewell, Amen.

Nate W. June 11, 2008 at 9:06 am

Well they tried one game without three catchers and that didnt go very well so they will probably recall a 3rd catcher.

Looking at the box score from last night there must not have been a catcher in the game in the 9th inning. No other way Dauner Sanchez gives up all those runs. Willie ran out of catchers last night, didnt he?

garykeithron June 11, 2008 at 9:13 am

Bring up Gary Carter to catch :)

teufelshuffle86 June 11, 2008 at 9:08 am

What? Now I’ve had it. FIRE OMAR!!!

Nate W. June 11, 2008 at 9:10 am

In three games with New Orleans Jose Valentin is 0 of 13 with 4 K’s, 1 walk, and 1 rbi. Thats an .071 OPS ;)

I agree that someone should give Dontrelle Willis the Ruth/Ankiel treatment. But the Mets shouldnt trade anything to be the ones to do the experiment.

krumbledkookie June 11, 2008 at 9:31 am

Haha, Did you just put Babe Ruth and Rick Ankiel in the same category?

zer09 June 11, 2008 at 9:51 am

HAHA seriously. The guy can hit, but he’s no where near the babe…

Nate W. June 11, 2008 at 5:58 pm

I know, Ankiel was nowhere near the pitcher Ruth was…

commentswontnestbelowthislevel June 11, 2008 at 9:37 am

who?

Cheer June 11, 2008 at 9:56 am

That’s just a cover-up. The only reason he was here, he feel asleep in the stands and they thought he was a player………….

Horseman June 11, 2008 at 10:02 am

I know the mets did not make a move yet, but, if they call up Valentine I am going to be really pissed. Aguila has been awesome in AAA and if he does not get an opportunity, then what all the other met minor leaguers said is true. They never get a chance.

novanoto June 11, 2008 at 10:39 am

maybe i missed something, where was that reported? that all mets minor leaguers said they never got a chance? just curious

Horseman June 11, 2008 at 10:42 am

I believe Jacobs, Bell, Lindstrom, made comments about not getting chances. I don’t live in NY, I only read this website and the links from it. So, I think I read it from here or one of the links.

EliPorter June 11, 2008 at 10:16 am

fulfill ted berg’s wish: BRING IN VAL PASCUCCI.

by the way, have you ever noticed how after a rough loss, everyone uses caps lock in their comments?

miker94 June 11, 2008 at 11:37 am

it’s about freaking time!

Ferraro41 June 11, 2008 at 11:45 am

Just what this team needs. Another injury-prone, over the hill has been to clog up the bench.

petercast41 June 11, 2008 at 12:34 pm

I hope this youngster Nunez doesn’t go to another team and turn into a superstar.
