    Everyone fasten your chin straps.

  2. HoJoWright says:

all right, Mike “the stopper” Pelfrey going.

    LETS GO METS!

  3. Nightlife says:

Looks like I’ll be playing MLB 08 The Show, again, tonight!

  4. stickguy says:

Oooohhh. Way to shake things up here!

Marlon will probably get hurt too.

And goodbye Moises, we hardly knew ye!

  5. It’s feeling like a nice little loss tonight

  6. AlreadyMissShea says:

I’m watching this one on TV for as long as I can stand it tonight, then I scrapped my plans to go tomorrow and I’ll be going to the beach instead. I’ll continue to support the team, but I’m taking back at least some of my life too. At least for a couple of days anyway.

  7. There's Always '09 says:

    damn….and this is willie’s fault?

Pelfrey better throw a cg shutout for us to have a chance of scoring on a passed ball in extra innings.

  8. Nate W. says:

Marlon and Endy in the OF, yikes.

where is Aguila, are the Mets playing 3 men short again?

    Alou, Nunez’s non-replacement, and Vargas… yup

    • metaje says:

agulas a rook ….got ride the bench and pay his dues….like willie did on the way to getting this mets gig….managerial record in minors an impressive 0-0…..and we make fun of presidents who didnt serve in the army

      • Dafatone80 says:

Aguila’s not really a rookie. He’s 29 or 30, and was up and down a few years with the Marlins.

  9. metaje says:

i would love to look at the lineup for just one night and see that stubborn sob ….do something different….like he gives a $4it….maybe flip flop castillo and reyes and wright and beltran

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I agree. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. The worst that can happen is it won’t work and they lose. They’re losing anyway. Try something. Show that you still care. Shake it up. Pretend to shake it up. Anything…

      • metaje says:

u said it right….he just doesnt care

      • chew13 says:

He’s so stubborn. 5-9 of that lineup is putrid. Even b4 seein this lineup I was pessimistic about tonight because of the pitching matchup. Think if we get swept two series in a row he gets fired?

      • dougalanlee says:

I don’t think it’s that Willie doesn’t care. I think it’s more to do with stubbornness, lack of creativity or possibly even a shortage of intelligence. Not sure which of those it is..heck, maybe it’s all of the above.

    • Phillies fan says:

How about we trade you Brett Myers for John Maine? Put Myers in as Mets’ closer where he wants to be and did great last year for us. Then you can move Wags out of town to a team that needs a closer, get a quality starter and/or prospects in return. Milwaukee maybe?

      • chew13 says:

This is what it’s come to… Great. I will say I thought about for maybe a half second. I’m not ready to concede yet. John Maine goes nowhere. How about we fire the underachieving manager before we start shipping guys out.

      • Gina says:

        That seems kind of pointless.

  10. There's Always '09 says:

I think the time has come to give FMart a month in the bigs. If he falls on his face, send him to aaa. If he succeeds, the future is now.

Anything to inject a little life. I realize he is struggling in the minors and had a hammy (go figure), but it must be an option….soon. Hopefully.

  11. sincekindergarten says:

I’ve got a real funny feeling about this. My normal feeling would be that Big Pelf would give up 5 or so runs and get the loss. I think that Pelf may give up 2 over, say, seven innings. Under normal circumstances, too, I’d say that we score one against Webb. Tonight, both Big Pelf and Webb get NDs. Don’t ask me to go further–I need more Honey Moon (a Blue Moon product) to do it.

    • Lightweis says:

Excellent choice on the beer my friend

      • BatteriesForRocker says:

Really? I personally didn’t care for that one too much. I love their Pumpkin one though.

        • PedroMANIA says:

wow pumpkin beer is piss awful

on the other hand, big pelf is pitching great

    • Then Heilman will come in and gives up the go ahead run(s) in the 8th and the Mets lose by 1, because Wright gets on in the 9th, Beltran strikes out looking and Delgado grounds into a doubleplay.

    • chew13 says:

Where can one find a honey moon? My local grocer doesnt have it.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

        Are you in NYC?

      • chew13 says:

        Yeah… Harlem… Upper West Side.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Hmmmmm… I don’t know about up there. I get most of my beer from a beer store down in the bowery. That one isn’t one of my favorites. The honey is more of an aftertaste. But you might like it. I know a lot of people who do. And it HAS to be available somewhere in your neighborhood. I know I’ve seen it here and there.

  12. Boooooo says:

    HEY WILLIE

TAKE BOOTRAN OUT OF THE 4 HOLE YOU MORON!!!!!

  13. Mex_17 says:

I heard that Willie is drawing up more flowcharts and inspirational pieces of paper to hand out to the team.

This team is getting fired up! Once Willie gets that flowchart figured out, it’s pay back time!

  14. The Glider says:

With this line-up I’m sure Branden Webb is shaking in his cletes. The weird thing about baseball is that in light of all these events surrounding the Mets, the team will put up 10 runs on Webb in 3 innings on their way to a romp and completely tease us into thinking that our bats are coming alive.

We have to move on from Moises. Even if he comes back in a day or two, and plays for the next 30 games straight, any at-bat, any sprint on the base paths, any jog for a fly ball could be a season ending injury.

Omar, get Nady or be fired.

    • chew13 says:

I’m with you except for the get nady or be fired part. Moises is done in my book. Let’s get a everyday corner outfielder and whatever alou can give would just be gravy. This guy needs to be a DH or hang it up. How abaout we trade alou. I’m sure a team like Boston or the Rays could use him @ DH. I say we go after Jose Guillen.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Nobody is going to be fooled into believing anything based on one game at this point. They’ve dug themselves into too deep of a hole for that now. They need to go 4-1 just to be at .500 at the end of this homestand.

      • chew13 says:

Hey AlreadyMissShea… where can I find that brew?

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Sorry, I got stuck doing something away from my computer. I don’t know of an exact place in your neighborhood. I get most of my beer down in the bowery from a really good beer store. But I know it has to be somewhere closeby for you. I do see it a lot in my travels.

  15. chew13 says:

I was listening to M&MD earlier… I know that I should know better but Mike was killing me with this trade reyes junk. My theory is Mike’s jealous of the Mets having Jose, always has been. He secretly covets him. He would like nothing better than to see him on another team.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I just cannot take those two anymore. To me, they’re no bigger an expert on baseball than anyone else out there. Problem is, they certainly think they are…..

      • chew13 says:

I agree but they do seem to be influential as caller after caller called in with their own Reyes trade.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I do love to listen to some of the trade proposals people call in with on the FAN. Every now and then you’ll get a really good one like Easley and Heilman for Pujols, because in their estimation we don’t need Easley and Heilman is no good anymore but Pujols can replace Delgado who can then be cut. Sounds good. Why hasn’t that deal been made yet?

Yesterday some lady called and said it was time to get rid of “Bill Hojo, Mike Hojo, whatever his name is.”

        • This morning someone called Boomer & Carton and said Mets should trade Santana..

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I think like with everything else with him, anything good the Mets do is not good enough. Anything bad is horrible. Anything good the Yankees do is great. Anything bad they do is just a bump in the road. So Reyes is expendable to him because he’s on the Mets. Shelley Duncan on the other hand is the next Babe Ruth.

  16. Church4prez says:

WE NEED CHANGE!!! Every 1 here post a trade during the night.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I’d settle for just seeing the attitude with this starting 9 tonight like they’re gonna win – or at least give it all they’ve got.

    • chew13 says:

I have two. Moises Alou to a team that can use a DH but doesn’t need one. Somebody who could use him but doesnt have to rely on him. ie. The Red Sox or the Rays. Also we trade Heilman for Jose Guillen. If Heilmans trade value is too low for that add a reliever or bench player.

  17. MetsFan4Decades says:

Been watching baseball for decades. I just can’t believe the amount of injuries these past few years. Just looking at Alou, Glavin, Pulojs(?), 1/2 the Padres pitching staff, the two young Yankees pitchers touted as their next great white hope etc., etc. You hardly ever saw injuries, especially among younger players, years ago. Something has changed and obviously not all for the better…

At least the Mets aren’t the only ones who have injuries starting to severely affect the team.

  18. Church4prez says:

cut alou delgado castillo and el duque

  19. metsfan119 says:

Before the Mets go ahead and do any rash personnel moves, they’ve got to try a new manager and see if it sparks anything.

  20. I say send them a bunch of strippers….it seems to work for the Marlins :)

  21. Church4prez says:

4get the manager. It is useless and overrated. Keep Willie and dump players. I am sick of this team. There is no one i would not trade on this team at aLL.

  22. Church4prez says:

How bout reyes for Crawford and Jackson or Shields??

    • chew13 says:

Nope. In my book Jose Reyes would be one of the last guys I’d consider moving. Too much talent @ 24. Let’s change his manager first.

    • mavicario says:

I’d do that in a second.

    • Metdamage says:

Reyes is getting a ton of heat but look at his stats!!!
You do not trade a young player that is on pace for 200+ hits 18hrs the most RBI in his career and a .280 average IN A YEAR HE”S SUPPOSED TO BE SLUMPING!!!!

  23. Church4prez says:

The biggest problem with this team is they brought back the same guys from the collapse and that is a no no in sports. its like doug brien with the jets.

    • chew13 says:

I think there were some questions going into this season.

      Delgado
      Pedro
      Schneider
      Church
      Pelfrey
      Alou

I think at this point in the season the questions have been answered for the most part. Time for Omar to make the neccessary adjustments. That being said Willie still needs to go… regardless. Whether it be during or after the season.

  24. mavicario says:

Atleast they were all patient in the first and took some pitches…oh wait…Webb only threw 8….

  25. the Straw says:

I dont think i can bare watching the Mets get dominated tonight by Webb. I think im just going to stay on this blog and complain and this team all night.

  26. Knuckles99 says:

Webb looks vulnerable tonight. Our bats will prove too powerful and we will make this game a blow out.

  27. Knuckles99 says:

    In an alternate universe.

  28. the Straw says:

I feel bad for pelfrey. you know hes going to give up like 2 runs in 6 or 7 innings and get the “L”.

  29. ccmetfan says:

why does anyone continue talking about how the Collapse is affecting the 2008 mets.
In 2004 the yankees collapsed even worse in the playoffs by losing 4 straight after winning the first 3.
The yankees came back the next year and made the playoffs. Met players have to toughen up.

    • chew13 says:

I hate you for making say something good about the Yankees. But that 2005 team had guys that had won together before and more importantly a manager who has one before. We have neither. (Only Pedro and Alou have sipped the WS champagne and they haven’t been healthy enough to lead). For the Willie apologist… playing and bench coach don’t count. I’m talking about a manager that has won. The only rookie manager I would accept would be Wally Backman who has paid his coaching dues in the minors. Bill R. sucks!

    • The Glider says:

Because certain fans can’t let go of it and want Willie to pay for that experience.

People need to let go of that. It’s clouding their judgment of what ails this team. It’s not about “Willie,” it’s about Omar and the configuration of the team.

  30. The Glider says:

I’m watching Pelfrey pitch and, I’m sorry, even though he’s off to a decent start tonight, I just don’t see him as a starter. I think he’d be much more effective (given his lack of second and third pitches) to be a reliever. Who knows, if he were to come in for an inning, or two at the most, and just reared back and brought the heat, he might be our closer of the future.

    • the Straw says:

even if thats the case…this team desperately needs him as a starter. Even with him, they only have 3 starting pitchers for next season.

      • chew13 says:

If Vargas continues to do well I would resign him and have him fill out the back of the rotation.

        • the Straw says:

Ewww your going to rely on Vargas next season? he does have a career 4.92 ERA. Hes nice as a temporary replacement or fill-in but to say you are ready for him to hold down a spot next season…

        • Gina says:

It’s not like we have tons of options. Even with Vargas we still need a 5th starter, and we have no depth.

      • The Glider says:

        Vargas?

      • Dafatone80 says:

Luckily, there are a ton of free agents.

Sabathia, Sheets, Burnett, Lackey, Penny, Wolf, Dempster, Lowe, Garland, just to name a few.

        • the Straw says:

Fat and will cost Santana/Zito money, Can not stay healthy for a full season and will command a 3-4 year deal, ditto, Lackey will not be a free agent, Penny is awful this year, Really randy wolf?, Dempster has come out of no where but would you trust him off one year, Lowe is past his prime, garland is ok to fill out the back end.

So your either way overpaying or getting a guy who will be injured as much as pedro.

        • Dafatone80 says:

Randy Wolf could be a competent 4th/5th starter. I’m not necessarily in love with all the options, but I think there are some decent ones.

Lowe is past his prime, but I think he has a few good years left. If we can get him for 3 years or less, I’d take him.

I thought Lackey was a free agent, I’ll have to doublecheck that. Sabathia is fat, but he can throw, not sure I’d want to take the risk but he’s no Zito.

And could you imagine the MVP-caliber years Penny could put up if he didn’t have to get crushed by the Mets three times a year?

        • the Straw says:

Well Wolf is always hurt too.

I dont think any of these arms will put us in better shape than the rotation we have today, with Pedro healthy.

        • Dafatone80 says:

Er… if we managed to get Sabathia and Dempster or Lowe, we’d be in better shape than we are with Pedro and Ollie.

        • the Straw says:

          oh and Lackey:

2009: $9 million club option w/$500,000 buyout, 2010: Free Agent

you better believe they Angels will pick up that option.

        • the Straw says:

The Mets arent spending another $100+ million on a starting pitcher.

          CC isnt happening.

        • Dafatone80 says:

Agreed, I’m just saying that the options are better than what we have now.

If it were up to me, I’d get two of Wolf, Dempster, Lowe, and Garland.

Santana, Maine, two of those guys, Pelfrey wouldn’t be terrible.

    • Gina says:

He has a second pitch. He just doesn’t have an off-speed pitch. He has two great fastballs. The problem is once a team has seen him more than once those two pitches stop fooling anyone.

I think we should send him back to the minors and have him focus on off-speed pitches. Maybe he’ll still suck but it couldn’t hurt.

  31. CitizenSnips says:

Anyone else not getting any sound on mlb.tv?

  32. the Straw says:

Seriously, is anyone else tired of Beltran whiffing on curve balls. i mean really, it happens all the time.

Is he really that good? I mean he stinks in the clutch, he puts up good numbers, but they feel like hollow numbers i.e. bobby abreu.

And i know he plays a good defense, but he’s never going to be Andruw Jones or Torii Hunter calibur, because he plays too deep and lets too many balls fall in front of him.

  33. The Glider says:

    Let’s here it Omar.

  34. AlreadyMissShea says:

    OMAR!
I think we’re going to find out right now that this team has in fact NOT been losing games.

  35. Metdamage says:

The Mets will begin to play better by the All-star break. Minaya, feeling the need to make a move, will trade Pelfrey and Aaron Heilman for Xavier Nady or Brandon Inge. The team will be more balanced and will win the wild card saving the season but losing in the playoffs.

Pelfrey eventually becomes a stud starting MLB pitcher at the tender age of 25.

    • Dafatone80 says:

We’re not trading for Brandon Inge.

    • The Glider says:

Not if doesn’t develop second and third pitches.

      • Metdamage says:

Pelfrey has 2nd and 3rd pitches. He just lacks control of those pitches and that could change in a hurry. The Mets won’t allow Pelfrey to throw a curveball that he has thrown his entire life. A team will let him throw his curve and he will eventually get control of his slider making him what the scouts say he is, a top two starter.

    • Gina says:

More like F-mart and Neise for a certain player on the reds who just hit his 600th homerun.

  36. End the season says:

0-2 and he walks him, classic Pelfrey

  37. The Glider says:

    Lead off walk. Great.

  38. The Glider says:

    The Omar shuffle.

  39. scottmetsfan says:

did omar just say we are in a “glut”???? jeez louise, omar, it’s not a glut we’re in, you mean we are in a RUT.

  40. End the season says:

Please ask him why he gave Castillo a four-year deal, I would love to hear that explanation

    • Dafatone80 says:

Castillo hasn’t really been the problem.

I’ll wait until he actually falls apart to call him the problem.

For now, he just looks like his legs will fall off every time he runs.

  41. adam11216 says:

if webb no hits them tonight, can that please, for the love of god, be “rock bottom”?

  42. the Straw says:

what else is he saying. i cant get sound on mlb.tv.

    • The Glider says:

      In essence, nothing.

    • scottmetsfan says:

nothing. be grateful you don’t have to listen to this. just like a politician, he blabs and blabs and blabs and never answers a question. come to think of it, nobody really ASKS him a question worth answering. PUFF PUFF

  43. AlreadyMissShea says:

Omar is one of those guys who can sit there and talk and you think you’re getting something out of him and when the segment is over you say to yourself, “What the hell did he just say? Oh yeah, nothing.”

    • dr jones says:

and that was fine for the first two seasons when we still believed in this guy but now we actually want to hear what he has to say and he give us NOTHING.. What a terrible interview.

  44. Mr. Mets Butler says:

So Omar thinks the team is fine right now. What an ARSE!!

  45. The Glider says:

I give Pelfrey another inning of just throwing fastballs before they light him up.

    • KFS says:

Maybe I’m totally off but his breaking ball has been effective tonight.

And not sure what most people is seeing in Pelfrey but this kid has really impressed me as of late. Considering he’s given up 2 or less runs in more than half of his starts this year and only 3 runs dating back to his May 31st start, I don’t think he’s that bad. Compare him to Vargas, I can’t believe how many people think Vargas should start. You guys been drinking the Omar/Willie Kool-Aid?

      • The Glider says:

Those games, however, were not against very good hitting teams.

        • KFS says:

          you expecting a 24 year-old ace?

        • The Glider says:

Hey, I’d love nothing more than for Pelfrey to prove me wrong. Those games at least gave me some hope, but, realistically, he needs to develop a second and third pitch if he’s ever going to dominate. He’s quite away, IMHO, from that point.

I’d rather see him in the bullpen.

        • Gina says:

For the 9th overall pick and biggest signing bonus in mets rookie history yes. It’s not like it’s unheard of, especially in mlb today.

        • Gina says:

He has two fastball pitches. he just needs an off-speed pitch, or two, to balance it out. Which he had but we made him give that up and try to learn two entirely new pitches.

  46. dr jones says:

    what a phony

  47. AlreadyMissShea says:

I love how that ended too. Gary asked him how much longer they can wait for the team to turn things around before they have to make some kind of a move, and he used about sixty words that ended with “there’s no answer to that question.”

    • adam11216 says:

the key part of his answer was that one of the factors was “how the rest of the teams in your division are playing.” so, if they’re playing like they’re going to win 100 games, what’s your answer, Omar?

  48. adam11216 says:

19 pitches through 2 innings. webb should be good for 10 or 11 innings tonight.

  49. End the season says:

We are gonna get no hit tonight

  50. the Straw says:

Did anyone listen to Wilie on the FAN tonight? Everything he said went in one ear and out the other with me. I have a feeling his players feel the same way.

  51. Pacman_Jones says:

Glad to see the bats came out in FULL FORCE tonight!

  52. Pacman_Jones says:

Last night before the 8th inning started I predicted Joe smith would give up a home run. The very next inning I predicted we would enter the 9th down 9-5. Where will the predictions take me tonight?

  53. Mr. Mets Butler says:

Anyone notice Pelfrey always looks like he’s in labor after he gives up a hit? Or he needs to run to the bathroom.

  54. Pacman_Jones says:

This is the inning Pelfrey implodes, or at least gives up a 2R HR.

  55. Pacman_Jones says:

    I was wrong… yay!

“A bruised shoulder won’t keep Johan Santana from pitching”

This is what SNY gives us as we are accustomed to a team of senior citizens, we are supposed to feel proud of Johan for pitching with a “bruised” shoulder? Give me a break!

    • End the season says:

Good job by Pelfrey, maybe we can turn this leadoff hit by Reyes into something

  56. the Straw says:

Come on A-holes. Lets give pelf a chance. If he can start to put things together that will be huge for the future of this franchise.

Do i think he should be in AAA-yes. But hes here and i sure as hell want him to do well and learn how to pitch.

  57. khmustache says:

now don’t get thrown out at second reyes

  58. Boooooo says:

minaya was spewing that same crap randope always spews, so i guess the a-hole doesnt fall far form the tree eh?

Dont they realize they sound like morons..

    The team is playing hard.
the manager is doing a good job.
    Everyone is really trying.

So what does that tell us, we just plain suck? Get over it?

How about.. The team is awful right now and we ned to do something to turn this around..

More and more it seems like omar want to make the mets the AARP for dominican and spanish speaking players and personnel…

tony bernazard couldnt even speak english when he was asked about ike davis..

Can anyone on this team speak fluent english?

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Wants to make the mets? He wanted to in 2005, by 2008 the mission has been accomplished!

  59. neoncleon says:

This is where we score a run!!!

  60. neoncleon says:

    That was awesome…lets go mets!

  61. Pacman_Jones says:

If the mets blow the game tonight, I hope it’s done before Celebrity Circus premiers!

  62. Pacman_Jones says:

Webb needs to chill with that balk….

  63. the Straw says:

    go hit and run here.

  64. MainStMets says:

    score a run? thats insane

  65. Pacman_Jones says:

Very productive David Wright! You have been so clutch lately! And thanks SNY for actually showing the pitch/hit there…

  66. End the season says:

    There we go

  67. MainStMets says:

    bel-TRON is alive

    make it stick big pelf

  68. Pacman_Jones says:

YEA YEA YEA! Thank God Castillo was running hard (sarcasm) he would have been killed at the plate.

  69. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Yes, Carlos!

  70. neoncleon says:

    2nd an 3rd, 1 out…our cleanup hitter up….we MUST score

  71. the Straw says:

Can i ask a good question….if by some chance the mets do get a lead, who should willie turn to in the 7th and 8th inning to hold a one run lead?

  72. Sasseroni says:

I see it didn’t take Willie to get his prodigy Marlon back in the lineup. That .160 is smokin’ hot!!

What did this team do without him??

  73. dr jones says:

    They will still loose..

  74. neoncleon says:

    BELTRONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNn

  75. Pacman_Jones says:

The next half inning is among the biggest half innings of Pelfrey’s short career.

  76. neoncleon says:

I hope they play LOOSE, and don’t LOSE

  77. Runshouse says:

Come on guys, step on Webbs neck and twist.

  78. neoncleon says:

This is more run support than he has had for the last couple starts…maybe Pelf gets the win, and we turn this season around. I know, I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.

    • KFS says:

I sometimes feel like a Mets fan is like an abused spouse that stays in a bad relationship only to get abused over and over again.

      • khmustache says:

my wife says i’m like a heroin addict…i’m unresponsive during the game and i regret watching them in the morning…but everynight i’m right back in front of the tv

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

No, you’re not. I’m with you. Reading all these negative posts night after nigh, heck pitch upon pitch – if the fans are this negative, I can’t imagine how some think the players can keep positive. To us, it’s a game. To the players, it’s their livelihood. Has to be hard to pick yourself up night after losing night….

      • Mex_17 says:

FYI: The players get paid to do this. Their salaries come out of fans’ pockets.

  79. MainStMets says:

    wow

right off of webb, hope hes ok, but hope he has to come out

just hope mad max scherzer doesnt come in, kids lights out

  80. Pacman_Jones says:

Well they stepped on his back! Webb did a nice job of using his glove to protect his throwing arm, thats for sure.

  81. MetsFan4Decades says:

Man, that’s usually something we see happen to the Mets. Nice hustle, Beltron. Just kept right on running….

  82. neoncleon says:

THIS is the kind of baseball they should be playing. I havent smiled so much during a game for a LONG time/

  83. the Straw says:

    So who sets-up tonight?

  84. khmustache says:

    great slide by delgado

  85. neoncleon says:

    Pelf goes 7. Smith/Show 8th, Wags 9th

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

With the win and the save. Can we put it in the books now???

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Oh yeah, it’s a done deal for sure. No reason to even watch. How are you enjoying your first game this season?

      • Pacman_Jones says:

He must have fallen asleep in 06 and is waking up for the first time tonight, Rip Van Winkle status.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

LOL – If I stay in this delusional state, I’ll might be able to actually enjoy the game. Gotta stay positive, man – although it’s getting harder and harder….

  86. Pacman_Jones says:

Delgado got his jersey dirty two games in a row! He hasn’t done that since 06!

  87. mets2010 says:

a little off topic but does anyone know what David wrights second at bat walk up song is? Let’s go mets

  88. Pacman_Jones says:

This is the biggest half-inning of Pelfrey’s career. He has a chance to be the stopper to the biggest losing streak of the Mets’ season. Will he step up? Or choke, hide and implode?

  89. garykeithron says:

    i’m not smiling until it’s 10-0

  90. neoncleon says:

Big Pelf looks pretty good. Pitch count OK. Seems like he’s trusting his stuff, and, as so many of us have asked him to do, he’s just rearing back and challenging them. After the last week, I am shell-shocked and expecting the worst, but if he keeps this up….

    • garykeithron says:

don’t you dare finish that sentence and curse him!

    • khmustache says:

      please don’t shoot the clown

    • KFS says:

Last week? You talking about the game he gave up 2 runs?

    • mex84 says:

I am watching him on mlb.com, man he throws alot of fastballs. Being on the left coast i dont see many Met games, much less Pelfrey games. Does he not trust his other stuff?

      • Pacman_Jones says:

His problem all year has been he has used too much of his “other” stuff and didn’t trust his fastball, tonight we’re seeing him actually trust his fastball to pleasant results.

      • KFS says:

The thing to keep in mind is that it’s 2 different fastballs, the straight one and the sinker. If he is on with both pitches, he could get through most batters.

  91. dominicanboy08 says:

    pelfrey looking like an ace..wow!!!

    • garykeithron says:

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! none of this positive talk until the game is over! not that i’m a jaded mets fan or anything

    • KFS says:

And people were ready to put him out on the curb.

  92. MetsFan4Decades says:

Purple Balloon !! Voodoo curse for the D-backs.

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Reminding them of their hideous colors. You can’t escape your past D-backs.

  93. Pacman_Jones says:

Pelfrey successfully completed the biggest inning of his career! Congrats! 1-2-3! Pencil him in as our new #3, lol, sad, but true. It’s there for the taking.

  94. Mex_17 says:

Man, this Met team can only win when no one expects it.

    • Boooooo says:

are you trying th egary cohen jinx?

    • Pacman_Jones says:

I disagree. This team CONSISTENTLY beats aces and loses to pitchers they’ve never seen, or well known pitchers who have plus 5.00ERA’s.

      • Mex_17 says:

Yeah, that’s what I mean. The way the Mets suck, you’d expect them to be dominated by Webb, and for Pelfry to get shelled.

Instead, Pelfry is Cy Young and the Mets explode offensively on Webb.

The D’Backs should call up some journeyman scrub to pitch tomorrow.

  95. the Straw says:

that was a great and i mean a GREAT job by pelf. I hope he can consistently pitch like this.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Relax chief, his night is far from over. Hopefully Bill R. manages his start and the bullpen wisely.

      • the Straw says:

it is far from over, but to put up a 1 2 3 inning after the mets just scored 3 runs is a hell of a job.

He needs to continue to build his confidence and im hoping this helps. Webb is the pitcher Pelfrey said he aspires to be.

        • Pacman_Jones says:

Agreed, which is why I said he pitched well in the biggest inning of his career. However, if he gives up 3-4 runs in this inning, you can consider this ANOTHER failed start.

  96. the Straw says:

    Andrew Miller is outpitching Hamels.
    Pelfrey is outpitching Webb.

    This is crazy…

    • KFS says:

not as crazy as it may seem. Keep in mind, both Pelfrey and Miller were (and still are) highly touted by many scouts.

  97. MetsFan4Decades says:

HAHAHA – Big Pelf! Big Smile!

  98. garykeithron says:

    who’s the new pinch hitter!

  99. Pacman_Jones says:

BOO REYES! Trade him for Carl Crawford like M&MD insisted the Mets should do!

    • Mex_17 says:

Why would Tampa ever take Reyes for Crawford? Crawford is the player the Mets hope Reyes will become.

  100. AlreadyMissShea says:

I know everyone is dying to see them get a win tonight, but some of you might want to wait until the game is over. Then celebrate all you want. Just sayin’.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Nobody is celebrating here big guy. I’m making sure of it. I am the anti-celebratory police.

    • KFS says:

come on, when was the last time we has something to celebrate? Forget waiting til the game’s over, I’m celebrating the first chance I get.

      • Pacman_Jones says:

Celebrate that Webb is out! Don’t celebrate anything else!

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

“come on, when was the last time we has something to celebrate? Forget waiting til the game’s over, I’m celebrating the first chance I get.”

They were up 5-1 last night.

        • Pacman_Jones says:

Which is why we don’t celebrate early as Mets fans. Remember Willie and the team “celebrating” with all their comments about resting up for the playoffs before they clinched in 06? Took 2 weeks to clinch. Remember last year when Willie talked about the champagne tasting sweeter in…. agggh, nevermind.

        • KFS says:

And since I didn’t celebrate then, I feel like I missed out:)

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

You are correct on all counts.

        • Pacman_Jones says:

You didn’t celebrate in 06? Were you still a Yankees fan then?

        • KFS says:

I was replying to the comment about last night, you beat me to the post.

    • Mex_17 says:

This game looks like a lock for the Mets, everything is going their way, and the D’Backs are doing absolutely nothing.

  101. garykeithron says:

send him down to AAA! ;)

  102. Pacman_Jones says:

Chris Carlin needs a diet. Atkins?

  103. AlreadyMissShea says:

Nice job knocking Webb out of the game here. Wasn’t pretty, but it’s a step in the right direction.

    • KFS says:

I’m feeling this might be where the offense switches “off” with Webb out…

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

That’s why we have to wait until they play the whole game. These guys are so inconsistent, there’s no telling what they will do until the final out.

        • KFS says:

I’m just saying (sarcastically), I haven’t enjoyed a game since…mid-april (?) and why not enjoy it while it lasts.

        • Pacman_Jones says:

We get that argument, but what we are asking is what didn’t you enjoy about 5-1 last night? Isn’t that a bigger lead to enjoy than a rather modest 3-0?

  104. adam900 says:

I don’t see them winning if it was 10-0. I count anything a win with this team until its over. If it was 2 years ago, then 1-0 it was over.

  105. Dafatone80 says:

Nice to see Webb out of there.

It’s the end of my fantasy team if he’s hurt at all, but oh well. I’ll take it.

  106. Pacman_Jones says:

Man, even on routine ground balls Luis finds a way to come off as lazy.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Cohen called Pelfrey, “Big Mike” Lol, nice try Cohen.

On my Luis comment. That last out, instead of firmly planting his feet, he threw off balance to first, almost bouncing the ball in the dirt, putting nothing on that throw. LAZY! Where’s Ruben? Where’s Kepp? Oh… they’re too young to play for the AARP squad… that’s right.

  107. neoncleon says:

Hey, I’m just enjoying a game where our starter looks real good, we have scored a coupla runs, and at least the D-Backs are a helluva lot more fun to watch than the fricking Pads. Looking forward to seeing Scherzer, and enjoying how we don’t HAVE to hit him.

  108. MainStMets says:

hes growing up right in front of our eyes

mad max time, hope 3 runs is enough, this kid is filthy

    • The Glider says:

I can’t argue with the results, but Pelfrey has essentially thrown nothing but fastballs tonight. He can’t do that all season long.

  109. Pacman_Jones says:

Why is there so much hype about a long reliever? Why isn’t he their set up man?

    • MainStMets says:

he was in the rotation, then they took him out for davis, not bc he wasnt good

      hes got great stuff

    • KFS says:

he’s a starter without a spot in the rotation.

    • the Straw says:

bc Pena his sick stuff too. and so does chad qualls. their bullpen should be pretty stacked.

    • Gina says:

He’s one of their top rated prospects and like the 11th overall pick 2 years ago. They just have so many pitchers there’s no place for him.

  110. teufelshuffle86 says:

I had a strange feeling that after losing to the worst team on the NL West and their 4 worst pitchers that the Mets would somehow look good against the first place team in the west as their best pitcher. I don’t get this team at all. Pelfrey has been lights out. I can probably count on one hand the amount of times we’ll see a performance like this again this season.

  111. AzMetsFan says:

I hope you guys are watching the SNY feed. I’m stuck with the AZ anouncers and Mark Grace keeps calling Pelfrey “John Pelfrey”. At least he’s praising John Pelfrey.

    • garykeithron says:

yeah, mike’s a tough name to remember and pronounce. Almost as bad as Ambiorix

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

John Pelfrey? Hey, we have another starter on the staff – hahahaha.
Luckily, I do get SNY. But then, I had to suffer through the Omar interview.

    • Mex_17 says:

Grace speaks like he was dropped on his head a few times when he was a redneck infant.

  112. NYCESQ says:

New Beltran song! That’s the difference!

  113. playmaker3128 says:

Great thing about pelf is all he has to do is learn to control that sinker and build off of that. Earlier in the year he wasn’t throwing it for strikes. If he does, he can be dominant. He’s throwing his 4 seemer more, his offspead stuff is improving, little by little he’s getting better.

Also how about the St louis cardinals. I still believe we can catch them for the WC at the very least. However they just keep winning. Pujols is gonna miss 3 weeks so maybe theyll faulter.

Of course if were gonna catch anybody we have to start playing well ourselves. But if Pelf and Ollie can give us decent outings, Were gonna get alot of quality starts. If we can just put together any semblence of offense we can make a run.

    • The Glider says:

He hasn’t thrown any off speed pitches tonight. He doesn’t have any off speed pitches to throw.

  114. khmustache says:

does max have 2 different colored eyes? is he an alien?

  115. AlreadyMissShea says:

The Mets really do need to win this one tonight. They have to go 4-1 the rest of the homestand to hit the road at .500 again. Their road record is pretty bad, so they can’t let any of these games get away from them.

    • KFS says:

I think that ship has already sailed. Honestly, I would not be surprised if we miss the playoff. I’ve prepared myself for that weeks ago so that feeling at the end of 2006 and 2007 doesn’t happen again.

      • Pacman_Jones says:

I believe most of us prepared ourselves for that during the last month of 07’s season, no?

        • KFS says:

not enough time, still stung a bit. I actually thought they had a good chance after the Maine near-no-no. And then…nothing devestating as someone would say.

  116. Pacman_Jones says:

Delgado ACTUALLY THOUGHT about swinging at that pitch-out.

  117. garykeithron says:

since pelf was able to hit webb, maybe pelf should be the new batting coach

  118. Pacman_Jones says:

For all the Pelfrey praising going around. Here comes the implosion. This is where Willie needs to have someone up in order to keep Pelfrey’s confidence high. Will Willie do it? Nope. Pelfrey will leave down 4-3.

  119. neoncleon says:

Hey, this would be good timing for Pelf to break out and establish himself. BTW, why not Frank R. for mgr?

  120. teufelshuffle86 says:

Something about those double ear flaps really rubs me the wrong way.

  121. Pacman_Jones says:

Implosion building… WHY ISNT ANYONE THROWING IN THE PEN!??!?

  122. AlreadyMissShea says:

Frank seriously looks almost ten years younger. Maybe getting away from all of this everyday has been good for him.

  123. neoncleon says:

Oh Jeez Louise. This is crunch time

  124. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Throw strikes!!!!!!!

  125. Pacman_Jones says:

Well, when he gives up the 3R HR here, it will go down as JUST ANOTHER FAILED START FOR BIG PELF. Pen should have been warming earlier to come in now to pitch to Reynolds, this is example #9204 why Willie needs to be FIRED!!

  126. Boooooo says:

i just hope willie does NOT bring in heilman in the middle of an inning with men on..

i think even my grandmothe knows that is not a good idea.

  127. the Straw says:

Gotta let pelfrey work out of this inning. come on.

See things have changed – Peterson put his arm on Pelfreys waist NOT HIS SHOULDER

  128. khmustache says:

    whew…not over yet…one more

  129. Boooooo says:

that was a MET like at bat for reynolds.. 123 i swing at everything

  130. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K., O.K, got the K. Looking good. Can he do one more out?

  131. Pacman_Jones says:

WOW. I AM SHOCKED. One more batter Pelf, keep your head in this, leave to the ovation of your lifetime!

  132. NadyFan says:

Heilman throwing in the bullpen. Are you kidding me Willie!!!!

If I were managing Heilman would be allowed in this game. Your team has just lost 5 in a row and it’s still a tight ball game.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Heilman is only warming to support his confidence, to give him the “idea” that he “might” be used in such a close game.

    • Boooooo says:

come on nady.. helman has been clutch this year.. no doubt he can lock down ARI for an inning or two..

oh wait, i thought it was 2006.. sorry

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

I think he’s in there in case Pelf gives up the long ball here. There’s no one better at mop up duty than Heilman.

  133. NadyFan says:

    Would not be allowed

  134. MetsFan4Decades says:

HE struck him out! WOW !!

  135. Pacman_Jones says:

Pelfrey just pitched the best game of his career. Welcome to the rotation as our #3 starter.

  136. neoncleon says:

    PELFREY BREAKS OUT! AWESOME

  137. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Good start Big Pelf

  138. Mr. Mets Butler says:

Can’t blame big Pelf tonight if we blow this. Just awesome tonight!

  139. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Atta boy!!!!

  140. dominicanboy08 says:

I cant believe thats mike pelfrey..what a permormance!!!!! I guess we still have hope

    lets go mets

  141. Pacman_Jones says:

His past 3 starts, he’s had quite the little “mean streak” as Darling said earlier. Stay Mean Big Pelf!

  142. the Straw says:

oK GREAT job by pelfrey. but if they bring heilman in this game in the 8th and he proceeds to blow this thing…

  143. MainStMets says:

little mikey is growing up tonight

  144. KinersKornerman says:

Hey just got home. You guys got Pelf through 7 innings? Nice work, people.

  145. playmaker3128 says:

I don’t care if pelfrey’s at 100 pitches. Send him back out for the 8th, if thats a quick inning then send him for the 9th. He said he’s used to throwing alot of pitches anyway. This is his masterpiece.

  146. Mr. Mets Butler says:

I say send him out for the 8th. If a man gets on, then take him out.

  147. neoncleon says:

Wow, Pacman, “another failed start for Big Pelf”…glad u were so very wrong

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Idiot. Did you forget to read the “IF PELFREY GIVES UP A 3R HR HERE” before the “it will be another failed start.” ? C’mon, you’re better than that.

  148. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Pelfrey needs to pull a Russell Crowe from Gladiator and scream “Are you not entertained?”

  149. Airfeet says:

Good for pelfrey…at least we have something bright to think about even if we lose again tonight

  150. Boooooo says:

i would bring pelf back out.. go for the shutout.. why the hell not..

have smith and feliciano up in the pen, and go for it!!

Its the bottom of the order, you gotta bring him back out for the 8th, then wagner

  151. MetsFan4Decades says:

The bullpen better not waste this great outing of Pelf’s. That would just be the ultimate sin among many lately.

    Ronnie ‘night of his life’….

    • NadyFan says:

If Heilman comes in, it’s over.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh yeah. Can probably bet the ranch on that. This is NOT the night to try and get Heilman’s confidence back.

        • NadyFan says:

I wouldn’t put it past Willie. Let’s hope Pelfrey can get through the 8th and then hand the ball to Wagner.

  152. NadyFan says:

Yep, give him at least the oportunity in the 8th, he’s earned it.

  153. AlreadyMissShea says:

Good job leaving him in the game too. I don’t care if he gets a shutout, leave him in to get the win. There’s nobody on the staff who will pitch as well as he’s pitching tonight.

  154. the Straw says:

WOW looks like pelfrey will be back out for the 8th. Im not sure how i feel about this, but he is a better option than Heilman….go get em big Pelf.

  155. Boooooo says:

    THe pitch count is gay..

here is the fla line tonight, and the guy is out in the 8th..

Pitcher IP PC H ER BB K
    Miller 7.0 98 4 1 1 7

    That is SOOOOOOOOO gay

  156. playmaker3128 says:

If he has a quick 8th, i’d give him the 9th as well. He is on 5 days rest anyway. Give the pen a rest.

  157. the Straw says:

I hate how the mets have one good inning offensively and then they go to sleep…doesnt it seem like this happens ALL THE TIME???

    • Pacman_Jones says:

Did you honestly think we’d get any hits with Marlon, Schnider, Endy batting? C’mon don’t overvalue the non-talent on the bottom third of this roster.

      • the Straw says:

not just that inning with those losers…its the entire game every game. I bet they have put up more innings with 0 runs than any other team in the league.

I wish there was a way to look that up.

    • NadyFan says:

Every single game, that’s why they are 3 games under .500

It’s like the veteren players just call it a day, they figure they earned their money already.

  158. the Straw says:

I knew it…i said it yesterday.

I live in Philly and the Sillies are starting to “Smell themselves”. They are bout to hit a bad steak….and here is a chance for them to lose two in a row, and lose with their #2 and #1.

    Mets must take advantage!

  159. Pacman_Jones says:

    Let’s get it Big Pelf!

  160. Pacman_Jones says:

I hope to GOD we don’t see Billy for 1+ again.

  161. Pacman_Jones says:

    95 in the 8th! WHOOOO!

  162. neoncleon says:

Sorry Pacman….missed a bit of the game and blog, and just scrolled thru. my apologies….Still smiling …..

    • Pacman_Jones says:

lol… no problem, it’s understandable. I also apologize for calling you an idiot. We all get along when we’re winning, now if Billy blows Pelfrey’s gem in the 9th… now that’s another story! Haha.

  163. NadyFan says:

The 1986 Team would tack on 3 or 4 more runs in the bottom of the 8th and just put it away.

  164. MainStMets says:

got to send him out for the 9th!

  165. sincekindergarten says:

I think he just threw a slider!

And he’s still in the mid-90s in the 8th. I think Wags comes in for the 9th, though. Gotta nail this one down.

  166. Pacman_Jones says:

GAME OF HIS LIFE. Just be consistent now Mike. You’re our third best SP, no questions asked.

  167. khmustache says:

you send him out there for the 9th? i say yes

  168. WrightsRight says:

Just got here…..looks like Big Pelf is dealing…and has dealt all night……hopefully the pen can hold it….

  169. neoncleon says:

Could this be where the Mets take their heads out of their collective butts and we start to turn this season around????

  170. the Straw says:

F#ck it. Let him hit. Give him the 9th.

  171. AzMetsFan says:

wow, john pelfrey is looking great!

  172. garykeithron says:

it seems like they are prepped for the starter but when the reliever comes in, they can’t adjust

  173. playmaker3128 says:

Let him go out for the 9th. he gives up a hit you bring in wagner.

Wow this is the best i’ve ever seen him. Mixing in his slider, 2 seam and 4 seam fastballs. Man if he ever learns to throw that slider consistantly (its getting better) he’s gonna be dominant. He’ll be able to pitch to contact and strike guys out, like tonight.

  174. Nightlife says:

Man, what a game by Pelfrey!

  175. AlreadyMissShea says:

    OH NO!
    Giuseppe Franco!
I hope our luck isn’t about to change…

  176. Mr. Mets Butler says:

Love to see him out there in the 9th. Don’t think it will happen though.

  177. Andrew says:

Time to start the slow clap…

  178. metsfan119 says:

Gotta give Big Pelf props, I figured Moises Alou had a better chance of completing a triathlon than Pelfrey outpitching Webb. This is why I thought keeping him in the rotation once Pedro got in was a good move, his upside is much higher than Vargas. Let him get a complete game here Willie.

  179. Pacman_Jones says:

    He’s out….

  180. neoncleon says:

Absolutely let him hit (maybe he gets his 2nd) and give them the 9th….why the F not? Pitch counts, as we all agree, are gay

  181. dominicanboy08 says:

from now on I hope pelfrey learn to pitch like this more often, if he does, we will be a much better team…BTW pelfrey should be like 6-4 now with a more run support

  182. Pacman_Jones says:

Is that Dave Chapelle on the mound?

  183. Mr. Mets Butler says:

I love it. He deserves the chance at a complete game. Awesome.

  184. neoncleon says:

    YES..Pelf hits

  185. khmustache says:

    chanting for the pelf!!!

  186. Pacman_Jones says:

WOW GIVE PROPS TO SHEA BABY.

  187. the Straw says:

this is huge for him. He pitches a complete game shutout against a pitcher he considers his Idol. huge for his confidence and he needs it.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

whoa. whoa. whoa. Dude. Pelfrey is far from throwing a complete game shutout. Please…

  188. playmaker3128 says:

I read an article the other day after his last start. Pelf says pitch count doesn’t matter to him. Doesn’t matter if its 90 or 120. As you saw last inning, throwing as good as he has the entire game 110 pitches in.

This team needs something positive. Let him go out for the 9th and get a shutout. If he gives up a hit or two you bring in your closer.

  189. GeorgeThomas says:

    Go Big Pelf!

Notice he’s been pitching much better since he got rid of the mouth piece?

  190. MetsFan4Decades says:

Strikes out and still standing O. And doesn’t he just deserve it…

  191. Pacman_Jones says:

If one runner gets on, Wagner needs to get in there, regardless.

  192. neoncleon says:

Joe Rogan, there might be something you don’t know about me…I smoke rock!

  193. HITorDIE25 says:

If he blows it, I dont want to hear any of you idiots that talk crap about willie. The man desearves it and we will live and die by his arm. This could be the turning point of the season.

    • Pacman_Jones says:

I will talk crap about Bill R though. I don’t agree with this move, whatsoever.

      • the Straw says:

Ok and if pelfrey finishes this thing, you will admit you were wrong?

Bc im sure you will be quick to point out if you are right.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

It’s gutsy but I think they should have hit for him. I won’t blame Willie either way. Probably a 50/50 shot.

  194. garykeithron says:

pelf with the big grin at the crowd like he’s a little kid

  195. AlreadyMissShea says:

I hope that Omar and Co. take note. Here we are in the bottom of the 8th, and the fans are chanting for Mike Pelfrey on a night where Moises Alou is nowhere to be found. I know it’s a bit of a reach, but it’s just one example where older doesn’t mean more reliable.

  196. teufelshuffle86 says:

Not a big fan of this move but, okay.

  197. GeorgeThomas says:

Another run this inning would be nice.

  198. wa2k99 says:

I’d let him start the 9th and give him a shot at a CG until the tying run comes up.

  199. GeorgeThomas says:

    Happy birfday Jose!

  200. neoncleon says:

There is no one in the BP I would rather see to start the 9th. I think MP gets the CG. Have Wags warm if there’s any trouble…

  201. metsjam says:

To be on the record before the 9th inning, I completely agree with leaving Pelfrey in for the 9th inning. I’m just afraid he’s going to give up a squib hit, then gets pulled and then the bullpen lets the stuff hit the fan

  202. Pacman_Jones says:

Reyes’ run is huge here, we need this insurance run.

  203. wa2k99 says:

    Just like Jose planned it!

  204. Pacman_Jones says:

Damn… why can’t Reyes steal a base anymore?

    • jcervone7 says:

In his defense, that was a perfect throw

    • metsjam says:

I think it may be a couple of things. He may be not getting as good a jump after getting picked off several times. But more importantly, I just don’t think he’s as fast as he was a couple of years ago. He’s still fast, but he doesn’t blow me away like he used to.

  205. pkpiazza31 says:

its not him ,its snyder, he’s throwing it perferct everytime

  206. metsfan119 says:

Assuming the Mets win, I really hope they build SOMETHING out of this.

  207. Pacman_Jones says:

Can we end this game in time for CELEBRITY CIRCUS?!?!?

  208. metsfan119 says:

Phils are on the brink of another 9th inning comeback

    • KinersKornerman says:

Bro, can we stop with the Philly love? They are our rival.

      • metsfan119 says:

Philly love? What the hell are you talking about?

        • KinersKornerman says:

did you not just post that the Philles are about to come back in the 9th? That looks like you amire/love them. Am I off-base?

        • metsfan119 says:

It’s about the team in first making a comeback and my frustration.

  209. GeorgeThomas says:

Here comes a Wright fly out.

  210. AlreadyMissShea says:

If he gives up a hit with nobody out, he comes out. Otherwise they let him go. This is going to be a big confidence builder for a guy we are really going to need to step up now. He’s young and he’s green, but he’s one of the few guys you don’t have to worry about being in traction on any given day.

  211. KinersKornerman says:

Has anybody noticed how Castillo backs out of the box when Reyes is running? Hey Luis, how about swing the bat there to break the catcher’s rhythm?

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Or just stand in the box that he is entitled to stand in. He doesn’t have to get out of the way.

  212. Pacman_Jones says:

Wright… time to be clutch, c’mon now.

  213. GeorgeThomas says:

Wright can not hit a slider!

  214. adam11216 says:

in case no one’s noticed, the braves are a mess right now, too. thank god they took glavine so we weren’t tempted.

  215. NadyFan says:

I think we have the wronf Snyder.

  216. GeorgeThomas says:

    un-freaking-believable. wtf is slappy thinking?

  217. wa2k99 says:

Since when was Johnny Bench catching for ARZ?

  218. MetsFan4Decades says:

Man, that was just poor. Two in one inning. Thought this dude was not good at throwing runners out?

  219. TheBigStapler says:

    GO BIG PELF!

  220. khmustache says:

cmon castillo….snyder’s been on point all night…could’ve used the insurance there

  221. NadyFan says:

Hey man, I never complain about agressive play.

  222. ccmetfan says:

    Lets Go Pelf!!!!!!!

  223. garykeithron says:

how many pitches did pitchers make back when complete games were more common.?

  224. AlreadyMissShea says:

OK I would take him out here.

  225. metsfan119 says:

    That’s bs

  226. GeorgeThomas says:

    there goes the game.

  227. GeorgeThomas says:

how ’bout a tip of the cap Pelf?

  228. Pacman_Jones says:

Way to go willie. Wags should have started this inning!!!!!

  229. batsinthepelfrey says:

way to go big pelf…still got a lot of work ahead of us…time to get going

  230. Runshouse says:

I kind of hope they lose now.

  231. NadyFan says:

Hey, give him a brake, he’s not use to standing Os.

  232. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice game, Pelf.
Although with the bullpen lately, I think it was a crap shot leaving him in there, bringing in Wags. If there was ever a time for Wags to put his money where his mouth is, this is the game.

  233. AlreadyMissShea says:

It’s the right move. He got into the 9th inning. He’s gonna feel good about himself and hopefully he can build on that confidence. Leave him in any longer and if something goes wrong it’s counter-productive.

  234. anonymii says:

Haha, Maine still has a third of an inning on Pelf for longest outing of the season.

  235. Mr. Mets Butler says:

It’s the right move. You would rather Wagner come in here where a hr and we still have a lead.

  236. GeorgeThomas says:

From ‘67 to ‘77 Seaver had 180 complete games. One Hundred Eighty.

    Now back to the game…

  237. metsjam says:

This is what I mean. If you’re going to give Pelfrey a nonexistent rope and pull him the second he gives up a weak hit, you might as well have pinch hit for him in the 8th. Willie, make up your mind. If you think Pelfrey has gas let him go on. If not, you blew it in the 8th inning. Can somebody explain the logic?

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

That’s why I disagreed with the move to begin with. Another dumb move by Willie.

  238. NadyFan says:

When it comes to Willie, Logic is not a word I would use.

  239. wa2k99 says:

    What a slider

  240. metsforever says:

How many think the Mets might have a chance to win this game?

  241. GeorgeThomas says:

    Here comes the bomb.

  242. MainStMets says:

    will it ever end?

  243. NadyFan says:

    Oh Oh

  244. Pacman_Jones says:

    Here comes the heartbreak!

  245. metsforever says:

HR for this guy, or the next?

  246. MetsFan4Decades says:

Watching this next batter through cracks in my fingers – as they’re currently covering my eyes. I feel like it’s a horror movie and you just don’t know when it might be coming.

  247. Pacman_Jones says:

Mets will go into the bottom of the 9th tied 3-3.

  248. metsfan119 says:

    Refuse To Win

    That’s the Mets motto.

  249. BaysideBillyD says:

Willie made the right move taking him out there. It is not as if he is putting in Heilman or Vargas…
    he is playing it safe.

    Good move.

  250. Pacman_Jones says:

    Hr for Tracy here.

  251. metsforever says:

AZ should bring in Augie Ojeda. He is practically a sure thing

  252. GeorgeThomas says:

    NICE play by Schneider!

  253. MetsFan4Decades says:

Whew! He’s not making it easy.

  254. MainStMets says:

    whew

  255. NadyFan says:

I hope they preserve Pelf’s shutout.

  256. AlreadyMissShea says:

OK, you guys who wanted to celebrated two hours ago can probably get ready now…

  257. teufelshuffle86 says:

Wagner better not lose this game for Pelfrey.

  258. adam11216 says:

billy is lights out starting the 9th with a clean slate. otherwise, he’s a guranteed coronary.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Another reason why you hit for Pelfrey. Willie getting cute is not what this team needs.

    • drodro22 says:

yup 100% correct……THIS is why you don’t let Pelf go to the ninth…..once again Willie is an idiot.

  259. Pacman_Jones says:

Reynolds will hit his 15th HR of the season, Wagner will cry in the locker room.

  260. GeorgeThomas says:

do not throw this guy a fastball over the plate! up and in, low and away…

  261. drodro22 says:

    its never easy

  262. metsfan119 says:

it would be nice not to let Pelfrey’s runner on 3rd score

  263. Pacman_Jones says:

Wagner getting squeezed, he’s about to grrove one!

  264. NadyFan says:

    96 baby!

  265. Pacman_Jones says:

One more strike Billy, nothing to hit here, nothing to hit here, please!

  266. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on, come on, come on.

  267. NadyFan says:

    Whew……………..good cut at that pitch.

  268. backinbusiness says:

come on florida walkoff lets go.

  269. GeorgeThomas says:

    awesome direction here by Webby

  270. Pacman_Jones says:

DO IT FOR YOUR BOY BILLY!!!!

  271. backinbusiness says:

wagner 98. how is that humanly possible at his age and size. eh, i dont want to know.

  272. MetsFan4Decades says:

Show polish play. Did they think they were getting away with that 2 night’s in a row!! D’backs getting desperate.

  273. metsfan119 says:

can’t argue about not getting breaks this game

  274. metsforever says:

Bad call ump it got him

  275. MainStMets says:

ARE YOU FCUKING KIDDING ME !!!!!!

  276. metsforever says:

you had to know that was coming.

  277. NadyFan says:

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  278. Pacman_Jones says:

    CALLED IT THANKS BILLY!!!

  279. adam11216 says:

that’s it. what’s the point anymore?

  280. AlreadyMissShea says:

You have GOT TO BE ******* KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE??????????????

    • jimrebel44 says:

      Time to cut bait, huh?

This season is my worst nightmare happening over and over again.

  281. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, My, God. This just cannot be happening.

  282. metsfan119 says:

    I give up

  283. The Glider says:

    Must be Willie’s fault.

    • drodro22 says:

it is….you don’t bring a 24 year old out after over 100 pitches against the middle of the lineup…..

  284. Mr. Mets Butler says:

    Are you friggin’ kidding me!!

  285. MainStMets says:

well billy, you blew a game in a big spot, f’n shocker

  286. khmustache says:

    &^&&^%&^$%&^&^*(($%$#@!!!!@!#^%#&%*

  287. anonymii says:

    I knew 3 runs wouldn’t be enough.

  288. dr jones says:

    nnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooo

    WE’RE GONNA “LOOSE”

    i MEAN lOSE

  289. batsinthepelfrey says:

    i’m done

  290. Steve in DC says:

    Second STRAIGHT blown save!

  291. WrightsRight says:

    Are you kidding me?

    Seriously

    Are you &^%$# kidding me????

Man, I really, really, really feel bad for Mike.

  292. Pacman_Jones says:

THANKS WILLIE! THANKS FOR LETTING PELFREY START THE INNING AND ALLOWING HIM TO GIVE UP A BASE HIT! !!!!

  293. AlreadyMissShea says:

Willie should go out now and argue that he WAS hit by that pitch.

  294. metsfan119 says:

    poor Pelfrey

  295. adam900 says:

Wow do I feel for Pelfrey. I hope Wagner ****en breaks his arm. POS

  296. DMAT89 says:

So pelfrey still has what 2 wins? yet he should have 6…THAT is unbelieveable

  297. adam11216 says:

that’s seriously as bad as it gets. until tomorrow, i’m sure.

  298. Airfeet says:

llol this team just cant find a way to win a game

  299. wa2k99 says:

HA HA HA. All I can do is laugh

  300. GeorgeThomas says:

    believable, simply believable.

  301. Runshouse says:

Way to take oput the ground ball pitcher willie.

    • darkstar73 says:

i can’t believe idiots like this blaming Willie for this, Wagner is our closer, this is where you use him, every other team in the entire league does this. You can’t go around blaming Willie for everything, HOLD THE DAMN PLAYERS ACCOUNTABLE, DON’T BE A WEAK FAN LOOKING FOR ONE SCAPE GOAT, THE PLAYERS ARE SUCKING, THATS WHY WE’RE LOSING.

  302. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Good job Billy. You suck!

  303. darkstar73 says:

that had to of been a joke, right?

  304. metsfan119 says:

even if they come back, to blow Pelfrey’s win, what a fcking disgrace

  305. backinbusiness says:

    OH MY GOD!!!! KILL SELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  306. dykstraw II says:

    there are no words

  307. MainStMets says:

lets not forget about the night we got from pelfrey tonight, he came up huge in a spot where no one thought we had a shot, 4 games in a row the pen blows it, sounds just like f;n last year

whats wags value at this very moment? ship his a## out

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

You are absolutely correct. You have to take the positive of Pelfry’s pitching performance tonight. Never mind Billy just totally blew it for him. No one can take that pitching performance away from him.

  308. neoncleon says:

    This just sucks.

  309. metsforever says:

This was coming the minute they brought Wagner in. He can’t deal with guys on base.

    Sorry Pelf.

Sometimes it’s not your year and this is it.

It is time to SELL, SELL, SELL

Wagner, Feliciano, Heilman, Delgado (if you can find a sucker), Perez. Even consider offers on Beltran. It is OVER

    • Koko says:

The guy gets paid $10 million+ to be a top closer. Which includes being able to pitche when guys are on base. It’s freakin’ fault for not pitching well – no one elses.

(Mind you he has come into many games with guys on base, not letting up runs).

      • metsforever says:

not that often. Like many closers, he has problems with men on base. These guys are much better when they start innings

  310. WrightsRight says:

Mark Rob Deer Cody Ross Reynolds…..unreal. This team. This team…

  311. Koko says:

    Fire Wagner!

My Higher Being – when it rains it continues to poor.

Man, I haven’t been a Pelfry fan, but I feel incredibly sorry for him. The guy who was supposed to be one of the best closers in baseball can’t do crap.

  312. MetsFan4Decades says:

Speechless. What can be said that already hasn’t been said?
    And they’re still booing Billy…..

  313. Hey Billy — remember when you told everyone how you’d kill yourself after something like this?? Well, you just did it twice-in-a-row, so can I bring you my gat?

  314. MainStMets says:

oh by the way, the phils came back to tie it in the top of the 9th…

  315. adam11216 says:

now we’ve gotta burn our pen on a night when the starter went 8.

  316. metsfan119 says:

I’d pay 100 dollars for Pelfrey to deck Wagner in the dugout

  317. mets19 says:

I AM ABSOLUTELY SPEECHLESS AFTER WATCHING THAT!

  318. oleosmirf says:

at least we have great clutch hitters in beltran and delgado coming up next inning.

  319. End the season says:

This is rock bottom if we lose this

  320. notonyourradar says:

EVERYBODY CRAP YOUR PANTS! (i’ll leave the following noise to you)

  321. Boooooo says:

can someone tell me why pelfrey came out of the game.. anyone?

    anybody?

    buehler?

  322. ccmetfan says:

I truly feel sorry for Pelfrey. I don’t care if the Mets lose, I just feel bad for Pelfrey.
I gotta admit this is some of Willie’s fault for putting Wagner to start the ninth but who here can predict the future. It’s all hindsight

  323. Oh how I cannNOT wait for them to lose and hear Wagner’s post-game suicide rant this time!!

  324. teufelshuffle86 says:

Horrible managed. I know getting on Willie seems cliche these days but that’s not the way to manage the end of a ball game. Either pinch hit for Pelfrey in the 8th or let him pitch more than one batter in the 9th. Not saying that was the ultimate reason but just another dumb move in a laundry list of dumb moves by Wilie.

    • metsforever says:

The guy just doens’t know what he’s doing. Can’t say that though on account of his being black and everything. A random white guy would be long gone by now.

  325. GeorgeThomas says:

    Mets 9th:

    Wright flies out
    Beltran strikes out
    Delgad grounds out

    game over

  326. NadyFan says:

Like I said, the 1986 would have tacked on 3 or 4 more runs in the bottom of the 8th and this would be a side note.

  327. drodro22 says:

    FIRE WILLIE AND PETERSON…..PERIOD

  328. MainStMets says:

just like sundays game, this is on NO ONE BUT WAGNER

  329. Darryl Strawberry says:

Is there anyone on here that actually thought that wasn’t going to happen? There’s no way we win this. Ten games under five hundred by the end of next week. Yankees will go a huge winning streak to make matters worse.

  330. The Glider says:

We gotta win this game. I think we will. (This sucks.)

    • almar1965 says:

Who cares if they win it?! Seriously. Even if they hit a game winning HR, this game and team still suck and is indicative of the type of year they are having.

It would be a very hollow win as far as I am concerned.

      • khmustache says:

1000% agree. even if they win they still lose…the most vocal guy in the clubhouse, the one calling everybody else out…screw it, you know what i’m trying to say

  331. Mr. Mets Butler says:

I give up! I think I will just go join a monastery tomorrow and veg out as a monk in prayer.

  332. AlreadyMissShea says:

This is why with this team you cannot feel good about anything EVER until the game is over and they’ve won. Nothing can ever come easy. Now we start all over again. And again the offense has shut down for the night (so far)

    • almar1965 says:

I actually felt that Wagner was going to give it up. I wish I was wrong.

Ironically, no one can blame Willie for this game, which goes to show you that this mediocrity is bigger than just Willie Randolph’s managing.

      • stone11375 says:

YES YOU CAN. YOU CAN BLAME WILLIE FOR TAKING OUT SANCHEZ LAST TIME AND YOU CAN BLAME HIM FOR TAKING OUT PELF IN THE BEST GAME OF HIS SHORT CARRER. SEND A TICKET TO BOBBY V OVER IN JAPAN FOR NY.

  333. metsfan119 says:

Willie should be fired, but seriously, your star closer HAS to get those outs, I mean, this is ridiculous

  334. drodro22 says:

anyone who knows anything knows when you NEED to win a game, you don’t get cute to try to get your pitcher a complete game.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Agreed, I blame Willie on this one, plain and simple. He tried to get cute instead of getting a much needed win. In a 3-run game you pinch hit for the pitcher (who is leading off the inning) and then bring in your closer. Awful.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I know you are right. In my heart I let myself get caught up in the emotion of getting Pelfrey’s confidence up and letting him get as close as he could to the CG. And if the standings didn’t look the way they do now, I would still say that. But using my brain, I know Wagner should have been out there to start the 9th and nail it down. I am a fan, and I let myself get carried away.

  335. WrightsRight says:

it’s time for a Wright walk off.

  336. njmatt says:

Really? Fire Willie and Peterson, they just gave up a 3 run homer to tie the game?

    • khmustache says:

you’re right, they’ve been stellar for a year

    • metsjam says:

Decisions are made> The decision was made in the 8th inning to let Pelfrey stay on and thereby greatly minimize any chance of getting insurance runs. Then one batter in the ninth inning this decision was completely negated by pulling Pelfrey anyway. This makes NO sense. So yeah, this one’s on Willie

  337. Lets_Go_Mets says:

Willie should have seen it coming. Wagner blows saves in bunches.

  338. GeorgeThomas says:

Let’s not forget the 2 caught stealings in the bottom of the 8th.

  339. casey s. says:

FIRE WILLIE RIGHT NOW YOU GUTLESS PIECE OF GARBAGE OWNERSHIP GROUP!!!

    • NadyFan says:

Watch out, the Willie Apologists will be angry at you.

      • The Glider says:

Well, then please educate me as to how Willie is at fault for this game (assuming we lose it).

        • novanoto says:

didnt you know? everything is willies fault….gas prices? willie! economy? willie! leaving pitchers in? willie! taking pitchers out? willie!

        • casey s. says:

i am at a breaking point with all you willie apoligists.

willie should have let pelfrey have his moment and try to finish the game, instead of playing off his ridiculous playbook: oh, if he lets a guy on, we’ll pull him. never might it was a broken bat hit. never mind that the big pelf was dominant. never mind that billy has been struggling. the playbook is the playbook. willie has no freaking intuition, no mind. he’s a stiff. and, he makes me sick. he actually makes me want to not like this team. my team!

that’s why he should be fired. that’s why this game is his fault. (and so many other games this season.)

but, you sunshiners choose to see things through rose-colored glasses, so you won’t see it.

        • novanoto says:

thanks for telling ME what I see and dont see…i appreciate that, cause you know…you know me and all…wait, no you don’t, so thanks!!

pelfrey should have had the chance to finish, i agree, but you dont think just a little more blame should be put on wagner than willie?

        • batsinthepelfrey says:

its not rose colored glasses casey, its allocating blame where it belongs. wagner blew this one pure and simple. randolph shouldn’t get the blame here. rookie ptcher whohas been suspect all year and when he gets hit he gets hit hard. the right play is to let the kid try to finish and as soon as he gives up a hit you go tot he 12m closer who HAS to do his job. i have no problem blaming willie (and have) when justified. here it is not. i get wanting him out to make a change but from a pure managerial decision point of view here you are the one with the skewed view. you just want him gone so are grasping at straws.

        • casey s. says:

it’s been a season and half of this crap already. this is but just one of many of these poor managerial moves. willie is dope.

you think he’s not? really? really? i’m flabbergasted.

but, you know what? if and when cerrone calls for willie’s head (which he may never do because it’s not his style), you’d be right behind him. that’s why i can’t stand the sunshiners.

i had a few heated arguments a while ago about when it would be time to fire willie. most thought that it was too early a month ago, but after two months it might not be. this is pathetic.

if the mets are going to win, it’s not going to be with willie.

PELFREY SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THERE. of course i blame wagner, but not as much as the idiot making the moves.

        • casey s. says:

          bats…dude!

didn’t you sense the upsurge in emotion in the stands and with the team as pelfrey moved toward the complete game? if he had finished the game, it would have been a huge emotional lift for the team. willie’s too stupid to realize that, of course. instead, he puts in his closer, who got shelled his last time out, who promptly blows the game and in doing so completely deflates the team and the fans. even if the mets win tonight, it will be an empty win. willie doesn’t get it, never will get it, and WILL be fired soon. it’s over for him. dead man walking.

  340. seanmcsean says:

I think the foxhole just took a huge mortar blast.

  341. AlreadyMissShea says:

We should start a new contest here for each game.

It’s called “Which inning will the mets score all of their runs in tonight?”

  342. WrightsRight says:

    beltran walk off

  343. drodro22 says:

YOU DONT BRING OUT MIKE PELFREY IN THE NINTH…..YOU DONT WARM YOUR CLOSER UP, THEN SIT HIM DOWN……

  344. backinbusiness says:

the best part of this, is if the mets win here, Wagner gets the win. I hate baseball.

  345. adam11216 says:

this one actually hurts more than any of the others. i’m actually nauseated.

  346. NadyFan says:

Phillies Tied with Marlins, bottom of the 9th.

  347. End the season says:

Phillies have tied it….nevermind we arent even going to smell the playoffs

  348. batsinthepelfrey says:

poor gary, trying to stay somewhat positive and calling wagner one of the best closers ever…he must have a kool aid i.v. at this point

  349. GeorgeThomas says:

even if we don’t score here, the game’s not over.

    wait, who am I kidding?

  350. ccmetfan says:

    Mets will win tonight

  351. Two-By-Four says:

This is Wagner just living up to his well earned reputation. If the Mets were on a positive roll Wagner would have closed it out flawlessly. Unfortunately it was an important game for a reeling team. Of course if it was a playoff game Wagner would have also spit the bit.

    I feel sorry for Pelfrey.

    • seanmcsean says:

I’d pay good money to see Oliver Perez awkwardly calling out Wanger in broken English

  352. Darryl Strawberry says:

Stop with the walk-offs. This game is over, a Diamondbacks victory.

    • batsinthepelfrey says:

i just do get comments like this and ‘fans’ like you

      • batsinthepelfrey says:

        just don’t get

        • stone11375 says:

allow me to explain. we’re what you might call upset and heartbroken and we’re gonna hate on our team to vent. notice how the comments count is the highest its been since the last ridiculous game we played.

  353. drodro22 says:

Willie Randolf is the WORST MANAGER IN THE MAJORS

  354. RetireNumber17 says:

Didn’t we all see this, the second Willie showed his piece of garbage head out of the freaking dugout after Pelf gave up that single?

108 pitches of total domination, and he’s outta there.

Sure, Wags choked, ‘cuz that’s what he does.

But Randolph coulda given Pelf (throwing mid -90s in the 9th) a chance at a complete game, yet he took him out. He’s an idiot.

    This is utter B.S.

I wish I could stop watching.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Hey, on a side note. Like your name. Couldn’t agree more. He was my favorite player on that ‘86 team.

  355. NadyFan says:

Time for Delgado to redeem himslef.

  356. garykeithron says:

did you hear that pathetic cheer when the sound guy was playing the horn toot?

  357. mets19 says:

When did Wagner turn into Aaron Heilman?

  358. Ya know, even if the Schmets end-up winning this game I just don’t see it being meaningful at all. Yes, their 5-game slide would end, however, watching another big lead get blown, in addition to watching our suicide-risk Wagner blowing another huge save — the win wouldn’t do much.

I got a news flash for every hitter to face Wagner . . . he’s going to throw you a heater right down shameway.

  359. teufelshuffle86 says:

Maybe Willie will send Bltran here. Seemed to work well in the 8th.

  360. notonyourradar says:

Ok, yes, Billy is sucking, but he’s otherwise been automatic this year, and you can’t fault Willie for turning to the guy. (still want to see him go, though)

  361. adam11216 says:

wagner to the tribe. make it happen, omar.

  362. SethH says:

I agree with what MetsJam said earlier. If Pelfrey needed to be taken out after one hit, then he shouldn’t have started the inning in the first place. Willie gave him an at-bat and sent him out there for the ninth — instead of trying to pad and protect the lead — just for the sentimentalism of letting him go for a complete game.

What more evidence do we need that Willie is a horrible strategic manager?

  363. oleosmirf says:

wagner cant pitch in the middle of an inning. Even though he’s the closer, you have to know wagner was going to blow the save…

  364. playmaker3128 says:

Well uggla just hit a walk off grand slam against tom gordon.

Even if we win this game the fact that pelfrey didn’t get the win is upsetting. I hope it doesn’t ruin his confidence at all. I mean it shouldn’t, it wasn’t his fault, but you can see in his face how badly he wanted this win. And he deserved it. (the win)

  365. The Glider says:

Beltran better not get picked off.

  366. D-Day says:

shouldve let pelf pitch it out. he was still pitching with heat and he couldve gotten a doulbe play. once again, willie cannot manage a pitching staff to save his life!

  367. End the season says:

Does anyone in this lineup want to step up, does it have to be Chris Aguila?

  368. backinbusiness says:

walk off grand slam for FLA, COME ON METS.

  369. RetireNumber17 says:

Please, Wilpons, fire Willie. I beg you, PLEASE! He’s the worst manager in Mets history, and I’ve seen ‘em all. Please fire him. Please. Fire Willie. Please.

What do I have to do?

Immolate myself in the Shea parking lot?

    This HAS to end.

  370. Runshouse says:

God bless Uggla and his walk off grandslam, he is the mets best player.

  371. D-Day says:

anyone watch around the horn on espn
jay mariotti, and i quote “willie randolph will be fired in two weeks” we can only hope

  372. the Straw says:

phils lose in the botton of the 9th and now the mets…..

  373. MainStMets says:

    its silent at shea

  374. wa2k99 says:

Yeah guys, it’s completely Willie’s fault Wagner gave up a home run. Give me a break already.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

He tried to get cute leaving Pelfrey in to hit instead of a pinch hitter. Leaving him in to hit and then for one batter in the 9th was insanely idiotic IMO.

    • metsfan119 says:

It’s bigger than one pitch, it’s a droneness that’s been with this team since early May of ‘07. When does Willie deserved to be fired to you people?

  375. teufelshuffle86 says:

WIll anybody even be happy if we win this game?

  376. mookie says:

Are you f–ing me. what the hell is wrong with this team. i’ve had enough. This team is going to be reason I don’t live to be 80. I’m done for this season.

  377. End the season says:

D-Day, I’ve never met you, but you probably know more about sports than Jay Mariotti

  378. backinbusiness says:

I think Big Pelf should have run right onto the field and punched Wags in the face, right in the middle of the game.

  379. MetsFan4Decades says:

And they said pre-game last night’s game was the worst loss they’ve had this season. Well, this game isn’t over yet. Might have a new worst game.
Remember this in September. It will be the defining moment of this season. I’d like to hope otherwise but it’s so damn hard.

  380. mavicario says:

Atleast someone on this team is consistent….I’m talking about Delgado.

  381. NadyFan says:

Delgado…………………… strikes out for the 3rd time tonight.

  382. garykeithron says:

i agree this sucks $$$&&** but, honestly, everyone would be saying “why didn’t willie take pelf out once he got that hit?” if pelf had pissed his own lead away

    • mavicario says:

You’re right in that you don’t know if the other decisions would’ve worked. But this guy is paid to make the right decision, and whether we know what Pelfrey would’ve done on his own, we know that what Willie did was the wrong decision.

      • garykeithron says:

you have to go with percentages though right? Pelf was tired, wags was fresh (albeit fresh off a blown save, too)

  383. MainStMets says:

super sub keeps the game alive…

  384. MainStMets says:

    PINCH HIT CASTRO!?!?!

  385. End the season says:

  386. AlreadyMissShea says:

THE WILD SAMOAN COMES THROUGH with a single but we still have a chance here.

  387. darkstar73 says:

the people blaming Willie for this are clueless, totally clueless, and are simply looking for the easy way out in their effort to voice their frustrations without taking the long hard look at their favorite team and realizing its the players they want to root for, who are the people who are costing us games. It’s so easy to blame Willie for everything, he’s so easy to hate, he certainly doesn’t make it easy on himself, and he’s a former Yankee and all. It’s also just easy on the fan, oh, our team is good, its just the manager, get rid of him! You’re lying to yourselves. Wake up people, the players are sucking, thats why we’re losing. If you think another manager is going to change that, you’re are sooooo lost.

    • NadyFan says:

      Willie Apologist No. 1,879,635.

      • darkstar73 says:

idiot fan #6,458,789, I forgot how annoying this blog is, good riddance, i’m out.

        • batsinthepelfrey says:

i’m with you darkstar. somehow being able to look at a situation and make a legit call on whose at fault makes you a willie apologist. please, get real. when willie f’s up everyone calls him out on it. the willie bashers that make everything his fault are just dense and looking for one fall guy instead of blaming all the players b/c its easier to do and easier to swallow than the fact that the players are sh*tting the bed

    • oleosmirf says:

i blame him for letting Schneider bat though. Easy out coming up

    • seanmcsean says:

To say he is completely blameless is equally as ludicrous. There are multiple points of failure on this team. Willie just happens to be one of them.

Organizational culture is built from the top down. Look above Willie if you want to find a larger source of concern.

    • metsjam says:

Darkstar just explain this to me. If you say Wagner is your closer and should pitch the ninth inning I say fine. In that case pinch hit for pelfrey in the 8th and try to score some more runs. I vaguely remember the Mets scoring runs in the 8th in previous years. If you want to stay with Pelfrey, he should be given more leeway than a bloop texas leaguer. Personally, I would have stayed with Pelfrey while he was looking good. I don’t have a problem with pinch hitting and letting Wagner start the ninth. But the way Willie played it was the worst of choices and minimized the chances of winning. And he does this often enough to be unemployed.

      • chew13 says:

Exactly… Thank you. He did the same ish two weeks ago in a win that I attended against the dodgers and I was screaming from the stands. We won that game despite his HORRIBLE Managing.

    • metsforever says:

you are right. the players are not very good and that is Omar’s fault. But if you have been a fan for awhile, you know that you can’t get rid of 25 players. The manager is the canary in the coal mine and this mine is full of some very bad stuff. Willie goes now, Omar next.

      • WrightsRight says:

“you know that you can’t get rid of 25 players”

Well, they can just fold the team…

    • mavicario says:

That’s right. Managers don’t play, so they mean nothing.

Have a chicken manage the team cause no matter what happens it will always be the players’ fault.

      • darkstar73 says:

is that what I said? I just said the reason we’ve lost recently is on the players, that has nothing to do with the managers role as a hole.

        • batsinthepelfrey says:

and letting pelfrey start the inning vs putting in wagner is a coin flip. when i guy is going for a complete game shutout, letting him start the 9th happens all the time. point is if pelfrey gets 3 up 3 down, then no problem (can’t blame big pelf) or if wagner comes in and get the job done (i.e. not giving up a bomb with 2 strikes and 2 outs) then no problem. wagner blew it plain and simple and that is the situation he gets paid to handle. you have to at least admit that this is not so new or unique managerial move.

      • stone11375 says:

hmm, chickem-manager. not a bad idea. we might have won tonight

  388. IamJohn says:

  391. garykeithron says:

umm, why is schneider hitting here? where’s the big pinch hit threat waiting on the bench…oh wait…

  392. teufelshuffle86 says:

The kid comes through with a hit, figures. The Mets just need to be ready to send him back down in a week when he goes back to being a AAA hitter like all the other guys they’ve called up this season.

  393. Dear Mrs. Wagner,

It seems as if your husband is beginning to enjoy “blowing” saves, so please feel free to give me a call when you just can’t take his panzyness anymore.

P.S. – Hide all your kitchen knives before he gets home tonite.

Gary Cohen, you’re one of the few people paid to bite your tongue about how agonizingly bad this team is right now which goes against the grain of the logic of being as big of a fan as your. For that I commend you, but please just call the play by play at this point.

OK, let’s place bets. Which reliever loses it tonight? I guess on Feliciano.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

No, this game will go on forever now. Mets will use all their relievers and last one left standing will be Heilman. It’ll be his to win or lose. We’ll probably all still be watching 3 hours from now….

  429. MetsFan4Decades says:

Can they make an exception, change the rules – and bring Pelfry back in? Then I know we’ll probably win and he can get the win.

  430. cousinrk says:

If they are going to fire Willie and since you can’t fire the players that’ll probably be the move. Just roll the dice and get Wally Backman in here. He’d take an interim job for the rest of the year. Its worth the risk at this point and with no other options go for it. If it doesn’t work out you have the offseason to find a better option. Although I don’t know how anyone can revive this rotting corpse of a team. Eventually new blood is needed badly.

  431. Randolph’s Post-Game Comments:

“The pitch before hit the batter, therefore, my suicide-watch closer wouldn’t have given-up another job-threatening home-run for me.”

  432. HITorDIE25 says:

you guys are idiots. Why would you say fire willie when a hall of fame closer cant get three outs? How is that his fault? When is it the players responsibility? Quit being ignorant, its not willie’s fault, its the bone head pitcher that left one right over the dick to a hitter.

    • metsfan119 says:

yes, cause clearly the blown save is the reason we all want Willie gone, and not 200 games of sub .500 baseball

      • HITorDIE25 says:

How about firing Willie because this team is under 500 for more than a year now

  433. garykeithron says:

we need a bench, but alou is at the doc and taking up a spot where a PH should be….give pascucci a plane ticket.

  434. Pacman_Jones says:

    2 RUN BOMB HERE…. GUARANTEED.

  435. the Straw says:

This bullpen is looking a lot like last September.

  436. metsforever says:

Remember, you are only allowed to score in one inning of each game. this is drummed into you in spring training.

    Wait, that’s not true?

  437. Pacman_Jones says:

FELICIANO IS GROOVING MEATBALLS, THIS ONE TO LEFT FIELD.

  438. Boooooo says:

after hearing minaya tonight, there is no way we have any hope of anythign happenning this year.. unless the WILPONS WAKE UP and fire willie AND omar…

    • metsforever says:

kind of hard to find a decent GM mid year. Willie out now, or after the all star break (Yankee Stadium and all), Omar after the year is out.. Get Theo’s assistant or somebody who knows that it’s ok to have players under 35 on the team.

  439. Pacman_Jones says:

Good try Reyes, you reggaetone dancing h0m0!!!

    • The Glider says:

      Are you drunk?

      • seanmcsean says:

Nah, he just pumps gas at the molly pitcher rest stop off the Jersey Turnpike.

Jerk didn’t screw my gas cap on all the way and my check engine light came on..

  440. playmaker3128 says:

And why do we score all of our runs in one inning? It seems like after we score a couple runs everyone loses their approach and starts trying to pad their stats. Instead of drawing walks, and doing the little things to tack on more runs.

  441. drodro22 says:

name a less capable manager than willie randolf

  442. LongJohnMaine says:

It is honestly amazing how these guys find new ways to lose every. single. night.

Hey how about this for another Omar mistake – giving Wagner a no-trade clause.

  443. Pacman_Jones says:

KILL BILL R! DIE SLOW WILLIE!

  444. adam900 says:

First of all why didn’t they walk Reynolds with first base open and Snyder at the plate??? I highly doubt Snyder would do any damage. I don’t even care if they win tonight, they hit rock bottom.

    • metsomniac says:

how many times are they going to hit rock bottom? rock bottom implies that the team can’t get lower, yet they always find away.

      • metsjam says:

They’re hitting the bottom that’s made out of slimy muck and they’re just going deeper and deeper.

    • LongJohnMaine says:

Because you’re never put the winning run on base intentionally

    • oleosmirf says:

the mets hit rock bottom every game for the past year

  445. FireOmar says:

Does Omar have the authority to fire himself? Perhaps he should look into that.

  446. Pacman_Jones says:

HOW ABOUT ANOTHER SLIDER FELICIANO SO THIS CAN BE HIT OUTTA THE PARK!

  447. foul bunt strikeout says:

I hate this f’n team so much

pelfrey pitches his heart out and what does he get…no decision and now prob not even a win for the team

    unclutch

    gutless

all talk and no backing it up

you can say “oh willie left pelf in 1 too many batters but guess what…WAGNER NEEDS TO CLOSE OUT THGIS GAME!

HE WAS BROUGHT HERE FOR THESE SITUATIONS AND COMES UP SMALL WHEN IT COUNTS

YES I KNOW MY CAPS IS ON

    F-CKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

    • Boooooo says:

he shouldve left pelfrey in to get the shutout… at least give him another batter…. or else pinch hit for him…

  448. Pacman_Jones says:

BOOOOOOOOOO! BIG BATS COMING UP! ENDY! TATIS! REYES! can you say 1-2-3?

  449. Boooooo says:

hey at least we have the macarena mets coming up in he 10th..

    chavez, probably castro, and reyes..

they cant win games, but they surecan salsa

  450. Mr. Mets Butler says:

I will predict an Abraham Nunez walk off HR. I must be nuts.

  451. cousinrk says:

I don’t blame Willie for this game. I don’t have many complaints about his managing the last few weeks, but you have to be realistic, he is the one who’s going to take that fall. That’s a fact. They can’t fire the players and he’s going to go if things don’t change quickly. Its the manager who is the first to go, even when its obviously the players who are the dogs who need to go.

    • The Glider says:

. . . and bring in who to replace him?

      I’m sorry, that’s just a dumb move.

      • Aquadealer says:

        Anyone but Willie……..

      • metsforever says:

not really. this is a business and the customers are not happy. you have to throw them a bone. Jeff and Fred won’t blame themselves and Omar has to throw Willie in before somebody figures out he put together this awful collection

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

So you would have let a pitcher lead of the 8th inning (a pitcher who has one hit this year) with a 3-run lead and then pulled him after he gives up a bloop hit to the first batter?

  452. pkpiazza31 says:

    art howe

    • WrightsRight says:

they played an art howe sound bite on Boomer & Carton this morning when Cris Carlin was doing the sports update…hysterical.

  453. D-Day says:

heres how i see this going, stretch the game oh 11-12 innings, tax the bullpen as much as possible, then lose anyway

  454. teufelshuffle86 says:

Does anybody expect the mets to score at all for the rest of this game?

  455. NadyFan says:

OK, I’m up to No. 1,879,635 Willie Apologists, anyone else care to add to the total?

    • mavicario says:

      It’s not Willie’s fault

He was born a bad manager so blame his parents.

    • The Glider says:

“Apologists” huh? Why don’t you at least attempt to articulate a coherent argument for why the Mets should fire Willie.

So if were not on you little bandwagon calling for Willie’s head, we’re “apologists”?

      • NadyFan says:

This is not my first post. I’m actually just having fun. I’ve posted over and over many times before and ARTICULATED quite clearly the many reason to let Willie go. I actually like Willie.

      • Aquadealer says:

Over a year of under .500 ball isnt a coherent argument????????

        • NadyFan says:

You won’t change Glider’s mind even if you ARTICULATE 100 reasons.

        • NadyFan says:

If you use player’s poor preformance as an excuse to keep a manager then no manager would ever get fired because you could always just use the argument that it’s the palyers fault. The OLE Stupid baseball saying ” Amanager doesn’t hit, pitch, field or run.” Bottom line the only thing a manager should be judges on is wins and losses. And with a NL high payroll of close to $140M, Willie is failing misserably.

If Willie was the CEO of a corporation the stock holders would have him fired, not the 3,000 employees.

      • metsfan119 says:

I’m actually more curious to hear why Willie deserves to keep his job. Not why he doesn’t deserve to be fired.

  456. admiralwright says:

adam – you mean the same snyder that homered last night? i mean honestly, if people on this site can complain about something they will. it wasn’t willie’s fault, everyone get over it

  457. KFS says:

Have they fixed the “on” switch yet?

  458. Pacman_Jones says:

Can we just take 2 outs and start the inning with Reyes’ pop up?

  459. Cactus says:

you just lost 5 games in a row, just let wagner start the 9th, don’t get cute, let pelfrey build on his success, take the win and go home.

    willie’s time is done.

    • KFS says:

WAIT! Wagner DIDN’T start the 9th!?!?

    • the Straw says:

Please Wagner was garbage tonight. Start the 9th, come in with a runner on. I really dont think it would have mattered.
Shame on Wagner for being so garbage tonight.

    • Boooooo says:

AND WHEN YOU DONT LET WAGNER START THE INNING.. DONT TAKE PELFREY OUT AFTER ONE BATTER!!!!

One eyed willie wanted to make sure pelf had an ER tonight

    • adam11216 says:

you have a young pitcher just getting into a groove who has never thrown a ninth inning pitch and you have a closer with a LONG track record of having trouble with anything other than coming in to start the 9th with the bases empty. not really a tough call…

  460. the Straw says:

Its really just laughable. The least consistent pitcher on the team pitches 8 magnificent scoreless innings and then the best reliever on the team gives up a game tying three run homerun.

You cant even make this stuff up.

  461. Pacman_Jones says:

DIE SLOW BILL R DIE FAST WILLIE DIE RIGHT NOW

    • The Glider says:

      Moron.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

There is one thing I don’t understand from reading almost all of your posts.

You seem like you are more interested in defending Willie than in how the team is playing. Are you more interested in Willie’s success than the success of the team? You do act like he can do no wrong almost every time you post. Were you a fan of his before you were a Mets fan?

        • The Glider says:

WILLIE IS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE METS LOSING! DON’T YOU GET IT?

I’M INTERESTED IN SEEING THE METS WIN JUST AS MUCH AS ANYBODY, IF NOT MORE SO.

BUT WILLIE IS NOT THE PROBLEM. AND SWITCHING MANAGERS NOW IS NOT THE ANSWER.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Hey I asked you a couple of questions. Why don’t you just calm down? Did I even SAY he’s the cause?

        • metsfan119 says:

it’s a stressful time being Willie’s agent these days

        • NadyFan says:

LOL. that explains it. LOL Poor Willie Agent. I feel for him.

    • admiralwright says:

who are you ray finkel? this blog continues to become less enjoyable to read night by night due to the stupidity of some of the readers – your name says it all

    • rusty shackleford says:

Dude, don’t you have a Dale Jr. catalogue to spank off to?

  462. Pacman_Jones says:

I’m glad we’re keeping toothpick Endy on this team so he can bat .140 for the year.

    • chew13 says:

Endy’s value is not in his bat. He’s made enough GW andgame saving plays during his time here with limited playing time. Maybe he wouldnt look so lost if the manager had played him during the 1st two months of the season. Endy is a role player and a great one @ that. He’d be a whole lot more instramental if we were winning.

  463. metsfan119 says:

anybody else pumped for the 4 year contract Omar will sign Alou to this off-season?

  464. FireOmar says:

Alou looks comfy on the bench with his sore calf – there is a retirement community down the road from me, they do really well with the elderly, he should look into that. He is like Mr. Glass. Perhaps he could get a pad with Omar.

  465. D-Day says:

ok, this lose is on wagner as much as anyone but NO ONE should be defending willie at this point. i know players need to perform but its the managers job to get the most out of his players. no one picked the white sox, cards, or tampa but they play hard for there managers. honestly i dont think these guys believe in willie anymore and it translates onto the field. so FIRE HIM PLEASE!

    • D-Day says:

sorry, its not a lose yet and i hope they pull it out but still, we should not be in extra innings, pelf should get a free shot on wags

  466. Pacman_Jones says:

HEILMAN! WE CAN ALL GO TO BED NOW. WILLIE DIE. HEILMAN DIE. WAGNER DIE!

  467. Jefferies 9 says:

    There’s a boost of confidence … Aaron’s coming in

  468. khmustache says:

    heilman…crap

  469. Mr. Mets Butler says:

    Heilman in. Game over.

  470. notonyourradar says:

HEILMAN : PREPARE FOR TOTAL DOMINATION

  471. johnfromflushing says:

the ghosts of the historic collapse…….

  472. FireOmar says:

If Willie goes, Omar is exposed. Omar goes too.

  473. garykeithron says:

why don’t they put alou right on the DL? if he’s feeling unable to play now, he’ll need at least 2 weeks to recover anyway. why do the mets suck at putting people on the DL – do they like being one man short?

  474. FireOmar says:

Hey lets take bets – Heilman – 9 pitches and strikes out the side :)

  475. notonyourradar says:

Who would we replace Willie with? I don’t see any latino coaches in the league looking for jobs….

  476. MainStMets says:

    turn out the lights,,,

  477. oleosmirf says:

you want a reason to fire willie?

how about the fact that he lost his ability to motivate his players.

  478. Boooooo says:

wow.. a whole 9 pitches there..

way to make him work ladies..

    I FKN HATE THESE METS!!!!

MIKE AND DOG ARE RIGHT.. TRADE REYES!!!

I HATE THE LOS METS.. THE MACARENA METS… THE LIVIN LA VIDA LOCA METS>..

    I HATE THESE METS!!!!!

  479. Mex_17 says:

Can anyone seriously tell me how Willie is any better than Art Howe?

    • casey s. says:

no, dude, no. there will be no one doing that with any respectability remaining afterward.

  480. KFS says:

    EL…FIN!

  481. drodro22 says:

    Glider = willie’s daughter….

    • The Glider says:

You obviously have never played baseball as you know nothing about the game.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

You are way too defensive. And you only post when someone is critical of Willie. Seriously, how long have you been a fan of this team?

        • NadyFan says:

          Glider takes it too personally.

          Reply here

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Like I said above, this guy is more interested in the success of Willie Randolph than he is in the success of the team. When Willie is gone, he’ll be gone too.

        • NadyFan says:

Agree, He’ll be a non-issue. I actually like Willie and was really rooting for him to get this thing turned around but it’s obvious that won’t happen. It’s just plain and simple, don’t need to over complicate it. This team has been a sub .500 team for a full season now and that’s just not acceptabble no matter how you choose to ratyionalize it. Like I said, The only true yard stick you have to judge a managers performance is the wins and loss record. It’s really that simple.

    • metsforever says:

May be Willie on his Blackberry

  482. metsfanatic says:

Wow look at that great ERA!

  483. teufelshuffle86 says:

Leadoff double coming down in 3….2……1………

  484. notonyourradar says:

I’m going with walk – single – wild pitch – out – single – game over

  485. garykeithron says:

and what’s up with the one pitcher per inning thing? who knows how long the game will last

  486. Boooooo says:

i say he gives up 5 runs, then willie takes him out

  487. metsfan119 says:

why even waste Heilman’s arm, just put the ball on a tee, maybe the Mets get lucky

  488. Boooooo says:

i would rather se wagner back out there in a pedro wig

  489. Pacman_Jones says:

DIE SLOW LOS METS! DIE FAST OMAR DIE SLOW WILLIE DIE MID INNING HEILMAN DIE IN THE LOCKEROOM WAGNER DIE IN PR DELGADO!!!!!

  490. KFS says:

    THAT WAS A BALL!

  491. GordonGekko says:

Bring back Bobby V and give me guys that are poor smart and hungry…and no feelings…and if you need a friend, get a dog.

  492. metsforever says:

I would be willing to trade Reyes, but can you say for sure that you trust Omar to do it? Of the non money trades, what has he really done? Maine and Church are OK, but we haven’t seen the last of Milledge yet. Schnieder stinks, Vargas and Bostick stink. Nady for Perez was due to a taxi crash and is not looking all that good. Santana only came because the Sox and Yankees said no. Remember this guy traded Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee and Brandon Phillips for Bartolo Colon.

No way I trust him to rebuild this team

    • Mex_17 says:

Ironically, he could have signed Colon for nothing this offseason like the Red Sox did. And Colon is pitching halfway decent.

I guess there wasn’t enough downside for Omar to make that signing.

  493. FireOmar says:

Put Cookie Rojas back at third.

  494. Mex_17 says:

    Aaron Schiraldi looks good tonight.

  495. KFS says:

    here we go!

  496. Pacman_Jones says:

game over! good try heilman! here’s the 2R BOMb!!!!!

  497. cousinrk says:

Come on people if Billy started the inning and spit the bit you’d all write how could he take out Pelf while throwing a shutout. I mean gimme a break, every once in a while can we heap some of the blame on the dogs playing on the field??

  498. metsfanatic says:

Bobby V was able to win with an outfield of Jay Payton, Timo Perez and Benny Agbayani!

  499. Pacman_Jones says:

I defintely called Reynolds 15th HR of the year check the log.

  500. notonyourradar says:

Can’t we just be that team that loses, but will throw at your head?

  501. Pacman_Jones says:

    STACY DASH HAS BIG BOOBS.

  502. D-Day says:

    reyes, wright, santana, maine stay
    everyone else OPEN SEASON
get some kids to stock up the farm again, we may not get much but some hungry young kids with half the talent would be more fun to watch

    • drodro22 says:

you don’t trade pelfrey either……you don’t get rid of the guys who are under 27

      • D-Day says:

sorry, how could i forget big pelf after his performance tonight, my bad he definitely stays

  503. teufelshuffle86 says:

Now will the double go of the left center or right center field wall?

  504. the Straw says:

Well if its anything like the Colorado game…Holliday hits game tying homerun and wins it in extras off heilman.

tonight, Reynolds hits a game tying homerun and has a chance to win it in extras agaist heilman.

  505. admiralwright says:

i try to be an optimist, but let’s be realistic – it’s now or never, no way we get through them until these guys hit again

  506. notonyourradar says:

Now that I think about it, it wouldn’t take that much work to change the site to “Cubs Blog”.

  507. KFS says:

Wow, the last time we had magic, Trachsel was still on the team!

  508. oleosmirf says:

besides drafting David Wright and trading for Santana and Maine the Mets have been on the losing end of pretty much every other move

  509. Boooooo says:

castillo fake bunt, pull a hammy
wright comes out of the closet and Ks
beltrans mole explodes like cauliflower ear, mets lose

  510. foul bunt strikeout says:

Gary Cohen loves talking about that Reynolds HR…

Wagner should have to sell popcorn in the stands during these inning as punishment

    nice changeup from Heilman

The look on Willie’s face after the Reynolds HR was sad to watch…looked like a man who has no clue where to go from here. He had his “lights out” closer on the mound after the start all the fans have been waiting for from pelfrey and a 3 run lead…and he still gets snakebitten (sorry for the pun)

almost looked like wanted to cry…i know that sounds weird and isnt the case but just pointing out what i saw

Sad day during a sorry season and what soon will be a sad end to a sorry game

    F-CKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

  511. LongJohnMaine says:

    Piece of crap Reynolds

  512. ifti99 says:

    wow!

Alou actually got in 2 ABS before sitting out a few more

  513. oleosmirf says:

and now all we have to look for forward to is the next bust Fernando Martinez.

  514. KFS says:

anybody wanna buy my field box tickets for this friday night? I think I’m going to puke if I step inside shea anytime soon. It’s beach towel night!

  515. Knuckles99 says:

    Beltran changed his song

  516. metsforever says:

what must it be like for these players? do they just show up now, knowing damn well that somehow, something bad is going to happen, now matter what they do? if any of them care, and some probably do, what must that be like every day?

  517. ifti99 says:

    innings over

  518. teufelshuffle86 says:

Wow, Wright with a clutch hit. Been a while.

  519. Knuckles99 says:

same result. Potential winning run is still on first base.

  520. MetsFan4Decades says:

You know, love this blog and all, but there has to be a better way to read the latest posts other than constantly hitting refresh. The more posts there are, the longer the page takes to load.

  521. metsforever says:

    way to be clutch Carlos

  522. D-Day says:

even if the mets win tonight its gonna be about how the blew a 2 run lead with a single swing of the bat instead of how good pelfrey pitched and how they gained a game on the phils. this just stinks

  523. Boooooo says:

is it possible for delcrapo to strike out on two pitches here?

  524. Runshouse says:

Maybe they should fake a pre game fightl.

  525. ifti99 says:

does anyone seriously think we are going to win this game?

i think were gonna get swept tomm…

im so disgusted im ready to tear up the rest of my season tickets

  526. drodro22 says:

yea beltran way to show that power

  527. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Ye…..awwwwwwwww.

  528. D-Day says:

thats it extend the game longer, work the bullpen more so we have an excuse to lose the next few games, its all going to willies master plan

  529. the Straw says:

7 straight scoreless innings for the Mets. Seven straight.

You get to webb, chse him early, and then dont score.

    what a discrace.

  530. Knuckles99 says:

how will the Mets lose this one?

  531. drodro22 says:

hey cerrone, FIND OUT WHAT THIS TEAMS AVERAGE, SLUGGING, WALKS, etc are versus bullpens….

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

And if you can, find out how many games they have played this year where they score all of their runs in one inning and then go to sleep. Seems like every night.

      • NadyFan says:

They just don’t have that “Killer” instinct to thump on teams when they are down and keep as they say ” your Foot on the throat”. It almost seems like they figure once they are ahead that they can relax and let the bullpen finish the job for them.

  532. garykeithron says:

none of us have hope and yet we’re all still watching the train wreck

  533. MetsFan4Decades says:

god – that is the lonely clip I ever saw. Pelfry walking down the tunnel to the clubhouse after the 9th ended….

  534. metsforever says:

Will fans here allow a team to rebuild? This team is going to suck for a few years, no matter what they do now. Firing Willie, omar, or all the players isn’t going to help. Take a look at this roster. It’s really pretty bad. There are only 6 or 7 guys that other teams would take, and two of them make too much money to get rid of. Remember, not even the Yankees or the RedSox were willing to do prospects and cash for Santana and the Yankees refused to pony up for Beltran.

You couldn’t give those two away right now. Wright, Reyes, Pelfrey, Feliciano, Show, Wagner, Maine, and maybe Ollie are the only guys the Mets could getanything close to value for. Take a deep breath and check back in in 2011.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Yeah, no value left in Santana. He’s terrible. Much more value in Scott Schoenweis at this point.

      • metsforever says:

didn’t say he had no value. said they couldn’t get value. BIG difference. Only a couple of teams can pay they money. Those that can (NY and BOS) have already shown they won’t make a deal. They had first dibs.

Show has more value because there is a big market for lefty specialists. Every contender needs them. The Red Sox and Yanks will be calling in July.

  535. adam900 says:

Also amazes me that they haven’t scored since like the 3rd inning but thats not the story tonight.

  536. foul bunt strikeout says:

Guys come on…we’re still in first place!

  537. D-Day says:

can arizona just blast a shot so we can go to bed, this is sad. why are the wilpons just sitting by and watching this team fold night after night. they hear the fans, JUST FIRE WILLIE AND GET IT OVER WITH!!!!!!

  538. rusty shackleford says:

I knew we should have have traded for Dontrelle Willis.

  539. Mex_17 says:

The 20 remaining fans at Shea enjoyed that strike out.

  540. Boooooo says:

heilman for two innings.. thats like playing russian roulette with 6 bullets

  541. oleosmirf says:

beltran = worst clutch hitter in baseball

wagner = worst clutch closer in baseball

if Beltran wasn’t so good in the field he would be the most overrated player in baseball

    • rusty shackleford says:

if Wagner wasn’t so good with the tarp he would be the most overrated player in baseball

  542. garykeithron says:

WHAT? a reliever can pitch more than one inning? that’s allowed?

  543. foul bunt strikeout says:

They are busy working on the Jackie Robinson Rotunda in the park that’ll resemble Ebbets Field.

They are making their money…they could care less

  544. Boooooo says:

hey who is this alan hellmun guy?

    he looks pretty good..

too bad this game is going to go and go until arizona scores and we dont.

  545. Mex_17 says:

Ok, here we go. The Mets have to get a lucky run sooner or later.

Aguila hasn’t had his soul crushed yet, maybe he’ll come through.

  546. Pacman_Jones says:

    AGUILA WALK OFF NIKKKKKAS

  547. Pacman_Jones says:

    AGUILA WALK OFF NIGGGGGGGGGGFGAS!!!!

  548. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Dear Mets,

Somebody please score a run here so my poor old dog can take a **** and go to bed and dream about a time when he still had his package intact. A time when he got more action than his idiotic owner does because he wastes his life away watching baseball.

    Thanks!

  549. garykeithron says:

poor pelf. he’s going to stay 2-6 with 15 no decisions

  550. khmustache says:

why is cowbell man still at the game? that guy annoys the crap out of me

  551. metsfanatic says:

If they can’t hit this guy they really suck.

  552. Pacman_Jones says:

COWBELL MAN IS EMPLOYE BY OMAR. HES HISPANIC!

    • NadyFan says:

      LOL

    • Boooooo says:

i heard citi field will only serve tacos and chimmichangas..

also, you have to drink dos equis and mohitos..

you also cant get int he park unless you are wearing a bandana under your hat, you work at a car shop, and have a minimum of 5 kids with 6 different women.

  553. NadyFan says:

It seems like years ago that Pelfrey was pitching a shutout into the ninth inning. Was that just all a dream?

  554. wa2k99 says:

    We’re gonna win this.

  555. Boooooo says:

if you add up schneider and chavezs stats, they almost form a complete castillo.. like voltron

  556. teufelshuffle86 says:

Alfonso Soriano out with a broken hand. He and Alou should be golf buddies.

  557. metsfanatic says:

That isn’t Cow Bell Man that is Willie hitting his head against a poll.

  558. garykeithron says:

do we have a pinch runner for schneider?

  559. Pacman_Jones says:

    Why

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

So we don’t have to use up Schneider to try and break up the double play.

  560. metsfanatic says:

That isn’t Cow Bell Man that is Bill R hitting his head in the dugout.

  561. Boooooo says:

chavez is TURRABULL… thats what charles barkley said anyways

  562. NadyFan says:

It will take 3 single to get schneider home.

  563. Pacman_Jones says:

BILL R AND ENDY DEATH MATCH ONE OF YOU NEEDS TO DIE SLW!!!

  564. Knuckles99 says:

we can’t string together two hits in a row? Playoff team? You fat spaniard!

  565. Boooooo says:

    lets go tities!!!!!!!

  566. NadyFan says:

Time for another Tatis-ED!!! Never mind

  567. brooklynmutt says:

Is there a delay if you use a new account?

  568. Knuckles99 says:

when will the DBs put the Mets out of their lifeless miseries? When I ask?

  569. MetsFan4Decades says:

To think I waited all winter for these sleepless nights and sleep deprived days at work…..

  570. teufelshuffle86 says:

    That ball was Tatis-ED!!!

  571. Boooooo says:

hey, aquilla saw 8 pitches and the other three morons saw 7 combined..

NOW THATS BIG TIME METS AT BATS FOR YA!!!!!

  572. brooklynmutt says:

I tried to post a link and it didn’t take so I figured there was some kind of delay

    • garykeithron says:

the site’s loading slow right now bc 10 million met fans are trying to vent all at the same time

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Having the same problem myself in the past couple of days. None of my first posts ever actually post anymore. And it’s slower than molasses tonight….

  573. Knuckles99 says:

I liked it better when they could use steroids to enhance performance.

  574. teufelshuffle86 says:

Why don’t we just let Vargas pitch every inning of every game.

  575. NadyFan says:

    No links allowed.

  576. adam900 says:

Well someone has to win this game…

  577. NadyFan says:

    The Unlucky 13th

  578. metsfan119 says:

I gotta fevah, and the only prescription, is more cowbell

  579. garykeithron says:

is anyone watching pelfrey to keep him from hurting himself?

  580. brooklynmutt says:

he could of got it there faster if he bowled it over there

  581. Boooooo says:

    infield singles are awesome

  582. Boooooo says:

    game time ladies..

tomorrow wil be a fun day

  583. metsforever says:

This should pretty much do it. The players even know it

  584. AlreadyMissShea says:

The Mets suck the energy out of everything around them. Even this actual website slows down to a crawl when it has to watch them play.

  585. Knuckles99 says:

here it is. wait for it….

  586. teufelshuffle86 says:

At least the bullpen is getting a rest tonight thanks to Pelfrey’s 8 shutout innings.

  587. garykeithron says:

    dear baseball gods,
please be kind to us tonight. what have we done to anger you so much? haven’t we suffered enough?

    • NadyFan says:

What would we ever do if we didn’t have Delgado’s fist pump. I shudder to think.

  588. teufelshuffle86 says:

Is there any way to get Wagner back in this game to finish off the inning?

  589. MetsFan4Decades says:

YES !! 5-4-3 around the infield – Cohen.

  590. mets19 says:

Please just win the dam game now

  591. wa2k99 says:

    Awesome D!!!!

  592. metsfanatic says:

    Viva Vargas!

  593. Knuckles99 says:

Ah! Es diablo de los ninos!

  594. AlreadyMissShea says:

OK. I know the Mets haven’t score a single run since this game started 8 hours ago. But come on. Reyes leads off. Please. Someone. Anyone. One run. Please?

  595. teufelshuffle86 says:

Great D. Now to follow up a great play with a 1-2-3 home half.

  596. MetsFan4Decades says:

Hey Matt – *Note – you need more bandwidth or something on this blog. It’s crawling….

  597. brooklynmutt says:

Well if they lose at least we can celebrate the signing of Reese Havens.

  598. metsfanatic says:

    Reyes popup what a shocker.

  599. KFS says:

well, at least Reyes gets extra chances to rack up some points for my FF team…not really capitalizing on it however.

  600. teufelshuffle86 says:

Here comes the first pitch pop up.

  601. NadyFan says:

Jose, Jose Jose Jopse ……………..ah screw it.

  602. teufelshuffle86 says:

Now for a chopper to 2nd by Castillo.

  603. Boooooo says:

did willie mays hayes pop out yet?

  604. Knuckles99 says:

    Wright goes yard.

  605. D-Day says:

if willie gets fired, i hear philly fans are plotting to stash him in the walls of citi field to curse us for all eternity!

  606. Knuckles99 says:

    okay. no more.

  607. EliPorter says:

    one lousy run please

  608. Knuckles99 says:

Lets all channel our energies at this very moment.

  609. Knuckles99 says:

o wah ta goose i yam

  610. metsfanatic says:

    C’mon D Wright!

  611. Boooooo says:

thank god its a day game tomorrow..

now we get to hear how the mets are so tired and waa waaa

if cohen says that once, he should be fired..

THE DBACKS ARE JUST AS TIRED GARY!!! remember that!!!

  612. Knuckles99 says:

he feels us. he is getting our vibes.

  613. teufelshuffle86 says:

Is it me or is Wright seeing the same pitch over and over?

    • gomets019 says:

Is it me or does Wright looked like he’s aged 7 or 8 Yrs in the last 6 months? I feel bad for him.

  614. Jefferies 9 says:

    Clutch

  615. metsforever says:

The clutch twins, Wright and Beltran. UGH

  616. Knuckles99 says:

one of you bloggers wasn’t channeling!!!!!

  617. teufelshuffle86 says:

He fouls off 5 pitches and for what? Wright has become as unclutch as beltran at times.

  618. Boooooo says:

is someone on third? sportsline show luis on first, but keeps saying pickof attempt to thid

  619. NadyFan says:

    OK got me, I’m guilty.

  620. Oh D-Wright, cmon, give some more distance on the ball next-time.

Even if these Schmets get a “W” tonite, we still have a rather big concern with Wacko-Wagner. If they want to make any kind of a run, than we’ll need Wagner to pitch his usual fast-ball down Broadway — and not give-up a homer.

  621. Boooooo says:

beltran should pop his mole to distract the pitcher, then do a bunt inside the park homerun

  622. KFS says:

What D-wright needs to do tonight is pick up a chick, take her back to his place, and let out the frustrations…Kobe-style! I heard it does wonders.

  623. dykstraw II says:

    OUTTA HERE

  624. Jefferies 9 says:

    Eurekaaaaa !!!!

  625. MetsFan4Decades says:

    YES ! Carlos !! Carlos !! Carlos !!

    Poor Pelf…

  626. AlreadyMissShea says:

Thank you for ending the game.
This team should not be celebrating too much.
Now I can walk my dog.

  627. metsfanatic says:

    FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  628. khmustache says:

    i’m gonna cry

  629. wa2k99 says:

    MR CLUTCH!!!

  630. teufelshuffle86 says:

BTW, our pal Braden Looper threw a 3-hit shutout tonight

  631. dykstraw II says:

(i didn’t think i was gonna be happy if they one…but i am)

  632. anonymii says:

Wait, what just happened? Why didn’t we lose?

  633. KFS says:

    Holy @#!$! Pinch me!

  634. Mex_17 says:

    Meh.

    • TheIcon says:

Take your pessimism out of here. Please. Just don’t watch any more if you are going to have that kind of reaction. What’s the point?

  635. MainStMets says:

    holdin out for a hero

    its outta here, outta here!!!

  636. WrightsRight says:

Beltran – gotta say, he is probably the one guy in the lineup i want up in this situation….awesome

  637. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Finally.

    Night.

  638. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Beltran never comes up with clutch hits…. **sigh**

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Gotta say though, it was still a miserable game. Just, Beltran haters, chill.

  639. YouNeedATissueToo says:

    The Mets win!

  640. metsfan119 says:

Thank GOD, listening to Ron and Gary was getting depressing

  641. ccmetfan says:

Just like I said at around 9:50, Mets will win tonight and it did

  642. I think tomorrow’s headlines should involve Wagner’s twice-bitten twice-shy performance — compared to the Mets win.

  643. backinbusiness says:

    MR CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  644. teufelshuffle86 says:

Well, we get a game back on Philly and Atlanta tonight. Not sure I am ready to ‘believe’ in this team just yet, but it’s a start.

  645. notonyourradar says:

It would be nice to win, and for it to actually feel like one. I better be hearing alot of apologizing to Pelfrey post game.

  646. mets19 says:

PEOPLE SHOULD FINALLY LAY OFF BELTRAN NOW! JUST CAUSE HE DOESNT RUN AROUND SCREAMING AT PEOPLE DOESNT MEAN HE DOESNT CARE! DID U SEE HIM THROW HIS HELMET? THERES EMOTION! HAPPY NOW?

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

I agree. I’ve always, always backed beltran, even in ‘05.

I’m not gonna pretend that this team has just been miserable, and that this does not cure it by any stretch of the imagination, but Beltran deserves the props that he is due.

  647. Knuckles99 says:

    Playoff team!

  648. EV says:

Finally!!!! Now is it too much to ask for a nice 4 game winning streak. Cohen, shut about picking up a game on the Phillies, can we get back to 500 first.

    • garykeithron says:

4-game? I’ll take a 2-game winning streak. or how bout just a nice normal 9 inning game this week where the pitcher goes 7 or 8 and the closer actually closes

    • TheIcon says:

Picking up a game is important. If you can do both at the same time, even better.

  649. metsfanatic says:

    Headline tomorrow:
    Joba may have jock itch.

  650. Whoever cares for a nice laugh . . .

Looper pitched a CG tonite and has 8-wins on the season.

    HAHA!!

  651. zen says:

    beltran, lord clutch

  652. EliPorter says:

“that ball is …. OUTTA here. the mets win the ballgame!!!”- gotta love cohen. i hope those listening on the radio didnt have to hear hagin call the dinger

    • wa2k99 says:

Man, can Howie get one walk-off call this year? He must be cringing!

    • Geese, I’ve had to listen to the D-Backs’ announcers for the first two-games since I live out in AZ.

I tell ya, talk about announcers who are quite obvious in who their team is; they’ve had some good things to say about some Mets players, with high-praise given to Pelfrey tonite.

Nevertheless, in comparison to our NY Booth-Boys, the HDC Combo — Hernandez, Darling, and Cohen — don’t come close to how high these D-Backs announcers are for their team. They put the “B” in Bias, for sure.

It was nice to take their jumpin’ for joy after they tied-up the game — and put their snake-rattlers right up their rears.

  653. chew13 says:

Woo-Hoo! Awesome! Willie still needs to go though. But enough for tonight. Glad we won.

  654. sandiegometsman says:

Wagner needs some serious electroshock therapy after another absolutely disheartening, disgusting performance.. Glad i wasn’t watching tonight… I honestly can’t watch this team right now, or not until i get my valium prescription refilled

  655. garykeithron says:

wagner’s going to have to come to the ballpark tomorrow with a big envelope of cash for pelfrey

    • sandiegometsman says:

Gotta give Pelfrey his props… Man, i was at game on Sunday when Wagner gave up dinger to Clark.. I seriously went home and had to contemplate whether or not i could watch this team anymore.. That was a freaking dagger as i stood in the bleachers watching that ball go out…. At least we battled and didn’t give up tonight… I’ll say that much

    • That’s if Wagner even makes it to the park tomorrow.

I told his Wife to hide all of their steak knives, so I hope she listened.

  656. Knuckles99 says:

    scuffling a little bit.

  657. Knuckles99 says:

    trust his stuff.

  658. breadclock says:

I love it when they celebrate like a girls softball team after walk off winners. Figgy would love it too. Too bad they’re just so damn infrequent and we have to suffer long losing streaks in between. A win’s a win’s a win, though. Great game, Pelf. Good job, Beltran.

  659. ccmetfan says:

Castro better not oversleep tomorrow or get confused about the time zones

  660. sandiegometsman says:

Haven’t seen highlights yet… What part of field did Beltran hit homer? Was it a no doubter?

  661. AlreadyMissShea says:

Well I am glad they figured out a way to win this game. What a frustrating night. At least it has a happy ending. I’m leaving first thing in the morning for the beach and I’m not even gonna think about tomorrow’s game. I’ll find out what happened sometime tomorrow night after it’s long over. I need a day off from this! To everyone who will be around tomorrow, have fun. Enjoy the game. Hopefully they’ll win the series. Baby steps!

    Have a good night!

  662. foul bunt strikeout says:

Anybody hear that scream of agony after the walk off…that was wallace matthews, mike &the mad dog and jole sherman crying that they have to change their “doom & gloom” met articles for tomorrow morning!

still feel bad that Pelf couldn’t get the much deserved W…thanks again wags!

  663. wa2k99 says:

    Shut up.

  664. MetsFan4Decades says:

second that. Understand your frustration but those types of comments have no place here.

  665. rusty shackleford says:

    LOL
And Wagner will blow a save to the tarp.
