I still have a lot of faith in this team. I believe they could win both games tomorrow.

  2. HOFMets57 says:

    Can we catch a break?

We have to play a double-header, RIGHT BEFORE we fly cross-country to California.

    Geez…

    • ness589 says:

There is an off-day Monday. That should help.

      • ness589 says:

Scratch that. Thought there was one Monday. There is one on Thursday though. The rotation may not need to be tampered with which is good.

    • Someone should make sure and tell the WHOLE team about the time difference between New York and LA. Also, make sure they all have digital clocks, so the big and little hands don’t mess them up.

  3. Keep Willie says:

We’ll see. Doubleheaders suck especially when you have to fly out west after. With Pedro and Maine going, at least we are set up nicely.

  4. BatteriesForRocker says:

    Hey, we didn’t lose today!

  5. Felix the Cat says:

Bummer. Taking my 2 little ones to their first game tomorrow and they were excited about running the bases after the game. I imagine that the Mr. Mets Dash will be cancelled now. No way they can make it through two games anyway. I was looking forward to watching Pedro tonight too.

  6. WhatASpot says:

Anyone know the start time for the second game?

    • da burg's greatest says:

yeah it is 30 min after the previous one ends…its great because if you have tickets for tomorrows game (i do) you get to see 2 games for the price of one.

  7. Jmiles says:

yes I know the start time-It’s 1/2 hour after the end of the first game.

  8. metsfan1 says:

There was a story in Newsday saying if the Mets lost last night they would have fired Willie today. What happens if he loses game 1 tomorrow? Do they fire him before game 2 or before they get on the plane to the coast?

    • TobeRinkler says:

They fire him gradually (and literally) as the plane heads for the coast.

    • metsfan1 says:

Now according to Newsday, Willie is getting on the plane. They will not fire him on Fathers Day. MAKE UP YOUR MIND ALREADY!!!

  9. 41 franchise says:

I wish they would fire Omar between games and release Delgado, payoff Alou and find a sucker to take Castillo bring up 3 kids and start building for next year.

  10. drodro22 says:

honestly ive lost confidence in manaya…..id love to see them trade castillo for WHATEVER next year and sign Orlando Hudson……

  11. ness589 says:

    Tomorrow’s game starts at 1:10.

Tickets for tonight’s game WILL NOT BE HONORED TOMORROW. People who had ticket’s for Sunday’s game have will have admission to BOTH games.

  12. ToastyJoe says:

I was at Shea tonight. Never seen so much water, drips, puddles and floods in my life. Thanks god they’re tearing this dump down. Got a nice mini replica out of the deal though!

    • mets19 says:

I was there too. The parking lot was a disaster. There was one specific area that was a complete lake! This poor guy’s car was in the dead center of it and the water was all the way up to the top of his tires! Hopefully he got home OK.

      • Mex_17 says:

        Unless it was Omar.

      • Bruce Boisclair says:

That may have been me… What to do when it’s you and your 5 year old daughter? I took off my socks and shoes, rolled up my jeans, picked up my daughter and waded in. The car started, so I was OK. (Took another 40 minutes to get out of the lot, and the Grand Central was a disaster…)

  13. TobeRinkler says:

    Let’s Go Mets!

  14. Monkeyborg says:

I saw a clip on the fox 61 news tonight of the Mets and Rangers using the tarp as a slip-n-slide. I was able to pick out castillo. It was pretty funny.

    • el_giacomo says:

Hey we gotta Fox 61 down here in Chattanooga, TN as well but I’ll go out on a limb and guess you are talking about a station up near NY, as the only Mets highlights we get are when they play the Braves…

  15. CaseStreet says:

Who should I go see? Maine or Pedro?

  16. DMAT89 says:

Monkeyborg, fortunately that was the rangers..and i think you saw Milton Bradley, but if it was the mets..and castillo was doing it…he’d be on the DL right now..so yea

  17. DMAT89 says:

the mets are too fragile to be doing that…the rangers are all young and atheletic and dont get hurt sliding on a tarp..

  18. metsfan1 says:

My brother was in Anaheim last night. He told me the Angels are selling Mets tickets for $3. Man, so much for interleague play excitement.

  19. kbh218 says:

I hope the Mets sweep tomorrow so the fire Willie talk will cool down for a while. I am sure it will be back in a couple weeks even if they do but I think it is a major distraction for the team. I think the front office should either say he is good for the rest of this season or just get it over with and fire him. Not that I think he deserves to be fired. He is no managerial genius by any stretch but this poor start is not his fault. The team is way too dependent on the health of aging veterans as well as Delgado coming back to his old form (which unfortunately does not appear to be realistic). If anyone deserves to be questioned, it is Omar although I like him a lot more than his predecessors. I really hope these guys turn it around.

  20. K-Hern says:

This organization has positioned itself into “the perfect storm” ……

coming from the Art Howe era to a base hit away from the world series (2 years….. 71 wins to 97), to the biggest regular season collapse in history (1 year….. blowing 7 game lead with 17 to play), and adopting a “win now strategy” (signing aging veterens to big contracts, and depleting the farm system for free agents)

the first year of CITI field won’t bring championship caliber results, but it will signify the beginning of a new mets era with our “core players”, and an influx of Omar’s young international/college drafted talent.

  21. DAK442 says:

$20 in gas, $15 to park, $40 worth of food, $10 toll, even $5 to buy a Shea replica from a Sox fan. Pretty close to a $100 night (not including the tickets) and no ballgame! Family-friendly entertainment, indeed.

Did see one pretty incredible thing – the inferno out in the parking lot behind Citi. Two cars were total losses. Assuming this occurred because of irresponsible hibachi placement, you gotta wonder if they put the kibosh on hibachis someday.

  22. cinco312 says:

I don’t like the straight doubleheader. It’s going to be tough on our players no?

    • Buckners Ankle says:

Don’t you think its sad that the Rangers connected with the crowd during the rain delay better than the Mets have all year. It would’ve been nice to see a few Mets out there having fun too. Instead they get shown up at home during a rainout. sad.

      • kbh218 says:

I’d rather not risk unnecessary injuries than “connect with the crowd”. Are you serious? You must be a real fan. Even when the game gets rained out you find a reason to complain about the Mets.

      • ToastyJoe says:

I KNEW IT. As soon as I saw those Rangers out there on the tarp, I said to my friend “I guarantee someone will be b*tching on Metsblog about the fact that no Mets were out there playing on the tarp.”

      • sincekindergarten says:

As I said above, I saw a clip of four Mets doing the Slip-n-Slide thing–Reyes and Wright were two of them.

  23. drew39k says:

I can’t knock the Mets for not doing the SlipNSlide. Sure it would have been fun, but you really can’t put them down for not doing it.

Anyone one remember when Robin Ventura donned a Mike Piazza jersey and a drawn on mustache during a rain delay? That was great. He ran around sliding to all the bases. Lots of fun there.

  24. mistermet says:

This “Willie Watch” has taken on a life of its own…So if the Mets sweep the Rangers, take 2/3 from Anaheim, but then proceed to lose 5 out of 6…does the Willie Watch start up again? This can’t go on.

  25. mistermet says:

The Mets have now made 3-4 announcements in the past 8 months to declare that “Willie is our manager”- the latest by Minaya on Friday…I recall another sports organization doing this kind of thing in the past 25 years. Either fire him now or declare/guarantee that he is the manager for the remainder of 2008. And fire Bernazard now- he is a menace. Rick Peterson had better not survive this firing either, if it happens- he survived the last one. I can’t recall any pitching coach in the last 25 years surviving two consecutive managerial firings. But I’ve come to expect the absurd as “the norm” with this mickey mouse franchise. And Robinson Cancel has got to go- what other MLB team carries three catchers on their rosters? IT’s a complete and total waste of a roster spot, especially on a team with a struggling offense. Cancel has had 80 at-bats in the major leagues, all of which came in 1999?!!! He had not had an at bat since then, and had an OPS under .450. If the only available catchers to be called up were caucasian, I get the feeling the Mets would not be carrying a 3rd catcher right now. What a joke.

    • ToastyJoe says:

“Willie is our manager” is the biggest non=announcement announcement you’ll ever hear. It’s like saying “today is Sunday.”

    • nrmax88 says:

I get the feeling that if we picked up the exact same player as Trot Nixon but he was peurto rican everybody would be whining and complaining. Whata joke. I cant wait until Omar shuts all of you clowns up.

      • ToastyJoe says:

You’re right. Robinson Cancel has the same big league track record as Trot Nixon. In fact, wasn’t that Cancel who hit over .400 for the Indians in the playoffs last year? Oops, that was Nixon.

      • Yeah, because this is the first team Omar has run it’s farm system into the ground. First, he destroyed the Expos/Nationals Farm system, now the Mets. I can’t wait ’till he runs out of BS and gets fired. I could throw darts at a piece of paper and pull off better deals.

  26. mistermet says:

    cannot recall*

  27. AnneM says:

This is a bit off-topic, but I thought I would ask. My husband and I are going to Shea on July 10 and since we are taking the train from NJ to Penn Station I thought it would be easier just to take the LIRR to the game. I usually take the subway, but it appears the LIRR may be quicker and easier. Can someone please let me know where the train lets you off at Shea and is it a far walk to the stadium. Thanks!!!

    • saltzy007 says:

Yea…its real easy. When you get off the NJT Train, just follow the signs for the LIRR. Its downstairs. $8.50 round trip, and it drops you off at Shea.

BTW, has anyone seen this? I was just trying to find out what the situation is for season tickets on rainouts, and this is off the Mets.com policy on rainouts…

“In the event a regulation game is not played due to weather then, unless indicated otherwise on the ticket, therain check can be exchanged for the same price seat for any regular season home game at the same facility this or next season (including, in the case of NY Mets tickets only, at Citi Field in 2009), subject to availability, or (in the case of NY Mets tickets only) refunded during this or the next calendar year at the Mets’ home ballpark or by mail to the Mets Ticket Office. If issued complimentarily, this ticket shall have no value.”

So I guess, anyone that bought tickets can try and use them next year at the new place…..thats kinda cool I guess…

    • GeorgeThomas says:

The LIRR lets you off about a quarter mile from the stadium. It could be another quarter mile or so walk depending on which gate you have to go through (Gate A is the farthest away).

  28. PittsburghMet says:

IT IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE THAT MLB HAS SCHEDULED A DOUBLEHEADER FOR TODAY WHEN THE METS NEED TO FLY TO THE WEST COAST!!!

    THERE IS ANOTHER OPTION!!!!

Now that I’m done shouting. The Mets aren’t going to land in LA until after midnight. Not too bad you say, but with the time change it’s tough. I fly to Asia and California alot and I find the time change to the West Coast worse than flying to the other side of the world.

Anyway, the rainout should have been rescheduled as an afternoon game on August 11. The Mets need to only travel to Washington for a night game on the 12th.

The Rangers were in Baltimore, playnig an afternoon game on the 10th and heading to Boston for a night game on the 12th. Both teams are rested and neither has far to travel.

A much more logical decision and one the gets the Mets to LA about 3 to 4 hours earlier.

    MLB is stupid.

    • Paid Like Mike Gallego says:

The Mets no longer have an offday on August 11. Ironically, their rained out game from April 28 against the Pirates has been rescheduled for August 11.

  29. CaseStreet says:

Any idea on what time the second game will be? It’ll probably be at 7 or 8 right?

    • stickguy says:

about 1/2 hour after the first game finishes. Since it is a single adission, they don’t need time to clear the stadium and admit the next crowd.

So, if they can finish by 4, it might start at 4:30.

  30. CannonBoy13 says:

Does anybody know how you get tickets to another game from last nights game? Do you have to turn last nights game tickets in? Thanks for your help
