One of the two greatest games I ever saw pitched was Tom Seaver's "almost perfect game" in 1969 in which the only person to reach base was Jimmy Qualls who hit a clean single to center field after 8 1/3 innings of perfect (and I mean "perfect") pitching by Seaver.

The other game was Bob Gibson's 17 strikeout performance in Game 1 of the 1968 World Series against the Tigers.

While Seaver was aloof at times to teammates and fans, he is the greatest Met to ever wear the uniform. He propelled that 1969 team to be Champions with his talent, work ethic, and no-nonsense approach to the game.

But Jerry Koosman and Nolan Ryan were my favorite pitchers on that team.

Tom Seaver has always been an inspiration to me -- his great talent, his incredible work ethic and professionalism.

Tom Terrific's pursuit of excellence makes him a fantastic role model for kids (and adults), and how rare that is for professional athletes these days.

If you want to criticize the greatest Met of all time, go become a Phillies fan.

I remember that day like it was yesterday. Of course, there was no internet back then, and no sports radio or ESPN or SNY. All you had was the back pages of the Post and the Daily News. Each trying to one up the other. And you waited for the late afternoon edition to get the latest news of the day and read the article 7 or 8 times. The NY Times came out only in the morning and sort of recapped. It happened in very slow motion. Compared to today's instantaneous communication it was like living in the dark ages. I think it's hard for kids today to really appreciate what it was like back then.

Amazing to see how much Seaver really hates these guys 31 years later and well after they're dead. I only thought fans harbored that kind of animosity. They were both bad guys and I don't blame him (I still hate them both!), but to see it after all these years without any sense of "Hey, it's in the past" is interesting.

Loved his last comment about Shea. Time to blow it up.

Today is the 31st anniversary of the darkest day I will ever remember being a Mets fan....Tom Seaver to the Reds for Zachary, Flynn, Steve Henderson and Dan Norman(the Alex Escobar of his generation).

M. Donald Grant /Dick Young were the 2 villians in the whole mess.

Also as part of the "Midnight Massacure" the Mets dealt Dave Kingman a to the Padres for ... Bobby Valentine and Paul Siebert.

2 bad trades but a nightmare that will last for this Mets fan a lifetime.

.....and that's why Dave Schneck is an afterthought in the recesses of any Mets fan's memory and Tom Seaver is a Hall of Famer.

I first saw Seaver pitch as a ten-year old in his rookie year of '67. He was my hero and nothing in the subsequent years ever led me to question that choice. Obviously he was the greatest Mets pitcher ever, but over the years one would be struck by his humor, his rambunctious laugh, his intelligence and yes, his self-confidence. Only buffoons like M. Donald Grant and Dick Young mistook that self-confidence and intelligence with pomposity.

And, if Tom Seaver has something to say about baseball (and the Mets) i for one am pretty damn interested in what he has to day.

As a Mets lifer(fan for 40 years now), Seaver always struck me as a pompous ass. He's always come off as a phony and is easily my least-liked Met ever. And, not for nothing, with what's going on with the state of the team right now, do we really need to hear what Tom (I'm so)Terrific has to say?

I'll pass.
