News: Willie, and Coaches, are in View
By Matthew Cerrone - Jun 16, 2008 6:52 pm

According to eyewitnesses, Willie Randolph, Tom Nieto, Sandy Alomar, Jerry Manuel, Rick Peterson and Howard Johnson have all been seen at the stadium in Anaheim as the Mets prepare to face the Angels.

you know what would stop this madness…if Omar Minaya would just come out and make a hard-and-fast statement about the future of this coaching staff…keyword being future, instead of obvious, in-the-now statements like, “We have coaches,” which is about as informative and comforting as, “We’re on Earth,” or, “I breath air.”…

Thank goodness they weren’t staying AT a HowardJ ohnson, or this news item would be REALLY ridiculous!

    • HOFMets57 says:

      On to more pressing matters…

Was Peterson spotted in The Jacket?

    • rogasm says:

Funny thing, my brother is staying in the same hotel with the team.

      • garykeithron says:

we could hire him to give updates on the manager and coaches…. ‘don’t see peterson….oh, he was in the bathroom. now nieto’s missing! oh, he just went back to get his sunglasses’

  2. dykstraw II says:

    but where is tom nieto?

matt, you are fanning the flames under the tom nieto hot seat!

  3. HeadlinerG60 says:

    Albert Pujols isn’t impressed.

  4. patrick says:

    Tom Glavine is devastated

  5. SoCalMetsFan says:

I feel like we are going to be playing “Where’s Willy?” for a while.

  6. stickguy says:

This is ridiculous now, isn’t it? seems like a 4th rate operation, and media coverage (hey, this thread too!) with nothing better to do.

    • ravin108 says:

Ownership should be embarrassed for how they leak their plans to the press and put not only coaches in lame duck situations, but put incredible media pressure on Omar, coaches, and players who have to answer the same questions.

Trust me, this leakage isn’t coming from Omar’s office. It’s coming from some rich guy close to Wilpon who enjoys their business partnership b/c they make tons of $$ and get to hear all the happenings before we do.

The Mets aren’t a laughing stock because they are an underperforming team. They are a laughing stock because they give off the sense that they have no more of a clue than the fans do of what their plan to succeed is.

      • Gasface77 says:

This is a story concocted by the media. Ownership would never “leak” a story that the coaches are all on the hotseat. The Mets are not the laughing stock. Omar has come out in support of Willie and I am assuming the Wilpons gave him a vote of confidence in that meeting. If the team continues to play bad, then there will be changes, if they play good they won’t. THIS IS NOT A STORY FOR THE 100TH TIME. It is common sense.

        • ravin108 says:

I don’t think the NY Post makes it up that “Willie is Day to Day” or “The plan is to fire Peterson and Nieto for the AAA guys”

Someone who knows these plans is talking and its either from Omar’s office or Wilpons. Omar’s office has way more on the line. People own baseball teams for the thrill of it. I think it puts Omar in a position to make moves before he is completely prepared to.

        • Gasface77 says:

I don’t buy it. It is a no lose story for the media outlets. If it happens, they look like geniuses. If it doesn’t, it was from certain “sources.” The entire world knows that Willie and the coaches are on thin ice. I don’t need the post or newsday or Heman to tell me that.

        • ravin108 says:

I’m sorry man, but this stuff isn’t made up. They might be making stuff up when they are “speculating”, but why was it that we got such a detailed account of “The Meeting” a few weeks ago. It wasn’t because JK Rowling was hired to create the tale.

        • ridethesnake says:

I worked in the media. This is not made up. No news source as reputable as the New York Times would print stories like they did using an unnamed source from the NY Post. They have their own sources. On top of that, if this was a non-story, Jeff Wilpon would not dodge every question and Omar’s pressers would not be so cryptic. Imagine if the Boston media started swirling stories about Francona’s job status? It would take about 11 seconds for Henry, Lucchino and Epstein to make strong statements about how laughable, and untrue it is. Wilpon, and Omar following the lead, have kept this story alive, even if it was media created and not leaked.

        • patrick says:

          Couple of things…

news source as reputable at the times? yeah their reporters have never admitted to making up stories in the recent past…

Boston? Yeah they handled the in and out and in and out of Theo Epstien tremendously well, quite professionally.

          STOP. STOP. STOP.

The dumbest thing you ever say to the NY Press are the words, never and always.

        • ridethesnake says:

I never said The Times was flawless, but it is certainly MORE reputable than the Post, which started this string of stories, and they would not run the story with the quotes they used just because the Post ran it. Trust me.

Secondly, the Theo Epstein situation had nothing to do with the example I gave. Nothing.

Both of your attempts to distinguish my reasoning for the validity of this story are irrelevant and unrelated, and I’m not sure if your point was to prove that this story is purely media created as I was trying to disprove, or if you were just being contrary so you could say stop three times in caps.

  7. HeadlinerG60 says:

How does Yadier Molina scream like a 6 year old girl when he hits a homer off Heilman, yet he made no such scream when he got hit at the plate against the Phils………to me that is a larger story than Willie traveling to the park, imo.

    • stellar says:

You’re joking, right? He got jacked up yesterday.

If you were joking, fail. If you were serious, fail.

  8. ghobot says:

man, i bet the coaches are going to play so flat after that double header and 6 hour plane flight.

why are people complaining about things like “4th rate operation”. this is some really fake outrage right now.

  9. batsinthepelfrey says:

this is an absolute disgrace. the mickey mouse way the organization has handled this entire situation is embarrassing (and even more embarrasing then the play on the field). At least on the field sometimes you can place blame on some bad breaks or physical errors. What’s your excuse here wilpons & omar? whether its stupid p.r. slogans, letting managers and coaches twist in the wind or the piss poor way they have handled ticket increases and the moving over of season ticket holders to citi, if there were standings for the front office performance, the mets would be in dead last.

  10. BeatWritersSuck says:

boooooooring….so are we going to get updates on every move willie and the coaches make…this site has gone down the drain

    • slanginsanjuan says:

actually the site is fine. the comments section is both enticing and annoying. there’s one guy who is unbearable and another who thinks he owns it. the rest are pretty much repeating the same old. there are a couple guys who are impressive and i’m wondering if they are pro’s.

the bloggers are venting like the rest of us and the news is generally bad so they are coming off negative right now. i used to read faith and fear but it turned into a hunter s novel and i really just wanted to avoid skimming all the newspaper and sports news sites and get spoonfed the news.

  11. OPP is Metsmerizing says:

if tom nieto is fired, i am changing alliances to whatever team he goes to

  12. dykstraw II says:

    haha. nice update matt.

but we all know you’ve always had an axe to grind with tom nieto.

  13. johnolerud says:

matt must be relieved willie can go to his gut…for at least one more game…

  14. metspapito24 says:

David Lennon of Newsday was interviewed by Michael Kay of 1050 ESPN during today’ s show. Mr. Lennon made statements to Mr. Kay that he is traveling with team to Orange County, CA. and he has seen Willie Randolph and his coaching staff in the Lobby at Hotel except Rick Peterson and Tom Nieto. It may be the possible firings of Peterson and Nieto any moment..

  15. gomets6091 says:

It’s good to see the front office spent all winter studying at the “New York Knicks School for Running a Franchise Into the Ground”

    Sign overpriced/overrated free agents…check
    Sign unlikable players…check
Hang your coach out to dry, then alienate your fanbase by your refusal to rectify the situation…check
    Botch multiple drafts…check
Suck on the field of play…check

    • Gina says:

There’s no sex scandal yet. Let’s thank God for that.

    • KinersKornerman says:

Next step would be to hire a manager/coach who thinks he is smarter than everybody else and believes his own BS — is there a “Buck Showalter” in the house?

  16. dykstraw II says:

    updated again!

    but nieto watch 2008…continues.

  17. garykeithron says:

‘and in related news, willie was seen entering the men’s room earlier today’

  18. Church4prez says:

    beltran dh 2nite

    • garykeithron says:

      who’s playing center?

    • johnolerud says:

was willie called into the room for a, “meeting with brass” before this decision was made.

    • mets2010 says:

thats the stupidist thing yet, the one thing he can do well is play the outfield, where do you get this from? if anything wright would be dh to give him a partial day off.

      • patrick says:

Wright is not playing on surgically repaired knees, Endy plays center well, all will be fine for cutey pie D Wright, he is phat and can stand to play at 25.

      • metsalltheway101 says:

i think castillo should dh. he played both games in the double header yesterday, and going to the opposite end of the country to play more games. Plus, he has fragile knees. get easily in there, hes been swinging a good bat as well.

        • JerryKoosman says:

I think a lot of folks (not you, of course) forget that Beltran had surgery in October on BOTH knees. He’s playing pretty well when you consider that.

        • ridethesnake says:

I’d like to see Ramon play a second straight game, even tho he went 0-4 he should DH tonight, with Beltran DH tomorrow, and Wright DH on Wednesday.

Tho Castro tomorrow would be fine too.

          Willie will probably DH Cancel

  19. patrick says:

perhaps the press “Sources” were wrong

  20. Church4prez says:

    rubins blog endy in cf

  21. metsalltheway101 says:

maybe the players should play “i spy” manegerial style rather than baseball. it would be much more entertaining, i can assure u that.

  22. AlreadyMissShea says:

I see a lot of potential in this whole thing. Now when I bring my nephews to Shea and they nag me to buy them a program so they can know who’s who in the Mets organization, I can tell them to just listen to their headphones. Every day for the rest of the season they will be able to hear Omar on the pregame show: “Willie Randolph is our manager. Howard Johnson is our hitting coach………..”

  23. kbh218 says:

In other news, according to eyewitnesses, Giuseppe Franco has been seen at his salon in Beverly Hills.

  24. cver says:

I’m not sure, (and this is from someone who long ago called for Willie to be fired, but at least the last two weeks, don’t blame his managerial decisions, for what that’s worth) but think that maybe this isn’t as simple as some of you make it out to be. Writers can project stuff and “information” can get leaked. Let’s put it this way, do the Mets think Willie should be fired? If they do, they have to find a replacement and for a 140 mil dollar team that we all want to win it all this year and every year, just giving the job midseason to the interim guy can be OK, but not necessarily. If they don’t give Manuel the job, they have to quietly hire someone else and have him ready. They have to decide on this person, negotiate a contract and bring him in for the transition seamlessly without the press getting wind of it before they make the announcement and break it to Willie, etc.

If they aren’t sure whether to keep Willie or not, which seems to be the case, what SHOULD they do? Just fire him and get it over with to turn the page, when it might not be the right move? And if it’s “wait and see” as it appears maybe to be, what should Omar say? He can’t publicly commit to Willie through the end of the season, if he’s not sure of it, nor can he state more than he and all the coaches are under constant evaluation, which he has. And why should the Wilpons come out and say they aren’t sure about Willie, if they aren’t – and you can be nearly sure that they’re not, nor should they be.

I think it is quite interesting that the bullpen has been mentioned as one huge problem and a reason that Petersen could be fired as early as today (although he’s been sighted in Anaheim apparently) and that bullpen coach Guy Conti’s name hasn’t once been mentioned. Some of you might remember that I wrote an article about him on here last year. The guy is legendary and quite close with Pedro. I’m not saying he should or shouldn’t be fired, but no one ever mentions him. I’ll state again that if Petersen is fired, the Mets MUST GET LEO MAZZONE signed LONGTERM!!!

    • ridethesnake says:

Once this got leaked and they were questioned on it, they had to make a quick decision, even if they were not ready. This should have consisted of a one hour meeting, an announcement that this was a tough decision, that Manuel will take over for the road trip, and a search for a new manager will begin immediately, and that Manuel was a candidate.

      • cver says:

If that is true and the decision has been made, why wasn’t it done? You are absolutely right, if your assumptions are all correct. But, are they? I sure haven’t got a clue.

Let’s put this on a human level (and I realise that Willie will more money than most people will see no matter what), if somebody in your office put out a rumor about you, would you want your boss to fire you based only on that, if your boss was on the fence? All of this PR stuff is BS. I ultimately, as I think you do, want what will be best for the Mets winning games. But yes, there is another human side – letting a guy twist in the wind very publicly is cruel, too. There have been other managers though who twisted and came back and were glad, I’m sure, to not have their fate decided by leaks. I hate to say it, but Charlie Manuel was very close to being gone at one point, but went on to win a certain division with a little help from…. ugh.

    • slanginsanjuan says:

i know mazzone is good….and you are well informed and written…but why do we need to take x-yanks or x-braves? anyone else please.

      • cver says:

I know. I hate the idea. But the guy is great! It might end up being as ill-fated as bringing Glavine to the team, but in my mind, if we are gonna look for a new pitching coach (and I’m not saying that we should or shouldn’t, but if), how can we pass up Mazzone? If for no other reason, it would otherwise be just a matter of time before he ends up with the Braves and probably turns them back around (you have to admit, there is a correlation with when he left, they stopped winning divisions)

  25. the Straw says:

What will happen with more frequency tonight, we get an update on Willie Watch or the Phillies hit Homeruns off Fatolo Colon.

    Phils already hit 3

    • CitizenSnips says:

The two Howard hit BARELY made it into the stands. Would’ve been caught at the warning track or off the wall at a normal ball park.

  26. cver says:

I’ll also add that when I heard that Nieto was shifted to 1B coach, I immediately didn’t get that. Why put a former catcher as as a 1B coach. Catchers do know a lot about throwing out guy’s stealing bases, but usually the 1B coach is a guy who steals bases. I think it’s cool when a loyal employee is rewarded with a promotion, but this seems to me to have been a misplaced assignment. As it was nice that he was rewarded, it doesn’t seem fair for him to be totally canned because Omar misplaced him. Hopefully, if he doesn’t get to stay on as 1B coach, he will be able to stay in the organization. Who knows how much credit or blame Ho Jo deserves. Delgado said that he was working with him and his bat has recently heated up. I would HATE to see my man Ho Jo be fired. He was fine as a 1B coach. If he doesn’t stay on as hitting coach, put him back at 1B. Maybe 3’s the charm for Rick Down:)

  27. LGNYM says:

Statements aren’t going to do anything. Omar was pretty direct with his comments last time, about Willie being his guy, and all it did was buy a couple weeks until the Mets started struggling again.

The only things that will put an end to the talk are the Mets winning or Willie being fired. Anything else (even Omar saying Willie has the year) won’t do anything to shut people up completely.

  28. General Millz says:

Based on the lineup for tonight, I think D. Wright should hit from the left side just for the fun of it. Is this the first time the Mets ever had 8 left handed bats in a starting lineup?

  29. nrmax88 says:

I dont understand this whole idea that Omar has to fire Willie or announce he is here for the year. Why? Willie keeps losing, why should he be gaurunteed the year? What if the mets drop 15 of 20, then fire Willie, then Omar has to hear it because he said willie was “safe”. Omar like Willie and doesn’t want to fire him, but that doesn’t mean he has to gauruntee his job all season. If they win, Willie stays, if they keep losing, he goes. Its really that simple.

    • patrick says:

you are dead on, there would be no willie watch anyhow had he not made those stupid comments “off the record” three weeks ago, Willie put himself in a corner all by himself otherwise he very well would have come out of the regular meeting at that time with a total carte blanche.

I like WIllie, but it is win or else now. That is how it goes.

  30. jbinva says:

This just in. Mr. Met has not, I repeat has not, been sighted at the team hotel. Efforts to contact his family have been unsuccessful.

GM Omar Minaya states “We had a mascot yesterday – we may have one today. He doesn’t usually come to road games, and he’s a little scared of the rally monkey, so it may not mean anything. Then again, it might. I can’t be any clearer than that.

Rumors have been dogging Mr. Met ever since an unfortunate incident involving the home run apple a few days ago.

In New Orleans, they are reportedly preparing for life without a mascot. Mr. Zephyr was not available for comment.

    • nrmax88 says:

Was that supposed to be funny?

      • jbinva says:

Kinda sorta. Sorry it didn’t tickle your funny bone. Maybe I should have added a Slappy-style disclaimer.

Frustrating days, lots of touchy fans. A healthy sense of humor can be a good thing.

I was born in 1962, a Mets fan all my life, through the good and the bad. This year has not been easy, but things have often been worse.

So yeah, try to see the funny. It’s been pretty easy the last wek or so.

    • KinersKornerman says:

      lmao, that’s priceless

  31. GregB says:

Omar has backed himself into a corner…while I’m sure he would like to give Willie a vote of confidence, he also needs to be able to fire him if the Mets go into another tailspin…at this point he almost has to fire Willie just to stop the media barrage.

  32. 41 franchise says:

    Memo to Omar:

Forget about hiring/firing coaches… go out and get us a couple of hitters for this pathetic lineup..
Then the pitchers won’t have to worry aqbout being so fine and our bullpen can actually pitch without being fearful of giving up a run..

Omar, you put together a crappy offensive team and we are paying the price for it.

    • NadyFan says:

      Amen. This offense is pittiful.

      • nrmax88 says:

Yeah, it can’t have anything to do with the cat that our 2 starting corner outfielder are hurt and David Wright has been absolutely pathetic the last 2 months can it?

        • 41 franchise says:

Not as much as you think. you still haceve Castillo, Delgado, Schnider, pitchers spot-that’s four even with Alou and Church-and no power off the bench.

        • nrmax88 says:

Castillo has been fine offensively. Much, much better then Loduca was in the 2 hole. Schneider is a catcher who bats 8th. We dont need offense from him. Delgado should be batting 7th but is batting 5 because of injuries. I would look for a real LF that can play everyday but when healthy the offense is okay. The pitching is outstanding. This team wasn’t picked by every single person that matters to win the division and walk to the WS for no reason.

      • 41 franchise says:

We are playing with 3 THREATs 3. Reyes ,Wright and Beltran. The rest of the line up is awful.

So basically we have 3 times a game that we have a shot to score.

Do your job Omar and give Willie some firepower!!

        • nrmax88 says:

Wright is nothing even resebling a threat right now. He is actually the biggest problem, by far, with the offense right now.

  33. johnolerud says:

Will Carroll from Baseball Prospectus is reporting that Rick Peterson has been fired

    • johnolerud says:

the mets are going to regret this move… rick and willie clash to begin with… in my opinion, this is a move in favor of willie… just awful

  34. Church4prez says:

its not true. the jacket s there and in uniform

    • johnolerud says:

this coming from someone who fabricated information about a closed door meeting yesterday?… i’ll believe anyone from BP over many of the blowhards in our NY media

  35. Church4prez says:

lennons blog has him in uni and preparation

  36. Church4prez says:

and willie was in a meeting last night so you guys who are ripping me are wrong

  37. MC Censor says:

    OK, here is the deal:

The Wilpons (I will save their nickname for a later date) want Willie out and have since the end of last season.

They have left it up to Omar to fire him.

Omar won’t fire Willie because once he is gone there is nobody left to blame but old has beens who don’t belong in big leagues and BAM… Minaya’s head goes right on the chopping block.

By doing this, Omar is unknowingly digging his own grave because this group of geriatrics won’t be much better under Jerry Manuel ((no pun intended there, I promise).

The countdown at Shea is for more than the remaining home games, its how many home games Paymore Moneya has left as GM.

    Lets see some Sabermetrics.

    • johnolerud says:

let’s see some sabermetrics? what does sabermetrics have to do with the willie watch?

      • MC Censor says:

Willie watch is nonsense. I dont think he is going anywhere because it would almost ensure Omar getting canned after the season, which I think happens no matter what.

Sabermetrics have to do with my preferences for a new GM, which I would much rather have than a new manager.

        • nrmax88 says:

Omar is here to stay, I will tell you with 100 percent certainty Omar is here atleast through next year. What you morons want or think (even though you all change your minds about everything everyday) makes no difference.

        • MC Censor says:

And you say this with the 100% certainty that you call up WFAN at night and are convinced that trading Stephon Marbury for Jeff Lagamen and Jumbo Elliot is the best move the Knicks could make this offseason.

        • johnolerud says:

I am a sabermatrician… if this organization needs a change (in a sabermetric sense), firing randolph is the obvious first choice. Willie is more or less the classic, “old school” manager. He finds numbers misleading, usually goes with the moment, loves running and bunting (ala, giving up outs)…etc…

People who are proponents of Omar’s ousting can justify themselves as well. Look, this team is 35-37 (with a 140 million dollar pay roll), nothing can excuse their play… it’s been brutal. However, the Mets have had to deal with constant injury problems, age being a major factor, and that is where I put blame on Minaya. This team is just too old. However, they are not a team that should be under .500. At worst, this team should be 2-5 games over .500. The reason Willie should be fired is due to the constant on the field managing mistakes he makes game in, and game out. He is a very static manager, never willing to change. It’s like the guy on the job who always eats the same thing for lunch day after day. Heilman, heilman, heilman… in a close game… last year… mota, mota, mota…. the bottom line is the team for better or for worse needs a new voice, he needs to be the first to go… play your cards with manuel for the rest of the year, and hey, maybe you get hot, and make the playoffs (ala Phil Garner)

        • MC Censor says:

First off, sweet batting helmet dude.

I agree with what you’re saying, and before this whole mess I was captaining the fire Willie boat like one of the dudes on Deadliest Catch.

Omar should get infinitely more blame than Willie, he emptied the farm system by overpaying for aging players and signed even older players. The difference Willie’s poor decisions (never pinch hitting a catcher, obsessively going R/L/R/L, pitching replacements and batting people out of what would be a wiser order) shouldn’t make that much of a difference if the lineup was a) healthy b) actually consisted of baseball players.

NO GM IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD EVER HAVE GIVEN CASTILLO A 4 YEAR DEAL AND CUT GOTAY ON TOP OF IT.

        • Giuseppe Franco for GM says:

Hey, I’m Giuseppe Franco. I don’t own the team. I don’t know anything about it. I just sign players that were good–once.

Oh wait, that’s Minaya’s commercial. Long contracts, hoping for past glories and denying the present while deluding himself with lifetime stats. Willie makes some curious decisions—or nondecisions but he’s playing with the crumbling cards that Omar dealt him.

        • MC Censor says:

Im a bit upset about the Rick Peterson firing, I mean, he had the best potential for a Guiseppe Franco hairdo on the squad.

  38. garykeithron says:

omg they’re doing ‘willie watch updates’ on sny. how sad

    • 41 franchise says:

Pretty soon the coaching staff will be asked questions on beer money.

      Rick wanna go for $30?

      • garykeithron says:

        that’s hysterical.

….and, as a side note, a game is SCHEDULED to be played tonight between the Mets and Angels. However the game could be postponed due to media and omar-related insanity

  39. c.1970 says:

“omg they’re doing ‘willie watch updates’ on sny. how sad”

That’s Steve Somers making fun of the entire farce.

    • Really Carl Pavano says:

what are they watching for. Are they watching to see if I will pitch again? I dont get it.

  40. Church4prez says:

    IS THE JACKET REALLY OUT???

  41. kjmcc0729 says:

    From Baseball Prospectus:

    Breaking: Peterson Fired

    by Will Carroll

Sources tell me that Rick Peterson has been fired as pitching coach of the New York Mets. As yet, this cannot be confirmed, though reports this weekend have been leaning this way. We’ll know more shortly.

by the way, love the lineup tonight!

Nice move dh’ing beltran. he is a terrible defensive center fielder and he needs a blow. I know that others have suggested that wright dh so he can get a breather, but those people don’t know their guys as well as willie. Wright is younger than beltran, and if he is tired he just needs to suck it up!

  43. Church4prez says:

the dude has no sources. f him. he is a skankee fan anyway

  44. NadyFan says:

I hope you were being sarcastic when you say Beltran “Is a terrible defensive center fielder”. If you were not being sarcastic then you are a complete idiot, sorry to have to tell you. The guys has won how many Gold Gloves? Un freakin believable.

  45. Really Carl Pavano says:

    Dear Willie,

The other day the Yankees were home and I was home about to watch Oceans Thirteen. So what did I do? I watched it and didn’t even find out the score of the Yankees game. It can be fun to get paid without even doing very taxing baseball game work.

The moral of the story here is this: … I was in like the class with Beckett and he works and all that. So I don’t see that need. I get the same money.

It’s people like Beckett that are sad workers. You’ll get fired you’ll come by here and we will smoke up.

    Truly Your’s,
    Carl Pavano

PS: Moishe Alou and I are startin’ a camp for kids that want to not work at all or sort of fake working and then pretend to be hurt.

Note: its a full-contact camp where we show you how to get real injuries that check out with doctors of teams and stuff.

    Maybe come by willie.

  46. kjmcc0729 says:

The good news is that the Phillies seem to take their foot off of the gas. The way that they are playing it should not be very difficult to overtake them.

Oh, and that is sarcasm, just in case there is a question about my intellijense.

    • Really Carl Pavano says:

I’m not feelin this guy. KJ i dont care for you.

      • kjmcc0729 says:

That is too bad, are you saying you aren’t my friend? I would hate to think that you weren’t my friend.

        • Really Carl Pavano says:

look im carl pavano. i dont even like know you yet. and now youre all up in here asking if we are friends. I cant say right now. i will think about it. relax and lower that tone.

        • kjmcc0729 says:

I just couldn’t stand it if you weren’t my friend.

Especially after that amazing pretend-Carl Pavano-letter post. I couldn’t bear the thought of not being able to count someone as clever, witty, and talented as you amongst my friends.

        • Really Carl Pavano says:

          this is really him

        • GregB says:

the real carl pavano couldn’t make this many posts without getting hurt.

        • Really Carl Pavano says:

THIS AINT TRUE BECUSE I IS HIM

  47. patrick says:

why is it not fair, if Minaya absolutely believes Randolph will get this fixed, OR if he believes he needs to buy time to get Randolph reinforcements, why should he not keep it day to day

  48. teufelshuffle86 says:

Then he needs to be honest. If he thinks that Willie is the right man for the job then he should say it and stick to it. If he thinks he is not the right man for the job then he should be fired.

They are obviously to the point where they have concerns about Willie, and rightly so. They should be able to make a decision at this point rather than dragging this out. I can’t imagine that the outcome of tonight’s game should have any effect on whether the Mets can win tomorrow night with Willie as their manager. He’s either the right man for the job or he’s not, and at this point it shouldn’t be a day-to-day thing.

  49. nrmax88 says:

Exactly. Once again, the majority of our fanbase has bought into the media hype, and are running with it. Surprising huh? Maybe Omar likes Willie and doesn’t want to fire him and is trying to give him every chance to turn this around. Now how is that not fair? At most jobs, if you and everyone of the people under you are severely under-performing, you get fired. What shjould Omar do, give him a Steinbrenner -esque deadline? We have to be 10 over by July 15 or you’re gone? What would all of you geniuses like to be done. All this “this is so unfair to willie” is a gigantic freakin joke. Just win games.

  50. teufelshuffle86 says:

Right, when you are underperforming you get fired, but your boss doesn’t email everyone in the company everyday and say “Joe is our marketing manager today but we’ll continue to evaluate him everyday, we are always evaluating his performance” then leak rumors to other employees about who is in line to take your job.

  51. nrmax88 says:

Omar is not coming out everyday and scheduling press conferences to tell us this cr*p about Willie. People ask him about 100 times everyday. So yeah, horrible analogy

  52. nrmax88 says:

Plus you are stating rumors as facts.

  53. teufelshuffle86 says:

It’s not a horrible analogy, it’s the only example I can come up with for a boss to be commenting publicly about a job performance. That was a direct quote from Omar. We are updated almost everyday on Willie job status whether we like it or not. Not exactly a lot of analogies in the business world.

  54. nrmax88 says:

Noo…. its a horrible analogy, because you made it seem as if Omar is calling meetins and press conferences to tell everybody Willie is our manager right now. This isn’t the case. He is simply asked every single day.

  55. teufelshuffle86 says:

Whether Omar is calling the PC’s or not is not the point. The point is that he is still saying things like “Willie is our manager TODAY” and “I am evaluating him everyday.” That is the team’s attitude and it’s not fair to Willie. If he is behind Willie 100% then he should say so. “Willie is the manager of this team, end of story.” That’s all.
