Phillies losing 3-0 to the Angels….would love to see them get swept

LETS GO METS….time to beat the team that probably would have swept us out of the first round if we managed to win 2 more games last year

  2. SoCalMetsFan says:

Come on… one game at a time boys.

  3. the Straw says:

No Castillo again. Anyone know if this is an injury thing or a Jerry Manuel thing???

    • the Straw says:

i answered my own question but in case anyone else was wondering…

Luis Castillo is sitting out a second game Friday because of a wrist injury.

He’s day-to-day. Damion Easley is playing second base and batting seventh.

      • BeatWritersSuck says:

no…his wrist is fine…Jerry is rewarding him some playing time for the home run,,,read it at Adam Rubin’s blog.

    • he’s day-to-day because of his wrist

  4. mark5674 says:

    two left fielders? awsome

    • Jersey Shore Mets says:

Yup. There is going to be a lot of action out there in left tonight…haha.

    • garykeithron says:

lol, they better catch all the balls going out to left or we’ll know they really suck

  5. rock4989 says:

Maybe its Manuel realizing Castillo is a much better hitter from the right side of the plate

  6. Two-By-Four says:

Does anyone know what the 2008 overall inter-league record is presently? I know the Mets are doing well in this regard. Perhaps we just need to be in a tougher league to keep the lads interest piqued? :)

  7. FireOmar says:

I think he is out with a contusion to the wrist. He will be spending the night out on the town with Tony Bernazard to talk behind Manuels back.

  8. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Strong thunder storms in the Denver Area, would hate for this team to play another double header.

    • Jersey Shore Mets says:

The thunderstorm watch is only until 9:00 so hopefully they will be fine.

    • metsintexas420 says:

The storms are to the east of downtown Denver, where Coors Field is located.

I’m not too worried. Maybe a delay, but not postponed.

    • garykeithron says:

lol, i think the team should tarp slide and see how many injuries result from that….

  9. Mr.MET says:

who cares, as long as hes out we have a pretty good chance at winning…anyone know when Church is due back?

  10. MetsFan4Decades says:

Here’s hoping it’s a solid outing from Maine tonight. Time to start climbing up….

  11. MetsFan234 says:

With Brian Schneider behind the plate, i think John Maine will get the win. I say that because John Maine won more games this year with Schneider behind the plate then he did with Castro or Casonova.

Just so you know “The Straw” Luis Castillo, i think, left the game against the Angels for some injury.

  12. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Chavez in right.

  13. khmustache says:

    where’s burkhardt?

  14. TobeRinkler says:

Maz’s commentary is as sharp as his suit–yet I can’t help but think that he & Yalloff sound like they’re setting us up for a Reyes trade…

  15. khmustache says:

heilman for fuentes…that would be wonderful

  16. DMAT89 says:

whos filling in for burkhardt? i missed pregame show

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      Matt Yaloff

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

Sorry, that’s not right. As usual, I’m having problems with posts tonight. It’s not Matt (who of course is doing the pre game show with maz) and his name is on the tip of my tongue but I can’t pull it out…..

  17. khmustache says:

luis castillo needs competition…it seems like he gets bored quite often

  18. MetsFan21 says:

Luis Castillo’s new competition is REESE HAVENS… Anyhow, just a thought: Should the Mets become sellers if the season does not get turned around, is it fair to say that the following players should be traded in order to get some type of value/prospects in return: Carlos Delgado, Pedro Martinez, Oliver Perez, Brian Schneider, Scott Schoenweis, Aaron Heilman & Moises Alou. Here’s a BIG IF (not that it will happen): Carlos Beltran.

  19. mark5674 says:

    i hate cook.. screw him

  20. The Glider says:

If David Wright, by the end of the season, hit the following:

    30 HR; 108 RBIs; .272 AVG.

. . . would you say his had a good year?

    • khmustache says:

good for most, but still lower than expectations

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yes. 108 RBIs? That’s a good number, you’d have to assume helped win ballgames and isn’t that really the bottom line?

    • Metdamage says:

Decent….but thats a step back for David.

      • gipper82475 says:

Good but not great – AVG should be higher and RBIs too – what are you predicting his OBP to be? OPS?

A lot has to do with his pressing while the lineup has struggles and sputtered and started and stopped thanks to bad stretches by the Carloses, injuries to alou, Church, etc.

  21. khmustache says:

do the mets attract rain? they have to have more rain delays than any other team in baseball

  22. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Oh, Christ.

  23. The Glider says:

Where’s the magic touch of Jerry Manuel? I guess he’ll at some point tell Maine that he has to get some guys out.

    Manuel = Genius

  24. metsfan119 says:

    Good start

  25. mark5674 says:

were gonna lose this game, i can tell already… maine doesnt look good, and cook will throw another CG or close to it

  26. I was at least hoping to feel the usual nausea during the 2nd-inning, yikes!

The Phillies should probably lose tonite, so here’s another chance for the Mets to win a biggie.

  27. metsfan119 says:

and the ump is squeezing Maine too

  28. skylog says:

nice way to start a game. at least the mets looked good at the plate in the top half

  29. garykeithron says:

did someone mention that mike carp’s defense sucks? I was watching him play first today and he looked awfully like delgado today as he overran a routine ground ball for an error

    • The Glider says:

Thank you for that wonderful news. What next? FMart can’t hit lefties?

      • Dafatone80 says:

That’s the reason Carp’s not up.

Oh, and Delgado’s hitting just well enough to keep his job.

  30. metsfan119 says:

    come on, big inning here

  31. OH YES!! JUST LIKE THAT — IT’S TIED!!

    WOOOOOOOOOO!!

  32. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, man – Carlos! Way to get us back in the game!

  33. gipper82475 says:

    Delgado plays for Manuel.

    He’s gangsta.

  34. khmustache says:

wow…is it true?…i think delgado might be waking up!

  35. The Glider says:

Hey Matt, what’s up with this delay? Is this all Pacman’s fault? If so, cut some bacon off his back and ban him (the pessimistic bastard).

    • metsfan119 says:

      seriously, this delay sucks

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

LOL – but seriously – it’s been horrible this past week trying to post anything. Don’t know what the problem is but it’s never been this bad….

  36. The Glider says:

Carlos, my man. I love Carlos Delgado. What a first baseman.

  37. playmaker3128 says:

Is it me or does delgado’s bat look a little bit quicker these past two games.

  38. skylog says:

    that was a nice surprise

  39. Did Trot Nixon ever used to be good?

One of those players who played one decent season and then took a nap.

  40. metsfan119 says:

Willie Randolph would’ve never managed together this second inning comeback

    • The Glider says:

Right. Jerry Manuel knows how to get his players to get base hits. It’s a family secret. He looks a certain way at you, and you get a base hit.

    • Metdamage says:

So Manuel managed them to hits? Will he manage them to strikeouts too?

      • metsfan119 says:

I was kind of joking, although I am thrilled that Willie is finally gone

        • Metdamage says:

Change was needed. Although the team got rolling with Willie at the helm, Manuel will get much of the credit.

  41. stickguy says:

It was a nive AB, but I still refuse to like Delgado!

At least manual seems to be burying Cstillo, so that is good news.

Warthan needs to earn his new big paycheck and get Maine going with that extra pitch he needs to take out guys (2 seamer?).

Or with balls flying, maybe they didn’t pay the rent on the humidor?

  42. MetsFan4Decades says:

Jose! Ya just gotta love him. I don’t even want to hear trade rumors that involve his name….

  43. The Glider says:

Fellas, the magic of Manuel is at work. It’s called “The Manuel Mystique.”

  44. MetsFan4Decades says:

    And this time Schneider scores!

  45. khmustache says:

    schneider is incredibly slow…nice slide

  46. playmaker3128 says:

I have much more confidence in this team without luis in the 2 hole. Even though he’s been pretty decent. I don’t feel were as scary. I know he’s supposed to play tomorrow, but i’d love to see him toward the bottom of the order tomorrow.

Nice job by aguila sending schneider. Know where the outfielders are playing. Right fielder playing very deep.

  47. The Glider says:

Jerry Manuel San. Show me the way.

  48. MetsFan4Decades says:

5 runs in! Keep ‘em coming.

  49. gipper82475 says:

Big inning, big inning!…no Whammies!!!!..Big inning!

  50. ReyesRocks says:

Who cares about WHY, the simple fact is the Willie Randolph is gone, Jerry Manuel is our manager, and for some reason this team has a little excitement and thunder behind it.

    This is absolutely awesome.
    Yeah, Jerry Manuel Mistique

    • The Glider says:

You moron, Willie won 3 of 4 when he was fired. (Oh god, help me deal.)

      • garykeithron says:

thank you for someone sticking up for willie

        • gipper82475 says:

Yes, Willie was a smart man.

Willie was a savvy baseball strategist.

          Willie understood the NL game.

          Willie kept the clubhouse loose.

          Willie was a master motivator.

Willie was not paranoid nor delusional.

Willie was…..oh, hell,. I have to stop, i’m laughing too hard!

          Good riddannce to bad rubbish!!!

        • Metdamage says:

Bad rubbish with six World Championship rings. If I was Willie, I would have worn them those last few weeks. Between the Wilpons, Bernazard and Omar they have combined 1 World Series ring.

But change was needed let go Mets, lets go Manuel!

  51. The .500 Club says:

    I love Jerry Manuel.

  52. The Glider says:

Matt, I’m gonna end up with tendonitis in my right index finger from hitting the refresh button over and over and over and over and over . . . .

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yeah, there’s got to be a better way, Matt. Maybe if we all comment, he’ll realize there’s a problem and get his IT gurus on it (hopefully he’s got at least one. Saw a bio on him where web sites/techncology is really not his forte.

  53. Metdamage says:

Maybe no one has noticed but Reyes started the season very slow. He is now hitting .298.

If we aren’t getting Volquez and Cueto or Sizemore and Lee, then Reyes better be a Met.

  54. the Straw says:

You bunch of whiners….this is a new team. This is Jerrys team. THEY ARE GANGSTA.

  55. playmaker3128 says:

hahaha, glider. Don’t worry that will be alou’s next injury.

  56. khmustache says:

i wish sny would stop showing derek jeter commercials…i really hate his stupid voice

  57. dr jones says:

    holy two out hits batman!!!

  58. metsfan119 says:

If the Mets start to win now that Willie is gone what are the tabloids going to bitch about?

    • The Glider says:

Have you looked at the history of our records after we replaced managers mid-season? Well, let me tell you, it ain’t pretty. Manuel is playing with the same deck of cards Willie was playing with.

“Oh, but Manuel will work his mojo.”

      Yeah, ok. right.

      • metsfan119 says:

True, but usually the teams that got new managers where horrible, I still think this team has talent and hopefully they’ll respond better to a new skipper (I always argued it was worth the managerial change to find out since clearly the team wasn’t responding to Willie anyway).

      • dr jones says:

Let it go man, Let it go,, willie is already a distant memory.

    • Metdamage says:

Nothing. Wins will heal the fan base and create goodwill with the media. But to say that the media was “bitching” is crazy. The Mets deserved every bit of what they got. The Willie situation was embarrassing for all Met fans but wins is what this is all about.

Now, how they fire Manuel after we get to the playoffs is a different story. Regardless of what happens, Manuel cannot be the long term manager.

  59. gipper82475 says:

Offense puts up a great inning and a Mets pitcher follows it with a leadoff frickin walk. Ah, the joy of being a Mets fan!

  60. stickguy says:

gonna be a long game with Maine tonight (and I don’t mean he is going 8 innings!)

Why do Mets starters have such a fear (or inability?) of throwing a ouple of strikes, and ever getting ahead of a batter?

  61. The Glider says:

    Angels 7; Phillies 1

    Bwhahahahahahahahahahaha.

  62. metsfan119 says:

Thankfully Manuel played Chavez with this ridiculous outfield

  63. The Glider says:

Trot Nixon taking a walk down Memory Lane.

  64. MetsFan4Decades says:

Gary – ‘And it was a Bomb. Nixon ‘trots’ in’…..
    Whoo-Hooo!!

  65. dr jones says:

Damn it feels good to be a Gangsta!

  66. TenTonHammer says:

LOL. Trot killed that ball. Off the 2nd deck facing. LOL.

  67. VelvetFoot says:

Is that Ronnie Lane doing the play by play on Rockies radio (I have XM)?

  68. the Straw says:

I think its time to get over the fact that willie is gone, and start thinking that maybe a new manager can make a difference. even if it is wishful thinking.

    Im looking at you Glider.

Im thinking that since the collapse last year this team has played tight under willie, pressing too much. I think Manuel has come in and immediately lightened the mood, allowing the players to relax somewhat and have fun.

    • Metdamage says:

Agreed. The organization wanted Willie gone now hopefully everyone is on the same page.

  69. metsfan119 says:

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Helton struck out before

  70. gipper82475 says:

    Johnnie Maine!

  71. metsfan119 says:

Good recovery by Maine after the first inning, I’m sure he’s thrown over 80 pitches but I’ll take it

  72. VelvetFoot says:

    59 pitches

  73. Willie randolph looks worse with every run the mets score

  74. garykeithron says:

wow the site is super slow tonite. anyone else getting funky errors when you refresh?

  75. a817 says:

Dam the braves suck, couldn’t be happier. Take that Jayson Stark

  76. SunsetParkBK says:

    Endy, he’s an octopus

  77. The Glider says:

Oooooooohhhhh, thank God Jerry Manuel had the managerial instincts to put Chavez in the line-up tonight. Shear genius.

    • garykeithron says:

lol. i’m wondering where all the “get rid of endy” fans are right now.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m here. I love Endy. I’ll never forget that catch in the NLCS against the Cards…

        • garykeithron says:

          that was so amazing.
kind of interesting he’s batting second. don’t think i’ve ever seen him there before

      • metsfan119 says:

this jackass is just upset because I made a comment that he mistook as a slight on Willie

        • The Glider says:

Oh, liar, liar, pants on fire. Yes, you were slighting Willie. P*ssing on his grave. “A little bit; yes, you did.”

        • The Glider says:

You’re just mad because I nabbed you, red-handed.

      • The Glider says:

I’m telling you . . . lol. Cognitive dissonance is all over this joint. The Willie-hater are creaming in their pants. I mean, Manuel was Willie’s hand-picked bench coach. They were seen side-by-side every game talking to each other. This was Willie’s first managerial job. He clearly relied on Manuel for in-game decisions.

It’s all such a bad joke.

        • the Straw says:

Im not sure that he was his hand picked bench coach. I dont think willie had any input in Manuel. I remember reading something that Manuel was seeing he didnt even know willie until he joined the mets.

The old hitting coach was the only one of “willies guys”.

But none of that matters. Its about helping this team find an identity. Which is something he couldnt do as a bench coach. He obv communicates with the players much more than willie, and i would bet his sense of humor is something the players consider refreshing.

        • The Glider says:

That’s what Manuel says now (”Who’s ‘Willie Randolph’?”) LOL. Trust me. Hand-picked. Read the articles. Do “the Google” as John McCain says.

        • the Straw says:

          yeah because you would know.

        • TenTonHammer says:

It’s also clear, according to team insiders, that Manuel viewed Randolph as stubborn and overmatched. Randolph would frequently ignore Manuel’s advice as bench coach, even though Manuel had managed the White Sox to a 500-471 record from 1998-2003 and Randolph was a first-time skipper.

As Per Adam Rubin. So…you may not be concrete on that.

        • the Straw says:

          thank you sir.

    • TobeRinkler says:

      What a wooly comment.

  78. the Straw says:

How good a fielder is endy chavez! Him and Victorino are the best fielding outfielders in baseball.

  79. Church4prez says:

    TROT!!! ROLLIN WIT DA GANGSTAS!!!

  80. khmustache says:

not bad for a career right fielder

  81. c.1970 says:

I hate to say it, but “Nixon’s the One.” [Ouch!]

  82. the Straw says:

Outfield looks good tonight. Team is hitting the ball well tonight…nice job Jerry.

  83. MetsFan4Decades says:

Wow. Nice catch, Trot. Like this effort I’m seeing from all – something that’s been missing for awhile.

  84. MetsFan4Decades says:

Man, my posts are like a half inning behind. It’s gonna get real confusing, real fast in here…..

  85. Church4prez says:

why they take so long to post??

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

It’s that ‘comment moderation is enabled. Your comment may take some time to appear’ option they’ve got turned on. Wish they would turn that off.

    • The Glider says:

I feel like Homer Simpson . . . hit refresh, hit refresh, hit refresh, hit refresh, hit refresh, hit refresh, hit refresh . . .

  86. garykeithron says:

wait, why is beltran only on first? watching his hit?

  87. MetsFan4Decades says:

The camera guys need to get on the stick tonight. This almost pickoff is like the 3rd play they’ve failed to key on that I had to wait for the replay to see…..

  88. Danny1986 says:

Anyone else REALLY liking the Manuel effect on these guys?

  89. metsfan119 says:

    blister?

  90. MetsFan4Decades says:

D-Wright – nice play. They are just looking sharp in the field tonight.

  91. AzMetsFan says:

Wow, A+ for Mets Defense tonight so far!

  92. garykeithron says:

what did they see maine that they conferred at the mound? i know about his finger, but why just then?

  93. dr jones says:

smiles all around from these guys.. Great to see.. Even fun to watch

  94. the Straw says:

That was a huge inning for maine to plow thru 1 2 3.
Thats why hes my favorite pitcher on the team.

    Way to go Johnny.

  95. shiprdr19 says:

    test

  96. The Glider says:

It appears to me that John Maine is pitching much better since Jerry Manuel became manager two days ago.

    • The Glider says:

      . . . and hitting better too!

      • khmustache says:

        dude…they’re winning

      • the Straw says:

so what happens if the mets get like 5-7games above .500 and are right in it against the phillies?

will you still be saying manuel has no effect?

how bout if they make the playoffs? win the world series?

        still nothing???

        • The Glider says:

The Mets were playing better baseball BEFORE Manuel became manager.

        • khmustache says:

          so? manuel is here

        • metsgirl31 says:

Are you Willie’s brother?? Who cares why they are winning or who the manager is?? As long as they WIN!!! I could care less if Lucifer himself is the manager as long as they WIN!!

But I do not think it is a coincidence they are playing a crisper brand of baseball the last 2 games.

        • The Glider says:

Sweetheart, you shouldn’t stick your nose in the middle of a tet-a-tet of which you know nothing about.

There are certain gentlemen on this site that are attributing certain unforeseen events to the managerial skill of a certain Jerald Manuel. Like his genius of playing Endy Chavez in right field. Wow. Or the deft timing of his confronting Jose the other night. (Of course, when Willie bench Reyes for not hustling – a move all baseball people applauded at the time – and Reyes then sulked and tanked the rest of the season; well, then Willie is a bad manager.

Of course, none of this had anything to do with Bernazard’s backstabbing maneuvers behind Willie’s back.

I’m all for the Mets kicking arss the rest of the year and winning the World Series. Trust me. Just don’t tell me how much better a manager Jerry Manuel (Willie’s right hand man) is.

        • the Straw says:

          Glider,

Not only are you a complete idiot, but you are also a sexist a$$hole.

        • metsgirl31 says:

          thank you

        • gipper82475 says:

Glider: it is “tete-a-tete.” Not tet a tet. Tete-a-tete is defined as as “a private conversation between two people,” (hard to actually have one on a blog commenst section, but that’s neither here nor there).

Tet was a Vietcong and NVA offensive in the Vietnam War set to coincide with the eponymous holiday in late January, 1968. The offensive was an abysmal military failure for the Communist forces, but a stunning propoganda victory.

I know your love for Willie “Brains” Randolph is all-encompassing, but perhaps dumbing yourself down to Willie’s level is not the optimal way to demonstrate your abiding affection.

Oh, and a blind, three-legged, rabid basset hound would be a better manager than Willie.

So, Jerry, by definition, is better than Willie.

That said, I am yet to be convinced that Jerry is the long term answer.

  97. metsfan119 says:

Looks like the Phillies aren’t so great once they’re expected to win

  98. K em’ up johhny

  99. The Glider says:

    Endy “Manuel” Chavez!

  100. Very impressive start for maine. He’s a fly ball pitcher and is doing well at coors field. Phills lost-we can pull to withing 3 games back in the loss colemn

  101. I got my world series expectations back.
    I’ve rediscovered my swagger

  102. Danny1986 says:

There is a difference between tyring hard and playing hard. It’s the difference between thinking and doing.

These guys TRIED very hard for WIllie. I won’t debate that one.

But they are PLAYING hard for Jerry. Seriously, I think everyone has their uniform dirty tonight.

  103. dominicanboy08 says:

the phiillies are not that great as they seem, their starting pitcher is awful, except hamels of course. and chase ultly is the only hitter I fear, howard can be pitch to

    • khmustache says:

      they’re due for a losing streak…i hope

    • The Glider says:

You don’t fear Rollins? Howard? How about Pat Burrell? Every hear of him? Do you even have the slightest idea of what Burrell’s stats are against the Mets?

      • the Straw says:

are you even a mets fan? or just some a-hole that sits on this blog and whines and makes negative comments all the time.

I live in Philly, F%ck the Phillies.

Every 4 out of 5 games, they have to win with by out-slugging. They dont have a good enough rotation to scare anyone.

  104. the Straw says:

Someone needs to write john maine a personal apology:

were gonna lose this game, i can tell already… maine doesnt look good, and cook will throw another CG or close to it

  105. Beltran is an animal.

  106. TenTonHammer says:

Let’s tack on a run here. Come on.

  107. Shaping up to be a great nite, with both the Spankees and Phillies losing their games, and the Metropolitans creepin’ to get another “W.”

  108. Maine better still be pitching

  109. garykeithron says:

why do they keep showing that nat geographic commercial about the girl with 8 limbs on sny?

  110. the Straw says:

94 pitches for maine. bottom of the order. come on jerry keep him in. dont be like willie.

  111. metsfan119 says:

interesting to see how much slack Manuel will give his starter

  112. MetsFan4Decades says:

These are the kind of games they need to stay in it. Everyone contributes. Hey, even Schneider got a hit and scored a run. Some real nice plays in the field too.
Now, if we can count on the pen when they make their appearance….

  113. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Jeeze, a two base steal….

  114. MetsFan4Decades says:

Almost looked like Maine was pulling a Jose and didn’t want to come out….

  115. Beware Jimmy rollins, chase utley in com. , a power unlike any you have ever seen has been released

    • khmustache says:

      you wouldn’t like them when they’re underdogs…

stupid hacky line, i know, but it seems like the mets are a much better team when they aren’t favored

  116. the Straw says:

Nice game John Maine. Way to bounce back after the rough first.

No can the bullpen please strand his inherited runners for once…ppppllllleeeeaaaassseee.

  117. marvelousmarv says:

Anyone else feel there are too many commenting on the good effect that Manuel is having on the team??

He may or may not be having a good effect. Lets not send accolades his way just yet. The team just came out of a STORMY situation with Randolph and now can just play w/o the managerial situation hovering over the stadium. Also, whatever effect the team is feeling may be felt by any manager and not just Manuel. Maybe its just the fact that its someone new – nothing more. I hope i’m wrong and Manuel has the Phil Garner effect (He took over the Astros mid-season and took them to the playoffs).

Can we just wait and see how things play out. Lets re-asses the situation at the All-Star break. ARen’t we all excited when we start something new etc. Same thing here. For now…Lets Go Mets…

    • garykeithron says:

yes, agreed. team was already showing good signs pre-manuel. can’t really tell with 3 games. one game lost and people will be calling for his head again. thus is the life of a mets fan

    • The Glider says:

Bloggers here arse-kissing Manuel after two games????? Really? I couldn’t tell.

      • NCMetsGuy says:

As a defender of sanity what is your problem? Why can’t you just let it go. There are a lot of Mets fans that just feel better about the team after the cloud of Willie was lifted. What do you have against them? So what if they did not like Willie. Let them be happy.

    • ReyesRocks says:

Can’t we also just be glad to finally see that there actually is a team that’s fun to watch out there too?

Regardless of Manuel being the cause, or the lack of Willie and the “STORMY situation” being the cause, there IS a more exciting and fun team out there.

    • the Straw says:

Willie had over three years to threaten to cut one of his players…but he just didnt get it done. Manuel needed all of one hitter.

The Manuel effect is soo evident.

      • The Glider says:

        (Vomit.)

      • The Glider says:

It’s not “the Manuel effect” you moron. It’s the no more media blitz effect; the no more Willie is a dead man walking every single day effect; etc.

        Are you Manuel’s ho?

        • NCMetsGuy says:

What is your problem? Just let them be happy for once.

        • The Glider says:

          Them? Who’s “them”?

        • khmustache says:

everybody on the site not named glider. how exactly do you want us to root for the team? you seem to get angry whenever anybody says anything good about the mets. what would make you happy?

        • The Glider says:

          Never.

        • marvelousmarv says:

The issue is not people being happy about the team right now. By all means be happy. Cheer and not boo. Do what ever you want. I started this string b/c I was sick of seeing people write about the positive effect that Manuel is having. He may very well be having a positive effect. I’m not saying that he isn’t.

All im saying is that lets watch this team for a little longer. Lets see them hit a skid and rebound before we say its all about Manuel. Manuel’s a fresh face; A new voice. It all seems positive right now.

You couldve put Bud Harrelson, Jeff Torborg & Art Howe here and people would be saying they’re having a nice effect on the team. Thats just silly.

But again, by all means, cheer. BE HAPPY. dont let me or anyone else take away your joy. Lets just wait and see what happens before giving too much credit to Manuel. Thats all.

        • NCMetsGuy says:

I think the major effect that Manuel will have on the team will be the same he has on the fans. He’s not Willie. It’s not even that Willie was a bad manager, it’s that the team could not move past the collapse with him as the manager and neither could the fans. Now we don’t seem to have that oh no here we go again feeling. It’s like we are starting over again. I understand Manuel is just an average manager just like Willie and just like Bobby Valentine but still it’s nice to move on.

        • gipper82475 says:

NCMetsGuy hit the nail on the head.

I’m certainly not sold on Manuel yet…but my God, anybody would be better than Willie!

Call it the no more moronic, baseball strategy-challenged, thin-skinned, paranoid manager effect!

And, what in the name of all that is holy (i.e. Mookie, Seaver, Gil, Koosman, Agee, Mex, Bob Murphy, Mr. Met) is wrong with being happy about that?

      • marvelousmarv says:

        Who did he cut??

  118. backinbusiness says:

Just got back from B-Mets/Trenton Thunder (Yankees). Anyone else there? Parnell and especially Kunz looked real sharp, the first thing I saw out of Carp was a miserable error, ball right under his glove at 1B. Wonderful. Gotta say he looked fine the rest of the way, certainly no worse than Delgado. But… 0-4 Carp; 0-3 Evans; Murphy on the DL. Ah well, $5 and some nice pitching.

    • the Straw says:

Who cares about Carp…Delgado found the fountain of youth tonight!!!

    • garykeithron says:

saw it on tv – fun to watch them play. pitching was great and carp’s error was horrible on a routine play

  119. dr jones says:

those aren’t Lennon glasses,,, those are Tom Kite glasses..

    You guys know Kite?

  120. AzMetsFan says:

How perfect would a G.S be here in this new era. Come on Reyes!!!!

  121. MetsFan4Decades says:

So what’s the record on how many ML managers got fired within one week? What is it up to now – 3?

  122. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Jeeze, Schneider…..

  123. WrightsRight says:

is there a slower athlete in the history of professional sports than Schneider. He makes Tony Siragusa look like Jesse Owens.

  124. I think snieder is slower then castro

  125. stickguy says:

Man, Schneider is slow. COst Jose a base hit there.

good thing the run still scores!

    • AzMetsFan says:

He’s slow but that was mainly some stupid baserunning. Crappy how Jose doesn’t get a hit there

    • NCMetsGuy says:

He was running his big butt off but that’s a tough play because of having to hold up. He must have hesitated too long.

  126. garykeithron says:

can there be an error on a runner?

  127. NCMetsGuy says:

Feliciano gets on my nerves this season. Something is just not quite right with him since the middle of last season.

  128. Cmon, is it really too much to ask for them to play like this EVERY game??!!!

  129. stickguy says:

Does Feliciano ever NOT walk the first guy he faces?

Actually, does he ever get an out anymore? Seems like he comes in, puts a couple of guys on base, and gets pulled.

Might be time to put him on the endanered species BP list too!

I type this as he gets a SP, but it was a tough play by DW!

  130. metsfanatic says:

I am not impressed with Schneider. He makes too many mental errors. Doesn’t really call that great a game. Also a lot of wild pitches/passed balls this year.

  131. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice, Pedro.
You know, it was only two weeks ago where I didn’t think any lead was safe, not even a 5 run lead going into the 9th. Now, with a lead like this, no way I expect them to blow it.

  132. bvaz says:

    nice rebound by Maine.
here’s my view. we have a clear cut ace. we have a 2b pitcher in maine. we have 2 #3 starters in pedro (if he stays healthy) and perez and a legit #4 in pelfrey.
I think that could win the division.

    • the Straw says:

i agree. although im not comfortable enough with perez to call him a #3. Hes a #4 that will pitch like a #2 20% of the time.

But it looks a hell of a lot better than the Sillies rotation.

  133. dr jones says:

Would you look at that,, They like each other again… Wooohoooo

  134. scottmetsfan says:

what was that chicken headed dance david wright was just doing? and isn’t it great to see them goofing in the dugout?

  135. khmustache says:

the defense has been outstanding tonight

  136. adam11216 says:

everything that was going wrong a month ago is going right now. at least for the last couple games…

  137. The Glider says:

We’re becomming like the Yankees. We’re now the New York Metkees.

  138. Backman_Backer says:

Beautiful game by the boys tonight
Lets make it a special saturday night

  139. khmustache says:

done and done…back to .500…i hope this isn’t the fake mets again

  140. dr jones says:

I can see clearly now the rain is gone..

  141. AzMetsFan says:

Welcome back to .500 and hopefully on our way to .600!

  142. scottmetsfan says:

showcasing heilman? what’s the story with heilman for fuentes?

    • NCMetsGuy says:

Rumored over the offseason with the Show but I have not heard much since.

    • The Glider says:

We don’t have enough left-handed relievers?

      • NCMetsGuy says:

The way Feliciano has been pitching and Heilman why not? Fuentes is a closer and has setup in the past would not be a bad 8th inning guy at all.

  143. oleosmirf says:

nice to Beltran and Delgado showing some emotion. Hopefully it lasts more than a few days…

  144. bvaz says:

3 losses back of 1st with over 3 months to go.
time to go on those 7-3 runs like they are supposed to go on.

  145. teufelshuffle86 says:

There’s something I really like about the way this team plays under Jerry Manuel. I can’t quite put my finger on it but I like it. I wasn’t a huge proponent of this move but I am willing to give it a chance. I sort of like what I see so far.

  146. TenTonHammer says:

Trot Nixon sounds EXACTLY like Stone Cold Steve Austin.

  147. rusty shackleford says:

Good pitching, timely hitting, solid defense.
    I liiiike!
    Go gangsta!

  148. rusty shackleford says:

Good pitching, timely hitting, solid defense.
    I liiiiike.
    Go Gansta Manuel!

  149. adam900 says:

Nice win tonight, they actually have been playing quite well this past week. I don’t know if the players didn’t want to listen to Willie or whatever it was. We got an easy schedule coming up, besides the Yankees and after that. Time to climb over .500.

    • fivepointspro says:

You guys reading way too much into it.

LETS RELAX & support our team weather or not they WIN. thats what a true fan is.

BTW its only been 2 GAMES, what if they go back on a loosing streak wich they will, what then? are u guys gona blame OMAR again or the “OVERRATED chemistry.”

LETS TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME>>>>>>

      LETS GO METS

  150. mavicario says:

    Great win!

It feels like the beginning of the season all over again.

    Easley should always play 2B

    • TenTonHammer says:

Castillo really wasn’t missed at all, was he? The drop off in defensive ability is not as much as we should’ve expected.

      • Koko says:

Easley did fumble a tailored made double play, that basically got Maine mad and out of the game. My guess Castillo would have had it.

  151. cropseymonster says:

    Gangsta up . . . fo’ shizzle

  152. playmaker3128 says:

Castillo can play, however i’d love to see him out of the 2 hole. I just don’t like the flow of this offense when he’s hitting left handed. He prevents us from having alot of big innings.

Now granted he has a good OBP, and leads the team in average with RISP. However i just don’t like him in the spot. I got the feeling the manuel might not have either, his comments at the press conference and bringing up the 2 hole in the lineup and all.

One thing i also like about manuel, he stuck to his word so far. Gave easily an extra day (regardless whether castillo was injured or not) because he was performing. If castillo does go back to hitting in the 2 hole and doesn’t perform, i have a feeling manuel is gonna take him out, shake things up a bit. Something we never saw from willie.

  153. mr.gee21 says:

Feels good to be a Mets fan again. For the moment.

I don’t care who is to thank for it, it’s good and we should all just be happy.

  154. kbh218 says:

It’s 2:30AM East Coast time…no post game recap post yet? Cerrone, I’m worried sick. Are you OK?
