off topic, you guys have got to see this if you’re a baseball fan.

Go to YouTube and on the search field type in “Ballgirl Catch”.

You have to find the video that’s still available. It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. If the Mets would give just HALF the effort this BallGirl gave we’d be in first place. Unbelievable.

Well, problem #1 is you can’t just send down Perez. He’d have to clear wavers – which he won’t…
Alou is on the DL – why the heck would you DFA him?
Anderson is a guy who can play any position and is a good pinch hitter. i don’t think you’ll find anyone on waivers anywhere close.
Heilman – you lose a great reliever. He’s been groomed as a reliever for a while, it doesn’t look (by all media sources) like the Mets will ever consider converting him back to a starting role.
Castillo – I’ve heard plenty that his contract was a predecessor to Santana agreeing to come to NY. Omar did what he had to do. And who the hell do you think would want this washed up guy anyway?
Hojo -should have been fired along with Willie and Peterson, but wasn’t. You think there’s something more to this? I think you can replace him with pretty much anyone who can toss batting practice – wouldn’t be much worse…

In all fairness, Guillen has been well behaved the past couple of years, so I don’t think that it’s a problem. And it won’t take “one prospect, who in all likelihood will never see the grass on the field” – that’s just nonsense. I don’t care what the guy’s rep is – if he’s having a great offensive year, there will be plenty of contenders who will want him on the team. He won’t be got for a throw-in. And who knows what impact he can have on the team once you plug him into the batting order – look at Alou, he makes the Mets play like a 1st place team…

Again. This team doesnt need Jose Guillen. It needs a positive addition both in the clubhouse and on the field. He fails miserably in one aspect and has a great chance of failing in the other. Just another “bring this AL player to the NL and he’ll light it up” mistake……Like I said, enough of this mentality.

i say we just dump this guy and get a few draft picks or a minor leaguer or two to bolster up our system before his contract runs out at the end of the season. this guy is a lost cause who will never fulfill his “potential.” not that he ever had any in my book. adios oliver!

Perez, IMHO, will get another start or two. If he pitches decently in them, Manuel will keep him in the rotation. If he implodes again, then we need to think about a change. If a change in the rotation is made, I think Vargas deserves a shot since he’s shown that he can pitch effectively for us, or I think Heilman should get his shot at the rotation.

Say what you want about Heilman, and I know there are those of you out there who still have not forgiven him for the Molina HR in ’06 (just like you never forgave Willie for the collapse). But Heilman does have nasty stuff – a 93-95 mph fast ball with sharp movement; a great change-up, and a decent slider.

What you’re saying here is totally irrelevant. No, of course Jose Guillen would not have gone 145-for-148 last night with 72 home runs and 418 RBI. That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t make a positive impact on the lineup. Comparing him to Bobby Bonilla is just stupid and shortsighted.

You obviously have no clue. Bobby Jones (Fresno version) was an effective pitcher for 5+ years and actually had very good control. However, once he lost speed on his fastball he was doomed. His breaking stuff also tailed off a lot once he had shoulder problems.
