The thing is, they haven't been using him that way...or, at least, Willie didn't. Several times he sent Casanova or Cancel up as a pinch hitter and held Castro as his back-up catcher. That never made sense. If you want a third catcher to free up your #2 catcher to pinch hit, fine, but if the #3 catcher is just another bat off the bench, there are better bats to be had, even in the Met's system. Vargas gave up 4 runs the other day, but had been fairly effective otherwise. Armas has a 2.5 ERA - in the minors. His career ERA in the bigs is over 4.5. That said, I don't mind giving Armas a shot. We signed him for a reason. Just keep things in perspective and stop calling people dumb. And i hope none are as shortsighted as you.
